Audio IssueFeature in Video Playback iPhone 5

I have just picked up on a 'thing' with the video playback on the iPhone 5. It seems that dynamic range compression and/or EQ is applied to the soundtrack of videos. I first noticed it when I was trying to watch a few concert films and noticed that not only was the sound horrendous but during the high volume scenes, it was distorting. I have tested the same movies on an iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPad which don't seem to have this problem/feature. Has anyone else noticed it? And even better yet, figured out a way to get rid of it?   Additional thoughts: I have also noticed that when you play music through the loudspeaker, some form of dynamic range compression is also applied to the sound. Personally I think it sounds terrible but I can understand why Apple would have done this. However, it doesn't affect the headphone output signal, thank goodness, SO, I speculate that it could be a bug that when a video is played, the OS isn't recognising that the headphones are no longer a loudspeaker and not bypassing the audio signal, therefore applying the compression to the sound.  Playing the video audio through Bluetooth headphones removes the compression and distortion of the sound track in videos, and that would have been the solution, but now videos no longer play in sync with audio through Bluetooth on the iPhone 5. (Grr.) Last thing, the new EQ 'Late Night' that adds compression and EQs the sound in the Music app and sounds possibly like the effect that is being applied to video audio output.

iPhone 5 not ringing or alerting of texts calls going to voice mail

My iPhone 5 recently started having problems with the ringer.  The ringer will be turned all the way up, the mute button is NOT being used and the phone will not ring for calls or alert for texts.  It is not always happening, but more so than not.  I have tried rebooting the phone, the OIS is up to date and I do not have the "Do Not Disturb" set.  I can be in the same spot with LTE and full signal have a call/text that is missed then receive a call/text and it rings.  Does not seem to matter if the call is coming from a land line, same Verizon carrier cell or different carrier cell there is no noticable reason.  Any ideas???

iPhone 5 audio fail

Does anyone have audio fail problem on their iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1.4)? This happeded twice on my iPhone. First time was when I was using my phone as usual and it just suddently truned into mute by itself. The other one was when the alarm was ringing but no sound just vibration. I'm sure that I did not turn into silent mode. Except the sound, it still functions well. System just poped up a message asking me to reboot my device. It recovered after restart, but I still want to know how to deal with this problem.

Iphone 5 bluetooth issue

I recently upgraded from 4s to 5. I'm experiencing issues with the bluetooth transmission/receive range. When I'm running with the iphone on my arm my wireless headset quite often drops the connection. Same problem when I'm using bluetooth with My car. I can't have the phone in My pocket while driving, I must put it between My seats, otherwhise the connection drops.  Had no problem like this with My 4 or 4s, so I convinced it's something with iPhone 5. Anyone else? Is it a hardware or software issue?

Phone volume low. iPhone 4S

My phone volume is very low only for calls. I use the Voxer walkie talkie app and the ear piece volume is loud, but as soon as I make a call or listen to a voice mail, the volume is near mute as max volume. Any solutions?!

Hi, I've got an iPhone 4 that works all perfectly. For some days I can't ear when make a call and also my voice can't be eared from other people: speaker and microphone are mute and iOS auto-activate speakerphone on out/ingoing calls. I tried to reovery the phone and install latest iOS without solution. Can someone help me? Regards, thanks

We hav a iphone 4 and it just switched itself off while it was on. It is fully charged. The apple logo keeps flashing on and off. The phone will sa to connect it to itunes but we do it is not recognised. have tried holding down the home key and the off key together. have tried switching the mute key. Is there anything we can try? We havent tried to reboot the phone, we dont want to loose any photos

right headset doesn't work after upgrading iOS iPhone 4

I use iPhone 4 32GB. I upgrade the iOS from 5.1.1 to 6.1.3. On the previous iOS, i don't have any problem. But after i upgrade my phone, my right headset doesn't work. I've clean the jack, plug, etc; I've tried to change the sound settings, music setting, etc, but it doesn't change anything. My headset still mute, exactly the right side. The left one is still okay. I've tried to plug another jack and nothing change. Anybody help :'(

It's happening to me again iPhone 4S

This problem has happened to me with two DIFFERENT iphone 4S's in the last two weeks.  I went as far as backup/restore with the first one before I went in the the apple store and they replaced the phone.  Now it's happening AGAIN with my new phone.  After the replacement, I restored my settings onto the second phone and the wifi worked for about a week and a half before the mute button started going crazy, then the phone wifi stopped working as an option.  Tried reset, hard reset, reset network settings to no avail.  Any ideas?

iPhone 4 has very short WiFi range

I have an 8Gb iPhone 4 that I bought new in December.  Two days ago, it stopped connecting to my home WiFi network unless it is really close to my router, and it won't connect to my university's WiFi network either.  When I go to Settings -> WiFi, it shows that no networks are in range.  It connects to my home router when I take it within four feet of the router, but when I walk to a different room it disconnects and goes back to 3G; I haven't found a router at school to try this with yet.  My phone has auto-connected to both my home and school networks for months now.  I know the problem is with the phone, because my Macbook Pro connects to both networks without any trouble. I've tried turning my phone's WiFi off and on, turning my phone off and on, and turning the WiFi off, then turning the phone off, then turning both back on to no avail.  Any help is appreciated.

