Does anyone have any idea if there is an app or a way to manage your ringtones in terms of time of the day? During work hours, I would like my ringtone to be a vibrate, or something unobtrusive, since its quiet. However, outside work hours, Id like it to be something more obtrusive so I dont miss it. This is similar to profiles for blackberry users. Any ideas? I dont see anything in settings, but not sure if Im missing something, or if there is an app that would provide this functionality. TIA. 3G
Im a new iPhone user and have searched and googled for an answer to my question, sorry if this has been discussed previously. Are music flies the only custom ring tones available to the iPhone? My wife has a LG Spyder and she is able to bluetooth custom ring tones between coworkers (crocking frogs, quaking ducks, etc...). Are similar ring tones available for the iPhone? I realize you can create custom ring tones via iTunes using music files but Im really not interested in that. I run a iMac at home but am synced up at work via Microsoft Exchange. Thanks for your help. iMac Mac OS X (10.5.1)
Is it possible to use the iPhone 3G as just a phone? Ive read other forum posts about people turning off their edge/3g networks to prevent their iPhone from connecting to the internet and at he same time retaining the voice plan. I was told by the ATT CSR that the iPhone 3G uses the internet to make and receive phone calls and removing it would be suicide because they charge $10 a kilobyte, is this true? I just need people to confirm what the truth is and such. My friend wants to know if he can remove his iPhone 3G data plan and still be able to make phone calls with his iPhone 3Gthanks! I have the iPhone 3G. The sound for the games worked when I first got the new phone but now it doesnt.. I have done everything I know to get the sound to work (turn up volume, sound settings, etc).. Still nothing..The iPod feature plays sound through the external speakers so I can still listen to my music files. The telephone part works.. Even Pandora will play sound.. Yet Bejeweled, iSlots, and a few other games will not play the sound that I know works on others iPhones..Any suggestions? Dell LapTop Windows Vista
1. I have now updated my Iphone three times. This last update was to 2.2 from 2.1. My Lenovo X300 WIN XP PRO will not finish the installation it just hangs checking the phone. I have to connect the phone to another computer preferably a Mac and then complete the recovery process. I know many others have had this problem. Any hope for a solution?2. The second problem was the most frustrating. After updating to 2.2 my downloaded programs had disappeared. During the software upgrade process it did a successful backup and I restored after updating (otherwise I wouldn’t have had my contact music etc.). The phone seems totally normal and is running 2.2 however my downloaded program is gone.M Petersen Lenovo X300 Windows XP Pro

I was very exciting to hear during todays keynote that downloading from the iTunes store would now be available over the 3G network. But this option only seems to be available with music and not Podcasts. Or am I doing something wrong? Can anyone else download Podcasts over the 3G network? Hi, I have an iPhone 3G, 2.2, newest iTunes version.I have a problem with the synchronisation, hope anyone can help. After connecting the iPhone to my PC iTunes starts syncronisation . Contacts, calendar, ok. Then it stops like finished, but it didn`t sync my music playlist and the apps. The box in music and Programs is marked. Before the 3G I had a 2G, everything was ok, never had problems. Many thanks for your help! iPhone 3G, 2.2, Windows Vista
Does anyone know if iPhone has a way to change boring ringtones for incoming e-mail or text message to a custom ringtone. I have custom tones that say you have mail or message and would like to change them. I can not find if it is possible to do this. If it is not would apple consider changing that issue as an improvement for upcoming software so all iPhone sounds could be changes or is there a reason they could not be?Thnaks iPhone 3G Windows XP Pro
Ok Ive tried syncing my iphone to itunes and it just says Sync in Progress. It never stops. Now it makes it through the Backing up iPhone portion but as soon as it gets to syncing contacts, it just sits there saying its Syncing contacts with iphone. Now Im not sure why its doing this, this just happened out of nowhere, so Ive even restored the phone twice, once as a new phone and then again with the option it left from restoring it the first time. It syncs the music, apps, and videos when I uncheck everything in the Info tab, such as contacts, calendar, etc. So its something to do with everything in the Info tab. But how do i fix this problem?? = Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)
