no wifi icon but am online iPhone 5

my iphone 5 starting acting up lately.  i am online but there is no wifi icon on top.  when i checked the speed of my router, macbkpro will register 3mbps., ipad2 will register 2.3mbps and my iphone 5 will have a measly .35mbps. taking into consideration that my ipad 2 has the wifi issues because of ios6 which was much discussed here in the forum.  i have mentioned before that before ios6, my ipad has better signal than my iphone. but after ios 6, iphone5 showed better signal with the same set of circumstances of the router.   3g signal is very good but there is frequent failure or delay in sending text messages and frequent dropped or choppy signal of  phone calls.what is wrong with my phone. should i have it exchanged?

iphone 5 issues hopefully have an easy solution. advice would be greatly appreciated.

I got the iphone 5 about 6 months ago and have had wifi reception problems the entire time. I spend most of my time in my entertainment room (studio) which is on the opposite end of the house from the router. I have an imac, an apple tv2, an ipad, and (2) iphone 4 all using the same wifi and housed in this same room. They all have no problem picking up the signal and staying connected. My wife and her son both have iphone 4S and never lose connection when they are in my room. It's very frustrating because I was so excited about being able to mirror my phone through the apple tv and hd tv. I own an AT&T iphone 4 and a Verizon iphone 4 that aren't capable of mirroring. I have the original ipad which isn't capable of mirroring. My wife's 4S and her son's 4S are both capable and do it with ease but it's their phones, not mine. So I stayed patient knowing I would get the next upgrade and it was just a matter of time. Wrong. Between 5 phones, a desktop, a tablet, apple tv, PS3......My iphone 5 was the only one that won't connect. I am not talking about it loses the signal or cuts in and out, I am saying you have to walk halfway down the hall to even get it to detect the signal in the first place. Not a chance in **** of it actually staying connected to it.  I talked to Apple Support about the problem and asked if the iphone 5 had a weaker antenna or if there was a setting that needed to be adjusted. They were polite to me but in so many words let me know that my assessment was ridiculous and news to them. Well okay, no big deal, I just chalked it up as that maybe I got a dud this time as far as the antenna goes. Then, about a week ago, I dropped the phone and shattered the front glass and lcd. Luckily I had insurance and was able to get a brand new replacement. The problem is the antenna reception is exactly the same. So this was not an isolated incident and I wasn't crazy for asking about it. I don't see how they haven't received tons of complaints about this issue. I love Apple products and probably just expect perfection because I have never had any major problems with any of my Apple devices. But it is an unpleasant surprise that the newer model takes several steps back on such an important feature. Sorry for the rant and I remain positive that this issue can be addressed, if it hasn't already. P.S.....The iphone 5 that I got two days ago has an awesome new feature. If you are using the phone for an actual phone call, the person you are talking to can't be heard whatsoever. If you can get them to talk really loudly and repeat themselves at least three times, you will have a greater chance of comprehending the purpose of the call.

iPhone 4s drains fully charged battery within 1 hour after it accidentally plugged into an ipad 3 charger fix

My fully charged iPhone 4s used to last enough for 1 day. Today, I accidentally plugged iPhone into an ipad 3 charger for about 2 hours, then I noticed that it is getting abnormally hot. After this incident, the phone drains battery by decreasing 1% of the battery every minute. I went to see Apple technical support, who tested and said for certain that the problem was the battery (after assuring me that it should be fine to charge iPhone 4s with ipad 3 charger!). After charging me a hefty fee, I left the store, and iphone 4s still drains battery like before. Can my phone be fixed without requiring me to get a new phone? Can I get my money back from Apple techincal support, who gave me a wrong diagosis of my phone?

