Ringer not working iPhone 4S

When a call or text is coming throug there is no sound. The settings seem fine. When I switch the side button to red nothing happens. What used to happen would be the bell sign would come up with a line through it indicating the ringer was switched off but now nothing happens whichever way I switch it. Vibrate is switched on in settings but it isn't vibrating either. Interestingly the alarm is working so the sounds are not completely gone.  I have powered it off an back on etc., but it hasn't made any difference. Any advice. Thanks Paula

Why it it that when I query a word or two in spotlight, I can see the text message that I am looking for but when I tap it, I am not taken to that message. This renders the search useless.

This is my issue. I have been using the messages app and spotlight to search keywords and/or phrases in old text messages.  Scenario: Using the search bar in the messages app, I lookup Mac. It returns 2 results. I click the message I want to view and it opens the most recent message in thread. So I tried using Spotlight. Granted, it returns more results (about 6,7), but when I click the message to finish reading it, again, it opens the most recent message in the thread. Is there an app that actually searches messages and lets you view the message?

iPhone images won t restore after phone reset

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me as my wife's iPhone completely froze up after synching with the latest version of iTunes. In the end, the only thing she could do was re-set the iPhone, thereby of course losing everything. Reconnecting to her laptop restored music and most apps, it seems she has to re-download the other apps again direct to the phone. Now the problem is images. There is an ipod cache directory on the laptop Pictures directory, and in this are folders labelled F00, F01 etc.. and a "Photo Database" file. In each of the Fnn directories is a series of files, called Txxx.ithmb, each of which is about 1,500KB. Doing a backup from the laptop indicates there are about 2900 files overall.Altogether there is about 3GB in this folder, so it looks to be a lot of space.  Pointing iTunes to the directory containing all this and synching, still results in zero images being found. She went to the local Apple store for help, to be told these are not the images, but then elsewhere I have read that these are the full files, and this proprietary format contains three different resolution images. If the images taken on the iPhone are not here, where are they? Finally, how on earth do we convince iTunes to recognize these files and imporrt them again? Sorry to be thick but losing everything thanks to the latest iTunes was rather catastrophic! Any help/ideas/suggestions greatfully received... The photo files were a mix of photos taken on the iPhone and images previously uploaded from the laptop. Cheers Chipontheroad

iPhone 4 battery drain when powered off

Lately I've been turning off my phone and when I turn it back on battery is drained. Yesterday I turned it off at 80% and when I turned it back on 3 hours later it was at 62%. Then today I turned it off at 50% and when I turned it back on it was at 32%! Does anyone know why my iPhone is losing battery even when it's completely powered off? I feel like it shouldn't be losing any battery at all

Wifi greyed out on Iphone 4s

All of a sudden I lost my wifi signal....Checked out the settings and the WiFi is off and unable to turn it back on....i have powered down the phone...i have done a full restore and the wifi switched remains greyed out....any suggestions?

Battery life-iphone 4

Well I tried turning off the Bluetooth, turning off WIFI, turning off location services, and all Push activity.  After all of this my battery lasts about 8 hours.  I guess I could keep the phone powered off but I think that kind of defeats the purpose of owning the phone. Any studies on the lifespan of an iPhone 4 battery?  My applecare warranty runs out in a few months.

My mom passed me her phone as she couldn't get it to restart.  I got it to charge and restart in recovery mode.  However, I've tried all steps on this and many other forums and it is stuck in "trying to restore".  On the phone, it will blink a white screen, show the apple logo and a progress bar then quickly disappear then on the computer give me error code 9.  I have tried 3 different cords, on both my MacBook Air and my iMac.  Same results on both computers.  She purchased a new phone as she couldn't do without, but would love to fix this phone and give to one of my children.  This phone has not been jailbroken.  Any help would be sooooo appreciated!  Not sure what will happen if I try to take this to Apple.