Bluetooth has no range iPhone 5

Hi,  I use my iPhone 5 for running and have bluetooth headphones and a bluetooth heartrate monitor connected. If I have the phone on my arm then all is fine but I would prefer to put it in the pocket on the back of my shorts/trousers but as soon as I do both devices go in out out of contact with the iphone all the time.What can I do to resolve this issue? Many thanks Kris

Wifi Antenna on Iphone very poor.

My iphone wifi antenna is very poor, and i think it may be damaged . When i first got my device, i had the usual range of wifi, but one day i realised i could not get wifi from the normal range and i had to be close to the box to get it. Does anybody know what is wrong ? This is very frustrating as i cannot pick up most wifis and my device cannot pick them up.

Hardware problem on iphone 4s

I have brought Iphone 4s at California before 6 months ... I am facing power key is not functioning from last week and I am in Nepal right now. What shall I do?? I have handeled my iphone carefully and I haven't dropped it yet still facing problem means is there any question on durability of it? I dought and I am sure I should have gone for similar range smart phone I wouldn't have faced problem yet. IPhone 4S volume control not working

My iPhone 4S appears to be stuck in "dock connector" mode.  The volume control buttons on the side of the phone are not working so my phone will not ring & I receive no alerts.  "Bluetooth" & "dock connector" are the only outputs available when playing music.  "Speaker" is not an option. Thank you for any assistance you can give me.  BTW...the "mute" is NOT enabled.**this has been an ongoing issue for me but happened again after the latest update (3.23.13).  Ordinarily I can clean the pin connector on the phone & it fixes the issue.  It is not working this time.

iPhone 5 Wifi Issues

Hello, I recently upgraded from a iPhone 4 that worked flawlessly. Im currently experieincing dropped wifi connections or extremely low download speeds when on wifi at my house. I performed a speed test on my wifes iPhone 4s and omy iPhone 5 after verifying what was on the network. I have consistently been getting 0.20 Mbps down, and she was getting 20Mbps down. The other issue that i ran into is when i charge my phone, sometimes it does not detect that i have plugged it in. THen i have to unplugg it and reconnect it. It is not a major issue, but this could cause issues down the road if the connector is faulty. In order to troubleshoot this, i have wiped the phone and set it up as a new iphone to clear the possiblity of this being the issue. I have gone into the router and releases the DHCP lease on the iphones and then rejoined the network. I have also tried with a new router that has a longer range, but same thing.   During the tests, i had 3 bars on wifi as well.  Have any of you experienced these issues? Should i go to the apple store to see if they can offer a replacement/help?

I can't connect my iPhone 5 to my WIFI.

I bought my iPhone 5 32Gb from the Apple Store in Hong Kong and had it shipped to the Philippines where I currently reside. I've read some issues regarding the iPhone 5 not being able to connect to the internet and having a very weak wifi range. I've dealt with the weak wifi range already but my problem now is:  I accidentally pressed "Forget Network" (home wifi) at home and now I can't seem to connect again. My MacBook Pro, iPad and Samsung S3 have absolutely no problem with connecting to the internet and it's just my iPhone 5 with the issues.  I've tried Resetting everything but still cannot connect to my Wifi. It just keeps on saying "Incorrect Password" though I'm 100% sure that it is since all my other devices are working perfectly.  Please help me.  Thank you in advance guys!

iphone 5 wireless range

I have an Iphone5 and when I try to connect to a wireless network it gets much worse signal strength than I ever had with any other phone.  My other HTC windows phone gets 10 times better reception than this one.   It keeps connecting and disconnecting from the wireless network and if there is a wall or something on the way forget it, the signal drops and it never finds the network again.  I wonder if this problem is possibly related to the patch fix that was issued for Verizon customers or it is just a poor antena placement in the phone itself. Anyone having this problem?

