I have an iPhone 4 on an AT&T contract that is going to end this summer. I would like to think that they would unlock it after I have paid more than the full price for the phone, and even more for unlocked models. But when I checked their policy, they allow unlocks to every other phone out of contract but the iPhone. I know it's their policy, but will at&t ever start unlocking old iPhones out of contract? Pretty much when my contract expires, It will be reduced to an iPod. I don't want to sell it, I just want to keep it as an unlocked phone, but it looks like that is not possible according to AT&T
You can continue to use it on AT&T's network after your 2 year contract expires, you can even change it to another phone number on AT&T's network, you just can't use it on another network.

It seems the only way to get AT+T to unlock an iPhone is to get Apple's CEO involved:

At least now we know they're lying when they say they CAN'T unlock iPhone's.
