iphone 5 speakers and through headphones quiet

Ive just updated to IOS 6.1.4 not sure if this is the cause but today when playing music through speakers and my headphones its really quiet. any way to fix this? and yes ive checked all volume levels. i also have a tone for new mail and nomatter if i put it one silent or no tone or change the tone it still makes this one tone. doing my head in. please help. thanks

I have been using my iPhone 5's app Notes to dictate my inventory and send it to my computer rather than typing in everything... until today. The microphone icon in Notes is gray.  I checked Messages and Mail to find that the microphone is operable within those apps.  Where do I go from here?

Hey guys, I can play music and hear it just fine, with or without headphones. When I press on the keypad I can hear the noise it makes, I can hear calls with my headphones plugged in, or when the speaker option is on, however, unless this happens, I can't hear the person I am on the phone with. I've tried restarting, resetting, earasing all content, and restoring it with iTunes and that didn't work. I've tried cleaning the ports with a toothbrush, or pressing gently on the microphone and that didn't work.I've tried calling with the headphone on, and taking them off in the middle of the call and that didn't work either. I am currently outside of the US so I can't go to an Apple store, so I am wondering if any of you guys have been succesful at solving this problem. microphone doesn't work while recording video iPhone 5

Hi everyone. I have an iPhone 5, and yesterday while trying to make a Vine while using the front-facing/FaceTime camera, I discovered that it didn't pick up any sound. However if I switch to the main camera (the HD one on the back), audio picks up and can be heard. This is a problem when I'm recording regular video too. microphone works with the back camera, doesn't work with the front. Is there any way to fix this?  Thanks!

I have never dropped my iphone and it's not water damaged. Today all of a sudden the microphone had stopped working on my calls, voice memos and Siri. It still works on speaker phone and when I put my headphones in! I really need help I don't want to have to buy a new one I only have it 6 months!!

I am pretty frustrated i bought a Iphone 4 from a friend for $50.00 USD. I'm very unhappy to say i wish i would of spent that $50.00 USD on a Htc or Galaxy i would like to have a disscussion or for apple to see that all apple devices should have speak to text or talk to text ( microphone on imessage or the default green message app ) so that people can be hands free when they are texting . I would like to see an update in there new formal update coming up 6.1.4 to have that in it then i will change my mind on apple and there iphones i love my iphone and its nice to have but id love to see that in your future Updates .(6.1.4) Please and Thank you ! iPhone 5 mic not working

The microphone receiver is not working on my iPhone 5.  I cannot be heard on the other line unless I put the phone on speaker.  I have cleaned the headphone port with compressed air and checked the moisture indicator and all is good.  I have also restored as new phone and still the problem exists.  The speakers still work just fine as well as the ringer.  I can still hear the person on the other line too, they just can't hear me.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Everyone, My iPhone 4, bought in France summer 2010 when it first released, isn't working properly. There are a few things that are very disturbing: - The speakers on the bottom (where the home-button is) doesn't work properly. If I play music, I hear sound coming out, but with creaks and all. - When I call someone, the receiver can't hear me, so the inner microphone doesn't work.- When the battery has still 11% left, it sometimes just dies suddenly. Does anyone recognize (one of) these problems?My plan is to go make an appointment with the Aplle Store and hopefully I can get an new iPhone for a certain amount of money, because I think it's a mistake in the system. Thank you!

Iphone 5 won't record sound during video capture

Hi there. My iPhone 5 has been working perfectly for about 5 months then about a month ago I noticed that my camera was just recording a hissing sound (nothing else) during video capture. Voice memos record and play perfectly and everything else works as it should The strange thing is that if I insert my earphones then the camera will record sound even from far away but when I take them out again it just records a hissing sound. I've tried plugging the earphones in and out, hard reset, and restoring but I still have the same issue.surely the voice memo and camera use the same microphone? The only thing that seems to be wrong is that the phone camera records no sound without earphones plugged in Please somebody tell me there's an easy fix as we have no apple stores here so I would need to ship it off to be repaired if the need be.

