Maybe it takes awhile, but when I tap voice mail, the phone dials my voice mail and logs in. It doesnt seem to do the visual voice mail part. I just got it today. Is there a lag time? I did get an activated message, however, so I know it is activated.I did try to reset network settings. I have not yet syncd with computer.Message was edited by: macbook1702Message was edited by: macbook1702 MacBook Pro 15" 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Early 2008) Mac OS X (10.6.4) AEBS DB II (Late 2009)/ iPod Nano 16GB (5th Gen)/iphone 3GS (8GB), ClamXav
I just wanted to post this topic as Im curious if the Apple monster will even read this or address them. I hope I get surprised. Apple makes, hands down, the most high quality of devices, but they tend to have it there way more than ours. I guess thats what makes them Apple. Without further ado, here is my list of bugs Ive noticed and I hope youll add to it. I would just love to see Apple address these:1. Performance issues with Podcasts and multiple-tasking. Youll hear stuttering on occasion, sometimes often while playing a podcast or even music. Ive noticed this at random and also at times when the phone locks or when switching out of the iPod.2. I just noticed this one: if you take the time to write on this exact site, you will find yourself getting lost, as sometimes the text goes on, and the screen doesnt follow it. Suprising that even on the iPhones home site, it cant perform the way it ought to. Youll also notice that below here, its asking me what hardware Im using and what OS. It should be clear what hardware Im on and even what OS Im running. Brilliant, considering this is Apple.com, I selected the iphone 4 section, and the browser can report the os version. Oh wow, I just lost my text again and had to press the expanding icon on the bottom right of this pane. Also, sometimes i lose my text permanently where I should be able to scroll down to find it but there arent scroll bars... The attention to detail of the aesthetics of the phone cant be matched on the outside, but again, leave a lot to be desired on the inside.3. Echo for the remote callers own voice when my phone is plugged into a stereo through the headphone jack. Even when my volume is so low, I cant hear it.4. While heavily texting, if I exit out to the home screen after/during the send of the text, my phone will freeze for a good 60-120 seconds. If I press too many buttons, trying to get it to respond, it will reboot itself instead of coming back to life. Again this only happens (very seldom) when Im sending texts to multiple random people and I abruptly go home while a message is being sent (or maybe received?).5. While playing music, the quality will often drop drastically when entering a game or application that has sounds. This has only happened in two places so far. While talking on the phone, if I go to play music on the iPod to hear in my headphones, and when entering Bejeweled 2 Blitz with the in-game music off and the sounds on, while iPod music is being played. I do not believe this is Bejeweled at fault. Try it, make a call and try and play some background music in your headphones. The quality drops to a very unacceptable level.Thats actually all I can think of for now! Please fix these issues Apple and I will gain a good bit of respect, knowing you heard and acknowledged this. Also, please, everyone post your findings as well, in addition to the Bluetooth, and proximity bugs that have seemingly been addressed but not resolved. iphone 4 iOS 4 4.0.2, thanks for the option above, and for not already knowing that.
This may sound like a stupid question at first -- but how doI exit a FaceTime connection and revert back to the voice call…?!I mean, if I can go from voice to video I should be able to go back to voice again, right…?!So far I have tried all buttons and options, but I cant find anything that works…! I can mute the FT call and I can of course hang up and call again, but thats not really a solution…Closest thing I found is pressing the home button, but -- just as in a voice call -- that only takes you to the home screen and you are still on speaker, so thats not it either…Am I missing something here…?! Because if thats all there is, this is definitely a major flaw…! MBP 2.4 GHz 4 Mac mini 2.0 GHz 2 GB iphone 3GS 32 GB iPad 3G 32GB iOS4 Mac OS X (10.6.4)
It seems like the microphone input level on my wifes iphone 4 is too low. People have trouble hearing her during her calls. Using the headset, speakerphone, or Bluetooth doesnt increase the volume, nor does covering up the noise-cancelling input on the top. Using the voice recorder app, I used the same headset the same distance from my mouth to compare the meter volume against my 1st gen iphone, and the input comes in at least 6dB lower. Is this a defective model that needs to be returned? Or is this expected as part of the new design? My wife says she cant use it as a phone, it may have to go back. It would be great if a future iOS update allowed us to adjust the input level. iphone 4 iOS 4
