iphone 3G frozen after recent OS update. Now stuck on restore

Today I updated my iphones OS (original OS - not jailbroken) and after having downloaded the new OS, itunes attempted to install the new OS onto my 3G iPhone. when the phone freezes, it has an apple logo and progress bar on the screen. It ALWAYS freezes at approximately 20% according to the phone screen. Itunes freezes at 50% when it is restoring iphone software.I have restarted my iphone over 3 times (by pressing and holding down both the power and the circle button) and the phone does restart but tells me to plug it into itunes. When I plug it into my computer and connect to itunes, itunes tells me i need to:check the iphone software update server to identify this deviceI click check and this works ok. However another error message pops up that says:iTunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this phone before it can be used in itunes.I click ok and then press restore and it seem sto work except that it freezes again as i described above.Ive noticed other people are experiencing similar problems and wondered if they have found any solutions to this? Would really appreciate ANY help as at this state, my iphone is BRICK that doesnt work as either a phone, gaming console, or organiser.I am very disappointed with Apple for releasing an OS that in effect disables the core purpose of the iphone (a PHONE!!!) and now have lost confidence in their products. iphone 3G very unhappy custome

IOS 4 make no connection with Mercedes cradle Bleutooth iPhone 3G

My first Iphone 3 wenr dead and Ive got a new one after 4 weeks. In the mean time Ive got a samsung Galaxy. The new Iphone has IOS4. To my surprice the Bleutooth doesnt work anymore. Need to buy a new Cradle for 450 Euros. But that cradle cant charge the Iphone. How can I go back to the older operating software. As the new Iphone got the IOS4 to start with!!!! iphone 3 iOS 4

Iphone not working after upgrade to 4.0.2

After upgrading to 4.0.2, my iphone will not connect to any device. Everything, including my cars stereo system which includes an ipod connector, says that the device is incompatible. Ive heard that the upgrade due out next week will take care of this - but will it really? And, dont get me started on how many times it has crashed, frozen, or been so achingly slow that I want to throw it across the room. i-phone 3G

Battery percentage issue iPhone 4

When I charge my phone to 100% overnight (wall) and unplug it, the battery literally drops to 99% within a minute of usage (email checking etc). It happened this morning and then I rebooted the phone which knocked it back to 100% for an extra 10 mins or so till it went to 99%. It also seems to drop fairly fast...I tried exiting all my background apps which helped a bit but not really. restoring the phone, etc...Ive got push email on, wifi on, push notifications on, Bluetooth off. Right now Im at 88% battery usage with 1 hr 5 mins usage (browsing) and 1 hr 22 mins standby. Does this seem weird?Ive restored with backup, restored as a new phone and same problem. I was thinking it might be a rogue app but Ive exited everything - an app couldnt cause battery drain just by being installed could it? Dell Windows 7

Question about screeningrejecting calls etc iPhone 4

Hi, Im new to the forums as of today. I had a 3G for a while, upgraded because of the OS4 issues (to a samsung Galaxy) then went back and ordered an iPhone 4 instead because, well... I love the interface, apps, and my iTunes music that I was unable to port over. Not a fan of the mp3/computer interfacing of android phones, I think the sync stuff with iTunes is far more user friendly. But...onto my real issue/questionLong story short, I did like one feature from the Galaxy and that was to auto-reject a call with a filler text message such as Im driving or will call back, and I cant figure out how or if we can do this on an iPhone.Ive done some research on this and some google suggestions such as http://www.programmerfish.com/send-auto-sms-on-iphone-4/ say this feature is automatic on this phone since its an iPhone 4 but every time I double click the power button it just sends the call to voicemail with no such interface to send a reject message etc. Does anybody know what the deal is? iPhone 3G under iOS4.0 wont charge properly

Ive been experiencing a lot of issues after updating my 3G to iOS4.0 and I fully agree with the other topics reporting about draining batteries, inappropriate responsiveness of the touchscreen due to lacking memory, etc.Steve, that update has ruined my great iPhone 3G and the current situation is unsatisfactory! The way Im feeling now is quite comparable to the time I changed from my Windows Mobile 5.0 phone to the iPhone 3G - but now the other way around - all the great touch responsiveness has gone and the device feels so lame!The most annoying issue however is, that the phone wont charge properly anymore. Let me describe:So after having freshly booted I plug in my 3G with the original charger (same situation when I connect via USB to my PC) and my Phone starts charging. The battery gets warm/hot, the percentage starts increasing and I see the icon displayed in the top bar.However after I open some applications, do my mail, write some SMS etc. I noticed that my phone isnt actually charing any more?! Well the charger-icon up right is still displayed, the battery is still getting warm/hot, but my battery percentage is already decreasing! This even goes so far that it runs out of battery and turns itself off while its connected to the power-supply!Rebooting the phone makes it charge again - however only until you start reopening apps.Well my solution until now: Plug in your phone in and turn it off - that at least makes the phone charge properly but is very annoying! iPhone 3G iOS 4

