Come on people, its pretty simple, apple no longer supports3g and the iPhone. The fix is out there, on the Internet and apple does not approve of it. iTunes is even written to twart the fix, I can prove it.My iPhone 3g works like new with ios 3.1.3. macbook pro 17 inch 2.33 ghz Mac OS X (10.5.8) iphone 3g, powermac g5 dual 2.0, g3lombard, 12 inch PowerBook
This is a strange one that I cant find anywhere. When I got my i4 on launch day I was instantly impressed by how smudge resistant the display was compared to my 3G. If there were finger prints on the screen it would take one or two wipes and be spotless. Suddenly two days ago I noticed a strange phenomenon - a blotchy looking smudgy pattern like a small leopard print was forming on the middle area off the display, which when outside really made viewing of the screen an awful experience. Getting rid of this smudge is not so simple- it takes using a specific polishing cloth or a paper tissue and usually some cleaner. Great I thought its finally gone. 10 mins later its back in the EXACT same pattern in the EXACT same position. This is definitely some sort of smudge ON screen NOT underneath as if I try and wipe of with my shirt or most types of cotton, its smudges around the screen, yet it ALWAYS reforms in the same place again after a few mins. WEIRD!The glass on my iMac screen has always behaved like this too (and I dont touch that)- is it to do with heat under the screen or electrical fields?! I dont know. What Im wondering is if apple will try and make out this is just regular smudges on my screen or if they will agree that its not quite normal. I can only have a clean screen for 2 mins then the leopard is back p***ing me off! Friends iPhone does nothing like this and we bought them together. Can anyone shed light on this?! Long shot I know. People are probably thinking get over it its just a smudge but it really is more than the average smudge (I had iphone for 2 years I know the difference) and its making this retina display completely ruddy pointless. Just bought the new iPhone4 but now have a huge issue I was not previously aware of. Why is it that even Apple has the notion that no one ever changes their email address? You must enter your email address to be able to log on and find out why the log in is not accepting your password or username. You are then told you will be notified at your registered email address WHICH I NO LONGER HAVE. Receiving emails at a defunct email address does no one any good. So, I signed up as a new account with apple but now my purchased items are locked away from me and do not show up as useable on my new MacBook Pro nor my new iPhone4.How can I resolve this painting myself into a corner issue?TIA,Ken PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.5.7) 2G RAM
Like many folk upgrading my iPhone 3G has been the most miserable Apple upgrade Ive every experienced. After waiting 3 1/4 hours for the upgrade to complete, I thought things were OK.But I no longer got Mobile Me updates to Address book and Calendar (before iOS 4 upgrade these were almost instantaneous and worked like a charm for over a year).I tried turning off and then re-establishing my Mobile Me account - no improvement. Then phone started getting very hot when in sleep and would run battery to 0 in an hour or two. Plugging in to recharge, it crashes while recharging (spinning wheel superimposed on battery). Turned off Notifications, Turned off Push - still gets very busy and crashes (i use iStat application to see CPU queue grow to > 3). Clicking Contact or Address book spins the busy wheel endlessly and eventually crashes. iStat shows free memory going to zero.Do other people reporting this problem ALSO have large contact lists (about 3.4kK for me) and large Calendars (I keep several years, but average just a few events per week)? Is the memory footprint of iOS 4 with iPhone 3G just too big for folk with large Address Book / Calendar? iPhone 3G 16GB iOS 4 also iPhone and PowerBook G4 at home
Word of warning, the latest update has wiped my entire phone, and the restore option hasnt restored anything. Running version 3.1.3, take a picture with the camera, open safari, open a picture in a email, etc. sometimes the phone just shuts down. Battery will be 90%-100%, however immediately shows a low battery and will turn off. Hook up to either a wall charger or via computer USB and the battery returns to 90%-100%. Hard resets, restore, etc. all have no effect. Sent the phone in for a Battery replacement to apple, they returned the phone with out replacing the battery and indicated that the battery was fine and they could not duplicate the problem. If I use the phone only the battery lasts for days, any ideas out there?ThanksGreg PowerBook 17", Imac 20" Mac OS X (10.6.4) Live type, Photoshop 7, Illustrator 10
