Cant see recent backups when trying manual backup or restore iPhone

My iphone crashed the second day I had it (2 weeks ago). I immediately did a restore from the summary page in itunes. I have since had other problems caused by an application. All apps and functions working fine right now, except at this point I see no other backups listed other than the one done on the second day when I look in the backup list accessed by starting the MANUAL restore process. I dont even see any manual backups I have performed. I synch my iphone once or more per day. Because of this (I think) I am losing all app data whenever I have to restore after crashes because I cant choose a more recent backup to restore from. Anyway to use Gps to track lost phone iPhone

Unfortunetly, this being the second iphone i purchase due to having my previous one stolen, i then agian misplaced it. I do know this one was not stolen but was completly my fault. This brings me to my question of, how come apple cannot locate my phone using the amazing gps the phone already had available on it?. A charge would be completly appropriate, but i believe it would just bring somthing more to the table. Everyone at one point either misplaces or reports their phone stolen, so why not a nifty idea of having the phone completly trackable so no one would ever even think of stealing this phone again? i think this is a great idea, but perhaps i am over looking an application that is already available. please, and references or commments, i am more than happy to listen to. iphone 3G Windows XP

Restoring as new device it download new software iPhone

Ive been having various problems even after restoring from backup multiple times. At the Apple store, I was told to restore and select setup new device instead of restoring from backup, incase my backup was corrupted. The rep told me that iTunes would download fresh copies of the operating software, firmware and all apps. Is this true? At no point during the process did iTunes appear to be downloading anything. WOW I hate App Store software updates iPhone 3G

Does anyone elses phone take forever to update an application? Has anyone else updated an App only have it send your phone into a reset? I just updated Texas Holdem on my phone. After 10 minutes of waiting for the thing to update, I re-synced my phone so it would copy onto my iMac and WOW, a half hour later and the meter hasnt budged. Not to mention that I had to make more the 245mb of memory available to upgrade a 129mb app(according to the app store). Whats that all about?! Dropping Calls iPhone 3G

This problem just started yesterday morning. I am unable to make or receive phone calls on the AT&T network. When receiving a call, the phone says I have full signal. When I try to answer the call, the signal bars fall to nothing and then it searches for the network. This happens on both the Edge and 3G areas. When making a call, once again the phone is telling me I have full signal, then it drops to nothing. The call is failed, then searches for the network.I am able to text message, the data is not working. I have restarted, reset, removed the sim card. Im out of ideas. Just a side note, while on GPS in 3G areas, my current location is telling me I am in Cleveland. The problem with that is I live in Delaware. I am not sure if these are related problems.Does anyone have a clue what the heck is going on with this thing. I really dont want to replace it again, this being my second iPhone. Some small problems with my new 3G iPhone

Having some small problems with my new iPhone, nothing major, just annoying.1. When I plug my iPhone in to charge/sync my Adobe photoshop keeps trying to download the photos on my iPhone, which causes an error message from Adobe that it cant download and it stops all syncing and removes my iPhone from iTunes. I have to unplug and reinsert USB cable and sometimes it works ok and sometimes I have to reinsert again. Also when charging, it will disconnect, reconnect and the samething all over again, photoshop trying to get photos and an error message.2. Cant send e-mails via 3G? Iphone Monopoly application wont open

I have downloaded the Monopoly application and it wont open. When i select it on my iphone it just flashes up and automatically closes again. I have tried everything to try and get it to work.I have deleted Monopoly and re-downloaded it, I have deleted it from my iphone and re-synced it, I have turned off my phone and turned it on again, I have delete all other applications and just tried to put Monopoly on my phone, I have restored my whole phone, I have called Apple support and they told me to try all of these above things and more, nothing seems to get it to work. i have tried everything i can think of.Any ideas? iphone Windows XP

