iphone stuck when first syncing

i recently purchased an iphone 3g 8gb. loved it and everything worked flawlessly with it. i released that the 8gb wasnt enough so i went out and exchanged it for a 16gb phone instead. so i came home to sync it with my itunes and its stuck in the sycing stage. its stuck on syncing contacts. i have restored it and tried to uncheck the options to sych with and no matter what it gets stuck syncing anything. can anyone help me out with this. id like to be able to use my new iphone instead of watching it sycn. it is using software 2.2 please help! imac 24" Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I tried to erase all content and settings and now apple logo wont leave iPhone

I had a lot of data on my phone and i wanted to get rid of it. so i went to the settings and went to reset. then i chose erase all content and settings. that was at about 330 today. it said it may take about an hour and i tapped ok and the apple and loading bar came up. i left the house without my phone figuring that the process would be done when i got back. i got home about 2 hours later and my phone was stuck on the logo and i couldnt get it to go away. i tried reseting it and nothing. i let the battery die and nothing. its still stuck on the logo and ocassionally the little loading circle apears and once in a while it will vibrate or flash. can anyone help me? my phone is basically my life and i depend on it for so much. any advice is greatly appreciated. dell Windows XP

Chinese Iphone 3G

I recently purchased an Iphone 3G from a company in Hong Kong. The price was only $200, so I thought nothing of it. I first contacted them and asked if this phone was a true Iphone 3G and they said yes it is. I then asked them if I could jailbreak it and set it up through Itunes, the answer was yes. So when I got my Iphone the first thing I noticed is the dock/plug-in on the bottom of the Iphone is VERY small. Its only 5/16 long, unlike my Ipod Touch which is 7/8 long. Earphone tip broken off into port-Employee tries to fix considered accidental dmg iPhone 3G

A couple of weeks ago the tip of my iPhone earphone broke off into the port. I had my iPhone in the inside of my coat pocket, I come home, take out the earphone and low and behold the tip became stuck inside of it.My iPhone thinks that a set of earphones are constantly plugged in, even tho they are not. Because of this, I have to talk on the phone by either a bluetooth or speaker.About a week ago I went to the Apple store in Manhattan and seeked some help. I didnt have an appointment or anything as I was just touristing around the city and just ran into the Apple store. I was planning on going to my local Apple store sometime after Christmas when I have a few days off and time to take care of it.At the store, an blue shirt genius attempted to pry the piece out with some type of tool to no prevail. He then said to me since the iPhone is still covered under warranty, he would be happy to exchange it right then and there. I told him that I didnt want to as I wasnt prepared because I never backed up any of my contacts and such. The plan for me was to go home, backup my iPhone data, go to my local Apple store, have them look at it, and if they were unable to fix it, then get a new iPhone under warranty.So today I go out to my local Apple store at King of Prussia, PA and the associate and manager there told me that they can not give me an exchange because the tip of the earphone breaking off was due to accidental damage, and accidental damage is not covered by the limited warranty. (I looked over the warranty online after I left and it does say this.) However, how is this accidental damage? It was in my coat pocket comfortably, working fine all the way until I took it out. I asked the associate this and he referred to the roughed up edges on the rounded port to where you put the earphone jack into, and referred to this as accidental damage. BUT...that roughed up edge was caused by an Apple Store employee at the 5th avenue Manhattan store as he tried to pull it out with some tool.After some more arguing with the store manager, I ended up not getting a new iPhone yet....But he did tell me that I can buy a new one for $299; like I didnt know how much I spent on it in the first place.Another thing that ***** tho is that there is no history of me being at the Manhattan store as I never had an appointment and just walked in. But now there is a history of me going into my local Apple store and not getting a new iPhone because of accidental damage, which was caused by an Apple employee. Anyways, what do you all think about this? The manager said it was accidental damage because of the roughed up edges, but those roughed up edges were caused by an Apple employee himself.

