I am buying an iPhone 5 direct from Apple. I'm with Three network at the minute so I asked if they could swap my sim to a micro sim. This was not a problem, but they said whatever sim I put in first it will be locked to that network. They were trying to get me to buy one from themsleves, stating it was cheaper and if it was going to be locked to them I might as well. I know know if they were tying to have one over on me to get a sale as I have never heard of this before. I assumed if it was unlocked, it would always be unlocked. Is this true? Thanks!

Chat App for iPhone 3G iOS 4.2.1
Hi I am in search of a chat app/IM App that would work with iOS 4.2.1 for iPhone 3G. Something like WhatsApp or the various IM apps such as Talk, nimbuzz, IMO etc. The issue I have is that most of these apps now only work on 4.3 or higher, and the iPhone 3G cannot be updated to 4.3. I have tried using Talk Lite with gtalk but it needs some fiddling with the google account before it works and does not have push notification. Can anyone suggest any good IM app for 4.2.1 that has push notifications, I don't mind what the service is gtalk, windows messenger/live, jabber, whatever Many thanks

Basically, i bought an second hand iphone 4s for £325, saw the ad on gumtree. anyway, met the guy who was selling it at a place where i knew there would be plenty of CCTV cameras to catch his number plate and the sale should anything go wrong. anyway, bought the phone, took it home and tried to activate it with my orange sim. the phone kept showing 1/2 bars of signal with 3G then saying please insert a compatible sim. so i phoned up apple and they told me that the phone was locked to o2 depite saying on the phone under about in settings "Orange UK 11.0". anyway, i phoned o2 and they told me that it was IMEI blocked. they told me that it was either lost/stolen. i imagine it was insurance job as they sold it in the correct box with matching imei number and serial number. I was really annoyed as you could imagine, tried contacting the seller, no response. I informed the police, giving the car reg and a description of the seller. they said they'd investigate etc. also reported the ad to gumtree. I was told my a family member, who works for the police that normally, the insurance company or the rightful owner would try to claim it as theirs and that i will lose both my £325 and my phone. What can i do? I read that apple replace imei blocked phones if they are faulty? but would the new one also be blocked? PLEASE HELP!!!!

You are not speaking to Apple here - just to other users like yourself. Before getting "ticked off" at Apple, you should do a little research first. Apple does not restrict the sale of certain apps in certain countries. The developers of the apps choose where to sell their apps. If a developer does not want to sell their app in your country (or there is some legal reason for why they can't) Apple cannot force them to. You should contact the developer of the apps you want and ask them to make them available in your country. And ask nicely - not in your "ticked off" frame of mind.

Hello, I had a upgrade of of the New 4s phone in October, after charging the unit up I found the top half of my screen was not working. So contacted Vodaphone who turns rd and tells me they dont have any in stock. They Then send me to apple who try and also find a phone and fine they also dont have any in stock but would call me when they do. Happy with this. Five weeks later i have a call saying a phone will be sent to my local agent in Leicester for them to sort this out and update and down load my phone with details and app etc.Hoping that the apps i brought would be safe as of photos.I Then drive 9 miles into city and pay 4.50 for parking to find the phone had not been sent, told to come bake this Thursday which i did. Same again, still no phone and they did not have one in stock they could just give me to replace my phone which has a yr cover with apple. I am now getting really unhappy with apple and vodaphone, I run my own company and use apple alot, but this yr the service anc customer support is really bad. I had a call back from Canada and US who really tried there best to help but cant as the UK dont work 24hr like them over there. He tried do a refund for me on the itune product i had brought as cant be used due to phone not working. I reported this to apple time and time again, and they say we get some one to call you. You did some one from across the other side of the water who really cant help. I have now contacted Trading Standards with them opening a case under the sale of goods act. Probably safe, but as you observe you are putting mechanical wear and tear on the system and the more you do that with any system the shorter the life. I don't know if this means they will last 1 year vs. 5, or 10 years instead of 20 (and if you only keep it 4 years it makes no difference). If you need to play it at that volume you might want to look into accessory speakers. You can probably even use a set of computer speakers you buy at a garage sale. They would likely sound better at the same volume.

iPhone 5 Screen Click Issue HELP ME
I recently purchased a black 32GB iPhone 5 the night the went on sale. After about an hour of using it, I started to hear this really soft clicking noise on the left corner of the phone. After listening closer, the noise got louder and then I heard this really annoying click that was driving me CRAZY! I know, some people will say "who cares it won't be perfect it is a new iPhone release there will be something wrong" But, I expect more from Apple. So, back to the phone, if I press the corner it will not click, but if I have my case on it for a long period of time and I take the case off it will start clicking again. If you do not touch it for about 30 minutes it will stop clicking. I know what you are thinking, "well duh the answer is leave the case on" Well, that isn't the best fix for the problem for two reasons.1. I switch cases A LOT, like I will have one case on for a week then put another one on, I CAN NOT STAND TO LOOK AT THE SAME CASE FOREVER2. Sometimes I don't even use the case, I like the way iPhone feels in your handSo, my question is this: Should I take the phone to the Apple store and get a new one or should I just ignore it?One last thing, If I take the phone to the Apple store will the give me a brand new phone with no accessories or give me a refurbished one?Thank You

