hello,i have an iPhone 4, 32 gb, and i want to use it in Romania,he use the softbank (japan) and i want to know if i can use this device in my country

Why it factory unlocking prohibited in japan iPhone 4

My wife and I are using an IPhone 4. I'm still using my Iphone here in Japan but my wife who already returned to our country cannot use her IPhone anymore because it is carrier locked here. I called our service provider softbank and they told me " No Sir We can't help you.". I asked them why and they just told " We don't know Sir. "                                  I really like Apple gadgets and I still want to use it even after I returned to my country. But with this carrier locked here in Japan, how can I use my Iphone in my home town? Take a note that we own that IPhone, we paid and finished our contract with our provider. Don't we deserve to use our own Iphone with our desired carrier in our country?

i have iphone 4s locked on orange uk i use officialiphoneunlock.co.uk after 3 month wait and i Paid 200 This was their response

The order you placed with ourselves has come back from our supplier as rejected, because you gave the incorrect network. We still had to pay the administration cost of this unlock however, so we are unable to refund you.Your handset is actually locked to Vodafone EgyptAs a goodwill gesture, we would be willing to unlock this for a low amount. Please see our pricelist page to see if we can unlock this network, and then get in touch, and we will inform you of the additional amount.  what i do now ?

iPhone 4 ear speaker not working after 2 restores and cleaning headphone socket.

Hi, I know this problem is not uncommon, but here goes... I have an iPhone 4 which was running iOS 5.1.1 a few days ago when the ear speaker stopped working.  I cant hear the other person when I make or recieve a call, but nothing else is wrong with the phone.  It is 18 months old. I've searched the discussions and seen some of the suggestions.  I tried cleaning out the headphone socket, with no luck.  I then tried a full restore and update to iOS 6.  This appeared to have worked.  I tried 2 calls and I could hear the other person.  I then left the phone alone for a couple of hours and when I tried it again, it had stopped working again. I have since done another full restore but the speaker is still not working at all.  The fact that it worked after the first restore suggests it's something simple or software related but I have no idea what else to try other than getting it repaired in a shop.  The problem is I am in Japan where my network (softbank) and an independent repair shop have both quoted me the equivalent of $176 / £110 to fix it. Does anyone know anything else I can try before I give in and end up shelling out this ridiculous cost for something that is probably a 20 minute fix? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

iPhone 4S user in Japan. App store won t load only white screen. Help

I am living in Japan and have an iPhone 4S through softbank.  Yesterday, the app store on my phone quit loading.  When I open the app store the top bar shows up and the bottom shows up (featured, charts, genius, search, updates) but the middle is only a white screen.  The exception is Genius.  When I click on that, then results do show up.  But if I click on Featured, Charts or Search, the middle just stays a blank, white screen.  There are some apps I would like to purchase, but since I can't get any search results I can't get them.  I've turned my phone off several times, logged out of the app store and back in a couple times.  None of that has worked.  Internet works fine.  I am WiFi and 3G and have unlimited data. Any tips?

Will an Unlocked CDMA IP5 work with LTE on softbank iPhone 5

So, I just ask, please read the question before posting a link/quote with no additional clarification, please. From the charts, it looks like the CDMA iPhone 5 supports the frequencies softbank uses for its LTE.  Quoted from http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html "CDMA model A1429*: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)GSM model A1429*: UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5)" To me they look identical excep the CDMA A1429 model is even *more* compatible than the GSM A1429 with differing LTE bands.  If I missed something, please clarify as I am honestly a bit confused (and it is entirely possible I missed something simple).

Post contract unlocking iPhone 4

I purchased iPhone 4 from Japan during my deputation from my office and was expecting 1 year deputation. but due to some technical reasons my visit was cut short. so i Payed softbank(japanese carrier) full contract cancellation ammount and completed all legal formalities required. now when i shifted to india and inserted vodafone sim i figured that it's carrier locked.  Now the point is I paid for the device and the penalty for contract cancellation to the carrier, Now what happens to the device? I haven't found any help via internet. can an apple official shed some light on to this case? i am willing to scan and upload all documents if required. Warm regards Ashu

