Synching data from iPhone 2g to iPhone 3g

I am attempting to transfer my friends data (contacts, music, texts, pictures, etc.) from an old iPhone 2g to an iPhone 3g on her laptop. The 3g had its data cleared and OS 3.1.3 reinstalled on my computer. I didnt sync anything onto the 3g.On her laptop, I synched the iPhone 2g to iTunes and when I connect the 3g, since the phone was installed with my computer, I was never prompted to select a backup. There is an option to Sync but am afraid of what will happen if I press it.Two questions, if I Sync the 3g, what will happen (will the data from the 2g iPhone transfer to the 3g/will the blank 3g overwrite the old iphone 2g data)? What would be the recommended way to transfer the data from the 2g to the 3g? iPhone 3g iOS 4

Activate old 3G-unable to recognize S card iPhone

I have a 3G with a cracked screen that will not recognize a SIM card. My kids use it as an ipod and to take pictures. I stupidly upgraded to ios 4.0.1, not realizing I needed a SIM to activate. Is there any way to activate without a SIM- it is currently stuck on the connect to itunes screen. Would a genius appointment be of any use.Thanks for any help. Mac OS 9.1.x

Instant message--email link. iPhone

A friend recently sent me an email link using messages, on my iphone 4, so I can send pictures using regular mail using my iPhone 4. When I clicked on the blue hyperlink containg the email address within messages, it opened up mail which it is supposed to do so I might be able to send a text or pictures. What the problem is no keyboard appeared so I can compose a message or attach a file. Can anyone offer a fix or might be having the same problem?? IPhone 4 iOS 4 VM WARE FUSION

Latest upgrade has many faults iPhone 3G

Lost all my pictures, but still there I found, just a big black screen but when I press a spot with my finger the pics appear!!Signal strength has become weaker as it appears in pictogram at top of phone!!Cant sync with win 7, not sure if this ios a new problem or just mine, as I just puchased a new laptop and operating system. Group messages containing only text sending as pictures to some contacts. iPhone

When I send messages (with no pictures) to multiple contacts some of them receive the message as a picture, but once they open it they see the text that I sent. This happened originally on my iPhone 3G when I upgraded to 4.0 and is now happening on my iPhone 4 with 4.0 and 4.0.1. This only happens when mms is enabled, and when I turn it off the message is received as plain text. At first this seemed to be mainly related to people with non-smartphones, but it seems its also affecting my other contacts with smartphones. iPhone 4 iOS 4

Does anyone else notice that when you click to start typing a text message the cursor is like cutoff at the bottom before you type? Then when you start typing it makes the texting box a little bigger (like 2 lines instead of 1)? Just wondering if this is normal or not. iPhone 4 32GB iOS 4

iPhone 3G screwed up after last OS4 update

After updating my 3G to version 4.0.1 besides it continuing to be slow since version 4 it now shows some of my pictures as black. I can click on the picture and view it but in the Photo Library the pictures are black. Whats up with that? MacBook Mac OS X (10.6.4)

3Gs photos will not sync iPhone

I have an iPhone 3Gs, and I recently had a Dell laptop. Whenever I would plug in my phone, it would give me the option to save all the photos I have taken on my phone, to my laptop. I did it overtime. But my Dell crashed about a month ago, and I got a MacBook Pro. When I switched computers, I didnt carry my photos over because I thought my phone would do it the next time I synced it. It is not working though, whenever I plug my phone in, it doesnt ask me if I want to save my photos to my Mac. I would like to get all the pictures off my phone, any ideas? Problem with Photos in Camera Roll after 4.0.1 iPhone 3G

