How to manage ringtones Timing of what ringtone not syncing iphone

Does anyone have any idea if there is an app or a way to manage your ringtones in terms of time of the day? During work hours, I would like my ringtone to be a vibrate, or something unobtrusive, since its quiet. However, outside work hours, Id like it to be something more obtrusive so I dont miss it. This is similar to profiles for blackberry users. Any ideas? I dont see anything in settings, but not sure if Im missing something, or if there is an app that would provide this functionality. WiFi possible fix iphone 3G

I believe that after updating to 2.2 my WiFi at my office didnt work so well. The router would sporadically show up but drop the connection. Turns out that 3 out of 5 of us have this problem. I did discover that resetting my iphone made WiFi work good as new for us but only for a day it seems. Plus I had to redo all of my settings and icons which was a pain in the butt.Yesterday I tried just resetting the iphone network settings. So far, not only has that worked, but I dont have to redo all of my personal settings. Does anyone know if iphone has a way to change boring ringtones for incoming e-mail or text message to a custom ringtone. I have custom tones that say you have mail or message and would like to change them. I can not find if it is possible to do this. Switching to 3G from old iphone cant xfer my personal stuff help

So, I just upgraded to 3G from the old iphone and received the brand new phone from AUS, I work in Baghdad and need the unlocked model for different sims. I followed Apple instructions and backed up my old 1st, but when I activated the 3G, it only gave me the new phone option. I didnt see it or it didnt give me the option of restoring from my old backup. So I think now Itunes has me with 2 phones on the same account, they both come up as my phone, old is 8GB and the new is 16GB, having the same name. The new phone is unlocked by Apple and took all my info, but no settings, SMS, recents, notes, etc... The old phone still has my old info and settings on it, I tried to back it up and put it on the new, but no success. I only have the sim from AT&T and I switch it back and forth for the transfer, not certain if that matters. iphone 3G Problem-Asking for replacement

hello, first of all i live in an African Country, the iphone 3G was recently launched by ORANGE here, i purchased one from the Orange store for Christmas and i am experiencing a lot of problems.First of all when i was waiting for my iphone to be activated in the store, the employee said that they were experiencing problems with my iphone 3G, to make a long story short, they replaced the sim card and the phone seemed to work.after about a week of using the phone, ive noticed:-some of my calls are being dropped randomly-the metal frame around the plastic bit hasnt been glued (manufactured) properly, a fraction of a mm of light is emmiting from one side of the phones metal framework-my phone randomly tells me theres no service and then suddenly 10mins later i get full service (without moving the phone, the same happens with my wi-fi)-my phone randomly goes on silent (the ringtone is on the loudest, and the silent button hasnt been activted)Can someone give me advice on what i should do? do i go to ORANGE and ask them to give me a new iphone? what should i tell them exactly?its a first hand phone, i havnt dropped the phone, and yes i have already tried reformatting the phone, and i still have the same problems, and in case your wondering, NO i did not jailbreak my iphone 3G - 8GB iphone 3G - 8GB Mac OS X (10.5.6) Malfunctioning - Replacing

ringtone not copied to iphone Issue 3G

I bought a ringtone compatible track from iTunes today on my laptop. Made my ringtone, bought it, downloaded it to the same authorized account laptop. Went to synch my iphone to upload it. I get the message (Track) was not copied to (your) iphone because you are not authorized to play it on this computer. My laptop IS one of my authorized accounts (3 of 5). Confirmed by the ringtone I bought on the same laptop & downloaded with no issue the night before. I deauthorized the computer, then re-authorized it. I restarted both the laptop & and iphone (G3). Same thing. I had the same track already in my iTunes library from years previous from the original CD. So I deleted it, thinking perhaps it was interfering with the newly purchased track. Want to go from 8GB iphone 3G to 16GB iphone 3G

I have a simple question, and think I know the answer, but was hoping for first hand experience. I currently have a black 8GB iphone 3G, which I bought this past July. Ive realized that 8GB is not sufficient for the amount of music and video I like to carry around, so Id like to buy a white 16GB iphone 3G. I understand that since I already bought an iphone 3G this year, I am not eligible for the subsidized price, so I am prepared to pay $499 for the unsubsidized white iphone 3G, and sell my current iphone 3G on Craigslist or eBay or something.What would be the process for this? Do I go to the Apple Store, tell them I want to buy an unsubsidized iphone 3G, and they will move my number and such over to my new iphone? Then my current iphone would be un-activated, and it would be up to the new owner to activate.Am I correct? Ive heard a ton of people complaining about this, saying its a huge hassle to do. I would like to see an update that allows any song, even ones not purchased from the itunes store, to be made into ringtones. Many of the songs I have from cds would have been usable as ringtones if I had bought them from the itunes store. I do not think that I should have to pay for a song twice in order to be able to use it as a ringtone. Has anyone heard of such an update? Only default ringtone plays iphone

