I got a low battery warning and the iPhone finally died on me during a phonecall. Now I cant switch it back on, neither reset it.I hooked it up to the charger (not the computer), from what I gather the computer cant recharge it after the battery is that low.Any ideas, secret button combinations or other voodoo suggestions to get it back to life? Thanks a bunch! On 24Dec2008, I decided to do a handset upgrade with Vodafone (in Australia, we have mobile phone contracts, and to keep you with them the telcos will offer deals if you sign for another 24 months) to get a 16Gb iPhone 3G.I took it home, plugged it into the AC charger, then I plugged it into my laptop.Nothing. The Apple Logo appeared on the iPhone screen, but (the latest version of) iTunes didnt open, and my computer (a Windows XP OS) did not recognise that a device had been plugged in. I changed USB ports, to no avail. I got my sons iPod Nano, plugged it in, and recognised immediately.I went online, saw lots of hints and tips, and tried them (including holding the Off and Home buttons until the device turns off), still nothing. An important note - I have not attempted any hacks - I am quite happy to use the iPhone on my Vodafone network. So my Christmas was ruined.I took the phone to my local Vodafone dealer, only to be told I had to take it to the dealer that I got it from. I took it to the Apple shop, and after he moaned about people buying Apple products from somewhere else and expecting Apple to support it, he at least tried to initialise it for me. No luck.So I rang the place that I got it from (they are about 70 km away from where I live, so I wasnt going to drive to them for no reason), and they said they would order me a new one. It is now the 7th of January, and they are telling me maybe next week.Is my iPhone truly dead, or is there a secret thing I havent tried yet? I am almost ready to go get a Blackberry Storm. My excitement at getting an iPhone has evaporated. My first experience with Apple, and it was sh*t. iPhone 3G Windows XP
Nothing happens when my 2G iPhone is plugged in, either to the charger or the USB connection on my Mac Pro. Ive changed wires,; same problem. Ive tested other devices in the USB ports; they work. When I plug the iPhone into the USB connection, nothing happens, nothing. It doesnt turn on, sync, turn off if on, no noise, nothing. The same symptoms when I plug the iPhone into the charger that uses a separate wire plugged into the charger in a different location. Ive noticed this getting worse till now when absolutely nothing happens when plugged in. Previously, repeatedly plugging and unplugging resulted in both a charging and sync connection, depending on where plugged. Is this a phone hardware issue or am I doing something wrong? I found a lot of references to car charges & the iPhone, but nothing specifically on the older Monster charger. Mine has the dock connection for an iPod and a mini audio input. I bought it when the 4G iPods were the current model. It works with my 4G & video iPods, but I would like to know if anyone has used it with the 3G iPhone? Not overly concerned about playing audio, want it primarily to charge my iPhone. Thought it best to check before I give it a try. Thanks for the info.Larry 17" MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5)
Happy new year everyone.I spilt coffee all over the cable that came with my iPhone and am loath to plug it back in - in case it upsets the iPhone. Is it OK to use the cable and USB adapter that came with my 5th Generation iPod (late 2006)?The exact model is listed below.I really need to be sure this is going to be OK before I plug it in. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#ipodfifth2I just need to be able to charge it until I can get to the store. The wife doesnt like earbuds and wont learn bluetooth (sigh).I looked at this: http://www.amazon.com/Premium-Transmitter-transmitter-charger-Protector/dp/B001KPV12UI looks like a possibility but does anyone know if it switches to hands free car speakers if youre NOT listening to the required FM station? I need something that she can use for handsfree phone calls when shes listening to regular AM/FM radio, NOT the iPhone.Im really just looking for a hands free option for her to use the phone. If anyone has an option that doesnt include earbuds or bluetooth, Im all ears. Thanks all. MacPro 3gig Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Plugged my charger into the computer to sync something. It normally brings up iTunes when I connect them. iTunes didnt pop up like usual. Put the charger in a wall socket and connected the phone and the green charger prompt does not come on the screen. What am I doing wrong? I have made sure everything is in the correct sockets. I have not dropped the phone, never use it near water... 3 day old phone and it is already malfunctioning. Dell Inspiron 1526 Windows XP

