Thinking about getting an Iphone 3g

Hey guys, just have a couple questions concerning the iphone 3g
Thinking about getting, two questions?
Ive heard some negative press about the actual phone feature ironically. Has the call drop issue been resolved, or is that issue mainly due to your service area now?
Also, does the phone have a tendency to slow down massively if it gets close to capacity?
My old ipods have never really worked correctly in that regard.
Little skeptical b/c of these issues, any advice is appreciated.

actually it was announced today that there will be an official app in the app store for MMS...
