I own an iPhone 3G on firmware 2.2.1 5H11, and baseband 02.30.03. I am also with the carrier Mobinil EGY in Egypt. I own the original data cable (which is now almost completely torn in two) and a replacement cable, samsung iPhone earphones, and iLuv earphones, and the proper ultra-compact charger. However, I have noticed that whether I hook up my iPhone to my computer with either cable or to the wall with either cable, my iPhones chrome part exterior seems to zap me. I dont mean just a little static electricity, I mean an actual flow of electricity. When my iPhone is low on energy and I have to take a call while charging or I want to listen to music while charging, my iPhone actually hurts me, and it hurts me badly. It even eventually leaves marks. I really want to know if this happens to everyone, or if it just happens to me, or if it is a design flaw that has been fixed and if so, if I can get a new handset. iPhone 3G iPhone OS 2.x firmware 2.2.1 5H11, baseband 02.30.03, Carrier = Mobinil EGY
I restored my iphone 3g and now I cannot get it to turn on. All I get is the apple logo and then it shuts back off after about 10 seconds. If I plug it into a charger or the computer nothing happens except I see the apple logo for a few seconds and then it turns off. My computer doesnt even recognize that it is plugged in ever. imac Mac OS X (10.5.7)
Hi, Im having a rather severe issue with my iPhone. I woke up this morning and it was off. I had left it off the charger and assumed the battery was just dead. When I plugged it in, the Apple logo popped up then disappeared after a while. I wasnt really paying attention to it, so I didnt notice that it hadnt finished turning on.Now that Ive begun trying to use it, it wont go past the Apple logo, at all. Ive trying doing everything. I held down the power button an the home button at the same time to try to do a restore, and that didnt work. It keeps saying iPhone iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occured (23).I cant figure out what to do. Ive spend the last three hours trouble shooting online No Clue iPhone OS 3.0
Hello, I am long time apple fan/user. I bought an iphone 3 months ago. I really love this phone. I took very good care of the phone carrying it around like a baby making sure nothing happened to it. I upgraded to 3.0 and then a day later I upgraded to the new version of facebook. The update was taking a long time to load so I decided to cut the phone off and restart it. Once I cut the phone off, it would only come on and show the apple logo and cut back off. I took the phone to my local apple store. The guy at the store took the phone in back and return saying, the phone had water damage and the only option I had was to purchase a new phone. At no time have I dropped this phone in water, left in bathroom during a shower, carried in my pocket (I have case for belt), left in extreme temperatures, transport from cold/cool climate to hot, etc. How is it that I have water damage? After posting this dilemma on FB, I received several responses saying they had the same diagnosis for their iphone. Is there something that can be done to better equip these phones for the elements? Can a plastic cover be design to cover the port for the charger and insides ( like other phones have that snap into port)? Please give feedback. Has anyone else had this problem? Heres what happened:Every night before I go to bed, I charge my iPhone 3g. Last night I plugged it in to charge it,and I made sure that it saidmitnwas charging before I went to sleep. When I went to unplug it this morning, it said that the battery was only at 20% left. I checked the plug ( where usbplug plugs into wall adapter), and it wasnt fully plugged in. This is where it gets weird. I pushed the USB ug fully into the wall adapter, it came up saying it was fully charged, and I unplugged it from the wall outlet. I keep the charger in a place where myself or nothing else would have been able to unplug it. It seems to be working fine now, but this was really weird. It said it had only 20% battery life left, and then one second later it was fully charged.Plz help me! HP Windows Vista My computer *****
Since i did the update yesterday my battery is drained very fast even if its on stand by, 3g turned off, location service turned off, the phone is very hot and when i put it on charger the battery is shown in red color most of the time. Hi allI am purchasing an iphone 3gs when they come out and I wanted to get some accessories ahead of time such as a car charger, mains charger etc but wanted to ask if the connectors or method of charging is going to be the same. All of the accessories say fine for 3g but obviously not the 3gs yet. I assume they will be the same but is this definite?Thanksnick Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.5.7)