This has been happening for the last 3 days. I make or receive a call on my iphone 4 and within seconds the party on the other line cannot hear me at all. I hear them perfectly but they cannot hear me. Sometimes it happens right away sometimes it takes several seconds but my voice completely drops out. This happens 50 to 80% of the time.Went to the apple store and they checked it by using the recorder app which worked fine and then by making a call which also worked fine. They did not perform any diagnostics. Im on the road all day and my business depends on my phone. I am now afraid to make calls for fear of the person on the other side losing me mid sentence or not hearing me at all. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. This happens whether Im on speaker, mic or bluetooth.I upgraded to the latest software on Sunday and to no avail. Am I alone? 32gb iphone 4 4.0.2 software. All entries in the address book have phones with the area code prepended. Just the area code, not including the 0 before the area code to identify it.When the iphone dials a number this way, ZXNXXXXXXX (asterisk format), the carrier replies an error message informing the number is wrong. Both TIM and Claro do that. If an 0 is dialed before the Z, then the call goes through. Adding the 0 to the number is not an option, for it will mess when roaming abroad. The Motorola, K1, V3 and DEXT (Android - Cliq in the USA), knows how to dial calls without the preceding 0.Is there a fix to this problem? Thanks iphone 3Gs iOS 4 IOS 4.0.1 MacBook Pro OS 10.5.8
Ive noticed that I can create a contact with a dial string that includes non numerics, and can successfully place a call from that contact entry. For example, the following dial string, 1115551212,,123456# will dial (111)555-1212, pause for a few seconds, and then enter 123456#. This could be useful for dialing into a corporate voicemail system and then having the phone automatically transmit your password digits so you dont have to fumble with manual password entry. However, Ive discovered that if the exact same string is included in the subject of an email, when you click on the number youre asked if you want to dial the number (same as clicking on any number in an email subject line or text body), but when you click on Dial, nothing happens. It appears that the mail application is unable to pass a dial string with non-numerics to the phone application, even though you can dial the exact same string from a contacts entry successfully.Anyone know if theres a fix in the works for this issue, or possibly a workaround? iphone 3GS iOS 4
Greetings! Im very new to iphone and this discussion site, and looking for some answers. Im in Toronto, Canada and I ordered my iphone 4 from the Apple online store with no voice/data/text plan - I think this would make it an unlocked version. I will get my iphone 4 delivered tomorrow (at least thats what Fedex tracking site says) and Im planning to use it with my existing Rogers no-term contract for the time being. I hope I would be able to use it also with other carriers, if needed, or other pre-paid (micro)SIM cards. I do have a SIM card on my Rogers no-term contract (obviously) - does anybody know if Rogers will make me buy a new micro SIM card (as this is the only format iphone 4 accepts)? What if I use a micro SIM cutter and adjust my current SIM - would my iphone 4 work without having to involve Rogers? I guess I would still have to activate it - is this done using iTunes only, or do I have to involve a Rogers rep?Your help is truly appreciated!

I have called AT&T twice on this issue and still the problem exists and described to them what I am writing below. However I do think this problem is a carrier issue and not a hardware issue but I do think other users and apple should be made aware of this problem I am having beginning at 19:31 hrs C.S.T. I initiated 1hr and 31 minute phone call. My setting was set to have 3G enabled and 3G data enabled. At the beginning of the call I looked I had 4 out of 5 bars and 3G was indicated on the top left corner of the screen to the right of the AT&T logo somewhere mid stream during the call I noticed the 3G logo was gone the E for EDGE logo was gone , I had 5 bars full strength but no 3G nor E , tried to send a MMS message to the person I was talking too since 3G allows both voice and text or MMS capability. While Edge does not. Of curse the Multi Media message failed indicated on the screen message fail and a red icon next to the picture. So I hung up the phone and closely watched the screen a small circle quickly appeared next to the AT&T logo then it turned to an E then back to a small circle then back to an E this process went on for about 40 seconds then the icon changed to 3G. I made the phone call from my home in central Texas about 20 miles east of Fort Hood in Belton Texas along the I-35 corridor according to at&t map we are in a 3g coverage area. My uncle I was talking to was on I-20 west bound rolling in a semi truck between Fort Worth TX and Abilene TX on his way to Lubbock Texas. This time he was rolling or moving in a vehicle last week when the same problem occurred he was sitting stationary on the east side of Dallas Texas near Mesquite TX. If anyone has had a similar problem I would like to here about it. Thanks iphone iphone OS 3.0.1 Dell Inspirion 1000

I have a Nuvelli bluetooth stereo headset with microphone. The headset works great for listening to music on my iphone. However, I noticed that the microphone part of it doesnt work when paired the iphone: a caller cant hear me, and I cant record a voice memo. So, the stereo audio receiving works, but the iphone wont recognize that the device has a microphone as well. I live in Sydney, Australia.Just received an iphone 4 16GB on Friday by courier from Optus (Australia).Set it up earlier this evening, and started testing it. Have had some immediate problems, whether making or receiving a call, I am not able to hear the person at the other end. They can hear my voice clearly, but I can’t hear theirs. As if the ear piece is completely dead. This happened on about 5 test calls from my iphone 4 to another iphone 3G with Optus, and to a landline number.Suddenly, however the ear piece started working on the 6th test call, and I could hear the person on the other end - TOTALLY RANDOM!Can anyone please comment if they have had a similar experience.I will definitely return the phone if this problem continues and take up the 10 day cooling off period that Optus offers. So far I rate the iphone 4 a ZERO… worst product Apple have ever released. Fingers crossed if this is a bug, and can be easily fixed with a software update.Message was edited by: outsideworld MBP 13" Mac OS X (10.6.2)