    Not being very careful today, I dropped my phone and it landed flat on its glass front screen. Dusch! Cracked screen! My questions now are a) should I just go into Apple and see if they can replace it? b) have a tech geek friend replace the cracked screen ( you can buy the parts and repair kit online), or c) should I just replace the whole phone (can't remember if the warranty is up. Iphone 5 no longer connecting to bluetooth in car

My Iphone 5 has been connected succesfully via bluetooth to my car for the past 5 months (Ford Fiesta).  Yesterday I went to use it and it wont connect, I powered off the phone, turned bluetooth on/off still not working. I debonded all phones from the car and went to start afresh but that wont work either. When it is searching for devices it just seems to be stuck?  I tried another Iphone 5 in my car and that connected no problems at all. Anyone have any ideas, it clearly must be the phone but wonder what on earth I have done.

Hi, we purchased a new iPhone 5 16 GB in balck through our business account with Vodafone.We’ve had this phone just under 2 month and it has had a battery issue that seemed to only get worse by time. We tried the usual fixes by applying the latest iOS and doing a complete restore to factory settings with no results.The battery would not hold charge for long and the user had to keep constantly charging it through the day.  We’ve had similar issues in the past with iPhone 4 and the 4S to which the fix was always to take the iPhone back to the Apple store and get it replaced under warranty.When I went to the Apple store after inspecting the phone they told me that they can not service nor replace the phone as it had “Random Code Stickers” on the inside of the phone which are not consistent with any repair work done in any Apple repair store and that a “water sensor “ attached to the inside of the screen was missing as well as “Burn marks” to the back on the screen.Has anyone had a similar problem with their phone?

download speeds over wifi extremely slow. iPhone 4S

I am running iOS 6.1.3.  Recently, and I am not sure if it is related to a recent update or not, but my download speeds have dramatically decreased.  I download audio books on a regular basis and they are typically about 120mb in size.  These files would typically download in a minute or so.  The downloads are now taking 2 -4 hours.  I installed speedtest.net to test my speed.  My download speeds are ranging between .05 Mbps and .19 Mbps.  My upload speeds is consistently over 5 Mbps.  I thought that it might be due to my router but I connected my phone to another router with the same results.  Any help would be appreciated.   Thanks, Spencer

iPhone 4s not charging

My iPhone 4s is not charging.  Last few days it was eating up the battery life quicker than usual.  Tried doing all the power up deals, turning off then on, even a restore.  It is now completely powered off and not turning on even when plugged in.  I'm out of ideas.  A little help please!Thanks

We have been having trouble with our iPhone 4. It will just die. I researched the web and was able to find the information to restart it by pushing both buttons. This resets it, but does not last. I did a complete reset on the phone then updated it, but it continues to turn off and has to be restarted. It is out of warranty, any help would be great.

I just started to get a SIM Failure Pop up on my iphone 5on Thursday while traveling and using Maps fornavigation. Virgin Mobile 4S 3G connectivity

I purchased a 4S for my daughter. She has had it for a month and finally told me the 3G data did not work.  The phone will show 3G and then change to a "o" in place of the icon. We have 5 signal bars showing and can get a 3G icon after entering ##update#. Using Safari to access the web results in an error message "could not activate cellular data network".  We can get data very slowly over the air with the small "o" showing.  The retailer shrugs their shoulders as we are past thirty days.  Virgin tech support has been contacted over 10 times and gives the same litany of ##update", turn off and back on, how many bars to you have, we will escalate and call you back, etc.  Does anyone know how I can resolve this?  Every Apple device I have ever purchased has been outstanding in its performance.  She is 14 and is very disappointed.  She claims she now has an iPod that can make a phone call.

Vertical Grey lines iPhone 5

I dropped my iPhone from waist height flat onto the back (I have a zoogue case on it), and now grey vertical lines appear down the left side of the screen. I have powered off holding the home/power button, but nothing changed. I can't swipe to unlock it, so I can't type in my password in order to back it up over the cloud/my computer before resetting it. Has this happened to anyone? Suggestions? Home fixes? Or am I helpless?

iMessage and FaceTime have disappeared after iOS6.1.2 download iPhone 5

I just got a new iPhone and after downloading iOS 6 I discovered that the iMessage and FaceTime apps were missing. I tried using 'search' but it came up with no results for either feature. I then moved on to check if they were still listed in settings - they were, they were also both turned on. I have reset the phone and the home screen and come up with no luck - go can I get them back?

Iphone 4S will not allow WiFi to be turned ON

iPhone 4s only charging to 98 .

