Hi there, Im scott, I dont own an iphone so know nothing whatsoever about them. this is our issue pls help : My sister purchased an iphone 4 from a woman at her work. Her husband upgraded to iphone 5 so sold his old one to my sister. My sister currently has a blackberry on contract to virgin media here in England. She took her BB along with her new iphhone to a local phone shop They cut her simcard down to size and put it into the iphone. When we turned it on we got this message 'only compatible sim cards from a support carrier....... ' I called our current contract to exdplain what we were intending to do and swap settings from a blackberry to her new iphone... they said we needed to contact the original service provider... here lies our issue. My sister works as a nurse.. she called her collgue to explain all this and ask what network he was on. She doesnot kno and her husband isnt home for another cpl weeks he is military. My sister doesnt want to wait a few weeks to use her new phone. Is there anyway to unlock and activate this phone giving all the detials of the phone and confirmation from his wife regarding the new user ? Ive read on the internet about jailbraking and all that nonsense.. but i dont want to damage the phone.. It isnt stolen isnt lost sureley i dont have to 'hack' into a perfectly legitimate phone to use do i? My sister simply wants it to work with her contracted sim .. with the benifits and features iphone offers. Please can someone help... model a1332
This morning i was having a conversation with my boss via Imessage. I have an iphone 5, and he has a 4S. I typed the following paragraph and the sentence "im not at work, im off today" showed up in the middle. I didnt notice it until after the boss asked me about it. How does this happen????? I didnt use siri, i was typing by hand throughout all of the conversation. BOSS:The curator was down all night. Global fix the issue at 5:30 this morning. It is now not working again and global is working on it now. I just called scott and let him know. I left him a message on his cell phone. I just sent this message to nate also. ME: I'm not in the office I'm off today. I didn't know all of that had gone on, so I logged a ticket 15 mins ago.
Hi. Since yesterday's update, which I did over the air, my iPhone has lost LTE/4G connectivity 3 times since moving from Wi-Fi to a cellular area. No internet at all. Airplane mode toggle does nothing. A reboot seems to fix it, but then it happens again. I am on AT&T in Chicago. I had no issues of this kind in iOS 6.0. So to clarify: 1. I'm on Wi-Fi at work. No issues.2. I leave the Wi-Fi area and go to a cellular signal where there is enormous LTE (middle of downtown Chicago).3. There's no LTE/4G icon. Airplane mode toggle does nothing. Toggling cellular data does nothing.4. Reboot seems to correct it until it happens again. Is anyone seeing this? And does anyone have any ideas or fixes? I'm pretty sure this has nothing to do with Sandy or anything on the network simply because a reboot fixes it and it started right after the update. Thanks to anyone who can help.scott
I downloaded the new iOS 6 onto my iPhone 4S. I am trying to use passport but I can not select anything on the app after it opens other the go to apple store and when that opens it says it can't connect to the store. Does anyone know how to start adding things to passport? Thanks scott
I just upgraded, very happily, from a Droid X, to the iPhone 4S. On my droid I made two separate contact lists, for example one of my contacts may have read something like this: John DoeHome: 916-555-1111 Jane DoeMobile: *82916-555-2222 So when I called John he would see an unknown caller, but Jane Jane would see its me. I just touch the appropriate widget. Now on the iPhone 4S I enter the same, and when I use Siri, "she" can call John no problem, but when I ask Siri to call Jane, Siri can't seem to place the call. Of course I can touch the contact and it will call no problem, but in order to go total hands free and take full advantage of Siri, I would have to always call with my number being blocked. Does anyone know of a way to use Siri to dial a number using *82 so I can reveal my number to whom I choose? I have tried all kinds of combos using area codes, dialing a 1 first before area code, no area code even using the 'wait' button so it looks like *82;9165552222, but still have not figured it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. R. scott CruzRoseville, CA
OK folks, I resolved all issues in their entirety with the help of a genius bar tech who recognized that I was very technical. WARNING! Sync or backup your phone prior to performing these steps! First, do a MANUAL download here of the IOS 5 that matches the model of phone you have and save that image to your desktop or some other place on your computer. PUT THE PHONE IN DFU MODE, not recovery mode (google on how to accomplish if you are not familiar). The raeson why you are going to put in DFU mode is so that you will be able to not only get a good copy of IOS 5 installed but to ensure that your firmware is not corrupt, which appeared to be the case with my battery drains and springboard crash issues. One you are in DFU mode (your screen should be black the whole time, again google), open itunes and it will give you a warning that says that your phone needs to be restored. If you are on a mac, hold down the option key and press RESTORE in iTunes. This will open up a box that will allow you to "locate and select" a file, which will be the IOS 5 image that you manually downloaded before. Once you do, the iphone will start to restore. After all of the restore cycles have been completed, you will be prompted in iTunes to either setup as a new phone or restore from backup. I USED RESTORE FROM BACKUP so that I could preserve all of my settings. Everything has been working PERFECTLY ever since completing these steps! I will probably go ahead and make a separate thread related to this fix. I hope this helps! scott

