I bought an iPhone 4 locked to Orange UK why can't it be unlocked

I contacted Orange UK and they said that this iPhone4 is ready to be unlocked, but they can't unlock the phone  because I am not the original contract owner. Why can't Apple unlock this phone, because the original owner doesn't care and has sold it? As far as I understand, I am one of at least 3 owners for this phone. I guess there could be more. I just wanted to have a normal iPhone, why can't Apple help on this issue?  I have previously had many apple products, this is the first one I bought used adn just wanted to restore it to normal. Another thing is that 3rd party services can unlock it for 200$. What is that they do to unlock it? Why can't apple make a small comission for unlcoking iPhones instead. People find ways to cheat and ripoff people who doesn't deserve to pay extra for the phone they bought. Here is my iPhones description: IMEI: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXSerial Number: XXXXXXXXXXXPart Description: IPHONE 4 16GB BLACK Product Version: 6.0.1 Coverage Status: Out of Warranty Coverage End Date: First Unbrick Date: 29/03/11 Last Unbrick Date: 10/04/11 CTN: 7580088512 Next tether Activation Policy Description: UK TMobile Orange. Can no longer tether ipad mini to iPhone 4 after updating iPhone 4 to iOS 6.1.3

Personal Hotspot iPhone 4 disabled by previous GSM operator

My current operator allows and has included in my plan cellular internet tethering. (I had used their services on this device before as well). I have switched to another service provider (O2 - UK) at some point, and they have somehow disabled my personal hotspot option via a "Network Settings" message they have sent when I first switched over. Now I am back with my old GSM operator, but their support center does not know how to re-enable the option on my phone. The "Set Up Personal Hotspot" button in the "Cellular" tab is grayed out and cannot be used right now. I am already on 6.0.1 and cannot update the iOS. Tried resetting the Network settings several times - it does not work. I really do not want to revert back to factory settings - lots of things to lose.. I just thought I'd also ask here as well. (By the way I can insert my SIM to other devices and they can tether the internet, so the trouble is really in the device) I would appreciate any help.Thanks.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 used to connect perfectly to iPhone PersHotspot but has suddenly lost ability.

I'm not positive, but I am fairly sure it was the update to the Tab that caused the tethering function to become inoperative. Unfortunately I updated the iPhone soon after...and I acknowledge that it might have been that. In any case, it used to work perfectly - I used it alot - then it wouldn't work. It connects immediately...with a strong signal...and it *appears* to be assigned an IP address by the iPhone...but it won't surf. The iPhone can surf fine by itself. The Tab can surf fine by itself (when using home or public Wi-Fi)I reset the network settings in the iPhone (which to my immense annoyance did not help)I've tried many times to "forget" and re-connect to no avail.I renamed my iPhone to remove spaces & punctuation marks (no difference - and was not a problem before)Have tried to tether via BT; devices *will* pair, but iPhone says they are incompatible and aborts the connection. Ideas please?

Can't access Personal Hotspot over Bluetooth with another iPhone

I have an iPhone 4S, running iOS 5.1.1. (Though this issue has existed since 4.3) I enable Personal Hotspot on the iPhone. Bluetooth and Wifi are turned on. My iPad 2 (running iOS 5.1.1) sees the iPhone in the list of available Bluetooth devices, connects to the iPhone, and voila! The iPad is tethering my iPhone's internet connection. When the two disconnect from one another (like when I leave the house). I simply pick up the iPad when I return, go to Settings>General>Bluetooth and tap my iPhone in the list of available devices, and (as long as my iPhone is within range) the iPad connects, and I'm online again. Painless! The problem arises when I try to connect my iPod touch or spare iPhone 4 to the Personal Hotspot of my iPhone 4S via bluetooth. I enable Personal Hotspot on the iPhone 4S. Bluetooth and Wifi are turned on. I pick up my iPod touch. Bluetooth is enabled, but the iPhone 4S does not appear in the list of available Bluetooth devices. I pick up my spare iPhone 4. Bluetooth is enabled, but the iPhone 4S does not appear in the list of available Bluetooth devices. The problem is, if I want this iPod touch or spare iPhone (acting as an oversized iPod touch) to access my Personal Hotspot, I have to unlock my iPhone 4S, go to Settings>Personal Hotspot and wait for the iDevices to connect; something I don't have to do with my iPad. Additionally, Personal Hotspot connections made over Wifi use far more power on both devices than Bluetooth. The weird thing is, there was a week or two (before updating to iOS 5.0) that my iPod touch was able to see my iPhone 4, connect to it via Bluetooth, and tether off the Personal Hotspot painlessly without me ever having to unlock the iPhone, and open Settings. To be thorough, I tried using my iPhone 4 (and even an old iPhone 3GS running 4.3) as the 'host' devices for my Personal Hotspot, and every time the iPad had no issues connecting, but all the other iPhones saw no available Bluetooth devices. Also, there are other discussions on this issue, I've tried to 'bump' them by commenting. I genuinely believe this to be a software flaw, but I'm open to suggestions. Thoughts?