So, after a myriad of other problems and four previous iPhones (Im now on iPhone no. 5), the new one has developed a pretty annoying issue: I can get maybe 8 hours MAX of standby time before my phone shuts down. For the past several days, my phone has hit 50% battery less than 4 hours after being unplugged. Today, I unplugged my phone at 1 pm, and the battery was below 50% by 4 pm. Originally, I thought it might be my iHome that wasnt charging the phone properly, but last night I charged the phone using the USB charger that came with the phone and it received a full charge. I also tinkered with the settings including turning WiFi off completely (my work, where Ive been the last few days when the phone was acting up, has two wifi networks that I thought the phone might attempt to connect to), as well as switching the Push function to every 30 minutes instead of every 15. Nothing has helped though. I have noticed that the phone has been getting warm to the touch when asleep, but thats pretty much it.Basically, the phone has been in my pocket when this has been occurring, and Ive been at work. (meaning no real use besides the occasional email check in the bathroom) Its been a little warm the last few days, but Im not sure if that would cause the battery to drain so quickly.Do you guys think that this merits yet another trip to the Apple store to get iPhone replacement no. 6? Ok here is my story. I have the lattest iphone update and ive been getting along with it great intil today when the battery was in the red and i plugged in my charger and nothing happened. The phone eventually went flat and i thought R.I.P iphone. Long shot but...... Im cycle touring NW Scotland and central and eastern france this summer. The multi-media iphone is greatly appealing. I was hoping to use one for the email and mapping features. I have had this happen twice and neither time had time to post about it. Has anyone ever experienced this besides me? Ive gone through two cords already and want to make sure I document it here as well.Basically my cord that connects the iPhone to the computer or to the charger via USB tears in a clean circle all the way around shearing at the spot where the thin rubber cable meets the last 1/4 inch of wider rubber connecting the rubber cord to the plastic adapter that attaches to the phone. When the shearing crack occurs, you wind up with silver metal wiring exposed in that small crack, which seems a hazard because you are bringing in electricity to the phone through the cord especially when charging. Therefore the two times it happened I asked for a replacement. I ended up getting it at the ATT store because trying to do it over the phone with Apple resulted in a demand for my credit card number which I do not give out lightly. I was also aggravated that though theyd heard of the problem they nonetheless did not take my word for it and still demanded my credit card number. I pointed out that some other vendors do not do that. For instance when my XM radio or my XM antenna extension had problems, the companies involved had me send back the item and sent me a replacement without demanding a credit card. I cant really go without the charger for a few days but I almost would have rather had the option of sending the cord back FIRST and waiting for the replacement than having to give out a credit card number, on principle to protect my privacy. But I was not offered that option.Apple is so demanding on such issues and so thoughtless in not realizing its their fault and doesnt make me want to stay their customer that its got me considering other phones later on instead of this brand. Especially since my previous phone, a Nokia, at least included a video cam. And other brands allow people to copy and paste text.Just registering the torn rubber USB cable defect report here in case others have experienced it. When I did a search in the forum on USB cord I did not find anything but probably should have tried to write the search a few more ways.I will try to make sure in the future I never pick the phone up by the cable in case that contributed to the tear. I dont think I did that but I cant absolutely rule it out either. iPhone 3G

Hi,The charger wire that comes with the 3gIphone, if the white rubber that covers the internal wiring is coming off, is that bad? my wire, the end which you connect into the computer or into the wall adapter, that section the white rubber is coming off for some reason and i can see the wires inside, is it still safe to use?
I will be receiving a 3g phone tomorrow. I have a question concerning chargers. Will the charger I have for my iPod Classic video 30GB work with the iPhone 3g?? Windows XP
So, last night I left my phone on the charger and when I woke up this morning to check the time my lock screen showed up but it wouldnt let me unlock my phone. I unplugged it from the charger and tried again and this time my screen stays black. I plugged it into the charger again, still nothing, then I plug it into my computer and nothing still, though it did sync my iPhone.. I thought it was a strange that it would still sync my phone so I called it (from my house phone) and it didnt go straight to voice mail like it would do if it was off. My iPhone on the other hand did nothing..Getting frustrated at this point I just flat out restored the original settings, and now it seems to be working again.. What Im really wondering is what the heck I did to make it do this in the first place, so it doesnt happen again. :/ Ive only had the phone for about a month now. (Dunno if thatll help but whatever.)