iPhone 4S won't restore
I am wanting to sell my 4S so I'll have money when the iPhone 5 comes out so, I wanted to restore it so I could sell it through instant sale on ebay. I plugged it up, and starting restoring it. When I first plugged it up, I noticed that it kept losing connection to the computer about 2-3 times before having a steady connection. It finally stayed connected so, I started the restore. Right before it started restoring after extracting the firmware, I think I bumped it or something because it disconnected and gave me an error. So I tried it again. This time it extracted the firmware and began the restore. About half way through it, it said that it had disconnected again. The apple logo with the bar underneath it was on the screen for about 10 seconds before it went into recovery mode and was showing the connect to iTunes screen. I tried again but my phone kept shutting off when the firmware was extracting. (It wasn't losing connection because I unplugged it and tuned it on and it turned off after about 20 seconds after the connect to iTunes screen started showing.) I tried 10 times to restore and it did the same thing over and over again. So, I finally decided to try to put it into DFU mode and restore. But whenever I try to put it into DFU mode, it either shuts off before it can go into DFU sucessfully or it goes into recovery mode before DFU. And it also doesn't stay on for near enough time for it to go into DFU. When I'm trying to enter DFU, I hold down the power button for 2 seconds, then hold the power and home buttons for 10 seconds but when I'm counting it always comes back on when I hit 6 or 7 seconds. Someone please help. If I didn't explain it good enough, or you need more details, please ask. Thanks!!!
Broken iPhone 4--How Much It Worth
A friend of mine recently cracked the back glass on an iPhone 4. It worked fine, but someone else tried to replace the the back of the phone, and things got bad. We weren't able to put it back together properly, and it basically went dead. It's now missing screws and won't turn on, but I'm confident many of it's components are still functional. How much do you think it's worth? I'm checking eBay prices, etc. but I'm sure someone in this forum has a few suggestions or advice. I assume I can sell it part-by-part, or as-is -- which strategy will get me more money out of it's sale?

I see that there are iPhone transfer software programs available to buy online such as Tipard. I find that the whole iTunes thing is very confusing to do when syncing songs and other things. Hey you guys! I'm having trouble on my new iPhone 4S.Firstly, I'm having a hard time with the connection. I can't receive or make a call when i shut down my phone, but i found the solution.When i on my phone, i have to on the cellular data on my network and off it back (bacause it will charge and lowers my credit) so that i can make calls and receive it. Is that normal? Or can i use another way so that when i off and on my phone i don't have to on and off the cellular data network. Secondly, i cant receive mms messages or send them. Must i on the cellular data network to receive or send mms messages? Because, i went to the Maxis store and the sale's guy said i have to do that in order to receive and send mms messages. And if i have to on the cellular data, is there a way so that i wont lose my credit that can charged on me? Can i on wifi to have a free cellular data network? If that makes sense. I hope you guys will reply me on this because im having a hard time with my iPhone!

Hi, I have an unlocked iPhone 4S, I am connected to a network that is unable to effect a change to the Voicemail Number, i.e. the number the Voicemail button calls. How do you change this number, many have asked here and elsewhere on the internet but as yet no solution from Apple. How long is it going to take Apple to give out this information? I appreciate that Apple do not want iPhones hacked, and I do not want to hack my iPhone anyway, but I do own it and I would like to set it to work correctly and not call some other network's voicemail facility but instead call my network's voicemail facility. The only response to my old thread was this product, which works, but has too big of a plug "jacket" to fit the headphone opening in most cases. (It is also expensive for what it is.) My son is going to Amsterdam. His iPhone 4 came with a charger that states 100-240 in small print. I was in the ATT store and one guy stated that the charger will work in Amsterdam and the phone will be fine, one guy stated it will fry the phone if I do not get a converter too. I was selling my old 3g, the guy came to get it and it went straight to recovery so I tried to restore it, no go. I have tried both 4.1 and 4.2 both in recovery and DFU. I have tried using my MBP and a Windows laptop both with the newest version of iTunes and every time I am getting hit with error 40 Any help would be great because now I still have the iPhone 3g, which isnt working, lost the money to from the sale AND I am stuck using my old iPhone 2g. This past weekend Best Buy (Canada) had a sale on the Universal Play & Charger Solution for the iphone/ipod. http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/geek-squad-universal-play-charge-solution-for-ipod-car-install-kit-gsc70a-in-store-only/10131667.aspx . My car gets the device installed on January 2nd so I have some time to do some research and see if this is the right solution.Has anyone had any experience with this device yet? I have only read good things on it but yet to hear it in person. The device uses a direct FM channel. So when installing, you disconnect the antenna, plug the antenna into the device, and then plug the device into the factory stereo. The installers also installs a switch that allows you use your radio or the direct channel 87.9 for the iphone. The other positive is that it also charges the device while connected. The only thing that I can see being a problem is the fact that I am losing my hands free Blue tooth (which I have with the BB Visor; the visor picks up my voice and plays the audio through it or the radio). So for anyone who has the best buy car kit installed in their car, can you set the iphone to speaker phone and will you get the same results? Or does anyone have another device that they are using? iOS 4
