I just bought a second hand (perfect condition) iPhone 4S today, the user sold it because they had upgraded to an iPhone 5. The previous user did not restore the phone they just deleted all of their previous data (contacts, pictures, applacations, they left their 1,100 songs though), so I planned on restoring it later tonight to start fresh. I had it activated to my phone number at the Verizon store on my way to a family party and used it throughout today but put barely anything onto it knowing I would be restoring it tonight. I got home and plugged it into my laptop and went to iTunes found "Emily's iPhone" and then hit the restore button like normal, it worked perfectly fine and went the whole 14 minutes it said it had to. Then my phone went to the "connect to iTunes" screen when it was already connected. I checked to make sure everything was plugged in correctly, and it all was perfectly fine. I tried the manual reboot (holding the home and lock buttons for a few seconds) and all it does is shut off and bring me to the same "connect to iTunes screen".. someone please tell me how I can restore my phone! Thank you, Emily

A few days ago I got my iPhone unlocked from my provider (Telstra) as I am about to travel and wanted to put a country specific sim in it. Since then no non-Apple apps have worked.I have tried (many times) to :- 1. restore from a previous backup (plus multiple syncs) and using different backups2. delete an app and reinstall it3. download a new free app (and when that didn't work I deleted it and retried installing it)4. sign in and out of the app store on the iphone5. sign in and out of the app store on my iMac6. de-authorise and re-authorise my iMac7. wipe the iPhone clean and start with a fresh install8. And reset the device too many times. Nothing I have found on any site has worked. I thought the wipe the phone clean would have done it but it hasn't.I have wasted about 20 hours trying to get this thing working again. If I wasn't going on vacation tomorrow I would be at my provider getting them to fix their mess but I can't. Can anyone help? Please? iPhone 4S (Apps are active - just won't stay open)
Recently my iPhone 4 stopped accepting charge. I tried two wall chargers as well as my docking station, and none of them cause the battery to gain any charge. Thinking it was the battery (which was 2+ years old), I ordered a replacement however after installing the new battery the symptom remains, I still can't get the phone to gain any charge. Has anyone had experience with this issue, and are there other things I can try to fix this? My next attempt will likely be a fresh reinstall of the OS. -Josh
Hi guys, My first post here and was wondering what you thought of my battery usage. I'm on 2% and my usage details areUsage : 3 hours 58 minutesStandby: 13 hours 16 minutes To me this sounds very bad but wanted your opinions, I've tried fresh ios, reset setting and exhange. Can't seem to get this to last a full day? Thanks Richard
Hi, My iPhone 4 was purchased on a contract basis from Vodacom (South Africa) in August 2011, during January this year my phone kept restarting by itself. It eventually got worse that I had to use my Mophie Juicepack in order for my phone to operate, but my phone ocassionaly would startup and there would be No Service and the Wi-fi switch was grey.Doing a restart with the Power & Home button has not worked nor has a fresh new restore of iOS 6.1.3 and I have reset the phone to factory default settings including erasing all existing data & media etc. My warranty has expired thus I sent my iPhone 4 for a battery replacement from an authorised Apple agent here in South Africa.Thinking it would solve my problem...it did not. My phone still restarts by itself and occasionally does not even power ON unless I plug it in via the USB charger which doesn't help much because there would be No Service and the Wi-fi switch was grey. I have never dropped my iPhone and it has no exterior damage at all nor has it ever been Jailbroken. Please suggest any solutions, I have tried every option possible from forums etc.
To Apple support team, I bought a new iphone 5 from one of the dealers in india and on 2nd day it had a speaker problem. the apple authorised service center agreed to replace the handset and sent me a fresh piece (but unpacked). Is this the case or do i ask for a packed sealed piece which gurantees it is not someone elses repaired piece ? please confirm as i could not find this in the warranty pdf.
I tried everything to fix this issue, even a fresh restore. There is still a issue! It just drops the connection all together! Please help!