OK, im about 90% sure theres nothing more I can do to improve my battery life on my iphone 3G, but Im looking for some other peoples input before I go way out of my way to go to the apple store, which is about an hour drive (dont have an address that i could use the mailing method ... so thats not an option)Heres my current setup:Hardware: iphone 3G, running iPhone 2.2 OS3G: off- not in a 3G enabled cityWifi: off (on when web surfing at home- not frequent as I use my laptop...)Location services: Off, unless im using Maps to get somewhere (rare)Email: Push is activated on my MobileMe account, turned off my work MS Exchange account entirely (would like to have it on) and my third email is turned off as well. MobileMe: syncs contacts, bookmarks, calendar, and mail. Third Party Apps: a few installed, use is not frequent- maybe 10 min a day average.Bluetooth: off 99% of the time, only on when traveling and using headset.brightness: 25-30% as an attempt to conserve batteryEQ: offI went to this link: http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html and as you can see with the aforementioned statistics Im doing everything to conserve battery, except disabling push.Battery Performance:Usage: 1 hour 34 minutesStandby 7 hours, 38 minutesBattery: just above 20% (not red, but very close to it)The above data was taken after applying all the settings listed above, resetting the phone, then draining the battery completely and fully charging it using the iphone cable and usb wall charger included with the iPhone. Received only 2 emails, and 1 text message during the usage time. With these settings my phone made it a full day with out dying, with normal consumer settings (wifi on, location services on but used little, etc) my battery would last about 4-5 hours with the same amount of Usage.Basically, im looking for affirmation so I dont drive way out of my way and wait in line for hours to be told that there is nothing that they can do with my phone..My previous iPhone (2G) would last 3-4 days sometimes without being recharged and it had push enabled on 2 email addresses (MM, and MS Exchange) My wife currently uses this phone w/ 2 emails, location services on, and uses 3rd party apps a lot and her phone battery lasts 2 days still..New battery time?-thanks Macbook, MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.6)
iPhone (NOT a 3G) was working fine when I went to bed last night, put it on the charger (did not power off) and this morning I had no signal. Tried it in different areas of the house went outside and was unable to get a signal, shutting it off and repowering several times. Tried resyncing the phone, since sometimes thatll get out a bug in my phone, No change. Repowered, no change. Reset network settings, did not work. Repowered, no change. Finally did a restore as a last ditch effort and see no other tricks I could try, that also did not work. I kept getting the waiting for activation, this may take awhile screen. Left it for about an hour, no change. Did a full restore AGAIN, Im no longer getting the waiting for activation screen, but it just says Searching where the signal bars should be. Ive had this phone for about a year and never had this problem. Any suggestions? I did take the sim card out to see if that would work and had no luck. Anyone got any ideas? Windows Vista
I have searched around for an emergency battery unit for the iPhone as the battery life is so poor. Can anyone recommend one after actually using one ? I know the white Cult Gadget one on eBay. Has anyone used this one ? does it work ? I dont care about recharging the iPhone to 100%. The wish is for it to charge and maintain power enough to operate the iPhone until the next opportunity to recharge.I have also seen the Black Desktop Charging Cradle Plus Emergency charger that the iPhone slides into. I was listening to music while my phone was locked and continually pressed the home button (every couple of minutes or so) just to change the song, but never unlocked it. Then, it stopped letting me press the home button to view the screen. Now, the screen is totally black and nothing happens if i press the home button or any button at all. Its still on because i still hear the noise when people text or call me, but still the same black screen. Ive tried charging it through the wall charger and even hooked it up to my computer, but still nothing. What can I do to fix this? iPhone 3G

I was charging my iPhone with a 3rd party charging device for the whole night but the battery indicator went from green when I started, to red when I checked it in the morning (I was still using the cable that came with the iPhone, if that makes a difference). The battery indicator in the top right corner showed the lightning symbol but the iPhone still wasnt charging.I am now charging it through my Macbook and it works fine.Is there actually a difference that I dont know about that doesnt allow me to charge my iPhone with normal iPod chargers? I have an Apple-produced wall charger which is basically a three pin wall plug with a USB socket to plug the iPhone in to charge. This worked fine until a few days ago and now does not work at all.Is this becuase now we cannot use firewire to charge the phones? I thought the charger was USB based - any ideas how I can charge the phone from the wall plugs (as my computer is usually off, also I often need to charge the phone at work from a wall socket). Is there any kind of compatible wall charger? This is very annoying as it worked fine - why do Apple have to change things and mess everything up? I assume they downloaded this change to my phone when I downloaded the latest 2.2 version.