Yesterday I had a problem dialing. My calls appeared to dial correctly, but NO connection resulted after trying 3 or 4 different numbers. No ringing tone was heard even though the phone said it was dialing. I was starting to think there was a network problem. Finally in desperation, I did a reboot (not the reset with the home button AND the top button.) Just the top button to shut the phone down completely and then an immediate restart. After that the phone dialed correctly. Im going to stick with present phone unless this becomes a frequent deal, but this new IP4 is starting to torque me off a bit. I would think this problem is strictly Apple and has NOTHING to do with ATT. MB Pro 15-21.5 iMac Mac OS X (10.6) IT 8GB--IP 4 32GB--Nano 16GB
Good morning fellow Apple Discussion Users,I would like to know if anyone else has had the same problem with getting help from Apple on the iphone 4 antenna issue, and if so what was it that you were able to do to get the problem fixed. Please read my situation below and let me know if there is anything you think that might help.Thank you.On Friday the 13th of August 2010 I drove an hour to the nearest Apple retail store that had the iphone 4 32 GB in stock and purchased my first iphone. Although it isnt too significant to my experience please keep in mind that in the past four to five years I have been a loyal customer to Apple by purchasing three MacBook Pros, two iPod Touches, one iPod Video, and subscribing to MobileMe.When I arrived at the Apple retail store I spoke with an Apple iphone specialist and asked him if the iphone 4 antenna problem been resolved yet. He replied that it has and that Apple has started a free iphone 4 case program as the solution. I asked him to show me what cases I would have to choose from and he replied saying that they do not carry any cases at all in the store because corporate needed all the case inventory to distribute to those that need it. The iphone specialist then explained to me that I would need to download the free case App. from the App. store and follow the directions. So, after spending thirty dollars more than what I had already projected to purchase the iphone for, I went home and synced my new iphone with my iTunes account and updated my iphone to ISO 4.0.2. I then proceeded to load the free iphone case program. I then chose the case I wanted and completed my order. I then received my order confirmation by email, which said that the case wouldnt be shipped until September 14, 2010. This didnt bother me because the case was free and I had already put screen protectors on my iphone and didnt really see the need for a case right now anyways. However, after using the iphone Saturday and today and experiencing bad reception and dropped calls I became quite irritated, as I never experienced this with my previous wireless carriers that I have used in my same current coverage area. I even checked AT&Ts coverage map and it listed my area of having full support and coverage of both data and voice. It was then made clear to me that the issues I was having was related to Apples iphone 4 antenna problem, so I decided to call them about this and to see what they can do about getting this resolved because there is no way that I should have to wait close to a month for a case to resolve the issue while spending money on my service plan for crappy service due to an Apple defect.I spent over an hour speaking with two different Apple customer service agents and I had three dropped calls during this period. I asked them if there was anyway to just give me a credit of the retail value for the case I picked and then cancel my free case order, so that I may go purchase a case at AT&T now and fix the problem I am having with my iphone. After the second time of having my phone call dropped I had to call them back myself and ended up talking to someone different than before. This gentleman had informed me that they had cancelled my free case order, but can not give me any type of credit or rebate for a case, so that I can go purchase one. He then had his supervisor get on the line with us.As you can imagine, this really ticked me off! So, not only did they cancel my order for the free case without my consent, but now they are telling me that there is nothing they can do to help me except to restart my original order and to wait until it is delivered to me to fix the iphone antenna problem. I explained to them how unprofessional and inappropriate it is to have to make a customer of theirs let a lone a very loyal one have to wait for almost a month for a case in order to fix a defect that is their fault, but yet there are stores that have iphone 4 cases in stock that could fix the problem right away. They of course didnt care and continued to tell me that there isnt anything they can do to help. I then proceeded to ask them if a $25.00 case/credit/rebate is worth losing a loyal