I dont think Genius erased my data iPhone 3G

i had syncing problems with an iPhone 3G and during an appointment on Tuesday (07/21) so i received a new 3G from the genius bar.i was there for 2 hours+ and during the process the genius did a few things to extend my stay longer than necessary like helping 2 other people before he finished my transaction because i had to resync my old phone before the swap and it took quite a while (remember i had syncing problems). i was upset but i got a new phone so i didnt really mind. i was happy overall to have a brand new iPhone 3Gwhen it was over i asked him to erase the data on my old phone. so he asked me for my 4 digit password and then HE went in to the Settings > Reset menu heres where it gets weird... he clicked the 2nd button from the bottom. i could see his fingers and saw the button turn blue when he depressed itthis morning it occurred to me that i never actually saw the device begin to restart and it made me feel uneasy so i checked that screen on my new device just to verify that he clicked the right button... NOPE.the button second from the bottom is: RESET HOME SCREEN LAYOUTthat is nowhere near: RESET ALL SETTINGS (at the top of the screen)i think the genius pretended to erase my data but didnt. it was the end of the night and everyone was leaving so i think it was just to get done with the transaction, not to steal my data. but i am positive he DID NOT erase my data as requested.i dont want to go back to that store and accuse anybody of anything. i buy there all the time. and having a good repoire with apple store staff can have its benefits. Hard Drive Failed on my PowerBook. iphone app question 3G

Hi,My drive failed and a new one is being installed. My question is. After installing OS 10.5 on the new drive my itunes will now have nothing in it. When I hook up my iphone to the PowerBook with the new hd will my apps on my iphone be safe or will they be erased or will they be synced into the new itunes? No internet on 3G iPhone

Every day for the past week, my internet connection on 3G has stopped working. When I reset, it works fine, but sure enough, the next day, same thing, and I have to reset. Internet works fine over WiFi. What is going on with this? I am thinking this must be software related, since resetting resolves it, although temporarily. Has anyone else had this same issue? Why isnt my BRAND NEW iPhone charging 3G

I just got my iPhone on Friday. Its Tuesday. When I plug it in, it charges for a little while and then switches over to discharging. I had it on the charger all night last night and when I woke up this morning, I was greeted by a red battery graphic and a warning. This is whether or not I have it in the wall or on my PowerBook charging.I have an app on it called System that actually displays the percentage charged. I turned it off (off -- not just with the home button) and let it charge for about two hours. It actually got up to 68%. As soon as I unplugged it, however, it told me 58%. Bug in the app? Contacts are separating at Random iPhone 3G

Im on the IPhone 3G with 3.0 software...Heres whats going on: at random and without warning my stored contacts are separating. For instance, ill see a Friends name in my address book but the phone numbers and e-mail addresses are gone. It has also happened in reverse. My fathers Name was listed in the my address book but the e-mail address and phone numbers are gone. Im pretty good with syncing my phone but I dont want my contacts to disappear at random and at will. But losing a contact at random and while away from home would be BAD and would cause me to quickly return this phone to the Apple Store. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks in advance. Home Screen Dial Pad Speed Dial by iPhone

Ok I love the Iphone and I know all of you are thinking that there are easier ways to do this but I have two odd questions:1) Can I make the dial pad my home screen? I would like to press the main circle button and the dial pad pops up and I can touch scroll to the main screen with all the app icons... 2) Is there a Speed Dial app that I can just press 3 talk and it will call the number listed under 3 or dial 26 talk and it will dial the number listed under 26....etc...etc...I know about favorites and picture dial and voice dial but I want the regular speed dial. Because I use the Iphone primarily as a phone, i want the dial pad to pop up when I unlock the the phone and I just hit a number and talk and it will make the call.. I really want these phone features...Anybody have any ideas or know of any apps that would do these things? Maybe I should invent an app if there are none... iPhone Cable Cracked 3G

I noticed today that my iPhone cable has cracked right behind the connector that goes to the USB piece. The cable still works but I was wondering would this be covered under the warranty? Screen disable during call will not resolve after call-stays black iPhone

