Sync only checked songs and video iPhone

The Help file for iTunes on Syncing media with iPhone has the following entry: Click the tabs (Music, Photos, and so on) and select the items you want to sync.To sync only certain items, click Summary, select “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox, and then click the other tabs and select the items you want to sync. I am confused about this because the “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox seems redundant in the following sense. Even if this checkbox is NOT selected, iTunes allows me to select the items I want to sync under each tab.If the “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox is NOT selected, then under the Music tab, for example, I would rather expect NOT to be able to select particular items to sync. Can anyone explain this? Crashing apps and safari iPhone 3G

I think I may have found a breakthrough (maybe not on everyone elses part becase there may be some other discussion similar to this, but on my part I have) Here are some things Im noticing about crashes of apps on my iPhone 3G:1. Its usually a larger app2. It is usually one that is graphics heavy and text light3. It ALWAYS happens when another app is doing something in the background (ie. iPod playing, mail pushing from server, text message recieved, etc.)4. Crashes are Most common with social networking apps (myspace mobile, facebook)Here are some things Im noticing about safari carshes:1. Picture heavy site such as a failblog.org, etc.2. Same as #3 for apps. Anyone care to comment on or answer why this is happening? I get the graphics heavy and picture heavy stuff but not the social network apps, and I understand why the mail push or iPod could do it, but why hasnt apple fixed it yet? HP Windows XP

How I install backup to restored iPhone 3G

I know it sounds like a very basic question, but it does get a little tricky. To give you a quick run down of the situation: I am leaving the country tomorrow, and my iphone is locked to my carrier. I have phoned them and they said it would take up to 10 working days before my phone became unlocked, upon which I would have to restore my iPhone through iTunes for this to take effect (and losing all my data in the process). So obviously I am going to be overseas when this happens, so what I would like to do (and hopefully this is possible) is take a backup of my iPhone before I go and put that on a USB stick, and then load it onto another computer for when I go to restore my iPhone overseas. To put it in basic terms: Can I tranfer a backup to another computer and use it to restore my iPhones data? And would would I lose, if anything, in the process? (Im assuming my music and other media will be gone?) iPhone 3G

I am migrating from a Palm device (Tungsten C) on which I use a 3rd-party database application to hold private records of passwords, account numbers, family social security numbers, website logon info, health info, etc. This database resides on the Palm, and it is fully password protected, even when it is backed up to a Mac or PC. With password protection off, the database can be turned into tab-delimited fields and records for easy editing in Excel. Apple supports Homosexual marriage-Goodbye Apple iPhone

To Apple and Mr Jobs,I have been a supporter of apple for about 3 or 4 years now, like the operating system, the product design and its innovative improvements to both aspects of its output. Ive recently spent the most I ever have on computer hardware after a successful period, purchasing a 30 inch display for the MBP I use, a macbook air and an iphone. I had become almost intoxicated with the company, and was not disappointed with the new products. However, what I was dishearten and disappointed at one morning was one of the news feeds delivered to my inbox. Apparently Apple are now actively supporting homosexual marriage and are using funds they have made to advance this cause. I believe that marriage is a sacred between a man and a woman, for the purpose of bringing children, naturally into the world. It is a Holy covenant ordained by God and affirmed biologically for this purpose. Those who engage in same sex relationships are violating our natural and sacred design, which is clearly the of male and female organs in a sexual nature. Anything outside of that is sodomy, which is essentially a violation of another body, regardless of their willing submission, for ones own pleasure and abuse. The fact that you Mr Jobs and Apple, are now towing the line of this popular morally blind crusade of deceitful equality seeking, should I suppose, be of no real surprise. It seems the value of respect, decency and sex has been reduced and almost erased from western culture. I have no problem with people who label themselves gay, but if they practice what their **** entails, then they are violating natural and sacred laws and orders. To do this willfully, without any regret or conscience, actually in pride, brings great social and spiritual degeneration. The fact that you seem so blind to this amazes me.I object to any funds from products I purchase going towards a cause I disagree with and think is morally corrupt and perverted. The promotion of illicit sodomy relationships as decent and right under the banner of marriage, is really appalling in my view. It is essentially thumbing your nose at the great system programmer of this universe, and saying we know you created an awesome system of architecture here, but we think this virus should have equal status and meritYes I would compare God to the Master programmer of these myriad genetic and bio-mechanical systems we have and are, the originator of that intangible and unknown consciousness/spirit within. And I would compare degenerate practices to a virus upon our society. We do not heal a virus by funding and encouraging it, we have to recognize the correct way the system should function and rewrite the code.Which analogously would be repentance of abusive lusts and violence, and a return in humility to holiness, purity, and goodness. What should two same sex who are consenting do if they desire each other? They should recognize that not every desire or thought we have merits or justifies expression. Many thoughts that come can be depraved and violent, it is our choice whether to act upon them, perpetuate them, or reject them as not right and harmful. We were not designed by God or nature to conduct ourselves sexually with the same gender. The acts which ensue from such desires are counter to what is natural, holy, and respectful in our own better judgment and conscience. The argument is usually put forth, if you are not harming anyone its OK, but the reality is a great deal of harm is occurring under the surface and is not recognized. Not only on a Spiritual level for those who believe, but also on a social cultural level. Family breakdown, promiscuity, thoughts, lifestyles spread throughout society like wildfire, and in a liberal society that loses all sense of balance and proportion, an anything goes alternative lifestyle becomes normal. As soon as you devalue sex and marriage, remove God from the equation, then anything goes, and the alternative community is at the forefront of this social motion, it has intertwined with heterosexuals also and now the programming system of order marriage has been essentially broken as all respect has gone. The purpose of marriage is the covenant commitment and bond between the male and the female to further life, creation and human beings. We are designed biologically for that function and it is essential that we respect our design. Respect is a central part of love, if we do not respect our design, and seek to violate it, in order to fulfill base lusts then it is not love. We are to love our fellow man, and woman are to love their fellow sisters, but as soon as **** arises in these cases, all respect and love is gone. It becomes purely a love for the flesh and not a love for the soul, personality and being. Why? Because if there was LOVE between the same sex, they would respect each-others natural design and order and not want to violate and sodomize each-other, regardless of the willingness of the person.Trying to dress up sodomy relationships as legitimate and right by honoring them with the term marriage is very misguided and shameful.I might have know that the bitten apple logo was an atheistic reference to the tree of knowledge and satan.I wont be buying another apple product again. I wish that you wake up to holiness and Spirituality and what is right and true. The earthly physical life is but a blip, what matters is the destiny of our eternal Soul and Spirit, and that choice is in our own hands. We need to repent, humble ourselves, turn from our degenerate ways and sincerely walk in a new light of goodness, holiness and love.I no longer am happy to be associated with Apple and I would encourage anyone else with decency to take a stand against Apples active support of gay marriage and boycott any further product purchases.

