iphone 3G frozen after recent OS update. Now stuck on restore

Today I updated my iphones OS (original OS - not jailbroken) and after having downloaded the new OS, itunes attempted to install the new OS onto my 3G iphone. when the phone freezes, it has an apple logo and progress bar on the screen. It ALWAYS freezes at approximately 20% according to the phone screen. Itunes freezes at 50% when it is restoring iphone software.I have restarted my iphone over 3 times (by pressing and holding down both the power and the circle button) and the phone does restart but tells me to plug it into itunes. When I plug it into my computer and connect to itunes, itunes tells me i need to:check the iphone software update server to identify this deviceI click check and this works ok. However another error message pops up that says:iTunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used in itunes.I click ok and then press restore and it seem sto work except that it freezes again as i described above.Ive noticed other people are experiencing similar problems and wondered if they have found any solutions to this? Would really appreciate ANY help as at this state, my iphone is BRICK that doesnt work as either a phone, gaming console, or organiser.I am very disappointed with Apple for releasing an OS that in effect disables the core purpose of the iphone (a PHONE!!!) and now have lost confidence in their products. iphone 3G very unhappy custome

On new iOS updates iphone 3G

Im running on iOS 4.0.1 and downloaded the 4.0.2 in iTunes (but NOT installed in my iphone yet, its just downloaded). So everytime I click the update button, it tells me if I want to install the 4.0.2 update that has been downloaded days ago. I decided not to install it since iOS 4.1 is coming.My question is, when iOS 4.1 becomes available from the Apple server and I click update, will iTunes detect the new 4.1 and overwrite 4.0.2 stored in my iTunes? Or do I need to install 4.0.2 in my iphone first to give way for iTunes to detect 4.1 for download?Thanks in advance! HP SlimLine Windows Vista

4.0.1 Errors Post iphone 4

So, this is the seventh time Ive tried to restore. I keep getting error 9. Ive tried both usb ports and another cable. Now I am trying a new user account. What else can I do? Ive already called Apple and dont have access to a store. I get 3/4 of the way through the firmware update and it gives me an error. Very frustrating. Anyone have the same problem? How to fix ios4 induced slowness on 3G iphone 3G

Well, having tried Apple retail store, Apple online help, telephone support and getting stonewalled or denial or just no solution I realised the actual solution lays in the longer game. Even after leaving my email address and phone number on Apple Feedback sites I never had someone contact me to address my 3G issues personally. So the strategy I have now is as follows: I meet on average probably ten business people per day through my work, different people mostly. Inevitably there is an opportunity to talk about mobile phones etc, even if just over coffee break. I make it my point now to recount my 3G-ios4-slowdown horror-story-and-no-admission-by-Apple story to as many as possible , but more than that - I ensure they get the clear picture that buying an Apple iphone can be a BIG risk regarding the handset and after-sales customer service too, and that choosing another handset/OS (e.g Android) should be seriously considered for health and happiness (and business effectiveness if you rely on these devices). I figure a percentage will carry that message on to other conversations with other business people. Its a kind of viral marketing - designed to build a volume over time exponentially - a lobbying force or just a gradual force of consumer changed habit that will demonstrate to Apple that ignoring your previously loyal customers and going in denial about it only results in customers turning on you in force - which over time will be reflected in lower sales and of course more widespread bad reputation. Thats capitalism for you, but with the shoe on the other foot. I was Apples biggest fan but now I am compelled to continue this strategy until I get some truthful admission by them and solutions (without the obvious one which cynically I suspected from the start was their strategy - forcing 3G owners to move to the iphone 4). Either that or if no help comes our way then to continue to market the counter-message and warning about Apple products and service. I am no mathematician if I meet two people person per day who each go on to tell two more people per day - how many is that in one 30 day month who carry the message? The clock is ticking. You can do this too - it the long run it places pressure on the company to change or at least respond. That may be better than hacking your 3G to try to get back to OS 3.1.3 etc as there will be no need for Apple to change their ways if you keep it to yourself like that. Think about it again. seriously? i shouldnt have to downgrade the operating system, or wait for weeks or months while you play with iphone 4 and the ipad and try to revamp the ipods of yesteryear. my phone freezes almost every time a call comes in, it wont load contacts and there is no menu while i am dialing a phone number. everything else works great but you see, the only thing is i have an iphone not an ipod touch so making calls is a pretty important thing here. my mom is whining about me not answering her calls because she has a 3gs and so does my step dad and they are begining to believe i am making it up about these issues....and its your stupid fault for not fixing the stupid issues.so please fix your operating system before i do the unthinkable and take my business to another carrier with an unlocked and jailbroken device. jerks! iOS 4.1-will it work on 3G iphone 3G