Only the default ringtone plays when a person calls on my phone even though I have different ringtones set for contacts. I use Mobile Me contact syncing...and like it a lot. I placed a bug report in iphone feedback, but was curious is anyone else has this problem and found a solution. I have done reset and complete restore and still have the issue. Replacement iphone 3G and IMEI and out-of-system text messaging failure

I wont mention how many phones I have had swapped by Apple, but the IMEI (Settings >General >About) have never been changed in the AT&T system without my personal contact with AT&T.Recently, my daughter - using a Sprint phone, has sent me several text messages that I did not receive. Saturday, we were all having lunch together, and I had my daughter send me a text message, which I did not receive; and she sent one to my son (iphone 3G on AT&T) and he did get the message. My son sent me a text message, which I did receive.I later phoned AT&T, verified the IMEI in their system was different, and asked that it be changed to match the one on my iphone. The customer support person tried to change it, but the system gave her an error message. She tried to pass me up to the AT&T iphone gurus, but apparently talked with a less than competent technician, as he told her to refer me to the Apple 800 number.Knowing I would not win an argument that only AT&T can make that change, I waited until today, called Apple who (of course) brought AT&T into the call, at which point the problem was quickly resolved (that is, the correct IMEI entry was entered in the AT&T system). The AT&T Genius even had a Sprint phone and made sure that the text message worked from her Sprint (it did).I am NOT a cell phone engineer or technician, but I do know that the IMEI is less important on the iphone than on most other phones. I have my laptop at home that I do all the updates on and was wondering if I can use my work computer to do this also. If both computers are authorized in itunes. strange chain reaction between iphone and iTunes 3G

I have made my own ringtone using a method picked up on this forum. In short, shortened a tune, converted to AAC, exported to desktop, changed suffix to mp4r. I have re-imported it into iTunes 8.02. It now shows up as a ringtone in iTunes, but not on my iphone. If I check the Sync box it gives me the following dialog,,,Are you sure you wasnt to sync ringtones? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iphone my name here will be removed.This scares the whiz out of me. Im not going to check that box.It is not a purchasable ringtone. Hi I am having quite a problem with my 3G recently. It started as a once in a while issue and then grown to become a constant daily issue. The screen remains black while receiving a call. Meaning: I cant answer the call, the home button doesnt respond, and the top button is the only options. The phone stops ringing, I have then to press the home button again and finally can see who tried to call me.See, this is a very frustrating problem, I use this phone for everything (business + personal) and often I receive calls from companies that have their number encrypted or without revealed extention.I need to know what to do. Hello,Heres the story:This morning, for no reason, my iphone showed No music in the iPod app, while the space was still used (about 5Go)When connecting it to iTunes, it says that the content cannot be read, and I have to restore (this is not the first time that happens, btw)I bring my personal laptop at work to do it and not waste my whole evening (about 2 hours to restore the whole stuff)I have, of course, no internet connection on my personal laptop while at workI start a restore (by pressing SHIFT+click restore to avoid getting the must contact update server error)I get the wonderful error 6 during the restoreNow, when I connect my iphone to my laptop, iTunes says that it must contact the update server to identify the device. And the iphone doesnt show up anymore in iTunes, so I cannot force the restore with the ipsw file I already have.No, my questions are:When will this crappy error 6 be fixed (and the 9, too, would be good)What do I do? Wait till home and waste my evening to fix this stuff? Any other way to force the restore without internet?Why the **** is that NECESSARY to have internet to restore that iphone?Why is my iphone suddently loosing all the music and getting isolated while I didnt do anything more than synching it from time to time, and install some apps OTA? Is Apple going to do anything about it?I have read that for this particular problem of loosing music and link to iTunes, a solution exists by modifying some system files through some tools that are available only on jailbroken iphone. I have never jailbroken mine, because I respect the rules from Apple. iphone Ringtones Never Stay with Contacts