Synching Irritations. iPhone 3G

Two really annoying things that continue to drive me up the wall:1) Every time I want to transfer pictures onto my phone or maybe just even one new song, why does iTunes force me to do a complete backup of my phone? What would take 10 seconds ends up taking 20 minutes for absolutely no reason.2) Why when I opt NOT to sync ALL of my apps, does it tell me it will REMOVE Them from my phone completely? No! Why would I want them DELETED? Since when does not copying over something that is ALREADY ON THE PHONE mean that I want them deleted completely from the phone? It doesnt make any sense. None. If I dont have them all checked, it will delete the one not checked.I tried to NOT sync my apps so that I could speed up the process of just syncing my photos. So it tells me its going to delete all my apps if I do that. iTunes is such a miserable failure in the world of Apple/Mac which dominates the logic/useability world in every other arena. It continues to confound me the absolute poor structure, logic, and programming of their flagship software app.I mean seriously, how hard is it for this application to know that its already got all my apps both in itunes and on the phone? Every time I connect it, it starts copying over my apps all over again. Why? Is this 1983 when it cant tell if the app has been updated and needs synching? If someone can give me some input on these items I would appreciate it. VAIO

Im using a 3G iPhone running version 2.2 that I connect to my car radio via a Dension IceLink connection. Apart from a few applications that I have installed, the iPhone is standard, not jailbroken.Until recently, although I received the usual this accessory is not made to work with the iPhone, would you like to use Airplane mode message whenever I connect the iPhone to the car radio, the connection worked fine and I was able to play songs through the car radio using the iPod interface on the iPhone. At first, I wasnt able to charge the iPhone. That problem is now solved since I bought the Scosche PassPort adaptor.However, a couple of days ago, a new problem occurred: I can no longer use the iPod controls when the iPhone is connected.On connecting the iPhone, I still receive the this accessory is not made to work with the iPhone, would you like to use Airplane mode message (I select NO). I live in Seattle and am traveling to London next week. Ill be using a calling card from my hotel-- so I dont want to be charged with roaming fees or phone charges or data fees.How do I set up my iPhone to be of use to me while Im there. Should I turn on Airplane mode the whole time and simply have access to contacts and addresses, are there other settings I should know about? Are there other programs that I can download which might be of use and not require a connection?Any help is appreciated. Strange iPhone 3G mutes sponaneously

Hello,since three days my iPhone 3G behaves a little bit strange.It started with spontaneous vibrations of my iPhone in sleep-mode without touching it. When I woke it up using the home-button it showed the white bell-symbol for one second over the normal lock screen. No, I did not receive any SMS or email Then it became worse: When waking up the phone with the home-button, it showed the strike-through mute-bell and vibrated shortly. But the slider on the upper left of the phone was still up in normal mode! When I klicked it down afterwards, nothing happened. When klicking back upwards, the normal bell-symbol showes up again.This always happens when the phone is in sleep-mode for a few minutes. Mostly it shows the white bell while waking up (okay, thats no problem, but it isnt normal either), from time to time it switches into mute mode while waking up (THATS a problem!). I can only make it ring again by klicking the switch down and up again.I already did a restore using iTunes, but that doesnt change anything. I did not install any new application which could cause the problem.Is there anybody out there who knows whats going on with my iPhone??Timo Windows Vista

Hi all, had to restart iPhone a couple of days ago due to an application crash. Ever since then the phone seems really slow, however after I restarted it came up with the connect to iTunes screen asking me to activate. I force restarted and it came back fine, then the slowness, and now the app store is giving me the us version, apps like pandora are displayed, and everything is in dollars. iPhone screen switches black after moving away from ear

So when Im on a call or listening to vmail and then move the phone away from my ear to either end call or delete a vmail or what not the screen stays or switches to black and Im unable to do anything. I use to have the first gen iPhone and it did this only ever so often, but since I upgraded to the 3G its happening every time. Is there a solution to this? iPhone 3G 2.2 Service null null