Hi, I held down the off and home button on my iPhone 4S 64GB and i thought it just turned off but it reset the apps and i still have photos and apps and everything but when i open any social aps it comes up with "connect to iTunes to use push notifications" and also before this event i was using iMessage all the time aswell as texting and now when i use iMessage it doesnt let me send or recieve messages anymore on my iPhone but it does on my ipad and it lets me recieve Texts. Why no international warranty option for iPhone 5

Why is there not an option available to extend the iPhone warranty to an international warranty? Especially with a phone that you tend to take with you whenever you travel having to go to the country you bought it originally is a pain and sometimes not feasible. In my case : when I travelled from Hong Kong to a business trip in the Netherlands and then on to the US my iPhone 5 got stolen at the airport in Hong Kong. luckily I only had a prepaid SIM for Hong Kong in the iPhone so I went online and ordered a new simlock free  iPhone 5 at the Dutch online Apple store to be delivered in Amsterdam a few days later. So far, so good. I am currently in China and my iPhone 5 sleep button broke down. As I had to be in Hong Kong last week I thought I would stop by the Causeway Bay Apple Store after making a genius bar appointment. They checked the iPhone 5 and confirmed the sleep button was broken and it would be swapped for a new one. However on checking my serial number they told me I had to go back to The Netherlands to get it fixed.... So here is a problem, I am not planning on being there any time soon. Why is it not possible in the global economy we live in to get an international warranty?  I called Apple Care and they suggested I could try in an Apple store in North Carolina where I am due in a few weeks, but they could not guarantee they would swap the phone. Now the end of July  I am due in the UK and from what I read now an iPhone bought in any EU country could be swapped in another EU country. so that would mean I could swap it in London?  Very odd.  Always travel with my MacBook Air and MacBook Pro and these do have international warranty.

Character count not work for all contacts anymore. iPhone

I have an iPhone 4 running 6.1.3 with character count enabled and on the Sprint network. Recently character count stopped working when texting at least one of my contacts that i know for sure. I haven't gone through to see how many other contacts have the same issue, but i know it still works for some other contacts. Why would character count show for some of my contacts but not others? And what would cause it to stop working when it showed the number of characters before?I have found the problem exists regardless of if it's an SMS text or iMessage. And there is only one contact at a time that is the recipient; it is not an MMS. Is it possible that there actually is more than one recipient that i'm not aware of or is there another reason why character count would stop working only for certain contacts all of a sudden?

iPhone charger won't charge phone but will charge ipad iPhone 4S

I have multiple chargers for both my iPhone and ipad. Every time I need to charge one of them I have to swap adapters AND cords until I find a pair that works.  For example;  my ipad was charging with regular adaptor and cord, but I needed to charge my iPhone.  When I hooked it up to the charger nothing happened. Samething with car chargers. I do see sometimes it will say accessory is not supportd with this device, but why wounldnt it be?  Thats what its made for!  I have like 10 different chargers so it's getting frustrating.  That's enough info, so if u know please help me

Iphone 5 wifi drops every time I stream BT Home Hub router

Ok this is the second iPhone 5  I've had and I'm having the same issue as the one I've just replaced, the phone is dropping the wifi connection whenever anything is streaming, i.e. YouTube, NetFllix, Podcsts etc... Apple support said it may be my router but every other device in the house is fine, ipad 2, iPod Touch my wifes iPhone 4 and my Macbook. My question is could it be an incopatability issue with my BT Home  Hub 2 router and iPhone 5? I've tried all of the troubleshooting suggested by apple support but the issue continues. I've also tried other possibilities from this and other forums and nothing seems to fix the issue. I'm opening a new thread because of the significance of the router which I think my be the problem but have no idea to be honest. I wished I'd kept my old iphone 4 it was solid and the battery life on this new phone is just shocking! Any help or ideas would be appreciated cheers

YouTube videos load slower on WiFi than LTE iPhone 3G

I have noticed that YouTube videos (using the Google app) have difficulty loading on my iPhone 5 when connected to WiFi.  They will load, but every 10-15 seconds it will stop and try to buffer more video, making the viewing experience entirely undesirable.  I've tried switching WiFi off and the videos load without issue.  I understand that having a WiFi connection enabled makes the video stream at a higher quality vs. LTE which may explain the difference in speed. My question is - does this happen for everyone or just me?  I've run a few speed tests on my WiFi and I am getting the speeds I would expect given the internet plan I have.  Web pages load fine, apps download quickly, etc.  The only issue is with YouTube.  Is this a limitation of YouTube bandwidth or an issue with the app or an issue with the phone?  I heard today that around 1.3 million YouTube videos are played every minute... so if it is just a limitation of YouTube then I guess there is nothing I can do about it... Any help/feedback is appreciated.  Thanks you reading.