iPhone 4S Speaker Problem after IOS 6.1 update iPhone 5

i have updated my iphone 4S to iOS 6.1.1 update but noticed no sound is coming out from the external speaker after the update (ringer / music / sounds). Tried toggling mute buttons, clean dock connector, plug/unplug headset but no luck. Yesterday, I have updated to latest update IOS 6.1.2 but still no luck. Did hard reset / restore.... restore and another series of hard resets but still no luck.  It seems like its a software problem since I never had this issue prior to updating my iphone. Appreciate advice/suggestion.  Thanks

Apple, please allow us to choose a weather app to be integrated to your weather settings instead of us having to make do with yahoo weather. I have been getting a reading of -4 dev c when the current temp range is 9 to 22 deg c for the past few days here in Darjeeling India. Other apps are accurate. I hate to substitute a default app that apple has given. This is really a bad apple!

iPhone 5-Screen Dimming

I had the iPhone 5 TheI got early yesterday is consistently allowing my face to mute calls, hang up on calls, hold calls, etc. before the screen goes black. Of course I don't realize this because my cheek does it and I'm not looking at the phone, so it leads to repetitive dialing. Before in iphone 4. After dialing a call, once brings the phone to ear, the screen goes black BEFORE contact with one's face, and the call proceeds. I never had a problem with this in two years - not even a single time.  Anyone else having this problem? Any fixes?

Apps won t download on iOS 6.1 iPhone 3G

Hi, I have recently updated to iOS 6.1. I am not sure if this is related, but for some reason I can't download large apps (I'm on wifi and the connection is super fast).At first I was trying to update 2 games I have on my iPhone 5, and it didn't download. I thought this was a result of me getting in and out of range. Anyway, I have deleted those 2 apps, hard reseted the device, and tried to download a fresh copy. It still doesn't work. I have even had my network settings reseted to no avail.Smaller apps usually updates fine, even though the app store seems a but slugish in general. Any ideas?

No sound after updating to iOS 6.1 on iPhone 5

I recently updated my mothers iPhone 5 to iOS 6.1 everything prior to the update worked well. Today was her first day using it after the update and she told me that she no longer has sound. She claimed everything from the click noises to her phone ringing were not working at all. I assumed she just had it on mute but after going through everything from volume level to resetting the phone I had no luck. Also headphones work perfectly and when the headphones are unplugged the iPhone recognizes this so it does not sound like it is a headphone jack issue. Also her mute button works perfectly as well. I am beginning to think it might be a software issue though iOS 6.1 works great on my iPhone 5. Any thoughts or solutions? Thanks!

how I turn my mute off on my itouch when I use facetime iPhone 4

I used Facetime with my daughter,  I could hear her but she couldn't hear me.  The microphone on the screen had a slash through it like it was muted.  I tried to click that to unmute it.  I have no clue how to get it to unmute.  I went in the settings to see if I could fix it.  I have no idea how to unmute it.   Thanks

Restore then restore from backup now iPhone won't turn on properly

My iPhone 4 decided today that the ringer mute button/vibrate button didn't want to put the phone in vibreate mode although it did mute the ringer.  I just attempted to restore and then restore from backup which is the backup from my last sync on 1/14.  When it runs through everything the iPhone turns on briefly after the various restarts but then the Apple logo disappears and it has turned off. iTunes doesn't recognize/show the iPhone either.  I have tried several times to restore but keep having the same problem now.  Any ideas?  After one such run it had the basic icons and my Exchange email account but nothing else.  I am completely perplexed by this.  It wouldn't let me sync after this either so I just restored it once more and then restore from backup but nothing.

iPhone 4S touch screen not functioning shortly after screen replacement

Client submitted a smashed iPhone 4S for screen/back repair, nothing unusual, we do about a dozen a week here. Front and back are replaced, along with a broken vibrator,  on startup all is well, all functions are good; phone is bagged and prepped for client pickup. Client returns 5 minutes after picking it up, touch screen doesn't work.* Tried home/power reset combo, no success. * Tried home/up/power reset combo, no success. * I thought perhaps it was the connector having popped off or not seated 100% right, but that wasn't the case.  Tried two additional screens and no success.  Tried just the main logic board + battery + screen + docking connector ( so you can turn it on without a power button ;-) ), no success.. * Tried iOS update (was on 5.1.1) to 6.0.1, no success.* Tried DFU + restore, no success. The phone appears to be 'fine' otherwise, data is intact, power button is fine, mute/volume switch is fine, home button is fine.Not sure what to go with next other than submitting it to an Australian Apple Service Centre to have the logic board replaced or....? Any suggestions?

