Difference in method of outgoing voice-PLEASE HELP iPhone

Im curious if anyone knows if there is different hardware used for outgoing voice when switching from normal talk mode to speakerphone. Im having a problem with my 3G iPhone (version 2.2 software) that could be software or hardware related but Im not sure. If you are interested in that problem the details are here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8759414&#8759414. Basically, outgoing voice is fine over speakerphone (on EDGE and 3G) and WiFi (using Truphone app) but garbled over EDGE and 3G in normal talk mode. Anyway, if anyone can explain the differences between the outgoing voice in each mode it could probably help me resolve the problem or at least narrow it down before swapping out the hardware for no reason.Thanks. Whats going on with my iPhone 3G

I installed the update to Pandora and now my auto brightness will not work at all, I charged my batter this afternoon and have used it very little (no calls incoming or outgoing and no data usage just a couple text messages). Now my battery is almost fully drained. I have restarted the phone by turning it on and off and I have also did a reset on the phone by holding the hold switch and home button. the auto brightness still fails to work. Any ideas? iPhone outgoing Voice Garbled on 3G and EDGE

About 3 days ago, I started to experience an issue with my 3G iPhone running 2.2 software. On incoming and outgoing calls I can hear the person on the other end but my voice is garbled and/or filled with a lot of static. This occurs on both the AT&T EDGE and 3G networks with and without the factory-provided headset. However, if I switch the speakerphone function on, both parties can hear each other normally. What I thought was particularly interesting is that when I use Truphone to make a VoIP call, everything functions normally as well. While I first thought that this could be some sort of hardware issue, the last test made it seem more along the lines of a software problem. I have powered on/off the phone, rebooted the phone, restored it to backup and restored to a new phone all with the same result. Has anyone else experienced this issue and been able to resolve it? I have an appointment at the Genius Bar on Friday but am hoping to be able to resolve this on my own.Thanks. HP Windows XP

WiFi possible fix iPhone 3G

I believe that after updating to 2.2 my WiFi at my office didnt work so well. the router would sporadically show up but drop the connection. Turns out that 3 out of 5 of us have this problem. I did discover that resetting my iphone made WiFi work good as new for us but only for a day it seems. Plus I had to redo all of my settings and icons which was a pain in the butt.Yesterday I tried just resetting the iphone network settings. So far, not only has that worked, but I dont have to redo all of my personal settings. Its the 2nd day and my WiFi is strong and stable at work.Hope this helps. 2.o Dual Core G5 Mac OS X (10.5.5) 2.5 gigs of ram

Accessory Connected message in iPod application iPhone 3G

Im using a 3G iPhone running version 2.2 that I connect to my car radio via a Dension IceLink connection. Apart from a few applications that I have installed, the iPhone is standard, not jailbroken.Until recently, although I received the usual this accessory is not made to work with the iPhone, would you like to use Airplane mode message whenever I connect the iPhone to the car radio, the connection worked fine and I was able to play songs through the car radio using the iPod interface on the iPhone. At first, I wasnt able to charge the iPhone. That problem is now solved since I bought the Scosche PassPort adaptor. However, a couple of days ago, a new problem occurred: I can no longer use the iPod controls when the iPhone is connected. On connecting the iPhone, I still receive the this accessory is not made to work with the iPhone, would you like to use Airplane mode message (I select NO). But when I select the iPod application, I just have a grayed out screen with the message Accessory Connected displayed.Disconnecting the iPhone enables the iPod interface again; reconnecting it brings up the message again.Note that the iPhone will play songs through the car radio even when this message is displayed -- its just the controls that I lose0Any ideas? iMac G5 17" 1.8mhz 1gb/500gb Mac OS X (10.5.6) iPhone 3G v2.2

Travel question. iPhone 3G

I live in Seattle and am traveling to London next week. Ill be using a calling card from my hotel-- so I dont want to be charged with roaming fees or phone charges or data fees. How do I set up my iPhone to be of use to me while Im there. Should I turn on Airplane mode the whole time and simply have access to contacts and addresses, are there other settings I should know about? Are there other programs that I can download which might be of use and not require a connection?Any help is appreciated. Dropping to GPRS during call iPhone 3G

While on a long call that started on 3G, I noticed my computer speakers suddenly started chattering at me, so I moved the phone and continued the call.At the end of the call the phone had the blue dot for GPRS where the 3G dot should have been, which means that sometime during the call the phone fell off 3G back to Edge (perhaps) and then to GPRS. I was connected by wifi as well, so I didnt really NEED a 3G connection for data, but I was surprised to see it fall all the way back to GPRS.All of this was seamless to me (other than the chatter, so the iPhone handoff issues from the old 2.0 days are clearly fixed and handoff is pretty seamless.the question I have, is do other people see this fall back all the way to GPRS during calls? Is it common?Message was edited by: icebike .