I see that a new software update is coming out soon - ios4.1. Will this version actually work on the 3G, or will it make it even worse like the last update did? Since I got iOS 4, like many other people, my phone has turned into a nugget - I hate it. Is this newer update going to help rectify the issues, and make our iPhones as good as what they used to be? Or is this update also only going to suit 3Gs and iphone 4 users? I dont want to install the update if it is going to make it worse - saying that, I dont know that it COULD get any worse considering how crap it is atm Windows XP

Its not exactly iPhones problem, its with the itunes. So here it is, Ive changed my country from US to Thailand because I moved back. Then I cant get my apps update on my itunes anymore, true that some can download by the phone but if the app is so big, itll take be like forever. It happened to be a problem with Thai store because when I tried to update, itd say no updates available, then I changed the country to the US. And it found everything that needed to update, but when I clicked it just said youre have to be in Thai store only to update. I was like what? What else can I do? Ive never had this problem before, its just a Thai stores problem. Please help, and suggest what can I do, where can I report to get this fix? Thanks.

I have an iphone 3G running ios4.01 and the latest version of iTunes.I dont know how it started. I was updating to iTunes 10 and I lost power to my computer (iphone was not connected at the time). After a reboot, I uninstalled iTunes because it would no longer run (shutdown in middle of installation does that). Then I downloaded and installed iTunes 10.0.0.68. Everything seemed fine. I even bought a song or two. I wanted to sync that song to my iphone so I connected it to my computer. I have set custom sounds in windows so that it lets me know when a device connects. The connect sound plays but the iphone does not start to charge, nor does iTunes pop open, nor does windows explorer pop open with device options. Nothing happens.So I open up devices and it shows me the usual stuff but categorized under unknown is Apple Mobile Device USB or something like that with a warning explanation point ! next to it telling me that there is an error with it. So I right click and select troubleshoot. Cant fix problem. So I open up the (almost) never failing google and start searching. I find a mind-boggling amount of cases similar but usually with an iPod not an iphone and those were solvable. I finally get to one that says that I should try resetting my iphone and making connect in recovery mode. So I hold the power and home buttons down until the iphone turns off. I open iTunes, hold down the home button and connect the iphone. The Connect to iTunes screen appears... and nothing happens. Not immediately, not after 30 minutes. Nothing (except for the iphone timing out and powering off again). So then I take a huge leap of faith and decide to actually use apples support page. After sorting through stuff designed for the mentally challenged who cannot locate the home button, I find http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538 .This is exactly the problem I am having and yet following the instructions brings up problems That I havent seen before.So I follow the instructions like a good dog and locate the driver under Universal Serial Bus controllers and as per the instructions I uninstalled it. I then Scan for hardware changes. This is where the instructions start to seem non applicable. As it said it would, scanning for hardware changes found and installed drivers from the iphone. But instead of installing the Apple Mobile Device driver, I now have a device under portable devices called Apple iphone.This seemed fine but...iTunes still failed to recognize it. Windows seemed to think that the device is some sort of camera (applying a camera icon to it in the simple device manager). Windows explorer popped up this time and I can see all the photos on my iphone and copy them and all but it still wants to think this is a camera. The iphone charges now at least.The instructions continue and I try to follow. It says to search for updates to the Apple Mobile Device driver. Because this is not there and there seems to be no way of getting it there, I apply this to the Apple iphone under Portable Devices. Everything seems to run smoothly until: Click the Browse button, then navigate to the following location: C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. it seems to tell me that if I am on a 64-bit edition of windows (as I am) I should search for it under C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. but in that location the drivers folder in that location doesnt exist (I dont have 32-bit iTunes installed I guess.) So I go to the C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers directory instead and not only does the folder exist but the file is there too. The file usbaapl64 is there and the instructions seem to imply that I should use it if I am 64-bit windows. So I try to use it.BAM! Another problem: The folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver (which it does), make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.Seriously. What do I do now? Modified HP Pavillion Elite iOS 4 Windows 7 64 bit.

