While making calls I hear buzz sound with turned off 3G. iPhone 4

I never had this with my 2G Blackberry Curve in the same areaI live in an area where 2G is stronger than 3G (I seem to get 1 more bar when I turn off 3G). However, once I do that I get a weird buzz sound (like there was a static interference). Its the same kind of sound you here from computer speakers when you place a phone near them. But I tested it away from potential interference sources. Once I turned on 3G, the voice was clean and there was no more buzz sound! I hear those sounds on low when I put to phone to my head. When use speakerphone I hear no static sounds. I had Blackberry Curve 8310 before with ATT that did calls on 2G only and had never this issue. I am using phone without case waiting for a free one in the mail, but I dont hold the bottom and it still does that. Should I take it to Apple Store and diagnose it? Did you have the same problem? iphone 4 iOS 4

Iphone 4 replacement phones

I just purchased an iphone 4 32gb model on Wednesday, September 1st. That friday evening my iphone randomly started turning itself off and was very difficult to turn back on. It also started dropping every call I made after about 10 minutes into the conversation and then completely froze. I could not touch anything on the screen and had to constantly reset it. I went to the apple store today, Monday September 6, and they replaced it no problem. The replacement phone came out of a plain black box and had nothing else with it. I repeatedly asked the genius bar guy if it was refurbished and he told me no. The serial # starts with 5K, which I researched and many people said were refurbished. I dont feel that I should get a refurbished phone when mine was $300 and 5 days old. Im sure there is nothing wrong with refurbished phones but I dont want one when my phone was only 5 days old. Can anyone tell me what they think? I am not a very happy customer right now iphone 4 32gb iOS 4

voicemail password issue iPhone 3G

My phone shows a message Enter voicemail password with option to cancel regardless of what app the phone is running. I hit cancel, message goes away. The message randomly pops back up again randomly. Ive noticed the message pops back up when the phone crashes during running application, listening to music etc or even just pushing the home button. There has never been a password on my visual voicemail before. How do I get the message to stop popping up. I looked under settings for a turn off password and still randomly appears again. Its so annoying and I am ready to break this stupid phone with a hammer. I called the tech support and was request to pay for tech support since its out of warranty. Thanks iphone 3g 4.02 Windows XP

Screen flashing horizontal lines interlaced iPhone 4

Hi,Something weird has happened to my 3 weeks old Iphone4. All og a sudden the screen has started flashing/blinking and if you look carefully you can see a lot of thin horizontal lines on the entire screen. Its almost like it is interlaced. The more you turn up the brightness of the screen the more you see the flashing. Is the phone broke and needs repair or does someone have an idea to what could have happened? I ofcoursed tried to restart the phone but it did not make any difference RegardsJacob Iphone 4 iOS 4

Red light on next to earpiece iPhone 3G

Okay, heres the story: My friend spilt water on me and a little bit on my phone. Immediately, I tried drying it off and the phone was working fine. Later that evening, when I would try to use my phone by pressing the Wake/Sleep button, the screen would come up, but would quickly start to fade away. The phone then turned off completely. I noticed that there was a very small red light on next to the earpiece. It looked like a C with a dot in the middle. I also noticed that the area around the earpiece was very hot. After this, I tried plugging my phone into the wall. I tried taking the SIM card for a bit, I put the phone in some rice, and I plugged it into my MacBook (but the phone wouldnt even show up in my iTunes). The light has turned off and the phone is no longer hot, but the phone still wont turn on.Could anyone shed some light on what to do now?