Hi, i have an iPhone 3G 16gb that i want to sell, but because of a small 5mm long hairline crack in the back of the phone most recycling sites online will only offer me the minimum amount for it… stupid really because the rest of the phone is perfect!!Does anyone know where i can get official iPhone 3G parts/spares so i can replace the back and sell it for the full amount again? Hi, someone that I know is in the process downgrading from 4.0.1 to 3.1.3. His iphone 3G was set up with iTunes on a old mac notebook before he bought a mac book pro. He transferred the home folder on the old mac notebook that he synced with his iphone to the new mac book pro. Since that time, he has been using the iTunes on the newer notebook to sync with his iphone 3G.He wanted to know if somehow he can integrate the old mac notebook information with getting his stuff back on the iphone so that he doesnt have to go through a whole process of getting all his information back once he downgrades? The old mac notebook had a backup of the older iphone OS on it btwAlso, if he does a backup with the current iTunes before he goes through this downgrade, could he create a new account on his mac book pro and wipe his information off his iphone using the new account that he made, would there be any benefit to doing this? How does the current iTunes get affected when you do this downgrade using the current iTunes? What happens with some of the information thats in iTunes when youre doing this downgrade with the iTunes that you always use. Thanks in advance for any info. emac, pismo and PowerBook G4 12" Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Hi —Im trying to find out what happens when an iPhone is disconnected from its mobile operators network, when a contract is terminated or the number is ported across to another phone. I have a company iPhone which I need to give back as Im leaving the job. Before I gave it back, I wanted to sync it so I could delete all the music, photos and apps from it. Unfortunately when I was trying to sync, iTunes seemed to hang for ages with a spinning beach ball. So I force quit iTunes but it happened again, so I force quit again and then unplugged my iPhone. It wouldnt respond so I tried to restart it. Now all I get is the silver Apple logo on a black background for about a minute, then the screen goes black. What I want to know is this a problem with the phone because of the iTunes crash or is it because the phone has been disconnected from the mobile operator?Any help appreciated. Thanks. iMac/24inch/3.06Ghz/10.5.8 + PowerBook/15inch/867mhz/10.4.11
My visual voicemail seems to be broken. Im currently running 4.0.1 on my phone and I originally noticed this problem after upgrading to 4.0. I found out something was wrong because the other night I switched my phone to Airplane mode and a red dot appeared on the phone saying that Visual Voicemail was not available. So I held down the 1 on my keypad and called my voicemail. Turns out I had voicemail messages ranging from a few days prior to a couple weeks ago. I had no idea any of these were there and if it wasnt for the red dot coming up after switching to Airplane mode Im convinced I still wouldnt know I had unheard voicemails. Ive tried numerous things including holding down the buttons until the phone restarts and that doesnt seem to work. My missed calls are also not always working because one of the voicemails I had never showed up from a missed call. That was the one from a couple weeks ago. Also, it might show I have a missed call and the caller may leave a voicemail but it wont show up as a voicemail. Again, the only way to check and see if the caller left a message is to hold down the 1 key on the keypad and check voicemails that route. Even though I have everything backed up I really dont want to reset or restore my phone and lose all my settings and data including data and phone counters.Any ideas? Apologies if this is too obvious. Up until now Ive never used iTunes to sync my music with my iPhone. My mac doesnt have a lot of spare HD space, so I didnt want to use up 10-15GB in duplicated data. Right now Ive realised (like everyone else) that iOS 4 delivers almost no benefit to 3G owners, but comes with a big speed penalty, so Im thinking about upgrading back to 3.1.3. The problem is that I know this will delete all the music from the 3G, and reloading from individual disks is a very tedious process.Question is, can I reverse-sync my 3G with iTunes? By that, I mean can I transfer all the music on my 3G back to iTunes? PowerBook 17" Mac OS X (10.6.4)

After spending many hours trying to install ios4 on my G3 iPhone, I was saved from the horror stories I found here when I sought assistance. After realizing that Apple has not offered much assistance, and very many of you have had serious problems with and installing ios4, I just stopped trying the update. Thanks for all of the warnings, the most helpful being the clear lack of assistance from Apple. Hello,I know there have been multiple posts on this topic but i wanted to post so others can see.I updated my 3G to the new OS4 and have had no problems. I think the reason for this is thefact that i did a restore from ITunes instead of just updating. It seemed to work fine and only tookme about 2 hours. I had read an article on TUAW that stated that this is the preferred method to do this for the 3G. I hope this helps others out there and this way is a real time saver. PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.1)

