Accidentally took my iphone for a swim in the sea. Seems completely dead even after attempting to dry it out. Given that it was sea water it was submerged in is it worth trying to get it repaired from a cost point of view?

Take it to Apple and ask for an out of warranty replacement, which should get you a new phone at a fraction of retail. For instance, in the US it would be $199. Apple don't do repairs.