Ive just about had enough. My 1st-gen iPhone keeps crashing. Ive restored, contacted customer service through both Apple and AT&T, but I keep getting the corporate runaround. I enter my MobileMe account under settings, and it freezes. One day I can access my music, the next, it says theres no media on my iphone...Any help for these problems would be much appreciated. Im a few days away from ditching the stupid thing.Am I the only one who thinks this is getting ridiculous? I plunked down hundreds of dollars on this thing, and this is what I get? iTunes formated itself and my iPhone

Hi,For some unknown reason earlier today my itunes didnt start up the normal way and it started recovering itself from some kind of error. Not knowing what was really going on and too frustrated to wait for the loading to complete I hit the cancel button. Soon I noticed that all of my libraries were gone I tried to find an option to get the it recover itself again but I didnt find one so frustratedly I started adding my music folders into the music library again. A bit later I plugged my iPhone to my PC and it started to synchronize automatically as it usually does. However a tad later I found out that all the media, music and programs I used to have in my iPhone were gone from both the phone and the itunes. The itunes had formated almost everything on the phone, not even asking if Id like to do so. So now Ive got to move all the music, video and programs again into my iPhone, yay. As I cant find the lost programs from my itunes anymore the question is if I have to pay for the paid applications I used to have again or if they will be free? As a test I did try to download a paid app I used to have again but it asked if Im sure I want to buy it so I didnt continue the process from there. Some answers would be much appreciated. Advice-Please iPhone

I have had my iphone for some time now. Overall its a very solid experience. I am not necessarily a fanboy but I have always liked my apple experiences. There is a few concerns I have. When the app store was launched I was thinking that finally My phone would incorporate alot of the features that I really look for in a phone. (which by the way there is alot of great applications out there)However it still doesnt seem fully functional for my needs and I am looking for advice of what you guys think.StartersPush email: I thought when they announced push email that I would get push email. However unless you have a exchange server or a mobile me account you dont get push email. This is a problem for me I need my email the second it comes in not in 15 minute increments.Multiple email accounts: Yes they added the feature to delete more then one email at a time. I have 4 email accounts and when you grab mail I sometimes get around 40-60 emails. Well it puts a badge on the main screen (45) this is awsome that it tells me that however there isnt a function to mark multiple emails as read so unless I click through them the badges just stay there and I get confused on whether I actually have a new email or not =).Instant messenger applications: With the fact that the apps have to close on logout or screen switch you dont get informed of a new instant message. To some people this might not be a problem but to me its important. If you notice one thing about what I am typing it all has to do with communication The main reason I have a phone/smartphone is for communication.Dont get me wrong I think the iPhone is so incredible. The media experience on the device is amazing from web surfing to youtube to videos to music to pictures its all amazing.but its seeming to lack on my main need which is communication. So I am asking here for advice on whether I would stick with it or grab a device that suits my needs.(please no flames I spent a ton of time actually thinking about this post, not because I wanted to jump ship but because if I leave my iPhone behind I know I will miss it)Also keep in mind that my 2 main computers are macs yes I have pcs as well. SO this isnt a bash on apple by any means... its about comparing my needs to whats actually logical. Thanks Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Low Battery Notification iPhone

