Im not eligible until 12-29, but my wifes Blackberry 8800 is eligible now. She cant use either iPhone because of her job, so I just want to use her eligibility to get a subsidized iPhone 3G S and activate with my phone number which is now active on my 3G. Can I just use her account to order the phone through Apple, then . . . what? Any pitfalls here or is this very doable and AT&T doesnt really care so long as they get her under a new contract and my contract continues?Would I be better off waiting and doing this in person at my local AT&T store? Will double tap zoom still work under OS 3.0? If not, that will be poorly thought out, double tap zoom is perfect for one handed use of the iPhone. Wouldnt hold and tap over text be better for copy and paste selection? Ie hold for zoom then tap to select. I dont want to lose my double tap zoom. powerbook g4 1.25ghz 2GB Mac OS X (10.5.7)
I didnt see this mention in the keynote coverage, but does the new 3GS Safari finally have Flash support? The description of it is On Safari, you see the real web — not a stripped-down mobile version — whether you’re connecting via Wi-Fi, 3G, or EDGESince the real web includes Flash, this seems to indicate that the 3GS would have it, but Id like to confirm it. Just think - O2 and other phone companies are NOT ALLOWING US to buy a new iPhone 3GS!!!Surely Apple cant be hapy about that. With Apple products, traditionally we all eagerly await new models and cant wait to shell out our hard-earned cash to get the latest Apple thing! And now, for the first time, we have a 3rd party preventing us from doing so. We all have to buy ourselves out of our contracts, just to be able to tie ourselves into another one!I cant afford to do that as well as buy a new iPhone, and I guess others will be similarly frustrated. Apple must be livid! Cant see any stock shortages this time.Surely Apple and the phone companies need to get together on this one. We WANT to buy, but cant!Pete Bell, UK Intel iMac, powerbook G4, iPhone 3G, iPod, Airport Mac OS X (10.5.4)
I have an iphone G3. It has suddenly started to only allow emergency calls and shows the connect to iTunes images on screen (USB + arrow + ItUnes). It is fully charged. When I try to connect the phone to iTunes, I simply get an unknown error message: An unknown error occurred (-9807) Please try again later. I have restored the iphone and still get the same messsage. From searching around the forums, I thought error -9807 was specific to Windows/iTunes problems. Is it dead? Luckily the phone is still in warranty. powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.3.x)
Im moving to Rome with my job for eight months, then on to Chicago for four months, then back to London. Im trying to find out if I buy an unlocked Pay as You Go iPhone in one of the various EU countries selling manufacturer unlocked units (France, Germany, Italy, etc) , will it work in each country if I switch to that countrys telecoms Sim cards. The blogs and iPhone dedicated websites are full of opinions but no one seems to have definitive experience doing this. Some users say it should work, others say the EU iPhones are unlocked for the specific country of purchase but will not work with another countrys telecoms Sim cards. The Apple Stores will not confirm any usage outside their own country. Similar response from the relevant telecoms. The Apple Support pages do not make any reference to cross country usage beyond roaming.A privately unlocked iPhone is an option but I prefer an official unlock so there are no hassles. Not looking for opinions here - can find more than enough on the internet. Im looking for actual first hand experience using these officially unlocked iPhones between countries. iMac Intel 2.8GHz/4GB RAM, iMac Intel 2.66GHz/2GB RAM, powerbook G4 05 Mac OS X (10.5.7) iPhone 3G, assorted iPods and iPod Touch

First - note that Ihad a failing HD on MacBook Pro (Seagate) had a recovery group extract and replace as under AppleCare still. So this was my first attempt to sync my iPhone with my pro since I had the new hard drive.Anyway - sync starts OK - did the photos and the backup; when trying to do the sync on calendar, contacts or bookmarks (I tried each separately by turn off the sync on the other two) - just says syncing xxx with the iPhone and keeps acting as if doing something - until I stop (much later.the audio, video, ringtones,. . . all seem to have sync-ed (as I turn off the three info items and says synced.ideas?thanksBenn powerbook Pro Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.5.1) 2.4Ghz; 2G memory