Nothing happens when iPhone plugged in

Nothing happens when my 2G iPhone is plugged in, either to the charger or the USB connection on my Mac Pro. Ive changed wires,; same problem. Ive tested other devices in the USB ports; they work. When I plug the iPhone into the USB connection, nothing happens, nothing. It doesnt turn on, sync, turn off if on, no noise, nothing. the same symptoms when I plug the iPhone into the charger that uses a separate wire plugged into the charger in a different location. Ive noticed this getting worse till now when absolutely nothing happens when plugged in. Previously, repeatedly plugging and unplugging resulted in both a charging and sync connection, depending on where plugged. Is this a phone hardware issue or am I doing something wrong? Monster iPod car charger with an 3G iPhone

I found a lot of references to car charges & the iPhone, but nothing specifically on the older Monster charger. Mine has the dock connection for an iPod and a mini audio input. I bought it when the 4G iPods were the current model. It works with my 4G & video iPods, but I would like to know if anyone has used it with the 3G iPhone? G3 with 2.2 update loosing Battery Life Fast iPhone

I am new to the iphone - just received my first one mid December and unfortunately my second just yesterday due to this reason that I AM STILL HAVING.Before the update on my first phone - I had great battery life - full day running just a few applications like twitteriffic, etc. I also have Exchange with Kerio Service set to push. Still - no issues with the battery.I then did the update to 2.2 and noticed the back getting warmer and the battery dropping in just just hours - 4 max if lucky. No changes to the settings at all. I even tried a reset and then a restore and still same issue.Apple then issued me a new phone due to this and oddly - same issues are happening. My question is - is the push to the server causing this and should I have fetch setup instead? I am not sure how this works and which to set to push if i do. Would I turn the Push option off but under the advance tab where it list my email account - should I set that option to Push?I am below a half a battery now and its only be just over 2 hours. ever since 2.2 upgrade unresolved issues iPhone 3G

Though Ive visited the genius bar, I still have problems with the below issues...1.) My iphone 6 digit passcode (required for my exchange account) corrupts several times each day locking me out and forcing me to restart my phone, after which the code works correctly. YES Ive done multiple restores to no avail. NO its not jail broken, but thanks for your first two very clever guesses.2.) It periodically loses all reception and sits there searching for a minute or two... annoying!3.) When I receive e-mails with pictures in the message body, for example, a receipt from my Marriott hotel stay, half of the page is cut off on the right with NO ability to scroll over and see it. Also, I want a to do list that picks up from my exchange server that I dont have to download as an app. Or better yet a to do list that syncs with icalendar... weird that it doesnt do this! Why no MMS???? While e-mail is superior FOR THOSE WHO HAVE IT, MMS is NOT obsolete yet Steve Jobs, you are too early considering so many people have regular cell phones without e-mail access. Why is there no copy/paste functionality? especially in texting... Wi-Fi Auto-Switch Issue iPhone

Hi folks,I recently purchased an iPhone 3G (8 gb) and I was told that if I am using wi-fi, and I stroll outside of the wi-fi network or Im disconnected, the iPhone automatically switches to data browsing. This creates an issue for me because I am still on a regular plan. I am not quite financially ready to make the leap to get a data plan just yet, so I was wondering:1) Can I somehow switch off wireless all the time so that I dont automatically connect to wi-fi at all?2) If I do use wi-fi, and I dont want it to switch to any other connection, can I bypass the settings somehow so that I dont have to worry about incurring extra charges? Finally, I just want to know if the little 3G status indicator at the top-left of my iPhone means Im connected regularly to the phone network or if Im somehow accumulating charges that I am not aware of.Thanks in advance. Using an iPhone to connect MacBook Pro Laptop to internet 3G