Any ideas on this one? I have the 32 GB 3g S model. It is mostly working OK now, except when I make or receive a call, the automatic sensing of my face is whacky. Sometimes it does not disable the controls during the call but it ALWAYS disables them AFTER each call, meaning I cant even end the call. VERY weird. I never had this happen with my 1st gen iPhone. Calendar no longer syncing properly after 3.0 update iPhone 3G

Anyone run into this problem? Any solutions?After the 3.0 update, any events that Ive entered into the iPhones calendar are not showing up in iCal. As well as that, all of my iCal events have been duplicated on the iPhone...I use Mobileme, but havent changed anything. Everything worked absolutely fine prior. The only variation has been updating the phones OS to 3.0...Im having general Mobileme issues... replace info on this iPhone (from the iTunes summary control) has no effect... controlling Mobileme from the iPhone preferences have none either... Its about a problem with the dock connector. MMS with 3.0 iPhone

So MMS works, but instead of it coming up under the persons current sms box, it creates a new one with their number as the title instead of the name. So for example, if Im talking to John Smith and he sends me a MMS, it wont appear in the same convo, it will create a new one, titled eg 6104017743 (his phone number)Anyone know whats with that? If someone sends me a MMS that I cant tell who its from it means I have to search my phone for that number to figure out who it is, instead of it coming up in John Smiths convo field. iPhone freezes

I have a first-gen iPhone. More than 50% of the time, the iPhone freezes after I wake it up from sleep mode (I cannot slide the bar to unlock). It does this when I wake up the iPhone manually by pressing the home button, or if it wakes up because it receives an incoming message or phone call. It will even do it when it is in Airplane mode. And it has done this on the original software and has not improved with software updates. Its not a permanent freeze; I can work around it by putting it to sleep with the top button and then waking it up with the home button. But its getting annoying because it means I cant answer 50% of my incoming calls.Any ideas? Custom ringtone settings not saved iPhone 3G

Anyone know if there is anything that can be done to preserve ringtone settings? I installed the 3.0 update, and everything went flawlessly, except (just like other updates) the custom ringtones I have assigned to a few directory entries changed back to default. Not really a big deal for me because I only have a few assigned (my immediate family). But it will be a real pain when I apply the update to my wifes phone. She has a assigned a unique ringtone to nearly EVERYONE in her directory <sigh>.I am extremely happy with the new update, but it seems like such a small data element would not be that hard to backup. iPhone started overheating and other issues 3G

As the title states, my iPhone just started overheating (since yesterday)...I read that many suggest that it could be due to the new OS, however, I upgraded the same day it was released (17th june) and didnt have any problems till yesterday...Now it overheats especially when its plugged to my mac for recharge and the recharge process is taking forever! Need serious help from Windows person to install Sons iPhone with iTunes

I gave my Son my 2G iPhone which served me well for over two years. He has signed up with AT&T and has the phone working with his number. Now, my Son wants me to show him how to use the Phone and iTunes. My problem is my Son has a Dell desktop Windows computer and I know little or nothing about Windows. I need to go over tomorrow at noon and act like I can help. I need step-by-step help please with these questions:1.) How do I tell which system he has (about 1 year old) so I can download the correct version of iTunes for him? Where do I look on a Windows computer to find that information?2.) After downloading the right version of iTunes, how do I locate the file that iTunes downloads to his computer and then get that file to install?Whew, If I could just have instructions on how to accomplish just that much, just those two major questions, I think the iPhone will automatically hook up with iTunes when we plug it in and we will be 90% home free.The only other question I can think of is that the phone I gave him still has all of my address books and everything I had on it. iPhone OS 3.0 Voicemail delays

I upgraded my orginal iPhone (2G) to OS 3.0 yesterday, and it went smoothly. The only potential problem Im having is that voicemails are being delivered more than 2 hours after the missed call -- is anyone else having this problem?Not sure if this is an Apple issue or an AT&T one, but its reproducible on my phone. Flash iPhone

Im curious how anyone else feels about the subject of Flash on the iPhone. I could care less. I dont even have updated Flash on my Macs. I have yet to see a site I visit regularly that requires it and most of the error message boxes prompting me to update are found on sites of less than important content. Did that come out PC enough? An iPhone has been detected but it could not be identified properly.