Two really annoying things that continue to drive me up the wall:1) Every time I want to transfer pictures onto my phone or maybe just even one new song, why does iTunes force me to do a complete backup of my phone? What would take 10 seconds ends up taking 20 minutes for absolutely no reason.2) Why when I opt NOT to sync all of my apps, does it tell me it will remove Them from my phone completely? No! Why would I want them DELETED? Since when does not copying over something that is ALREADY ON THE PHONE mean that I want them deleted completely from the phone? It doesnt make any sense. None. If I dont have them all checked, it will delete the one not checked.I tried to NOT sync my apps so that I could speed up the process of just syncing my photos. So it tells me its going to delete all my apps if I do that. iTunes is such a miserable failure in the world of Apple/Mac which dominates the logic/useability world in every other arena. It continues to confound me the absolute poor structure, logic, and programming of their flagship software app.I mean seriously, how hard is it for this application to know that its already got all my apps both in itunes and on the phone? Every time I connect it, it starts copying over my apps all over again. Why? Is this 1983 when it cant tell if the app has been updated and needs synching? If someone can give me some input on these items I would appreciate it. VAIO
Hello. Ive recently had some hard drive issues on my laptop, which forced me to reformat my hard drive. My iPhone now thinks I am using a different computer, which I guess means I need to resync and delete everything on it. What a pain...I have some pretty straight-forward questions, and Ive searched the forums looking for answers but havent found any yet, so excuse me if these are asked 1,000 times a day:Will backing up my iPhone really do me any good, in the long run? I guess Im confused about what actually is preserved by doing this. What exactly is lost during a new sync? Will I lose all of my contacts, text messages, and pictures? Or will it just be any music and pictures Ive synced via iTunes? I want to know if I need to type out the numbers and contact info of everything. What about all of my apps? Are they completely gone? Thanks in advance for any help.
I bought an iPhone 3G several months ago and the earbud stopped allowing me to answer calls by pressing the button on the earphones or pause music. I purchased a new set and shortly after the button stopped working on the new set too. Is this a problem with software or hardware?
Is this possible. I load and sync my iPhone at home using a PC. I also want to take it to work and plug it into my Mac to listen to the music that is one it but do not want to sync it at work. What is the best way to set this up?
I attempted to enable restrictions for Explicit music on my phone, but when i enable restrictions, it enables restrictions for everything like safari, youtube etc although i have disabled the restrictions for these applications. Think this is a bug and was wondering if anyone knew if a fix would be out for this soon or am i missing something here. Does anyone else have this issue?
I had to do a restore from backup on my iphone today because an app just totally messed up the phone. I restored from back up successfully i think all my info was back on the phone. The only problem is that now, since this is the first time that this has ever happened to me, when i try to sync it wont do anything. For example, i added new music to itunes, my settings are to sync automatically, but it wont do it, i manually have to take the song file and drag it to iphone icon on left hand side of itunes when the phone is connected for it to sync the song to the phone. I also now have to do this with ringtones that i make, and videos. When i go to the music section while iphone is connected and it says automatically sync selected songs, it did give me a message like if you check this, all your videos and songs will be deleteed. This problem have begun yesterday when i´ll try to sync my photos, and some music, it starts very wel but it never stop syncing, i´ll try to do it a lot of times but always the same, the fact is that it syncs the music the apps but not the photos, i´ve unchecked the photo sync, but anyway it neverstops syncing.Hope you can help meThanks dell inspiron 1525 Windows Vista

Hello. I am finally considering an iPhone. Can I use my iTunes and my licensed music on both the 60GB iPod AND the iPhone? I am assuming yes, but figured I would ask the experts. It is really the only thing I cannot find out about the phone. Is it an easy process? Thanks in advance! PC Windows XP