I recently updated to the 2.2 filmware which in my understanding upgrade the baseband on my iphone 3g. Now I am unable to get service, and under Settings/General/about in the carrier field it says (null)(null). <Screenshot Below>.I did a fresh install and did not jailbreak (kept it stock), and even using a different AT&T sim card, and it still does not work. A couple of weeks ago the tip of my iPhone earphone broke off into the port. I had my iPhone in the inside of my coat pocket, I come home, take out the earphone and low and behold the tip became stuck inside of it.My iPhone thinks that a set of earphones are constantly plugged in, even tho they are not. Because of this, I have to talk on the phone by either a bluetooth or speaker.About a week ago I went to the Apple store in Manhattan and seeked some help. I didnt have an appointment or anything as I was just touristing around the city and just ran into the Apple store. I was planning on going to my local Apple store sometime after Christmas when I have a few days off and time to take care of it.At the store, an blue shirt genius attempted to pry the piece out with some type of tool to no prevail. He then said to me since the iPhone is still covered under warranty, he would be happy to exchange it right then and there. I told him that I didnt want to as I wasnt prepared because I never backed up any of my contacts and such. The plan for me was to go home, backup my iPhone data, go to my local Apple store, have them look at it, and if they were unable to fix it, then get a new iPhone under warranty.So today I go out to my local Apple store at King of Prussia, PA and the associate and manager there told me that they can not give me an exchange because the tip of the earphone breaking off was due to accidental damage, and accidental damage is not covered by the limited warranty. (I looked over the warranty online after I left and it does say this.) However, how is this accidental damage? It was in my coat pocket comfortably, working fine all the way until I took it out. I asked the associate this and he referred to the roughed up edges on the rounded port to where you put the earphone jack into, and referred to this as accidental damage. BUT...that roughed up edge was caused by an Apple Store employee at the 5th avenue Manhattan store as he tried to pull it out with some tool.After some more arguing with the store manager, I ended up not getting a new iPhone yet....But he did tell me that I can buy a new one for $299; like I didnt know how much I spent on it in the first place.Another thing that ***** tho is that there is no history of me being at the Manhattan store as I never had an appointment and just walked in. But now there is a history of me going into my local Apple store and not getting a new iPhone because of accidental damage, which was caused by an Apple employee. Anyways, what do you all think about this? The manager said it was accidental damage because of the roughed up edges, but those roughed up edges were caused by an Apple employee himself.

Why are Safari and iPod applications so linked iPhone

Does anyone know why the iPhone applications, Safari and iPod, are so linked?Ever since the very original 1.0 iPhone, crashes in Safari have wreaked havoc with the iPods database that lets it keep track of where you are in a song and what has been played when. Even in the newest version of the iPhone software and on an iPhone 3G, this is a problem.Yes, things have gotten somewhat better. Safari crashes less often than it used to (although still quite often enough). If Safari crashes while you are listening to a song, it will probably keep its place. However, if you dont have something playing in the iPod application, and Safari crashes, it is likely that the iPod will forget where you were if you stopped in the middle of a song in the middle of a playlist. It also forgets which podcasts were listened to already, and it loses track of last-played and playcount information when it is next synced.Ive been with the iPhone since the beginning, and upgraded to a 3G as soon as I could. I sync it pretty regularly. Ive been through two original iPhones (bad audio jack on one after several months) and two 3Gs (locked up in the connect to iTunes screen, and even an Apple Genius couldnt get it to exit that mode). Also, Ive used a few Macs over all this time (one at a time) to run iTunes and sync. So I know this happens on multiple iPhones, multiple computers, and multiple copies and versions of iTunes.Its so frustrating that I cant use the iPhones iPod feature as it is intended. I find myself often bringing a nano along just because I know it will properly track my activities and hold my place. Thats hardly what was intended.Is it really that hard for Apple to protect the song information and separate it from Safari crashes? How does Safari crash in a way that it corrupts the song activity information? I dont see any other databses (such as mail, contacts, notes, or the files affiliated with other applications) being wrecked by Safari crashes.I can deal with the Safari crashes. Theyre a pain, but you kind of get used to them. (Even though, 18 months from introduction, its pretty amazing they are still so frequent.) I want copy and paste badly on the iPhone. But I want an iPod that works even more. Removing Passcode from IPhone when using Exchange e-mail

