Bricked iphone 3G after 3.0 upgrade

Hi everyone,title says it all but here are the details:my iPhonewas not jailbreak-ed. performing upgrade form genuine 2.2.1after googling i tried to restore it via itunes doing the following:1) shut down the iphone by pressing home + wake/sleep for ten seconds2) keep the home button pressed and attached the usb cable3) on the iphone screen appears a message which tells me to connect the iphone to the Mac (its already connected)4) iTunes starts and tells me that it detected an iphone in recovery mode and i press OK5) it warns me that it would erase all my personal data and blah blah and I press OK6) the restore process goes flawlessly until..7) it finally says that in order to complete the process it would restart the iphone and tells me to keep it attached to the USB8) after that the iphone keeps restarting again and again (apple logo for a minute, black screen for a while and the restart again)just for the record: i tried restoring to the 3.0, 2.2.1 and 2.2 firmwares. same stuff. i tried different OS too (leopard and vista)while attached, it tries to reboot over and over again, but if i unplug the USB cable it tells me to attach it back to itunes and asks me if i want to do an emergency call.if I attach it back the iphone just freezes until I disconnect the cable again.reading the log file during the restore process it says that the process was successful but after the restart it hangs and keeps on restaring again and again, itunes cannot detect the device and it seems that is unable to activate the phone or something. while in this condition, if i disconnect the USB cable, the phone stops rebooting itself and shows a screen where it asks me to connect the phone to itunes in order ti activate it and gives me the option of doing an emergency call.theres gotta be something I still could do and i dont believe theres no way to entirely erase the phone and reinstall everything from scratch.please help me outthanks iphone 3G iphone OS 3.0

Proper iphone Ringtones 3G

Can anyone tell me what the score is with getting decent ringtones onto your iphone, on the apple site it suggests that via iTunes, this can only be done in the U.S Store. I just want to get a tune that i have downloaded and use part of it as a ringtone. ringtones overwriting iphone

i used to have this problem a while ago and just gave up on it but i decided to try again now that i downloaded the new firmware and the problem still persists. when i drag a custom ringtone into itunes to put on my phone it works perfectly fine but then when i go to put another one on it just copies over the first ringtone and then makes itself again. so instead of having 2 different ringtones i have the 2nd ringtone twice and the first one is gone and if i try to do another song it copies over the first 2 songs and then makes another one of itself so that i have 3 of the same ringtones.i have the most recent firmware and itunes .. any help on how to get multiple ringtones? or why this is happening? custom Windows XP

Custom ringtone settings not saved iphone 3G

Anyone know if there is anything that can be done to preserve ringtone settings? I installed the 3.0 update, and everything went flawlessly, except (just like other updates) the custom ringtones I have assigned to a few directory entries changed back to default. Not really a big deal for me because I only have a few assigned (my immediate family). But it will be a real pain when I apply the update to my wifes phone. She has a assigned a unique ringtone to nearly EVERYONE in her directory <sigh>.I am extremely happy with the new update, but it seems like such a small data element would not be that hard to backup. Hi i have downloaded the last two updates for the new 3.0 and i still have no ringtone when my phone rings but no sound.Yes i have checked and made sure everything is correct in the settings and when you hit a different tone it does make noise,but not when the phone rings i have nothing,it just vibrates.has anybody have this problem or could help me with this.Thank You for the help 3g Windows XP

Screen goes blank after 2 rings when phone locked iphone

This might seem like a dumb question if this is how the phone is designed to work, but when Im using the phone, and the screen is on, the answer/caller id screen stays on the entire time the phone is ringing (as I would definitely expect). However when the phone is locked, the slide to answer/caller id screen goes blank after 2 rings, but the phone continues to ring the final 3 rings (my ringtone is Old Phone). So the only way to see who is calling or answer the phone if I dont get to it by the second ring, when the phone is locked, is to click the home button. So if that is how it is, then I suppose its just a minor annoyance, but if there is an option to change it, or if my phone isnt correctly handling incoming calls, I would appreciate finding that out. iMac 3.06Ghz, uMacBook 2.4Ghz, iphone 3G S 3.0 Mac OS X (10.5.7) 500GB Hard Disk, NVIDIA 8800GS, 4GB RAM

Help with iphone ring and vibrate settings please

I just bought one the iphone 3Gs the other day and I have been wondering if it is possible to have the iphone ring and vibrate when I receive a call and to only vibrate when I receive a text at the same time. I tried setting it on ring mode to a ringtone and vibrate. So that works for calls, but when I receive a text I plays a little tone and vibrates as well... is it possible to get it to just vibrate? I tried selecting none for the tone but then it doesnt vibrate or ring.