The Help file for iTunes on Syncing media with iPhone has the following entry: Click the tabs (music, Photos, and so on) and select the items you want to sync.To sync only certain items, click Summary, select “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox, and then click the other tabs and select the items you want to sync. I am confused about this because the “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox seems redundant in the following sense. Even if this checkbox is NOT selected, iTunes allows me to select the items I want to sync under each tab.If the “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox is NOT selected, then under the music tab, for example, I would rather expect NOT to be able to select particular items to sync. Can anyone explain this? Why does syncing contacts with outlook 2007 still not work correctly? I stopped syncing contacts a while ago because when I did my contacts in outlook always got messed up. So now since Im sick of the poor performance on my iphone I decide to finally do a restore. So in the kb it says to do a sync before you do the restore to make sure everything is synced up and you get a good backup, so I do that, and decide to sync the contacts to make sure any contacts I have on the iphone get transferred over to outlook. When I did the sync of contacts any contacts that were not in outlook, but were on the iphone are now gone. If the contact was not in outlook, but was on the iphone it got deleted from the iphone instead of transferred over to outlook. Itunes gave me the warning about more than 5% changing, but the warning didnt have anything under delete, so why did contacts on the iphone that werent in outlook get deleted? I lost alot of contacts. Also it modified some of my outlook entries and removed numbers from people who had multiple numbers even though those multiple numbers existed in both outlook and on the phone, but the sync decided to randomly remove some of the multiple numbers from both places. So now my contacts are completely screwed up. (what a piece of work this thing is)Is there any way to get them back to how they were? Does the iphone backup hold my contact info? Hello,Im not sure wether this is the right place to post this but im gonna anyways incase someone can help!OK so i got an iphone 3g, its a few months old, nothin wrong with it. But today i connected it to my computer to charge and its not showing up. Not on itunes or under computer. And also the connection sound does not play when i connect it. At first i thought it was my cable, but when i connected it to my computer whilst the iphone was switched off, it automatically switched itself on. Ive also tried it in different USB ports but nothing changes.SO basically i cannot charge, update or manage my music or pictures on my iphone at the moment.Any ideas? Thanks PC Windows Vista

Does anyone know if you can have apple remove the dust under the screen if you are under warranty? Like will they service the iphone for that? And if they do, do you know if they will completely replace the iphone, or will they just remove the screen and fix it?Thanks Mac OS X (10.5.5)
after several months of having my iphone, and it breaking, I went in to the apple store to speak to an iPhone Genius. The name of his job title, aside from being very arrogant, was far from the truth!!Anyway, he couldnt answer my questions, and suggested i should post them to apple. The iphone either lacks a lot of features which even my first Nokia had, or i just cant find them. Wonder if anyone can help:Forwarding Texts:cant forward a text. This is annoying, as if someone sends me some info in a text i wish to send on, i cant see how to forward, nor how to copy and paste the info into a new txt.Red Button:Wheres the reject call button? If my phone is on the lock screen when it rings, the only option I have is to answer or silence it. Silencing the ringing is no good, as people often hang up before Voicemail kicks in.Snoozing Reminders:if i have a calendar reminder, cant see how you snooze it. Missed loads of appointments and reminders with this one. Very easy to loose the reminders from the screen, and then not see them. There are so many more things that thoroughly disappoint me about this phone - the bluetooth stack, the 3G/GSM implementation, cant change the home screen background from black, cant have your own ringtones - or even set a MP3 song which you have bought on itunes as a ring tone, etc etc. However, these are more annoyances than show stoppers.I hope someone can help with the top three above, or maybe, someone in apple might see this post and suggest to include these rudimentary features that have been present in phones since mobiles went digital in the next software release. Or maybe someone knows a way around these annoyances to make the phone usable, for me, at least. iPhone3G None

i drive a 2009 camry that comes with an aux input that i use to listen to music with my 1st gen iphone. whenever i receive a call however the audio is automatically routed through my car stereo, which sounds great, but i cant talk into my phone to talk to other person. they just cant hear me.is there a seting i need to set on the iphone.simply put, id like to be able to hear the caller through my car speakers while holding the phone near my mouth to speak to them.