Hi,I dont know how closely Apple monitors these forums, but please revert group texting back to its former functionality before the latest update. It was bad enough, that mass texting became an MMS (which some people cant receive), but now, every response to group text is sent to EVERYONE on the list!!!!Forgetting for a moment that most mass texts are not meant to create a group discussion, even if I wanted to create one, I obviously dont want my group text to start spamming my friends phones without their permission.scott Iphone 4 iOS 4

Help please. My mother has a new iPhone 3G and it wont play any music if the track, or album, has album art. Its the craziest thing Ive ever seen. Ive tried re-syncing it, resetting the iPhone, nothing seems to work. If there is no album art the iPod will play the music fine. Has anyone else experienced this issue, or does anyone have any ideas to try to fix it? Thanks.Message was edited by: scott Loeffler MBP 3.06 4Gb RAM 500Gb HD Mac OS X (10.6.1)
Im using an iPhone 3G with OS 3.0.1. I stupidly deleted a very important text message that I had just received. I have not connected my iPhone to my Mac since the message arrived or since I deleted it. There seem to be many programs out there to extract my text messages from the backups made by iTunes, and some of them work, but there are fewer techniques for recovering deleted text from the phone/SIM itself. Most are for PCs. Does anyone have any experience with retrieving a deleted text message from the iPhone itself? One app I was looking at MobileStudio, was apparently able to do this in prior (2.x?) versions of the OS, where deleted text messages werent really deleted (and some sources say that even the iTunes backup contained the deleted text messages in older OS versions), but the OS 3 version of MobileStudio is still awaiting approval from Apple, and I think the act of copying the app to my iPhone might destroy the info about the deleted text (although having it onboard might protect me in the future). Any advice from a more experienced user would be very, very appreciated. Thanks.--scott Power Mac Pro 2.93 GHz 2xQuad Core Mac OS X (10.5.8)

The Capacity bar in iTunes says my iPhone has a singe Video item that is 1.34gb and 1.5 hours long (sounds like a movie). But on the Video tab Ive deselected all video and on the phone itself there are no videos available. So, where could this video be hiding? My voicemail indicator (red dot with number of calls) is no longer displaying that I have new voicemail waiting. When I actually go into the voicemail section, it shows that I have 2 new vms and displays who deposited them. When I go back to the home screen, there is no red dot over the phone icon in the dock. At March 17th Apple event we all happily heard from Mr. scott Forstall, that iPhone OS 3.0 WILL SUPPORT more languages. Is this meaning that Greek language is finally going to be supported by the new iPhone OS upgrade? Now we are so close to the release date, is there any way, Apple somehow officially inform us whether Greek language is going to be supported, or not by the new iPhone upgrade? 2 x 3 GHz Dual_core Intel Xenon Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Recently upon updating my Craigslist app CraigSearch and after downloading all of the CL apps, I found that Apple has taken upon itself you censor out sections (personals) of CL because They contain offensive content Well I guess switching production of all apple products to China has had an effect. Apple is now thinking like the PRC government and turning the iPhone into the iNanny. What is next? Censoring Safari? Deleting offensive mail before it is pushed through Mobile Me?Answer me this one? How can you censor CraigSearch but not YouTube? We all know there is offensive material on YouTube. What about Safari? Are you going to preload a Net Nanny?I have something to say to all the We have to protect our children people. I say sure, but that is YOUR job to do. I dont care what Hillary has to say about It takes a village. I dont have kids, dont want them and never will have them. So why am I forced to live in a bubble just to protect your children? How about placing the responsibility onto the parents where it should be. Parents today are just too lazy to actively parent. They are out gossiping with several friends sipping their Caramel Macchiatos, oblivious to little Timmy running, screaming and tearing down displays. If you are going to give a kid an iPhone then YOU are placing offensive content into their hands, so you should deal with it yourself. Dont force censorship on my life just because you want to keep your kid in a bubble. Dont force me into that bubble too. If you want true censorship for you and your kid, I suggest moving to China. You will get all the censorship you can handle there. As for Apple, remember the award winning ad in 1984 directed by Ridly scott, where a woman in a track uniform runs into the establishment (i.e. IBM), where the masses are fed propaganda via a large video screen and then she throws a hammer at the screen breaking up the mind control of the people? Well, I suggest you get back to the Steve/Steve 1970s hippy attitude before we all start fitting ourselves with track outfits.Does Apple R&D really read these things? Do they really care anymore? iPhone 3G Other OS