personal security issue-Spotlight seaching iphone retrieves deleted email

I naively thought that when I deleted e-mail from my iphone that it was gone. I Just upgraded to 3.0 and used the new Spotlight search feature. I was very surprised to see that many (maybe all?) of my deleted e-mail was found by this search tool, and further that clicking on the search result brought up the entire e-mail (in some cases) or just the header (in others cases).Is there some way to really delete my e-mail? I have an I phone and have downloaded songs from I store - I want to make them into ringtones (option available when you right mouse click= create ringtone) but it comes up with error 11556 - I tunes could not connect to the I store - can anyone explain what is happening and can I fix this ? restore doesnt restore everything iphone 3G

My hard disk crashed the other day so I thought it wise to backup my iphone. As all the information on my disk was lost I selected sync all applications and manually sync music and videos in the iTunes/iPohone presets. When I clicked on apply I saw that the iphone started to erase my installed apps. So I interrupted the process. iTunes then proceeded to backup. Trying to find a way to establish the information that was on my iphone on my Mac I thought I had to restore the iphone and then resync. So I restored the iphone and found that it only reinstalled the official apps in spite of having chosen the backup that I had previous to the restore. So now I have lost all my personal apps and all the music. (all the MobileMe info was re-established without any problem). How can restoring a backup be so confusing and unreliable ? And how do I recuperate all the apps I have bought ? G5 2 x 2.3 GHz, MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Mac OS X (10.5.7)

iphone 3.0 questions

Im thinking about getting the iphone 3.0. I heard that in the previous versions, you couldnt retrieve a video or picture attachment from a text message. Also, I dont think you were able to send a sound clip to your phone via either email or text and then set it as your ringtone. Am I correct about those details? Also, any idea if these are fixed in iphone 3.0?

It took me about 15 minutes online to try and order a new 3GS phone.I entered all my personal info...name, address, social security number, dob...and entered my service plan and hardware choice.It told me to wait a while...and after about 5 minutes it came back with a server error. I tried re-cueing my order...re-entering the info ..and it dumped into a page to enter my Apple ID, to save my settings, which I did. It sent me another page to order a phone thru an Apple Store...but the New 3GS phone wasnt even listed!As unhappy as I am wasting time to order a phone I couldnt order..what happened to all my personal info?Also there was no privacy policy, as required by Federal Law, explaining how they protect my personal information. Hello all, im not quite sure where to submit ideas to apple for consideration so ill post this idea ive got here.With all this talk of a front facing camera on an iphone, most people only think the use of such a thing will be for video conferencing. Now what if it can be used for leaving a recorded video voice mail, and heres how it will work.Someone with an iphone will call another person with an iphone and if that person does not pick up some how the AT&T network detects the type of phone being used and the type of phone the other user on the receiving end has. So when it hits his voice mail it will give an option if youd like to leave a personal video message and if yes it will then activate the video camera on the front of your phone, record for 30 sec, compress and then transmit via 3g or WiFi. hello, I manually manage my mp3, mp4, and m4r files, but I found that if I add a ringtone to my iphone, it will be repeat one of those old ringtone...but in iTunes is good, the only way I can add ringtone is, delet all songs...movies...ringtones....and sync it, but I want to manage them manually, what should I do? ONE ringtone will not sync iphone

OK - I have made a bunch of custom ringtones using Logic. All but one of them with synchronize fine. I followed the same sequence of steps, so I cant figure out why this one isnt working. They all show up in the Ringtones entry for iTunes, but this one doesnt show up in the Ringtones tab in the iphone settings. I cant figure out why this isnt being recognized a ringtone here when all the others are AND when it shows up under Ringtones in another part of the program. Urgent help needed iphone

My 3G iphone has a fault and it is being replaced FOC by O2...tomorrow! Im sure this must have been covered but as a newbie I hope youll bear with me. The ring tones on the iphone are naff to say the least. I bought a ringtone from itunes but it put it in the normal playlist. How do I use it as a ring tone? I found a section in the manual about purchasing a 30 second snippet from a song to use as a ringtone but that only appears to work on the US version. Setting up for 1st time iphone

I am just about to set my i-phone up for the first time and want to get it right.I would like to sync to my work pc for contacts and calendar events using ms exchange/outlook 2003. Usingsynching Entourage and iCal and Mail with iphone 3G