I have an I-Phone 3g with the current version of the software. I recently added my works Exchange email accesss and when I did the Iphone required a passcode.I went to SETTINGS - GENERAL - PASSCODE LOCK it shows it is on.I hit the tab, enter my passcode, click OK and under REQUIRE PASSCODE it shows Immediately. I can change the time to a longer period before is requests the passcode 1 min or 5 minutes - but I cannot disable it!Nor can I remove the ERASE DATA ofter three successive trys.to add insult to injury, I accidentally hit the Emergency Call button on the passcode screen, canceled it and when I entered my passcode it did not recognize it. I cleared out the old code, re-entered the correct code and it still did not recognize my passcode. Then it ERASED ALL MY DATA on the third unsuccessful attempt.I restored from my December 31, backup on Itunes, (45 minutes later) I tried the same thing to see if it was recurring and it was. This time I did not try to enter the code a third time, I turned off the Iphone, and then restarted it. Thankfully it reset the memory or something and the correct code (which I had been entering all along) was accepted. This is happening every time the Emergency Call button is pressed on the passcode screen. I have found a temporary workaround, but this needs to be fixed on about three levels.FIRST - The passcode needs to work when returning from an emergency call.SECOND - We should be ale to decide if we want a passcode on our phone and not have it forced upon us.THIRD - If this is for e-mail security, then the passcode should only be required when accessing the e-mail application not the entire phone.So, comments suggestions, or any ideas are greatly appreciated, I want to remove that passcode.....help.I want to remove the requirement for the passcode, but I can only change the passcode, nor disable it, any suggestions? Several times recently (since updating to v2.2) when Ive received a phone call, my iphone has vibrated but the screen remains locked and blank and so Ive unable to accept the call.Has anyone else had the same problem or got any ideas for a solution? I have a slide show that I have converted to iphone version. It has an extension of m4v. It shows up in the Movies section of the Library. I right clicked on the file and selected Show is playlist Purchased.When I sync my phone, it doesnt show up in videos in the Ipod application. This movie doesnt sync with phone. So... I realize that this has been discussed before. But it *****, so Im bringing it back up again. My gf bought a new car yesterday. Im thankful she doesnt have an iPhone, because its more than a little annoying that Im unable to text people the type of car she bought. Want to have fun with your iPhone? Try typing Lexus without going back and having to correct it. And just for sh*ts and giggles, try typing Acura. Cant do it, huh? Fun!!I get that the iPhone needs to auto-correct words. But it should be able to accurately discern slow and deliberate touches versus fast and furious, mistake laden typing. The phone certainly should not skip letters. The thing wont LET you type the u in Lexus. Even skimming over the top row on the keyboard wont help- it skips the u entirely.Hows your new Lexis driving? Wish you had bough a Acuta instead? Bluetooth Speakerphone with Voice Dial iPhone

Hi All,Because the iPhone does not support voice dialing, I am looking for a speakerphone that does it by itself. I have found the Parrot Minikit Slim, which attaches to the visor, and downloads the contacts from the phone. Then all I have to do is press a button and say the name of the person I want to call. The kits voice recognition finds the contact, and dials it. It even asks, Home or Cellphone if I did not specify. This part works very well, and I am very pleased with it, but the call quality does not seem to be that great. I was wondering if anyone knows of any other bluetooth speakerphones that will do this. It must be able to download the contacts and do voice dialing on its own, as this is the only reason I want to replace my Jawbone II which has excellent call quality. Look I understand everything takes an expert but who came up with the bright idea of locking this phone like fort knox? You cannot remove the stupid black front page screen, you cannot remove the stocks application icon from it, you have to listen to a beep sound (or some other lame ones) for text messages alerts, look I know there are experts out ther thinking they did a great job but PEOPLE PLEASE, even the prepay from the 99cent store has customizable display or atleast your rintones for message alerts.... I have not been able to receive text messages/calls all day. My phone is on, it does not ring vibrate or anything else. I have tried turning my phone off, and back on. When I do that it shows I have a new voice mail but no missed calls.Now when I turn off my phone then back on I am not notified of voice mails, when I press the voice mail icon it no longer shows my voice mail box. Instead it starts calling my voice mail.This may all be AT&Ts fault but my mother and brother, who also have AT&T are having no problems. Anyone have any advice?