Hi I have an Iphone 4s running hot, I have followed the process's on here (backup and restore) and starting a fresh on the phone and still have the same issue. I have taken it to a local mobile phone dealer who has changed my battery and it still has the same issue, my battery is running hot like an application is constantly running. I am now booked into the Apple store next week Monday. I wanted to know, will this invalidate my warranty if I tell them I have changed the battery as I assumed it was a battery issue. It was changed by an approved phone dealership who is an accredited company for Nokia and Samsung and also do Iphone repairs/replacement. I don't want to walk in there and them assuming the battery has been changed so they wont touch the phone now and say it is my fault. Thanks
is fresh installing iOS 6.1 on factory unlocked iPhone 5 will not lock the phone ?
Just wondering how wide spread the wifi issues are, because ever since my upgrade to 6.1 (which somehow corrupted my backup), I have had nothing but terrible wifi performance on my iPhone 5: terrible signal, drop outs after standby, keeps asking for security key, etc... this is really nonsense, it was perfectly fine before, and it needs to be fixed (and I've reset network, reset the router, in fact the phone is a totally fresh install due to the 6.1 mess).Anyway, if anyone has any info I'd love to hear it.Thanks
I had forgotten my passcode long back and I did fresh refresh to enable my iPhone. Now I can see "profile setting" between Accessibility & Reset Optings in "Settings>General" and Profile name given is "informate". Its showing it "Verified" and received on 30-Jun-2012 and expires on 26-Jun-2013. What does it mean? Does this profile drain battery. Cause after that my battery drainange is fast. Does removing that profile cause any damage? Please do reply if anyone have any idea/knowledge about it.Now-a-days i m facing battery drainage problem, phone gets too hot and also in stand-by 2% batterly power loss in first hours, then it increases. If any application is used, its too fast. Can"t even use the phone for 1 whole day. Thanks in advance.
Hi All, I have just received my iPhone 5 upgrade today... I currently have the iPhone 4 and have used the iCloud to backup my device, i also ran a local backup to my laptop for piece of mind. My question is:When the iPhone 5 launches its setup wizard and I select the restore using iCloud option, can I stop the Apps from syncing? I want to effectivly have a fresh iPhone with no apps but just copy over all my contacts, emails ect. I have gone into the Settings -> iCloud and a left everything on the inital screen onI then went to Storage & Backup -> Manage Storage -> My Device and turned off varuous Apps e.g. games I never play. Will this stop them from migrating to my new iPhone 5?Do I need to delete the Apps from iTunes as well?? Or is it better to clean up my iPhone 4 and delete any apps, run an iCloud backup and then just restore onto the iPhone 5? Thanks:-) I have read these KBs:http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ios.html Message was edited by: mehtaman
I just had to swap my iphone 5 for a fresh handset, then was prompted to update my software, and now my hotspot has gone missing! I have tried to reset the network/system settings, so where has it gone??
Hi, I have recently updated to iOS 6.1. I am not sure if this is related, but for some reason I can't download large apps (I'm on wifi and the connection is super fast). At first I was trying to update 2 games I have on my iPhone 5, and it didn't download. I thought this was a result of me getting in and out of range. Anyway, I have deleted those 2 apps, hard reseted the device, and tried to download a fresh copy. It still doesn't work. I have even had my network settings reseted to no avail.Smaller apps usually updates fine, even though the app store seems a but slugish in general. Any ideas?
Brand new iphone5 32g fresh out of the box and it won't turn on, at all. I've left it to charge all day and its still as dead as a dodo! Any advice appreciated please.
I want to delete everything on my phone and start fresh but dont want to update my phone
Help. I updated the new ios 6.0.2 and now the phone is dead. I tried rebooting several times (both using backup and starting fresh), update/connect using 3 different itunes in 3 different MACs..still no use. I'm stuck in this loop of recovery mode! HELP!!! Apple can you help me out here!
