Does anyone have any idea if there is an app or a way to manage your ringtones in terms of time of the day? During work hours, I would like my ringtone to be a vibrate, or something unobtrusive, since its quiet. However, outside work hours, Id like it to be something more obtrusive so I dont miss it. This is similar to profiles for blackberry users. Any ideas? I dont see anything in settings, but not sure if Im missing something, or if there is an app that would provide this functionality. TIA. 3G
Does anyone know if iPhone has a way to change boring ringtones for incoming e-mail or text message to a custom ringtone. I have custom tones that say you have mail or message and would like to change them. I can not find if it is possible to do this. If it is not would apple consider changing that issue as an improvement for upcoming software so all iPhone sounds could be changes or is there a reason they could not be?Thnaks iPhone 3G Windows XP Pro
Im using a 3G iPhone running version 2.2 that I connect to my car radio via a Dension IceLink connection. Apart from a few applications that I have installed, the iPhone is standard, not jailbroken.Until recently, although I received the usual this accessory is not made to work with the iPhone, would you like to use Airplane mode message whenever I connect the iPhone to the car radio, the connection worked fine and I was able to play songs through the car radio using the iPod interface on the iPhone. At first, I wasnt able to charge the iPhone. That problem is now solved since I bought the Scosche PassPort adaptor. However, a couple of days ago, a new problem occurred: I can no longer use the iPod controls when the iPhone is connected. On connecting the iPhone, I still receive the this accessory is not made to work with the iPhone, would you like to use Airplane mode message (I select NO). But when I select the iPod application, I just have a grayed out screen with the message Accessory Connected displayed.Disconnecting the iPhone enables the iPod interface again; reconnecting it brings up the message again.Note that the iPhone will play songs through the car radio even when this message is displayed -- its just the controls that I lose0Any ideas? iMac G5 17" 1.8mhz 1gb/500gb Mac OS X (10.5.6) iPhone 3G v2.2
I had to do a restore from backup on my iphone today because an app just totally messed up the phone. I restored from back up successfully i think all my info was back on the phone. The only problem is that now, since this is the first time that this has ever happened to me, when i try to sync it wont do anything. For example, i added new music to itunes, my settings are to sync automatically, but it wont do it, i manually have to take the song file and drag it to iphone icon on left hand side of itunes when the phone is connected for it to sync the song to the phone. I also now have to do this with ringtones that i make, and videos. When i go to the music section while iphone is connected and it says automatically sync selected songs, it did give me a message like if you check this, all your videos and songs will be deleteed. i need to update my software on phone and never had a problem before but for some reason i plug it in and click ok etc and after 2 and a half hours it isnt even half way through installing software. should it really take so long?also i bought some songs on itunes and have lost them somehow, can i download them again for free or do i have to buy them again??CheersMel iphone 3g Windows Vista
The Help file for iTunes on Syncing media with iPhone has the following entry: Click the tabs (Music, Photos, and so on) and select the items you want to sync.To sync only certain items, click Summary, select “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox, and then click the other tabs and select the items you want to sync. I am confused about this because the “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox seems redundant in the following sense. Even if this checkbox is NOT selected, iTunes allows me to select the items I want to sync under each tab.If the “Sync only checked songs and video” checkbox is NOT selected, then under the Music tab, for example, I would rather expect NOT to be able to select particular items to sync. Can anyone explain this? hello, first of all i live in an African Country, the iPhone 3G was recently launched by ORANGE here, i purchased one from the Orange store for Christmas and i am experiencing a lot of problems.First of all when i was waiting for my iphone to be activated in the store, the employee said that they were experiencing problems with my iPhone 3G, to make a long story short, they replaced the sim card and the phone seemed to work.after about a week of using the phone, ive noticed:-some of my calls are being dropped randomly-the metal frame around the plastic bit hasnt been glued (manufactured) properly, a fraction of a mm of light is emmiting from one side of the phones metal framework-my phone randomly tells me theres no service and then suddenly 10mins later i get full service (without moving the phone, the same happens with my wi-fi)-my phone randomly goes on silent (the ringtone is on the loudest, and the silent button hasnt been activted)Can someone give me advice on what i should do? do i go to ORANGE and ask them to give me a new iPhone? what should i tell them exactly?its a first hand phone, i havnt dropped the phone, and yes i have already tried reformatting the phone, and i still have the same problems, and in case your wondering, NO i did not jailbreak my iPhone 3G - 8GB iPhone 3G - 8GB Mac OS X (10.5.6) Malfunctioning - Replacing