When I charger my iPhone 4s with the Apple wall charger it only charges to 98%, even though the battery icon shows 100% and completely charged. I unplug the power cable and the battery percentage shows 98% which at that point I connect it back with the wall charger and it shows 100% again. I repeat these steps and the same results occur.   My iPhone 4s has the most current version of the iOS (6.1.2).  Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this? 

IPhone 4S stopped reading S card after 6 months

I have iPhone 4S it has a H2o SIM card that's worked for about 6 months no problem then one day it said SIM card failure I powered phone on/off once and started working again. Two weeks later it took 3-4 times of me cycling power on/off and removing SIM card and reinstalling it in order to get it to work. Then a week later it did same thing but took even longer. Now it won't read at all and I thought it was SIM card so I went and bought a new SIM card but no change, I looked online for help and even tried to put tape on tray/card like someone said but no change(if I even putting the tape in right place. I tried several different ways) Nothing seems to work. My phone was manufactured between 19-25 of March 2012 so hopefully I can get warranty but not original owner so not sure. Does anyone have any idea what can cause this? Why hasn't Apple fixed this problem since its been happening for a long time

There is an article today indicated that the Associated Press has discovered that the iPhone 5 from Verizon Wireless is unlocked and will work with an AT&T sim on the AT&T Network.  The article did not state if the phone will also work on other networks.  A Verizon spokesperson has verified that indeed their version of the iPhone 5 is unlocked.

Headphones jack problem iPhone 4

Hello I got a really strange and annoying problem regarding my iphone 4 audio jack. the problem is whenever I play a sound the right channel of the headphones play's music really scrappy and low quality, especially the bass. but on the left channel everything works as it suppose. I am starting to suspect that it is a hardware because even after a clean restore it is the same and if the volume level is under half'ish then the right channel will barely work untill the volume is raised to 3/4 of the max volume making it seem more hardware related. thing I tried: clean IOS restore checking the jack with other headphones/stereo systems all of which gave the same results (right channel scrappy and left is clear) I also tested the headphones themselves. thanks Tal

iOS 6.1.2 Battery Drain Issue Test iPhone 4

My iPhone battery was good up to iOS 6.0.1, with 5 hours of usage (2G) and even up to 5 days on standby! After upgrade to 6.1, it loses 2~3% battery every hour on standby (Wi-Fi and 3G off) and only lasts for 1 to 2 hours of usage before dead. It is not as bad as some who report losing 10% of battery every hour on standby, but to me, the battery life has reduced to a quarter. I have gone through many suggestions and solutions from reset and restore to using old backups and so on, but none of them worked.  With my recent test, I am almost sure that the bug is in iOS. I charged the phone to 100%, unplugged it and set the Airplane Mode to ON and guess what? It is 5 hours now and the battery is still on 100% of charge! I am using 2G network and the signal in my area is very good (full antenna). I think the problem is in communicating with the BTS towers and nothing related to apps or settings. It is obvious that the Airplane Mode saves battery, but in recent iOS updates, it's 2G network that ***** battery more than usual.  Are any of you with battery drain issue have tested this or may test it and report the results?

I have red x through an empty battery icon near top right of my screen. iPhone 4

When ever I search for a solution all the results that come up are for blackberry and I'm not sure if it means teh same thing on iOS. The icon looks like an upright battery that has been drained and there is a small red x in the lower left of the icon. I've reset my phone, respringed the springboard, and plugged and unplugged it multiple times. The phone says its charging and nothing seems wrong so far, but the icon wont go away.

I signed in icloud and put my phone in stollen mode using Find My Phone utility which is still pending. I got the sim blocked and reported to police. They will deal it in their own way. VIBER Crashing on iPhone 5

I have used VIBER on my previous i4 and than on my i4s with success.I have had my i5 now for 2-3 months and succesfully loaded and used VIBER again.Today I have been trying to use VIBER and the App is crashing. iphone speaker not working iPhone 4S

