You'll notice that for any action in the App Store, Apple wants your Credit Card Information. Even for free Apps.

You asked why? It's to encourage impulsive buying. Seriously.

If you have a Credit Card on file and you only buy free Apps, Apple doesn't gain. If you only buy free Apps and one day you want $9.99 App because its super cool, Apple gets $3 BUT ONLY if they've got your credit card on file.

If your card ISN't on file and you want to make a purchase, you'll have to enter your CC information, you'll have to think, there will be more friction.

Since Apple is all about user experience, they want your credit card on file.
