iphone 3G frozen after recent OS update. Now stuck on restore

Today I updated my iphones OS (original OS - not jailbroken) and after having downloaded the new OS, itunes attempted to install the new OS onto my 3G iphone. when the phone freezes, it has an apple logo and progress bar on the screen. It ALWAYS freezes at approximately 20% according to the phone screen. Itunes freezes at 50% when it is restoring iphone software.I have restarted my iphone over 3 times (by pressing and holding down both the power and the circle button) and the phone does restart but tells me to plug it into itunes. When I plug it into my computer and connect to itunes, itunes tells me i need to:check the iphone software update server to identify this deviceI click check and this works ok. However another error message pops up that says:iTunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used in itunes.I click ok and then press restore and it seem sto work except that it freezes again as i described above.Ive noticed other people are experiencing similar problems and wondered if they have found any solutions to this? Would really appreciate ANY help as at this state, my iphone is BRICK that doesnt work as either a phone, gaming console, or organiser.I am very disappointed with Apple for releasing an OS that in effect disables the core purpose of the iphone (a PHONE!!!) and now have lost confidence in their products. iphone 3G very unhappy custome

Battery barely charges-iphone 3G roughly 1.5yrs old

Ive had this phone for over a year and its battery life hasnt really been that bad up until a few months ago, when I started noticing that I had to charge it every day for it to last throughout the next day.Over the past week or two, Ive noticed a further decrease of life throughout the day. I originally attributed it to elongated usage, but that isnt the case as of the last month or so. With this decreased life, the phone also takes a very very long time to charge. When it is plugged into the USB port in my trucks stereo, it doesnt charge and actually goes down in percentage if being used (if Im using it as an iPod, even with the screen off). Yes, the battery icon does change to a charging lightning bolt icon whenever it is plugged in.The phone will charge very slowly when plugged into a USB 2.0 outlet, and a very small amount faster when plugged into the wall.What should I do? I have apple care on it for another 6 months or so I think...but does that cover battery replacement? Do they even have 3G phones anymore? Would I have to buy another phone? iphone 3G iOS 4

3g problem powering on iphone 3G

i went to use my phone and noticed it was powered off. i plugged it in to charge it after a failed attempt to power on. the apple symbol appeared as tho it were powering on then turned itself off, only to go back to the apple screen seconds later. this process repeats never getting past the apple screen. ive tried resetting it,checking for water damage, and several chargers and no change. Anybody experience this besides me? iphone OS 3.0.1

iphone 4 screen flicker on call screen

I am getting a screen flicker while on my call screen. It appears to happen anytime the data activity indicator goes off. Doesnt matter if I have Wi-Fi enabled or not. screen brightness settings also have no effect. Doent matter if Im holding the phone or laying flat on the table. It seems as though the data activity can be forced to occur when switching from home screen to the call screen, so I made a video of doing that but it happens throughout my calls. I usually wear a headset so thats why I noticed it. Notice the flicker always seems to occur at/around the time of the data activity indicator going off. I havent seen the screen flicker on any other screens except the call screen. I havent noticed this on my wifes iphone, will try the same thing on hers. I have an iphone 3G that I just passed on to another family member after I upgraded to the 4. I was having no problems with it before the pass.After passing it on, I did a complete restore to wipe everything off.Once the new family member had it all set up, they quickly went off to the app store to get some new apps. They found one they wanted, bought it, and it took them back to their home screen and the term Waiting was written under the app. We were in good wifi area. The app literally sat at waiting for minutes.I suggested something might be wrong and turned off the phone. Upon returning it to power, the app quickly switched to loading, downloaded, and installed. No problem.However, downloading apps has continued to have this problem and has continued to require resets. Any suggestions? iphone 3G iOS 4