I've had my iPhone since January 2012 - it's almost one month outside the warranty. As you know, I love my phone and carry it with me everywhere. There are 5 Apple devices in my household: 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, and an iPod. This past Wednesday I realized that I was missing phone calls and for a moment thought I had left it on silent mode. As it turns out, the bottom speaker on the phone is no longer working. I get sound from the headphone jack when headphones are plugged in, but nothing when they're not - this includes alerts, ring tones, music, video, etc. I tried to reset the phone on Thursday night with no results. This afternoon I visited the Genius Bar at the Partridge Creek Apple Store. They took a look at the phone and told me they thought water damage was the reason for the speaker failure and told me there was nothing they could do but sell me a replacement phone. The phone has never been wet. It also sits constantly inside a Mophie battery case that completely encloses the bottom of the phone. I highly doubt the phone could get wet enough to cause something like this while it was in the case unless it was totally submerged in something. The phone is barely one month out of warranty. I don't feel like this experience has been consistent with the kind of experience Apple desires their customers to have and I'm wondering if there's anything that can be done to make this right.

How to turn on powered off iPhone without hardware buttons

I'm trying to turn on my iPhone.  It's powered off, and the lock button is broken.  I think it turns itself back on when charged from 0%, but it was at 100% before this occurred, so it would take forever to drain the battery. Is there a way to kick the iPhone into being powered on?

The problem appeared to update iOS 6.0.1 to iOS 6.0.2 on my iPhone 5, not solved by upgrading to iOS 6.1With iOS 6.0.1 battery lasted about 36 hours. Now, the battery still lasts 8hrs maximum.Yesterday, restore iOS 6.1 on my iPhone 5 with iTunes, without positive results.I hope it is resolved soon.

I recently purchased an iPhone 4s when it was running iOS 5.1.1. I eagerly updated to iOS 6 as soon as it was available. I had been seeing slightly less-than-optimal battery life of 5.1.1, but iOS 6 delivered simply terrible battery life. I have scoured through many forums and found nothing that worked. I have even tried restoring as a new phone, but with no results. Before I go ahead and make a Genius Bar appointment, is there anything I can do to fix this? I have reset all settings, turned off bluetooth, turned off push mail and notifications and location for unnecessary things, including system services, disabled Siri, turned down brighness, gone through charge cycles, done hard reboots, and removed unnecessary syncing services. Yet my battery still fails to deliver. Can anyone recommend anything else to try?  As a reference, I get about 5-6 hours of light usage (checking email, checking news briefly, maybe watching a few YouTube videos) with 10-12 hours of standby on a good day. There have been days where I got up to 8 hours on very restricted usage. On bad days, when I throw in 15-20 minutes of games and more heavy video, I get 4 hours of usage maximum. I got far more than this on my iPod Touch 4G running iOS 5.1.1, so I was rather startled by this performance. If this is normal, and the iPhone battery in general isn't too good, please let me know. However, I have a strong feeling that this is unusual. If no solution presents itself, I will be going to see the Genius Bar.

iMessage and Facetime Not Working-Cannot Log Into Apple ID. iPhone 3G

Hello,  Some background: iMessage and Facetime are not working. Both applications are saying that I am not typing in the correct password for my Apple ID. Needless to say, the applications are wrong and I am using the correct password.  Some background:  1) This is an iPhone 5.  2) It is running iOS 6.0.2.  3) I am on Verizon.  4) I am located in the continental US.  5) I have a full e-mail address for my Apple ID username. 6) iMessage and Facetime are both working on my iPad, using the same login information. 7) All other applications that use Apple ID, such as the App Store, are not having this type of log in issue. 8) This issue occurs regardless of whether I am connected to wi-fi or just the mobile carrier, or both.    Troubleshooting I have tried to fix this issue:  1) I have changed my Apple ID password. This did not work.  2) I have changed my Apple ID username/email. This did not work.  3) I have played around with Date/Time setting changes. This did not work.  4) I have reset all settings. This did not work.  5) I have tried hard restarts of the phone. This did not work.  6) I have performed a restore from backup of the phone. This did not work.  7) I have performed a full factory restore of the phone. This did not work.   Apple Support is at a total loss on how to fix this. I have now had multiple frustrating phone support sessions with them with zero results. If you do some searching, it appears there is no way that anyone knows of to fix this issue once all the troubleshooting I have listed above has failed. People have had to acquire brand new phones in order for these applications to work again.  Obviously this is unacceptable.  There are a lot of smart people on these forums fixing tech issues like this. Anyone have any input?