I have an I-Phone 3g with the current version of the software. I recently added my works Exchange email accesss and when I did the Iphone required a passcode.I went to SETTINGS - GENERAL - PASSCODE LOCK it shows it is on.I hit the tab, enter my passcode, click OK and under REQUIRE PASSCODE it shows Immediately. I can change the time to a longer period before is requests the passcode 1 min or 5 minutes - but I cannot disable it!Nor can I remove the ERASE DATA ofter three successive trys.To add insult to injury, I accidentally hit the Emergency Call button on the passcode screen, canceled it and when I entered my passcode it did not recognize it. I cleared out the old code, re-entered the correct code and it still did not recognize my passcode. Then it ERASED all MY DATA on the third unsuccessful attempt.I restored from my December 31, backup on Itunes, (45 minutes later) I tried the same thing to see if it was recurring and it was. This time I did not try to enter the code a third time, I turned off the Iphone, and then restarted it. Thankfully it reset the memory or something and the correct code (which I had been entering all along) was accepted. This is happening every time the Emergency Call button is pressed on the passcode screen. I have found a temporary workaround, but this needs to be fixed on about three levels.FIRST - The passcode needs to work when returning from an emergency call.SECOND - We should be ale to decide if we want a passcode on our phone and not have it forced upon us.THIRD - If this is for e-mail security, then the passcode should only be required when accessing the e-mail application not the entire phone. So, comments suggestions, or any ideas are greatly appreciated, I want to remove that passcode.....help.I want to remove the requirement for the passcode, but I can only change the passcode, nor disable it, any suggestions? HiI recently purchased a iPhone 3G , however i have a big problem with the headphones ( the official ones that come in the box ) , they dont work.......at all.I am using 2.2 firmware. I plugged them into the iphone and tried to turn on music , the music plays through the speaker and nothing comes through the headphones, The same with calls. , I have tried cleaning the headphone jack by putting in and out the headphone jack a few times and rubbing the inside with a needle.I have also tried resetting the iphone , I even restored it through iTunes.I also tested the headphones on a iPod Touch and they work okay so i am guessing its a hardware problem with the iPhone. The only thing i can do is send the iPhone back and get it repaired i guess? or is there anything else i can try?ThanksAlan Medion Windows Vista none

First of all Ill apologize, as Ive only found one post on this subject, and it wasnt all encompassing.Im going to by buying an iPhone, to replace my current iTouch. Is litterly all I have to do is come home with my iPhone, and plug it into my mac, and then sync all my libraries ? This is to include photos, apps, music, mail and calendar. I dont want to come home and try to sync and then it blast all my music or playlists etc off my computer, and replace them with the emptyness. I might litterly cry if that happens Thanks for the info! MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.4)
I know there some posts on this earlier, but I could not find the thread. Anyway, twice in the last week, I plugged my headphones in to make a call, but I got a meeting cancellation before I dialed in. After receiving the cancellation, I took the headphones out, and out of the blue, the iPhone just started to play music (not from a playlist, but from all songs).Ive seen posts on this before, porobably sometime last month, and Ill admit, I did not think it happened the way it was described...but now its happened twice to me in the last week.To duplicate the problem, insert headphones (from the home screen), goto Phone, choose keypad, press the home button, remove the headphones. Sometimes it starts to play (othertimes, you can see the play icon briefly before it disappears). Its a strange quirk that I am wondering if others can duplicate. I am fully aware of the restrictions on this phone and feel the need to express myself on the forum and release the frustration with the lack of customizable functions/features the iphone has, if possible I would like to change the black screen, add ringtones to my text message alerts, and maybe possibly delete some icons/programs like stocks and world clock from my display. CAn someone from Apply or steve jobs look into that for me, I have been in many forums and it seems like everyone is having the same issues...could it be that apple just doesnt care what we are saying? Windows Vista