iPhone 3G Suddenly Malfunctioning

My wife has a 3g 16gb and today it froze, then went to phone where it got stuck (couldnt even use the main button to get back to the home screen, it just wouldnt respond). The other thing is that it wont turn off - holding the top button just turns the screen off or on, it never triggers the turn device off? dialog. Trying to get it to do something other than phone, I hit the main button and the power button at the same time and it made a camera sound (taking a pic) and the screen has gone blank, all white. Toggling the audio/no audio button on the side makes the littel bell icon show up, but otherwise there is nothing on screen and I still cant turn the device off. Ive attached it to iTunes and it is recognized, so is restoring it my only option? I dont believe its been backed up, so I wanted to ask if anyone knew of another option first?? Thanks!! G4

I like the classic view better, was searching for a way to change it to that in the Settings during a football game... My point follows.I was in the apps Settings screen, fiddling with it by scrolling up and down a bit during the review and not looking at the screen - nervous habit, I guess...After the TD, I stopped fidgeting and looked back at the Settings screen, and theres a new menu at the bottom of the screen I swear wasnt there before called Bells and Whistles. Theres four new settings, following with an appropriate descriptions.Theme Color.Sounds. Default, Chicken, Monkey.Live Waveform. While using the voice search, the waveform matches the intonation of the sound.Open Link in App. I like this one - linked results in the app dont launch the Safari browser and lose your search results; and a new navigational bar appears at the bottom of the app.Dont shoot the messenger. A buddy watching the game didnt have the extra settings, but just kept scrolling down for a few minutes and the extra settings just showed up and stuck after that. MBP Mac OS X (10.5.4)

accelerometer broken iPhone 3G

I think my accelerometer broke. Has anyone ever experienced this? Pictures dont rotate when I tilt my phone. When I use the zippo app, the flame stays straight up when I tilt my phone. Is this covered under warranty? Will apple fix this or am I stuck with this? HP dv1000 Windows XP none

Is the iPhone going to be compatible with MS Windows Surface? The technology is out and AT&T stores are starting to get shippments of their units soon. Im considering buying one as soon as it is available to the public. I just cant figure out if its communicating through bluetooth or any other means. Is it going to be compatible with our iPhones and the iPod Touch? The reason Im currious is that I just bought my iPhone 1 month ago and Ill be stuck with it for 2 years. Strange Screen Contrast Problem iPhone 3G

Hi. I have a very strange situation with my iphone. Lately the screen has been flickering between normal brightness and a bit brighter. I thought, hmm maybe I need to change my brightness settings. So I placed it beside another iphone, synced their brightness to the same level, and the first one still flickers up and down in brightness. As of today, it has been stuck at too-bright and wont go back to normal again. With my knowledge of televisions and such, I believe the issue is actually in the contrast, not brightness. The brightness itself seems to be stable, but the colors are drowned out with the contrast flickering. Its so confusing, because I did nothing to seemingly trigger this problem, no recent drops or changes.I have no idea what to do next. Ive tried searching google for iphone 3g contrast change and all sorts of wordings, it seems no one else has this problem but me.Do you know what I can do to fix this? I am a DIY so I wish to fix it without sending it in. But Apple doesnt have a change-contrast feature? Ive heard about Apple offering free upgrades or rebates for the difference of a price when a product is updated or its price is cut. Do they do this with the iPhone as well? I need to buy one for work ASAP, but Im concerned that if it gets updated, as many rumors would have you believe, Ill be stuck with an out-of-date product within days. Hello all, i am a new iphone buyer and wondered if any of you had the same experience as me...Purchased on the 24th of December 2008 an iphone 3g 16gb... I opened the box and the box was not sealed. Not thinking anything of it, i proceeded to take the iphone out of its box. The 26th was the first time i tried to use it. I had to insert the sim card, on trying to do this, the sim eject remained stuck inside...I tried and tried to get it to work, but it wouldnt. The next day my Father returned the iphone to the 02 shop in Chester, England and they said that it had been tampered with!!I had used slight pressure to eject the sim card and it wouldnt move.They are now sending the iphone back to you for your engineers to look at it. iphone stuck in Restoring iphone firmware during restore .

