Sometime around the Feb 8, I suddenly lost capability to access the internet thru the Virgin/Sprint 3g network and Safari. Wifi works fine, as well as phone and text. Have contacted Virgin multiple times with no result. Spent 3 hours in Apple store, who gave me a new 4s but it has the same problem. Have tried every solution seen on the net, including soft & hard reboots, toggling Airplane mode, and network reset. I have not yet done a factory reset, holding that as a last resort. Odd thing is that some apps do work on 3g: Phone, Messages, Google Maps, Translator, Game Center, Skype, Clock, Xfinity TV, iCloud, and Opera Mini. What doesn't work are: Safari, Weather Channel, Xfinity Mobile, Google, Chrome, dictionary, Stocks, Apple App & iTunes Store, Movie Night, Gas Buddy, White Pages, Apple Maps, Google Earth, and many more. The odd thing is that I can access Google through Opera Mini, and that works fine. I left the Apple Store convinced that the problem lay with Virgin Wireless, but after a lot of online investigation, I am beginning to think that it may be an iPhone problem. Is there anybody out there who can make some sense of what works and what doesn't and diagnose this problem so I can get the phone working back to where it is supposed to?
When I was using 5.1.1, the built-in dictionary gives me English meaning when iPhone language is set to English and Japanese meaning when iPhone language is set to Japanese. After upgrading to iOS 6, I can no longer get English meaning of Japanese words from the built-in dictionary. Whether I set my iPhone language to English or Japanese, the meaning is always displayed in Japanese. Please help.
I'm having the same issue. I thought it was just my iPhone and decided to try a few things, reset restart the UI (just resetting keyboard dictionary usually can do it for small things), no luck, Reset Network settings, soft reboot, hard reboot, Almost wanted to restore. Then I found your post here, only 3 hours ago. Been having this issue too, I even uninstalled iTunes on my PC! The App Store must be down or busy like you said. Same problem. It also crazily started when I tried to update my apps, kept pressing Update All, nothing was happening, no dialog for password, nothing. my first thoughts were, What The Heck?! Then I noticed the rest of the App Store wasn't working either. They must be re-doing the whole thing or something.
I have a problem for eight months now. My iPhone lasts all day on wifi, but loses a percent every 1-2 websites when loading on a 3G network? Does anybody's iPhone do the same, or is it a corrupt app? I've done many restores; from backup and without backup. Same issue. I'm pretty sure it's an app that runs in the background when i close it from the multitasking bar. but I could never figure out what it is! I've done every battery tip on the forums and still no help! Any input would mean the world to me. Thank you very much!! Millions of people have a "rota" in their work place, whereas probably about fifty know someone called Rita. Please, for the love of God, add "rota" to your dictionary. It's an utter pain. And don't tell me to "add shortcut". It doesn't work. It just changes "rota" to "tots" and the capitalised version to Rita, still.
Hi guys, Need your help and some thoughts around a couple of issues. I've got an iPhone 4S which is still under warranty (through Vodafone contract). From Day 1 I've been facing these issues, but never really took it seriously (thinking Apple products can never be defective!!):a. While playing certain games, the touchscreen often goes unresponsive. Example Fifia Manager, Fifa 12, and Need for Speed Hot pursuit Lite.b. The accelerometer also seems to be having some issues. When I play games like Lane Splitter or Temple Run and when I tilt the phone towards right to move the bike/character towards the right, it goes left and vice-versa. Have been through a couple of troublehshooting steps, but not sure if the above issues are hardware related or software related. Troubleshooting steps:a. Restarted the phone (all the above games work well for a couple of days and then the issue pops up again)b. Reset all settingsc. Uninstalled and re-installed the above gamesd. Restarted the games Appreciate if any of you could help me with the above issues. Thanks!