Look I understand everything takes an expert but who came up with the bright idea of locking this phone like fort knox? You cannot remove the stupid black front page screen, you cannot remove the stocks application icon from it, you have to listen to a beep sound (or some other lame ones) for text messages alerts, look I know there are experts out ther thinking they did a great job but PEOPLE PLEASE, even the prepay from the 99cent store has customizable display or atleast your rintones for message alerts.... Ive looked through the discussions and could not find my answer. If you know of a discussion already posted please refer me to that.Question: After buying a song from iTunes is there a statute of limitations governing the songs ability to create a ringtone?None of the songs that I bought before my iPhone can be made into ringtones and songs that I bought a few days ago, which initially I could make into a ringtone, but did not, now can no longer be made into a ringtone. Also, is there any program besides iTunes that can be used to create ringtones from any song?Thank you for any and all help.Message was edited by: Abe MacBook Pro (Early 2008) & Intel Core 2 Duo 20" iMac Mac OS X (10.5.5) 2.4GHz & 2GB Ram
Well I recieved an iPhone 3G for Christmas, and I LOVE it, but the thing is, the battery *****. Is it normal to have almost no battery after one day of use? It seems like Im recharging every day I use it, and Im wondering if maybe I didnt charge it long enough the first time or something. Looking for advice please... my fairly new Iphone screen will not come on at all.I did not drop it, abuse it or hit it. It was working, a coworker came to talk to me, I stopped my music and when I tried to start it again, it would not come on. I pulled out the phone and noticed when I hit the button on the headphones it would not light up screen. I tried the button on the phone but it also does not work.A friend called me maybe 20 minutes later and Whew it came on but when we hung up, it would not longer come on after! I plugged it on the USB port a good 20 times, called myself from an internet phone and it just wont come back on, argh!I removed the screen protector and the sleeve its in but it still will not come on. I removed the SIM card, etc etc etc but no matter what I do there is no life on the screen. If I call from the web, it does ring but thats it.Would anyone have any ideas for me? I have no home phone and the sim card will no longer work in my old phone leaving me phone less. I actually had to drive to a payphone to call a friend, bleh ....I hope this is covered by warranty, the limited warranty thankfully seems to cover this since it appears to be a mechanical defect of the phone itself. Thanks in advance,Phil IPhone 3G
hi,im experiencing some odd behavior with a new iPhone 3G purchased in Italy.the phone is functioning pefrectly except for this:during a call, if i click the speaker icon, the cell-reception indicator drops to zero, call disconnects, and a few seconds later receptions is restored.same thing when connecting the iPhones headset, reception drops, call drops.more facts:when headset is plugged in, phone is fully operational, plays music, sends SMS, all good.Ive had the iPhone for just a few days, havent hacked/cracked it or anything bad or unusual. Im running the latest firmware and everything else seems fine with the phone. What could this be?thanks, ohad iPhone 3G

To date, I have had an iphone for 3 days now. I have learned how to 1.turn it on and off. 2.make and answer phone calls. 3.make my own ringtones. 4.make and transfer music. 5.convert and transfer moives. 6.install and use apps. 7.Turn on and off wifi for home use and away.( I live outside the true edge and 3g network so I use my wifi at home). 8.set and use passkey code. The phone is now doing what we bought it for. Calls, and entertainment. This is by no means a business machine, it is very expensive fun machine. And when you learn what it can do, and what it can not do, you will have a blast with it. The best feature for me is having wifi, and 3G connections. Now if can only pry it out of my wifes hands so I can play with it. LOL. My last comment is, I have had no problems or complications yet. The leaning curve is high, but knock on wood, no app problems. I have looked on this forum and found hundreds of thousands of posts, but then when you think there are millions of phones out there, its not so bad.
