hello, first of all i live in an African Country, the iPhone 3G was recently launched by ORANGE here, i purchased one from the Orange store for Christmas and i am experiencing a lot of problems.First of all when i was waiting for my iphone to be activated in the store, the employee said that they were experiencing problems with my iPhone 3G, to make a long story short, they replaced the sim card and the phone seemed to work.after about a week of using the phone, ive noticed:-some of my calls are being dropped randomly-the metal frame around the plastic bit hasnt been glued (manufactured) properly, a fraction of a mm of light is emmiting from one side of the phones metal framework-my phone randomly tells me theres no service and then suddenly 10mins later i get full service (without moving the phone, the same happens with my wi-fi)-my phone randomly goes on silent (the ringtone is on the loudest, and the silent button hasnt been activted)Can someone give me advice on what i should do? do i go to ORANGE and ask them to give me a new iPhone? what should i tell them exactly?its a first hand phone, i havnt dropped the phone, and yes i have already tried reformatting the phone, and i still have the same problems, and in case your wondering, NO i did not jailbreak my iPhone 3G - 8GB iPhone 3G - 8GB Mac OS X (10.5.6) Malfunctioning - Replacing

I went to the vodafone store today and those guys said they can repair it but for a cost...I was told it is not covered in the warranty since it is a Physical Damage...the phone is in mint condition....and they ask me a repair cost of Rs.8675 (which is approximately 30% of the purchase price)..ridiculous...n e idea how to take it forward??... i called the apple call centre..its closed..my bad...how do i contact the main apple office and get it replaced cuz all i know is that the local vodafone guys know nothing about this...

iPhone settings help

I recently got an iPhone, and Im a little confused with the sound settings. Its unforunate that the iPhone doesnt allow custom ringtones for text message alerts. I came to terms with this, and I thought I could just have the phone vibrate to alert me instead of one of those ridiculous ringtones.But when I put none as my selection for text alerts, the phone neither plays noise nor vibrates. Is it suppose to be like this? Ive checked my settings numerous times. The silent switch is set to ring, in settings vibrate (under ring) is on, and the text alert setting is set to none.Is there a way to have the phone set to ring, but have the text alert ONLY vibrate?Thanks Macbook Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Is it possible to set an iPhone so that when particular people call the phone will ring even if it is in silent mode?Or is it possible to set the ring tone for all but one contact to silent mode?I want to be able to turn off my phone to most callers sometimes (like during a meeting) but still be able to get important calls (like an emergency call from my wife).

I just went in for a replacement iPhone 3G yesterday. Mine developed a crack over the silent switch. I have an Elago privacy screen, which I loved. The Genius Bar guy put the privacy screen on my new phone when he swapped them out. In the past day, I have had to restart the phone 4 times because I could not get the screen to turn on after an extended period if being asleep.I did some checking and read a post on a 3rd party site that stated the newer version of the phones have extra sensors that dont play nice with phone covers or cases that cover the sensor. I removed the privacy screen and have let the phone go dark for extended periods of time and I am having no problems now.Kind of bummed because I really like the privacy screen.Has anyone else had this issue or learned about the sensors causing problems.Is it best to keep the phone on auto-brightness or manual brightness? timed silent mode iPhone

New iphone 3G user here. Decent phone!A feature I am missing is a timed silent mode.My old Nokia allowed me to set a timed silent profile that would expire when I told it to expire.I dont see how to do this with the iphone, all I see is that I can flip it to silent mode and manually take it out of silent mode.I used to use the timed silent profile all the time on the Nokia. It was extremely convenient if you were at work and needed to mute your phone for a certain period of time, and didnt want to have to remember to take the phone out of silent mode. iPhone 3G .-European Repair Policy

Hi,I do not know whether I am right here. The silent/ringer switch on my iPhone 3G broke after 6 weeks (bought the phone in october 2008).Apple Care Hotline told me that I cannot get my phone repaired in Germany (I am located in Germany) since I bought my phone in italy. Small cracks next to silent switch iPhone 3G