Has else had dropped call problems iPhone 4

Let me start by saying that it took me several years to finally buy my first Apple product. I refused to buy the hype and thought that people were insane for standing in lines for hours just to purchase Apple’s latest releases. After knowing people who had iPhones, and loved them for many years, and having spent plenty of time playing with them, I broke down and bought a 3GS. I was immediately hooked and never looked back. The phone was the most awesome piece of technology/gadgetry I had ever owned. I have since converted other nonbelievers to loyal iPhone enthusiasts. After my 3GS experience, and some serious problems with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer, I seriously started considering buying a Mac and utilizing Apple for all of my software and hardware needs. Unfortunately, that was until my 3GS was stolen and I decided to upgrade to the new iPhone4. Now I find myself questioning whether or not I want to still have anything to do with Apple at all.The initial problem I had with the phone was dropped call after dropped call. However, the larger, and much more upsetting issue, I now have is getting someone to acknowledge that the dropped calls are an issue. Besides the fact that I feel Apple has down-played the issue, I have grown even more upset with the attitude of the salespeople at my local Apple Store. After voicing my unhappiness in experiencing more dropped calls than successful ones, I am talked to as if it is all in my head. Instead of someone, anyone, saying that there is a problem with the phone, they say things like, “Try turning off your 3G before making calls, the bumper case should help the issue, maybe we need to replace your SIM card, and the network is experiencing increased call activity.” And the stories and excuses go on and on. I would have never expected Apple, who I truly believed only put the most superior products out on the market, to have released a phone with so many flaws. If it was Microsoft, however, I wouldn’t have been the least bit surprised. What bothers me even more are the people that are so blinded by the hype, that they swear it is not a big deal to turn off their 3G, or put a case on the phone, or to exchange the phone multiple times for other faulty iPhone4’s. Because I believe that everyone deserves second chances, I am not abandoning Apple just yet. I am returning my iPhone4 for another 3GS until Apple gets their act together. Until then, I am doing my absolute best to talk people out of purchasing the new iPhone4. While I have already successfully stopped several people from buying the new phones, the most amazing one was my very own father—a man that works in the Silicon Valley and has waited in Apple lines three times: once for the first generation iPhone, once for the 3GS, and once for two iPads he purchased (one for his wife and one for my sister). He is extremely loyal to Apple, as are most of his engineering, Bay Area buddies. However, he has friends that are just as disappointed with the new iPhone4 as I am, and says that he will not be purchasing one.Apple, please stop telling us that there is not a problem and that there are a series of simple things that can be done to help alleviate the problems we are imagining that we are having. If this issue is not handled properly—meaning a total recall of the faulty devices—I am afraid that you just might find your loyal customer base declining year after year. I had a horrible experience with Bank of America over ten years ago and have never gone back to them since. I am not alone in feeling this way about other things. It only takes one experience for people to swear off a product or company, never to return again. Can anyone else tell me if they feel the same way or if I am all alone? PC iOS 4

Battery Usage Calculation iPhone 4

Hi All,How are you doing?I just got my iPhone 4 few days ago,the battery usage drop 1% every 4-7minjust by doing very light surfing on safari or immobile, reading forums and textmax only 3 tabs.I got all those that will drain battery turn off, push, fetch, 3g, even brightness is on 25%any of those unnecessary is all off.Im not sure am I getting a good performance on the battery since I jump from iPhone 2G.I got around 10hr 35min of usage, 12hr plus of stand by on my first cycle.Checking all around the net Ive found many users with stand by dropping heavily on battery.Fortunately for me I do not have such problem whenever its on stand by the battery hardly move at all.Not knowing is this normal for iPhone 4,or maybe its just not up to my expectation. However, I do find that theres quite a lot of iPhone 4 replacement issue mostly reason cause by a bad battery.Any suggestion ? mbp 2.8Ghz(mid 2009) Mac OS X (10.6.3)

The laptop finds the iPhone.3. To pair the devices, I am asked to confirm a security code on both laptop and iPhone. Once confirmed on both devices, a message displays saying that theyre paired.4. On the iPhone, however, the little status indicator just keeps spinning; on the laptop, I get a message saying that it could not connect to the remote device. Is the iPhone only capable of connecting to a BT headset? iPhone wont turn on

