I've tried about all I can think of. I have songs that I've cut into 30 seconds or less, and converted them into an .m4r file. I placed them on my desktop and tried dragging and dropping them into itunes, but nothing happened. They won't even show up in my music, let alone under 'tones'. I also tried double clicking the files on my desktop to open them, but they won't even open. It says it's a ringtone file as well. Am I doing something wrong? Any help would be much appreciated! (I have the latest version on iTunes as well)
Did you start with an AAC file? Did you delete the original 30 second .m4a file in iTunes before dragging the renamed .mr4 file back to your library? If you don't, iTunes won't accept the .m4r version. You might want to compare what you did to this: Create free ringtones with iTunes 10 just to double-check your process.
How did you cut the songs into 30 seconds or less clips and are these songs in your iTunes library?
There is an app via Apple's App Store for your Mac called Ringer. It can be used to create a ringtone for songs in your iTunes library that does not include DRM protection. The ringtone is placed in the appropriate location in your iTunes library without having to do anything special but use the app.
I did not start with an AAC file, but I've tried doing that before, and I get the same results. The files I am using are songs given to me from a friend that she got off the interent. They were already cut into 30 seconds or less, but they were in .mp3 format. I just changed the file type into .m4r.
I was not aware of this app. Thanks for letting me know! i'll go check it out.