Id figure that the iPhone would play a warning tone if the phone had low battery power. Did the guys in charge decide that it would be best to get rid of the sound altogether? Like most phones probably kill themselves by repeating the Im dying tone! all the time.I think it would be a little convenient if the tone played on the reminder that the batter was low and at each point the phone would let you know (20%, 15% 10%...)Point being, is the iPhone ever going to have a battery level warning tone? eMachine Windows XP Windows XP media Center Edition

Syncing between 2 Windows PCs non-media only iPhone

I have a desktop and a laptop. All my media is on the desktop, and I dont care about putting it on my laptop. I DO want to be able to sync contacts, calendars, and apps between the two (via the iPhone). I know about manually managing media to keep it from syncing, but when I try to sync the other stuff onto the laptop iTunes tells me it will (and does) delete all my apps (whether or not I have Sync applications checked). Android Compare iPhone Top 5 Wins and Losses

Sure, on the surface Google’s Android seems more like a shot through the heart of Windows Mobile — or the head of Palm’s Linux-based OS 2.0 aspirations — but while those platforms enjoy their own historical and market share, it’s Apple’s iPhone that has all the mind share of late. That means, despite Google’s CEO being on the Apple Board of Directors, Google’s Maps, Search, and other services having a prominent place on both devices, and — let’s face it — Google’s full on tech-crush for the iPhone — no one is going to hesitate to pit the two systems head-to-head. Including us!So, what advantages does each one have? What drawbacks? Here they are, in our opinion: the top five iPhone vs. Android Wins and Losses… after the break! How Android Wins1. Hardware OptionsUnlike the singularity of the iPhone, Android follows the current Windows Mobile model (and old Palm OS model) of creating a software platform meant to be implemented by a wide range of different manufacturers across an even wider range of hardware (some speculate beyond even the phone paradigm). Want a keyboard? Touch? Flip? Yellow racing fins? No problem, take 1 from column A and 2 from column B. After all, people tend to be diverse if not unique, and no single device can possibly meet the needs of each and every consumer. By letting manufacturers offer hardware choices, Android wins.2. Developer FreedomWhile the iPhone App Store has been a million (going on billion) dollar success, it has also been an endless source of controversy rooted not only in Apple’s desire to control seemingly every aspect of ecosystem, but the capricious — and callous — way in which they’ve thus far chosen to exercise that control. By contrast, Google is offering what amounts to a totally free Marketplace where developers can pretty much create and deploy anything, limited only by their innovation and determination. Podcaster? Fine. Mailwrangler? Okay (even though it likely duplicates Google’s built-in Gmail client). It’s the classic Open Source argument. (Heck, even the OS itself is Open Source!) By being free as in speech (though Google is wealthy enough to spot developers at least a few beers as well!), Andorid wins.3. Killer Cloud ConnectivityLet’s face it, the cloud is the future, and while Apple has struggled (cough-MobileMe-cough) with that future, Google owns it. Google Search. Gmail. gCal. Google Docs. Google Maps. YouTube. Knol. Chrome. And the list goes on and on (and on). If they can flip the switch and truly, seamlessly integrate everything, not only between applications but across desktop, laptop, and handset, it will make for perhaps the most compelling offering ever on the market. By not being the next Windows-class platform (which superseded the earlier Mac), but by potentially being something even greater, Android wins.4. DRM-Free MediaThe iPhone is hooked into the largest and most successful media fountain in the business, iTunes. The record labels and Hollywood, however, fearing Apple will become another Walmart, able to dictate terms (taken, no doubt, to a Jobsian extreme) have with the exception of EMI, denied iTunes the higher quality, DRM-free music they are willing to give to competitors like Amazon. Google, despite being Amazon’s rival in the data-center-driven cloud computing space, is leveraging Amazon MP3’s musical advantage for Android. No word yet on whether they’ll ever break the DRM-free TV and Movie barrier (not when Hollywood is cutting off so many noses to spite that face), but for as far as it goes, by providing consumers with content free of DRM that never stopped the real pirates, but made everyday use difficult to the point of exasperation, Android wins.5. Sergey and LarrySteve Jobs is the archetypal benevolent dictator, and a divisive one at that. Google’s founders, by contrast, enjoy a shinier, happier public image. Whether it’s their “don’t be evil” motto or their willingness to let Google employees spend 20% of their time (1 day a week) working on solo “skunkworks” projects in the true spirit of innovation, (such as Sergey’s gleeful Android “hang time” app?), their youthful energy and enthusiasm powers the Google brand. By presenting a kinder, friendlier, and — arguably — funnerer corporate culture to consumers, Android wins. How the iPhone Wins1. Unified Hardware/DevelopmentControversies aside, the App Store has changed the face of application development and deployment (and how scary is it that this represents