customer and $360.00, as I will be returning the iphone 4 if they are unwilling to fix the problem thus making me have to go out and spend my own money to fix the issue myself in order to have a functioning iphone. Their response was more of the same that they offer a free case and that I would just have to wait and what I decide to do is my decision to make. So, it seems to me that Apple really doesnt care if they lose a customer or a loyal one for that matter. I then proceeded to call and speak with an Apple Care agent and of course there wasnt anything that the gentleman I talked to could do, but at least he was understanding of reason and also agreed that the whole iphone case program is flawed and adds to the problem more so than it does to fix it. After speaking with the Apple Care agent we agreed that once Apple realized the solution to the antenna defect that anyone who was to buy an iphone 4 should have been given a bumper or case at the same time as they purchased their iphone. Ok, so you may not have a choice in what model you get or color, but if its free and it fixes the defect immediately then who cares, I know I dont.I would much rather sport a hot pink band of rubber around my iphone if that meant I would not have dropped calls or bad call reception when I am in a fully covered area. Then when I had the ability to do so I would buy a replacement of my choice. Its not like Apple is offering any free cases that I would personally buy for my iphone if I had the choice to do so anyways. Well, I decided it would be in my best interest to first go out and spend my own money for a case to see if that in fact solves the problem before spending the gas and time to drive back to the Apple store to return the iphone, which I would then have to wait for the credit to post on my credit card account. Not to mention cancel my new account with AT&T and be without both a phone and service until I received my credit to buy a new phone.I would like to know what everyone else feels about what I had to say about my experience with Apple today. I personally think Apple needs to get their act together and priorities straight.Thanx,AMMOCAN MacBook Pro 5,3-2.8, 4 GB RAM MacBook Pro 4,1-2.5, 4 GB RAM Mac OS X (10.6.4) Black Satin MBP Speck Cover; 23" Dell SP2309W LCD Flat Panel iphone 4
Wife and I just got our iphone 4s. We both have facetime activated. Home wifi network.I can open a direct facetime call to her phone, but it doesnt register on her phone, call fails.I can call her phone, she answers and we both select facetime through the call, voice goes through but I can only see my face/she can only see her face.I have tried power cycling the phones, resetting the phones(through general settings), disabling my firewall. Nothing seems to fix the problem. What am I missing? Any thoughts? Iphone4, MacBook iOS 4
I have been having major issues talking on my ip4, proximity issue, when talking numbers dialing, face time connecting, placing call on hold, mute etc... many of you are experiencing the same issue, yesterday I bought an Otter case and noticed the cut out for the prox sensor is right above the top speaker, appifiny.... when talking I now hold the phone so the top of phone is against my ear holding the mouth end out slightly, the issue is completly GONE... Before I would rest the phone against the side of head/face, now holding the phone with the sensor against my ear it is perfect... Funny that apple would not post somewhere the location of the prox sensor to quite all the disgruntled people out there... I got to figure this is the same reason others are having the prox issue, I will add the size/shape of the otter case makes the phone easy/natural to hold in this position.Message was edited by: ipdweller iOS 4
The Jabra Cruiser is a popular bluetooth car speaker that works with iphone. One of the features of the speaker is that it will announce the callers name, using the phones address book. However, users are not able to get the feature to work with iphone. Jabra says its using Bluetooth PBAP (Phone Book Access Protocol) so it should work as the iphone supports that protocol (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3647).The speaker does successfully use voice dial with the iphone, so you can say a name and the speaker announces the name and calls that number, so it seems like it should work.Has anyone gotten the announce feature to work, or have any insight into why it wont? iphone 4 iOS 4

I just upgraded to OS4.0.2 and have lost some of the functionality I had with my Ford Sync system with the previous OS. Specifically, now my phone book will not download to Sync so I cant call a contact by voice command through Sync as I did with previous SW.If I call the contact via the iphone, then I can talk using the Sync system and I can answer new calls or end a call, etc. I can call a number as long as I know the number, I just cannot call using the contact name in my phone book. The phone book will just not download and sync tells me my phone doesnt support that function. Is this another Apple improvement to get us to buy the iphone 4? Desktop PC iOS 4

Recently I have been having off and on problems with my iphone 4 during phone calls. I can make the call, talk to the other person for several minutes then all of a sudden the other person wont be able to hear me. It has happened 5 times in the last 2 weeks. I made sure I was not in airplane mode, or accidentally hit the mute, and I had a strong cellular signal. I tested the microphone through voice memos and no problems but as soon as I make a call the other person cant here me at all. Not sure if it is a phone problem or carrier problem. Any suggestions? iphone 4 iOS 4
