I have an iPhone 3G 16GB with 3.0 and a new iMac with Leopard 10.5.7. Lately I have been having issues, when I sync my iPhone with iTunes it gives me an error saying iPhone not authorized. Then when I go to play a song in iTunes, they all say Locate. When I go to my External Hard Drive where they are stored, the files are all missing. my hard drive still shows the same amount of space free but the files/folders are missing. If I unplug my iPhone and restart my iMac the files are there again and I can play my iTunes music but if I plug the iPhone back in, the issues presents itself again....How can I fix this? I restored my iPhone but it still does it. 20" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.5.7)
I own an iPhone 3G on firmware 2.2.1 5H11, and baseband 02.30.03. I am also with the carrier Mobinil EGY in Egypt. I own the original data cable (which is now almost completely torn in two) and a replacement cable, samsung iPhone earphones, and iLuv earphones, and the proper ultra-compact charger. However, I have noticed that whether I hook up my iPhone to my computer with either cable or to the wall with either cable, my iPhones chrome part exterior seems to zap me. I dont mean just a little static electricity, I mean an actual flow of electricity. When my iPhone is low on energy and I have to take a call while charging or I want to listen to music while charging, my iPhone actually hurts me, and it hurts me badly. It even eventually leaves marks. I really want to know if this happens to everyone, or if it just happens to me, or if it is a design flaw that has been fixed and if so, if I can get a new handset. iPhone 3G iPhone OS 2.x firmware 2.2.1 5H11, baseband 02.30.03, Carrier = Mobinil EGY
I have been syncing my iPhone with my main machine at home (dual G5 running 10.4) with no major problems but now I want to start syncing with a Macbook pro (intel running 10.5) I bought from work.Maybe I should have used the migration assistant to move stuff over to the MBP but i didnt and I have been using it for a while now so I dont want to loose anything Ive put on it data or application wise. Now I want to start syncing my iPhone with this MBP.Ive got my address book on the MBP thru mobleme but my calendar wont sync for some reason which Im still trying to figure out.my question is what is the best way to get my phone syncing with new MBP without losing anything? Can I just copy my iTunes music folder and moble apps folder over to the MBPs itunes folder?thankspete Too Many<g> Mac OS X (10.5.4)
Ive been having a weird syncing problem since OS3 came out. I have a 3G iPhone 16GB. I sync it with my home PC, Outlook etc. At work I use it for music, and charge it via the USB cord.Ive disabled automatic syncing on the work PC (running Windows XP SP3) so I can just listen to music without worrying about it trying to sync to my work pc. Ever since OS3 was installed, it still starts an automatic sync when I connect it via USB to the work PC.I manage to catch it each time, but Im wondering what is going on with my iPhone and syncing since OS3? Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there a setting on the iPhone that I should be changing as well? iPhone 3G Windows XP Pro

The intention of this topic is to announce to Apple consumer interest in a feature that has long been absent on the iPhone: custom text message sounds. Cheap flip phones have had the feature for years, why doesnt the iPhone? Apple Discussions readers, if you are interested in custom text sounds on the iPhone, please submit an Enhancement Request on the Apple iPhone feedback website: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.htmlThe following is what I wrote in my Enhancement Request to Apple:I am a new iPhone 3GS owner and am generally pleased with my purchase. However, while the iPhone lets me customize my ringtone with songs from my iTunes library, I am limited to 6 choices for the text message received sounds. This is a problem because many of my friends have iPhones, and with the limited sound choices, I frequently mistake the text message sound from my friends phones for my own. At university, this circumstance occurs extremely frequently.my previous flip phone cost less then $50 and was capable of custom text message sounds. The fact that a $200 iPhone does not have this feature after 2 major hardware revisions and software updates is unacceptable to me.I feel so strongly about customizing my text message sounds, that I intend to jailbreak my iPhone exclusively to add custom text message sounds. Please add the ability to customize text message sounds. If not as an end-user feature, then at least as a Developer API.Thank you for your consideration,GregApple consumers pay top dollar for their products. We should not be forced to void our phones warranty to change a Beep sound to a Boop. Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.7) Self-Installed 320GB HD