Well, about a month ago a screen showed up on my iphone saying something about iphone needs repair and emergency calls only. I then tried to restore it and everything (as directed by apple help) and it did not work. Now the screen displays the image of the USB cord with an arrow towards the itunes icon. Every time I try to restore it it gets stuck in....RESTORING IPHONE FIRMWAREThen an ERROR MESSAGE pops up usually # 1002. I tried to send it in not knowing the policy on no warranty coverage with a cracked screen (the screen cracked about 6 months before I started having any problem whatsoever). Does anyone know how to get past restoring iphone firmware or have the same problem?Also, is there any chance if I go into a store that I would have a chance getting a replacement with the cracked screen? iPhone stuck in headphone mode

Like some others, I have the same problem however there seems to be a hard obstacle impeding the complete insertion of the headphone jack by about 3mm (1/4 inch?). I tried the insertion and reinsertion 10-15 times as recommended in other posts, and also tried the reboot and change eq settings all to no avail. When I insert the headphone jack the Phone automatically recommences playing the last tune playing. When I withdraw the jack it stops playing. Sudden random rapid iphone battery drain 3G

I have an interesting problem with my iPhone 3g where the battery will suddenly drain...going from a high charge to a very low charge within a couple of hours, even though the phone is not even in use.Here are some more details.My iPhone is running 2.2, and I have bluetooth turned off. I have also turned off push for everything, so the phone should only access the internet when I specifically ask it to. I am in a 3g network area with strong signal and I do have 3g turned on.A typical scenario goes like this. The phone has a full charge in the morning when I disconnect it from the Mac. Over the course of the morning, I use it pretty normally...talk on the phone a while, check email, surf the web, check facebook, use a few apps, etc. By early afternoon, the battery is down to about 70% or so.Then, I do not use the phone for the next three hours, and I go to make a call late in the afternoon and I notice that the battery is down to 10% or so; sometimes the phone is physically warm as well.So basically, an entire morning of normal phone use drains the battery 30%, and I dont use it at all in the afternoon and something drains the battery another 60%.My guess is that something (a bug in the phone OS?) is doing something that rapidly drains the battery...like something is stuck, but certainly nothing obvious I have done. Error 6-Phone restore iTunes iPhone 3G