I connected to itunes and was advised of update 4.0 (or something similar) so clicked on update. After some 20+ minutes I received a message saying update had failed. Weird Problem Enabling 3G from EDGE works only with airplane mode iphone 4

Hi all,My first iphone 4 had this issue of remaining in EDGE even when turned to 3G and on enabling/disabling airplane mode it turns to 3G with full bars. So assuming there was a hardware/software issue with iphone 4 i sold it. I got another iphone 4 from different country and the same above issue haunts me.In iphone 3Gs enabling 3G from EDGE takes place quick in the same area and and the same network as iphone 4. I would like to know whether:1. Issue is with hardware/software of iphone 4.2. anybody else having the same issue.3. Is it a network error. Done with iphone after 3g ios4 update

Since the ios4 update, my iphone 3G has become all but totally unusable. I know Im not the only one having these problems, and I know Apple is well aware of the issue.Im writing not to ask for a solution to this problem (since I know there isnt one yet), but to voice my dissatisfaction with the way this has been handled by Apple. Sending out an OS update that renders my two-year-old product unusable, leaving me with no recourse other than to purchase a new phone, makes me, as a consumer, feel angry, cheated, and manipulated. Simply trying to send texts or make phone calls is now such a infuriating experience that Im forced to look for a new cellphone. Because of this experience, and because of the lack of support Ive received, Ive decided it will not be another iphone. Im a long time Apple customer and Mac user. My iphone 4 will not connect to my home network no matter what I try. The network is not secured and has always worked fine with the old 3gs. It works fine with my sons iphone 4 but not mine or my wifes. When I try to connect it simply comes back with Unable to join the network.... Downloading Times Out HELP iphone 4

one would think that when testing older firmware apple removed the background images for the 3g stateing it did not perform well, with that said in the coming update they fixed many bugs that improves performance on the 3g phones. wouldnt you think they would allow the 3g to have background images. seeing that it was not the main cause of the performance issues the 3g was having with the current firmware. would be like a here sorry for the inconvenience we caused type of gift, to people like my self that dealt with the poor performance until apple narrowed down the problem and correct it accordingly. Hello,I work on a mac but my sister has a pc. She recently upgraded her iphone from ios3 to ios4.Furthermore, she recently upgraded her system os from xp to win 7. Ever since the iphone update,her phone was significantly slower than before. Therefore, she wanted to downgrade her iphone from ios4 to ios3.I downgraded it but didnt do a backup. Now all her info is GONE! The only backup that was done, was when she upgraded from ios3 to 4, on the previous OS Win XP.I wanted to know if there is anyway of getting her data back?Is there software that can recover from the iphone, even after an upgrade or downgrade?Is there software that can recover from a formatted drive, even with a new copy of windows installed?Any help is greatly appreciated.Thanks iphone OS 3.1.3

I decided to update the software on my iphone after i went to download an app and it basically said i needed the new software to download it. It backed up my iphone then updated the software. neverending update to OS4 iphone 3G

Hello everyone,I have had an iphone 3G for quite some time now and never had any problems. Im trying to update it to OS4.whatever and actually the process of saving my data when updating is neverending. I plugged it and let it update for 24 hours and it hadnt even saved half of the content. The update had not even started. My phone is not even half-full so I dont have that many data on it.My question would then be to know if that process is always that long? Do I really have to save the content before I update if I dont want to lose my data? 3G update to v.4.0.2 heads-up iphone 3G

Just updated to iTunes 10 & then ran the OS 4.0.2 update on the phone. Shut down the phone & restarted it after syncing and the thing couldnt fine my SIM. Rebooted again & still couldnt find it. Shut down & removed/replaced the SIM & restarted and it found it. So, just wanted to throw that out there in case someone else has the same problem. Now I wonder what else Im going to find. I did update of my 3G to OS4.0.1 or 0.2, after that my GPS functione gone. This is second device what Ive got from my dealer. First was with the same problem and they changed to new one. New 3G with factory settings and 3.1. worked perfectly. GPS was very precise, but now after getting 4.0 works only trinangulation. I dont want to go again to the service center. Im trying to download the new iphone software that but every time I try and do it, it just gets locked on backing up my iphone and the little green bar moves about 3% in 3 hours.Is this is a common error that other people have found? iphone Restore Stuck