iphone 3g worked charged perfectly before synchronizing to macbook pro. Now it will only charge when the laptop is running, not through wall charger - yes, I tried every outlet in the house as well, same result. I am pretty sure this is user error, thanks for the suggestions.
In the last two weeks, sometimes I got to bed and the iPhone battery is about half charged. When I wake, it is down to 10% just from lying on my nightstand.Last night, went to sleep after looking at something on iPhone and noticed battery was a little over half charged. Woke up this morning with a message saying it was down to 10%. I plugged it in for a while, and it did not seem to charge much. It stayed low all day. This evening I was driving home and it was plugged into my car charger for about a half hour. Got home, still in the red area. Came in the house, plugged into my computer and it immediately went from being red at about 10-20% to being over half charged.I got my iPhone on release day, this is a new issue I have run into with it. hey ppl,how are things?i bought a new iphone 3g 5 months ago with the 2.2 firmware on it and it was working perfectly, during the recent month my iphone started to get stuck once in a few days and i had to RESET it with the home+power button, and it would go stright up again like it should.well, two days ago i was walking in the street and took the iphone out from the pocket and saw that the screen is all black! i tried to press the home button and it stayed black, tried to close it and reopen and still, no comment from the iphone, so i pressed the home+power button and a white flash came on the screen with the sound of the camera and since then the phone is stuck on black screen and wont recieve calls and sms and nothing.i went back home and charged the phone for about 2 hours using usb charger that connect to the wall and then connected it to itunes and saw that it is connecting to itunes like always and i tried to restore using restore in itunes (i agreed to the update)the restore process got stuck and kept going for about an hour so i stopped and unplugged it.when i pressed the power button i recieved the cable logo that means that i need to reconnet it with itunes, so i did and i got the same iphone need to be restored message, so i plugged it in on another computer with a fresh version of itunes and restored it with shift+restore and the 2.2 version ipa that i downloaded, the restore process went ok and i saw the apple logo with the bar being filled and itunes announced that the restore process was succesfull and the phone screen gave me the black screen that comes during the restore process, so of course i was very happy and relieved that the iphone is ok but then i tried to turn it on and all i got is that black screen again.i am very upset and really frostrated that i know the screen is ok (it gave me the cable screen) and the phone is ok (itunes can recognize and restore it) but i cant turn it on..plz help me, i really searched everywhere and spent like 15 hours with no dring or eat (im serious) trying to fix it...i will appreciate every opinion about this topic, anything can helpthanks

Hi, i got my iphone for about 2 months now. Everything works fine, never droped it, have a case on and everything. But today i took off my case, and was cleaning the phone. I was shaking it up and down to get some little bits out of the charger plug port on the bottom. I hear something loose inside. I was wondering if any of you are having this issue? Or is it just my phone. Thanks.. Windows Vista
I had posted this back in December when my previous black iphone had overheated, Im assuming some application continued to run and drained the battery, and developed a crack by the vibrate switch. That phone was replaced for me in January with another black phone. Well, just yesterday the same thing happened to this phone. It had been fully charged and in sleep when I woke it and immediately saw the screen warning to connect to power and also noticed the phone was extremely warm. Again Im assuming some application didnt shut off and drained the battery causing the phone to heat up. So I shut it down and connected it to the charger and went to work. I checked the phone after work and everything was working properly but I noticed a crack at the vibrate switch in exactly the same spot as the phone it replaced.I know there had been other threads and issues involving cracks in the casing but not sure whether theyre related to my issue or not but there is a definite link to the phone overheating and then developing cracks. Im disappointed that this has happened again but Im not going to take it in to Apple, even if it were replaced the odds are it would occur again at some point. I believe the plastic casing is susceptible to some kind of heat expansion and subsequent cracking. With a new iphone rumored for the summer I may look at that, I just hope that they will use a different material for the case. Macbook Pro 15" 2.0 1gig ram, Intel iMac Mac OS X (10.5.6) 1G, 2G

So my screen randomly just went black. When i plugged it into my charger the screen came back and I was able to check my email but as soon as it locked it went black again and now when I plug it in it stays black and just makes the noise. I have recieved text, email, and phone calls and all that happens is I hear the noise but the screen stays black even when i slide my finger across. Is there anyway this can be fixed or do I have to make an appointment at the apple store???
No, I didnt steal a phone. I was given this phone by a friend who works at a major hotel chain and it has sat in their lost & found for several months. The phone had no sim card and couldnt be powered on so instead of it ending its life in the dumpster... I have it.Now Im trying to figure out if it has any value at all or if it will find its end in my kitchen trash. The phone sat in a car ipod charger for 4 hours and didnt power on. I stuck my att sim card in, same no power. The phone looks in good condition, says its a 8mb 3g iphone and it seems very brick like right now... thats all I know.Plus, Ive never owned one, so Im clueless.Thoughts?(not close to an apple store to go ask them) MACPRO Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have an iPhone 3G. Im doing a camping trip this summer for about 10 days and Im trying to find a cell phone charger that can charge without a car/wall outlet/computer etc. I read some reviews on CNET for crank chargers and they didnt seem reasonable. Im not interested in spending money on a solar power charger (they dont seem that great either...) unless I absolutely have to.Anybody out there tried any they found that worked? Hello All,Sorry if this is posted somewhere else, I did a quick search and it didnt seem like the people who have posted before are having the EXACT issue Im having, however there have been similar posts. What started happening with my phone today, is while it is plugged into the charger, the battery indicator in the top right indicates the phone is done charging, while the large icon in the center of the screen is still red, showing only 10 % of the battery, and showing no indication of charging. I had the phone plugged into my wall outlet for 2 hours. When I unplugged it and walked into my kitchen, I got the message that battery at 10 %. I thought this was just a bug, so I reset the phone by holding the power button and the home button. Once the phone rebooted, the battery indicator still displayed only 10 % power remaining. I thought perhaps my wall charger had gone bad (doubtful, since the battery indicators were changing when it was plugged in) so I tried charging it on my macbook pro. I have the same results here. I dont understand whats going on with the battery, this is a warranty replacement model, less than 2 months old, and this is the first time i experienced this issue. When I get home later this afternoon Im going to try a full restore if I dont have a solution by then, but I dont have time to do it now before I leave. Anybody who is having this issue, or has some suggestions or ideas as to what might cause it I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.4) iPhone 3G 16gb (White)