only one of the iPhone’s revolutions). Leveraging the ease of use and power of Cocoa, developers can create applications that will not only run on any iPhone (or iPod Touch) on the market, but be available for market (or for free), at the tap of a button, on each and every one of those devices. While Android developers will have to worry about whether some hardware has keyboards and some not, touchscreens or not (and what resolution?!), real headphones or USB adapters (really HTC? Really?) trackballs or accelerometers — never mind the endless snafu potential of any manufacturer or carrier making any changes they want to the Open Source OS — iPhone developers can “just work”. By providing a single, unified hardware implementation and the unlimited on-device marketplace that comes with it, the iPhone wins.2. Best of Both WorldsWhile Android enjoys the most complete integration with Google imaginable, we can’t forget that Google’s business isn’t making Smartphones. It isn’t Search either. It’s advertising. And to advertise, Google needs to be in front of (and holding on to) as many eyeballs as possible. This means Google needs to provide their services to the iPhone (and Windows Mobile, Palm, Blackberry, etc.) as well. So the iPhone gets Google Search, Maps, YouTube, and all the other Google applications they need anyway. What’s more, Apple gets to carefully craft their own unparalleled user interfaces and mobile technology on top of and into those Google Services. Google’s Android, however, gets nothing from Apple. By iPhone users getting the best of both the Apple and Google worlds, the iPhone wins.3. Google Getting Slightly Less “Not Evil”Apple can be smug, uncaring, and wrong-headed redacteds, fair enough. But while Google professes “don’t be evil”, their growing size and power should be a concern to everyone who values privacy and security. Bottom-line: they know everything about you. You search for “very private personal issue”. They know that, and your IP, and can cross-reference it with everything else you’ve searched for, and mapped, and (with the GPS in your phone) whether you’re on the move. And their business is advertising. They own DoubleClick. Sure, Apple hooks into Google for Safari web search and maps as well, but on the iPhone you can at least choose not to search, or to search Yahoo!, and to turn off GPS. Maybe you can with Android, maybe not. Chrome has set a very poor precedent (no URL box, just search, means Google parses avery web address you type — never mind the ULA controversy). Given their shiny, happy facade, this makes them all the more terrifying. By the sheer nature of Apple’s business model being predicated on pleasing consumers enough to buy their hardware, and not slipping in advertising on the down low with little or no oversight or accountability, the iPhone wins.4. iTunes International & iPod EcosystemFor all the greatness that is Amazon MP3, it’s entirely USA-centric. Sure, for many people that seems like the whole world — but it’s not. While Big media deliberately won’t give iTunes higher quality DRM-free music, the nature of international media rights is every bit as unfair to Amazon and their offerings. iTunes has had years to navigate this archaic quagmire, however, and while they’re certainly not everywhere yet, iTunes Stores are available to a huge number of consumers around the world. And unlike Android at launch, iPhone users in some areas also have TV (including NBC… again), Movies, and the rest of iTunes’ massive media content library available to them. Likewise, the Apple ecosystem is mature, providing everything from easy media conversion tools for personal content, to a plethora of accessories, to Apple’s full line of other hardware and software products. By providing such a vast, and vastly simple set of content and spherically-integrated supporting environment, the iPhone wins.5. Steve JobsCall him Steve, El Jobso, Dear Leader, or an arrogant expletive, Steve Jobs has proven time and again to have an uncanny knack for knowing “what’s next”. Not innovation in the strictest sense, Jobs instead takes futuristic technology and realized it for the masses — in whatever elegant shade of this and gorgeous material of that he knows is lust-worthy at that very moment. From the CLI of the Apple II, to the GUI of the Mac, to the portability of the iPod, to the multi-touch of the iPhone, Jobs more than anyone this generation has, over and over, pushed the boundaries of consumer technology and the entire industry around it. That’s why every Stevenote brings the internet to a grinding halt, and Android’s announcement barely registered a stutter on the tubes. You don’t dent the universe by committee (which Google’s Open Handset initiative and Android Platform most certainly are), and there’s no better proof of that than the achievements of Apple under the — admittedly dictatorial — guidance of Steve Jobs. By walking onto the stage at Macworld 2007 and pulling the jaw-dropping surprise of the iPhone from his pocket, and by keeping every consumer on the edge-of-their seats waiting for the next Stevenote, and the next “one more thing”, the iPhone won.ConclusionEvery industry needs competition, and while we can’t help but worry about our friends over on the Windows Mobile and Palm platforms, we also can’t help but think, win or lose, Android will force the iPhone to up its game (and vice versa) as well. Either way, we consumers are the ultimate winners.Via How Does Android Compare to the iPhone? Top 5 Wins and Losses

