Have you added your cellphone number in General>Phone>My Number?

You'll have to bear with me I'm very new at this but I dot even see that option under the general settings

Look under Settings > Message > iMessage > On.

 

Then scroll down to Receive At.  Assuming you have an iPhone (not an iPad or Touch), your phone number should be listed.