I cannot restore my Iphone 4S 5.0.1

I am in desperate need of help. This is my situation: I recently bought an iphone 4s from Canada unlocked and brough it over to Japan and it is currently on the softbank mobile provider network.  I have been playing around on my iphone 4s and decided I wanted to start fresh so I tried to restore my iphone 4s through itunes. When I clicked on the restore button, the error 1600 would show up and I would be unable to continue.  So I decided to try and put my phone into recovery mode (picture with the USB asking me to plug into iTunes) and tried to restore through that...That brought me error 21. Next I decided to try DFU mode and restore, that brought me back to error 1600. So Currently my phone is completely unusable and stuck between these two errors. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thank you

verizon 4s gsm capability

So I've got a question for everyone out there.  Not sure if anyone is going to have the answer.  I'm stationed in Okinawa, Japan currently and have cell service over here.  My provider is softbank (GSM) over here.  However I do maintain a Verizon account for when I travel back to the states which is fairly often and I'm coming due for an upgrade shortly.  I know that the 4s is CDMA/GSM capable but is the Verizon phone's GSM function locked to Verizon/Vodaphone?  I'd like to be able to use the same phone for travel and for home.  I'm still going to be stationed here in Japan for another year so if I can upgrade my Verizon phone and use it here I will but I'm not going to spend the money if I can't.  I'll just wait to move back.  Then the 5 will probably be out.

Installed iOS 5.0.1 now WiFi won't connect iPhone 4

Downloaded iOS 5.0.1 Update with no issues until the iPhone 4 restarted. Now I can't connect to my WiFi network and it won't discover networks close to me. I have 4 networks with in my system and they won't even show up when I toggle the On/Off Wi-Fi. This is a major issues for me as I use my wireless network to get all my downloads from. This is an issues with both of my US iPhone 4's and my Japanese softbank iPhone 4 as well. My WiFi iPad had no issues after the update.  Any body else haveing this issue, and if so does anybody have a fix? I have tried the Sleep "Power Off", Restart with Sleep and Home, I also tried the Reset Network Settings and none of these have worked so far. I have not tried the Restore off of iTunes as of yet as I wan't to avoid this if at all possible. It looks like this might be my only other option.

Hello everyone, I am planning to purchase an iphone 4s factory unlocked in Canada (Where i live) however I currently reside in Japan for work and will be here for a while. I would like to know, if I purchase a factory unlocked iphone 4s from an apple store is it permanently unlocked so I can use it on softbank (Japan service provider) and after I return to Canada, I can use it on Fido/Rogers/Telus?  Thank you

Buying Iphone 4 from softbank

So am thinking about getting a iphone 4 from japan I will be staying here for a year so I need a phone. I know that some phones are like this: you buy it in a country (like japan) and its locked to that countrys phone carrier(softbank, but if you take the phone out of the country then you can use any sim card.Is this true with japans iphones? In short I want to use the iphone when I get back to sweden. And for the record I think its lame that I cant call apple or send a mail to them asking this.I hope someone have a answer for this becuse its the one thing that will make me buy a iphone. No point in buying one if I cant use it in sweden exept if I jailbreak it and I dont want to go that low. Thanks for your helpKind regards Robin Nordlander

Black spotting and scratches on aluminum iPhone 4

When I went to pick up my reserved iPhone 4 yesterday, the aluminum band that surrounds the phone had a black spot, similar to the spots which start appearing on aluminum MacBook Pros. There were also some small scratches on the aluminum. This is right out of the box.Do other people have black spotting or scratches on the aluminum fresh out of the box?I refused to take it. And surprisingly softbank (the iPhone distributor here in Japan) wouldnt open another to see if it had the same problem. So I was forced to cancel my order after waiting 2 weeks for it.What do other peoples iPhone 4s look like? Are there spots or scratches on the aluminum right out of the unsealed box? Thanks, doug iMac 21.5", MBP C2D 17", PBG4 17" Mac OS X (10.6.4) 4 GB RAM, 3GB RAM and 1 GB RAM

Incomming calls go directly to voice mail iPhone

I have a new iPhone I purchased yesterday from softbank Telephone Company at Yokota Air Force base. I am traveling today and need to change my iPhone to allow incomming calls to ring in so I can answer them instead to going straight to voice mail. Help please. I am on a time share computer at a hotel right now. Please address your answer to my hotmail address. Thank you.Don Nielsen

MMS issue How MMS really work iPhone

Hi all,I have a Hong Kong 3GS of which I use in Japan softbank. My issue is that my friends cannot MMS me to my phone number (MMS just disappears, they think they sent it successfully, I dont receive anything). However if they MMS me to my @softbank.ne.jp address, I can receive it.So it appears to be a weird Phone Number -> e-mail translation that seems to be a problem. Ive logged into the My softbank page and it has my phone number and my @softbank.ne.jp correct. As such Ive got 2 questions :-1) Anyone else experienced my particular issue, and if fixed, how was it done?2) In general, how does MMS work? Is the Phone Number -> e-mail conversion done something in the softbank server side? MBP Mac OS X (10.5.7)