Drivers install incorrectlyno detected by iTunes super tl dr material iphone 3G

I have an iphone 3G running iOS4.01 and the latest version of iTunes.I dont know how it started. I was updating to iTunes 10 and I lost power to my computer (iphone was not connected at the time). After a reboot, I uninstalled iTunes because it would no longer run (shutdown in middle of installation does that). Then I downloaded and installed iTunes 10.0.0.68. Everything seemed fine. I even bought a song or two. I wanted to sync that song to my iphone so I connected it to my computer. I have set custom sounds in windows so that it lets me know when a device connects. The connect sound plays but the iphone does not start to charge, nor does iTunes pop open, nor does windows explorer pop open with device options. Nothing happens.So I open up devices and it shows me the usual stuff but categorized under unknown is Apple Mobile Device USB or something like that with a warning explanation point ! next to it telling me that there is an error with it. So I right click and select troubleshoot. Cant fix problem. So I open up the (almost) never failing google and start searching. I find a mind-boggling amount of cases similar but usually with an iPod not an iphone and those were solvable. I finally get to one that says that I should try resetting my iphone and making connect in recovery mode. So I hold the power and home buttons down until the iphone turns off. I open iTunes, hold down the home button and connect the iphone. The Connect to iTunes screen appears... and nothing happens. Not immediately, not after 30 minutes. Nothing (except for the iphone timing out and powering off again). So then I take a huge leap of faith and decide to actually use apples support page. After sorting through stuff designed for the mentally challenged who cannot locate the home button, I find http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538 .This is exactly the problem I am having and yet following the instructions brings up problems That I havent seen before.So I follow the instructions like a good dog and locate the driver under Universal Serial Bus controllers and as per the instructions I uninstalled it. I then Scan for hardware changes. This is where the instructions start to seem non applicable. As it said it would, scanning for hardware changes found and installed drivers from the iphone. But instead of installing the Apple Mobile Device driver, I now have a device under portable devices called Apple iphone.This seemed fine but...iTunes still failed to recognize it. Windows seemed to think that the device is some sort of camera (applying a camera icon to it in the simple device manager). Windows explorer popped up this time and I can see all the photos on my iphone and copy them and all but it still wants to think this is a camera. The iphone charges now at least.The instructions continue and I try to follow. It says to search for updates to the Apple Mobile Device driver. Because this is not there and there seems to be no way of getting it there, I apply this to the Apple iphone under Portable Devices. Everything seems to run smoothly until: Click the Browse button, then navigate to the following location: C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. it seems to tell me that if I am on a 64-bit edition of windows (as I am) I should search for it under C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers. but in that location the drivers folder in that location doesnt exist (I dont have 32-bit iTunes installed I guess.) So I go to the C:Program FilesCommon FilesAppleMobile Device SupportDrivers directory instead and not only does the folder exist but the file is there too. The file usbaapl64 is there and the instructions seem to imply that I should use it if I am 64-bit windows. So I try to use it.BAM! Another problem: The folder you specified doesnt contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver (which it does), make sure it is designed to work with Windows for x64-based systems.Seriously. What do I do now? Modified HP Pavillion Elite iOS 4 Windows 7 64 bit.

water damaged screen but still working iphone 4

I got my iphone 4 water damaged. now i turned it off and left it buried in rice for a couple of days. the 2 water indicators are still white. my screen has liquid, specifically, coffee marks inside it. but the speakers are working, camera is working. the only problem im having is my home button is not working so great and my battery is just plain useless now. and whenever i try to sync my ipod(music, videos) it wont work. but i was able to sync my contacts and messages back.my question now is, would apple replace it under the warranty?or am i qualified for the OOW thing? since it is still working. im not sure if you have to have your phone completely dead due to water damage to be eligible. I just purchased an iphone 4 32gb model on Wednesday, September 1st. That friday evening my iphone randomly started turning itself off and was very difficult to turn back on. It also started dropping every call I made after about 10 minutes into the conversation and then completely froze. I could not touch anything on the screen and had to constantly reset it. I went to the apple store today, Monday September 6, and they replaced it no problem. The replacement phone came out of a plain black box and had nothing else with it. I repeatedly asked the genius bar guy if it was refurbished and he told me no. The serial # starts with 5K, which I researched and many people said were refurbished. I dont feel that I should get a refurbished phone when mine was $300 and 5 days old. Im sure there is nothing wrong with refurbished phones but I dont want one when my phone was only 5 days old. Can anyone tell me what they think? I am not a very happy customer right now iphone 4 32gb iOS 4