Anyone heard of an application iphone or MacBook Pro based that will allow me to use the phone as a 3G bridge to the internet. Crashing apps and safari iPhone 3G

I think I may have found a breakthrough (maybe not on everyone elses part becase there may be some other discussion similar to this, but on my part I have) Here are some things Im noticing about crashes of apps on my iPhone 3G:1. Its usually a larger app2. It is usually one that is graphics heavy and text light3. It ALWAYS happens when another app is doing something in the background (ie. iPod playing, mail pushing from server, text message recieved, etc.)4. Crashes are Most common with social networking apps (myspace mobile, facebook)Here are some things Im noticing about safari carshes:1. Picture heavy site such as a failblog.org, etc.2. Same as #3 for apps. Anyone care to comment on or answer why this is happening? I get the graphics heavy and picture heavy stuff but not the social network apps, and I understand why the mail push or iPod could do it, but why hasnt apple fixed it yet? HP Windows XP

iPhone 3G bluetooth carkit connectivity problems

Ive seen several bluetooth problem threads on here but I believe Im having different issues. Before the iPhone I had Sony, Nokia and HTC phones all connect easily and beautifully with the same device.Running iPhone 3G v2.2Motorola HF850 Bluetooth Car kitMazda3 OEM audio connector (Music, control and charging)Everytime the iPhone appears to be connected properly to the carkit with the bluetooth icon lit up on the iphone top left and lights and an audible tone on the carkit indicating connection. I always answer the phone by pushing the answer button on the carkit not the iphone:1/4 of the time - Works fine. Music stops on stereo and I can hear the other party and they can hear me fine.1/4 of the time - I can hear the other party fine but they cant hear me.1/4 of the time - It decides to use the mic and speaker on the iPhone instead of the carkit as if you were using it normally.1/4 of the time - Music pauses on car stereo but once I answer the call it starts playing through the motorolas speaker hidden in dash. I cant hear what the other party is saying on the phone due to music and I cant stop it either as you cant play around with the ipod functions of the phone while it is connected to a car stereo. Also, I didnt think you could listen to music on the iphone via bluetooth anyway? Another problem is there is a long pause (10sec) from the time you press the answer button to the time you can speak with the other party. There was a smaller but still noticeable pause with my old Sony Ericsson K800i of a few seconds but it was manageable. Ive unpaired and repaired the phone and kit several times with no change.Ive restored the iPhone via iTunes several times with no change.I thought it may be a problem with the OEM audio car kit but even if I disconnect (unplug) the iPhone from the kit so it is only connected to the bluetooth phone carkit it still has the same issues. At this point Im am really frustrated and annoyed about this and its got to the stage where I dont trust the bluetooth connection at all and will soon stop using the phone in the car at all. This really isnt an option for me.Any help appreciated. 15 1.5Ghz Powerbook Mac OS X (10.5.6) iPhone 3G v2.2 firmware

I have a few IPhones and ITouchs trying to connect to a windows domain that ends in .local and nothing works, I’ve looked it up and found http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2385?viewlocale=en_US where it seems like if you add “local” into the “search domain” it should work. YouTube Downloading Slow Over Wifi iPhone

Ive been having issues with youTube videos downloading slow on my 2G iPhone 2.2 when connected to my wireless G router ( a Netgear WGR614 ). My iBook G4 running 10.4.11 connects wirelessly to the same G router. When I go to the same youTube video it streams faster than the playback. the iPhone just wont stream fast tonight.Ive shut the phone down, quit and reentered youTube several times and turned off and on the Wifi connection.Ive noticed a few videos will stream fast enough where the video starts within a few seconds while others will hardly stream or it will start then stop halfway into the 3 or 4 minute video.Thanks. iMac 20" 2.4 Mac OS X (10.5.4) 320g, 4gig ram

