texting problems iPhone 4S

Since updating to iOS 5.1, I have had problems with texting as well as cellular connectivity. Signal is weak in places it used to be strong. When sending regular texts (not iMessages) text messages are received by me as well as other people i send to with delays sometimes upwards of 12 hours, messages are sent once but received in duplicate and triplicate, and text messages sent less than 160 characters ALWAYS have the entire last word cut off and sent as a separate message which again is received sometimes hours later. I have gone to an Apple store, phone was swapped out but same problem exists. Help?

The 5.1.1 update has not fixed this problem either.

Why would any iOS update fix that issue? It has nothing to do with the iPhone or iOS, it is a carrier issue.

Contact the carrier to troubleshoot the issue.

I didn't have this problem when I had iOS 5.0.1. Only when I updated to 5.1 and now 5.1.1. Carrier was the first place I went. Network settings was reset a few times with no change. Ultimately they suggested I contact apple. So I don't know what to do now.