Bottom of touchscreen suddenly not working. Cant unlock. iPhone 3G

My iPhone 3G was working perfectly until a few hours ago when the bottom of the touchscreen suddenly went dead. I was playing games on it with absolutely no issues, then set it down and of course it locked. I went to unlock it a while later and nothing happened. The first thing I tried was rebooting it, which is how I found out the TOP of the screen works since the slide to power off is at the top, and worked fine, but I couldnt cancel since thats at the bottom. I have also already tried restoring it with no luck.I know this is a long shot because I have been all over the internet hoping for a fix but I figured it couldnt hurt to ask if anyone has any other ideas. This is my only phone and its completely useless. To top it off my warranty ended earlier this month. If it comes down to having to pay for a repair, it might just be cheaper for me to upgrade to a completely different phone. Hi, I`m new to the forum, a while ago I had my phone connected to ITunes and it got disconnected by accident, so I had to go the Apple store to have it fix, after i got all my info back in the iphone, I tried to pair it again to my /09 nissan rogue, but for some reason it won`t. hi everyone, i tried yesterday to update my phone with the new software, whilst in the process it froze. i decided to unplug it from my computer and my phone stayed frozen. i then put my phone in recovery some how lol. i went to restore my phone and this also kept freezing. i then deleted itunes and re installed it now its saying i cant restore at bthis time and need to try later. i have tried every trick on the net for rebooting my phone and nothing is working. the screen just stays on a cd with itunes and a usb cable. my phone is stuffed and i really dont want to loose everything off it as i have pics of my newborn baby on there. i cant speak to anyone as all my contacts are on my phone. help help please.vickie iPhone OS 3.1.3

iPhone freezing

At various screens, it freezes... After a moment or so, it would go to the power off screen, yet when I went to slide to off, it was still frozen. Almost like major lagging, like the old dial-up days.Ive reset and restored a few times. I have 3.51 GB space available.Anyone else having these issues? MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Dropped frozen and wont turn off iPhone 3G

I dropped my iphone from my desk to the floor, maybe 2 ft...screen is now white with some black stripes on one side. It will not turn off...Ive tried the off/on and home button together, not together, for 10 sec, for 30 sec, forever...the only thing that happens is the screen reverses to black with some white stripes. Howdy,I have a first generation iPhone.Yesterday, I found that I could not dial any phone number that had a zero.If I touched the zero on the keypad, the 8 became blue (as if I had touched it) and an 8 was entered on the display as if it were the number I had touched.No, this is not caused by my being fat fingered. I have been extremely careful in experimenting with all this.For a while, it seemed that the touchscreen was working properly for all functions but the phone. Then, about an hour ago, I tried to touch Settings-General but when I touch General I am brought to Mail, Contacts, Calendars which is just below General.I will add that I have restored the phone to the newest version of the software, but now strongly suspect this to be a hardware issue.The phone is long out of warrantee...Would it make financial sense to repair it, or should I just replace it?Many thanks for any thoughts,A.C. iPhone iPhone OS 3.1.3

SMS Issue-Cannot tap into text input area iPhone

Hey GuysI got an iphone4 today and so far I have to say im really enjoying it and am very impressed with it. Though I do have an issue with one of the most fundamental mobile phone features.If I create a new sms, I can type in the recipient field and choose who to send to, but when I try and tap the text input area to type my message, the cursor doesnt move to that area so I can therefore not send any sms messages.I can receive them however, but when I try and tap the screen somewhere around their bubble in order to reply, I get no keyboard. Help-Iphone frozen on SMS screen reset troubleshooting not help 3G