GPS use internet data connection iPhone 3G

Hi everyone,Ill be using a German iPhone while traveling all over the world. the data connection is free within Germany (in other words, flat-rate internet) but quite expensive out of the country, 49 euro cents per 50kb block when Im in the US, for example... I was hoping to use the GPS/map function a lot, but Im afraid this will be expensive... Does the GPS/map function actually use the internet connection, for which Ill be charged per 50kb block? Or is GPS a separate kind of connection? I was hoping to just casually surf the web while traveling on trains across the globe, but I guess that would be a very expensive pastime...Thanks!Alexandra MacBook Pro 15" 2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.5.2)

iPhone Pioneer DEH-P700BT Issue

I recently bought a Pioneer stereo for my car (DEH-P700BT) which just came out in March. It has a built-in USB port for direct connection to iPod/iPhone & Bluetooth capability. When I hook up my iPhone everything works perfectly, except for when I receive an incoming call while listening to iPhone through the stereo. the phone will ring and I can carry on my conversation via Bluetooth, but when the call ends my stereo will not automatically begin to play my iPhone music again. This forces me to have to unplug my iPhone and Pause/Play until I hear sound coming out of iPhones speaker. Then I can plug it back in and it will work again.Again, this only happens for incoming calls. When I make an outgoing call while listening to my iPhone through the head unit and end the conversation it switches automatically back to my iPhone music. Does anyone know if there is some kind of compatibility problem with iPhones direct connection and Bluetooth being used simultaneously? 3G Phone Bars and wifi vs 3G on or off iPhone

I work at a university that has wifi and needs VPN to be on in order to use Exchange e-mail etc. With wifi and VPN on, I only have 1/2 a bar on the phone and have to go out of the building to use the phone. I serendipitously found that if I turn wifi off and 3G on, I now have 5 phone bars and perfect phone reception. Further, though 3G is a bit slower than the institutional wifi, I can connect to the Exchange server and the internet outside the university without having to turn on vpn - which usually quits every 5 min and has to be turned on. Maybe others have found this, but after a year of non-functional 3G phone in my office, this minor discovery makes the iPhone the useful gadget tht I had thought I had! iMac duo Mac OS X (10.5.5) Extreme wifi at home

Update 2.2 and 3G connection problems iPhone

Hi All,Was wondering if anyone else is having the same problems and if so how they fixed them. Please note that i live in Canada and have the Iphone 3G on Rogers network...Before the 2.2 upgrade everything was great. Since the 2.2 upgrade my 3G connection is flakey at best. Sometimes web browser dosent connect, sometimes i cant retrieve email or connect to the app store. WiFi works great, GPS works great (except that it cant download map so sometimes all i get is a blue dot on a blank screen). Everything but the 3G connection. When i switch it over to Edge it works great and if i switch back to 3G it works for a little while (2-3 minuites) and then it just seems to stall. Ive resorted to turning phone off and on again if i need 3G (or turning 3G off and back on) which is a pain! Its also totally random so sometimes it will work for a little longer and sometimes it just wont work no matter what unless i hard reset the device...Anyone seen this and have any idea how to fix it??ThanksSteven

2.2 update wont ring get texts or VM-Correction iPhone 3G

I have pinpointed the problem. the problem is the WIFI and sleep mode. If you are connected to a WIFI hotspot and have 3G on you will not get calls or texts in sleep mode. Here are the steps to reproduce the problem.1) Turn off WIFI2) Put phone in sleep mode.3) Call your phone, it works fine.4) Turn On WIFI but do not use any app that will use the WIFI.5) Put phone in sleep mode right away.6) Call your phone, again it works fine.7) Use Safari or any app that will access the WIFI connection.8) Put phone in sleep mode.9) Call your phone, this time it wont ring. You wont get texts or VM notifications either. You have one of 3 choices to get around this problem.1) Never let you phone go into sleep mode. Yeah right.2) Turn off WIFI.3) Turn off 3G.All 3 of these choices are unacceptable but it may help you cope till the problem is fixed.I know this is not a viable solution but maybe it will help the dopes at Apple get their stuff together. Every update they put has effected me in a negative way. 1st time I tried to update it bricked my phone and I had to fight tooth and nail for them to give me a new one. This is my buisness phone and I cant afford to miss calls and texts or VM. I had to pay $599(already had contract) for this P.O.S. You got me once Steve but never again. Windows Vista