Cisco VPN access over iPhone 4 Personal Hotspot

Hello everyone I am having problems connecting to our company Cisco VPN properly over a tethered or Personal Hotspot connection on my iPhone 4 (AT&T).If I tether my iPhone 4 to my MacBook Pro, the built-in Cisco VPN client will not connect to the company VPN server. If I set my iPhone to Personal Hotspot, the built-in Cisco VPN client will appear to connect correctly to the company VPN server, but after becoming connected you can't do anything it is as if you have no network connection (can't ping anything, etc.)The only way I have been able to do anything with a VPN and a tethered iPhone is to tether my iPhone to my MacBook Pro then use the built-in iPhone Cisco VPN client in the iPhone to connect to the company VPN server. If I do this, MS Office 2011 Outlook will connect up properly to the company Exchange server but nothing else works, i.e. I can't see any of the company computers that I should be able to see on a VPN session.Has anyone else had these kinds of problems? I have no idea what to try, I am not a VPN/network expert.

iPhone 4 drops calls constantly despite full signal then freezes

I'm at the end of my tether!  My iPhone4 drops calls for absolutely no reason at all, at least 50% of the time.  It doesn't matter how strong my signal is, or whether the call is outgoing or incoming.  The person on the other end doesn't sound like they are breaking up either - it just goes suddenly silent. Then, when I press 'end call' the phone freezes on 'call ending' - the only way out of this is then to reboot the phone. I've been back to the Apple Store in Glasgow twice, and to their credit they have replaced my handset twice within the last year; however despite my THIRD handset doing exactly the same, they have told me that no more replacements will be given. I have tried doing a master reset and setting up again as a new phone to eliminate the possibility that something within my back-up is corrupt, but the end result is the same. I have five different Apple devices at home and am a huge fan, but I'm afraid this is making me envious of my friends who have Android phones (sorry, didn't mean to swear!) Any suggestions???? Thanks

Why my iphone 4 usb tether personal hotspot crashing desktop PC

I connected my iphone 4 to my desktop PC to connect to the internet through usb personal hotspot. iPhone 4 Tethering Issue

I don't have the tethering plan, this phone was jail broken prior to my ownership of it. But now it runs tethering even though I don't have it jail broken. I have talked to AT&T and they are going to void any tethering connections so that I won't lose my unlimited data plan. But currently, it tries to tether to my laptop. Is there any way I can get it to stop? I'm running iOS5.0.1 currently.

Tethering with iPhone4 From working perfectly to useless

I recently activated the tethering option on my 2GB data plan with AT&T on my iPhone4. I am using a USB connection to my Windows Vista desktop.Three days ago, when I first set up the connection, it worked beautifully. I was able to activate the tethering option under Settings -> General -> Network -> Internet Tethering = ON and I was using this with 3G and Cellular Data enabled. About five to ten seconds after I activated this option, Windows picked up the new networking device and I was using the tethered connection right away. The iPhone showed the blue bar connection at the top of the screen for the homepage indicating that the tether connection was active.Yesterday, when I tried the same steps to activate my tethered connection, I was surprised that it no longer worked. My Windows machine is still able to recognize the iPhone as a device (i.e. I can still see the content on the phone), but it no longer recognizes a network connection. I tried on my Win7 laptop to see if it was something related to my desktop, but it wasnt able to recognize the tethering network connection either. I have an old MBP that I might also hook up to see if that helps recognize the network connection, but I suspect the more likely candidate is the phone itself.I have spoken with AT&T about the issue and they were unable to provide a working solution. I have performed a hard reset on the phone. Does anyone know of a configuration step I might have missed or alternative methods of testing to try to restore my working tether connection? Id really appreciate any help anyone could offer. Thanks! Windows Windows Vista windows

iPhone phone tethering issues with 4.2.1

I updated my iPhone 4 to 4.2.1 two days ago and tethering with a USB cable no longer works. I am paying for tethering so this is not an issue. My phone has never been jail broken or unlocked. It is stock Apple all the way. I have gone to Setting-General-Network-Internet Tethering and it is On. The funny thing is, I set up Bluetooth tethering when my old way (USB) of tethering and it works. I want to go back to using the USB cable.I am trying to tether my MacBook Pro which has 10.6.5 on it. I have gone into Network Preferences and had no luck there. I got an error message about the USB cable not being connected properly. MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.6.5)