Last night I noticed a couple of small cracks each side of the silent switch. One of them is cracked right from the switch to the silver edge of the phone and the other goes about 10mm onto the back of the phone.Will this qualify me for a new replacement phone from Apple? The rest of the phone is immaculate and doesnt have a scratch on it so they cant say its from being dropped etc. I want to make sure Ill be able to get a new replacement as the closest Apple store to me is about 35 miles away.Thanks in advance... Alarm not silenced with silent Switch iPhone

Im surprised not to see any comments on this. I entered a meeting and silenced my phone. Moments later to my horror my alarm sounded! Evidently the alarm functions DO NOT silence with the flick of the silent switch. Therefore, each time I enter a meeting I must turn off all alarm times (which I have a few). Does anybody have any way around this? Im surprised Apple would not make the silence switch to silence everything. Any ideas is appreciated. iphone Mac OS X (10.5.2)

When the Ring/silent control is switched to the OFF position, the iPhone fails to go into silent mode. Rings, SMS notifications, music etc. are still loud and clear.The only way to quiet the iPhone is to turn it off.I have shut down (turned off) the iPhone and turned it on again.I have backed up and restored the device.I restored the device again and set up the iPhone as a new user. Ringer defective on new phone guarantee options iPhone 3G

Hi folks,First Ill fend off the usual solutions. The phone isnt set to silent. The phone doesnt think headphones are attached (adjusting the volume displays ringer). The loudspeaker/ringer has never made a sound on this newly bought phone. Incoming calls cause vibration but no ring. Music does not play through the loudspeaker. Key clicks dont happen. All of these sounds do work through headphones, though.Ill be happy for any suggestions for a fix. The only thing I havent been able to try yet is an update or restore, since my network connection is too flaky right now.However, I also need to understand my guarantee situation and the timing is awkward. I bought the device new in Italy. This is, I must stress, a normal, legal, non-simlocked phone as is available on the Italian market. Im now in Austria, but only for a few more days, when I travel home to Ireland. The retailer indicates that her only option is a return for repair or exchange from Apple, and I cant wait for that. Im assuming that the usual EU-wide guarantee will apply in this case, but Id like to verify this with Apple Ireland. Vibration errors iPhone 3G

today, while in my pocket, the phone started to vibrate. i took it out thinking i had a call or a text but i did not. then it started to vibrate on and off erratically again on its own. at the same time the bell (bell/crossed out bell) logo that comes on when you switch the phone to silent was flashing back and forth. this happened several times. i tried turning off vibrate cause it was getting annoying. while using the phone in several modes ( making a call, using the iPod, and using an app) the problem continued but with out the vibration. the logo kept coming and going. now when i move the silent switch it doesnt even show the bell logo.any one else have this problem?my phone is only 4 days old iBook Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Im a iPhone 3G user. One night I plugged my iPhone into it the charger and the screen went white and would not respond to anything. Ive tried restarting it, doesnt work. Ive also tried restoring it and all Ive gotten back is the silent switch, unlock/lock button back. Lost keyboard clicks after 2.2 iPhone

I rarely use the keyboard clicks but thought Id give them another shot. I click to turn them on and I hear the click sound but when I go to any other screen I dont hear the sounds. Annoying silentmute button iPhone

Recently got myself a 3G iphone , all is well apart from the silent button, i am forever missing calls because when the phone is in my pocket i always seem to accidently knock the button to silent hence missing the calls, i do have the phone on vibrate but very rarely feel this. Is there any way to over ride this feature ? do many other people suffer from this ? can i complain to apple if so can someone point me in the right direction. or maybe some one has developed an app that turns this off. Otherwise i am quite happy with the phone bit this really is starting to bug me let alone get me in trouble when people think i am not answering there calls. Thanks in advance

Bug with new 2.2 update iPhone 3G

Not sure if anyone else is experiencing the same issue with the new 2.2 update, but when listening to applications like iSleep or any other type of music playing app, if you flick the silent switch on the music cuts out until you flick it back. Also when the screen times out the music cuts off too.If this is a bug then this is a pretty serious one! is there a way to set low battery warning audiable? It happened to me a few times already--the phone was low on battery and without a warning sound and it died silently and I missed some important calls. Did apple just forget to develop such a basic feature? Or Mr. Jobs doesnt think it is necessary. I also notice sometimes the battery bar doesnt indicate correctly for hours it says its half full but it dies all the sudden.

silent Vibrate Toggle Not Working iPhone

The toggle button / switch for the silent - Vibrate function is no longer working. After numerous attempts, I was finally able to switch it to OFF. But, when away from the office or with others, I prefer to keep the phone on Vibrate while keeping the Ringer off. The toggle button for the Ring - Vibrate button works just fine. Also, that section of the screen appears to be fine, because I have used it for various other applications and sites.Any thoughts / suggestions are greatly appreciated. Will a Restore help?