So here's the sticky. My friends from the Middle East bought me an iPhone 3G. They had taken the SIM out of it. I connected it to my computer, and backed up all the photos. It was running 4.2.1 (the final version of iOS for 3G). I then downloaded 4.2.1 again from getiOS.net, hoping to rejuvenate the bogged down iPhone with a fresh restore. I connected it to iTunes, selected my downloaded iOS file, and proceeded with the restore. So it extracts the software fine, the progress bar also shows the restoration and verification going fine, but then when the iPhone reboots it shows a screen which sort of looks like the iTunes recovery mode screen (the wire connected with the iTunes icon) but it also has a popup saying "NO SIM CARD INSTALLED", and on my computer iTunes says, "We are unable to continue with your activation at this time. Please try again later." So where's my iOS gone?! What happened to my phone? How do I get it back to normal? Someone suggested putting the phone in actual recovery mode by holding down the home button and connecting it to the computer with iTunes on, but it just showed the restore option again and when I tried the restore again, the same problem happened. Please think of a solution guys. Is it because there is no SIM inside? Or maybe it's from a different region? Or what?
I have an old iPhone 3G. I wiped all info out of it. Started fresh and wanted to give to friend as iPod Touch. Configed it so it works wirelessly on home network. Cannot load Facebook App because it states that 4.2.1 software is the most current and I KNOW that is wrong. How can I update the IOS ? Download seperate file from somewhere and how to apply if iTunes thinks that old software is the most current? Please let me know
I wanna start fresh again so I rest my iphone. But the problem now is why is it taking so long? Its been ten whole hours! help me guys please
Is your phone/iPod jailbroken? If not, all you can do is restore. I wouldn't restore from a backup, though, start fresh. If you are jailbroken, There a couple things that could have caused it. Post here again if you are.
Hi all, Need help on a tricky issue: My iPhone 5 originally purchased from Canada - fully unlocked and has been working great with AT&T (went to their corp. store in the Bay Area and picked up a Nano SIM no question asked). I was able to roam on LTE/4G/3G as needed. I've even tried using the T-Mobile naon SIM and it roam fine on their EDGE network. Was doing family vacation at Hong Kong - ironically w/ with the help of HKG Apple Store, they helped me purchase a local CSL One2Free prepaid SIM and used it for 10 day in HKG (via 3G). Returned to US on Sunday, pop in the AT&T Nano SIM, the phone was able to connect AT&T's network - I was able to make calls and receive txt etc, but with no internet acess - as if Cellular Data part turned off. Tried Reset Network Settings. Tried, a full wipe and, and full reinstalled and can't seems to get it to work. Went to AT&T corporate store this morning and asked for fresh new Nano SIM again. They said my account and the SIM should work fine, but they gave me a new SIM anyway. Did one more soft network rest then I was back on LTE (yay). *BUT* when I go into Settings > Ceullar > Enable LTE (turning it off) I am left with no (the usual swtiching) to 4G or 3G as you would have expect. Any suggestion on what to do next would be great. LTE is "okey" on the Bay Area, but I would really like the phone to have back up acess to 4G and 3G on data as it has always been when I first purchased it. ps- obivouly Wi-Fi works.
Something that seems simple has become a crazy quest to find an answer. All that I want to know is how to (if possible) without resetting my phone completely erase data saved within an app. Not deleting from the phone, I know how to do that by long pressing the icons and tapping the x, but if you reinstall the app, it re-installs all of your old information (levels and statistics.) Is it possible to delete the app along with all saved data within the app, a fresh start as if it's the very first time you've installed and opened the app?
I bought my iphone5 last week from The Carphone Warehouse and noticed the paint had chipped on the box fresh phone. I showed the sales clerk who brought another one out that was also scratched, and then opened a third factory sealed box which was, yet again, chipped. As it was the last one in stock I had to take it. This morning my phone slipped out of my hand and after a 20 cm fall, landed on my desk and a big chunk of paint chipped off of the outer steel rim. My phone looks like it's been through the wars after owning it for less than a week! I took it to the Covent Garden Apple Store to show them and expecting another exchange, only to be told that they will not help as the paint chipping is not an official known issue. This is the worst customer service i've had with Apple, who have previously been superb whenever i've dealt with them. It's obviously a flaw and everyone will soon be having this problem, standards are definitely slipping. Not at all happy!