This has been an ongoing issue, and has recently gotten worse.I have paid for custom ringtones in iTunes, paying $0.99 for each one, and they play properly on my iphone.However, after a few days, the custom ringtones disappear from my contacts that Ive assigned to them, and they restore back to default.My wife has an iphone as well, and doesnt seem to have this problem. I am a MobileMe customer, and I think that could be the issue - i.e. the mobileme syncing screwing it up since there isnt a ringtone category to sink with in the contacts folder.Is there any fix to this?? Just imagine that I am a Marine going into battle, what kind of case would I want.What I need in a case:Hard protection for the iphone overallHard protection for the screen (perhaps most importantly from all the stories I have heard)Shock-absorbing rubber-like protection for if (God forbid) I drop itSeamless protection to protect the iphone including its ports and whatnot from the elements (dust, moisture, kids sticky fingers)What would also be nice:Near as possible waterproofingAccess to using the screenAccess to other functions, buttons, ports, etc. For instance, I would like to charge/sync without taking it out of the caseWont scratch or damage the iphone while being wornWont require me to take out a loanWhat I dont care about:Belt clip. Where I live, you dont want to be walking around with an expensive piece of technology hanging around on your person. You are asking for special attention. Looks, style, sweetness, yeah I know the iphone is sexy but Im more pragmatic and need protection for this very expensive and, lets face it, fragile machine. Its small and will be going everywhere. Looks dont matter much when youre a dead and useless hunk of nothin. Also, I dont care if it looks unprofessional or stupid, where I work you look as professional as you write (please dont take this post as an example of my best work), not by the jacket your phone wears.Bulkiness. I dont care how big the case makes it as long as it can still go in my pocket.I appreciate any of your recommendations whether they are from personal experience or something you have researched yourself. If you do have experience with a case that was meant to be high on protection, then please share your story. iphone situation

Hello everyone, About a month ago while wife and I were getting into our car she finds an iphone sitting on the ground next to the passenger door. The car was parked well into our driveway. I figured we could find hte owner through either some personal info on the screen or by calling one of his/her numbers and hopefully they had caller id but the phone was locked (passcoded). I plugged it into my computer and it gave me the user name the person set in the phone but thats as far as it would go and it was not a proper name more like something you would use for forums. Anyway later in the day we found out that someone was arrested in our driveway early in the morning. We took the phone to the police dept but it wasnt reported stolen and the person arrested hasnt claimed it to be his. IF it is not claimed at the end of 90 days we can claim it ( according to the police) My question is will it be usable or be able to be unlocked if we get it? Custom Windows Vista

Quick question on ringtones iphone 3G

I know how to convert my own songs into ringtones. However, when I try to convert itunes purchased songs into ringtones, it is not letting me. They are saying that it is protected... I know we would have to pay another fee to convert purchased songs into ringtones, but is there a way around this? I mean, if I paid for the song already why would I have to pay again for ringtone...?Can anyone share the way of converting purchased song into ringtone without having to pay again? Ringtones Disappearing with SW Update iphone 3G

Updated iphone 3G to 2.2 last night and this morning when my wife called me, I noticed that her custom ringtone didnt work. Checked and found that all the contacts that I had set up with custom ringtones had been reset to the default one. This is not the first time this has happened and is getting to be a real pain, mostly because I differentiate business from personal calls by ringtone. I would have thought the backup before sync would have taken care of this, but I guess not. Any way to avoid this in the future? iMac G5, MacBook (Black) Mac OS X (10.4.11)

i know theres a way of customizing your ringtones via itunes or third party software, but is there a way of putting a customized ringtone in the iphone without having to buy a third party software? my previous phones such as treo, t-mobile dash, nokia n95, i was able to record various tones and used them as my ring tones. i was wondering if it could be done on the iphone. thanks! ringtones keep going to default iphone

Every ringtone keeps resetting back to the default. Im only using the ones that came with the phone, not any purchased or created ones. Yet every one of my contacts keeps resetting to the default. AND it wont retain the new one when I click edit and change it back. I have to do it about 5 times before itll take and then by the next time the phone rings, theyre all back to the default. There are reasons I have different ones for different people. MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.11)

bought ringtone it plays in itunes but it doesnt work iphone

i followed all the procedures correctly, but the ringtone does not ring when assigned to a contact - all i get is a vibration. it also doesnt play when selected as a ringtone like the others do. i rebooted my phone, but that didnt work either.i really dont want to go through a restore for a single ringtone. is there any other suggestion? 2.16GHz MacBook Pro  2G RAM • 256MB VRAM Mac OS X (10.5)

ONLY 6 different tones to choose from iphone

Why cant you set your own ringtone to a text message or email that comes in?? Very poor thought on there part... The phone can do a lot of very neat things, but why in the world have only 6 choices that you really have to pay attention to hear the 1/2 of a milly second tone to alert you that you have a new text or even worse an email...? Contacts ringtones go away when I sync. iphone

So I just got my iphone 3G and it is having the weirdest problem with contacts and ringtones. I can add the ringtones I made to the contact, but when I resync via iTunes the ringtone isnt on my contact. So now everytime I sync I have to redo my contacts tone. iMac 24" 3.06 ; iPod touch, iphone 3g Mac OS X (10.5.5)