social media and citizen journalism now on your iPhone

Mobile devices are clearly the platform for citizen newsgathering, and an iPhone application is a logical funnel. Soon people will be able to broadcast anything live from the street; in a way, individuals will become walking televisions.Last week, CBS Mobile released its EyeMobile iPhone application, making CBS the first broadcast network to launch an application enabling users to become personal broadcasters as they upload, view and comment on photos and videos live, from anywhere. The EyeMobile application is available, free of charge, at the iTunes App Store. The EyeMobile application offers the full functionality of CBSEyeMobile.com which launched earlier this year. Using the iPhone camera, users can capture and upload photos to the CBS EyeMobile site where they can view and rate reports and interact with other EyeMobile on-the-go journalists. After submitting information, EyeMobile application users can update their report, track the report’s number of views, and engage in discussions with members of the EyeMobile community.A public relations Internet TV channel to promote drilling in TexasFinanced by an energy company of Oklahoma City, a group of seasoned journalists have created Shale.TV, an Internet video site devoted to a rock formation, Barnett Shale, lying under northern Texas and rich in natural gas.“Through a combination of live talk/interview shows and interactive and archived content, we hope to provide thorough, accurate and independent information about the complex issues and opportunities of developing natural gas domestically”.The Barnett Shale’s gas has enriched those who allow drilling rigs but also led to complaints about noise, truck traffic, and fear of billowing fireballs.Very smartly Chesapeake Corporation, who owns a big share of Shale.TV, say that reporters have free rein to cover the industry, warts and all. “We expect nothing less than for them to be objective.”ABC.com updates its award winning video playerABC.com has rolled out some updated features for its award winning video player, from true full-screen viewing, parental ratings for new content and closed-captioning to embedding functionality. The revamped player is part of a larger update that also included a new short-form video player. Both the full-episode player and the short-form video player include built-in content recommendations, the ability to share clips via e-mail and enhanced integration with social networking sites. In addition, ABC is releasing more than 180 episodes of 15 different programs available via ABC.com, affiliate sites, portals, video-aggregator sites, and social networking sites using the ABC.com Full Episode Widget.Since the previous generation of the player launched in 2006, more than 441 million episodes have been initiated and more than 1 billion ads served.Via http://iblnews.com/story.php?id=41574

Cant download 2.1 because iTunes think not running 8.0 iPhone

But when I opened iTunes, everything was great and it seemed to have worked. Setting Restrictions for 13 Year Olds New iPhone

Greetings. Long term Mac user and software quality assurance professional. My in laws just bought my 13 year old son a new iPhone 3G for his birthday. We will not allow him access to YouTube or Safari on his phone. I understand that one can restrict accesses via Restrictions on the phone and can toggle off YouTube and Safari, but I had another idea (if its not too restrictive). Why not simply call ATT and stop the $30 a month media package? What else would he lose in addition to Safari and Email? Would weather and maps -- the only other apps we feel hell get good use out of -- still work with no media package? Remember, hell still have phone and text, camera, iTunes (via the home Mac), downloading apps (via the home Mac).Thoughts?Jim Swayze

Multi-media messaging iPhone

Can anyone tell me why the most advanced phone in the world (iPhone) is still incapable of receiving and sending picture messages and video messages? Being able to send a picture via e-mail is nice and everything, but why is it that the cheapest phones and simplest phones can send and receive pictures and video and the most ADVANCED PHONE IN THE WORLD (iPhone) cannot? Anyone? Is this new update (2.1) going to give us that capability? It seems to me like Apple has been so involved in doing so many other things with the iPhone that they have forgotten about the simple things in a cell phone that are sometime necessary!! Who do we have to talk to so that they can start working on this? iMac Mac OS X (10.5.4)

And 2.1 Contains . iPhone 3G

I dont know about anyone else but I was kind of left wanting more from the Lets Rock media event... Yes I know that 2.1 for the iPhone will better the battery life, prevent crashing apps..etc. But is that it??? That sounds like just another bug fix update to me... Does it really deserve the 2.1 seeding??? And ok, if there are more features why not mention them at the event.. Why be so secretive. We know the update is coming friday how bout letting us know what we can look forward to??? Just a bit frustrated by the lack of info apples loyal customers get.... Anyone else feel this way??

Tired to spend hours in syncing iphone

My phone has so many issues. Backup takes forever. Syncing errors. Freezes. Does not retrieve my backups. Also loose my media content like music and podcasts. The iPhone promise a lot of things but at the moment my experience has been horrible. Is there an update in the near future that is going to solve these issues? I hope so.It seems like that my case is not isolated and that many other users are experiencing the same thing. iPhone 1st generation Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Wallpaper question iPhone

OK... used the world icon supplied by Apple as a Default when I purchased my Iphone 3g. I recently tried to add a pic of my kids as the wallpaper and the screen said Set as wallpaper... so I set it; and now I have no wallpaper! I tried turning on/off; re-set, etc. Strange thing is, my kids pic said saving as wallpaper as well. Any ideas/thoughts... at this point not even the Apple supplied wallpaper is working (the ones listed under settings/wallpaper).... I just get the screen with icons behind it! Thxs!! help before iphone meets brick wall