After upgrading to OS 3.0, I am now at the emergency call screen and when I sync my iPhone with iTunes 8.2 in Windows XP I get the following error:An iPhone has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPhone, then try again.When I tried this on my older PowerBook G4 with iTunes 8.2, it gave me a different error message:iTunes could not connect to the iPhone, Kens iPhone, because it is locked with a passcode. How I get .MOV movies off of iPhone onto my computer

Lightroom sees the iPhone and allows me to import iPhone photos to my computer no problem and very nice indeed. It does also give me a message that the .MOV movie files are not recognized as photographs and will not be imported. That is fine, I do not want movies in my still shots library.How do I get the movie files off of the iPhone and onto the computer. Can Bluetooth do it? What is the process? IPhone 3G battery dies quickly after 3.0 software update

My iPhone battery was never an issue until I upgraded the software to 3.0.My phone now goes from a full charge to 20% in less than 3 hours while not in use.I have Location Services shutoff and every other setting on my phone has remained the same.I also notice my phone gets very hot when I do use it.Whats up with the decrease in battery life? 15" PowerBook Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Downgrade iPhone

This 3.0 upgrade is a mess. The phone has lost all its smothness with everything from scrolling to typing and everything is really intermittent and very very slow.One of the worst thing, and Im not joking, is that Need for Speed has become unplayable.Now Apple Im really tired of your schizophrenic policy (see the alumnum MacBook), very microsoftish like so give me a downgrade tool or solve this slow-motion problems!!!And I invite all the users that have experimented the same problems to raise their voices too to stop this way.I dont want be pushed to buy a 3gS to have a functioning 3.0. Iphone 3g with 3.0 No Video Recording

So I like so many other fanatical iphone users gleefully updated to the 3.0 software. I have tinkered around with it today. Among the things I noted as promised MMS is capable but Att is still slow in reality. Among the other things I noted not present in the new software is no video recording capability in the camera app. Yes yes,I know I must upgrade to the 3gs model but really I think its still premature. Iam sure the reason this feature is not present for the 3g model is because of the (advanced camera on the 3gs)!!! Right? I really dont care for the other added apps (compass...I rather like my 3rd party app), voice commands (no use). IS there any possibility a video record app may be made by 3rd party now? Does the Find my phone feature work with 3G i-phone? If it does can anyone who has set it up, let me know if they had problems? I followed the apple instructions, and Hit the Allow button but it wont turn the feature to ON ..... How I dismiss keyboard in SMS iPhone

Sometimes I want to see more of the messages Ive sent/received, but if Ive typed a reply, then the keyboard remains on the screen, covering about half the message part of the display, until I step back to the list of recipients and then reselect one of them.Is there a way to dismiss the keyboard after typing an SMS?Thanks! Iphone 3.0 upgrade Mail Application Not Working 3G