Hi there I recently bought a 3G Iphone and a new computer. I installed the Itunes 8.0 and had no problems syncing my songs to my nano Ipod through any of the six USB ports. But when I tried to sync my IPhone, although the computer recognizes the device and I can charge fine, none of my songs downloaded. Ive been through the entire IPhone help guide to no avail. I know there some posts on this earlier, but I could not find the thread. Anyway, twice in the last week, I plugged my headphones in to make a call, but I got a meeting cancellation before I dialed in. After receiving the cancellation, I took the headphones out, and out of the blue, the iPhone just started to play music (not from a playlist, but from all songs).Ive seen posts on this before, porobably sometime last month, and Ill admit, I did not think it happened the way it was described...but now its happened twice to me in the last week.To duplicate the problem, insert headphones (from the home screen), goto Phone, choose keypad, press the home button, remove the headphones. Sometimes it starts to play (othertimes, you can see the play icon briefly before it disappears). Its a strange quirk that I am wondering if others can duplicate. Ive looked through the discussions and could not find my answer. If you know of a discussion already posted please refer me to that.Question: After buying a song from iTunes is there a statute of limitations governing the songs ability to create a ringtone?None of the songs that I bought before my iPhone can be made into ringtones and songs that I bought a few days ago, which initially I could make into a ringtone, but did not, now can no longer be made into a ringtone. Also, is there any program besides iTunes that can be used to create ringtones from any song?Thank you for any and all help.Message was edited by: Abe MacBook Pro (Early 2008) & Intel Core 2 Duo 20" iMac Mac OS X (10.5.5) 2.4GHz & 2GB Ram

Hi, I have an iPhone 3G thats been fine til today. When I use the phone, I cant hear anything. The caller, however, can hear me. The speaker in the phone is fine; I can play songs and hear them fine over the phones speaker. The problem seems to be only when I use the actual phone. When I press speakerphone during a call nothing happens then either. Its as though the act of using the device as a phone kills the speaker. as soon as I hang up the call, I can hear the speaker again.Ive been through the troubleshooting tips... Turned off bluetooth, use earphone jack to make sure no dirt is built up in the headphone jack...(Its a clean iPhone!) Ive done the two-fingered reset -- all to no avail. All the audio works except the telephone and even though the call completes - and the person on the other end can hear me - I cant hear a thing. Theres no sound at all... no hiss, nothing, when the phone is in use.Apart from the phone/audio anomaly, everything else is working fine. Have I done something stupid? (Yes, Ive tried cutting the volume up and no, it doesnt say headphone when I do) I rarely use a bluetooth headset (bluetooths now off anyway) and havent had my phone connected to anything other than my MBP to charge the battery. The area I live in doesnt support 3G, so thats turned off to save battery power. And if no one might know of a cure, where the heck do I get my phone fixed? I bought it at an AT&T store... will they take care of it if necessary? Online, it appears that Apple will let me see if its under warranty by keying in my phones serial number (and it is!) but then stops there... Wouldnt it be great if they had a link from that warranty status page to either an 800 number or some kind of email tech support... or anything useful? I would imagine the need for support is the #1 reason people look to see if they have time left on their warranty. Its almost as if Apple thinks the iPhone is infallible and will never need service because they sure dont like to tell you how they go about fixing one if need be.Sorry - rant over. Im just glad I kept my land line. Any help or advice on where I might get service - assuming its not something silly Ive done that I can fix - would be greatly appreciated. Oh - Im on version 2.2 of iPhone software, I think. Thanks very much for any help! MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.2)
I bought a ringtone compatible track from iTunes today on my laptop. Made my ringtone, bought it, downloaded it to the same authorized account laptop. Went to synch my iPhone to upload it. I get the message (Track) was not copied to (your) iPhone because you are not authorized to play it on this computer. My laptop IS one of my authorized accounts (3 of 5). Confirmed by the ringtone I bought on the same laptop & downloaded with no issue the night before. I deauthorized the computer, then re-authorized it. I restarted both the laptop & and iPhone (G3). Same thing. I had the same track already in my iTunes library from years previous from the original CD. So I deleted it, thinking perhaps it was interfering with the newly purchased track. Restarted everything & tried synching again. Same issue-no go. Help please. MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.6) iMac G5

What type of file is the backup file (if it is a file?) ?? What would it be named?--How can I bring back my library after i find it??---How do I restore my iPhone again to how it was (with all my old files, contacts, applications, music, etc.) AFTER I RESTORE MY LIBRARY?Alright, hope someone can help. I would like to see an update that allows any song, even ones not purchased from the itunes store, to be made into ringtones. Many of the songs I have from cds would have been usable as ringtones if I had bought them from the itunes store. I do not think that I should have to pay for a song twice in order to be able to use it as a ringtone. Has anyone heard of such an update? Or maybe another program I can use to create my own original ringtones? Windows XP
Im not sure why but when I hit the side button to make sure my ringer was up all the way it showed up on my screen as ringer (headphones) above the bell. I dont have any headphones in my iPhone! Ive tried turning my phone off then on. I have even restored and resynched my phone and it still says it. Does ANYONE know something I can do? It still rings when people call me but I cant just play my iTunes songs or hear when I have a text message. Please help me out! Toshiba Windows Vista
Only the default ringtone plays when a person calls on my phone even though I have different ringtones set for contacts. I use Mobile Me contact syncing...and like it a lot. I placed a bug report in iPhone feedback, but was curious is anyone else has this problem and found a solution. I have done reset and complete restore and still have the issue. Alright, so heres the story. I was typing up something on the computer and wanted to talk on the phone at the same time. That would have been fine, except, my battery was dying. So, I decide to charge through my computers front USB ports. as to be expected, iTunes recognized the device and starts to sync with it. Afraid of losing my call, I decide to slide to cancel on my iPhone. I later discovered that all my songs I had purchased directly from my iPhone after my last sync are now completely missing. Is there anything I can do to recover these, or am I SOL?