Hi,I was listening to music on some headphones on my iPhone earlier and now having removed them, my iPhone still seems to think that there are headphones plugged in as I am not getting any sounds & I am not able to hear callers.I have reset the iPhone & re-installed 3.0 but it makes no difference.Anyone have any ideas or had this before?Thanks.. 24" iMac Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Can anyone tell me what the score is with getting decent ringtones onto your iPhone, on the apple site it suggests that via iTunes, this can only be done in the U.S Store. I just want to get a tune that i have downloaded and use part of it as a ringtone. Can anyone help? Also, the sounds you can get from app store which are not proper music can only be updated to ringtones and not be used as text tones, does anyone know about this problem either?CheersCallum35 Macbook iPhone OS 3.0

I have had non stop issues with battery life after upgrading to the 3.0 software. 2.2 was great and never had any issues. Since 3.0 my battery life would drain so fast it was really bad and using the phone as normal was just not happening. After 5 restores even using no backups and restoring as a new phone didnt work. Well I have finally solved my battery problem and you can too!I started with a full charge at 630pm and now at 1230am I am still at 85% with wifi on, fetch hourly, brightness 70%, location services on, checking rss feeds, downloaded two apps from app store, used google and watched youtube. And plenty of texts. Pretty solid if you ask me. So here is what I did.1. Go to Settings app on the iPhone > General > Scroll down to Reset and the select the top option to Reset All Settings This will reset the settings and reboot.2. Now go into your iTunes folder - Home > Library > iTunes > iPhone Software Updates. and delete the 3.0 Firm Ware from the list.3. Now plug your phone and connect to iTunes. Click restore and download a FRESH copy of the 3.0FW.4. Once downloaded DO NOT restore from a back up. set up as a new phone an once the restore is complete, manually add your data by syncing. Again do not use a back up during this process. Just act like you are starting from scratch. (contacts, music, etc.) Please let me know how this works for you. I was about to return my 3G for a refurb because the battery life was absolutely horrible. But this works i swear!!! With no particular reason when I sync iTunes would crash. No new apps or app updates. So I deleted apps off the phone, turned off app sync, etc. Still happened so I did a restore. That helped for a bit, I could at least get my music and podcasts to sync again. So I decided to download a few apps (previously purchased) and again it crashes upon sync even if I then turn off the app syncing. So another restore and all is well again.Deleted backups, removed apps. I thought it was a particular app so after restoring I will turn on JUST app syncing. No matter which apps are selected to sync, it ALWAYS crashes on the second app. So back to crashing again.Defiantly app related and I did do a quick search but no one seems to have this exact same issue.I have not restored and setup as new phone. Important text messages I can not afford to lose. But I am guessing that would be my next step. AL iMac Mac OS X (10.5.5)
i used to have this problem a while ago and just gave up on it but i decided to try again now that i downloaded the new firmware and the problem still persists. when i drag a custom ringtone into itunes to put on my phone it works perfectly fine but then when i go to put another one on it just copies over the first ringtone and then makes itself again. so instead of having 2 different ringtones i have the 2nd ringtone twice and the first one is gone and if i try to do another song it copies over the first 2 songs and then makes another one of itself so that i have 3 of the same ringtones.i have the most recent firmware and itunes .. any help on how to get multiple ringtones? or why this is happening? custom Windows XP
Anyone know if there is anything that can be done to preserve ringtone settings? I installed the 3.0 update, and everything went flawlessly, except (just like other updates) the custom ringtones I have assigned to a few directory entries changed back to default. Not really a big deal for me because I only have a few assigned (my immediate family). But it will be a real pain when I apply the update to my wifes phone. She has a assigned a unique ringtone to nearly EVERYONE in her directory <sigh>.I am extremely happy with the new update, but it seems like such a small data element would not be that hard to backup. Hi everyone,Just a quick question...I was playing around on my iPhone this morning and noticed the auto-lock feature not working as I expected. So I tested the auto-lock feature in three scenarios.1. iPhone not plugged into outlet/computer, listening (or not) to music, auto-lock works just fine2. iPhone plugged into outlet/computer, not listening to music, auto-lock works just fine3. iPhone plugged into outlet/computer, listening to music, auto-lock does not function, only screen dim functions.I am running the new 3.0 OS.Can someone clarify if auto-lock will function when iPhone is plugged into outlet/computer and I am listening to music? I thought my phone always locked under the 2.x OS...but maybe not? Thanks for your help. iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.0