Hi,my iphone 3GS upgraded to 4.01 OS has the same problem of many other phones , the message reported in the subject. With this message the phone hasnt audio speakers and can only be used with headphones or similarAfter reading many many similar post in Italy and in this Discussione Forum I made some test.First at all I have to say that my phone got wet during a traking trip on the mountain this summer! Peaty! Now I know that there is a red spot that mark the phone to prevent Apple to fix problems due to customer, and this is rightBut I made some test 1.Using the voice recorder that has a control that can select speaker or headphones, if you select speaker the audio goes, even with the message, and if you use another application in multitasking way this goes even too2.If you select this second application alone, it doesnt go.3.When you unlock the phone the volume control goes but after a few seconds it desappear. When the volume control is on the display the audio goes but till the message pop up.All those test show us that the hardware is ok but is the software that treats some internal trigger in a bad wayI ask to Apple an help to solve this problem otherwise coustomer will be unable to use iphone in a right way with a marketing damage even for Apple itself Acer X50G Windows Vista
When using MMS messenging, since updating to iphone 4 software, i get a lovely sounding woman saying the word she thinks I am trying to type.Whilst this is occasionally useful it is generally quite embarrasing - does anyone know how to turn off? I cant see in settings iPhone3Gs iphone OS 3.1.3
I cant say for definite that any of this will help anyone but I thought Id share what Ive got.On upgrading my 3G from 3.1.3 to 4.0.0 it went a bit iffy. On upgrading to 4.0.1 it went to the same awful place that most have been describing here.By luck more than intelligence and with the help thats available by a quick and simple Google I downgraded to 3.1.3. I had copied my 3.1.3 back up and my 4.0.1 back up to separate folders (so there was a little bit of intelligence going on !!).Things did not go smoothly though. The restore I wanted to use wouldnt show in iTunes and I had to move the restore files in the MobileSync folder around a bit before I got what I needed. I believe I set the iphone up as a new phone to finally get it to do what I wanted it to do but after completing the downgrade and restore I then managed to re-upgrade to 4.0.1 automatically through iTunes - I was kicking myself with both legs at this point.Anyway, I restored with my 4.0.1 backup but then iTunes kept generating an error message. Following another quick Google I learned that there might be duplicate/corrupt files to look for. Sure enough I discovered that 3 voice memos had become 3 x 3 voice memos. I copied the originals to a safe place, deleted all 9 from iTunes, synced, and then restored the 3 originals - job done.It was a prime opportunity to have a flipping good tidy up so I deleted all the apps I dont use which was a surprisingly high percentage (and you know its the same for you !!) and then I reinstalled all the others one by one.In line with recommendations found in several of the high-volume threads for this long-ignored problem I have also: Reset Network Settings in General/Settings, removed all search criteria in General/Home Button/Spotlight Search, unfoldered any folders, done a couple of double hard resets, and smeared the handset with vanilla and passion fruit flavoured probiotic yoghurt whilst singing Rihannas Umbrella backwards in Swedish… twice… but then I havent got Colin from Hulls Jack Russell to lick my phone in the morning for me.I later discovered that Bento 3 had been massacring data willy-nilly - in particular there seemed to be an issue with media files. I backed up all the Bento data on my computer, trashed Bento from the iphone, reinstalled Bento to the iphone, and then synced all the data afresh - job done. A very important point in Bento is that before you sync or back up you should always close Bento down on your computer and re-open it as it seems to need that in order to verify any amendments you have made. Bento syncs have gone from minutes to seconds now.My iphone is working just fine on 4.0.1 now - the odd tiny lag, sure, but I believe thats always been the case. I managed to retain all of my data including text messages and everything, phew. I have no idea which of the million things I did that ultimately fixed the problem but the 3G clearly is capable of running 4.0.1 - the problem seems to lie with how the upgrade process itself took place and whether there were deficiencies in that area or whether maybe the users current iphone data condition plays more of a part. This final point opens up a whole raft of other questions because I never corrupted my data - Apple Updates, iphone, and iTunes apparently did that for me !!For the record: I never had a bazillion apps on my iphone, I regularly back up, I try to keep things tidy, I always bag every update that Apple recommend. It seems the whole concept of iPhones and iTunes keeping things simple isnt working any more - Im a bit nerdy so I seem to have resolved this problem and have hopefully dug deep enough into duplicates and/or corruptions to bode well for the future…… but thats not true for most people.Apple - shame on you… your long, long silence is deafening.Complain here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html - dont just assume that other people will do it - you need to do it too. I have a unlocked iphone 3g, unlocked by o2, now using a BT Mobile sim and running on 4.01. I have changed the voicemail number to 1571 by using *5005*86*1571#, have used the code to check and says 1571 is stored. But when i use the 1 or Voicemail icon i just get a few bleeps, i think because its dialling a different number. dialing 1571 manually works fine.Any ideas anybody. Thanks 3g iOS 4