Ive not had any problems with mine but my brother called me the other day telling me his silent button on the side has just fallen off. After 2 months of normal daily use, my iPhone 3G (2.1) does not ring (or vibrate) at incoming calls, when its slepping. NO, its not the silent-switch! I never had this problem before, Ive seen this the first time some days ago.THE PROBLEM CAN BE REPRODUCED!! I just have to leave the phone alone for a while, then it will not ring anymore. I have a legally free iPhone without simlock or netlock from Czech republic.Also WLAN isnt working anymore. I used WLAN daily but since some days ago, I cannot find ANY WLAN. silent Mode Call Duration iPhone

The iPhone silent mode really scared me today. I turned on the silent mode before I having my conference today, and half way of the conference I sent a text, as my many years experiences of using silent mode of mobile phone, I never expect my iPhone will make sound when the person reply my text!!! I think Apple should upgrade this function as this is not acceptable mistake. Another thing is, I cant check the call duration after making or recieve a call as many other phone does. Touchy Ringer Switch iPhone 3G

The ringer switch on my black 8GB 3G seems to have some sort of hardware malfunction. I usually keep the phone on silent (orange dot showing on the switch) and in my pocket. Its in a hard plastic case that stays well clear of the ringer/volume buttons. Ive never dropped it or submerged it, and there are no signs of physical damage.Something seems to have shorted or come loose. Even when the phone is already in silent mode, if I touch the switch or nudge it gently towards the back of the phone (the direction its already switched to), it vibrates as though Im putting it into silent mode. This can be terribly annoying if its in my pocket and gets set off. Ive determined that its due to physical movement, and not conductivity of my skin, by pushing it with a plastic fork so I wasnt conducting. Anyone else have this problem? Oke,So heres my problem, the thing is that my silent button felt of my iphone 3G BLACK 8 GB. I live in Belgium, so our official Iphone dealer is Mobistar. So i went to the Mobistar shop and asked what i needed to do. The 3 men told me that they needed to send my Iphone to apple, and that i could take up to 3 weeks! But i cant lose my Iphone for 3 weeks! thats to much.. Further he told me that it doesnt fell under the warranty of 1 year... so that their would be some costs on it.. The silent switch on my 45-day old black iPhone 3G 16GB just broke off last week.It was rather stiff from day 1 but not knowing how it was supposed to feel, I didnt pay much attention. The iPhone was constantly in a silicon case and is in mint condition.As there are no Genius Bars (or Apple stores, for that matter) in Greece, I took my iPhone to the authorized reseller, they sent it to their authorized service provider and the latter (5 days later!) called me to say that it is not covered by the warranty and that I should pay €268 ($365) to have to replaced.Is this legal? What can I do to protect myself against their ignorance (not to assume profiteering tendencies)?

Blocking phone number iPhone

I have a 1st gen iphone, with a number that Ive had for 6 years. Someone has been harassing me despite me repeatedly asking her to stop. She calls, texts, and leaves me cruel (but not threatening) voicemails. I do not want to change my number because I know that she can easily get it, and simply putting a silent ringtone isnt desirable because I do NOT want to receive text messages or voicemails from this person. iPhone silent button not clicking 3G

The silent button on my phone will click when I turn it on (the little red dot showing) but it will not click when I turn it off. The button just slides back into position with no reassurance that it really worked. The function of the button seems to work. It is muting the ringer and un-muting it as it should but should I be worried about the button not functioning in the near future since there is no real click when the button is returned to the original position?Thanks PC Windows XP

Did you notice it that your current maps with GPS is dangerous, independent GPS hardware are made to be safe to drive while its on?Think about it!NO JAVA!!! Again one of the most sophisticated cell phones out there lacking what windows operated cells have for a couple of years. JAVA! For years now you guys should of known that most web site designers and programmers base there web sites to run on Windows Explore. Why can apple develope a Saffari with JAVA that is friendly with any web page design? WHy is that?Voice Mail: I recently thought about a an application that could forward your voice messages. why not?Exterior silent/vibrator bottom: Why have the silent bottom as a hard ware not software controlled? VERY dissapointed in iPhone and customer service