Hi, I am new to this forum so i apologise in advance for not following any rules thats set. I have a Iphone 5, 16 GB for 6 months and for the past month or so i've been having issues with the microphone.     1. During a call if i want to use loudspeaker the mic cuts out so the person on the other end can not hear what i am saying, yet while during a call off loudspeaker          they can hear me fine.     2. Siri can not detect anything i say or any noise what so ever when i try to use siri, but can when using a headset.     3. When trying to use voice to text in messages no speech is detected. When using a headset under all three of these, they work fine, calling someone works fine aslong as i don't use loudspeaker.i have tried to restore the phone to see if this corrects the problems but no luck. The firmware version is 6.1.4, on EE 4G. Any help with this is appriciated. Tyler.

My built in apps have disappeared how can person reinstall Safari Siri or App Store on an iphone 4S

I have lost my built in apps and do not know how to reinstall them on my phone.  The Safari and App Store icons are gone.  I can no longer surf the net on my phone and the little "microphone" key has also disappeared when I send text messages etc.  I now have to actually type the message instead of speaking into my phone.  Siri has also vanished.  Any advice?

iPhone 5 Rear microphone

Hello, There appears to be an issue with my iPhone 5's rear camera microphone. When recording video it causes white noise and I can barely hear any audio at all. To diagnose the fault I phoned myself and put music on. I could hear the music fine without loudspeaker, I then switched on loudspeaker while the screen was facing upwards (to test the front facing mic) and it was fine, once I turned the phone upside down, the audio cut out. To ensure that my desk wasn't just blocking my front facing mic, I switched loudspeaker off and then turned it back to face up, then again to face down and then switched loudspeaker back on. Unfortunately it confirmed that was the fault. I have recorded voice memos and front facing videos with no issue, but when using the rear camera I still have the same fault. I have cleaned out the small opening for the mic and haven't caused my phone any damage, so I can't understand why this would happen? Has anyone else had this issue? Will I have to have my entire phone replaced, the whole rear camera or just the microphone? Are there any fixes I can perform myself? Thanks,Ross

I can hear someone when I'm talking on the phone and if someone texts me while I'm talking on the phone I can hear it.  Otherwise, my phone makes no sound unless earplugs are in.  No ringer, no alarm, any video or audio....all silent.  Even Siri is quiet!

Without my knowing it, I recently had my iPhone 4 fall out of my jacket. When I came back and found it, it had been out in the rain for 3 hours.  Now, the microphone does not work when making or receiving calls.  The speakerphone microphone at the top works fine, but not the one at the bottom.  I have tried rebooting, too, and nothing seems to work.  Do I need to take it to the Apple store to diagnose and fix?

Hello together!I just recognized that the quality of Phone calls is very bad.The person who calls me sounds like a robot and the same for me to the other person. We just tried different things and find out that the bad speech quality just appears when we're using a protection case with a hardcover which covers the small microphone next to the camera on the back.I'm using the Griffin Survivor Heavy-Duty Case:http://store.griffintechnology.com/iphone/iphone-5/survivor-iphone5The camera, microphone and flash on the back of the iPhone 5 is covered by a small rubber that you can pull out and twist to use the camera.If the rubber coveres the camera und mic on the back it's nearly impossible for the other person to understand me because I sound like a robot. I close it again - I the other person can't understand me again. We although tried it with different other cases with a backplate that covered the small hole on the back between camera and flashlight - and just put the finger on the hole and it's the same situation:If the small hole is covered I sound like a robot to the other person, if it's uncovered all is fine. It looks like, that the new background noise recognition is not working very well.Can anyone reconstruct this problem as well?  The problem with the robot sound that I hear from the people that call me, seems has nothing to do with the microphone on the back. SincerelySunrise