I think I am fuked. My iPhone was constantly freezing today. I did a reset (holding down home and power button) I did that twice. I wanted to sync my phone into iTunes so that I could have all of my photos on my computer before my phone stopped working. Well no point. Wont sync. I try turning it on and syncing and all it does is show the apple logo then it shuts down. I am about to cry right now because all my photos from my trip and my text messages are gone. I cant even get my phone on to even try and reset it. I dont know what to do. Windows XP

Stuck in customer services returns iPhone 4

After waiting for the 3 week delivery for my iphone from the apple online store (singapore) it arrived with a damaged pixel.Customer services told me to send it back in via DHL and they would send out a replacement within 2 to 3 working days. One week later and still no replacement. To make matters worse, every time i call support it takes them about 20 minutes to actually find my case and figure out what is going on before they can even try to assist me.The latest i have heard is that i now have to wait another three weeks for a new one to be delivered for me!!!If i had known this i would have held onto the damaged unit until they sent me a replacement. Is this normal returns policy? Now i am over in Singapore for work reasons. My previous apple experience is with the UK store where you can usually just walk in and walk out with a replacement handset.I cannot believe how difference the customer experience is over here. Am i over-reacting in complaining about this? Should i just cancel my phone order - after all it will now turn out to be six weeks from initial order until i finally get to use one. iPhone 4 water damage

I lost my iPhone, and someone found it for me. Apparently, the guy found it on the street. When I got it back, I tried to turn it on, and the Apple logo would come on, say connect to iTunes, then turn back off. And it would do that over and over. I called AppleCare, and found out abt the sensor at the bottom inside the dock connection, and it was red meaning water damage.Im not sure if the bag of rice trick would work, since Ive already turned it on. But thought I would ask if anyone has experienced that yet. Does it matter that Ive been turning the phone on repeatedly? I dont really mind paying the $199 to fix it, and I have an appointment on Friday, but thought I would check anyway. MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.0.x)

Travelling abroad with iPhone

Hello. Going to Japan in the fall for 3 weeks and am looking into to travel packs through Rogers (Canada). They seem expensive! May or may not not bother - not sure yet. Just wondering, if you turn off data roaming and disable 3g, you should be able to use WiFi still...I tried it out in my house and it worked. I notice however, when i disable 3G and data roaming the Rogers logo STILL shows. im thinking because it must be working on Edge. Sooooo, if you turned off roaming and disabled 3G, used wifi, would you STILL get roaming charges as it appears you cant turn off edge networks. iMac Mac OS X (10.6.4) iPhone 3G

If I turn off Bluetooth on the iPhone - no problems.I have deleted Pairing - tried making a new Bluetooth connection - same thing. iPhone 3G under iOS4.0 wont charge properly

Ive been experiencing a lot of issues after updating my 3G to iOS4.0 and I fully agree with the other topics reporting about draining batteries, inappropriate responsiveness of the touchscreen due to lacking memory, etc.Steve, that update has ruined my great iPhone 3G and the current situation is unsatisfactory! The way Im feeling now is quite comparable to the time I changed from my Windows Mobile 5.0 phone to the iPhone 3G - but now the other way around - all the great touch responsiveness has gone and the device feels so lame! The most annoying issue however is, that the phone wont charge properly anymore. Let me describe:So after having freshly booted I plug in my 3G with the original charger (same situation when I connect via USB to my PC) and my Phone starts charging. The battery gets warm/hot, the percentage starts increasing and I see the icon displayed in the top bar. However after I open some applications, do my mail, write some SMS etc. I noticed that my phone isnt actually charing any more?! Well the charger-icon up right is still displayed, the battery is still getting warm/hot, but my battery percentage is already decreasing! This even goes so far that it runs out of battery and turns itself off while its connected to the power-supply!Rebooting the phone makes it charge again - however only until you start reopening apps.Well my solution until now: Plug in your phone in and turn it off - that at least makes the phone charge properly but is very annoying! iPhone 3G iOS 4