ERROR Could not activate cellular data network PDP authentication failure iPhone 3G

I have an iPhone 3g that was given to me by a friend a couple months ago. Before I got the phone i was on a plan with softbank in japan with another cell phone. When i got the iphone i unlocked it so that i could use my old sim card with the iphone. everything worked out fine, i was unable to use the internet via 3g since it wasnt on my plan but i could text and make calls with no problem.Everything was working fine until yesterday when i started getting this error message: Could not activate cellular data network: PDP authentication failureonce this happened i could no longer text or make calls. my iphone recognizes the sim card, shows one bar of signal, the network, and the 3g symbol. i have also rebooted, restored, reset network settings, and talked with softbank; all had no help.i have no idea how to fix it, any suggestions would be awesome.thanks. No Wi-FI-All Gray No address iPhone 3G

I have no Wi-Fi on my iPhone at the moment. I have followed the suggested 3 step approach to resolving this problem but to no avail. Before I go into the store where I bought it (in Japan), can anyone tell me what has happened to my phone? Is this a software, an up-date, or broken phone problem? As this will just be my local softbank store, I need to get as much information as possible before I describe the problem to the part-timer working behind the counter. I think I broke my iPhone with water damage-suggestions 3G

I dropped my iPhone in water while washing dishes before. Completely submerged in a pot for a few seconds. (agh!) And with a bright LED light I can see the red water damage sensor just above the dock connector - not at the bottom of the headphone jack though.(sigh)And now the speaker isnt working with the iPod app, and Im getting a this accessory is not made to work with iPhone message. I looked online and some people say the speaker could dry out after a 1/2 hr or so and start working again. But even if it does, the warranty is now void. The other iPhone features so far seem to be working fine.Whats curious though is that voicemail playback is working both normally (when holding the phone up to my ears) and via speaker, through the speakers at the bottom. So why wont iPod play music through the speakers? Whats the difference?I called softbank (this is Japan) and if I pay an extra approximately $35/month for the next 16 months to pay off the balance on this phone (the system here is different from the U.S. - there is no money put up to start with) I can switch to an iPhone 3GS and 16 months from now the monthly payment will change to about $13/month.I dont see I have a choice if the speaker doesnt work. The devices are heavily subsidized if you keep the phone throughout the contract. But once out of contract (the contract would switch to the new phone) the monthly pay-per-month discount disappears and you end up with a ridiculously high list price to pay off.Plus they are clever in that even though I got my phone almost a year ago on 2/1 they dont actually start billing for the phone itself until like two months later, so its not even 1/2 paid for yet.All in all a mess.I still dont understand how it fell out of my shirt pocket!(sigh)Any thoughts on the speaker issue?doug MBP C2D 17" Mac OS X (10.6.2) 3.0 GB RAM

japanese iPhone in Germany 3G

Hey there!I bought this year an iPhone in Japan, through SoftBankwith a contract. A few weeks ago I moved back to Germanyand tried using a prepaid-card, which didnt work, becausetheres a SIM-Lock blocking it.One question is, in Germany, usually when you buy a phoneand pay it off immidiately, it is unlocked. Isnt it everywherelike that? And my second question is, is apple able to do something for me?I called a few days ago in the US, to figure out what I could do,because I cant use it at all right now.She told me, I would have to call my old provider, which is softbank,to talk to them. Well, when we bought the phones, I already asked, how it would work, if I wanna use it in Germany and she said, that unlocking the phone is illegal at all in Japan.I know, its not legal to unlock it, but in Germany when you buy a phone with a conract, it is unlocked and when you buy pre-paid,it is locked. What can I do? It is a half year old, am I gonna throw itaway now? 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2

softbank Japan iPhone Google map user-Help please 3G

Hello. I live in Japan and am on softbank. I have a 3G iPhone, the mapping on which worked fine until the OS 3.0 update. It was really accurate - very useful for walking and navigating around Japans crowded cities!Since June (OS 3.0 update) it has been kms or tens of meters inaccurate - in other words, virtually useless. Anyone having the same problem here in Japan - obviously I have researched this topic thoroughly already and asked the Geniuses, with no solution. Please help. Broken IPHONE 3G