Hello,I have a 16GB iPhone 3G.I updated to iOS4.0 the day it came out, and other than the slowness that everyone else was reporting, I didnt have any other issues.When I updated to 4.0.1, everything seems a touch better performance wise, but I found a problem with my camera roll.First, when I opened the Photos App, there was no thumbnail for Camera Roll (all others were ok).I opened the camera roll, and the last 50 or so pics that I had taken, were all showing as one big Black blob (not individual black thumbnails, they were all joined)If I scrolled up to older pictures, the older ones were fine.I took a new picture to test it, and that one looks fine.So now I can see all my OLD pictures, and any NEW pictures I take, but those same 50 pictures were still showing as one big BLACK blob.I can still access the pictures if I touch them, and I can flip through them without any problems. I can also copy these photos from my phone to my PC, so the pictures themselves seem to be fine.And after copying them to my PC, what I noticed by examining the timestamps, was that the problematic pictures were all taken after I updated to iOS 4.0. It seems that all pictures from 3.1.3 or earlier are showing fine, and now all pictures taken with 4.0.1 are showing fine as well. So only pictures taken with 4.0 seem to be affected.Is there anything I can do to fix this?(Just for the record, my phone is not and has never been jailbroken.) 3G Windows 7

I came to my iPhone from the BB curve. LOVED my old phone, love my new one. What I dont like about the iPhone that I did like about the Curve is the texing, specifically the fact that I cant see when all texts arrived and were sent. Anyone have any solutions for this? I am having a problem sending emoji emoticons in text messages; it just shows up like this “yyy’y”.I am texting other iphone users, we are all on OS4, but I had this problem bephore the update as well, I have tried 3 different people, I have downloaded a few different emoji aps, I have powered my phone on and off, the keyboard is enabled. Ios4 is terrible for my 3GS. I can get or make a call and the phone will just all of a sudden drop the call and you can hear it take a picture???? I have had the phone drop several calls this way and I just have to call the people back or wait for them to call back if it was a business number and I did not know who called. I see all these people saying the reception and dropping calls and such is an Iphone 4 issue, but I do not believe this to be true, I know that my same iphone 3GS with os 3.1.3 did not drop calls like this and take pictures when it dropped the calls. My battery life, also, is much worse with ios4 dell laptop Windows XP Pro

I upgraded my wifes iPhone 3G to iOS4 and now she is telling me that when she text messages, the input of the keys gets stuck, seems to buffer than spits out the entire text message. She is wanting me to fix it and I cant figure out how do downgrade the iOS4 off the 3G phone? texting was fine before the update???It seems to me like the 3G processor is too slow for the iOS4 update, because my 3GS seems to not experience the same problem during texting. OS4 has made all my pictures blurry iPhone 3G

Well there isnt much to it just after i installed OS4 to my 16gb Iphone 3g all my pictures in my photos are all blurry, over 2000+ pictures and now every single one is blurry its just like when you change to a different image and it takes a second or two to load but no they are all blurry and nothing changes once you leave it for a while so im removing all the photos and gunna try and see if they are still okay in the photo cashe and install em again.a fix would be great

Hi,Sigh, I have a really annoying problem with the iPhone. I just recently upgraded to the iPhone 4 and love it, love it, love it... Except when Im texting. The ONLY problem Im having just started recently and I dont know how to fix it. Its too hard to Google this, too. Everytime I type the word me, it types this: me So, lets say I want to say Let me have that, the iPhone will type this Let me have that. I dont know how to un-autocorrect this! Lost Everything iPhone 3G

I upgraded to the current versiion of iTunes yesterday then upgraded my iPhone to run with OS 4.0 BUT it seems to have totally wiped my phone memory. Lost all the Apps, contacts, photos and music.When it then finished syncing I ended up with old contacts, old apps and just pics that were on the computer but none of the pics that were on the Camera Roll.Is there any way to recover at least the pictures that were on the Camera Roll before the whole OS 4.0 installation?Any ideas/solutions greatly appreciated. Contact links dead in 3G with IOS4 iPhone

After upgrading and restoring my deleted contacts I have found that I can no longer use the links from my contact list.For example I cannot call them by pressing the numbers listed for each contact , I cannot open texting by pressing the text link. They all darken as I press them and then do nothing. Text messaging will even ask me which contact number to use if my contact has more than one and will immediately do nothing after I pick one.I have tried creating new contacts to see if the issue came from my outlook contact list or maybe from mobileme but the new contacts have the same issue. Using apps that link to my contacts (one touch dial apps) have the same problem with my contact list, they simply open and then close again, calling nothing. However I can dial from my favorites and I can pull up my contacts number when using the text message program directly.Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it? I did not have it before the upgrade. I must be getting lazy in my old age because having to press 3-4 keys to call my wife instead of one is driving me crazy. 3G iOS 4

