Visual voicemail not working but it used to iPhone

For the past week, my visual voicemail has not been working. I can certainly go into my VM manually and retrieve messages, but VVM doesnt work. There is no VM indicator that I have any messages when in fact I do. Nothing shows up in the Visual voicemail list. Also if I go to change from the Default greeting to a Personal greeting and then save, it just sits there and spins the little spinning thing forever. Likewise, if I select one of them, it spins for ever trying to retrieve the greeting. It seems there is no connection to the VM system through the iPhone interface.
I spent an hour on the phone with AT&T tech support yesterday and he told me it might possibly be the AT&T voicemail server my account connects to. I know its not my signal because its full EDGE and 3G and my huzbinds iPhone (same model and all) works fine and his VVM works flawlessly.
Today I rebooted the iPhone a couple of times, waiting 10 minutes before turning it back on. I Reset All settings also and of course had to redo all of them after. I thought for a moment it was working because my VM indicator showed 8 messages but then the number 8 disappeared. However when I touch the VM button, it just sent me right to audio VM. It did not give me Visual voicemail.
Im at my wits end here. I have iPhone 3G, 2.1 software.

Just so you know, turning off the phone really isnt a reboot. When you hold button do the slide to turn off, it really only goes to hibernation (like a laptop option) and thus when you turn it back on, all things that were in memory before are still there...thus if there is a bug or leak/issue, it will remain. Below is the reboot instructions to do a real reboot. If a reboot doesnt work, then I do believe it points to AT&Ts servers as there is unique setup stuff they have to do for an iPhone account and could just be like they said, the server you are on with them.
Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
A reset/reboot is:
Go to Home Screen
Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Dont let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.

Just thought I would update because my VVM is now working. Btw, when I said I rebooted, I did do an actual reboot, not just a hibernate.
So like I had mentioned, I tried restoring my iPhone back to Factory Default two times on my home iMac. Everything is up to date software-wise. But that still didnt fix the no VVM. So when I got to work on Monday, I tried to do a Factory Default restore on my work iMac, again everything is up to date.
When I booted up the iPhone for the first time it seemed that VVM wanted to work for a moment but then it seemed to not. I rebooted the iPhone once again and boom, VVM now works.
To be honest I really dont think it was my iPhones software. I believe it was something on AT&Ts end with their VVM server. I was told by an AT&T tech that not everyone connects to the same VM server.

This same exact thing happened to me yesterday. It started as my wi-fi not working, so I restored the phone to factory settings (from my home computer) and it fixed the wi-fi. However my visual voicemail stopped working. I spent over an hour on the phone with AT&T support to no avail. I had support delete my data plan and re-add it... we tried all kinds of things. Including another restore. So this morning I thought I would try another restore once I arrived at work. Let me add... my phone was previously synced to my work computer before the restore that I did from home. So I restored it here at the office this morning...... and what do you know...... visual voicemail started working again. And I was able to restore from a backup that I did yesterday afternoon so I have all texts, notes, etc.
Anyway, I just wanted to add to this discussion in case anyone else has the same problem. Maybe the phone did not like being restored on a computer that was different from the one it is synced to... Im not sure. But I dont think it is a coincidence that both myself and you were able to fix this by restoring from work. The only difference in our situations is that I use a PC at home and work.