I have iphone 4. Last night I download IOS 6 with fresh set up. After that, today, my fist call my business aprtner called me, and I can hear your but he cant hear me. I call other business partner and the same thing happen. Need help!. I was working fine befre IOS6.
I do however want my notes from the iPhone 4 backup I have. Is it possible to either restore only portions of the data from my backup, or get at that information somehow? I know I could just restore and then delete anything I didn't want, but I've had the new phone for about a week and like the way I've set this one up. I got the phone at Best Buy and they transferred my contacts, photos and videos. I almost think I should have just not had them do that. They screwed my contacts up so badly, I'll definitely be syncing with my address book regardless of how this ends up. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Basically, a bit of back story. I had a IPhone 5, I had numerous issues such as WiFi not working, or extreme load times (some apps took 2 days to download.) My AT&T data connection consistently dropped, for no apparent reason. Another IPhone user in the house was not having issues with it, so it is likely not tower related. I also had a ghosting image when typing in the App store. Some problems, to say the least. I spoke with an Apple rep, and they set me up with a repair. I live 50 miles from the nearest physical Apple store, so I opted for the mail in option. I backed up my IPhone 5 last night to my ICloud account. After sending back the IPhone 5 today, I chose to use my old IPhone 4 that I had previous to my 5 for my temporary phone. After getting it activated, all that fun stuff, etc. I restored my IPhone backup from the cloud, specifically my IPhone 5's backup to my IPhone 4 it worked pretty well. All my settings/music/apps/etc. were restored. The issue that is arrising, as when I had the longer IPhone 5 screen, I had opted to use the extra row of apps. I now am back to the IPhone 4 without the extra row of apps, however, my restore did not auto relocate my apps (specifically folders actually, so a lot of apps) to a second or third screen, but rather has them now hidden in a non-existent extra row that would be visible on the IPhone 5. The apps are installed on the phone, as I am able to use spotlight and they do return in the search results. However.. I have no other way to access them. I would rather not backup from my IPhone 4 backup from a few weeks ago, or a fresh installation, as not to lose data. Is there anywhere to fix the settings, or cause them to auto relocate? I have checked my ITunes App tab as well. It has the same symptom.
My wife and I received our iPhone 5's just 3-days ago and we love them so far. The problem is as follows: On my iPhone, when I search the App Store, I get results and am able to view them.On her iPhone, when I search the App Store, I get suggestions, but nothing loads. I just see a spinner in my top bar. Please note the following:Both of us have identical iPhones (iPhone 5 with iOS6)We share the same iTunes accountWe are using the same WiFi networkWe are with the same phone companyShe can search using Safari and install apps once they have been foundAll other sections of the App Store work findI have automatically install new apps set to ON on both bevicesSwitching off WiFi does not help (searching on 3G or LTE)Signing out of iTunes on one phone and searching does not helpRestarting the phone does not help (same with a DHR - a double hard reset)Quitting App Store and loading it again does not help (closing from switcher) I'm thinking I might have to do a fresh iOS install on the phone. Any suggestions?
So...I ordered a new iPhone 5 from AT&T. It arrived today. I activated it with AT&T rep on the phone. All went well. Noticed some "lint" under the plastic protective sheet on the back of the phone. I removed the plastic. The lint was acutally a raised rough area that had been caused during the manufacturing of the iPhone 5. I called AppleCare. They directed me to the local store manager via phone. Team member did not let me speak with the manager after I discribed my problem. Instead she set an appointment for me to see a iPhone 5 specialist (not the manager) and said they would evaluate the defect in 50 hours...it was the earliest possible. Why am I a frustrated Apple Customer? I think I'm going to the store now!