Can anybody help me please? We upgraded one of our iPhones to OS3 today on a relatives computer because of a network connection problem on ours, but just when we thought everything was fine we have an error message when we try to sync music to the phone (back on our own computer) - the sync completes and then we get the error that the phone couldnt be read from or written to.All Im trying to sync is music - generally we have a playlist for each phone, but to try and narrow this down Im synching a number of smaller playlists (50 files in each) to see if that helps. I am able to get a few files onto the phone without the error, but if I keep selecting more playlists and synching again it fails. Using different combinations of playlists Ive managed to get 850 music files on with a capacity of 2.33GB without an error, but adding another 50 song playlist (trying different lists) creates an error. If I unplug, replug and remove the last 50 track playlist it syncs OK again. There are also 23.3MB photos, 217.1MB apps and 299.3MB other on there, but these are not changing with the syncs. Its a 16GB phone leaving 11.89GB free.It isnt stopping the sync on any particular file - it gets to the end (progress bar at top of itunes window) and after the last file has copied changes back to the sync in progress bar then gives the error message. Ive tried it with the last file being different (in case it was a bad file) but still get the error.Once it has errored I have to disconnect the phone and replug it to try and sync again. When I do that the ipod section on the phone itself says updating library then no content, yet in itunes the capacity indicator at the bottom shows the space allocated to audio. Ive tried different USB cables and different USB ports (always on the machine not a hub) but it doesnt change anything. Our other phone was upgraded to OS3 last week at the Apple store and seems to sync OK so far.I suppose it suggests that the phone will accept a certain capacity of files but then no more - does this sound feasible? If anyone is able to offer any suggestions at all Id be very grateful.Stuart. Dell Dimension 5150 Windows XP
Ok so people dont telling me to check this and that Ill explain some background info. Im in Iraq, I have had my 3G iphone since Ive been here. I keep it in Airplane mode all the time since I have a sim but not load on it, there isnt wifi here and being 3.0 just came out my BT has always been off to. Its set to a 1min lock time and the brightness is less than 50% set to auto dim.Basically its an ipod touch with a camera.Anyways I did the 3.0 update and now my battery life is screwed. Before it would last at least 3-4 days no charge, now I have to plug it in every night. I dont play any games on it and also the past week I havent had any music on it since I delete my iphone playlist i had.To be honest its only been my alarm clock for the past two week, so what ever 3.0 did it screwed up my batter life, no lie today alone it was full at 8am when i unplugged it from my notebook and it was almost dead at 11pm.Im pretty ticked about this. I upgraded to 3.0 yesterday. Went smoothly enough. All my datas (Mail, eBook, notes and whatever) were preserved in the process, so I did not realise until this morning that my music Library is reported as empty. The files are present on the device (the device infos report 10gb of occupied place wich is more or less the size of my library) but I cannot read them with the phone.I cant sync for now, but Im worried that my old library will remain, wasting (a lot of) space. Is there a way to activate the library that lies on my iPhone? If all else fails can I actually delete the file so my fresh sync goes smoothly? iPhone OS 3.0
Im using an iPhone 3G with the 3.0 OS, and trying to get music over my bluetooth headphones. The phone connects to the headset fine (theyre paired, the icon flashes when the headset connects, etc), and the headset is reported as fully A2DP compliant. However, when I open the iPod app, the bluetooth icon does not show at the bottom like I expected from the various screenshots floating around... I simply get the old volume slider, and audio still comes only via the speakers or headphone jack.I have tried all the basic solutions - re-pairing the devices, turning things on and off, powering off the phone, etc. Nothing seems to happen. Is anyone else having the same problem? Is it specific to this headphone (the Philips SHB6100)?Does anyone have any advice on how I might get it to work? Thanks in advance for the help! Iphone 3g Other OS