Hi,I woke up this morning to find my Iphone completely frozen, on the SMS screen. Please help! My iPhone has just frozen and all I have now is a black screen and the white bit at the top where it says the time, provider, signal etc. So the phone is still on as I can still get calls but I dont have access to anything and I cannot reboot the phone. Hi,Im totally new to the whole iphone/itunes thing! I know im totally behind with time!!Anyway, i bought a 2nd hand 3G iphone locked onto o2, and i needed to get it unlocked onto Orange. This has happened since I updated to OS4 but am noticing it now consistently. If I make a phone call at any point, leave the phone app to do anything else, then come back, the phone app will be completely frozen until I do a hard reset.I just got done testing it with a friend, me on my 3G (now running 4.0.1) and him on his 4 (same firmware for him). I just got my new 4th gen iPhone, and am getting ready to transfer items from my 3G. My daughter has a samsung that is part of our family package with ATT. Ok. Worked just like everyone else phone before the 4.0 update. No hacked/cracked or jail broken 3G just your average user here. After the LOOOONG update, my Battery life goes from an already shot life (but at least a day use) to 40 min to 1 hour of sloppy use and then the 20min warning that gives me not 20min BUT 3-5MIN!Phone is slow to open ITS own apps such as text. Ok trying to deal with my phone lagging 20-30sec just for the text app to show on the page, then typing much faster than the keyboard can keep up )Folks im a slow typer ok) and it lags to keep up with me! now remember it already is lagging so it takes 2-3 pushes of a contact name to even start the typing!All other apple apps NOTES opens slow laggy, the camera (oh lord dont let there be something i need to take a fast pic of because its was an already slow app now just SUPER slower..same with contact use or PHONE use. When I type in a phone number to call, nothing is shown on screen for a few sec! NOT EVEN 911!!!! bad apple, bad 4.0! this is nuts, hey, I paid for my phone like the rest of you, I got suckered into the 2 year FORCED contract that ATT has if you even want an iphone why is my phone laging, slow and at times frozen, even after a FULL reset through itunes??Oh and by the way, I did the test account (you know no apps installed but only apples, and still lag lag freeze! not to mention no solution for me other than PLEASE GO TO bla bla bla apple support and post there your problems, Thank you for calling apple, oh yes sir you do have the extra support that you paid for, but have a nice day and please do post on our website!!!!!!) so i get past the data back up luckly, and i leave so my phone can update while im gone. When i come back, itunes restoring bare is at 50% and my phone has the apple logo and bar at 10%. I figured it was a long download but long was that it spent all day there after 2 attemps. Ive reinstalled Itunes twice all six components, changed cables 3 times even attempted a forced recovery. nothing called apple and they dont know ***. They tell me it might be my flash memory and if it is then im F$%^ed. Has anybody else been having this problem? BTW i cant even get on my Phone. toshiba Windows 7

So I went to install the new 4.0 update and as you probly well know you must restore first. Well, after a few minutes I receive an erro saying the restore could not be completed. I have no idea why. Hey everyone. Ive got a iPhone 3G and iTunes 9.2 on my PC running windows vista. I was updating iOS4 yesterday and spent almost all day to download, backup and etc. Finally I gotta really install it on my iPhone. But while restoring iPhone software, the progress bar had stopped at about 25%. The progress bar on the iPhone had also stopped, but less than the one on the computer. Then I unplugged my iPhone, i turned in recovery mode. I tried to restore it, but it doesnt work at all. Later I kept my computer switched on and let it restore overnight. But this morning, everythings the same. The progress bar has been frozen since last night. Few hours ago, I tried on my mums HP. The problem remained. Messsage app freezes iPhone

This has happened three times since I got my iphone 4 last week...The Message app gets in a state where it is viewing a conversation, but the title bar at the top is completely blank -- no title, no buttons. At that point, there is no way to return to the message list or delete the conversation being viewed. The only way to get the app out of the frozen state, afaik, is to power cycle the phone.This never happened with the 3g.

Hi all.While updating my iPhone 3G from 3.1.3 to iOs 4, my father called me. I dont know why, but I think it was troubleshooting : In fact, I cant turn on my iPhone anymore.The iPhone boots (I see the white Apple logo on dark background), and then a progress bar appears under the Apple logo. At about ten percent, the progress bar freezes, and then the iPhone reboots. It does that whithout stopping.When I connect the iPhone to my iMac (5th gen, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU), and launch iTunes, I can see the iPhone only if it is displaying the progress bar. iPhone 4 Disconnects Call on Lock

Ive noticed a big change on how the iPhone 4 (more likely iOS4) handles the lock button when on a call that my previous iPhone 3GS did not. Theres no way to lock the device when on a call! If you are talking directly into the phone and press the lock button, the iPhone hangs up the call, even if you are on the Home screen or inside an application!If you are on speaker phone or using a hand-frees headset, and you press the iPhone lock button, the call will stay connected BUT if you are just talking normally the call will disconnect. WHAT??? What was Apple thinking adding this. If Im walking down the street with no headset, and I want to lock my call while talking, my only option is to switch to speakerphone? This is especially annoying if youre like me and sometimes hit mute/hold/keypad with the side of your head on the touchscreen while talking. Downloading iOS4 destroyed my iPhone 3G