I may be unique in this (and may be crazy to do it this way) but on my MacBook Pro (10.5.6) I use iCal/mail 08 for my personal life and Entourage 08 for my professional life. Is there any way I am going to be able to have everything synch on iphone? I dont care that they stay separate on the iphone, but I want to be receiving both personal and work e-mail on it, and have both calendars available, whether separately or not. Garbled and dropped calls-3G iphone

Hi all,Sorry to be a broken record here but this issue is really bothering me.I upgraded from original iphone in Dec 08. At that time the new 3g worked great. I had no issues with call quality or dropped calls unless I was in a really bad area. I work from home so most of my cell calls are from the exact same location all the time. I use it for work calls.In roughly March 09 things degraded. Dropped calls increased from once a month to one to two a day and often calls if they remained connected were useless garbage calls.My first action as suggested was a new sim card. No help.My second action was to use my AppleCare and get a new phone. Still no good.I then complained to AT&T and was told they had no records of changes but could not tell if a tower antenna had been changed slightly or not. But they also admitted to poor coverage in my area.Strangely I had NO ISSUES until 3 months into the 3g use. I am continuously pinging AT&T on the issue but pretty much that is like talking to a brick wall.Also my 3g (and my sons as well) has started to periodically change from a nice signal like -72 dbm to Searching... for a few seconds then back to -70 dbm. All without me moving one inch.To combat the problem here at home I purchased a cell extender. $300 unit that has an external antenna and repeater in the home. This puts my signal level at -65 dbm at my desk consistently but still I get garbled and dropped calls.My wifes flip phone also on AT&T seems to work fine. No issues here in the home. So this is specific to iphone somehow or perhaps the band it is choosing to use.So I here asking for suggestions on what to try next. Any ideas would be welcome.I still have my original iphone and one thing I have considered is moving my Sim card into my old phone and doing the iTunes restore thing. The question here is obviously Im paying for the 3g plan, I dont mind that but will the original iphone work? Im assuming everything is linked by sim card so if that moves AT&T doesnt really care much about the hardware. Am I right in this?Id like to try using my original phone for a while and see if it has the same signal issues as the 3g. Oh ya... Ive tried the 3g both with 3g enabled and disabled and there is little difference.Also not using the iphone is not an option... Custom Ringtones Not Stick iphone

I have created and transferred several custom ringtones onto my iphone. I have successfully set custom ringtones for specific people in contacts and heard the assigned ringtones when those people call. However, after some time passes, my iphone reverts to the default ringtone (which, on my phone, is a custom ringtone that I created and transferred to the phone). I can reassign the specific ringtones to specific people again and they will ring for those people sgsin, but after a while the ringtone will again revert to the default. It is as if the iphone periodically resets all ringtones to the default.Anyone know how to make ringtones stick to specific contacts? Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I have recently had to restore my iphone from a backup. However my ringtones (created through itunes) werent in the backup. No probs ill make more.But now although they are in the ringtones area in itunes they are syncing to my iphone. I have an phone 3g, use it works great, love it. My brother in law had an iphone 3g, dropped it in water, didnt work, went back to blackberry. 6 months later, he gave me the non-working iphone. Long story short, I eventually got it working. I restored to clear everything off of it and to make sure he personal information was not compromised. Now, I want to let my wife use it as an ipod, and if she likes it, I want to activate it with AT&T. However, it seems the iphone wont do anything until I activate it on AT&T. Ringtones-cant open editor or move to folder or sync iphone

Im a new iphone user. I bought 3 ringtones from itunes. They show up in my itunes under Purchased, and in my music library. They do not have the bell icon next to them as they did in the store window. I read through the forums and saw that I need to use the ringtone editor within the store window before purchasing and downloading. So I went back to the store window, selected a ringtone, clicked on the bell icon and it brought me to a How To page, not to the actual ringtone editor. So I tried selecting the ringtone and going to the Store menu and selecting Create ringtone, but it is grayed out and not available as an option.Am I S.O.L. on the three ringtones I bought that came into my itunes without the bell icon? ATT International Roaming-Warning iphone