I just ordered one of the SGP Ultra Oleophobic protectors and was curious about their longevity. I never used a screen protector on my 3g and never had a scratch, but after some of the horror stories Ive heard, I decided to put one on my iP4. Anyway, I dont have much a frame of reference as to how long these things last. Should I expect to buy a set twice a year/every two months? This is my first iphone. Wont go into the issues Im experiencing. Im interested in feedback on those who are not using the iphone keyboard and is using a different one from the app store. Ive owned a ton of PDAs since late 2005 (Palm Treo 700wx, awesome keyboard) but was never into 100% on screen keyboard. The stock keyboard is great but with big fingers I would like bigger keys. Proximity Sensor Woes iphone 3G

Hi. I have recently been having a bit of trouble with my iphone 3G. When making calls the proximity sensor fails to lock the screen, and thus I end up creating havoc with my ears. I presumed this was a faulty sensor, however something else rather interesting has been happening as well, randomly the screen fails to respond during normal use, but continues to function again when I cover the proximity sensors with my fingers. It will sometimes work again if I lock and unlock the iphone. Any ideas? iphone 3G iOS 4

Hi all,As you can tell by the direct subject line of my post, yes, my iphone 4 screen is knackered.My phone slipped off of my office chair today when I put it down mid-text to read an email. Its about a whole foot off the ground, since I like to low-ride around at work. I picked it up, nonchalant, as you do if it has a small fall, looked at the screen and gasped. I never thought they were that fragile!Anyhoo, I was wondering how much it would cost for an iphone 4 screen replacement in GBP from Apple.I phoned their automated system and the nice robotic girl was very helpful at not being very helpful at all. I never thought Id try and argue with The Terminators sister, but I did!Ive decided against insurance since most (if not all companies) are wanting about £100 upfront for any iphone 4 claim + the monthly premiums. Plus trying to claw any sort of solace out of an insurance company usually takes about 6 months.Ive had a look at a couple of third party repairs companies and mobileease.co.uk seems like one of the best bets thus far, although I dont know if theyd use the fabled and genuine aluminosilicate glass. I cant seem to find the price for an Apple repair anywhere online. I was even quoted £60 for an iphone screen via my service provider (Which I think was for a 3G/3GS). I think my iphone 4 could of used a replacement screen anyways, as there were some major scratches around my screen and it was hard to use it in direct sunlight.Thanks in advance for reading my rant,Jamie. So tonight my iphone crashed without reason, I wasnt running any apps. I had just finished showing off how co the face time chatting is when it crashed. Now Im trying to reboot it by holding the sleep and home button for like 10 sec and getting no change in screen. Hi,Something weird has happened to my 3 weeks old Iphone4. All og a sudden the screen has started flashing/blinking and if you look carefully you can see a lot of thin horizontal lines on the entire screen. Its almost like it is interlaced. Red light on next to earpiece iphone 3G

Okay, heres the story: My friend spilt water on me and a little bit on my phone. Immediately, I tried drying it off and the phone was working fine. Later that evening, when I would try to use my phone by pressing the Wake/Sleep button, the screen would come up, but would quickly start to fade away. The phone then turned off completely. I noticed that there was a very small red light on next to the earpiece. It looked like a C with a dot in the middle. I also noticed that the area around the earpiece was very hot. After this, I tried plugging my phone into the wall. I tried taking the SIM card for a bit, I put the phone in some rice, and I plugged it into my MacBook (but the phone wouldnt even show up in my iTunes). The light has turned off and the phone is no longer hot, but the phone still wont turn on.Could anyone shed some light on what to do now?