Hi everyone,I woke up this morning and tried to use my iPhone to make a call. It dials normally, but there is no audio at all. I cant hear ringing or the person answering the phone on the other end. They cant hear me. Ive done a lot of googling on this, and have tried various fixes (resetting the settings, bringing the headphone plug in and out several times). But I dont have a problem with other audio on the phone. My iPod is working normally. So its not a trouble with the speaker, nor the oft-discussed headphone problem. I can hear the phone ring, I just cant connect once I answer.Any ideas? There isnt room at the genius bar where I live until Sunday.Ive done a restore, but it didnt seem to help. HELP! Cant figure out how to do this...Seems like one product does this and another product does that...So I came here looking for help Maybe Im asking for too much. LOLWhat I want is a product that I can get Handsfree for in my car (since our state is making it illegal to talk on cellphone without having handsfree, plus I dont want to use a bluetooth ear piece), have the phone call go through my car speakers, keep phone charged and then also use the function of the iPod with my radio controls without having to use the actual iPhone to control what I want to listen to. Hi,I just wonder is there any simple device/way to pass Internet connection from PC (not Mac) to iPhone. By “pass” I mean use PC as a bridge for distributing wirelessly internet connection; the same way like NetShare app is working but other way around. I am probably dreaming here but anyone came up yet with some device like that, like some wireless USB flash drive which plugged in automatically stealing/sharing internet from that PC and can be picked up by iPhone?I am dreaming, am I? I got an iPhone 3G on a business contract less than 14 days ago and the 3G Signal in my home and work area is a joke compared to other networks. So its virtually useless as a mobile multimedia device compared to my HTC on another network. When I am at home or work (even in between) my HTC on Orange has full bar and show HSDPA (H) whereas my iPhone does not even get Edge(E)most of the time its GPRS(G)I have checked the 02 coverage map on the internet and I am well within the area of supposedly receiving a great 3G signal. Why on earth did Apple sign up with O2 in the UK? This has got to be the worst network for data. Before I take the phone back today for a refund and agreement cancellation does anyone else have issues with 3G????????Message was edited by: WinDoze9T8 powerbook G4 (1.67) 15" 2Gb Ram 100GBHD Mac OS X (10.5.4) 27 Years of computing with 12 Years of Apple Computing :-)

Cant simply Sync, iTunes is forcing me to Restore my iPhone. The thing is I dont want to Restore because Im not having problems. My iPhone itself is operating just fine. Why is this happening out of nowhere? Being forced to restore when I just want to Sync...Can I bypass this? So heres some detail: I plugged my iPhone in to sync as usual and instead of seeing the average screen which shows music, video, photos, etc, iTunes ONLY GIVES ME 2 OPTIONS and the following alert window:- - - -An iPhone has been previously synced with this computer.Set up as a new iPhoneRestore from the backup of: My iPhone 3G- - - -Im not having any problems with my iPhone. I dont want to restore it. Ive tried restarting the iPhone (both the forced reset and the slide to power off methods), I tried force quitting iTunes, I tried restarting the Mac too.Can anyone tell me how to *bypass this screen and just get back to the typical sync process*?1 Last note... In the iTunes display (the area at the top of the iTunes window that shows song titles and such) it occasionaly states: Verifying My iPhone 3G... Not sure if that means anything but it is happening.I need help. Thanks in advance for your time.LarryFYI: Im running the latest... iPhone OS 2.2.1 and iTunes 8.1.1 (still on OS X 10.5.6 too) MacBook Pro - iMac G5 - powerbook G4 Mac OS X (10.5.6) 16GB iPhone 3G - 1G 2GB Black Nano
For the past few days, my iPhone 3G, 8GB has been bugging out on a regular basis. It has not sustained any damage in any way. It has also been updated to the 2.2.1 (5H11) back when it came out.My first issue is that most all of my apps are not working. As soon as they reach the loading screen for each app., they close immediately and go to the main screen. This consist of most of my added-on, paid for apps. I dont know why or what, but suddenly they stopped working. This also includes safari. Its also randomly crashing when browsing.A second issue is that it is frequently making bad connection calls. I will place a call, it will connect to the recipient who can hear me and speak, while I cant hear anything until I have to hang up. It does this almost 50% of the outgoing calls I try and sometimes on the incoming ones. Sometimes while this is happening, my signal indicator goes to an O shape..... sometimes the E. Either way inappropriately, as this happens in common, otherwise full signal areas.Any help, particularly in regards to the crashing apps would be appreciated. Ive got about $50 worth of apps, that do nothing. PowerMac G5 (x2); powerbook G4-12"; MacBook Pro-15"; iMac G5-20"; iPhone 3G-x2 Mac OS X (10.5.6)
I took my phone to an Apple Store as I was having issues. The Genius hooked it up to his laptop and did some diagnostics. Everything seemed swell so he sent me on my way. Now when I try to download an app I am unable to, as he my phone is logged in with his account. In addition to this issue, when I try to access the iTunes store I get a message:Cannot Connect to the iTunes Store: The iTunes Store is not supported in this countryHow can I reset the account to my account instead of this account??? This may have been discussed here before, but its worth repeating: If you are a US ATT customer and you travel to a foreign country, you WILL be charged international roaming fees if your phone simply RINGS. Thats right - if you place no calls and do not answer any calls, you will be charged for 1 minute of international roaming every time your phone even rings. In my case, traveling to Japan cost me $2.29 for the privilege of having my iPhone ring each time in Tokyo.ATT says that the mere connection to my phone to make it ring is considered a roaming charge. Sorry, but to me if I dont answer the phone or talk to anyone I cannot see how this is roaming. Wow, SoftBank and ATT are making some nice coin for a 5 second connection with zero voice transmission!A warning - put your iPhone in Airplane Mode when you step on the plane or boat, and dont take it out of Airplane Mode until you return home, or hearing your ringtone is going to be very costly indeed. powerbook G4 Titanium 500MHz Mac OS X (10.4.11)