Greetings, After upgrading to 3.0 software, all applications seem to work, with some slightly longer loading times....except for one!The one application that will not work...MAIL_______________________________________________Upon launching mail, the application will load show my inbox and try to retrieve mail. Usually within 10 seconds it kicks back out to the home screen. Other variations of this problem are not loading the mail program at all as well as loading the mail app accepting some input, then black screen to home screen reload.The only other variation of this was once mail started, I tried to hold my finger on the screen and scroll. Wait until the application was done checking for mail. Up in the top left corner of the screen the working or loading icon is still in action. As soon as I let go of the scrolling, I get kicked out. Last variation on this theme was the upper left loading icon NOT occuring, I release scroll and then kicked out of mail application.I tried turning off each individual mail account (I have three set up, hotmail, gmail, .mac). I also tried turning all mail accounts off. I tried turning on and off push and fetch features on each individual account and running mail. Absolutely NO luck in any variation.Turning the iPhone into AIRPLANE mode allowed me to run mail, read emails. I even thought perhaps I was able to delete messages. Once I turned AIRPLANE mode off, and relaunched mail app, all emails were reloaded and I was kicked out.I have had no problems with mail app in the past in any fashion. Updating to 3.0 has locked me out of my most often used application.I have been searching forums and Google all day with no luck to anyone else stating this problem. The software was only released today, so perhaps not everyone has used each application throughly yet, or have not posted their problems.I have tried turning device on and off, hard reset, soft reset, power down, plugging in, syncing.The one HUGE problem I have is that I backed up before upgrading, BUT, Apple does not allow us to create NEW backups. So, without me knowing, when I hit SYNC to try to update, it overwrote my 2.1 backup. (Which by the way is so frustrating. Why can we not say create new backup, rename them, choose which back up to restore from?)Alas, I am stuck in purgatory with no access or clear idea how to proceed in getting mail running again.Has ANYone else had anything similar to this, or possibly found a work around?Your input is much appreciated,Cheers,E! Issue with App Screens after Updating to 3.0 iPhone

After updating my iPhone to 3.0, two new screens have been added: Screen 1 is now the Spotlight search screen, Screen 2 is the Home screen, and Screen 3 is empty except for the single app icon that was bumped from the Home screen to make room for the new built-in Voice Memos app. Fine.The problem is that by deciding to insert a new almost-blank screen right after the Home screen, Apple has made it necessary for iPhone users to move and rearrange every screen full of app icons in order to return things to the way they were before the update.It would have made much better sense to add the extra blank page at the end, leaving everyones carefully arranged app screens undisturbed. For me personally, the damage is done. I have no choice but to move everything back one screen, one icon at a time. But the iPhone engineers really ought to think of some way to make all this extra work unnecessary. 20" iMac 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.5.7) 12" PowerBook 1.5GHz G4

I was one of the ones whose status page said it would ship on the 19th for delivery on the 24th, and who then got the email from Apple saying that was an error and it would arrive on the 19th. My order status never updated to reflect the correction, though. Can I Use Wifey Upgrade Option to Get New iPhone Subsidized

Im not eligible until 12-29, but my wifes Blackberry 8800 is eligible now. She cant use either iPhone because of her job, so I just want to use her eligibility to get a subsidized iPhone 3G S and activate with my phone number which is now active on my 3G. Can I just use her account to order the phone through Apple, then . . . what? Any pitfalls here or is this very doable and AT&T doesnt really care so long as they get her under a new contract and my contract continues?Would I be better off waiting and doing this in person at my local AT&T store? Double tap zoom in OS 3.0 iPhone

Will double tap zoom still work under OS 3.0? If not, that will be poorly thought out, double tap zoom is perfect for one handed use of the iPhone. Wouldnt hold and tap over text be better for copy and paste selection? Ie hold for zoom then tap to select. I dont want to lose my double tap zoom. PowerBook g4 1.25ghz 2GB Mac OS X (10.5.7)

Just think - O2 and other phone companies are NOT ALLOWING US to buy a new iPhone 3GS!!!Surely Apple cant be hapy about that.With Apple products, traditionally we all eagerly await new models and cant wait to shell out our hard-earned cash to get the latest Apple thing!And now, for the first time, we have a 3rd party preventing us from doing so. iphone will not connect to iTunes 3G

I have an iphone G3. It has suddenly started to only allow emergency calls and shows the connect to iTunes images on screen (USB + arrow + ItUnes). It is fully charged. When I try to connect the phone to iTunes, I simply get an unknown error message: An unknown error occurred (-9807) Please try again later. I have restored the iphone and still get the same messsage. From searching around the forums, I thought error -9807 was specific to Windows/iTunes problems. Is it dead? Luckily the phone is still in warranty. PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.x)