Ive been having the same problem with my iphone on and off for a couple of months now.For some reason it thinks the headphones are plugged in, this means that I cannot listen to music using the speakers, I cant make any phone calls because if I make an outgoing call, I cant hear it ring nor the person speaking, because it thinks I have the headphones plugged in with the mic.the phone doesnt ring out loud when I have an incoming call, so I miss a lot of calls..If I try to change the volume, it has headphones in brackets, or something similar, which is how I know it thinks I have them plugged in.At first, I thought this was a problem with my headphones, because they were faulty, but Ive had them replaced, and at the same time, the lady I spoke to from apple told me this problem can be overcome by re-installing itunes, updating the iphone software version and resetting the iphone (home button and off button until the apple logo appears) Well, I did this and its still happening..Can someone please tell me what Im supposed to do, because my warranty runs out in less than a month and Ive already tried everything suggested, and its still happening. Thanks, Lou iphone Windows XP

Bluetooth and Sat Navs ie TomTom iPhone 3G

Morning,Having succumbed to iPhone fever I was a little shocked that bluetooth is limited to headsets. I subscribe to TomToms traffic service (which is chargeable yearly) and it requires a bluetooth connection to use my old phone for traffic updates, however now I cannot use because I cannot connect my TomTom to the iPhone. Will Apple be looking at updating Bluetooth to allow connections to Sat Navs or is there another way I can connect my iPhone to TomTom.tiaDarren custom built Athlon 64 Windows XP Pro iPhone newbie

3G suddenly quits on me iPhone

So I turn on my 3g mainly on the weekends, and during the week when I want to download apps and browse the internet. Just recently Ive been having a connection issue, and the 3G will suddenly turn off. This being that the icon in the left hand corner doesnt appear, and the E does. When I go in to my settings menu, the 3G is still activated. What is going on with my phone?Ive tried the airplane mode method, turning that on for 30 seconds and turning it off again. That seemed to do the trick, but now when I try that method, it will turn the 3G on, and then the 3G will disappear. Does anyone know what I can do to keep my 3G working when I have it turned on? Thanks. Dell Windows XP

MMS viewmymessage.com iPhone

I realize that the iPhone has no MMS support, but everyone keeps talking about viewmymessage.com I even have a lot of friends with iPhones that get texts from viewmymessage.comThe problem is I have had my iPhone 1st gen for a long time, and I have NEVER received a viewmymessage.com text even though friends have sent MMS to my #. the same friend has sent messages successfully to other iPhone users. AT&T is clueless. Anyone have any idea on what might be going on here?My friend has also tried putting my regular email address into the MMS to: field, but I still dont get it. Its quite bothersome.Message was edited by: dmfsantacruz MacPro 8-Core Mac OS X (10.5.4) OSX server 10.5, Final Cut Serve

How to Block Phone Number-Answered iPhone

Ive been doing some research on this, and there are several answered threads in which people are claiming that it is impossible to block numbers with AT&T. Learn to research, or maybe dont talk about things you havent any idea about. After maybe 5 minutes of searching I found this. It may be aimed at overprotective parents, but it offers the ability to block numbers from calling and texting you.AT&T Smart Limits for Wireless is a new online service that enables you to provide your children with the freedom and security of wireless service while setting sensible boundaries for its use. An easy online setup allows you to determine specifically how and when your child can use the phone. You can set limits for:Number of text and instant messagesDollar amount for downloadable purchases (ringtones, games and more)Times of day the phone can be used for messaging, browsing and outbound callingWho the phone can call or text (incoming and outgoing) by blocking and allowing certain numbersAccess to content inappropriate for childrenPlease Note: This product cannot currently be used to set specific monthly limits for minutes. All incoming calls are allowed at all times except from numbers you designate as “Blocked Numbers”.As your child approaches the text and download limits, he/she will receive an advance warning. Once a limit is reached, there will be a notification the action is restricted and the service will be stopped until the next billing cycle begins.Calls and text messages to and from phone numbers you designate as “Allowed Numbers” and calls to 911 will continue to be permitted regardless of the limits you set.For further information, please feel free to visit www.att.com/smartlimitsforwireless MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

iPhone Call Failed

All of the sudden today, I can not make outgoing phone calls on my iPhone. Incoming calls work fine, synching is fine, all applications work fine. My wifes iPhone works fine, so the cell towers are working. No matter what person I try to call, the call fails. I have reseated the SIM card and rebooted the phone several times. I am out of ideas.Help. MacBook (white 2GHz) Mac OS X (10.5.4) Bootcamp with XP Pro