Hey guys,Well, I finally upgraded to the new 3G iPhone. Ive been a current 2G iPhone user for over a year, and thought Id upgrade and take advantage of the 3G service. Anyway, I absolutely love it so far. Its definitely quicker than the Edge service. Overall Im very happy, but I do have a couple of questions regarding the new phone.1. Can I use my existing power bug wall charger from my 2g iPhone to charge the phone?2. Will the 2G iPhone car charger work for the 3G iPhone?3. What should I do with my existing 2G iPhone? Its in great shape, and works fine, but I really no longer have a need for it.Well, thanks for all of your help!JeffP.s. Do you guys think Apple is going to release another new iPhone in July again this year? Dell Windows XP
I think this started two days ago when my iPhone ran out of batteries for the first time since I got it in September. I charged it overnight and it began to work normally again. Yesterday I was using an application (NY Times application) on the phone and it just turned itself off. I turned it back on, went back to using the application and it turned itself off again, so I thought the problem was the application. I turned it back on and used Safari and again the iPhone just turned off. After this time when I pressed the On button the apple would show as if the phone was starting up and then it would turn off again. After doing this three times or so the apple stopped showing. I put the phone to charge even though it had almost full batteries and it started showing the apple again, but it turned itself off afterwards. I left it at the charger and in two or three hours I went to get the phone and it turned on normally. While using it later at night to check my email, the phone turned itself off again, and afterwards the apple startup appeared before the phone once again turned off. I went back to the charger left it there and the apple startup appeared and the phone turned itself off again. Then it wouldnt do anything when I held the On button. I went to bed thinking that leaving it to charge would do the trick. This morning the phone wont respond to anything, nor the charger, nor the computer, nor the On button. I have no idea whats wrong with it because its in perfect condition, and its always worked perfectly. What should and what could I do?Thanks in Advance!Luiz P
Ive got my iphone 3G (that I purchased in the US) in India right now. The GPS doesnt seem to work very well...it thinks Im in North carolina. My dads blackberry storm is picking up his exact location no problem with maps. Any idea if the iphone gps should work in India? They sell the iPhone here...and I dont imagine the manufacure different hardware. OK, so my iPhone went to sleep this morning. I had just checked email and set it down. I picked it back up about 2 minutes later and the screen wouldnt come on when I pressed the Home button. I figured I may have turned it off. Turns out I didnt because I could neither turn it on or off. I decided to plug it in, just to see if that did anything. As soon as I connected it to the charger, I heard the camera shutter sound. I was then immediately able to unlock my screen and found that it took a picture of the charging screen. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Should I be alarmed? iMac 24inch Mac OS X (10.5.4) iPhone 3G

Hello, Ive noticed this several times before but today was a really good example. I was on Amtrak with my phone plugged into the AC outlet watching streaming video over 3G in the train. After about 45 minutes my battery was almost completely drained - it was at 100% when I started. I had the icon on the phone that showed the phone was plugged into AC, but yet the battery still discharged. In my office I have a similar problem. I have an iPhone compatible Sony clock radio. The clock radio is supposed to charge the phone. The battery will sometimes drain while I am listening to music streaming over 3G - however not as quickly as on the train today! Is there something wrong with my phone? If not is it a bug? Is there a more powerful charger available that wont allow the battery to drain? Thanks 3G Windows Vista
Searched the forums and seen posts about charging issues but cant find any relating to my particular problem. My French 3G iPhone is about 6 weeks old and a few weeks ago it stopped charging from wallsockets and any other peripherals (iPod car charger, Denon hifi with Dock) It charges OK from my macbook, work PC and PC laptop. Any ideas? Ive done the full iPhone reset twice and still no joy.Its becoming a pain because it means I have to always travel with a laptop just to charge the thing! macbook
Hi!After a night when my iPhone fully ran out of battery and shut down, I connected it to the charger. The apple logo turns up and a few seconds later it just turns off again. I cant start it fully. With the charger connected, the apple logo turns up, without the charger connected it doesnt even start at all. No response when I plug it in to either of my computers (both Macs and PCs).Also when the charger is connected, the battery charging symbol does not appear. But the situation described me very upset. Now, I bought the iPhone 3G, and now application iPod as well does not work, but also charge now is not! So that my invested money in the music disappeared. Please correct these two problem. How can I make the adapter? If I simply remove the power to pin 19 and 20, it will help eliminate the problem with charging? Why did my google maps stop staying awake when I have it hooked up to power in my car, after 2.2...I recently got an iPhone 3G and started to use it to help me keep track of traffic on my way to work and home in my car. At first I used it