Having regularly used my iPhone since July, I wanted longer battery power for a long (three weeks) car trip. About a month ago I purchased a Griffin car/wall charger at the Apple Store to provide extra juice for iPod mode, noting several others reporting poor results online. After about half the storage capacity is drained, the iPhone may 1) shut off 2) reset by itself. I use the car charger to charge completely before using again, and 1 and 2 may still occur within a few minutes. I am driving a 2007 camry hybrid and sometimes forget to unplug the phone from the charger when I turn the car off, but dont leave it for any length of time (realizing when I turn the car off, I need to take the phone with me...).Since returning home, and using the car charger just before arriving, the iPhone appears to be draining within 7 or 8 hours, even when I have connected it to its home dock, connected to the wall outlet. The iPhone used to last a couple of days, other than when in iPod mode. I havent changed my settings or habits of use, and I have reset it. Will this go away? My husband had had some similar draining problems with his Razr during this trip: finally he took the battery out and cleaned it and popped it back in, probably effectively resetting (I had suggested this). Then after a couple of days (and ineffective searching for a replacement battery), it started taking up the charge and holding it again. It seems that there are a variety of possibilities (playing Pearl Jam concerts not one of them) but similar remedies. Im not even sure whether the unique qualities of the hybrid system added another issue for the iPhone, but my husband didnt use his car charger at all.I read many forum discussions and noticed folks had trouble with travel issues, including car chargers and hotel outlets. I would rather not do a restore. Any ideas?Message was edited by: Alice Dubiel iPhone 8g, PowerBook g4 and desktop g4 Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Saturday evening, I decided to buy three additional ringtones for my iPhone, so I picked the songs and purchased ringtones. They show in iTunes just fine, and when I synced, they were put into ringtones in iTunes just fine. But when I look at my iPhone, it had three of the same ringtone. When I selest them as a ringtone on the phone, they are all the same song. When I click them in iTunes, they are all different. I tried deleting them from the phone and rebooting the phone to no avail. Anyone got a suggestion on how to handle this?If this has already been covered, please forgive me. My wife and I both currently have iPhone 3Gs on a Family Talk plan that are eligible for upgrades to iPhone 4.I seem to recall from when when the 3GSs came out that you could only buy single-line plan phones online for activiation through iTunes. Okay, so, I recently wanted to put some new ringtones and such on my iPhone, but my phone is synced to my old PowerBook g4 and I got a Mac Mini a few months back. I have yet to sync it and I guess im gonna get around to doing that now. However, iTunes says it will erase data when I sync it to my Mini, and Im just wondering what exactly it will erase. I dont care about music or apps as I can get them back. Now Im a little more worried about my text messages and contacts. I text a lot, and I really love the idea of having all of my texts at my fingertips from last week or even last year. I dont particularly want to lose all of them. So all in all, my question is:What exactly will be deleted by syncing my iPhone to a different computer? Thanks. iPhone OS 3.1.3

I am having problems with my iPhone 3G knowing where I am. In playing around with the Maps app, I press the Locate button in the lower left. When I first open the program it is a greyish blue color. I can press it again and it turns greyish blue again or I can press it once more and it turns blue again. What are these different colors for?The goofy thing is that my wifes identical phone most often is right on. Hi there, So, Ive been having some very interesting service issues with my iPhone 3G. Ill give some examples! Camano Island, Washington: Ill look at my phone and have 4 bars of 3G service. Ill set it down in that same location and come back two minutes later and its saying Searching or No service. (Ive contacted AT&T and they say that no issue exists and they refuse to look into it.) Bellevue, Washington (size comparable to Seattle): Had my phone seating next to my dads iPhone edge, he had 5 bars with edge data while my 3G said searching, then went to 1 bar of 3G. Minutes later came the 3 bars of 3G in a location where I really should have 5 bars. Edmonds, Washington (in my house): I get 3-4 bars of 3G in some parts of my house, but sometimes it just likes to go to 1 bar or no service. Lynnwood, Washington (heres what really ****** me off): My friend has a G1 from T-Mobile, I can be sitting right next to him in a class room, next to a window, and he will have full 3G service (which is commonly faster than my 3G) where my phone will be struggling to find 1 or 2 bars. Also, outside of the school, out in the open, it will be Searching for about 3 minutes before it can go to 2 bars. Randomly I can have 5 bars as well. In another classroom, I sit right next to a Window and get No Service while others have full. I only have a few months left on my AT&T contract and I am very motivated to leave my iPhone and switch to the myTouch at T-Mobile, which is a much more open source OS that can tether.