My husband got an iphone first; he syncs it with his MacBook.6 months later I dove in and got an iphone (3G). I wanted to sync my phone independently but my husband thought he would be helpful and plugged it into his MacBook while logged into his account and it seems to have synced with his iTunes library, it dumped a ton of his garbage apps onto my phone, made a big mess on my phone. Were both very busy and so now months have gone by and hes downloaded more apps and Ive downloaded different apps and weve got 2 phones worth of cute voice memos of the kids, misc notes, data entered into apps, etc etc. I tried syncing my iphone with my computer at work but it gives me the we will wipe all the content off of your phone when you sync warning in the Music tab which because I dont want to lose my cute voice memos of the kids, I refuse to do. The LOGICAL thing IMO would have been to have the master / slave relationship between phone & computer be user-specified but this is not how Apple works -- the computer is the master and my poor little phone is at risk of losing all my great content if I dont figure out MacThink.... It seems to have created a backup on my work computer (in addition to the now-ancient one on the MacBook...) I created a separate login on the MacBook for me & tried syncing with iTunes in a separate account but it still tells me this phone is synced with another computer warnings (as if 2 separate accounts on one computer = 2 computers??) I tried doing the shared library thing with my hubbys itunes account but seems to only include audio content (not apps, photos, etc).Ive read dozens of articles on the main Apple support and in the discussion group but still unclear about several issues:1. How do I know which computer (and account) my iphone thinks it is synced with?2. How do I disengage with whatever my iphone thinks it is synced with and start fresh (with my current iphone content completely preserved including app data, voice memos, photos, notes, etc)?e.g. can I make an up-to-date backup on my PC at work, copy that backup somehow to my account on the MacBook at home, and then restore my iphone from this backup with them happily married forever after? any possibility 3. I received and iphone 3G in December 2008. So far it has worked very well. Recently I discovered a hairline crack in the bottom of the casing near the USB plugin. I have a black casing, which seems to be the one with which people do not have trouble with. The crack is about 3/4 of an inch long and is perpendicular to the base of the phone. Sometime after I discovered the crack I began to hear an unusual noise coming from my phone. It sounds like a very quiet buzzing noise. The phone makes the noise somewhat randomly. I have yet to find anything that the noise correlates with. So far the phone only makes this noise when it is on. I do not having to be using the phone to hear the noise though. I will often last for about 5-15 seconds and then go away. The noise can return in under a minute or not come back for several hours. When I am walking around I cannot hear it because it is so quiet. If I were to talk with a person in a would room in a normal voice I would not be able to hear the noise. It sounds like the noise is coming from the hairline crack. Is there a warranty that covers the casing of my phone? Is there any reason for the sound and can I do something about it? Macbook Pro iphone OS 3.1.3
According to what Ive read, the maximum length of ring tones is 30 seconds, but in my experience the actual play time of a ring tone is 15 or 16 seconds. Can someone tell me how to get the whole ring tone to play, or is it something to do with how quickly AT&T sends the call to voice mail? Personally, I think a little extra time to answer the phone would be nice sometimes, but there isnt anything in Settings to determine how long to ring before going to voice mail. iphone 3G iOS 4
The GPS in MAPs is pretty good, itself. Apple should release an update, with 3D views & voice Navigation. Apple, there is no reason to allow other Apps, take away features you care about! People would have been thrilled, at the announcement for an iphone 4, giving us turn by turn navigation and 3D ground level views. It just may have made 2 million in 3 days... I, and the rest of us, most likely agree that MAPs is ancient! Its about time already, and hope youre working on an new MAPs update soon. I mean, other than turn by turn, or the addition of the compass, in the iphone 3GS, did not give us much of anything else... There really has not been a Major rediesign, to Maps. And, seems very odd to me... MAPs looks like the 1G still, and needs a makeover! Im expecting Ground Level, with 3D landscape modes! The time is now, not next year.Apple, you know better than to not redesign MAPs, yet you have Added great new features to all other applications like the iTunes Store, Calculator, iPod, ect ...Does anyone else here agree with me? Or is there something Im missing in MAPs? I would love to know!Peace Out, iPeople!-BeersYourFriend DELL XPS 1640 Windows 7 iPad Rocks!