I knew this before I bought iphone but

The sealed battery is a disgrace. There is NO benefit to the consumer whatsoever, it is purely a built-in obsolescence. Apple want everyone to keep their iphone a maximum of 24 months before upgrading to the latest version. If I want to pass my old iphone 4 down to my family, I will probably need to replace the battery beforehand. To have to ship the thing off for this is ridiculous. I baby my phones, treat them like gold and have front & rear screen protectors and a leather case. When it comes to battery replacement time, my handset will still hopefully be in mint condition. I then have to ship it to some service centre for a bloke with a pile of iphones in front of him to do a battery change. Is this fellow going to treat my iphone like gold? No, to him its just the hundredth battery change that day. My phone will no doubt be shipped back to me, at great expense, scratched-up. Apple could still rape us for batteries, they could charge what they like....just make the **** things replaceable by the consumer!! PC Windows Vista

iphone restoring problems

When i try to restore my iphone Itunes gets to Preparing iphone for restore and the iphone goes to the apple logo for about 10 sec then a small loading circle appears at the bottom of the screen and it stays at this forever or until i hold down home + power button to restart it but after 15 minutes Itunes comes up with error 1603 but i have tried everything on their site to fix that with no luck.Any ideas what i can do to try fix this?N.B. Netflix App Issue iphone 3G

So, I downloaded the new Netflix App, and have been watches movies, shows, etc with it, and it has been fine. However, since yesterday, the app just doesnt seem to work. No matter what movie or show I try to load, it plays for 3-7 seconds, freezes, and returns back to the movie selection screen. It does this, no matter where I am at, no matter if I am on 3G, or ANY WiFi network. Wanted to share this with all. Easy fix at bottom of this postIphone 4 user.My voice mail was not getting through - no tri-tone alert and no sign of the message on visual voice mail screen. Happened over the last 10 days after working properly prior.Called Apple Care rep. Lots of thought, lots of consultation (10 minutes)Advice: take Sim card out and the put it back in and/OR call ATT to address issue.OK... I didnt touch the Sim...called ATT. Rep keeps me on 10 minutes! Could almost smell the smoke of her mental processes as she kept saying OK just one minute about 30 times and lots of questions for me!Finally says she is stumped and gets me to her 2nd level tech person.This person tells me do this simple thing - delete any visual voice mails and then delete all the deleted. Simple as can be. Took 15 seconds. Problem solved.AND... she said its a known issue and that this fix has worked well every time.Worked for me and so far I dont have to keep constantly deleting the VMs to keep it working.I told her, please tell your fellow reps and please let the Apple reps know this as well. Music suddenly starts playing on its own iphone 4

I have a iphone 4 (32GB) running 4.0.2 and over the past week or two I have noticed that once in a while whatever music I have currently paused on my phone will just start to play. In fact it just happened again now. The iphone was just sitting on my desk next to me in sleep mode and the music just suddenly started to play on it. It happened a few days ago as well when I was walking around a store with the phone in the side holster I have. I have tried rebooting the phone (even a hard reboot). Is there some app that might be causing this? Many times it has happened the iphone is in sleep mode (screen locked) so it isnt as if me touching it in some way would do that. My iphone 4G works perfectly

I just wanted to offset some of the complaints on this board so people who are nervous about the phone will know it is a good buy. I havent had any issues at all with my phone. No yellow screen, no reduced reception (i am using the black bumper) and no problems with the camera shutter or email operations. All my functions work perfectly, speakerphone is loud, headphones are clear, and the battery life is great. I guess my question would be am I the only person who has never had any problems with an iphone? Because this forum makes it seem like they are guaranteed to have issues when they usually dont. Netflix crashes after 3 seconds of play iphone 3G