I do not have a question, rather, Im hoping to save someone else time and headache.When I first purchased my phone about a month ago, I used it extensively for the first day or two and personalized the settings to my tastes.However, on the 2nd night I owned it, I downloaded iTunes and plugged it into my computer. My recollection is a bit fuzzy, but I believe it told me my phone had an update. I chose the update option, and I received several error messages telling me I needed to do a restore. I chose the restore option, and received an Error 6 message. My phone would not restore. I was stuck with the image of the white USB cord and iTunes on my phone screen.The next morning, I took the computer into work and tried it on my newer computer at the office. This computer has USB 2.0. Im not sure if my older USB at home had to do with the issue, though. I do receive a notification message at home, though, that warns me that the device will operate faster with the USB 2.0.I did a ton of research on the internet, and found MANY with this issue. However, the information that was given to fix this error was limited, and few users have had success fixing this problem.In any event, system restore worked at the office and my phone was set back to my original settings (with 4 years of contacts gone forever). I had not backed my phone up yet, as the error occured before I had a chance to figure out iTunes & the iPhone 3G.Now, Ive had the phone operating without issue for approximately a month. Last night, while my phone was plugged into iTunes, I received a message asking if I wanted to restore the phone. I hit Cancel. I was back with the screen as referenced above with the USB. Im not too sure what happened to cause this. (I was finishing my second glass of wine)So, I did some more research and found this page: http://www.technipages.com/iphone-error-6.htmlI did this, AND IT WORKED! In the forums though, I have found no reference to this fix.Thankfully, this time, I had a backup on iTunes and didnt lose any information.I really wonder if Apple computer users experience this issue, or if this is exclusively Windows users. Ive had computer trouble for 2 weeks at work, which ended up in me missing a non-refundable vacation due to several deadlines which I could not focus on.My experience with this iPhone (other than the issue referenced above) has been amazing. Its so simplistic in operation, as opposed to my Samsung Blackjack that required going through multiple folders and useless steps. However, switching to a Mac for my home computer just isnt effective at the moment. I have a computer that was given to me at no cost, has TONS of space, and has had no issues with the exception of my experience with this new phone.)In any event, I hope that if someone else has this issue and plugs the same search terms I did, they will find this information and it will be effective.This has been a very frustrating experience as it is so easy to become dependent on this very functional device.Best of luck to future users with Error 6 after a forced phone restore in iTunes. hi, Im really need your help with this. I have my iphone for a month and everything was okay since yesterday when i used the Safari. suddenly, the iphone was stuck and it didnt react for some minutes. so, i restarted it, and then for my surprise everything worked fine but the phone button. when i pushed on it, the interface of the keyboard opened but it didnt response when i pushed on the numbers or any other application of this interface. since then, i cant make phone calls from the phone button, but i can make phone calls from the contact list without the ability to disconnect .I restarted the iphone many times but it didnt change it. as many apple iphone lovers i thought buying abroad could save me money when all it has done is create hassle after i upgraded my software to 2.2i originally bought my iphone 3g in hong kong and was given a sim card booster with my iphone, so when i got back in the uk i put it in with a pay as u go o2 sim card it was working perfectly until i downloaded 2.2 from itunes. then i lost all signal and my iphone was not picking up my sim card when it was working fine before the upgrade. after loosing all signal i restored my iphone to factory setting in itunes thinking it would solve my 2.2 problems but then when it had reset it was stuck on the emergency call screen and said i could only continue with a valid sim card inserted which i dont understand as my regular sim had no problems before some plz help!!!! what can i do to get my iphone back to its normal self .. i am not a pro with tech in an iphone so can someone plz help!!Message was edited by: dominic s sony vaio vgn-nr11s Windows Vista

Hello, when I turned on my iPhone 3G (2.2) this morning, it displayed Restore Needed message and said that it cannot make or receive calls. When I plugged in to my computer to do a restore with iTunes. iTunes told me to unlock the phone with my password since my iphone is protected. The issue is that I have no where to input this password on the iPhone!! The only screen that iPhone is showing is the Emergency Call keyboard. So I am stuck. iPhoneiPod locks up when I press FF button too fast since 2.2

Ive been enjoying that tip about double tapping the home button when the iPhone is locked in order to bring up the iPod controls. I especially like to use this when driving, but since 2.2, when I press the FF button too fast, the phone locks up and is non-responsive for about five minutes and Im stuck listening to whatever song its on. When it unsticks itself, it usually then stops the songs altogether and locks the phoneHas anyone else noticed this, and is there a fix you can share before I fill out their feedback form? Hi. I hope you can assist me. My iphone is looking to the USA for both App Store and also Itunes. And I am in the UK! This is despite my taking a number of steps to rectify this;1. Ensuring the frontpage of my itunes store on the pc shows UK store.2. Checking the apple account information on itunes on my pc is showing GBR.3. Visiting my o2 store seeking assistance. 4. Contacting Apple Care who say they can offer no more as they have ensured I have tried everything they can offer and suggested contacting Apple Support Discussions or visiting an Apple Store4. Downloading current itunes software to pc - 8.02.205. Syncing my iphone a number of times even after all the suggested changes.Both myself, the o2 store and apple care are now at a loss as to what to do next to rectify my problem, as I am unable to download anything from either app store or itunes from my iphone as I am not a USA user. And anything I download on my pc itunes will not sync to my phone I am guessing because of country confusion.I am stuck now with knowing what to do next and would like to be able to use both facilities as other iphone users.Can anyone suggest any help please? Got dead pixel This trick it fixed mine and reset stuck green pixel iPhone 3G

