I believe that after updating to 2.2 my WiFi at my office didnt work so well. The router would sporadically show up but drop the connection. Turns out that 3 out of 5 of us have this problem. I did discover that resetting my iphone made WiFi work good as new for us but only for a day it seems. Plus I had to redo all of my settings and icons which was a pain in the butt.Yesterday I tried just resetting the iphone network settings. So far, not only has that worked, but I dont have to redo all of my personal settings. Its the 2nd day and my WiFi is strong and stable at work.Hope this helps. 2.o Dual Core G5 Mac OS X (10.5.5) 2.5 gigs of ram
So when Im on a call or listening to vmail and then move the phone away from my ear to either end call or delete a vmail or what not the screen stays or switches to black and Im unable to do anything. I use to have the first gen iPhone and it did this only ever so often, but since I upgraded to the 3G its happening every time. Is there a solution to this? I am currently looking to get a laptop for school and was going to go with a MacBook, however all of my stuff from my iPhone is on my familys desktop PC. Is there a way to transfer my iPhone account from my PC to a MacBook or even another PC such as my moms laptop? Would it be possible to just copy my iTunes folder from my PC to a flash drive and then move it to either a MacBook or another PC and still be able to synce my iPhone properly? I am fully aware of the restrictions on this phone and feel the need to express myself on the forum and release the frustration with the lack of customizable functions/features the iphone has, if possible I would like to change the black screen, add ringtones to my text message alerts, and maybe possibly delete some icons/programs like stocks and world clock from my display. CAn someone from Apply or steve jobs look into that for me, I have been in many forums and it seems like everyone is having the same issues...could it be that apple just doesnt care what we are saying? I just updated from the 2G iPhone to the 3G iPhone last night. I was excited to see the differences between the two. But after got home I noticed that my screen would only tilt to the right, not to the left. I did a hard reset & it seemed to have fixed the problem but then a hour or two later no matter what I was in (photos, safari, or ipod) the screen would only tilt to the right. I can have the phone on its left side but the top of the screen just stays as if it were tilted to the right! It will rotate upright if I turn it that way. So far my 2G iPhone was a lot better than this one when it comes to tilting the iPhone because I could tilt my old one left, right, or upside down & it would rotate right now! An Apple Customer Care Agent told me its because the new 3G iPhone only tilts one way?! Which ever way you tilt it first, your iPhone remembers that & only tilts that way unless you restore your device to the original settings. Is what I was told! I dont believe that to be true because of all the tilting apps out there that require you to move the iPhone in all directions. So to sum it all up. My iPhone will tilt correctly sometimes & then sometimes it will just tilt to the right. Is there a way to fix the problem without having to exchange my iPhone? Thanks!! iMac Mac OS X (10.5.6)
Im new to the iPhone 3G (Ive had it 3 days) and Im trying to figure out if theres something wrong with my iPhone, or if it is just the way it is. Ive posted a similar message on the AppleInsider forum, but I am being accused of being an S60 fanboy rather than actually getting any constructive help.I was under the impression that the iPhone was a very speedy device, and even more so with firmware 2.2 installed (which I have updated to as it came with 2.1). However, it comparison to my Nokia E71, it can be quite sluggish, and I am trying to establish whether this is normal, or if there is something wrong with my iPhone. For instance, on the iPhone it takes a good 2 seconds before the Settings or Contacts menus popup after pressing their respective icons. In addition, typing in Safari is very sluggish, with the magnified letters and click noise being delayed and I almost have to stop and wait a second for the phone to catch up and make sure its got every word I typed before moving on. This sluggishness and delay was not something I was expecting from the iPhone given all the reports on how quick it is, and it can be quite frustrating in comparison to the operational speed of the E71.Is this delay normal, or is there something wrong with my phone? Does it take about 2 seconds to open Contacts and the Settings menu on your iPhone? Can Safari keep up with your typing speed? I probably type in the region of 40-50wpm and it struggles to keep up with this.Any opinions or suggestions greatly welcome, as Id like to get this thing flying along just like my old phone did! Thanks,Michael.