So lets add insult to injury, Not only am I having to deal with the Sluggish non Responsive at times paper weight POS I used to call a reliable iphone 3G before the 4.0 software upgrade, but now after months of waiting for Netflix to release to iphone yep Im meet with yet more disappointment. When I try to watch a Movie I get 3 seconds then the screen freezes and it crashes taking me back to the Netflix pick a movie screen. I have tried restoring my phone new, removing the app re adding it going into the settings and selecting reset all to no avail. I just wanted to post this topic as Im curious if the Apple monster will even read this or address them. I hope I get surprised. Apple makes, hands down, the most high quality of devices, but they tend to have it there way more than ours. I guess thats what makes them Apple. Without further ado, here is my list of bugs Ive noticed and I hope youll add to it. I would just love to see Apple address these:1. Performance issues with Podcasts and multiple-tasking. Youll hear stuttering on occasion, sometimes often while playing a podcast or even music. Ive noticed this at random and also at times when the phone locks or when switching out of the iPod.2. I just noticed this one: if you take the time to write on this exact site, you will find yourself getting lost, as sometimes the text goes on, and the screen doesnt follow it. Suprising that even on the iPhones home site, it cant perform the way it ought to. Youll also notice that below here, its asking me what hardware Im using and what OS. It should be clear what hardware Im on and even what OS Im running. Brilliant, considering this is Apple.com, I selected the iphone 4 section, and the browser can report the os version. Oh wow, I just lost my text again and had to press the expanding icon on the bottom right of this pane. Also, sometimes i lose my text permanently where I should be able to scroll down to find it but there arent scroll bars... The attention to detail of the aesthetics of the phone cant be matched on the outside, but again, leave a lot to be desired on the inside.3. Echo for the remote callers own voice when my phone is plugged into a stereo through the headphone jack. Even when my volume is so low, I cant hear it.4. While heavily texting, if I exit out to the home screen after/during the send of the text, my phone will freeze for a good 60-120 seconds. If I press too many buttons, trying to get it to respond, it will reboot itself instead of coming back to life. Again this only happens (very seldom) when Im sending texts to multiple random people and I abruptly go home while a message is being sent (or maybe received?).5. While playing music, the quality will often drop drastically when entering a game or application that has sounds. This has only happened in two places so far. While talking on the phone, if I go to play music on the iPod to hear in my headphones, and when entering Bejeweled 2 Blitz with the in-game music off and the sounds on, while iPod music is being played. I do not believe this is Bejeweled at fault. Try it, make a call and try and play some background music in your headphones. The quality drops to a very unacceptable level.Thats actually all I can think of for now! Please fix these issues Apple and I will gain a good bit of respect, knowing you heard and acknowledged this. How to exit FaceTime iphone

This may sound like a stupid question at first -- but how doI exit a FaceTime connection and revert back to the voice call…?!I mean, if I can go from voice to video I should be able to go back to voice again, right…?!So far I have tried all buttons and options, but I cant find anything that works…! I can mute the FT call and I can of course hang up and call again, but thats not really a solution…Closest thing I found is pressing the home button, but -- just as in a voice call -- that only takes you to the home screen and you are still on speaker, so thats not it either…Am I missing something here…?! iphone charging help

ok, i need help. i bought an iphone 3g 8gb and replaced the battery with a new one. i plug in the usb cable and a battery shows up exactly as the one on the left from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1476 , a minimum red power battery with one lightning bolt. then like 3 seconds later the apple logo appears, and another 3 seconds the screen goes blank. is my iphone charging? iphone 3g iOS 4

iphone 3g will not charge and buttons dont seem to work this normal

help please, i put in a new replacement battery in my iphone 3g 8gb. then i plug in the usb cable and for a few short seconds the battery shows with very little red power and also the lightning bolt below. then a few more seconds later the apple logo shows, and a few more seconds and the phone screen turns blank, no buttons do anything. is this normal? i once got it to the plug to itunes screen by holding the home and power button, just by luck. but besides that one time, the buttons are unresponsive, and i dont know if the **** thing is even charging the new battery at all. iphone 3g iOS 4