I know there are many threads on restoring the iphone but i could not see anything which helped me resolve my problem. Against my better judgement last night i tried to update my iphone 3g to the new iphone software 4.0.2. Well i wish i hadnt.My iphone is now stuck in recovery mode. I go into itunes to restore it. The green bar on itunes gets to about 75-80% and then just gets stuck there!!!Ive gone through all the steps in the help sections and other forums but it just keeps getting stuck. I even left my phone overnight last night in case it was just taking a long time and it was at exactly the same point i left it!! Any ideas. Gap between glass and metal band. iphone 4

I have a really thin gaps between the glass and metal band in the upper front and back right corner, and was wondering if anyone else has noticed small gaps between the glass and metal band anywhere on their phone. ive had nothing but crappy customer service at both apple stores near me, but was eventually told by the genius that i could come back with another appointment before the 30 days and swap for a new retail phone in the box. The only thing that worries me is getting a whole new phone with more different problems then the one i have with only the gap issue. Hi,I have placed my request for the carrier unlock in. They say it takes up to 10 days and I will have to restore my phone in iTunes after that. Then I will get a message saying the phone is no longer locked to any carrier.How do I know when the update is ready for my phone? Ive had to restore my iphone 4 twice now from a backup, and each time Ive had to spend over an hour recreating folders and reorganizing my apps back into the folders the way I last had them. I guess this is a feature request for backups to retain folder placement and contents, please! The data structures needed seem to exist already and are used by iTunes to remember the apps layout there. How to exit FaceTime iphone

This may sound like a stupid question at first -- but how doI exit a FaceTime connection and revert back to the voice call…?!I mean, if I can go from voice to video I should be able to go back to voice again, right…?!So far I have tried all buttons and options, but I cant find anything that works…! I can mute the FT call and I can of course hang up and call again, but thats not really a solution…Closest thing I found is pressing the home button, but -- just as in a voice call -- that only takes you to the home screen and you are still on speaker, so thats not it either…Am I missing something here…?! URGANT iphone 4 stuck on recovery mode

I just got my iphone 3 days ago! (Saturday) I went over to my cousins house to add some songs. When I connected the USB cable to his computer and my iphone it went straight into recovery mode. I thought it was his computer so I went home to my computer and the same problem occurred! I searched everywhere to try to solve this issue. I even downloaded some stuff that supposily forces iDevices out of recovery mode but nothing worked. I also tried holding the 2 buttons and bam, nothing. Please, anyone with a solution, please help me.update Whenever I try to restore, I get an error message. It happens for firmware 4.0,4.01, and 4.0.2. Wont SYNC iphone 3G

Im trying to sync my iphone through iTunes but its not working. First it says something about a duplicate file. Then it says an internal device error has occured. It also sometimes says the required file cannot be found (Im trying to sync a new ringtone onto it and I have NOT moved any previously synced files).I have the latest iphone update and the latest version of iTunes. Ive tried restoring to a back up but then that stuffs up as well.What can I do?? Asus Windows 7

Photo sync issue albums not showing up but photos exist iphone 4

Purchased a 32GB iphone 4 today and am experiencing a weird issue with the Photos app. Even though it says the album from iPhoto is synced (showing 73 photos on my iphone in Settings>General>About) when I launch the Photos app it only shows me my camera roll, not my Photo Library.Now, if I go through Wallpaper, the photos show up via my Photo Library. But this seems like a very clunky way of being able to access photos store on my phone.This isnt my first iphone but something Im not used to having to deal with. microphone level too low iphone 4

It seems like the microphone input level on my wifes iphone 4 is too low. People have trouble hearing her during her calls. Using the headset, speakerphone, or Bluetooth doesnt increase the volume, nor does covering up the noise-cancelling input on the top. Using the voice recorder app, I used the same headset the same distance from my mouth to compare the meter volume against my 1st gen iphone, and the input comes in at least 6dB lower. Is this a defective model that needs to be returned? Or is this expected as part of the new design? My wife says she cant use it as a phone, it may have to go back. It would be great if a future iOS update allowed us to adjust the input level. iphone 4 iOS 4

Cant update iphone 3G Unable to connect with iTunes

Last night I set up my iphone 3G to upgrade to ios4, when I wake up this morning it has the connect to iTunes screen. No problem I thought, can sort that out. But iTunes says it cannot fix it as it needs to be the latest version of iTunes, which I have, I even reinstalled it from the website haha.Edit: OK, managed to connect it using another user on my Mac, just need to work out how to restore the old info, as this user still doesnt like it :PMessage was edited by: steffanbno Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.4) iphone 3G