I noticed a stuck bright green pixel at the top center of my home screen. Very annoying, thinking I would have to go back to Apple for my 3rd replacement iphone. After reading some tips online, I launched mylite flashlight app and used the color flasher. While the screen was cycling through different colors I carefully massaged the dead pixel area of the home screen with my finger, and poooof!! It went away almost instantly. Earpieces water bad sound quality iPhone 3G

Hey all! I know this is not the right forum to post this question, please redirect me to the correct forum or you could answer my question here. Usually, when Im not listening to music on my iPhone, I would plug out the earpieces that ship with the iPhone and put them in a separate pocket. One fine day, I forgot to take the earpieces out of my pocket and the next thing I knew, my whole pants was washed and cleaned. I took the earpieces and left them under the sun to dry (sounds kinda dumb, I know) when I plugged them back into my iPhone, the left earpiece was louder then the right earpiece and the sound quality was not as good. The earpiece was still in working condition as the button that sits on the wire still works. Is there a way to actually fix this or am I stuck with this? TIA! Frequent random loss of phone service post 2.2 upgrade iPhone

I was experiencing constant phone call drops and poor 3G reception with 2.0.1 firmware which seem to be solved with 2.1 firmware.Ever since upgrading to 2.2 firmware, 3G iPhone randomly loose phone service signal (both Edge or 3G) and stuck in searching... mode. Rebooting seems to prompt phone signal connection. Airplane mode cycling may or may not restore signal connection. Even after finding phone service signal, overall signal strength has deteriorated since upgrade.I have reinstalled 2.2 firmware with and without restoring. Even with fresh 2.2 firmware install without any other additional applications, music, and other files made no difference.What is next option? Downgrade to 2.1? Replace a phone? Any suggestion? my iphone is with firware 1.14 and currently the power button is stuck.it still working properly but it wont bounce back to its original position and you cant feel the click after it is pressed.my 2g iphone is bought in U.S although Im using it in Hong Kong.and since I will be travelling to the U.S., therefore, I would like to bring my phone with the receipt (still warranty covered)for fixing this problem. But i heard from someone that the Apple store wont allow you to leave the store without activiting the iphone OR wont fix it if it is inactivate. Could anyone please give me advise on this??Also, since Im only travelling to U.S for 1-2 days only, do u guys know if I have to leave my phone for fixing or they will simply give me a new one??Thanks heaps.

BUG Returning to Text message SLOW typing and iPhone Deactivating

So this morning I go to text someone and realize that the text from last night was still up and unsent, so I tap inside the message to bring up the keyboard and it doesnt show up. I go back to all messages and click on another message and the scrolling window is stuck and thinks it is at the bottom when there were still other parts of the conversation that were below. I could drag the window down and see them, but couldnt scroll to them or start a new message. I restarted the iPhone thinking that would solve it, but it actually only deactivated my iPhone. I had to reconnect to iTunes and was only able to make emergency calls. I have also noticed in this release that there is slow typing. I mean SLOW! Go to wells fargos site and enter a user and password. Let me know when you are done....tomorrow. It is seriously obnoxious.These are the 3 things that I have found. I realy dont want to get into this whole restart phase. I thought we were done with that.... I think everyone made fun of an OS that you had to restart over and over again. Seems the tables have turned... awesome pc Windows Vista faster cheaper and more stable

I purchased my iPhone 3G the second day it was released. There was no way i wanted to wait in line for hours. For the first month owning the iPhone, i noticed a white spot by the speaker. I thought i had scratched it and didnt think anything of it. By the 4th month, there were 2 more, and clearly you can see that they were either debris or air packets stuck underneath. I Also found 3 new bubbles by the bottom left, by my home button.The reason I am posting this thread is to get some piece of mind because, Rogers, my provider says that they will charge me 800$ if they find that this is my fault. I really hope the bubbles and debris isnt because of me, but because of the manufacturing techniques.Can someone shed some light, does this sound like a reasonable exchange for a new iPhone? I actually got one comming thing way, i think it will arrive early next week. 2.2 wont let me end calls iPhone 3G