Had glass screen replaced now iphone randomly shuts down

My wife very recently had her glass screen replaced after a nasty crack. Everything was fine for the first 24 hours or so; now the phone continues to randomly shut off. The screen was replaced (for free!) at an Apple Store Genius Bar, not a random cell phone store. Shes performed a couple hard resets, but no luck. At this point Im thinking she should take it back in and have it troubleshot by them, however her time is precious (busy business professional!) so I was curious if anyone on the boards had any ideas before making another appointment...Any input is much appreciated!! Glass Shattered iphone 4

Ive got proof that the glass shattered and im not a happy camper. I was putting something in the trunk and the phone slipped out of my hand and on to the pavement. It was in a case that cost me $35.00 I was sick, had the phone only 2 weeks and the front glass cracked. I went to AT&T and explained what i had did. They were no help here, not covered even if you buy the warranty. So they told me of a phone repair close by. They told me that they could fix it by replacing the screen and it will cost me $179.00 dollars to get it fixed WHAT. Ouch just bought it two weeks prior for $299.00 . What a the huge expense . After hearing all the pros about how flexible the glass is , dont belief everything you read or hear. I still have the phone, tucked away in my purse cause i dont want anyone to see how ugly it looks with the glass cracked. It still works so unhappily im having to make due with what i have very very frustrated. Ive owned a ipod and a previous version iphone, cheaper products by apple that were more rugged and durable, so i am not new to apple products. Perhaps after my contract is up in two years i will not rough be returning to an apple product. What a money making opportunity for a repairman, mine was a simple thing falling out of my hand but what about others who can be tuff on phones because of job, ie contruction workers, cooks etc or how about a family with young children who play a game and start running with it in there hands because a parent is chasing after them to get it back, excited giggling and putting down the phone thinking of the consequences that lie ahead just saying it could happen. I can see this happening the glass shattering. What about people with medical conditions and the phone accidently dropping beyond there control, will it cost $179.00 everytime you do it to replace the screen because afterall we signed a 2 year contract to get it for $299.00. iphone 4 iOS 4

Bumper and Invisible shields iphone 4

I was wondering if anyone here had tried using a bumper and a screen and back protector. I am currently using my Luxe original because I do not want to scratch my back. I would rather use the bumper for cosmetic reasons but do not want any scratches. Basically the question is will the bumper cause the covers to peel up on the edges like the Luxe does with a screen protector.-Ryan Windows 7

iphone 3G no longer recognized by iTunes

I dont know what happened. I havent changed any settings on my pc. I updated my phone software to 4.0.2 last week with no apparent problems. I think Ive charged on my pc since but cant remember for sure. Now when I hook to usb, it goes on and off. Like not the power, but it (the iphone) will connect and show charging and I get the windows message that the apple camera is connected and what do i want to do. then it blinks off, like shows my welcome screen, not charging. then a few seconds later it shows up again and shows to be charging. it goes through this over and over. And iTunes does not recognize the iphone, says an error occurred.Any thoughts or suggestions? Dell XPS 410 Windows XP

Temperature overheating iphone 4

I was sitting at my desk, and my iphone was completely fine, and suddenly the screen said the temperature was off and i could only make emergency calls. i rebooted it and it was fine, again, and i realized i had a missed call. could that call have triggered a glitch?i googled this but i didnt get a lot of results. id like it if my phone didnt glitch so much - does anyone know the issue?thanks! iphone 4 iOS 4

iphone 4 locks up after phone call

Any time I make or receive a phone call, the iphone is locked up for 5-10 minutes after hanging up. Just a black screen, home button totally unresponsive.Luckily, I dont actually use the phone as a phone very much, but its very annoying when I do, and then cant get back on the phone to do anything. restoring iphone software

while upgrading my iphone 3g it stopped working so i attempted to restore. it goes so far then just stops on the restoring iphone software screen. i have tried hard reset but same thing happens when i plug it back in. any help would be good thanks.