Problems with your iphone4 battery life READ

I will make this short and simple as I too have been experiencing battery problems with my iphone4 since I upgraded to 4.0.1Now here is what I THINK is going on, I believe there is a BUG in the wifi software in IOS that tends to drain the battery at a rate of 5% every 10 to 15 minutes or so if you are using the phone for surfing. And if you are not doing any internet surfing at all, it still drops the battery at a similar rate. Sadly what I have found out is that this doesnt stop even when the phone is on standby. Two hours of my phone just sitting there, I lose about 5% plus. So if I leave wifi on and go to bed, my phone will lose close to 25% of battery over night. However once wifi is OFF, the phone will only lose about 2 to 3% over night. Ill say thats a HUGE difference. What I also have noticed is that it doesnt matter if I have notifications & push ON or OFF, the battery still gets drained at the same rate as long as wifi is ON. Once I have realized the culprit, I went from getting a mere 4 to 5 hours of usage to 8 to 9 hours. So, I suggest that you all only turn wifi on when you NEED it. Once you no longer need it, just shut it off. This is what we have to do until apple fix this problem because it seems like having wifi ON is constantly working the wifi antenna even when the user is not using the wifi connection at all. Apple claims a whopping up to 10 hours of internet surfing over wifi. How can that be when my phone will lose over 30% of battery in 10 hours just on standby with wifi ON? By the way, all my tests were done with my phone on EDGE only. If you have done this and it worked for you, drop a line here cypher red pill

iPhone 4 Wi-Fi stops working after period of time.

The setup:Airport Extreme Base Station w/latest firmware update (7.4.2) connected to the internet via AT&T DSL.iPhone 4 32GBThe problem:When at home, the iPhone is able to see and connect to the AEBS without any issues. When I leave for work, and later come home, the iPhone is not able to see the network on the AEBS. Ive tried manually connecting to the network without success. Its as if my wireless network does not exist, as far as the iPhone is concerned. As a matter of fact, the phone does not see ANY nearby wireless networks (there are several I can normally see from my house).Turning Wi-Fi on/off does not fix the problem, nor does turning airplane mode on/off. The only fix for the problem is to turn the phone completely off and then back on again. After doing so, the phone is able to see and connect to the wireless network. This behavior is not consistent from day to day... Some days the phone is able to re-connect and others it is not. I have not been able to identify any particular action that Ive taken during my day that is consistent with the Wi-Fi not working.Notes:I have a few other devices on my home network including 2 notebooks, an AppleTV, and a Linksys WRT54G router that is used in bridge mode to connect my Satellite TV DVR to the internet (running Tomato firmware). The AEBS is setup in the b/g/a/n mode with the same SSID for the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.Any thoughts? Thanks,Chris MacBook Pro 13" / iPhone 4 Mac OS X (10.6.4)

iPhone 3G its not recognized by computer

Having a bit of trouble here, my iphone has been acting up, it would light up on its own without anyone touching it, then suddenly the screen just went really dark, but it could still used just in the right lighting, after a while of playing with the brightness (which was already set for high, and still it would be dark/dimmed) feature on the settings, I got it to work again, so I decided to restore it. It worked fine for a while, then it got dimmed again, so I decided to restore it again to its original factory settings, but this time I would not use any backups, when the system began restoring, the connect to itunes screen showed up, and a little window at the right bottom of the screen showed up with the following message: one the usb devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it and so the iphone was kicked out itunes and everytime I connect it again, it shows up the same message! Ive searched the net and found some tips: uninstall and reinstall itunes. or turn off computer and unplug and then turn it on and try again. or try to restore it on another computer (it worked at first it began downloading the iOS 4 but then the same message popped up and it kicked off the iphone from itunes). Sadly NOTHING worked! and now my iPhone is stuck in the connect to itunes screen and I am without a phone! If anyone could enlighten me, it would be much appreciated! Thanks! iPhone3G iOS 4