I have owned an iPhone for about 3 days now and have to say it is one of the worst experiences in my life. I have been an ATT customer for years and that too is going to change soon. The People at the ATT store on Concord Pike in Delaware could not have been nicer when I was there to buy the phone but what a differance three days later when I am having a problem with my iPhone, now they could not have been any more rude and basically did NOTHING for me but be rude. They did send me to the Apple store which was 1 hour away from my home.We drive to the Apple Store and while they were not nearly as rude as the ATT people, they were still no help. Basically they checked a few settings and told us they did not know why the phone was acting the way it was. Then they told me I had to make an appointment with a Genius and come back as the next appointment would not be for over an hour. They also recommended I come back another day. So now I just drove 2 hours for nothing. They did say to go home and do a restore via the iTunes site but could not say if that would fix my problem and obviously it was not going to fix all my Calendar appointments.Just to give you a little background on what the phone was doing maybe somebody on here could give me some help or a clue as to what is wrong. It started out I could not make any outgoing calls as it was silent. Finally I figured out if I went into source and selected iPhone the sound would come back. It kept giving me 3 choices everytime I tried to make a call, iPhone, the car bluetooth and something else. I did not get the screen with mute, speaker keypad or add call anymore. It also changed 75% of my appointments in the calendar, some 3 hrs up, some 3 hours back and the other 25% were unchanged. I also noticed every time I turned it on to make a call it would be on a different screen, never the home screen. It also seemed like the touch screen did not work very well. I should probably mention it was very hot today(90+ degrees) and the phone was in my pocket. Once I got home and in the AC the phone seemed to start working again. I hate to say it but after this experience I could not recommend anybody buy an iPhone let alone any Apple products and I DEFINETLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ATT to anybody. Fortunately I am employed in a position where I have contact with consumers/websites/forums and I will spread the word.Anybody, please HELP!

So we went to the Apple store (Arden Mall - Sacramento) and made an appointment upon arriving. We actually only waited about 45 minutes. Not to bad. While waiting we looked at the new iPod Nanos and iPod Touches -- very, very cool! The iPod Touch is so thin... amazing!The Apple Genius was very polite, energetic and helpful. He looked at the cracks (near the Headphone Jack, the Ring/silent switch and near the Doc Connector). Which is where the majority of the cracks are happening. A few questions, no hassles... and he said no problem. We did get the famous white box replacement. I asked if this was a refurbished phone, he replied he did not know. We looked over the phone very closely and at this point even if it was a refurbished phone... its better than a cracked one!When I asked if Apple has fixed this problem with the phones being manufactured now... he replied what problem?, I was like... are you joking? He claims this is only the 4th one that has been returned for cracks since the launch? Maybe so? No worries, I understand the corporate line. Anyhow, is anyone else seeing cracks? Is this a problem only with the original 3Gs, or is this still happening on ones recently purchased? Also Im curious if it cracks again will Apple replace the phone as long as its in the one year warranty period??My wife wants a white one, but is waiting to see if Apple is really going to introduce colored versions as it gets closer to the holidays. HELPPP cant hear anything when making calls or listening to VM iPhone 3G

Ok so this is so strange but..when i make a call or attempt to listen to my VM using my IPHONE3g, i cant hear anything on the other end.. BUT, when i turn speaker on, then i can hear my VM and/or the person on the other end.. it also works when synced to my bluetooth in my car.. but then when i pick up the actual phone, its silent.. also have looked in all the settings and nothing has been changed ...ANY SUGGESTIONS?!?! PLEEEASE HELP! IPHONE 3g Windows XP

Problem with SMS tone iPhone

Hi I have a problem with my iPhone..Sometimes when i receive an SMS, the Sound that I have allocated to play when I receive the SMS does not play..This only happen sometimes, and I cant explain why its not playing..All the settings is correct (Volume is up , The SMS tone is set, Its not on silent)Can anyone help me with this!! iPhone 3G Windows Vista