I have an iPhone 3g and have had it since the first day. The problem is it has been working flawlessly up till now. Now for some reason I am losing 20% of my battery per about 30 minutes of it just sitting and turned on. This is from a fresh reboot and power up. Even if I dont touch the phone or start any apps. I have wiped the phone and removed all of the apps and settings. The only thing I have configured on it right now is active-sync to my exchange server. I know I can turn off 3G and such but the phone was working great and now all of a sudden the battery has just gone to almost unusable. An original iPhone was left in a pocket and put in the laundry yesterday, then when the washing machine started, they quickly pulled it out. Im told it didnt get wet, but I had it drying in a warm, dry spot since then. Now when I try to start it, nothing happens. If I leave it alone for a while there are rare spontaneous crackles from the speakers, but nothing on the screen. What are my options now? Is there a way to repair it? If not, is there a way to buy a new one and continue my original AT&T contract? Im feeling desperate and I dont know who to call. Thanks. --scott PowerPC G5 quad Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Apple has released a fourth beta of iPhone OS 2.1 that, according to to sources, removes some or all of the groundwork laid for push services. Apparent GPS directional features have also been removed. Apple has provided no reasoning, though speculation posits that, given numerous issues with iPhone OS 2.0 and 2.0.1, the company may have decided to concentrate on bug fixes rather than introduce new features in the incremental update. The forthcoming push notification service is a workaround for the lack of background process capabilities on the iPhone that will also purportedly enhance performance and battery life for the device. Actual push testing cannot yet occur, however, since no live, public push server has been established. Why is Push so important? scott Forstall, senior vice president of iPhone software at Apple, has said that implementations of background applications on other mobile operating systems are flawed since users think that the applications they have closed are closed but are actually still open in the background. Running these applications in the background results in a significant reduction of battery life. With battery life already dismal when 3G and GPS services are available, push is an important alternative.Developers will be provided with APIs that provide access to these services. These services will be available in September 2008. The service uses a central Apple server that developer servers would use to push information, messages, updates, etc. to the iPhone. However, given the current omission, it’s possible that Apple might miss the September deadline.Apple’s reliability with regard to push has been called in question because of widespread issues with MobileMe. If any portion of the push server infrastructure fails, the user may end up with an application that does not work as intended.Previous versions of the iPhone OS 2.1 contained the following API changes that most thought indicated the addition of turn-by-turn directions in Google Maps or third-party applications. Previously added the following have been removed in Beta 4 from the CLLocation (CoreLocation) library include: CLLocation.heading CLLocation.speed CLLocation.speedAvailable CLLocationDirection CLLocationSpeedGreg Joswiak, Apple’s Vice President of Marketing, has refuted early assertions that GPS-based driving directions on the iPhone 3G are impossible because of the GPS receivers’ size. The iPhone’s GPS is “just like the GPS in other phones, many of which do provide driving directions,” but there are some “complicated issues” preventing driving directions at present “It will evolve. I think our developers will amaze us,” Joswiak said.It remains to be seen whether or not iPhone OS 2.1 will bring relief to iPhone OS 2.0 users who have struggled with a bevy of bugs and performance issues under the current iteration.
Hi - Im now on my 3rd iPhone 3g (16GB, Black) and Im still having trouble with it. As of now I cannot comment on reception/3G issues, since I have only had this particular iPhone for about an hour and a half. However, Ive encountered a strange problem when trying to enter a companys name in Contacts on multiple iPhones after multiple restores from Recovery Mode. Please help me reproduce this and figure out if it is intended behavior or not; both the Rockaway and Bridgewater, NJ Apple Stores did not seem to know. Here is what I am doing:1) Go to contacts (via either the phone menu or the Home Screen Icon)2) Click the plus sign on the top right3) Click First Last as if to type in a name4) Click in the 3rd field, for Company5) Type R.I.T.A.6) Hit backspace once or twice...What occurs is quite strange - the whole text field will sometimes delete itself, click-click-clicking along the way as if I am hitting backspace over and over again.I hope someone can shed some light on this issue.Thanks.-scott 15" MacBook Pro (Early 2008) Mac OS X (10.5.4) iPhone 3G 16GB Black