Unable to connect to wireless Network Iphone 5

I just bought the Iphone 5 two days ago. I am having a lot of issues connecting to every other network but my own network at home At home I am using a N900 Cisco Router. The security settings on it are WPA2, My verizon carrier update is version 13.3 and I have updated to IO6.0.2. I have reset the phone to factory defualts, I have reset the network, I have powered off the phone and done everything I could to get them to work on this network.   Personal. Now I have been to my girlfriends parents and many other places that are public and even after double checking the password. the Iphone 5  From Trouble shooting: I have noticed that the Iphone 5 doesn't seem to like many security options on the routers. Even on my new router I tried several different security options and it seemed to like WPA2 the best. Othrwise I was getting major issues. The iphone would connect sometimes only to be slow and not connect. The wifi signal would keep being scanned and would go out and come back in. The signal strength also qould keep fluctuation even when near the router. My brothers same andriod device was doing the same thing. My brothers Iphone 5 was doing the same thing when using the different networks.  Apple there is a major problem here that needs to be addressed when refering to wifi. Considering most carriers now charge for data it is important that if I have access to all the wifi networks I can connect too. This is a major issue that needs to be resolved and looking at the forums it is not an isolated incident.  Recomendations: People who call in with this issue, need to have phones replaced if not able to patch, Since no patch exists at the moment, it would be prudent to offer people who are having trouble a credit towards their wireless bill by working with cell providers and to have apple issue a version of an RMA number. Until the issue is resolved. I have 17 days to return my phone to verizon and I am going to wait to hear back. My girlfriend is in the market for a new phone and we can't have issues with a wifi connection especially when charges are going to ensue if we go over our data. Plus the unavailability of a network in areas my cell provider is not able to help with is important. We as apple users need immediate attention to this matter and it is not a matter of how the phone scans for networks. It is an issue with connectivity and how it is communicating with certain encryptions with the routers. Fix need asap.  This issue is also not localized to the Iphone 5 as it is happening on the Ipad 4

I have the purchase receipt, original boxing, and the device is registered in my Apple ID, it was stolen two months ago and iCloud is useless since the guy can erase the phone and set it with his own ID, I mean I bought the phone including all of it's features, and GPS is one of them, and Apple as the maker can track their own devices..

Intermittent lockup when powered iPhone 5

My IP5 intermittently locks up (frozen screen) when the charger cord is plugged in and the battery is charged to 100%.  At least, that's the only time I've noticed it.  As soon as I remove the charger cord, it works normally again.  Anyone else have this problem?  I'm wondering if this is a bug that Apple will have to address?

Iphone 5 hacked-about 30 emails sent out to what looks to be phishing website-TELUS customer

My iphone was stolen however its still saved as one of my devices on icloud but its name has changed. Can apple find it

I left my iphone sitting on the dashboard of a taxi and forgot to lift it. As soon as I got out of the taxi, I remembered so I rang the taxi company to get it for me. I also rang the phone and it was turned off, which is strange as two minutes earlier it was on and it had a 80% battery life so I knew something was strange. Suprise suprise the taxi company never found it. I went on to icloud and put the phone (the device was called jacks iphone) in lost mode and tried to track it but it was offline so I could never find it. Now several weeks down the line I went back on to icloud and this mysterious device TonkhawiPhone7_ was in my list of devices. Its an iphone 4 as well. So could this be my iphone and the person who now has it has changed the name of the device? It doesn't appear to allow me to put it in lost mode for some reason. Can apple help me get my iphone back?  Thanks for reading

My new iPhone 5 plugged in and powered off but I am not getting charging icon on screen. suggestions. Phone new and not charged

I have a new iphone5. I have it poweredoff and plugged into the wall, but I am not getting any charging icon. Any ideas?.. Bill Steed

Afraid to update iphone 5 to 6.0.2

I have the iPhone 5 ( 2nd one). The first one I had would not connect it wifi anywhere.  I returned it and this one works fine.  I am very skeptical about updating to 6.0.2 after reading all the battery problems and wifi issues as well.  Wondering what to do.  At this point I think I will wait until I hear otherwise maybe 6.0.3 will come out with better results. What do you think?