Why doesn t Apple make it possible to deactivate Voice Control iPhone 3G

Voice control is really annoying. I really wish I could turn it off. But I can't. Supposedly I can turn off some of the things voice control does (with limited success) but I can't disable it completely even though I really want to. Really. And a lot of other people want to, too, if the forums are anything to go by.  Problems include:- Accidental activation (yes, triple click home is turned off, and yes I have a passcode)- Accidental calling people. The last time this happened I was asleep and I must have accidentally leant on my phone. Somehow it interpreted my breathing as "Facetime (friend's name)". That person lives in another country. It was the middle of the night. Could apple please reinburse me for this ridiculous nighttime overseas call? I also discovered that disabling voice calling with the passcode option doesn't disable facetime. Why not?- Accidentally playing music. This is really awkward especially in quiet serious places when your pocket or handbag starts to sing. There is NO WAY to stop this happening. My phone is on silent!! Still, voice control makes the beep beep noise and plays music when some accidental pressure touches the button. Last time was during a work meeting. If I get fired because of apple...- It hears things I don't say, and doesn't understand what I do say. To the best of my knowledge, I don't say "Facetime (complicated Indian name)" in my sleep. Seriously. But "Next song" should be simple enough! ATTENTION APPLE SOFTWARE ENGINEERS!! Please make an "off" option!! Surely it is a simple thing that will make millions happy. There are a LOT of discussions on the Support Communities about this. Please do something about it. There is a very simple solution, whereby people can choose if Voice Control is something they want to use or not. Please. Pretty please with sugar on top.

iPhone speakers very quiet

I've had this phone since July 2012, and my mother had it since the June of 2011 before me.I'm a teenager, and can't get myself to an Apple store - not that we have one locally. Basically since about September my speakers have been playing both music and ringtones incredibly quietly - it's barely even the same level as 1 volume bar. I've tried restarting it, i've updated it and blown on all of the speaker points, tried a hairdryer and still nothing. It's on full volume limit and full volume, plays fine with headphones and through speakers. It's literally just the bottom speakers, as the ear speaker seems to be ok during calls. As far as I know I didn't drop it or spill anything on it, and I doubt it's any of my apps?I really don't want to restore it to factory settings as I have apps from various itunes accounts, some of which aren't always accessible

proximity sensor not working iPhone 4

i recently broke my iphone´s screen, i could`t use it, because every time i used it i cut myself on the shattered glass so i went to ebay and found one of the cheapest replacement screen i could find ( because i couldn´t afford having someone fixing it, or bying something of better quality). I replaced the screen, everything seemed to be going well, until i found out that the proximity sensor wasn´t working. It is really annoying when i am calling someone or answering a call, because i keep putting them on hold, deactivating the microphone or hanging up accidently. Is there any way to fix this, either actually replacing some hardware (if it doesn´t cost to much) or with a Cydia tweak. i apologise for my any mispellings or mistakes, English is not my first language. thanks for your help

My iphone 4 ear piece volume is extremelly quiet ( with volume on maximum ) The ring speaker is fine, when on a call and on loud speaker fine, with the earphone jack in thats fine too. Is this the ear piece coming to the end of its life? Obviously its out of warrenty...... Does anyone think an apple store will help?

Iphone 4s mic malfunctioning

I have found several threads about the microphone not working right but none like as follows.  When i place or recieve a call on my iphone 4s in typical operation (no bluetooth / speakerphone etc) the other end of the call is treated to a large amount of high pitch noise and whistling sounds.  If I put it on speakerphone everything works correctly, or if i plug in a headset everything works correctly.  I saw a thread about blasting out the noise cancelling mic hole by the headphone jack and i blasted the bejezus out of it using compressed air for several minutes to no avail.  The phone has had no big drops or water damage and is usually chillin in its case.  The other thing i noticed is if i call my desk phone and i tap the top of the phone i can hear the tapping but if i tap the bottom of the phone i dont. So the noise cancelling mic is fucntional. It basically sounds like a screaching horrible sound when have it in normal mode on the other end. I can hear people fine.