Has anyone have a problem with their text messages? There are times when Im texting or open the app the number or the name of the person dont appear on top and wont let me go back to my other text messages. Its frustrating!! If I want to text someone I have to go to my contact list and select the persons name and select text message. Missing SMS Information iPhone

I have the new iPhone 4 and everything is fine apart from an intermittent texting/MSMS issue.Regulary when I receive a text message I have an issue. When I open it the top blue bar is blank, it does not display the name of the sender or anything else and I am unable to go back to the main SMS page which lists all of the texts from different people. The only way for me to get out is to wait for a text from a different person. Restarting the phone or selecting add to contact etc makes no difference. iPhone4 and Ubuntu Bug

Hello,I just discovered a bug when you use the iPhone4 in Ubuntu. Does anyone knows if apple has a bug tracking system were I could report it?Anyhow, the bug goes like this:If you connect your iPhone4 to a computer running Ubuntu to access the camera folder (DCIM) and you delete the picture from Ubuntu; the Iphone4 will not rotate any picture nor video remaining in the phone. You need to perform a soft reset in order to allow the phone to rotate pictures again. Looks like it only affect Camera Roll pictures since you can rotate websites, etc...I decided to test this under Windows and after I deleted some pictures from the very same folder, the iPhone works fine, meaning, it can rotate pictures and videos without any problem from the Camera Roll folder.Can anyone else confirm this by trying to replicate this issue?Regards,C4RLOCO iPhone4 iOS 4

i just upgraded my iphone 3GS to the new 4.0 software and now in my text message screen the camera icon isnt in the toolbar to send pictures/videos and my internet doesnt work whatsoever. Successful update on 3G--heres what I did iPhone

I read a lot of threads here before deciding to take the plunge to update my 3G to OS4. I was able to update successfully thanks to the things I learned here, so I thought my experience might be helpful to someone else. Heres what I did:1. Installed the newest version of itunes.2. When itunes asked me to download/install OS4, I chose download only. 3. While it was downloading, I asked it to transfer purchases from my phone to itunes. I copied all pictures to my computer and copied the itunes music folder to an external hard drive. And this became important later---in the itunes folder, theres a folder called Mobile Applications. I copied this to my desktop. 4. I synced my phone so there would be a new backup. 5. After some trial and error with the update button, I decided to go the restore route. I clicked on restore while holding down Shift, and it opened a folder for me to find the file I wanted to use. Vista puts the iphone update file in computer name/appdata/roaming/apple computer/itunes/iphone software updates. I clicked on the OS4 update.6. It restored the phone as a new phone, which was pretty fast. Then it asked me if I wanted to sync using a previous backup, so I selected the backup I had done right before restoring. It put all my data and settings back during this process (about 20-30 minutes) but did not return my apps or music. 7. Once it finished restoring from the backup, I synced again and it put some of my apps and all of my music back on. A few of the apps wouldnt sync, so I went back into the Apps part of itunes (not the one within the phone, but in the itunes library) and saw that there were exclamation marks next to some of the apps. When I clicked on one, it asked me if I wanted to find the file. I found the copies Id put on the desktop and clicked it, and it asked me if I wanted to do the same thing for all the apps whose files were missing. It restored all of them that way, and I was able to sync again and put them on the phone. Then I rebooted the phone, and that was that. All said and done, it took <3 hours. When Id tried going the update route a week or so earlier, after three hours the backing up progress bar had moved only microscopically. So this was, by far, preferable. My phone is fast--no problems with lagging or slowness that Ive noticed. I love the folders--I went from 7 pages of apps to three. The consolidated email is handy, and the ipod app now lets you edit playlists from within the phone. My only complaint is battery performance--I hadnt been impressed with the 3G battery to begin with, and now I think its been reduced even further. But I didnt have any of the problems Id been reading about here for the last few weeks. I think Apple should do a better job of giving update instructions (not just click update now) for older phones, rather than leaving it to user trial and error. iPhone wont restore to last back up after updating to iOS4 3G