Where does the voicemail password come from? iphone4 iOS 4
Does anyone know a good way to put a DND (do not disturb) on incoming phone calls? The idea is to send calls directly to voice mail while still leaving the phone on to receive email & text messages. While at work or in meetings, it would be nice to not be bothered by calls especially from specific people. Ideally it would be really nice to one or all of the following:-Function to send all calls to voice mail without ringing-An option when an incoming call is coming in to send the person to voicemail with the choice of a prerecorded message such as In a meeting or At work etc.-Send specific people to voice mail without ringing, possibly with a prechosen message. iphone iOS 4
I recently purchased an iphone 4 from Three in Ireland when they released it last Friday. It arrived Tuesday and they ported my number from O2 Ireland. But I have been unable to send text messages. Everything else works fine, make/receive calls, 3G data, and I can receive text message, but not send. It just says message sending failure.I have been talking to Threes technical support 3 times. They told me to reset network settings and reset phone settings, but to no avail. All iOS and carrier settings updates have been installed. The SMSC number is correct, (checked by dialing *#5005*7672#) Also, one of the tech guys I was talking to said to dial ##002# and then #330*0000# to reset some network settings as well, but that did not work either. Is anyone else having this issue or seen it before? Or any advice? Thanks iphone 4 iOS 4

Dear Mr. Jobs,I wish to congratulate you in your ability of rejuvenating the Apple brand over the past decade. The first computer my family ever purchased was an Apple IIc. My school computers were always Apple hardware. However, for most of my adult life I’ve been a PC and never owned a post iMac Apple product but always envied those around me. When I have to work in the Computer labs on EKU Campus, I choose Mac. Because of this long distance love affair, I received my first iphone as a gift, and my view of Apple as a company and a brand has dramatically changed. In 2007, I was given an iphone (8 GB) for Christmas from my wife; she had been secretly saving for the purchase for several months. Much to her chagrin, it failed to work out of the box. She cried and apologized all day. The AT&T store said that it was a SIM Card reader issue. When the store manager called Apple Customer Service, they explained that I had to return the phone directly to Apple with a turnaround time of approximately 10 business days. The store manager did not understand why this was necessary when they had iPhones in stock. He chose to replace the original, even though it was not company policy (January 2008).This iphone was wonderful and I showed it off to all of my friends, family, and co-workers. However, it began to develop yellow and green streaks on the screen and air bubbles under the glass plate. When I took the iphone to the Apple store in Knoxville, they apologized and happily replaced it (March 2008). Its replacement developed air bubble issues and I continued to use the phone until it was unresponsive (September 2008). I returned this phone to the Knoxville store as well and was given a replacement. Both of these phones were given to me without a box and it is my impression that they may have been refurbs or returned phones that had been restored to factory settings within the store. My fourth iphone began to have syncing issues, App refresh issues, and crashes with the OS 2.2 update. These problems continued with the 2.2.1 and 3.0 updates, it also developed air bubbles. After contacting Apple Customer Service, I was able to solve the problem, only to have them begin again after approximately 13+ usage hours. Frustrated by these failings, my wife and I called; then, emailed Apple Customer Service with a letter similar to this one. At that time, my wife received a call during the day, and she was made aware of the fact that none of the previous issues had been reported by the Knoxville store. In addition, the Apple records did not have my current phone shown as being used by an AT&T customer. Their response to the issues was a iphone 3G replacement that would cost me an additional $99 because the old one was out of date. My wife agreed not knowing that I had this same option available through an AT&T upgrade. I returned my iphone Edge to Apple; since, my wife had agreed to the trade and it did not change my upgrade schedule with AT&T. However, I was disappointed in the fact that up to this point, my wife had spent $600 on my iphone and I had yet to receive a device that worked. I mentioned this to the Customer Service rep and she seemed genuinely concerned but did not offer any additional reimbursements. When I received my current iphone 3G last June, It worked well and I was extremely happy with the OS 3 updates. However, with each update since the original, I have had to reinstall USB drivers on all three of my computer. Starting in April 2010, after an update, my iphone 3G no longer registers as a camera on any of my computers. I have reinstalled USB drivers and completed two restores. The first restore was required because of an attempted/failed sync that sent the phone into a cycle of unstoppable refreshes once the phone was unlocked. (I lost approx. 150 photos of my daughter as a result of this restore.) The iphone continued to freeze and refresh unexpectedly; so, I completed another “successful” restore.Currently, the iphone will sync with iTunes but still does not show as a proper camera. I have reinstalled all Apple software; however, this has not solved the problem. In addition to the sync/download issues, streaming podcast via wifi has become a consistent problem. It will crash 7 out of 10 times while streaming on my home network. I choose this option because I try to save space for pics since I cannot currently download onto my computer. I must say that my frustrations with the iphone have begun to ware my patience with the device and Apple as a brand. Whereas, I use to taut the abilities of my phone and the Customer Service, now I’ve become unimpressed and repeatedly lowering my expectations of performance. The convenience of being able to share digital pictures of my daughter with her grandparents has been wonderful. When it works, it is a great tool; I even convinced my in-laws to buy one. Yet the most disheartening thing was a comment my wife made after we watched the Keynote last week. She said, “What? I can’t believe they have a better phone already. Isn’t that a fourth upgrade or something? I feel like such an idiot