Hi everyone, I have an interesting situation going on here.  Today, I had my iPhone replaced due to an issue at the Apple store in Las Vegas. I have an ipad in addition to my iPhone. Prior to the replacement, my ipad and iPhone were fully synced in iMessage. Now, however, after setting this up again, I have lost all of my messages on my iPhone. They are still, however, in my ipad. How can I get them to sync back with my iPhone? I also had my iPhone replaced once before, and I believe it synced right back and I didn't have this problem then (although I didn't have the ipad with me at the time, so that is weird); I don't remember how I did it though.  Hoping to get some help with this, thanks in advance!

Full correct steps should be like this : 1) Select a favourite song in iTunes program to be made into Ringtone...-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------2) "Get Info" on that song name and make any 0:30 seconds portion of that song.... (specify "Start" & "stop" time - under "Options" – to any 30-seconds duration and click OK)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------3) Right-click or Ctrl-Click again on same song name and select "Create AAC Version" to create an .m4a file...(when done iTunes will create a Chime)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------4) to locate the created .m4a file easily, Ctrl-Click again on same song name and select "Show in Finder" from the pop-up list...(iTunes will automatically point the folder location of the original .mp3 & the newly created .m4a files... keep this window open for later...)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------5) change the .m4a file to .m4r as suggested... (rename to whatever you like but you must change the extension to .m4r)-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------6) At this point, the m4r(original) file isn't a "Ringtone" file yet... which we'll need to change now...) (check under "Get Info" > "Kind" :  it's still "Apple MPEG-4 Audio")...1st by dragging that newly changed .m4r(ori) file to somewhere out of that same default folder it was created by iTunes... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------{ this is where most confusions occur, take note here, it gets rather complicated }-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------7) Once it's outside of that folder, Double Click the m4r(ori) file and iTunes will play...(u can stop it immediately...) this is just to let iTunes automatically convert that m4r(ori) file into a new duplicate & places it inside the initial default folder where the original .mp3 file is kept... we kept the window open previously, remember? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------8) Locate that duplicate .m4r(new & true) file, in that same .mp3 folder and now DUPLICATE-Drag (press Option while dragging to get the "+" sign) it to the "TONES" folder in your default apple folder structure. (check under "Get Info", this .m4r(new) File's "Kind" should be "Ringtone")//to get to that "TONES" Folder : First Locate your iTunes default Music Folder in your Mac --> usually it's in your Default "MUSIC" folder --> Navigate to "iTunes Media"  --> Navigate to "Tones". !! Keep this window open to make the transfer manually !!-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------9) Once your duplicate is placed inside the "Tones" folder, double-click on that duplicate .m4r(true) file and let iTunes play, it should automatically place that ringtone file into the "Ringtone" sidebar List in the iTunes program... (check program to see) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------Somehow u needed both duplicates : 1 – inside the default initial .mp3 folder & 1 – inside the Tones Folder which we Duplicate+Drag into... and both must be "Ringtone" – Kind... for this to work.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------10) There you go. Now you can Sync / Delete / Add the whole Ringtone contents to your iPhone as you wish. //Don't forget to set SYNC ON under the iphone  "Tones" tab in your iTunes - iPhone screen... and click big SYNC button at the bottom of iTunes program & wait for the magic.( Finally you can check inside your iPhone "Sounds" settings and hopefully if all steps done correctly, the bloodycomplicatedringtone selection will be there. iphone 5 doesnt accept ID password facetime and imessage not working

Im not sure if its to do with the new update 6.1.4 but my imessage suddenly stopped working. I checked my settings and saw that my email addresses associated with it were deleted. I would do hard resets but it wouldnt solve the problem. Then imessage was only partially working, sending imessages to certain individuals and text messages to the others. When i would try to add my email it would say that my password or ID is incorrect. I was thinking, no this could not be. I signed in and out of Itunes with no problem. I even signed on appleid.com and it worked. I tried it on my ipad which worked. I was scratching my brains. so I had an idea, I proceeded to reset network settings......BIG MISTAKE!!! Now, along with my imessage and facetime problems, I cannot connect to my wifi at home. when I enter the password it says it is incorrect. I have also tried entering the wifi manually but to no avail. I connected my iphone to itunes but it wont back up my data saying an error occured but it doesnt specify the error. Iv also noticed that if i press and hold an app, and it starts shaking, the crosses next to the apps that I hav purchased whether it is free or not does not show the 'x' next to them so I cant manually delete an app. What is going on? Is so frustrating because now I have to rely on my data and its depleting fast. Iv booked an appointment with the Genius bar for next week but I am hoping I can sort this out before hand. My first iphone and I was enjoying it up to now, not happy at all!