I do not speak English, I can only write with a dictionary

Hi, I was just wondering if it is possible to get a Welsh keyboard setting for the iPhone? The only way to text in welsh at the moment is to turn the dictionary off but you still don't have all the correct characters.Just wondering if anyone can advise?ThanksRachel
I'm not here to report a problem. I'm just asking, out of curiousity. Yes, I've seen all the threads, and read the obligatory items on optimizing settings for power saving. Heck, I'm a "battery miser". I have no problem with premature battery drain. In fact, I'm a "light" user of my iPhone 4s, and have no problem getting an unusually long time out of a charge! Perfectly satisfactory. However, I do *not* have Siri turned on (fear of battery impact). I was thinking of "toying with" Siri. But I haven't found, anywhere, a discussion of the affect of Siri on battery drain. Before I bother with an experiment, may I find, read, and benefit from the experiences of others in such a pursuit? Does Siri exact a heavy toll on the iPhone battery?
I have an iPhone 4 running iOS5.The keyboard has completely disappeared in every application, messages, Whatsapp, Mail, Safari - everything, even the search page. The number keypad appears when prompted for the passcode but I simply can't type anything in any application that requires the written word. I've restored twice to no avail, reset keyboard dictionary and all settings for keyboard appear fine - still no keyboard. Can anyone please help? I can't find this issue on any of the forums! Thanks.
The iOS 5 dictionary is great to look up words from Safari. But I was wondering if it is possible to access the dictionary directly to look up words, like the dictionary in Mac OS X. Any pointers? Thanks!
I had got the dictionary.com app from the app store, and had noticed that it had ads. Now, although unlikely, it struck my interest to as if these links could have the potential to be malicious. In which instance I have posed the question, "Are iphones succeptable to viruses?". This has come from knowledge that other smart phones are prone to such problems. Please and thank you.
I was exploring out my iPhone3g and i came a crossed the keyboard languages. When i went in, I was looking at it and had added some different languages for the fun of it. When i went back to try and take them off, it wouldnt let me. Now.. Ive already gone through the whole.. settings>general>international>keyboard and looked to see if i have a auto-correction off or a disabler to turn off theses unnecessary languages, but Im not given that option. Ive even tired to go through and reset my keyboard dictionary and see if that would do it but it still does nothing. Is there any way i can disable theses languages that i have added onto my iPhone3g? Its becoming very very frustrating to try and text on my iPhone and hitting the globe button and making it go to a different language!! Please someone help me out! Its driving me insane! iPhone OS 3.0
I am not sure if the Apple Development Team monitors these forums or not but I have a suggestion.Currently, there is a default dictionary that corrects words based on an algorithm of matching words to letters being typed and mistyped based on fat finger syndrome or the disadvantages of not having a keyboard you can feel the keys to.I myself have been using Nokia and Palm-based phones for quite some time (I excluded my experiences with Windows phones on purpose). There are pros and cons with those devices but I absolutely love the way Nokia has a priority system on suggestions based on the preceding word(s) as well as commonly used words. Palm just has a great keyboard that rarely causes you to mistype words. So I would like to suggest two things;1. Apple lock the default dictionary by default and if there is a word that a user types that does not spell correctly, highlight it and allow a user to add it to the dictionary manually. This suggestion may have been offered before in another post but for completeness, Ive added my support for it here. This fixes the annoying, added the wrongly spelt word into a dictionary that should grow and learn...not get reset every now and then.2. Apple looks at revamping the suggestions of the auto corrections algorithm and start to see how Nokia has done it, based on what was typed previously and perhaps even look at the sentence structure to determine what words fit next (nouns, verbs, pronouns, etc)I think an Apple iPhone experience is good but not great in the text entry/editing department and I hope Apple invests some time to give focus to one of the primary input devices of this generation besides touch - the keyboard. If this post doesnt belong, please advise.Thanks. Hi,I have a UK iPhone that I would like to keep with the region settings but Id like to change the spelling dictionary to US english. Is this possible?