I connect my iPhone 3G (2.2 firmware) to my Alpine stereo in my car which is compatible, usually when I shuffle through songs, the iphone will randomly restart itself every once in a while and one time it restarted and the iphone was deactivated and I had to connect to iTunes to make it work again. I was wondering if it is because of the passcode lock I put on it about 2 months ago but I dont know if thats the reason for sure. Any ideas? Late 2008 MBP 2.53GHz 4GB Ram Mac OS X (10.5.6)

My iPhone got rather confused and kept freezing iTunes on my main PC, I plugged it into my laptop and iTunes on that also froze, sorted the phone out by doing a reset (Off button & Home Button), but now with my main pc that it syncs with states it wants to remove everything as it is not the Library used to sync the phone, (it was),is there anyway around this, all my songs are showing as on the phone in iTunes, but greyed out, they still work fine using the iPod side of the phone.Any ideas.

I happily received my iPhone last Friday and spent the weekend setting it all up. Thats where the first disappointment / frustration came in - couldnt transfer any files or contacts from my old Sony Ericsson via bluetooth. Had to spend hours setting up my contacts on my MacBook Pro so I could use the sync via iTunes. Have found that I cannot connect to any phone via bluetooth.Next frustration arose when I discovered that all the ringtones I created for my Sony (mp3 extracts of various songs) cannot be used as ringtones on the iPhone. Have just found a few convoluted ways to get around this but yet to try them.Next frustration came when I couldnt forward an SMS or copy it. Found on the forum that there is some third party software to download to bypass this. Cant send or receive MMS eitherLastly I tried to pair my Jabra bluetooth stereo headset - had the same problems as others (as found out after discovering the forums). I can get it for phone usage (or voicemail at least) but not for playing music.Oh, forgot one - no FM radio! All the basic, common old features found on any new phone, but cannot do any of these on the latest. greatest. state-of-the-art phones. Absolutely love the way all the features which you CAN use operate - sensational functionality. But with so many basics that cannot be performed, I think I will (very sadly) have to take advantage of the 10-day cooling off period, and return my phone and get a later model Sony or Samsung. At least I know they do MY basics. If I have my facts totally wrong, then please let me know ASAP before I send the phone back and wait until (hopefully) later models get it right! Please note that I have been a Mac computer user for years and love them. I have been eagerly waiting for my phone contract to expire so I could get this sexy iPhone - oh how disappointing!!!!! Im sure there is a simple solution. I dont use iPod/music much on my iPhone but have just loaded a bunch of songs. However, every song repeats, and I have to physically touch forward for next song. I have an iMac and I always sync my iPhone 3G without a problem until today. Last night I downloaded a program to my Mac called iToner. It makes any songs of yours Ringtones and syncs your iPhone 3G with the program not with iTunes to get the ringtones on your iPhone. When you first load it up it says that it must restart iTunes to make the program work. So I let it restart iTunes and whatever. Now when I sync with iTunes, it just goes crazy. When I click the sync button, the sync button freezes for 5 seconds and then it starts syncing then it finishes syncing but it says that it is syncing photos. And it just keeps syncing photos. It sync photos for about 15 seconds after it finishes syncing. Nothing in the my photos folders have changed.Ive tried syncing my other iPods (iPod video and iPod touch) to see if it messes up with those but it does not. Only with my iPhone 3G. I tried restoring my iPhone 3G and that didnt work. I uninstalled iToner and iTunes and reinstalled iTunes and it still doesnt work.Does anyone know how to fix this? iMac Mac OS X (10.5.5)
My hard drive packed up last week, and i didnt save my itunes back up anywhere.I lost most of my apps (that i have now re-downloaded), when i got a new HD and put itunes back on and synced for the first time. However, i have all of my songs on my phone, but not in itunes. Is there a way to transfer my tunes from my iphone back into my itunes, or will i have to load my 83 CDs back into it, and spend ages making my own compilations again? Not to mention having to scan the Cd covers that were too obscure for itunes to find last time i put them on.I have heard that this is a one way transfer (itunes to iphone only), for some stupid reason. Surely it would be easy for itunes to read your iphone serial number and maybe your motherboard serial number and store them within your account as a security code, so you can can upload your songs back into itunes.BTW, i am using Windows Vista. Can anyone help me?Message was edited by: PCthug_uk Windows Vista