This may have been discussed here before, but its worth repeating: If you are a US ATT customer and you travel to a foreign country, you WILL be charged international roaming fees if your phone simply RINGS. Thats right - if you place no calls and do not answer any calls, you will be charged for 1 minute of international roaming every time your phone even rings. In my case, traveling to Japan cost me $2.29 for the privilege of having my iphone ring each time in Tokyo.ATT says that the mere connection to my phone to make it ring is considered a roaming charge. Sorry, but to me if I dont answer the phone or talk to anyone I cannot see how this is roaming. Wow, SoftBank and ATT are making some nice coin for a 5 second connection with zero voice transmission!A warning - put your iphone in Airplane Mode when you step on the plane or boat, and dont take it out of Airplane Mode until you return home, or hearing your ringtone is going to be very costly indeed. ATT iphone NYC DROPPED CALLS-about to give up on iphone

my wife picked me up a 3G 14Gig iphone for christmas. I had nothing but trouble since then. I shut off my black berry pearl and it appears all **** broke lose after that. My calls are dropping every 15 minutes or so. I tried to convince myself it was no big deal since i really like the iphone features. i really wanted the phone to work as i really fell in love with it. However i kept on getting dropped calls to the point that everyone started to complain. my own mother was getting upset trying to talk to me and i had to call her back every 15 minutes or so. So i called ATT and they refer me over to apple. Apple informs me to restore the phone and the settings. That did not work. I was then told to shut off the 3G and that did not work. (Please note i waited several weeks before calling apple back because i really hope things would improve) I then called back and i was informed to take the iphone into Apple genius. the genius looked at the phone and told me they did not see any problems but suggested i erase all applications and get a new sim card. they also stated dont back up my iphone because it might be bad data causing the dropped calls which might be causing the dropped calls. i erase the entire phone and started back over again. I did what they ask and again waited several weeks in hopes things would improve. it did not and i went back to apple again. this time they gave me a new phone and warn me if the same thing happens it must be ATT Problem. i waited several weeks again and i had the same problem. this time i called ATT and the rep notice i have a family plan which consisted of three phones, 1. iphone, 2. wifes black berry pearl 3. my mothers black berry. she asked me does the black berry have dropped call problems? i stated no, then she asked well how can it be a ATT problem? she then check the towers in my area (New York City) she laughed and stated she has never seen so many towers in one area. she then check for trouble on those towers and stated 98 percent are without any problems. she told me there was is nothing more she can do and suggested its an apple problem not ATT. I told her everything i did as per apple including shutting off the 3G. she laugh and stated its a 3G phone why would you need to shut it off? i really did not have a answer for her. overall i felt i been beat! i been lurking in the shadows reading post and following everyones instruction such as turning the phone off at night or letting the battery completely drain and recharging it again. I feel like i am at my wits ends. i send a email to apple explaining everything and the rep really had nothing to say other than take the phone back to apple genuis. im ****** because the genius already told me if the new phone acts up again it would mean an ATT problem. Att is stating its an apple problem. ATT uses the fact i have two other phones in my home with out any problems as proof. The rep even read a april 6 2009 email from her supervisors informing reps about a problem with apples iphone dropped calls. i used my employers black berry today which is also on ATT and never had a dropped call. while i have to carry this black berry 24/7 i never used it to talk for personal use. i found myself not wanting to use the iphone because of the dropped calls. i talked on my employers phone for two whole hours without any dropped calls. on the i phone two hours would have mean at least 5-7 dropped calls. my next step is to find out how to get out of apple contract. any advice would be helpful on the dropped calls or getting out of the contract would be helpful. dell Windows 2000 none

Strange iphone 3G behavior

Whenever I call my wife on her iphone 3G in certain possibly spotty areas, she doesnt hear the ringtone (although the vibrate button is off), and only vibrates. When she tried to unlock the phone to answer, the screen freezes and she has to reboot the phone. Its hard to reproduce repeatedly, but usually only happens when were in New Jersey. Sometimes whenever she answers, all I hear is a loud computer noise like static. I have to call back a few times and then I can hear her. Im using the same phone with a shared data voice and data plan. I tried reinstalling her iphone OS recently through iTunes. Can anyone help? ringtone syncing iphone

I have created ringtones. They do not appear in Itunes music, they do appear in Ringtones. In Itunes, when the ringtone is clicked it plays correctly. I have tried to sync with either all ringtones or selected ringtones selected, along with Sync ringtones being selected. Itunes is set to automatically sync when iphone is connected. I am using a WinXP computer. Its a brand new phone with 16Gb and all other sync items have worked flawlessly.Suggestions for troubleshooting would be appreciated.So far all of my attempts have failed. Gateway

Hi I bought a ringtone on my iphone today and I can see it in the purchased downloads, and I can see on my MacBook after sync, but it does not appear in the list of ringtones on my iphone, so I cant set it as my default. okay, i recently got a box to send my iphone back to get fixed(the speaker is damaged) well the computer that I need to back up my iphone on is broke. I was wondering how long can I keep the box?