Hi,Ive done a brief search on here but cant find any postings regarding this so heres my post!After updating to firmware 2.2 Ive had SO many issues.The main issue though is that when I want to end a call, I move the handset round so I can tap on the end call button but the screen wont come alive!I cant even get any response out of the phone. I press home or the button on top of the phone and still nothing. This happens 98% of the time regardless of the call length.During the call I can often still get access to the keypad etc within the first few minutes of the call but after that its as if the phone is dead. But, at least its stopped dropping my calls!So, has anyone else experienced this since firmware update 2.2?I seriously wish Id stuck with Nokia after all the hassles and disappointments Ive had with the iPhone - please allow MMS! Replace 3G iphone

hi. I just wanted to know if i should try for a replacement 3g phone.basically, both sides oft eh phone feel rough (metal bezel) and the left side you can actually see/feel the potruding edge. Lots of light leakage on left side and 2 originally dead pixels and now a stuck pixel... all about the middle of the phone. Also, i dont know if this is an issue or not, but the glass near the top of the phone sticks up over the edge of the metal whereas on the bottom its flush.. also it depresses if i press it.I bought it from rogers last week monday and im wondering if i should just accept the phone or take it into the apple store or to rogers? should i call them first (rogers or apple tech)? iPhone 3g Windows XP Pro canada rogers phone.

Home button issue iPhone 3G

Hmm .. okay. Since I got my iphone on July, it happened like 2-3 times - last time was yesterday. I press my home button and it takes me to favorite call. In favorite call, I can go to dialpad, missed/received/called status but whenever i press home button it takes me back to favorite call. In this case, I was stuck on favorite call, I could not go anywhere .. I need home button to get to main screen and check setting. Turn off and resetting is painful .. i hold for like 10-15 seconds for either option. It just turn off screen or just take snapshot. At maybe second or third attempt, i get to turn it off and turn on again to function properly. Yesterday, i even considered to get replacement but I am happy with it now. Just for curiosity, how fast do they transfer my data from my old phone to replaced phone? I heard that the replacement great .. you could replace because you think it is not working or just dust inside screen.Is it normal? If so, how you guys handle it? And if so, is it better to reset/turn off the phone once a month?? Iphone 3g 2.2.

2.2 bricked my iphone 3G

Hiya gangI tried to update my firmware last night, all was going well, and itunes failed to update the device.I am now stuck with a screen showing a USB cable pointing to itunes.Ive tried holding the home button, to reset the device, and itunes recognises it so it can restore. But this gets a certain way and fails.When I plub the iphone into my PC, i get a hardware install screen, which cant find the drivers for the iphone, so itunes doesnt recognise it!I am going to the O2 store at lunch, and will probably be greated by blank faces when I tell them my phone is a brick.Anyone got any advice on what I can do to get my phone back?CheersDB PC Windows XP Pro XP 64 bit

iPhone stuck on connect to iTunes screen

My iPhone 3G is stuck on the connect to iTunes screen and I cant do anything with my phone at all. Ive tried holding home + lock key for 10 seconds and it starts back up - but stays at the connect to iTunes screen. Any suggestions? 2.2 Disaster iPhone

Today I upgraded iTunes to 8.0.2. Then I connected my iPhone so that would load the 2.2 upgrade. Near the end of the installation process the program ran the verification process, and stuck at the end of it for a long time. Finally a message appeared saying that an unexpected error had occurred. Simultaneously the iPhone started showing the icon that says it wants to be connected to iTunes (USB plug with an arrow pointing to iTunes). Then it started continuous cycling through shutdown, beginning to restart, ending in a few seconds with the icon described above, and doing the whole thing all over again. In the meantime iTunes no longer recognizes the phone.Ive tried restarting, resetting, etc,, etc. Nothing works. I cant even turn the phone off, though I suppose eventually the battery will run down. In the meantime the phone has zero functionality.Help will be gratefully received. iMac G4, MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.5)

my phone gets stuck on the start up screen ( black screen with white apple) and it will stay like that till it just dies. i have no idea what to do! please HELP!!!!!