the bottom piece of my iphone appears to be broken. It will not charge on any usb cable, only with my portable battery pack, that plugs directly into the bottom of my Iphone. Also, it will only charge when the power is turned off. I have to charge my iphone for 8 hours to get 30 minutes of usage. Is there any warranty or anything I can do to fix this problem? i know its not a software problem, and i know its not the cables I am using. Any help will be greatly appreciated. BTW, I am stationed in Yokosuka Japan, so I am not on contract with AT&T I am with a Japanese company, softbank. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Piece of trash Windows XP

mail-daemon error for MMS I havent send iPhone

Hi !Since this morning I received 2 return email (MMS) from different mail-daemon telling me that the email adress ****** where I sent before doesnt exist anymore etc etc...The thing is that I have no idea to who those email are and I didnt send any email(MMS)!It seems like someone is using my MMS adress to send spam email or something like that.I have a 3GS with the last OS and I am living in Japan and therefore use the carrier softbank.Anyone with the same strange behavior ?(+ I have mini crack in the top left of my phone but thats an other story...) Bluetooth doesnt support track control or voice control iPhone 3G

I have gotten my Bluetooth Sony headset (DR-BT140Q) and a set of bluetooth speakers with phone function built-in that is sold by softbank in Japan (SBS-BTSKT01/WH). To ALMOST work perfectly with my new iPhone 3GS. The biggest problem is that the skip forward and skip back function doesnt work. Also although I can get the redial last number called function to work and can have a phone call come in and the music go down, answer the call, and talk on the internal mics in each of the products, I cannot get them to allow me to do do voice control/dialing (Both external devices support A2DP, AVRCP, HSP, and HFP profiles)It would be really great if Apple supported the ability to skip or go back on tracks and use the voice control with future 3.0 upgrades.I read in the article at http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/what-to-expect-stereo-bluetooth-iphone-3g-with-iphone-os-30/ that this is just how things are at this point but it would be really great if Apple supported the ability to skip or go back on tracks and use the voice control with future 3.0 upgrades. 32GB Black iPhone OS 3.0 Carrier is softbank in Japan

SMS push email wi-fi and 3G iPhone

SMS is working under iPhone OS 3.0 here in Japan nowIf messages are sent by phone number they only work in-carrier. But softbank (the iPhone carrier in Japan) also provides a free @softbank.ne.jp email address for SMS that works between carriers and also between regular PC email. And SMS is included in the basic contract here.But... (is this the same in the U.S.?) SMS only works on 3G, not when wi-fi is on.So if you have wi-fi turned on your SMS messages simply dont arrive. The messages stay at the server though and when you are in 3G you can use an app that softbank provides that lets you check your SMS messages.I did a test before by (1) turning off wi-fi and (2) sending myself an SMS message from my Mac. Sure enough it arrived, with a nice push notification. But when I turned wi-fi on and tried again nothing arrived. If I disable wi-fi and use the check for new messages app that softbank provides they do arrive then.I work at home, and am on wi-fi almost all the time, so it is fairly useless as is.Is this the way SMS works in the U.S. too?Another related question - when the iPhone goes to sleep is there a time-out after which the wi-fi also goes to sleep? It seems Ive received MMS messages before even when in my house. Its all sort of confusing to me.In the meantime, Yahoo push email works just fine whether on wi-fi or not. So its hard to understand the purpose of MMS.doug MBP C2D 17" Mac OS X (10.5) 3.0 GB RAM

Rogers iPhone with softbank S

I know the iPhone is locked down. I cant just plunk in a SIM card from another carrier (not that Canada HAS another GSM-based carrier, although apparently Telus is testing GSM).Anyways, I just want a bit confirmation... is it not possible to use a SIM card from another carrier that DOES carry the iPhone? For example, would I be able to use my Canadian Rogers iPhone with an AT&T or Japanese softbank SIM card?Im traveling to Japan in July and I imagine getting a pay-as-you go account would be a **** of a lot cheaper than the roaming charges Rogers would charge me.A pipe dream? Probably. Just thought Id ask anyways. MacBook Pro 15" (2,2) Mac OS X (10.5.7) 2.33GHz, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD ~~ iPhone 3G 16GB ~~ 5th-gen iPod 30GB