I am now on my second iPhone 4, the first one had battery issues it was lasting less than 6 hours on a full charge. The replacement battery is fine but the phone is driving me demented. It is constantly crashing at least 5 times a day, any one else have this issue. There is no one reason for it to crash, everything has caused it at one time or another. This one will be going back as well. Also I am unable to install a Free dictionary App (dictionary.com. I get this message:The App dictionary was not installed on my iPhone because its resources have been modified. Acer iOS 4
This just started happening since I switched to an iPhone 4. Before, I was able to active the custom user dictionary on my 3GS on iOS 4 and was successfully able to add my own words to the dictionary. Now, however, when I go to:Settings>General>Keyboard>Edit User dictionary>It lists no words in the user dictionary and the + button is missing. So I can no longer add my own words to the dictionary. It makes no difference if Ive added Chinese Pinyin or Japanese Ten Key. I can see my custom dictionary. But, its blank. And Im unable to add my own words to it.I suspect its because I had words in the dictionary before on my 3GS and did a restore from that backup. Is anyone else having this problem? And if youve fixed it, how? iPhone 4 iOS 4
My phone has picked up the terrible habit of autocorrecting to Thr instead of the. How can I purge Thr from the dictionary, short of restoring fresh? iOS 4

I just noticed when I go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Edit User dictionary, the + button that was in the top right corner is now gone. I know I have loaded words there in the past but it now displays No Words.(FYI, i m using 4 keyboards: english, chinese traditional - handwriting, emoji, japanese - romaji) iPhone 4 iOS 4

I thought I would give my 2 cents on my iphone 3gs that I have owned for about 4 months now. As a former loyal Palm smart phone user (originally Palm pilots then 750 and then pro) I decided to take the plunge and get an iphone after many people were raving about it. I have to say that in every respect it is the best PDA/phone I have ever had. It’s fair to say I am a convert or as my wife says “an addict.” I explain that it’s better to be a phone addict than addicted to drugs, alcohol, or gambling...but that doesn’t wash.I am big user of the following - email, calendar, contacts, notes, internet, camera, google maps as a GPS (although it has its limitations compared to say a Tom Tom), weather, ipod, calculator and phone. A few apps like banking, twitter, facebook, youtube, etc and games for my 2 year old. So overall I am a convert. Basically my whole life is on this thing. I sync my phone through Outlook on my desktop most days which works well. I have even got use to the screen keyboard and predictive dictionary. Previously when I went away I would take a Palm phone, Ipod, Tom Tom GPS and Camera. This can all be converged to one now although a dedicated camera is still needed for better snaps.I have a few small issues I have discovered that need improvements1 I can’t believe they developed the phone without Tasks. I am a big Tasks user. I have 120 odd tasks with many re-occurring monthly, quarterly, biannually and annually. I know one can run them through notes or calendar however I never found that very useful or practical. That aside after about three weeks searching I found a very good tasks app (the app I use the most) It’s called Todo and it syncs nicely with a website tasks program called Toodledo. Highly recommended for anyone missing that function. It doesn’t run through Outlook but instead “through the clouds” is how its described. In any event it fixed my one big issue. It cost about $10.2 The battery life for a high end user is a bit light on. I understand this has been improved with the latest 4 version. 3 A small obscure problem – it would be nice to be able to default the alerts to 30 mins, 15 mins whatever. Currently one has to put in alerts manually as the phone default is “no alert” and this can’t be changed as far as I am aware??? It can be done on outlook which then works if you sync with the phone however not if you put the alert in through the phone directly which I do most of the time as I like the mobility of doing it. I also find the alert reminder for calendar (when one does it manually) a bit light on. 4 I am surprised I can’t save documents to a separate location. If someone sends me an email with an attachment that I would like to keep on my phone to refer to now and then or forward on when applicable then I should be able to cleanly save that file in a document location within the phone. I am sure there is an app that allows one to do this...just haven’t found it any advice appreciated.Items 1, 3 and 4 were all able to be done on the Palm however in 100s of other areas this phone is far superior to the Palm. I would hope future iphone’s allow points 1, 3 and 4 to be done. 3gs
I have the iPhone 4. I was wondering if its possible to enter/store a word into the dictionary, so that the next time I write it, it will not be underlined in red.Ive read the post that mentions about opening Safari and then a new browser and entering the word, but it doesnt work for me.Thanks in advance. Windows Vista iPhone 4 16 GB