I have an Apple 4 I phone. I recently downloaded the update to IOS 6 and immediately afterwards my phone started acting up. During a phonecall, the microphone (speaker) seems to disconnect. I can hear the other person but suddenly they no longer can hear me. I have hit the "speaker button" to see if that would change things but it does not. The only thing that appears to be wrong is they no longer can hear me.I use this phone as my primary phone. I have done the reset. I have done everything I can think off. Occassionally if I turn it off for about 5 minutes the thing will work properly again. So I did it this time. I then called Apple Support line to ask them how to fix the problem and guess what....... they could not hear me  So I assuming I got a bad update or something is wrong with the software. So how do I reinstall IOS 6 or is that what I should do? Thanks in Advance.

iPhone 5 LTE 4g will not work on O2 UK when they release 4G

Hey guys just thought I would highlight this as I should think many people have brought a new iPhone 5 in preparation for the release of the 4g network next year.  Sadly I have to report that it is looking highly unlikely that you will be able to use you iPhone 5 on the O2 and Vodaphone network when they eventually buy the licence and launch their network. The reason quite simply the only frequencies which the iPhone 5 supports are not going to be available for the time being here in the Uk.  EE is the only supported network in the UK and they have purchased the licences for the only frequencies in the uk which the iPhone 5 supports. O2 and the apple store both kept this quiet when I upgraded to my iphone 5, even when I made it clear to the apple store assistant I intended to use it on 4g when it's eventually released. "Yes it will work" I was told. The sales guy in the O2 store also told me the same. I've returned my iPhone 5 mainly because of bad battery problems however I also didn't want to be stuck with a 4g phone where I can't use 4g when it's released. I first read about this on the BBC website but this link explains the crocks of the problem... http://thenextweb.com/apple/2012/09/12/apples-iphone-5-will-contain-limited-uk-4 g-lte-support-freezing-vodafone-o2/ Has anyone else been incorrectly advised and mis-sold? I'm now holding out to give EE a try, and, of course when the iPhone battery drain problem has been resolved.

I used Facetime with my daughter,  I could hear her but she couldn't hear me.  The microphone on the screen had a slash through it like it was muted.  I tried to click that to unmute it.  I have no clue how to get it to unmute.  I went in the settings to see if I could fix it.  I have no idea how to unmute it.   Thanks

My iphone 5's screen broken after coming back from mail in service What happened

I just got my iPhone back from mail in service through applecare and the screen is shattered! I refused service because they wanted me to pay for it and so they sent it back. I originaly sent it for them to fix the microphone because it stopped working, and then i got an email saying they found accidental damage. There was a picture on the support page but it wouldnt load. So what the heck happened to my iphone because I know I didnt send it like this.

My phone works fine normally. Occasionally calls connect and neither party can hear one another but on the whole it's normally okay. I have dropped my phone a few times, once causing a small crack on the top left hand corner. The problem I'm now having is that whenever I use a headset the microphone on my phone doesn't work. To begin with I thought it was the headset but I've tried a few now and have the same problem. I tested this using the voice memo function on my phone. My voice was picked up better when holding the phone to my ear (with headset still plugged in) and was quieter when speaking into the headset. I couldn't hear myself at all when covering the mic on the bottom of the phone and speaking into the headset. I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software problem or how I can go about getting it fixed. Help please!

the recording volume gets so low that I can hardly hear myself talking when plugged in an earbuds using the mic of the earbus. It happens in every app, Voicememo, Skype,etc, everyting that uses earpods' microphone.But when I plug my earpods into my older iphone, there is not the problem, everything just works fine. So it's definetly not an earphone issue, there must be something wrong within the Iphone 5. Please give me some advice

Everyone I talk to on my iPhone 5 say the back ground noise is very loud and it is worse on the apple headset. I see the commercial says the new 5 is designed to cancel background noise. Is there a microphone adjustment?