Static heard through headphones iPhone 5

On the iPhone 5, with headphones, you can hear a slight static click just before a sound it initiated-keyboard opens, music starts playing, etc. If you are on contacts and click the keypad tab(switch between keypad and contact tabs is very evident) it also happens. You can also hear it quite well from the going from the home screen to spotlight search and back-of course mute has to be off and keyboard clicks have to be enabled.    Tried 3 different iPhone 5s, all there. 6 different headphones, all there.  4S has it but much less pronounced. Seems to be the audio amplifier turning on/off. I would have thought they could have eliminated the static popping noise a bit better.

iphone 5 weak wifi shorter ranger than ipad and macbook pro

Hello, I've had my iphone 5 for almost 6 weeks now but I'm still experiencing, in my opinion, weak wifi signal strength. Where my macbook pro or my parents ipad 1 had 3(sometimes2) bars. The iphone barely gets 1. However if I move a bit closer it gets a good connection quickly again. I hoped this would be fixed by updates (like 6.0.1 and 6.0.2) but it hasn't so far. Do others experience this?It's been to applecare but they don't see anything wrong with it. I didn't even get explanaition what they did.  So to be shorts. Wifi works good and everything but the range seems a bit to small.

There are no "new" 4S 32GB devices, that model was discontinued when the iPhone 5 was released.Posting a serial number or your phone number in a public forum is rather unintelligent. Do you have the device on mute?  Look at the switch above the volume rocker, if you see a red dot, the device is on mute.

volume button disappeared iPhone 4S

I have the same problem with my iPhone. I will have the volume on, not on mute, but when I try to listen to music and go to apps, there is no sound, or even a sound bar. When I have the earphones plugged in, the sound bar shows up, and I can play with it when I am in a call. I DID accidentally splash some water into the left speaker, however I soaked it in rice, and it was fine for awhile, then the sound bar disappeared. The speakers seem fine. What I am asking is what can I do? Is this a hardware problem that needs replacement? I also tried cleaning the earphone jack with alcohol and a q-tip and the sound DID work, only to disappear after while, or a day. Any help would be great!

iPhone 5 loses data connection and won't get it back unless Resetting

Hi everyone, I bought my iPhone 5 about a month ago and I've noticed some issues regarding my data connectivity.  It has happened three times within the last month: out of nowhere, the phone loses data connection. The phone itself will work but I cannot use any internet-based functionality. This has even happened when I used my home WiFi connection, and while it appeared to have full signal and my WiFi was working fine in other devices, iPhone stopped receiving any data.  My original thoughts are that -occasionally- if 3G signal or WiFI is lost, the phone for some reason won't re-connect automatically. However, I haven't noticed it when I get off the tube, where there's not signal, so I'm not sure what causes the problem.. I'm not even sure whether it's a software or a hardware issue. All these times, I had to reset the network settings in order to get it working again, which is ok as a temporary solution, but in no case acceptable for such an expensive device. On top of that, there have been 2 times so far where people could not hear me on the other end of the line, but only when I put my phone close to my face (and obviously this is not because my face touches the mute button..!). When I put it away or put it on speaker, they can hear me fine. So I guess there is an issue with my microphone as well. I'm with 3 UK, but I bought the phone from an Apple Store. I'm having an appointment with an Apple Genious this week, so hopefully they will replace the phone with one that works ok. Did any of you have any relevant experience in the UK? Thoughts? Cheers,T.

Before I start PLEASE don't jump in with all the "turn the mute button off" suggestions.All settings are in the correct positions.Yes I've reset and yes I've reset and restored/updated it through iTunes. AT&T iPhone 4s will only vibrate when receiving a call. No ringtone. When going through settings the test ringer works fine. Please help!

Not Disturb not Working Correctly on iPhone 5

There is a glitch in the DND software: I have set up Do Not Disturb. It's set to ON and in the notifications, I set the time from 10PM to 7AM.  I also selected to allow notifications from my Favorites.  Well with that feature ON, ALL text messages are silenced, even for the people in the Favorites group and even during the day (times not in the 10PM to 7PM range).  This defeats the purpose for me. I want to be able to receive text alerts as well as phone calls from people in my Favorites even when phone is on DND.

I can hear my music.  I can hear talking on videos I have taken.  I have tried everything I know to do(reset,restore,reset network settings,reset content and other settings and mute button is not ON)Please help!

Speakerheadphones in 4s isn't working

Okay -- so yesterday I was listening to music through headphones and it would go in and out. Someone said to blow on them and that worked for a little while. Now, I want to listen to them on my speakers. (My mute button isn't on btw) anyways, I can't hear it. I can't even hear it on my keyboard. When I hold the home button for Siri, however, I hear her perfectly. What's going on?