I installed Apples new iPhone operating system, iOS4, yesterday and have had nothing but problems with my phone since. First of all, it required me to back my phone up both before and after I downloaded the software from Apple - a two-hour process each time. Finally after watching the phones progress bar drudge along for four hours, I started actually installing the new software. It would get about 60 percent done and then show an error message. The phone would freeze and stay on the progress bar, and reseting it only brought it back to the same screen.After about another hour of struggling with iTunes to recognize my frozen device, I finally got the software to begin downloading. Naturally, it froze several more times after nearly an hour into the process and required me to start over. But finally - after over six hours of not being able to receive a text or phone call - Id installed iOS4 on my iPhone.I wish I could say Im surprised, but my phone became essentially useless after installing iOS4. The phone cant make or receive calls, and it freezes when I open an email. For some reason, I can still text, surf the web and use 3G/WiFi-enabled apps, but I cant use the phone or mail client.My phone worked completely fine before installing this update. I shouldve know better than to update to a new OS when it first came out, but I had absolutely no problems when I updated to iPhone OS 3.0 last year.Now, an easy solution is to say, Oh, thankfully the new iPhone is out soon. Well, I dont exactly have $200 to blow on a new phone - especially considering I had a perfectly working phone as of yesterday.Does anybody know if there any updates to the iOS4 scheduled to work out some of these bugs? iPhone 3G iOS 4

Error-9812 iPhone 3G

Hi, has anyone else encountered this error? Ive contacted Apple but have had no reply and a search hasnt encountered any similar errors. Im using an Iphone 3G and upgraded my itunes last night to 9.2.0.61 in order to get the iso4. Its as though the phone has frozen and all I get is an image of the USB connection for iTunes. Im using windows xp and tried this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925. Nothing. I tried restoring my Iphone through this : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925. Nothing. When I connect to Itunes, it recognises an Iphone is present, but that is it. I cant do anything and the USB connection image wont go away. I then subsequently get the -9812 error on my iTunes. I dont have another computer to try my iphone on. If anyone has encountered similar problems with the -9812 errors and more importantly solutions it would be nice to hear. Thanks. So Im stuck on the USB plug connecting to iTunes screen on my phone and cant restore it or update it because of this error code.Ive used 3 different USB cables, and 3 different computer systems on each USB port.What can I do? iphone error 402653144 cant be identified-happened during update 3G

I was in Itunes and got the cue to update my iphone and when I did I got the error message. I have:updated my computer software to 10.6 on Macbook 5,2intel core 2 duousing itunes 9G3 phoneResult - screen frozen with Apple icon and bar underneathNOt a clue as what else to do. Any Ideas? MacBook 5,2 iPhone OS 3.1 not sure - have done update before this mess

We have four 3GS phones, today two of them locked up, emergency calls only. Tried syncing to iTunes, phone re-set to default, re-booting, and re-installing the sim card. The two that locked up are on the Beta iOS 4 that you can get as an app developer, they have been working fine with the new OS for over a month. Any ideas to help get the phones working again? iPhone OS 3.1.3

Hi All Ive had my iphone for 1 year now. about 3 months ago I dropped it and smashed the screen. stupidly, I didnt take out insurance on it. I decided to buy another screen and replace it myself there voiding any warrenty. after replacing it the screen has worked perfectly. the other day I tried to make calls and the sreen started to jump from app to app not opening up what I wanted it to. now the screen is frozen on my home screen showing the time (which ticks over fine) my personnal background image, but I can not swipe to get to apps. its tottally non responsive. Ive tried all the tricks like rebooting, and also resetting it to the manufactures settings. Im guessing its a hardware fault.Where do I stand with getting apple to sort this problem out, bearing in mind it has a non apple glass screen?I use this as my bussiness phone and I am in desprate need of getting it working asap.

HELP..My iphone has frozen, it lets me both slide to switch off and restart but i cannot slide to unlock or type in my password. I have also tried to reset it through itunes which i can do up until I need to unlock my sim-which i cannot do as frozen.....is there anything I can do from home to fix this?? thank you in advance for any advice 3G its only 2 months old

Using iPhone as MacBook remote 3G

Hey everyone!I got a remote app for my iPhone and I love how it turns the iPhone into a touchpad, and also has the keyboard. The apps name is TouchPad.However, I still need one more thing and I think that app doesnt do that. The situation is: I have the MacBook plugged into my samsung 32 LCD TV, and the idea is to watch a movie from my bed across the room. But I wanna listen to the sound through my headphones, and obviously I cant have a cord hanging across the room. Is there a way I can get the sound from the MacBook to play through the iPhone too? That way I could plug the headphones into it and listen? Of course I could just get a wireless headphone set, but thats exactly what Im trying to avoid here... MacBook Pro 17" 2.66MHz Mac OS X (10.5.7)