I updated my iPhone 3G to the new iOS4. It told me I should back up my phone before starting the update. So I did...twice. The update went fine. It only took an hour which I expected. When it was finished I went to go look at my phone and everything was gone. No music, no apps, no contacts. All I had were my pictures(which I was happy about because I take so many of them). But I didnt know what to do. Stupid me thought if I hit the restore button it would go back. WRONG. Then the other day a friend of my told me that if you right click the iPhone bar and hit restore from back up it should work. So I tried that, but it wouldnt restore the last back up I had saved. It would go for like a few seconds and then say iTunes can not restore iPhone because an error has occurred and then the phone would restart. I tried restarting my computer and it says the same thing. I was able to get it to restore to a back up from May, which is okay because I at least got my contacts back. But I lost most of my pictures and my apps are still gone. Plus not to mention the months gap of texts and appointments I put in my calendar. Did anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? I dont think I would have updated my phone if I knew it was going to be such a pain. So please, if anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it!

Cant stream iTunes in background while using other apps since upgradng iPhone 3G

Before the upgrade to iOS4 I was able to listen to streaming podcasts in iTunes in the background while texting, FBing, etc. at the same time. Now since the upgrade I cannot. The iTunes stream stops as soon as I go to the Home screen. Did I actually lose functinality due to the upgrade? If so can I revert back to the previous OS? I dont really care about Folders. iPhone 3G iOS 4

Since i have made the switch to iOS 4 i have noticed a lot of problems when it comes to texting. The biggest problem that i have noticed is that the virtual keyboard seems to be very inaccurate compared to what it was before in iOS 3. I have had to slow way down when texting because the keyboard thinks that i am hitting letters other than the ones that i am trying too. The most common occurance of this is when i try to double tap the space bar in order to put a period and then create a space. My iphone always interprets that as i am trying to put a space and then press n. One of the things that i loved about the iphone was how accurate the keyboard was but whatever change has been made is quite irritating. Macbook Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Problem after problem with iOS4. first, the camera takes forever to load and sometimes just doesnt take pictures. And my iPhone is just slow in general, even after I restored it on iTunes. So I just upgraded from a 1st gen iPhone to a 4. Loving it so far. But I havent been able to send any pictures taken with the phone via text message (MMS). What happened to video and picture messaging iPhone

OK I regret my long awaited update to OS 4.0 on my 3G phone. It has made my slightly lithargic 3G (when compared to 3GS) super slow. The following is the laundry list of complains after updating software:1. Super Slow on the web, even on WIFI2. Super slow phone memory functions, such as loading the contacts, after I press a contact I kid you not it takes about 5 to 7 seconds before the contact info loads.3. Calls dropped.4. GPS feature is off by a couple of miles now. I actually got lost using it, so turned it off and just used good old common sense.5. texting, through apps or through ATT *****!!!!I cannot go on without starting to use some bad language, I am frustrated and annoyed with apple right now. The phone was working fine, like I mentioned slightly slower but far better than what it is right now. I compared it to my wifes 3Gs before the upgrade, it was ok, slower but as expected. But now, oh my god, I feel like tossing it in the trash can. And Apple is super slow, there is no action. Is this just a way so that we HAVE to upgrade to the newer phone????? I have decided to start the clock from July 3, if no action is found through Apple, then this phone and ATT and Apple can keep there phone gladly. There is no reason for the upgrade so if you are one who is smarter than me and researching before the upgrade DONT DO IT, IT ***** and for the 3G it does not make any sense, there are apps that will help you do most of the stuff that OS4.0 is providing. In a month I may be tossing the iPhone and going towards droid.Has anyone successfully loaded the old Operating system. My attempt reverted all settings back to OS4.0 when I tried, so 4.0 is apparently default factory OS. i Phone 3G iOS 4