I have just downloaded an application by the name of WritePad. It offers full, copy, cut, paste and highlighting of text. These features seem to work really well within the program and offer a look into how some kind of selecting tool might be executed on the iPhone. Try the application for yourself and tell answer me this: Why wouldnt Apple look at this application-- gather some ideas-- and put these tools into all the areas of the iPhone-- not just within one application?I would really like to see some kind of plan executed for copy and paste...Then we can move on to adding MMS... among other things...Message was edited by: Taxidog22 MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)
While I enjoy using my 3G, I wish there was the ability to add icons/buttons on homepage as shortcuts for some frequently used functions. For example, having such shortcuts for Bluetooth and WiFi will be very convenient if you are turning them On and Off ferquently as I do. I searched the net but couldnt find any way to do something like this.I think its not possible with todays iPhone 3G. Do you know if Apple has any plans to add such a function in the future with a new firmware? Thank you iPhone 3G Windows Vista

Hello all, i am a new iphone buyer and wondered if any of you had the same experience as me...Purchased on the 24th of December 2008 an iphone 3g 16gb... I opened the box and the box was not sealed. Not thinking anything of it, i proceeded to take the iphone out of its box. The 26th was the first time i tried to use it. I had to insert the sim card, on trying to do this, the sim eject remained stuck inside...I tried and tried to get it to work, but it wouldnt. The next day my Father returned the iphone to the 02 shop in Chester, England and they said that it had been tampered with!!I had used slight pressure to eject the sim card and it wouldnt move. They are now sending the iphone back to you for your engineers to look at it. I would be gratefull if you could note this email when looking at my case.so to sum upNo wrapping on box or phone. No InstructionsEject wouldnt work for sim cards.Has this happened to anyone else... pc Windows XP
My wife has a new iphone that has the 2.2 os running on it. As of yesterday, the screen has gone dark (but the icons of the phone are still visible) the phone still functions. I have a simple question, and think I know the answer, but was hoping for first hand experience. I currently have a black 8GB iPhone 3G, which I bought this past July. Ive realized that 8GB is not sufficient for the amount of music and video I like to carry around, so Id like to buy a white 16GB iPhone 3G. I understand that since I already bought an iPhone 3G this year, I am not eligible for the subsidized price, so I am prepared to pay $499 for the unsubsidized white iPhone 3G, and sell my current iPhone 3G on Craigslist or eBay or something. What would be the process for this? Do I go to the Apple Store, tell them I want to buy an unsubsidized iPhone 3G, and they will move my number and such over to my new iPhone? Then my current iPhone would be un-activated, and it would be up to the new owner to activate.Am I correct? Ive heard a ton of people complaining about this, saying its a huge hassle to do. Any personal experience? Thank you! Macbook (Unibody), 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM Mac OS X (10.5.6)
IMGhttp://images.macrumors.com/article/2008/12/22/170245-nano_800.jpg/IMGThats right. The rumored iPhone Nano is about to release on February 13, 2009. There will be a 4Gb version for $99, and an 8Gb version for $189. Despite the rumors saying there will be no 3G or internet, there will be full 3G and internet. It will have all of the features of the iPhone 3G, besides the fact that the home screen can hold only 12 icons + the dock. Further details will be given at the mac world expo in a few days. Well I havent ever seen reference to it anywhere, and after suggesting it to an open-source phone community, I realized Id probably like it on my phone as well.Of course, multi-touch is not available on the phones I suggested it for, which is