Newbie here.I tried to download a Podcast on my 3G to view the video display on the phone. I still dont understand all of this ITUNE/IPHONE stuff. I thought that whatever I downloaded to ITUNES I could transfer and view on IPHONE 3G. I wanted something in HD so I tried the ARES PROJECT OFFICE report. It was a 200 MB file. ITUNES seemed to download it and I could view it in ITUNES on my PC (sorry). But I did something to try and view it on the IPHONE. It said it could not be veiwed on the IPHONE so I deleted it, or so I thought. Now when I sync the scale at the bottom shows my installed APPS, songs and etc and also shows a 200MB file thats lost or at least has NO description. SO I tried to update to 2.2 last night and itunes crashed while backing up my iphone 3G. Now it wont install the update pack that it has successfully downloaded. It says it cant synch the iphone because of an unknown error. So I synch the ipod successfully..eveything new from music and tv shows was successfully put on. I tried again same error. I figure I have to restore and when I do so it tells me that I have purchased songs on my iphone that I have not transferred to itunes and will be lost in the restore process. I probably have purchased 20 or so songs directly on the iphone. I have synched. I have selected transfer purchased songs manually in itunes. And its right, they are not on itunes anywhere. Yesterday, I managed to drop my first generation iPhone in the toilet. In a flash it sank to the bottom, resting there, fully submersed. I grabbed it up, dripping, with all the speed I could muster, slowed only by the involuntary and very loud expletive, and carried it to the sink for a quick rinse as an ingrained need for cleanliness overwhelmed my regard for science. The Apple Discussions pages offered little hope: No warranty coverage, a warning over a repair scam, referrals to services that would charge near replacement cost for an unknowable chance of uncertain recovery. The only hope seemed to be a legend reported by a couple of owners that embedding the iPhone in rice might suck out and up whatever moisture it had accumulated in its two swims.I put my phone, with its 900 contacts, 1,100 songs and 200 family photos into a bowl and filled the bowl with about a pound of rice that had been vacuum packed, perhaps two cups or so. My theory was that the rice would act as a homemade desiccant to draw out all the moisture on and in the phone. After thinking about it for a few minutes, I decided to take everything out to the garage, where I used a can of compressed air to blow out the phones earphone jack and the docking hole. Then, back into the rice it went. After an hour or so I grew concerned that the rice was attracting moisture from the air, conceivably either wicking more moisture into the phone or at a minimum not being as effective as I had hoped. So into the gas oven it went, the phone, rice and bowl. I figured that the gas pilot flame puts out just the right amount of heat, probably keeping the oven somewhere in the 130 to 150 degree range.I left it there overnight, hoping that the trick would work but without any confidence at all.First thing next morning, I pulled the bowl from the oven and the rice-dusty phone from the bowl. Without even blowing off the dust (which I did later), I turned on the phone. It lit! It worked! as the day went on, I tested all of its features. They all work just fine.So far the fix is working. While I am not certain that its permanent, I am confident that the phone got a really good drying out.If it were to happen again, I might be tempted to use a Ziplock rather than a bowl, the theory being that the rice would then attract less moisture from the free air. Also, in a perfect world Id probably rinse it off with denatured alcohol rather than water. There are folks who say that would displace the water better. But for the moment, Im a happy camper, lesson learned about toilets, iPhones, gravity and shirt pockets, and you have a story. One that actually worked. 15" MacBook Pro, Every Mac since 85 Mac OS X (10.5.5) iPhone, iPod