iPhone e-mail search trouble

When I use the search box in the iPhone e-mail program my results are displayed for a few seconds, but then they disappear as if there are no results for my search. I can repeat the search, but the same thing happens. I am using the most up to date IOS and the problem does not manifest itself on my ipad or Mac. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi All - I sent an sms using my iphone 5 - It is PAYG and had no money in it. (stupidly)  It tried to send as an SMS but gave the 'green button reject message'.(no money)  Step 2 in this stupidity - the phone keeps trying to send the deleted text via SMS and wont stop notifying me of this. Kind Attention Mr. Jonathan Ive and Team ,  I bought my Iphone 5 with mobile carrier in singapore last december .  Earlier I used Iphone 4/4s /ipad and now I phone 5 . I am big addict of apple products , so i went for Iphone 5  Iphone 4s design was amazing with a glassy feel and no chances of scratches on to its design . But I dont feel the same in iphone 5  I am a Mechancial Design Engineer - Design is basically to relate with Customer User Interface and easeness .  But day -day usage of my Iphone 5 is frustrating because the No of white scractches to its side is going on increasing .  Am i suppose to use case always ?  in that case I would have gone for some low end mobiles where nothing happen even i put it down many times . I keep it so safe and now I am in a big frustration on getting Iphone 5 . very bad feel like losing value of money  I kindly request Mr.Johnathan Ive and concern Manufacturing dept to revert me on my issue .  Is this the design and manufacturing capability of APPLE ?  Regardsprabakar

Apple ID problem iPhone 3G

When setting up my apple ID i put in the wrong email address initially, I typed it wrong. I resolved this by correcting it with the right email address then popping in the correct password. Everything seemed fine initially. But now I keep getting Apple ID popping up with the wrong email address asking for the password (which doesnt exsist). It doesn't affect anything as when it matters, eg app store iCloud etc, it always asks for the password for the correct email address. But this window will pop up constantly, whether I'm in settings, App Store, iMessage.  I've tried looking for a way to stop it from popping up but can't seem to see anything. I really don't want to have to reset my phone so hoping someone out there has some useful advice for me...

4s hissing constantly out of charging port and it very hot

This started completely randomly just now. The charging port is very hot, and it wont stop making a hissing noise at me. Restarting the phone does nothing, and if it is off, the hissing will start whenever the power button is pressed, even if brief enough to not actually turn the phone on. What's going on???

VNC from iphone to mac without wifi

Hello everyone, I'd like to know if it is possible to VNC from my iphone/ipad to my macbook without wifi? I use real VNC viewer to access my Macbook (which has Real VNC Enterprise Server installed) using my iphone/ipad and it works well when I have Internet. However, I'd also like to be able to control my mac from my iphone in the same fashion when I do not have access to WIFI or wired Internet. I have scoured the net for answers and while there are plenty of links for controlling your iDevice from your Mac, there is seemingly nothing out there that shows you how to do the reverse in the absence of Wifi. I have read about SSH tunneling via a tethered USB connection but have not found any comprehensive instructions as to whether such a method would work to control my Macbook with my iPhone/ipad. I was hoping there would be devices such as receivers plugged into the USB port that would allow this sort of interaction when no Internet is available but haven't come across any. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks.

iPhone 5 battery life and speaker issues

Hey guys. Not sure if anyone else is having this issue but firstly. The battery life *****. And really *****. I let phone completely drain at least twice a month. Then fully charge it. Not a huge user but data I know eats it. We are talking literally within two hours of not using it and it will be down to 59%. Didn't expect this off a phone like this. iPhone 4S beats it hands down. Considering going back to it tbh.  Speaker issues are terrible. Tried the music on full pause. Then exit. Then test but still nothing. Rang apple they say its not a fault but why would other people be reporting it.  ipad 4 users. Do you have issues with battery life too? And very slow charge and very quick drain. This is a joke. Nearly a Grands worth of kit and you feel like your using a Nokia 3310.  #annoyed!