Downloaded a movie the other day on the iPhone, and when I got home synced the phone to my PC, and it transferred over my purchase. After it transferred over, it removed it from my iPhone and then told me it couldnt be transferred back, because my computer was not authorized to play it. I dont have the internet at home, so Ill have to take my computer to someones house to connect to the internet and authorize my computer, however I want to know if it will always do this when I download a movie directly on the iPhone? Its never done that with music Ive downloaded (in fact, I downloaded music the same day, and it transferred and re-transferred just fine). Does anyone know if this will always happen?
This might seem like a dumb question if this is how the phone is designed to work, but when Im using the phone, and the screen is on, the answer/caller id screen stays on the entire time the phone is ringing (as I would definitely expect). However when the phone is locked, the slide to answer/caller id screen goes blank after 2 rings, but the phone continues to ring the final 3 rings (my ringtone is Old Phone). So the only way to see who is calling or answer the phone if I dont get to it by the second ring, when the phone is locked, is to click the home button. So if that is how it is, then I suppose its just a minor annoyance, but if there is an option to change it, or if my phone isnt correctly handling incoming calls, I would appreciate finding that out. iMac 3.06Ghz, uMacBook 2.4Ghz, iPhone 3G S 3.0 Mac OS X (10.5.7) 500GB Hard Disk, NVIDIA 8800GS, 4GB RAM

Yes I know theres like 100 topic on this already so why no ad another one. I work up today to find 3.0 had installed on iPhone. I browsed the web for about 1 hour and my full 100% battery went down to about 80% percent. I went back to sleep and work up 3 hours later to find my battery had gone down another 20%I went to the gym and listened to music while there for 1.5 hours. On my way back home I set google maps on to guide me home just to see if anything was different there, the ride was about 20 minutes. Now, 20 minutes later as of this texting, I have less than 20% of juice. I never have to worry about charging my phone every day with moderate usage, however Im gonna need a charge soon and I did not even surf the web or play games for hours like I normally do. Apple, this is NOT good. Its funny how apple did not want to add background processing to maintain battery, yet the new update is doing away with battery faster than the PRE. cypher red pill

I just bought one the iPhone 3Gs the other day and I have been wondering if it is possible to have the Iphone ring and vibrate when I receive a call and to only vibrate when I receive a text at the same time. I tried setting it on ring mode to a ringtone and vibrate. So that works for calls, but when I receive a text I plays a little tone and vibrates as well... is it possible to get it to just vibrate? I tried selecting none for the tone but then it doesnt vibrate or ring.
With the changes to the bluetooth profiles I think a lot of companies are going to be marketing their headsets to iPhone users.Right now the one set I am looking into is the Jabra Halo. It is nice looking, has numerus features and decent run time of 8 hours when listening to music or on a call. It is not out yet which could be an indication they wanted to test it against the iPhone 3.0 OS software.Which headset are you leaning towards for your iPhone 3G. Im looking into purchasing a gently used MacBook. I currently have a pc (I dont dress like him) and my iPhone is currently synced to Outlook on it, and a few playlists are synced also. When I get the MacBook, Id like to start off by having my current contacts and calendars on it. Is it possible to fire up iTunes on the MacBook and copy everything over? I would most likely use the MacBook as my primary machine, and use the old, slow PC as backup storage for things, and perhaps just keep my music library on it.A simple solution might very well be using MobileMe. One question - if I use MobileMe email, does it support using a different email address for Reply To? I have an email forwarding service that I use that gives me an email address that Ill use for life... I want to keep that email address. Thanks!Harry
A few hours ago I downloaded the 3.0 update. my hubby and I both have the iPhone 3G. It went fine. After a few tries and little difficulty, I got the 3.0 update on my phone. I then synced it with new music and everything. Just a while ago, we plugged his phone in and got the 3.0 update. But now were having problems syncing his phone. On iTunes it will say Backing up Roberts iPhone Then when it gets to Syncing Roberts iPhone the bar underneath freezes and it doesnt sync. I then will go to task manager and on applications it says iTunes--not responding. It keeps freezing up and so I keep ending the process and rebooting and trying again. Weve been dealing with this for about 2 hours now and have tried at least 15 times. What can I do to fix this? Im going nuts! Dell XPS Windows Vista

I dont know if anyone else is having this issue, but on 3.0 on my 3G, the WiFi performance is simply intolerable. I can literally be a foot or two from an access point and initially I get full signal strength but after a few minutes it drops to a single WiFi bar and I have trouble streaming, etc. Anyone else seeing this?