Not able to answer calls with installation of new IOS 4 iPhone 3G

I recently upgrade software on my iPhone 3G to the new version 4 software. iTunes says its software version 4.0.2. Im so frustrated. I think its the software because immediately after I installed it is when I started noticing the problem. The problem lies with answering the phone or making calls. Im sure everyone knows that when you make a call, you can pull the phone away from your face and you have 6 buttons, i.e. mute, contacts, keypad, speaker, etc. And of course the hang up button on the bottom. Well I just did some experiments with it so I can better explain and maybe someone has experienced this or can help to solve it.I make a phone call to someone and as long as I hold the phone in front of my face so I can visibly see it, the screen stays visible. I see the background image and the 6 buttons as well as the red hang up button. As soon as I put the phone up to my ear to talk, the screen backlight goes off and the screen is black (which is normal). The only problem is that when I pull the phone away from me ear anytime after the backlight has went off, the screen will NOT come back on. So I cant pull the phone away from my ear to turn on the speaker. I cant access my contacts to give someone a number. I cant even pull the phone away to be able to hang up the call. All I can do is just push the lock key on the top of the phone to end the call. It is really frustrating, especially when you need to use the keypad, like if you call your credit card company or something and you have to enter numbers. Its just very frustrating. Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any more flaws that others are finding with this new software on the 3G? Does anyone know a fix for this? iPhone 3G iOS 4 8GB, Model MB046LL; Serial 880080P3Y7H

Facetime I think iPhone 4

Ok i got the iphone 4 and wanted to try using facetime. Well when i wanted to check it was on it was off. So I turned it on but for the first few seconds it did not say facetime. I know it is not a huge deal but it is a bug that needs to be fixed cause it is bothersome and everytime i turn facetime on or off ( to save battery life ) it shows this. Oh and facetime will not be technically on ( working ) until it says facetime. Frustration with some parts of OS 4 UI iPhone 4

If this has been discussed before, my apologies. IMO, killing apps that you want to kill right away is a disaster in OS 4. Example I am using Motion X for navigation. I want to turn it off, because simply minimizing it continues the navigation. I literally have to make SEVEN gestures!!!!! First, close the app. Then double-click to bring up the open apps list. Then select the app (if its in the first row). Then hold my finger on the app. Then click on the kill X. Then click home again. SEVEN!!!!!! This is absolutely unacceptable from a company that prides itself on intuitive, simple IU. There are other UI features of OS4 that were not implemented well. What do others think? How about a simple kill app feature on every app? Or a swipe diagonal or something? Iphone 4 iOS 4

Ring and alerts dont sound iPhone 3G

Ive had this problem before, but I think it was something in the headphone jack that was the problem. Sometimes when I removed the headphones, the phone still thought the headphones were plugged in and behaved in that way. Ive had to plug the headphones in, and removed them again to rectify the situation. Now, I can play music through the speakers, but the slide to unlock, the turn-off screen, message alert, and even incoming calls dont make any sound, only music from the iPod does. I havent upgraded the OS for many months, and without any updates for such a long time, Im worried that this bug might be a hardware issue.Has anyone heard of this problem before? Ive tried turning it off and on again (re: The IT Crowd). How can it be fixed? iPhone 3G Other OS Ubuntu Linux

Cannot hear anything when making or recieving calls iPhone 4

A very strange issue has started happening randomly on my new Iphone 4.it seems that randomly when making or recieving a call i cannot hear the other person and they cant hear me, this is coupled with the speaker button being automatically enabled when making an outgoing call, i can depress the button but i still cannot hear anything, i also notice that i cant repress the button it will just turn the speaker off straight away. Also i cannot hear it ring when making a call.Normals sounds are ok and the phone rings fine when someone calls me, the problem is also present when paired up through bluetooth headset. The phone has full reception and the other and I have reset the phone to factory defaults multiple times and without restoring any settings or apps the problems was still present. The problem seems to come and go randomly, very strange.Anyone know of a fix?Cheers!Message was edited by: Spasiba PC Windows 7 IOS 4.01