Though Ive visited the genius bar, I still have problems with the below issues...1.) My iphone 6 digit passcode (required for my exchange account) corrupts several times each day locking me out and forcing me to restart my phone, after which the code works correctly. YES Ive done multiple restores to no avail. NO its not jail broken, but thanks for your first two very clever guesses.2.) It periodically loses all reception and sits there searching for a minute or two... annoying!3.) When I receive e-mails with pictures in the message body, for example, a receipt from my Marriott hotel stay, half of the page is cut off on the right with NO ability to scroll over and see it. Also, I want a to do list that picks up from my exchange server that I dont have to download as an app. Or better yet a to do list that syncs with icalendar... weird that it doesnt do this!Why no MMS???? While e-mail is superior FOR THOSE WHO HAVE IT, MMS is NOT obsolete yet Steve Jobs, you are too early considering so many people have regular cell phones without e-mail access.Why is there no copy/paste functionality? especially in texting... Copy Cut Paste overall Selection Tools iPhone

I have just downloaded an application by the name of WritePad. It offers full, copy, cut, paste and highlighting of text. These features seem to work really well within the program and offer a look into how some kind of selecting tool might be executed on the iPhone. Try the application for yourself and tell answer me this: Why wouldnt Apple look at this application-- gather some ideas-- and put these tools into all the areas of the iPhone-- not just within one application?I would really like to see some kind of plan executed for copy and paste...Then we can move on to adding MMS... among other things...Message was edited by: Taxidog22 MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I understand a London radio station explained how to get live radio on the iPhone yesterday but you have to register and pay an ongoing subscription to download the programme podcast!!! I downloaded an sms layout from Cydia, then I turned my iphone off because it wasnt showing in the sms application. However, when I turned it on back again, I get the Apple logo but the phone wont start. I tried resetting it many times but it still doesnt work... It gets frozen at the Apple logo.How can I restart it again? iphone 3G Windows XP

Iphone 3GI am away from my computer whith which I synchronise, and want to delete some music to make space for an application (which I will pay for). How can I do this? There must be a way if not it is rediculous, and loses Apple money. I am not adding but deleting..... Various Windows XP

Apps on iPhone failing to sync with iTunes 3G

Pretty much what it says in the subject. Doesnt matter whether I sync or transfer purchases, the only way to get iTunes to contain the same apps as the phone is to download them again through the iTunes store. Which defeats the object I think.Is there any way to fix this? Windows XP Pro

will not find signal iPhone

iPhone (NOT a 3G) was working fine when I went to bed last night, put it on the charger (did not power off) and this morning I had no signal. Tried it in different areas of the house went outside and was unable to get a signal, shutting it off and repowering several times. Tried resyncing the phone, since sometimes thatll get out a bug in my phone, No change. Repowered, no change. Reset network settings, did not work. Repowered, no change. Finally did a restore as a last ditch effort and see no other tricks I could try, that also did not work. I kept getting the waiting for activation, this may take awhile screen. Left it for about an hour, no change. Did a full restore AGAIN, Im no longer getting the waiting for activation screen, but it just says Searching where the signal bars should be. Ive had this phone for about a year and never had this problem. Any suggestions? I did take the sim card out to see if that would work and had no luck. Anyone got any ideas? Windows Vista

Problems registering iPhone

Hi,Recently i bought an iPhone in the UK (O2 network). Two things i wasnt aware of is the fact that it is a speakeasy and I am on a monthly account and secondly it would not work here!I called to an O2 shop and have been told that there is nothing that they can do until such time a it is registered. My problem is I am unable to register it as it requires a UK apple log in which i dont have.Can anybody help me with getting the iPhone working here in Ireland?