HI all, for the first time, one of my Apple products is making me mad. 1.) I have an factory unlocked iPhone 4S running 5.1.1 2.) When I try to update, it (MacBook Pro running 10.8.1) extracts the software and then after a few seconds it shows me (An unknown error occurred (-1)) 3.) When I put the phone in DFU Mode and try to update it shows me (An unkown error occurred (21)) - The iPhone freezes at the Apple Logo I have downloaded the IPSW again (Yes I am sure I have the one for iPhone 4S), have downloaded and installed iTunes 10.7. Further I have installed iTunes fresh on a another Laptop (iTunes 10.7 on Windows 7) - Same behavior there. The funny thing is, when I restore the iPhone to 5.1.1 it restores it without any problem. I have also tried to first make a restore on 5.1.1 and directly on 6.0. Same problem. PLEASE HELP ME! Cheers Peter
I upgraded to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4s. Now I do not get a spinning shutdown indicator and the phone never locks the SIM, so it is not completely shutting down. Can I force my Mac to re-download iOS6 so I can make a fresh install?
Hello Folks,I know you can't have your iPhone linked to more than one system (to my knowledge) I have tried plugging my laptop in my brothers PC before and it wants me to format before I can add anything to it. I am planning on formatting my laptop in the next few days but don't want to have to format my iPhone as a result due to the fact it will no longer recognise iTunes due to the fresh format. Does anyone know a work around to this? Thanks.
I just retrieved my IPhone from 20 seconds in fresh, cold river water. It was on and not powered down. What can I do to resume operation? Please advise.
Hi there,My friend's iPhone 4 recently got stuck on the Apple logo screen and it seems that the only way to restore it back to full working order is to erase all data and perform a fresh start. Since asking an Apple Specialist on what to do, he and the rest of the team said they were unable to save the data from the device before the restoraion process. I know conventional methods are not possible, but is it not impossible? There must be some sort of way to save the data, even by unconventional methods. Just like a broken HDD, data can still be restored by taking it to the manufacturer and they can recover the data in a dustless environment using their technology. Bit of a newbie in Apple products since I am new to the Apple scene. Thanks for any information!
When restoring my iPhone from DFU mode I am getting error code 3194. Does anyone know what this is becuase when I searched Apple's website I am not finding anything on 3194. I would like to get my iPhone 4s restored so that it is fresh. Its not working. Help please!! DX
Recently I set up "find my iphone" on my idevice and even tested it. I was pleasent the way it worked. Now I'm curious to find out if my phone gets stolen/lost and whoever finds it does a fresh clean restore to it will I still able to find if data/wifi and location services are turned on? I couldnt find anywhere info if "find my iphone" app registers the hardware of the iphone(serial number or whatnot) cause if it doesnt this app doesnt help me if the phone is restored to a fresh state.
Hey everyone! Today I decided to update my iPhone 4 because it was still on 4.3 iOS Software. I went and updated it to 5.1 aware that it would erase all of my data (e.g. Applications, etc). After running through the iphone set up, I unlocked my phone aware that some of my data would be gone, but I still had my contacts & photos. I then decided to back up and restore my phone to an earlier state in which I still had all of my applications. After doing so I unlocked my phone only to discover ALL data completely gone, including my 200+ photos, music and contacts. I was completely in shock because the point at which I restored my phone, I still had all of my data. I'm now stuck with a fresh iPhone with only 3 of my previous apps, and no contacts or photos or music! I immediately did some research to discover I had to simply erase my settings through General, then restore it with my wifi using iCloud. NOW HERE IS SOMETHING TRICKY - My computer says I last updated iCloud @ 4:04PM, but when I go through the iCloud restore set-up process on my phone, It only shows earlier dates from my iPad, so restoring it does absolutely no good because I don't have anything like contacts or photos on my iPad. So my question is, how can I use iCloud to restore my iPhone 4 back to the state with my contacts & photos when only 3 un-helpful restore points are showing, and why can't I select the last updated iCloud time showing on my computer? Any info would be so helpful I'm missing an incredible amount of photos and contacts. Thank you so much in advance

Hi, I have an iPhone 4s on Sprint. It's on 5.1.1 and I've used it internationally before. I'm in Hong Kong and I had service at the airport but at my hotel I have no service. Yet, everyone else with 4 and 4S has service here. I've tried network reset, I have no pin set, I've done the airplane mode trick, reconfirmed roaming settings are correct, etc. I don't know how to proceed. I've emailed Sprint but due to the timezone difference I'm not within their operating hours. Thanks for any thoughts. I can't do an itunes restore because I'm on my work laptop using ubuntu.