Why my iPhone 4S stuck on 1 battery charge despite being charged for 30 hours

I have had my iPhone 4S for barely ten months. In the past, I have had small problems that would either fix themselves or just stop occurring, such as freezing issues.  But recently my phone was drained to a 1% and after realizing this I quickly plugged it into a car charger. About 15 minutes later, I noticed it had switched to an 100% battery charge. I blew it off and the next time I glanced at my phone it was back to 1%, so I turned it off thinking it would reset it and I would leave it to charge. I came back to the phone maybe 30 minutes later to power it up and it displayed the red sliver of battery with a lightning bolt underneath it. It stayed like this for a good while and eventually came on. Since then it has been stuck on this 1% battery charge. One last thing I noticed was that the bolt inside of the battery on the top right hand corner sometimes shows a plug, saying its fully charged. I'd rather not turn it off because I'm not sure it will come back on. What do you guys suggest I do?

iphone 4s won't accept correct passcode

Please help! iphone 4s stopped working today. I used the passcode successfully for months & today it decides to stop accepting it. I don't want to reset the phone back to factory settings. Itunes won't let me back up the data without the passcode. Before you ask, no I did not forget the passcode. - Mark

Facebook Contact Sync Problem iPhone 3G

Hi, I never had the problem of syncing my Facebook contacts with my iPhone 5 and ipad 2 but recently I turned off my Facebook contact sync on my iphone 5 at Settings>Facebook>Contacts and turned it on later, and immediately I noticed only 41 out of 817 Facebook contacts were synced with my iPhone and I lost all the merge with my existing phone contacts. I tried this on my brother's iPhone 5 and hitted the same problem, he has 747 Facebook contacts synced to his device prior to turning off the sync, and after turning off the sync and turning it on later, only 75 out of 747 contacts were synced to his iPhone 5. I did not dare to further try this on my ipad 2 as I scare it will screw up the contacts I linked on my ipad.  Looks like there is a problem with Facebook contact sync on iOS. Has anyone encountered this problem?  

Why my music stop when I open Twitter App iPhone 3G

Every time i open up the twitter App my music thats playing stops.

speaker on my iphone 5 has stopped working. While using phone it would go on and off continuously. Now it's completely stopped working

I have owned my iphone 5 from new for about 7 months. The speaker has now stopped working completely.  It started yesterday with the speaker sounding slightly distorted when on full volume. It then worked intermittently during a handsfree single call on loudspeaker. If you tapped the back of the phone lightly, it would work again for a few seconds then stop working again. Also if i blew slightly in the speaker holes it would also come on for a few seconds.  Earphones work ok.  It has now stopped working completely. I have reset (power and home button for ten seconds). I have backed up using iTunes and restored the phone and the speaker is still not working.  Booked into Genius Bar.

Notification box doesn't go away after clicking Okay iPhone 5

Everytime I download, I log in and the blue notification box won't stop popping up about notifications so I have to restart phone and delete app to get the notification box to stop

iPhone 5 won't take charge

So a couple of weeks ago my iphone started acting up. *First the screen froze with the iCloud window open and it wouldn't respond. I couldn't text, call, or pretty much do anything. I fixed that by rebooting my phone by holding the home and power button for 12 seconds. Thanks to this community. **Then, the touch screen began to lag. I would try to unlock my phone or text, and the screen would take a couple of seconds before it would respond. Still does that but not as much. ***Next, the battery icon would not respond. I would plug it in to charge and it would show as charging, but the percentage number was not changing. It doesn't show if it would complete the full charge so I had to estimate the avarage time it used to take before it began to mess up. After I would unplug it, it would take a couple of hours to actually show the correct percentage of the battery. ****NOW - it won't charge at all. I am getting very frustrated and don't know how to fix this. I tried the wall charger, the car charger, my macbook, and even my ipad charger plug and none of them worked. It shows that it is plugged in just not charging. I took advantage of that and backed up my phone to my computer but now what do I do. It's not charging at all.  My next problem is that I can't take it to an Apple Store cause the closest one is 4 hours away so I have to take it to the AT&T store.  Is there anything else I can try before I take it to AT&T. Or what can I expect AT&T to do about it?  Luckily, I bought my iphone less than a year ago so that would mean it's under warranty, correct?  HELP!
