Wifi problems iPhone 4

There is something wrong with the wifi on the iphone 4. I was at a restaurant where they offer free wifi. I had been there before and connected to their wifi before with my old iphone. I noticed that I could not connect after getting my iphone 4 and it would not connect even though I see it on the list and selected it. The menu bar still say 3g. I took out my old iphone that I gave to my son to use essentially as a ipod touch, it connected without hesitation. The iphone 4 also had issue at a McDonald's trying to connect to their attwifi setup. This problem is not uniform. For example, I can connect at home and at work without issues. I don't know what the problems is, but I hope Apple can fix it on a software update.

There is something wrong with the wi-fi on your iPhone 4.I've had no problem connecting to the free wi-fi network available at a restaurant I frequent often with my iPhone 4.Did you transfer the backup for your old iPhone to your iPhone 4, or did you set up your iPhone 4 as a new iPhone the first time you connected the iPhone 4 to iTunes on your computer after being activated?

I have had this only a couple of times and turning WiFi off and on and reselecting worked. I have noticed if the public WiFi has a login page sometimes it won't pop up immediately and then you can't seem to get the coign page back.

I'm also have a wifi problem. My wifi has worked at home for the two days I've had it at home. I left yesterday evening for the first time with the phone (into 3G land

). Ever since I've been back home, my phone has said 3G. I went into my settings to try to see if my home network will even come up. It won't. I tried to enter it manually and it won't even recognize it now even when I'm sitting right next to the router. My laptops are working just fine so I KNOW it's just a phone problem. This is very frustrating. I don't even know where to begin to address this as it WAS working and now is not??

If no change after turning wi-fi access off and on and after powering your iPhone off and on and/or an iPhone reset, on your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Reset and select Reset Network Settings. This will erase all wi-fi network settings from your iPhone.If your wi-fi network still doesn't appear to select, try restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup.If no change after this, your iPhone has a hardware failure with the wireless card or with something else.

Thank you Allan. I finally found the time to restore my phone and setup as new. I just came back from the restaurant I had trouble connecting to and I was able to connect. When I originally set up my phone, I transferred the backup from my old phone. Did not know it made such a difference.