mic doesn t work when plug in aux in car iPhone 3G

When I hook my brand new iphone to my car aux line, i can hear the person, but they can`t hear me. I read similar topics in the forums. None have an answer. They all end up either 1) buy an adapter for aux cable with a build in mic.or2) get very lucky!! and talk while iphone is hooked up to your car.It worked before, so I know this is possible. So far is a hit and miss, First time I tried it work perfect! Second call listener couldn`t hear anything. Third call it worked again! Perfect, as if I had bluetooth in my car (of course I don`t, that is why I need this to work). Then the fourth time around, it didn`t work at all. I can hear them fine from my car speakers, but they can`t hear me at all. Like zero! Not even static or anything...more like I`m muted (of course I checked `mute` is not ON)...So my guess is, this is a glitch or something is wrong with the OS. I really doupt is hardware, because everything else works fine... and also the fact that this phone is only a week old (just bought it from a softbank store in Japan). Any help please!!!I don`t want to end up paying for more adapters! Any advice. Thanks in advance. iphone 3g iPhone OS 3.0

Purchasing an iPhone in Japan

Ive recently been accepted to attend school in Japan for about a year (about 10 months). However, being an iPhone user since October, I have become hooked, and wont be able to live without it once I move over there. Since my current iPhone seems to have been well used (the back is cracked + ringer switch is no longer working), a new one will probably be coming in June, and I have little incentive to pay AT&Ts international rates for 10 months, I would like to be able to get one while in Japan.I have a bank account over there, and Ill be receiving a students visa soon enough; what else would I need? Can I get one at a Japanese Apple Store, or do I go to a softbank store? Ill be turning 18 the week I arrive there, but I hear that the legal age is 20 in Japan; will I need any special forms signed by my parents before leaving? Is the iPhone pricing different with softbank? Also, after my 10 month stay, Ill need to return to the US; what cancellation fees exist? Finally, what are the monthly rates for the simplest plan available (limited minutes, unlimited data, 200 texts)? iMac G5 Original Model, MacBook Pro 15" Unibody, iPhone 3G Mac OS X (10.5.6) 1.8 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HD; 2.8 Ghz, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HD; 16 GB

How do I get a phone that I can keep and move from country to country and still maintain the phone? Do I have to purchase a factory unlocked phone? How do I purchase an officially unlocked iPhone from Japan? iPhone Windows XP NA

ATT International Roaming-Warning iPhone

This may have been discussed here before, but its worth repeating: If you are a US ATT customer and you travel to a foreign country, you WILL be charged international roaming fees if your phone simply RINGS. Thats right - if you place no calls and do not answer any calls, you will be charged for 1 minute of international roaming every time your phone even rings. In my case, traveling to Japan cost me $2.29 for the privilege of having my iPhone ring each time in Tokyo.ATT says that the mere connection to my phone to make it ring is considered a roaming charge. Sorry, but to me if I dont answer the phone or talk to anyone I cannot see how this is roaming. Wow, softbank and ATT are making some nice coin for a 5 second connection with zero voice transmission!A warning - put your iPhone in Airplane Mode when you step on the plane or boat, and dont take it out of Airplane Mode until you return home, or hearing your ringtone is going to be very costly indeed. When did usage in Japan become available iPhone

I always thought I could not use my iPhone in Japan because the frequencies were different. Well, I just made a call (softbank). I seem to remember not having any service available in Japan before. What changed? MacBook Air iMac Mini iPhone3G 80GB iPod Nano Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Will Japanese softbank phone work with an ATT account in states iPhone 3G

I am a Marine stationed in Japan and purchased the Iphone 3G from the only Japanese company that sells them out here. I have no complaints about the phone, but I am concerned that once I move back to the States I will be unable to use the phone with AT&T or another cell phone company offering Iphone service. Does anyone have any information on this? Mac OS X (10.5.6)

iPhone purchased in Japan

Im considering purchasing an iPhone in Japan with softbank. Ill be using it in Japan for about a year, then returning to the U.K. Is it possible to use a SIM card with O2 (the Apple authorised network in the U.K.) in my iPhone, or would I have an expensive paperweight? 20" Aluminium iMac (Early 2008) Mac OS X (10.5.6) 4GB RAM

Going from US ATT to Japan softbank possible iPhone

I cant seem to find an answer? I want to get iPhone now from AT&T to replace my broken cell, but Ill be going to Japan later this year (and saying long enough in Japan that roaming charges would end up killing my wallet). Is it possible to take the iPhone I get in the US and have to softbank guys unlock the phone to so it will work with their service? If so, has anybody actually done it and could explain how exactly it works?(softbank is carrier that offers iPhone service in Japan.)