Hello All,While Ive been in love with my iphone 3g, I feel this love is beginning to turn into severe hate. I have purchased cheap electronic items before and many unreliable pocket pcs before. But the iphone thumps them all in being the coolest gadget Ive ever bought. However, what is it all worth if its also the worst reliable one as well? NOTHINGAs I am writting this, my iphone 3g has been displaying the apple logo screen for the last 8 hours. All I was doing was installing an application, next I know the phone rebooted itself and since then the I cant get pass the logo. This is about just the last gnikcuf(backwards) straw as this is the 3rd time this has happen but this time, it just wont snap out of it. I was under the impression that APPLE as a company made more reliable software than Microsoft, but at this point, I dont remember any of my laptops or pocket pcs being that bad. I called an apple store to relieve some of my frustrations, the agent kindly suggested that I have a bad phone and to bring it in for replacement. The thing is, I dont even have a land line in my house and that is my only phone which is not working right now. With my work schedule I simply cant keep on making trips to the apple store for the same crap. This will be my 4th trip since purchased last month. There is one problem however, I have a lot of personal media stuff(girl friend stuff) on the phone now that I dont wish prying tech eyes to see. So my question is, is there any way to resolve this apple non-sense problem without returning the phone for a new one? Thanks all! cypher red pill

iPhone App Extends Storage to Whopping 1TB

Oosahs free virtual storage service is releasing its new iPhone application today, turning your iPhone and iPod Touch into a mobile desktop of sorts. The benefit of having access to your documents and files is that an application such as Oosah effectively extends the storage capacity of your mobile device.Oosah already had limited mobile support, allowing you to upload media from your mobile phone directly to your Oosah account while on the go. In this day and age, however, mobile accessibility to your own content is equally important and weve seen a number of applications moving us in that direction. Oosah in particular takes advantage of the iPhones drag and drop capabilities for file management, and focuses on the two-way sharing capacity that its storage options allow.Box.net, a similar virtual storage service, released its iPhone application shortly after the emergence of the iPhone, and the recently launched DataCase is finding new ways in which to share files between your computer and your iPhone or iPod Touch. Moblyng is going after the socially active media user for its mobile appeal, even though this moves beyond the iPhone and iPod touch demographic. The ultimate difference for the adoption of these services will be the end users needs and the management capabilities of files while on the go, and increasingly manageable between social media sharing networks as well.Oosahs promotion of its new iPhone app is actually focusing on the accessibility of files that youre likely to use on your mobile device anyway, such as your music library, meaning that youll be able to access and play far more songs than what the highest memory capacity of your iPod can carry. So in Oosahs case, the management of your files via your mobile device is a highly important task, and this appeal to the media functions that are already in use by iPhone and iPod Touch users is what Oosah is banking on in order to stand out from the growing number of applications making your mobile device that much more like a mini computer. Now if we can only get Jobs to include copy and paste on these things

The iPhone Apps for Business Watch

The number of business applications available for download in Apple’s App Store is growing steadily. While it doesn’t necessarily mean that businesses are buying iPhones for workers, it’s a good indication that workers are using their iPhones for business purposes. In March, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced that anyone could develop software that would run on the iPhone and that Apple would sell it though store it planned to create. At the same meeting he announced that the iPhone was getting a software upgrade designed to make the device more appealing to businesses. But when the App Store launched a little over a month ago, there was little in the way of software targeted to businesses – just 23 apps. That number has more than doubled since then. As of today, there are 65 pieces of business software available. And even that’s up from 54 that were available one week ago. It’s still a small percentage of the 2,000 or so apps that are available in the store, but the growth is impressive. And there are signs that people are starting to buy these business apps. When the App Store launched, a version of Salesforce.com’s sales-automation software was the only business app to crack the store’s 100-most-popular list. Today there are three, all of which turn an iPhone into a digital voice recorder. There are also as a handful of apps that Apple classifies as productivity tools – apps that transport files via the iPhone and create to-do lists – that we think could just as easily be business apps. And Oracle said recently that more than 23,000 people have downloaded its iPhone app.Via Ben Worthen

iPhone Backup takes ages since 2.0

Since upgrading to 2.0 whenever I sync my iPhone in iTunes the backup process takes about 15mins however previously this would take just a few seconds. Any ideas why this might be? It seems like iTunes is trying to backup everything on the iPhone including all the media 10GBs worth? Is there an option to stop this from happening? Thanks in advance!Jon Windows XP