the reason I thought of it, but it could be put to good use on the iPhone as well.Accelerometer functions in both the Map, and the iPod features. Maps such as: When phone is locked while still in the maps application, hitting either the home or power button would bring up the map and route if available. a shake to the right would move the route forward one step, and the left, one back.iPod such as: when the phone is locked but playing, instead of hitting the home button twice, a double shake to skip to the next song.Sure these arent necessary to most iPhone users, but it does add quite a bit to those who use the maps function while driving, or alternative head-phones while listening to music.Dont flame me yet!takes deep breath and starts running, never to return to apple discussionsokay start flaming now! My favorites list got deleted, plus I cannot use it anymore (even though the main icons appear). Also, when I go to phone the keypad is locked, I cannot type any number to call it. I can only call through contacts, by tapping on a contacts number. Still, I get on the top of the screen a green stripe saying Touch to return to call. If I tap on it, I dont get anything either...What should I do?? Please any help would be greatly appreciated!!!Message was edited by: karmaggedon88 iphone 3G Windows XP
I had trouble using the phone function on my iPhone with Bose over-the-ear sound cancelling headphones, connecting the two with a Bose connector with a mouthpiece (http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/shop_online/headphones/noise_cancelling_headphones/accessories/qc2_commkit_acc.jsp)When the phone is on and sending a signal the headphones generate an irritating buzz which isnt audible to the person that youre talking to, but is to you. It seems to be caused by the electromagnetic field created by the phone, i.e. changing the position of the phone makes the buzzing disappear or get louder and the closer you bring the phone to the headset the louder the buzz. Two things seem to make a difference, the orientation of the phone, move it around until the buzzing decreases, and the second is to fold a small loop (diameter 1 - 2) in the wire 5 or 6s below the mouthpiece. This seems to cancel out the sound and with the right orientation of the phone eliminates the buzzing entirely. It seems to work best when the loop in the wire is directly in the path between the phone and the headphones. Fight interference with interference!Anyone got any other suggestions? Mac OS X (10.5.5)
Alright I have a bunch of photos in the Camera Roll that I took with the camera phone. It defaults to the Camera Roll folder, but how do I move them to other folders on the phone? Can I do multiple pictures at once?Or do they have to be moved one by one? Windows XP Pro
Ever since I dropped the phone a week ago (still working otherwise), the Safari and Camera icons have disappeared from my home screen, and I cannot seem to find them. I have tried Reset Home Screen Layout from the Settings / General menu, but while the existing icons rearrange the missing ones do not appear. I would like to restore these icons if possible, but I am not sure how to do it myself. As I am a relatively new user, I am probably missing something, but I couldnt find it on a few searches for the information. iMac Mac OS X (10.4.11) iPhone 3g
Two questions:1. To move my entire itunes library (which is currently synced with my ipod) from my old PC to my new Mac, is everything I need to do listed in this article? Can someone please tell me how I can make sure that everything that is on my iphone right now (contacts, text history, photos taken with iphone, music, etc) will remain there when I go to plug in my iphone to my new Mac for the first time? I am unsure as to what to do to make sure that I dont delete information from my iphone when I connect it to the new Mac for the first time....make sense?Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! I am eager to become a full fledged Mac user but am scared to death of losing my itunes library as well as my current iphone contents when I make the switch......