The iPhones biggest limitation is arguably its battery. So what tips and tricks do you use to get the most out of it. Weve all seen Apples suggestions: http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.htmlBut what other ideas are out there to get the most out of your battery? Ill start with a couple:Understand Li-ion technology by reading up on it. Heres a couple of good sites: http://batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li-ionApple correctly points out that heat degrades Li-ions, so keep the batt. cool and out of a case when charging or under heavy use. But interestingly, what they dont mention is that storage at 100% charge degrades Li-ions even faster than heat (see charts at both above sites). So the least amount of time the battery is fully charged, the better. If you typically plug your iphone in every night before you go to bed, then youre likely at full charge for 1/3 to 1/2 of the batteries life. So what I do to reduce this time is hook my charger up to a $10 light timer that only provides juice to the charger between 6am and 8am, just before I leave the house and start using the phone. I still plug in before I go to bed, but the phone spends most of night at partial charge and only gets topped up just before I intend to use it. What other tips/tricks do you guys have? Macbook Pro, 3G Mac OS X (10.4.11)
From what Ive read, most people seem to have issues with the iPhone battery. I must say that my excitement over this phone has waned a bit due to the lack of battery life with my phone. I got the phone three days ago, and of course, the first day was spent playing and thereby draining the battery. I decided to test things a bit and wanted to see how long I could go without charging the phone. Last night, I fully charged it and unplugged it about 10:30 at night. In the lat 14 hours Ive played bejeweled once, used google maps briefly, checked my email, checked facebook once and sent a text. After only 12 hours of standby and about 2 hours of usage, the battery was at 20%. Wi-fi is off, 3G is off, brightness is turned down and my email is being pushed, because well, thats what I wanted the phone for (I switched from a Blackberry to the iPhone).Im just shocked to know that I wont be able to go a day without charging the phone. What if I am traveling and want to play on it? I rely on Google maps many days when Im out and about and that seems to suck the life straight out of the battery. It would seem the only options are to buy an aftermarket charger booster (or whatever theyre called) for the times Im not in the car or dont have a plug or computer available. Are there any recommendations from anyone?? Besides shutting everything off of course. Is my situation what everyone else is experiencing or should I be getting more life from my battery?? iPhone 3G

And this is despite the fact that AT&T does not yet offer 3G in my service area.Battery life has been poor (relatively to the other phone I was using), but not horrible. If I do some minimal adjustments to my setting/use (mainly turning off wi-fi except when I am near a known wireless network) and watch my usage slightly (i.e. check e-mail every few hours instead of every few minutes), I can go between 2 and 3 days before my battery gets low enough that it concern me.That said, if Im really using it (surfing, mapping, using GPS or whatever), youre talking more like a single work day and Im usually wanting to make sure to get in on the charger before I go to bed. I have yet to get to the point where Im worried about batteries running out before the end of the work day; well at least not so early that I am worried Ill run out if I make some simple adjustments regarding power usage.Anyway, wanted to let everyone know there is at least one user who is more than happy with his iPhone 3G. Right now I figure in a couple of months (when we will supposedly get 3G coverage), Ill get a performance boost at no additional cost; albeit at a cost to my batteries. Since Im overall very happy with the phones performance, I figure the (presumably) faster 3G communications will be a bonus since my monthly cost wont change. (And, while I specifically asked when we were supposed to get 3G coverage, it did not impact my purchase decision. Okay, if they had said it would be years . . . .)If it makes any difference to anyone, I have delayed upgrading to version 2.whatever (which is probably causing some problems) and also my iTunes version. This may have prevented/eliminated problems that others are experiencing. I can say I havent experienced any of the problems that other users are complaining about (not that I think they arent). Everything has worked like a charm and the only problems I have encountered can be chalked up to operator error. (Thought I was having a no ring - right to voicemail problem until I realized I had inadvertently flipped the no ring/vibrate switch which caused me to miss a call from my brother when I was in the tub with the phone sitting nearby.)Ill leave you with that image and the fact that there is a least one user who is more than happy with his new iPhone 3G.jch iMac Mac OS X (10.5.6) and other macs