with out a power cord, but about 3 weeks ago I got a car charger cable for it, and a holder thing. I was pleased to find that when I have the power connected and google maps open the phone did not auto lock, it just dimmed the screen, I could tap once and glance at the phone and see my location vs the traffic colors and make choices on the fly about what way to go.Now, after 2.2, it almost never stays awake when maps is running and power is plugged in...At first i thought I had figured out how to get it to work as I have grown to expect it to. plug in the power first then run Maps, but as of yesterday evening that proved to not work.there should be an option in Maps to let us choose to keep the phone from locking if it has external power, its VERY much more unsafe in my opinion to make it so people have to mess with unlocking the phone when they want to check traffic again. And, its also much slower to reacquire your current location rather than just un-dim the screen and see. also, the same day as 2.2 came out, and even before I installed it, I noticed that google maps started to have real issues loading map data... I cant find anywhere else on the website to report this other than feedback. Ive got a faulty ultracompact USB charger (post-recall) and I wanted to submit an online request to get it replaced. I go through all of the steps, accept the terms and conditions, and I get to a page with 3 steps, the first of which is Avoid being without your iPhone or accessory in which I select continue. Below this section is 2. Describe the issue. When I click continue, the troubleshooting tips in step 1 disappear and I cant go any further. Nothing appears under any of the steps and I cannot click any buttons to continue.Ive tried many different browsers and computers. Ive even tried on a different network in the event that its my connection. I also tried a different Apple account and that didnt make any difference. When I put in the serial number for my iPod, I dont have any issues. However, it would seem to me that there is a programming glitch for the iPhone support. Anyone have any insight? Does anyone know how I can get through to Apple to get them to fix this? Hello, I am using a BMW iPod car adapter for 2 years now, also I have a Harman/Kardon bridge for the iPod. Both play the music to either to car radio or the hifi system AND charge the iPod. That worked until my iPhone 3G, since its only playing the music, but not charging it. I went to a store and tested these mini stereo systems from JBL, Bose, Yamaha and others and there the same: playing the music as usual, but not charging the iPhone 3G. I then tried to see what happens with a iPod Touch: it played and charged both. So I assume it has something to do with the 3G itself.Even my old car charger does not charge the iPhone 3G anymore. The phone always says: no supported equipment. Did anybody encounter similar problems? Thanks XP Windows XP Germany

Most of the time, my iPhone sits in the 3G dock and charges and syncs and is happy. The lightning icon in the battery shows it is charging, and when full it goes to the power plug. But if the battery gets too low, less than 10% charge, then it will connect and start charging, but after a minute or two it stops and there is no icon (lightning or plug) just a battery indicator (on phone and iTunes). This has happened a few times, and Ive now worked out the occasions, and my theory is that the phone is going into a power-save mode to retain more power, and thereby shutting down the charging mechanism too. To get it to work again, I have to put it into another computers charger, let it charge to 50% or so, and then it will work fine in my dock.Id welcome hearing if anyone else has had this, and any solutions.(For technical info, this is Windows XP Pro, latest iTunes and iPhone software, direct USB connection, rebooting the PC doesnt fix it.) Hello,Im interested in getting a car kit for my Iphone and I need your advices, opinions. I looked around but heard of some people having trouble with either the charger not charging, or damaging the Iphone, or badly designed holders with too short cables and so forth.I need it to have the following:Windshield mount (suction cup) (able to hold the Iphone horizontally)cigarette lighter charger (long enough cable, I think I saw one with a very short cable, dont know why)Do not need blue tooth, its ok to put the phone on speaker.the holder must not obstruct the headset output as Im using an audio cable with my car stereo.Thank you very much.

Got home, try plugging into the charger, nothing happens. Tried connecting it to the iMac, and nothing happens! It wont turn on!Any suggestions? And..if I have to take it in, do I have to wait two days for an appointment with the genius bar, or can I just show up tomorrow morning when the store opens and get someone to look at it? This is my second iPhone. Had to return the first one for a variety of problems so they swapped it out for this one, which Ive had for a couple of months and its worked flawlessly. Until tonight. Sigh. Mac OS X (10.4.11)
I have a Blitzsafe iPhone/iPod interface in my car. I dont drive the car very often (2005 Saleen) but it has always been able to charge in the past, both with my original iPhone and my 3G. Yesterday I took the car out, plugged in the connector and the phone popped up and said that it will not charge with this accessory and asked if I wanted to go into airplane mode (which it has always asked). Now, I have to unplug the iPhone from the stereo in order to charge it (assuming my InCharge Auto charger from XtremeMac will still charge).Anyone know why Apple has disabled charging, and if they might re-enable it?