Hi there, I plugged in my iPhone 4S into iTunes, and it tells me that there is an update (iOS 5.1.1)I click update, it downloads the file and away it goes. I left the computer as this happened, it automatically went to install and when I came back there was an error message. Unfortunately, I don't remember what it said, but what has happened is that the USB cable and iTunes symbol shows on my screen whenever I turn it on (telling me to plug it into my PC). However, iTunes doesn't recognise my phone. Neither does my computer, although it plays the USB sound when I insert/eject my iPhone. I called apple support and they were of no use, I've read several articles that involved uninstalling all apple programs and starting a fresh all to still be without a phone. I am at my wits end and most definitely need my phone, so I hope that somebody can please help me resolve this issue as soon as possible!
I just bought my iPhone 4S, it is fresh out of the box but my ring/silence switch will not silence the phone. I still hear the ring tones and the text tones when I flip it either way. Is my phone broken already? Lauren
My iPhone 4 keeps crashing and restarting and AppleCare is unable to duplicate the issue or resolved the issue.Recently my iphone randomly started crashing or it would freeze then i have to restart using power and home button, These are few things that I have already tried to resolve the issue: 1: Restore to factory settings and start over from scratch.2. Deleted recently updated apps to see which one could be causing the issue, but the issue is still there.3. Re-downloaded ios 5.1 and did a fresh restore. After doing all this I called Applecare and they suggested to send in my phone and they will replace it and send me a new one since Im still having the issue after doing all of the above. Today I recieved my phone back from Applecare stating that the issue was resolved or not duplicated. So I did a restore once again and from one of the saved files that I had setup as a new phone. In the last 6 hours my phone has froze once, and crashed twice. I called Applecare again and he suggested to send the iphone in again and he will put in the notes to give it max time to detect the issue. Are there any other alternatives? The closest Apple store is 140 miles from my house and Im fedup with sending in the phone and getting it back w/o the issue being solved. Thanks for the help in advance.
I have an unlocked iPhone 4G .. it just updated a few minutes ago, then for some reason lost my network .. I couldn't find my network. So I figured restoring it would be better ? .. NOPE !!! it got rid of everything, i have to start a fresh. it's like lockeddd, won't let me go past the setting up page. I'm sooo freaking frustrated .. I NEED HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He rinsed it immediately in fresh water and we now have it in a bag of rice. Is there a way he can retrieve the pictures off of it? We don't think he had synced with iCloud. HELP! Thanks
I have been using Apple products for years now. I also have convinced almost all of my friends and relatives to try them as well. But I am very dissapointed with my new $200 Iphone4S+2 year Verizon contract. It has giving me trouble since I bought it(apps crash, speaker works sometimes, general crash from the main image,etc..), after 5 months of resetting my 4S finally I decided to make the long drive and take it to Los Gatos Apple Store hoping they could just replace it or do something that could make me have a fresh start with the product, no it didn´t happen unfortunately even thou i spend half of my day in it. Now I´m stuck with this phone that was supposed to be fixed after two hours on the store with the host coming back and forth, and after that I drove back home and still havent find out if the phone was fixed entirely due to Itunes lack of response in a new issue regarding my address, seems that now Itunes doesnt recognizes the address that has been in their system for months now. So like I said, since my issue hasn´t been resolved, thought of giving the phone back and the guy at the apple store told me that the first thirty days where the time frame to return it, now i have to live with the most expensive phone I have ever bought that offers to be very smart but hasn´t been reliable at all. First time in 15 years that this happens to me with a mobile phone, maybe just being unlucky but Apple doesn´t seem to care much and unfortunately my perception of what Apple represented has changed very much. Anyone has any suggestions?