I have heard from several different people that using aftermarket car chargers for iPhone and iPhone 3G will wreck the battery on your mobile device. Is there any merit to these claims? I use my phone a lot and have on more than one occasion found myself on the move with a dead phone and no way to get a charge outside of pulling over and plugging it into my laptop.Thoughts and insight from the pros would be greatly appreciated! 15" MBP CD, iPhone 3G Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Does anyone know or can someone create an Application for your resume. In an economy like today, people are looking for jobs and a resume is the first thing employers look at. Is there already an Application that has this capability? If not, can someone create one?! My other question is instead of trying to arrange your icons on your iPhone, can you do it on your computer when you are Syncing with iTunes by using your mouse. Then when you are done, you sync again and your icons are arranged the way you did on your PC.Thanks

Hi,suddenly I looked at my home screen and it seemed different. I noticed that the phone option is missing from the bottom of the home screen. It is usually down with the icons mail safari and ipod. Where did it go and how can I get it back???? Thanks... iphone 3g
The problem started that the IPhone showed that an aplication shoud be updated. While the aplication whas updating the icon showed load/wait for several days. The ITunes store at that time was availeble. After a second request for the update of three more apps, all these apps stayed in the same condition. The day after all the icons on the IPhone installed from the ITunes store looked normal, but in fact they where not working.Afther starting they all returned to the main screen after one second. So all the extra apps installed by me at the IPhone dident work annymore.I tryed tho solve the problem by restoring the IPhone whith the system software 2.2.Afther that the apps cant be replaced. All the apps are avalible in my ITunes program. The ITune program tells me that i have no rights to install them on the IPhone. On Windows XP im loged on as administrator.I am loged on in ITunes, and have an acount. My IPHone is a 3G one.I have installed the ITunes 8.0.2.20 software. What can be the problem? The only way tho install the apps on the IPhone is one by one. Then im still not sertain that the apps will work the next day. That wil take me another severall hours. It is already the second time this is happing. On the internet there is no expenation for this problem. Is there an other solution for this?Is there anyone who can help me whit these problems?Yellow Panda Paradigit Windows XP
I bought a new iMac and am trying to set it up so I can use it to sync my iPhone (original not 3g) instead of the old PC we were using and are trying to phase out. When I plug the phone into the iMac and try to sync, or even manually manage music, I get the message that the iPhone is synced with another iTunes library, do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?I dont care about losing the music/pictures that are on the iPhone, as I can easily re-add them to the iPhone. However, I DO NOT want to lose the contacts, text messages, notes, and other data that is on the phone. I have found hacks online to be able to sync an iPhone with multiple computers continuously, however I am simply looking to CHANGE the computer my phone syncs to, not use multiple computers all the time. When I moved our music to the iMac, I created a new music library because it was much easier than doing the consolidate library process that I have had a ton of problems with in the past. Is this now creating the problem with the phone? Were slowly trying to move all of our products to Apple...but Apple is not making this process very easy! Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Hi all,I know there are some questions about this topic, but:I bought an iPhone 3G in the UK with a contract of O2. Now I have to move back to Germany. O2 let me cancel the contract before its regular end by paying the whole contract at once. But the phone will be still locked to O2. Id like to know if Apple is able/willing to unlock the phone? The important point in my case is, that my phone has to be replaced by a new one, because of a faulty body. I already went to the Apple Store and they confirmed the replacement. So maybe it could be possible to replace it with a german one? Thanks in advance.Jakob Mac OS X (10.5.5)
Im getting ready to move from an 1st generation 4GB iPhone to a 1st generation 8GB iPhone. As I understand it, these are the steps I should take:1. move SIM card from 4GB iPhone to 8GB iPhone.2. Activate 8GB iPhone with AT&T as a replacement iPhone via iTunes3. After activation, sync 8GB iPhone with iTunes to reload music, photos, and apps.Needless to say Im very nervous about this. iMac (G5, G4, G3), Powerbook G4, iPhone, iPod, MP2100 Mac OS X (10.4.11) Mac OS 10.5.5, Mac OS 9.2.2, iPhone OS 2.2, Newton OS 2.1

