Why it both my iPhone 4 and 3Gs suddenly have their batteries die in matter of 2 hours only started this week and now today both phones not just 3Gs It seems Apple has big problem and from what I can see no one knows how to fix it

Til this week both phones worked great. Made no changes to either of my phones but suddenly first the 3Gs now my Iphone 4 batteries die within 2 hours, just the other day I was getting 2 days on a charge, now 2 hours.  What the heck is going on, and what can I do to fix them.  One phone is used by a terminal cancer patient who NEEDS the phone (3Gs), this is no good for doctors and nurses if it is dead.  Lost important text messages from nurses yesterday involving a doctor appoinment that he missed today....HELP!!!!!