Whats with these huge firmware updates iPhone 3G

So i figured id only need 8 gb of space on a iphone so i bought a 8gb, but of course you dont actually get 8 gb you get about 7.2 after the OS and apps that are preinstalled. Then these 250 mb firmware updates come along and now 2 make it 500 mb and were not even on 2.1 yet and i;m thinking gezz when 2.1 comes along im gonna only have about 6.8 or 6.5 gb left to use.Has apple thought maybe we should think about how large these updates really need to be so people can actually enjoy the space left on for media and what not?????Anyone wanna contribute to this tread??? imac 24 inch Mac OS X (10.5.4) iPhone 3G 8bg, Mac Mini, iPod 80g

iPhone App Rundown

They say you can tell a lot about a man by his apps.Apple has opened up a wonderful can of worms by welcoming the development of anyone with time, skill, and innovation enough to program new applications for their iPhone and iPod touch. And just as they did with iTunes, they're acting as a gatekeeper between the producer and the user, and taking their share of every transaction (30%) while watching their hardware sales skyrocket. It's an ingenious way to sell hardware: Make software, or in this case supervise the transfer of open development to the consumer, and everyone and their brother will want the manufactured device that it runs on.The best part of this whole personal computing revolution is the idea of customization. Every user is different, and Apple has made it possible for everyone to enjoy their iPhone in their own way. Check out the list below and see where you fit in. The ultimate in stalking, uh, watching fellow users.MMS - Send sexy pix of yourself accompanying text with an MMS app, something Apple should have included in the original phone's software set.Sweetheart - Allows you to place an icon on your home screen that dials your lady with one push of the button. Epocrates Rx for iPhone

For years, physicians and other healthcare professionals have relied on the Epocrates family of reference tools to access therapeutic information on their Windows Mobile and Palm OS devices. Now Epocrates Rx brings the company’s extensive drug database to iPhone users, and it’s an excellent start. After installing the application, you set up an account on Epocrates’ Web site and then enter your user name and password on the iPhone. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes. Epocrates Rx’s default Drug Search screen lets you look for medications by their generic or trade name. If you’re restricted to prescribing from a specific drug formulary, you can choose one by tapping a button next to the search box, and you can customize the formulary list.As soon as you begin to type, Epocrates Rx shows all the matching entries in its 3,300-item database. Tap one, and a page with comprehensive information about the drug, including adult and pediatric dosing, black box warnings from the FDA, pharmacology, contraindications, adverse reactions, and pricing, appears. You can even enter notes for your own reference.Epocrates Rx also makes it easy to check for harmful drug combinations by adding medications to an interaction checklist. Tapping the Interactions button at the bottom of the screen shows potential problems with each pair of medications.Epocrates Rx can help doctors identify drugs with helpful visuals.Epocrates Rx can help you manage patients who bring pills in unlabeled containers by identifying drugs based on their physical characteristics, including shape, color, and markings. You need an active Internet connection to view drug pictures, but that makes the application much smaller than it would be otherwise. As good as it is, Epocrates Rx isn’t perfect: for example, I couldn’t find Thyrogen in its database, nor are iodinated contrast media or other diagnostic materials, which are treated as medications by The Joint Commission, listed. Epocrates also doesn’t offer its subscription-based references—Epocrates Rx Pro, Epocrates Essentials, or Epocrates Essentials Deluxe—for the iPhone yet, although the company says that more products are on the way. Until then, Epocrates Rx is indispensible for anyone who needs drug information on the go.Epocrates Rx is compatible with any iPhone or iPod touch running the iPhone 2.0 software update.

20 Battery Warning-Another 3g Battery Test iPhone

I know theres a few discussion here concerning battery tests but I think my is different. (special *smile*) The other threads Ive read about battery consumption dont really lay any rules to follow so that readers can make comparisons. They dont list any specifics such as what is on...what update are they on...brightness etc. I would like to start a new one in an attempt to provide more info for others to be able to try to recreate and thus know how there phone compares. The simplest IMO is when the 20% warning pops up...this is where I would appreciate to get recorded information from my Iphone 3G buddies. Specification: -Iphone 3G White -Running v. 2.0.1-Serial # starts 85 & last letter is the R (not sure how much to reveal here..I can change and add more later if needed)-Brightness: (under the letters brighteness the top one always set in somewhere within there so other can recreate) I set mine under r-Bluetooth: off-Push/fetch data: off-GPS/location: off-3g: ON (all time)-Wi-Fi: off-Data Roaming: OffMy results at 20% warning: 95% time on web surfing or watching videos onlyusage 3hr 17minStandby 13hr 9minData received: (for fun plus tells us how heavy your use has been thus far) 1,506MB***P.S. Major iPhone 3G Problems-Apps Dont Load No iPod Content