I have an original iPhone which has not yet been activated. Its been sitting around for some time, never used. Before I activate it, I wanted to bring the software current. I connected to iTunes and checked for updates. There was some kind of software or firmware recommended (was it 2.2.1...or something like that?) and I went through the install procedure. Everything completed, but now iTunes wont recognize my phone. I get a cant connect, unknown error, OxE8000001 message.I did have a web browser open and clicked on a few sites while iTunes was running the upgrade. I dont know if that interrupted it and damaged the upgrade or if the problem is something entirely different. Strange question. I won an iPhone in a raffle and I have no use for it, so its going up on eBay. Only thing is, I know nothing about iPhones. I do know enough to know that it is not the latest greatest version, but I dont know how many generations of iPhones there have been, or how to refer to it, or what features to mention in eBay ad to sell it properly. I currently have an original iPhone that seems as though it is stuck in DFU mode. I cannot turn the iPhone on or restart it, and when I plug it into iTunes, the screen is on but black and iTunes says detects an iPhone is restore mode and must be restored before it can be used. Thats fine, but when I do try to restore it, the iPhone seems to quite when installing the software and iTunes tells me the iPhone could not be restored and give me an error 1618. I have tried reinstalling iTunes, tried two other computers, cables, you name it.Now, let me say also that I have had this phone added to a buddys developers list to test his app on the new 3.0 software which complicates things Im sure. I was in the process of installing the newest beta release when this happened. For this newest beta release it was required to update iTunes to the 8.2 beta, which I did. (Thats a lot of betas) I know there are risks when it comes to betas, just wondering if anyone had any ideas on where to go from here. 15" powerbook 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.4.11) Original iPhone, iTunes 8.2b7

Hello,I have just recently purchased a brand new Bose White Sounddock. It took me a while to find one in white as the more recent ones are in black or silver. Its the original one without the aux input that claims to charge most ipods under 5g.I do have an iphone 3g & wondered if I can use this with the dock?I have googled this & found numerous different reports as to whether it will work or not? I have heard that it may play my music but may not charge the iphone, also heard due to the pin differences between usb & firewire this may fry my iphone?? I havent tried it yet & I am curious as I would like to be able to use the dock with my iphone aswell as my ipod.I have also noticed there are some expensive work-arounds with cables which can act as an aux output (cablejive) & also belkin do make a charge converter. Maybe there is a cheaper alternative? ebay etc... I am wondering if I need to spend extra money or do I drop it in the dock & hope for the best?? I have purchased 2 iPhone on launch (original EDGE 8G phones) with phone numbers A and B.On Monday, the iPhone with number A failed. I went to Apple store and replaced the failed iPhone EDGE with iPhone 3G. This new iPhone 3G pickup phone number A. It operated fine and easily dialed into 3G networks near home. When I returned home, my wife wanted the new phone but her EDGE iPhone did not fail. So, I swap the SIM cards so that the iPhone 3G now has phone number B and her EDGE iPhone is now on phone number A.The EDGE iPhone works fine with phone number A. However, the new iPhone 3G with Phone number B no longer connects to 3G networks. I tried to cycle power, reset phone, ... move around to areas which has coverage.