I have searched all 7 pages of iPhone 3G section, any topic with battery in subject line, did not find a match, so posting new question.Im a new 3G owner; use wifi and bluetooth, fetch mail manually (no push); battery life easily holds 2-3 days with my typical usage; had never downloaded an app; last night decided to browse the free app store; download several stupid games and a few apps (google earth, urban spoon, shazaam, weather channel). BUT have not launched ANY of them...just the new icons sitting on my phone. However, today, after fully charging last night, battery dropeed to 20% by about noon. ???Again, havent changed a setting nor have I launched any of the apps I downloaded (was planning to play this weekend). Any ideas? Or should I just unistall all of them and download one at a time and watch it going forward? Thanks for any advice. PC Windows XP Pro iPhone 3G
this isnt to whinge or a moan, this is just to see if anyone else is having these problems, i have already filed a bug report/feedback with apple..firstly my iphone 3g has done the re activating thing twice now,but this is fixed with just restarting the iphone so im hoping there is nothing really wrong.another thing i have noticed is i read my emails i then delete them and delete from trash i will then go to another app like to check the weather, and come back to the home screen and all my emails are back its very bizarre...another thing is i barely touch an app and it causes the icons to jiggle like i want to re arrange them, this has happened a few times...so just posting to see if anyone else has had these issues Macbook Mac OS X (10.5.5) iphone 8gb ,ipod touch 8gb,iphone 3g 8g
Where are contacts stored on the iPhone? Are they stored in the iPhones internal drive or do they get stored on the SIMM card like is done on other types of cel phones? When I bought my iPhone (before the 3G) I did NOT want to sync my iPhone contacts to a computer/online contact list. I wanted to keep them separate for functional/usage reasons. If I were to upgrade to the iPhone 3G will my contacts be carried from my iPhone to a iPhone 3G if I just move the SIMM card from one to the other. I would, of course make sure that my first iPhone was totally up to date on softwarebefore making the switch. Im a recent convert (only 2 weeks) from Blackberry and while I really like the iPhone and most of its features I am greatly missing some things my Blackberry could do. Could someone tell me if I just overlooked some features or if they are in the works at Apple for a future upgrade.1) cut and paste - very helpful and often necessary. I used this a lot between mail and contacts2) sorting my email messages by subject or address3) having additional folders in email - I see where there is a move feature but how do I create a folder to move messages to to organize my mail4) meeting invitations are not automatically saved to my calendar. this is very time consuming having to enter these.5) zoom on the camera - photos are much better then Blackberry though. Also no flash. Had flash with blackberry. IMAC
original iPhone, v2.1I have been using v2.1 with more than a dozen downloaded apps since v2.1 launch date. All downoaded apps had been working just fine until today. I deleted some apps and rearranged the icons. After I did that none of the remaining apps worked. I tried to launch these apps, and they would just load for few seconds and then crash to the screen. I tried power off and reset and still the same problem. I end up deleting the apps and re-download one of them, and that re-downloaded app works fine.Anyone else having this problem? today, while in my pocket, the phone started to vibrate. i took it out thinking i had a call or a text but i did not. then it started to vibrate on and off erratically again on its own. at the same time the bell (bell/crossed out bell) logo that comes on when you switch the phone to silent was flashing back and forth. this happened several times. i tried turning off vibrate cause it was getting annoying. while using the phone in several modes ( making a call, using the iPod, and using an app) the problem continued but with out the vibration. the logo kept coming and going. now when i move the silent switch it doesnt even show the bell logo.any one else have this problem?my phone is only 4 days old iBook Mac OS X (10.5.5)
Hey-I have a few questions about this iPhone. I am not a person who understands this technical stuff easily, FYI. I have a MBP which has ben in TX (I think it went) for what were called software problems 4 times the first year. I cracked the LCD, which I had to pay for, but the fist year has been real tough on my mind, my business, etc..Anyway with the phone, I never should have purchased it because my fingers are too big. I never thought I had big fingers but even entering a Contact can take some time and talk about time--putting in a web URL is a real problem. I tried a stick, pen, pin, and none of them will set the thing in motion; if you know what I mean.My questions for now, because I know how some of you can get really bitchy if I ask too many questions; are:1. If