I have used tether before on the 3.x versions, and dont recall if it worked on 4.0 (because 4.1 came along so fast)I go to General/Network/Tethering > and set it to ON. It used to drop a bar from the top stating Tethering is On No such bar now, and no connection. iphone 4 disconnects from Telus 3G network continuously while tethering

I have an iphone 4/iOS 4.1. I am in Canada subscribing to the Telus 3G cellular network. When tethering the iphone 4 to my notebook (WIFI turned off), the iphone simultaneously drops the tethering connection, drops the 3G connection and drops all bars on the strength indicator. It will stay disconnected for ~ 20 seconds then reconnect to the cellular network and re-establish the tethered connection. The iphone cycles through this series of events every 2 - 3 minutes indefinitely. It may take a few minutes to experience the first disconnect. I have had the same thing happen with 3 different iphone 4 units, all with iOS 4.1 on two different laptops, at 5 different cellular tower locations. This makes iphone 4 tethering on the Telus network all but unusable.Has anyone else on the Telus network in Canada experienced this problem. If you havent tried to tether the iphone to a computer and are on the Telus 3G network (without a WIFI connection in place)it would be greatly appreciated if you would try as per above and report back on your findings. Thanks in advance,Jim. . . iphone 4 iOS 4

iPhone 4 keeps trying to tether

Anyone else having issues with the phone constantly (yet, intermittently) trying to tether? I keep seeing the spinning wheel in the General>Network settings next to the button that you normally would press to Enable Tethering. I cant help but feel this is a software issue. It seems to be affecting battery life, to the extent that I had the phone with me all day and managed to bring the battery to 65% between 7am and 5:30 pm despite only 2 minutes of calls, 20 minutes with apps that I would expect could drain a battery, no facetime, 3 photos taken, 10 minutes viewing photos, and approximately 5MB of data use (mainly e-mail and a few manual facebook updates). Also, I had the 3G turned off most of the day. Doesnt seem like stellar results to me given my light usage.Any shared experiences? MacBook C2D 2GHz (White), Titanium G4 1GHz, iBook Rev. Jailbroken 3GS running 3.1.2 freezes with "too much" tethering iPhone

A couple of months ago, I jailbroke my AT&T iPhone running 3.1.2 and activated tethering. Seemed to work great. But after maybe 10 hours of tethered usage, the phone OS locked up and rebooting it left me at a permanent Apple logo. By the time this happened, Apple had released 3.1.3. But I had let Cydia store my hash codes, so with considerable effort, I was able to download and restore to 3.1.2, rejailbreak using blackra1n, and restore tethering from that peacefulinsanity site. Twice since then, the same lock up then freeze at the Apple logo has occurred. When I've gone a couple of months without needing to tether, it never fails, but it now "feels like" that after a few hours of tethered use (somewhere between 5-20), it's pretty much guaranteed to lock up and require a full restore (I haven't tried one of the auto-boot recovery fixes yet, but I'm sure that I will get that chance sometime soon if I continue tethering.) Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so, do you know what's causing it and how to avoid it? Thanks.

Random service coverage iPhone 3G

Hi there, So, Ive been having some very interesting service issues with my iPhone 3G. Ill give some examples! Camano Island, Washington: Ill look at my phone and have 4 bars of 3G service. Ill set it down in that same location and come back two minutes later and its saying Searching or No service. (Ive contacted AT&T and they say that no issue exists and they refuse to look into it.) Bellevue, Washington (size comparable to Seattle): Had my phone seating next to my dads iPhone edge, he had 5 bars with edge data while my 3G said searching, then went to 1 bar of 3G. Minutes later came the 3 bars of 3G in a location where I really should have 5 bars. Edmonds, Washington (in my house): I get 3-4 bars of 3G in some parts of my house, but sometimes it just likes to go to 1 bar or no service. Lynnwood, Washington (heres what really ****** me off): My friend has a G1 from T-Mobile, I can be sitting right next to him in a class room, next to a window, and he will have full 3G service (which is commonly faster than my 3G) where my phone will be struggling to find 1 or 2 bars. Also, outside of the school, out in the open, it will be Searching for about 3 minutes before it can go to 2 bars. Randomly I can have 5 bars as well. In another classroom, I sit right next to a Window and get No Service while others have full. I only have a few months left on my AT&T contract and I am very motivated to leave my iPhone and switch to the myTouch at T-Mobile, which is a much more open source OS that can tether. After buying a new laptop, I installed iTunes 8, and all went well. When the iTunes 9 upgrade became available, I installed it, but it was slow and jerky and was not recognising my iphone, and was crashing everytime I connected the phone. So I uninstalled iTunes 9, and reinstalled iTunes 8, but same results; program fine until I connect iPhone, whence it crashes. Problems Restore it and set up as new phone iPhone