Well I took the plunge Thursday fortnight ago (9th Sept.) and walked into the local O2 in Lisburn and bought the phone with an 18 (£30) month contract and initial outlay of £229; overall it will be approximately £769 or $1,206. Needless to say I expected the phone to rival the sculpture of David by Michelangelo for awe and the functionality of the VCR and its necessity during its era. The former quality I was not disappointed in however given the price I thought or rather expected that it would have done everything my old Nokia 6300 did, the same as any other smartphone on the market, and more to distinguish it from its rivals as a brand name that has substance and more to equal its brand. In my old Nokia 6300 for instance I could write texts prescriptively (I know it suggests words in iPhone but how do you add to the dictionary?), use emoticons, and use accented characters – maybe this is there but I have yet to find it. Can anyone provide guidance?Bluetooth data between other smart phones or mobiles – can this be done for my friends are unwilling or unable to buy the iPhone due to economic reasons etc.? Overall I cannot blame Apple for its marketing, after all that’s what a company exists for; to make money and its product is good but having bought the iPhone 4 and the iCase that will no doubt cure it of the ills that it has/n’t got I still get that empty feeling as if I am waiting for something special to happen. Hi all, quite simply when typing me in a text the dictionary suggests/auto-corrects with mr. This only happens in lower-case, unless typing Me at the start of a sentence/text/paragraph etc. Mid sentence Me is acceptable and no suggestions are offered.Ive noticed this since the introduction of OS4 and have encountered it many times, cancelled it many times, forgot to cancel and gone back and deleted it many times.Ive not attempted to reset the dictionary, from memory I doubt Ive typed mr more than 2 or 3 times since owning the phone. So a small simple problem probably overlooked.Cheers,Martyn iPhone 3G iOS 4 latest update, factory refurbished model
When i type kev i want to write kev - not keVWhen i type hun i want to write hun - not HunWhen i type i i want to write i - not IHow am i able to stop my iphone from auto-correcting these words (and others)?Without having to turn the full auto-correction feature off as I often mis-spell words and it is very useful for catching my mistakes. As you can see these words are not misspelt in the true sense of the word, it is just that the iphone always tries to add a capitol in where i would rather have lowercase. Turning auto-capitalization off only turns off the capitalization of words that begin sentences and not these words or names.kev is the abbreviation of kevin - i dont want to always have to tap the cancel prompt for keV every time i want to say that name.hun is the abbreviation of hunny / honey - but the iphone seems to think that hun deserves a capitol H even when it is not at the start of a sentence. I would like to type a lowercase i - as i think the the uppercase I looks too much like a 1.Thanks,Fraser.Message was edited by: thekilikabeast iphone 4 iOS 4
Does any know if you can edit the custom dictionary on the iphone4? I remember seeing the option come up when I was doing something (probably adding the emoji keyboard) but cant find it again? I know iPhone is supposed to learn as you go along but my phone is defaulting the word no to be no which is rather annoying!PS Have searched this forum but couldnt find anything. Thanks iphone iPhone OS 3.0

I have an iPhone 3GS with IOS4. My husbands name is Kevin but I always call him Kev for short. Autocorrect constantly changes this to keV. I have tried about 50 times in a row to hit the x to help it to learn thats not what I want, but it wont change. I have also gone in and reset my dictionary, as well as going to Safari, typing Kev in the Google search box, and tapping the x there as well. None of these things have worked. Any other suggestions?
I havent had any problems with my iPhone 4 knock on wood, but somehow I guess I missed typed me too many times? Because now any time I type me it adds a after the e. Is there anyway to delete that out of the phone dictionary? Its so annoying! iPhone 4 iOS 4 iPhone 4 auto correcting words
am extremely disappointed about the performance of my iphone 3G since I have updated to OS4. As a loyal customer and brand ambassador I expect more! I have convinced by wife, my parents, brother, sister, boss and countless friends to own an iPhone and was even tempted brave the elements and get in line to get the iPhone 4 in its launch here in Australia. I am now re-considering my next purchase.....My confidence in Apples pursuit for a quality execution has been shaken due to this dodgy upgrade. Using my iPhone was always a pleasant and enjoyable experience but now it is just very frustrated. I have to wait intolerable amounts of time for simple functionality like SMS!!If you havent upgraded to OS4 DONT! Unless I am plesantly surprised by apple in near future I will feel no option but to express by disapointement in the Apple brand publically and persuade other buyers to go else where. 3G iOS 4