Hi everyone – this is my first post here, and I wish it was based on a more positive note. My iPhone 3G experience has been an interesting ride so far, and I am hoping that all problems that people are reporting resolved soon.I am having a major issue with Apps (not loading) and iPod Content (not showing up) on my new iPhone 3G. I really don’t know what to do anymore, I am truly at a loss. Since I got the phone a couple of weeks ago, I’ve done about 25 restores (fresh, ‘as new’) and re-configured and re-installed all my Apps and re-loaded all my iPhone media content countless times. Needless to say, my patience is wearing very thin. Most of those 25 restores were due to the ALOD (Apple Logo Of Death) caused by the AppStore Application on the phone itself. I’ve learned the hard way over and over, so now I have a new system – only use iTunes for App installs, uninstalls, and updates – I don’t touch the AppStore icon. That is, until 7.7.1 was released.Since I upgraded to iTunes 7.7.1, I’ve been having this horrible problem – worse than the ALOD. After I am done configuring and installing my iPhone 3G – 3rd party Apps will not load, and the iPod portion of my iPhone does not show any content, even though I’ve got gigs of music, video, PodCasts, and AudioBooks.Quite frankly, it’s maddening. I’ve had my new iPhone for 3 weeks now and I can say with all honesty that I’ve not been able to enjoy it at all yet. It’s not hardware related, so (another) swap won’t do the trick. iPhone software and iTunes are simply broken and Apple needs to fix them both.So when I saw the iPhone Software (v2.01) update last night, I was ecstatic. I thought maybe this was the fix for this last issue that I am having – an iPhone with no useable Apps or usable content – even though they are all right there in front of me and have been installed with no errors.I once again decided to restore my otherwise perfect white iPhone 3G. iTunes 7.7.1 downloaded the latest software/firmware package, I restored as a new phone bypassing all backups, and the install went flawlessly. Now for the test. I chose to sync only 1 music playlist, 3 podcasts, 3 videos, 3 audio books a few pictures and so on. I figured let me try a little of each so there isn’t any time wasted. I synced and all was well. I synced another playlist, then powered the phone off then back on (since that would trigger the no App launch and no content issue) and still, all was great. Then I decided to install a few Apps and test things out again. I did an entire page of Apps (16) through iTunes. They installed fine. I synced another playlist, then powered down the phone, then turned it back on. The Apps launched fine and all my content was still visible and played back without a hitch.Great, was I finally on my way to actually using my phone? I was hopeful – so I installed the rest my apps. After each page of apps were done installing, I’d wait a minute or two after the spinning cursor would stop, sync another playlist, then power off the phone and back on again making sure that all was still fine. It was – I was very happy. But that all changed. This morning as I was leaving my apartment for work, I grabbed my fully configured, synced, and loaded iPhone, hit the iPod icon and saw the unthinkable… ‘No Music, go to iTunes to download content’. Then of course I tried to launch the 3rd part Apps, and they all quit (as per usual) the second they were launched. Well, I was horrified. Why? How? It all worked fine last night? I powered on, powered off, synced back and forth – all the things that would trigger this major issue, but all was still fine – it passed the test time and time again. I thought for sure 2.01 fixed it, but it didn’t – it just took a bit longer for it to happen again. All it did was sit there over night – nothing was launched, synced or used!I got fed up and left my new and barely used iPhone on my kitchen counter, grabbed my iPod and headed out the door once again without my iPhone. I can’t walk the streets of Manhattan without my music, and I had no time to do another restore just to get some functionality back.I honestly don’t know what to do anymore. I’ve been a tech junky and Apple fan for years, and I’ve never had as many problems with any of my computers or devices as I am having with the 3G. I guess tonight when I get home I’ll have to do one more install just to get the iPod functionality back so I can at least use my iPhone – even if it’s on a very limited basis. These aren’t just little ‘new version’ bugs. These are major problems that are limiting my iPhone usage and even prohibiting me from actually using my iPhone to do what it was made to do. So now that I think I’ve exhausted all options, anyone have any suggestions? Mac + PC Windows Vista

iPhone 3G and pricing

Enough already. Ive been reading nearly every posts since the new iPhone was announced and frankly, Im about sick of seeing those of you crying about the packaging price(s). All I hear is, AT&T is getting over on us. $240.00 more over the two year restricted term. BOO HOO!!!! If you just happen to be one those lucky early adapters, youll recall paying either $499.99 (4GB) or $599.99(8GB). At the time, your only option was EDGE. No where close to 3G technology. As bad as the connections can be, the iPhone is what we wanted. The plans included: $20(Unlimited data+200 text messages), $30(Unlimited data+1500 text messages), or $40(Unlimited data and texting). Now, lets take a journey. 4GB: $500+ $20*24=$980, $500+$30*24=$1220, $500+$40*24=$1460. 8GB: $600+20*24=$1080, $600+30*24=$1320, $600+40*24=$1560. That being said, Ive never once heard anyone complain about the cost. Why? Not an issue for the big ballas who adapted the newest technology. Albeit, a lot of complaints about the suck feature limitations. I dont recall many who returned theirs though. What was the big fad? <Edited by Moderator> If you take the most expensive data+text plan, it still adds up to a $60 savings over 6/29/07 8GB. 16GB: $300+$50*24=$1500. Buy it or move around. Stop SNITCHING!!!!!!!!!! Get over it already. Dell M140 Windows XP Pro media Center OS iPhone & AT&T 8125