I reset and/or turn off the iPhone 3G, is this a good thing like I was told it is god to turn off the notebook? If I reset the phone (because I am already messing things up and I have no idea what I do, will this erase all the info I have entered and the stuff that transfered when I transferred y contacts with the T-Mobile SIM card?Holding down the bar button on the top of the phone for longer than if I just want it to hibernate, will turn it off. I can tell because when I turn it back on I see the gray screen, the Apple, and the swirly thing like the MBP. When I hold down the same button and push the Home button (where the circle/square is on the front/bottom of the LCD) at the same time, it resets the phone. I think I have tis right but I am not sure if resetting the phone wil erase all the info I entered or transfered.I moved my Contacts icon to the first page (after trying abut 4 times) and it made al the icons shiver together, which was a bit scary but when I turned the phone off and back on, they were all nice and still and the Contact was still on the first page.2. If it connects to the internet already, what is the purpose of the WiFi, like when I push Mail and I am near y MBP it picks up on the Airport Express WiFi and asks if it should use it? What dos it use when I am not near a WiFi but I am able to surf the internet?3. Does anybody know if there is a way to lower the sensitivity of the screen and keep the phone on longer?4. Finally, what about a case that covers the screen too? They did not have one at the AT store. Thanks!More to come. MBP, 2.4 GHz Intel C2D, 4 GB 667 MHz RAM Mac OS X (10.4.11)
Youll have to excuse the pun regarding a passing Storm... but after leaving Verizon wireless (7-yrs), experiencing significantly more dropped calls on AT&T since I jumped on the iPhone in July... I was concerned that I may have jumped the Verizon ship too soon when I heard the BlackBerry Storm was being released... so I stopped by my local Verizon store to check it out. Anticipating large crowds around the Storm, there were four kiosks displaying it with nobody around them... after attempting to navigate around this would-be iPhone Killer for 35-minutes, I discovered why...So for those AT&T BlackBerry users out there, or those BlackBerry users on other wireless carriers drooling over the Storm, dont lose any sleep. While at first-blush the Home Key and icons left the impression it would be user friendly and easy to navigate around... I learned otherwise. Simply put... while the Storm may have great BlackBerry features and an accelerator screen capability... turns out it is nothing more then a passing storm in the wave of iPhone killers... I was sadly disappointed that I could not find a reason to return to Verizon. Guess thats a compliment to my 3G iPhone... now if AT&T can reduce the number of dropped calls I have and APPLE can fix its FETCH issues... audible alerts when emails arrive and why I am sitting 2-feet from my home Wi-Fi router and my iPhone changes to EDGE when I have my Wi-Fi network selected, Ill be all set (this last one just started today). Hi,Ive done a brief search on here but cant find any postings regarding this so heres my post! After updating to firmware 2.2 Ive had SO many issues. The main issue though is that when I want to end a call, I move the handset round so I can tap on the end call button but the screen wont come alive!I cant even get any response out of the phone. I press home or the button on top of the phone and still nothing. This happens 98% of the time regardless of the call length.During the call I can often still get access to the keypad etc within the first few minutes of the call but after that its as if the phone is dead. But, at least its stopped dropping my calls! So, has anyone else experienced this since firmware update 2.2?I seriously wish Id stuck with Nokia after all the hassles and disappointments Ive had with the iPhone - please allow MMS! I have a 5yr old Nokia Smartphone that kicks my iPhones butt.Message was edited by: DaveCates iPhone 3G != smart phone Mac OS X (10.5.1)
I thought this update was going to include the Emoji icons, anyone know? I read on Engadget that they were in the update... 17" iMAC Intel Core Duo, 13" Macbook Intel Core 2 Duo Mac OS X (10.5.5) 1st Gen 8 GB iPhone, 16GB 3G iPhone, 16 GB iPod Touch
Hi, I bought an iPhone 3g at an ATT store just a few hours ago. As soon as I got it, I was unable to connect to the 3g network and access the internet but I was told that there was no 3g service in the area/mall.However, when I got back home and checked if I have 3g service in my area, it said there was. So now I tried connecting to 3g again but nothing happened. In my settings 3g is enabled but there are no icons on the top of the iPhone indicating 3g connection. I am only able to connect to the internet using WiFi.Note: When I got home and reviewed my iPhones feature plans, I saw that the $30 data plan was not part of it so I added the feature just an hour ago.Does anyone have any idea how to connect my iPhone 3g to the 3g network?