Hi all. When im typing a SMS on my iPhone 3g S (currently running iOS4), and i type in the word me, it automatically changes it to mr. I have tried a whole lot of solutions; resetting the keyboard dictionary, typing the word me into a whole host of other applications, cancelling the correction in the SMS whenever i see it, and all of which havent worked.Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem, and if there are any soltuions available. Thank you in advance.Message was edited by: FlexedCookie iPhone 3gs iOS 4
Autocorrect is potentially very useful, but it keeps throwing up mistakes and pointless alternatives. Is there any way to edit this list?FOR EXAMPLE: Whenever I type the word word, iphone throws up Word - complete with unwanted single-quote and capital W - and if I dont spot it in time, it inserts it. Another mistake is when it corrects me to mr, despite the fact that I dont normally use mr. Is there any way to remove unwanted words in the autocorrect dictionary? Tapping the unwanted word - with its little x at the end - doesnt delete the word from its use the next time. Furthermore, is there a way of ADDING a word that I know Im going to need in the future? (Such as a friends name) iPhone 3GS iOS 4 32g

Is it just me or has the iPhone recently been autocorrecting simple words into proper names? For example: when I accidentally type luke (meaning to type like) my phone now autocorrects it to a proper Luke, instead of correcting it to like. I dont know any Lukes so Im not really sure why its autocorrecting to that. Also, Ive noticed that since I updated my phone to the 4.0 update, it no longer corrects the way it used to. It autocorrects misspelled words to words that arent even real words. Also, some words it doesnt even attempt to correct at all. And its much harder to manipulate the dictionary. This is all very frustrating! Any suggestions? iPhone 3GS iOS 4
I know this is probably an A.T. & T. question, but I want to throw it out here as well to see if anyone has attempted this and what their experiences were.My wife and I currently have the iPhone 3G. We are planning on upgrading to the iPhone 4, probably in July. Our children have old POS phones without any data plan - just voice and text. The sons phone (Motorola) has very poor quality and it sounds like he is talking underwater. The daughters phone (pantech Duo) is temperamental at best. It shuts off by itself or the screen goes technicolor and she cant see the screen. Our son is currently in the Delayed Enlistment Program, due to ship out sometime within the next six months. Our Daughter will be signing up for the Delayed Enlistment Program next month and will ship out about this time next year. I dont want to replace their phones and get locked into another two year contract when they will be out of the house long before that two years is up. I dont want them to sign up for their own contracts right now because they have no idea where they will end up. If they end up somewhere overseas, the A.T. & T. contract will be worthless to them. What I would like to do is when we upgrade our phones to the iPhone 4, give them the iPhone 3G and just let them use it as a phone (and iPod). We already tested their sim in it and it works. If they attempt to go somewhere (data-wise) it comes up and says a data plan is not approved for this account (Im paraphrasing). If they need a data connection, it works fine when it is on WiFi. My concern is this: Can A.T. & T. tell what kind of device is on a certain sim? And if they see it is an iPhone, even if the data apps are not being used, can they force the data plan on to my bill? If they can, and they do, would that extend the contract on either of the kids numbers? I would like to be able to help out my kids in the most economical way and without extending a contract since they will be on their own before it is too far into it. My only other option is finding a decent used phone on craigslist, but that is dumb if I have two perfectly good iPhones they can use. Has anyone ever tried this and what was the outcome? Thanks Jim Dell Windows 7
Is Apple ever going to develope an update which provides an in email true dictionary based spell check like Blackberry? iPhone is the most advanced phone in the world but lacks the ability to spell check. On every cell phone I have in the family, when I send a text message with NO SERVICE available, the phones will AUTOMATICALLY send the text once a signal is picked up. Our home gets no full cellular reception, except by a window with ONE bar. So we text at times while on the couch, place the phone by the window on the back of the couch, and our texting works as described above.Ok, I just got a new iPhone 16GB 3Gs. What it poorly does, is it totally fails to send the text. You have to WAIT while a signal is obtained, click the RED EXCLAMATION MARK CIRCLE, and then manually click TRY AGAIN.Is there a way to set it to automatically keep trying to send the text? If not, the phone definitely needs an update fix.The other phones that I have, which do it automatically, are a Blackberry 8310, Samsung Solstice, Sony Walkman 580i, pantech Matrix, Motorola Razor. So I see no reason why the iPhone shouldnt be able to do it also. iPhone 16GB 3Gs iPhone OS 3.1.3 Need to check firmware, so nut sure what version yet