for spending $500 on a phone that has never really worked. I should have waited.”Now, I am wondering why I even want to keep my phone. As it stands I could walk into to AT&T get a free phone, reduce my monthly phone bill, and just run my iphone 3G like an iPod Touch that sort of works. I understand hardware limitations often restrict software ability. Does this mean that Apple anticipates making their devices obsolete within two generations? If so, why were we not told this? I want to be a loyal Apple consumer. I even had visions of using my awesome iphone as way to convince my wife that we should become a Mac family. Yet, my history with this device and the current view of consumer bounce-back on iPhones, begins to worry me. As of right now, I don’t know if I want to upgrade to a new iphone 3GS let alone 4. It seems like I would just seem gullible when the next one no longer works. Part of me says cut my losses, wait out my family plan contract with AT&T, and go somewhere else. Maybe, after the iphone 6 or whatever comes out, enough of the kinks will be fixed, and it will be worth my money to purchase again. However, the rest of me, remembers writing DOS code on my family’s Apple IIc and watching the floppy disk boot. Those moments changed my life. I’ve been using and teaching with computers ever since.________________________________________________________I have contacted/emailed Gizmodo, iLounge, Engadget, TUAW, and Macworld hoping to generate a response or at least some answers about the quality control issues I mentioned in my Open Letter to Steve Jobs. Since writing the letter (06-14-10), I have completed three full restores, all of which were backup from February. The first one was prompted by an iTunes download glitch. I attempted to download two podcasts, the downloads failed and wiped my entire music catalog off of the iphone. So I decided to restore to a previous backup. While using the first restore, I belieive I may have found one possible solution to the camera issue. Picasa may be deleting info packets as it deletes pictures after downloads. I attempted to download some random pics as a test for the now working driver; then, deleted them using Picasa, like I’ve done in the past. Immediately afterward the computer no longer recognized the camera. After a second reboot (again the February backup) no problems until Itested the camera driver and it happened again. Hence a third restore was necessary. The third time I used the Windows Photo Gallery manager and deleted the pics using the iphone, no problems. It seems to be working now, but at least three phone calls were bumped directly to voice-mail during the day, two before and one after the restores. This has been a newly recurring event since about mid-May but is starting to occur more often now. This is my fifth iphone and all have had some kind of issue; bad SIM card reader, air bubbles, color streaking, or as mentioned above, repeated software crashes. Its not jailbroken nor have I ever attempted that process. Could anyone at your site tell me if my horrible history with the iphone is close to common or radically unlucky. I am thinking about updating from a 3G to the 3GS using the Radio Shack trade-in credit but am very skeptical of what I might get in return.__________________________________________________________________________It has been a month since my first set of emails went out. Yesterday, I went to the new Apple Store/Genius Bar in Lexington, KY and was told that they would order me a replacement. I dont know for sure if this will be a new one or a refurb but am skeptical. I am also wondering if it comes out of the box with iOS4 does that mean Apple is knowing hardware with faulty software. Could this be a suable offense or simply a bad business move. My deepest concern is the fact that my original letter sent to Apple has gone unnoticed.I guess what I am trying to say is, what can anyone tell me that would give me hope to stay with Apple? iphone 3G iOS 4 PC Laptop
I have the original iphone and Ill be travelling in Spain for a week, where I would like to buy a SIM card with a modest amount of voice minutes, say 200. I do NOT need data (although if I could easily get it I would of course take it.) I do not want to jail-break my phone. Since Apple makes it very difficult to just voice a complaint to them, Ill just post it here. I had an iphone 3G and went to answer it quickly one day while it was plugged in and the short charging cable made it slip from my hands and hit the corner of my nightstand. This happened right around when Apple started the screen replacement program. I brought it in and forked over the $199 to get the screen replaced. I asked if I could get the damaged piece back, or at least the LCD since it was in perfect condition (it was mine after all and I was buying a replacement). They said that I couldnt have it because they had to send it back to apple for research (read: putting it on new touch-glass and reselling). I was also notified that my water sensor was triggered on the bottom of my phone and I told them it had never been near water, and it worked fine. When I got my phone back, the metal was separated from the plastic backing slightly and I asked about it and the worker said that it can happen with the replacements like that. I really didnt care. My phone worked fine and it wasnt a big deal. The problem: about 1 1/2 - 2 weeks later, my new display started losing pixels. I ended up losing about 6-10 rows all the way across the bottom of my screen. I brought it back in because obviously the screen they gave me was faulty (probably off of someone elses cracked screen phone), and they told me that they couldnt do anything to fix it because it looked like the metal was separated from the backing a bit, and the water sensor was triggered so my warranty was void. I understand my overall phone warranty being void because of the water sensor I suppose, but for my replacement screen which was obviously broken at no fault of my own to not be under warranty 2 weeks after buying it?? Im very disappointed in the way apple handled this situation because I feel like I was robbed of a perfectly good LCD and $199. Apple, if you are reading this, you need to do a better job of keeping record of what issues are wrong with a phone when you do a service such as a screen replacement so that people dont get screwed over if your replacement is faulty. Poor customer service. Ive been stuck with a bad LCD screen for 8 months now because I dont want to pay to have your mistake fixed. Ill make sure to post this everywhere I can so that you can be sure to see this. iMac 24" 3.06 GHZ Mac OS X (10.5.8)