Hi all,Ive been going around and around in circles trying to fix my dodgy connection problems on my iPhone 3G 3.0. Was having major issues with connectivity, poor signal, dropped or forward-to-voicemail incoming calls, poor sound quality etc and 0 signal in some rooms in my flat. After weeks of discussions with O2, apple and you good folk here on the forums whats the solution?Restore and set up as a new phone! Dont restore from a backup! The problem here seems to be that any corrupted or duplicate settings get pushed back to the phone and the problems just carry over if you restore from a backup. By setting up as a new phone all that seems to be fixed.I have now gone from an average of 1-2 bars in my basement flat with terrible connectivity issues to 4-5 bars and 0 connectivity issues. This is in a small basement flat with thick walls. In rooms I previously had 0 signal in I now get on average 2-3 bars. Thats a huge improvement for 20 mins work.It may seem like an obvious suggestion but if others, like myself, have simply been restoring from a backup in order to save a little time setting everything up, then you should definitely consider restoring and setting up as new. It only took me around 15 mins to get all my email and calendar accounts working again, sync over a few albums, photos, google sync up my contacts and away you go, and the actual restore process only takes a few mins as we all know.If youre at the end of your tether (no pun intended!) Id advise doing this. Youll be surprised how much better your phone will perform.Cheers PC Windows Vista 64-bit

turn-by-turn Navigator iPhone 3G

I was assuming that OS 3.0 had the turn-by-turn navigator. I got vary disappointed when I visited TomTom web site and found out that it will cost us a pretty significant sum of cash to get it. I really dont see that many new and free functions in the OS 3.0. We also have to pay for tether when it becomes available.Anyone have any info of the navigator system?ThanksRicardo

Can you believe 60.00 per month for tethering iPhone 3G

Im writing a letter of complaint to At&t about how theyre ripping us offfor intending to charge us $60.00 per moth to tether. We already pay for the Internet connection. Its no different than hooking up to Wifi. We should be able to use every feature the iPhone has to offer with out paying additional on top of the package to do it. Does anyone think Im unreasonable or do you agree with me? Those who do, I ask you to voice your opinion with At&t also. MAC Mac OS X (10.5.7)

I was just told by an ATT assistant that it will be around $80 a month to tether the new 3G S. I dont remember reading this in any of the blurb on the new phone.

Upgrade to 2.2.1 crashed and now my phone dead. Help iPhone 3G

First-off - my phone has never been jailbroken; I hoped that I would avoid such situations by refraining from such extremes! I am also running the latest Leopard incarnation natively on a Mac. I was prompted to upgrade the firmware of my 3G earlier, to 2.2.1. Lovely. I have never had a problem upgrading my first generation iPhone nor my 3G. I dived straight in and waited. A few minutes into the software upgrade iTunes said there was an error - upon cancellation and re-connection I was informed that my iPhone was in recovery mode. No great shakes?! Unfortunately, I tried to restore and it crashed. I tried again. It crashed. I consulted many forums including those here at Apple and followed their instructions - yet my iPhone remains bricked. I have restarted my Mac. Deleted Mobile Device. Deleted iTunes - installed iTunes. Set-up a new user on my mac, etc.I have reached my tether and would appreciate any advice. Failing that I would at least like to hear from someone in the same situation; perhaps we could join forces and storm the nearest Apple store!Kind regardsDamon Mac Mini Mac OS X (10.5.6) Intel

Should I buy an iPhone or Blackberry

I have friends that use both. The iPhone seems more advanced and easier to use. My Blackberry friends consider the iPhone unuseable because they cannot tether a laptop to an iPhone to gain internet access as they can do with a Blackberry. Our family has two AT&T phones now that share minutes. I assume that I could transfer one of my phone numbers to an iPhone. If I have two phones with AT&T, one is an iPhone and one is not, can we still share minutes as we are doing now? Before suggesting I contact Apple or AT&T, I have already done that and spent over an hour on hold pushing buttons and was never able to speak to a real person. Thank you for any advice.
