Can someone please guide me on how an audio file from the iTunes library can be assigned to create custom SMS alerts, Alarm tones and Ringtones? I cant imagine Apple wouldve overlooked such a dead basic feature, yet it seems to be an impossibility? HP Pavilion Windows 7 iPhone 4

Im trying to sync my iPhone through iTunes but its not working. First it says something about a duplicate file. Then it says an internal device error has occured. It also sometimes says the required file cannot be found (Im trying to sync a new ringtone onto it and I have NOT moved any previously synced files).I have the latest iPhone update and the latest version of iTunes. Ive tried restoring to a back up but then that stuffs up as well. What can I do?? Asus Windows 7
Hi, Im happy with the quality of the photos that Ive taken with my IP4, but they are all a whopping 1.0 or more megs, and I cant post those on the sites I frequent on the net, which usually have a 400kb limit. Is there anything I can do to get my photo size down to something more net friendly? Thanks!
Every time that Im syncing my bookmarks some 300 .dat files are created (*.dat.*) as a bookmarks in IE, scattered around my favorites. The .dat files do not show on the iPhone just as links in IE.Does anybody know how to solve this problem?(It occured earlier: Syncing Bookmarks Creating .dat file Posted: Jul 19, 2008 7:45 AM, no solution vissible there!)Message was edited by: jgvde Sony VPCF12Z1E Windows 7
Hi,I need major help. I just recorded a ton of videos of our family trip to Disneyland on the iPhone 4 but it wont let me download it onto my Macbook. I used the almost DLSR app and neither iPhoto or Preview will allow me to download any of the video footages. I guess almost DSLR creates a different file that cant be recognized. It looks like its still a .mov file but the file must be in some other unrecognizable format. Preview gave me this error message:The operation couldnt be completed (com.apple.ImageCaptureCore error -9912)All of my iPhone 4 and iTunes is up to date. Is there anyway of just extracting the video footage via Finder? Thanks. MacBook Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Is their a technical reason for iPhone OS upgrades only being completed via iTunes. Why can they not let it occur over air, via app store or similar. I accept its a large file and on 3G it may not be a good idea for networks, but on WiFi it could work.If its due to need for iPhone back up, most people sync regularly and have back up. You could offer a warning/disclaimer to say if not done via iTunes you may risk needing to restore phone using an older back up etc?It could also force upgrade or remind less savvy users of new upgrade by push etc?Is it for iPhone handset verifcation/checks - if so, can it not be verifed via handset communication via push/WiFi link or app store etc?Any thoughts, just curious..PS - any news on 4.1 release?? My iphone crashed during the latest update and i was told that i had to restore the iphone back to its factory settings. this all works fine up to the point where it actually starts to restore (extracts file, prepares iphone then starts to restore) about a third of the way into the restore it stops doing anything, even after 2 or 3 hours its still not doing anything....help?!! i want my toy back!! So I was having so many problems with iOS4 that I decided to downgrade to 3.1.3. But after I did this, everything with my phone got wiped out!! Now I cant locate the backup file that was created. I upgraded back to 4.0.2 in the off chance that iTunes wouldnt locate the backup bc it was the older software. But alas nothing. And apparently Time Machine sync was turned off somehow, so thats of no use. Please help!!! MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.8) iPhone 3G
Hi,From time to time I have small amounts of data in Excel that I need to send from my Mac to an iPhone 4 user as fast as possible. And when I mean fast, I mean every second matters. Can anyone please tell me what would be the fastest way to send this? For instance, I assume sending an e-mail with a PDF file attachment would be slower than Instant Messaging (is that correct?). Also, the iPhone user wouldn’t necessarily be looking at his phone at that time, so he’d need to be notified very quickly. So what would be the best, fastest way?Thank you very much for your help.
Does anyone know if youre using a Remote Desk Top app (team viewer is what Im using) if you are using your data from your data package? For example if Im surfing the web on my computer via RDT on my iPhone does all of the pages I view count as data used? Or if I open a file on my computer does that use data? This is all done over 3G not wifi since thats free of course. iOS 4

Im still running os3.0 on my iphone 3G but have the upgrade file for os 3.1.3 on my macbook. If i update it via itunes, using this file, will Apple still active this update or force me to upgrade to os4.02? Iphone 3G iPhone OS 3.0
Me and my wife recently updgraded our phones to the new version of itunes 4.0.2 and it deleted all my contacts on my phone. Once the version was updated it wiped my back-up file that the contacts were listed under. Does anyone have a solution for me? Is this happening to anyone else? Dell Windows 7

I would still like to know how to extract the 4.0.1 Backup out of the 4.0.1 ipsw file after the restore back to new. The 4.0.2 upgrade removed/deleted all previous Backups but def fixed the lagging issues Ive been having. iPhone 3G iOS4 Windows 7
It took me a long time to figure out the culprit, but I finally concluded that iTunes is syncing very high quality album art to my iPhone 4, resulting in the exact same music library taking up almost 3GB more than on my 3GS. Heres how I know this: when I click on my iPhone in iTunes, the capacity bar says Audio is taking up 12.52GB, but when I go to look at the music on my iPhone, it says I only have 9.38GB of music. I do not have any podcasts, movies, audiobooks, apps, or anything - literally all thats on my phone is music files. To test my hypothesis, I jailbroke my phone to get access to the file system and looked in the folder it stores the artwork in, and lo and behold, the folder on my iPhone 4 is 3.2GB big, and the one on my 3GS is only 500MB.My question is this: is there any way to force iTunes to sync lower quality album artwork; or, failing that, is there any source I can get lower quality (say, 300x300 pixel) album artwork from? And if anyone on the iTunes development team happens to read this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an option in the next version of iTunes to convert album art to lower quality before syncing, like the recent option to convert music to 128 kbps. iPhone 4 16GB iOS 4
Hi,I was just looking through the specs for the iPhone 4 and I have a question.Does the following mean that the iPhone 4 plays HD video and that syncing an iTunes purchased TV episode means it will sync the HD version automatically to the iPhone instead of the SD version?TV and videoVideo formats supported: H.264 video up to 720p, 30 frames per second, Main Profile level 3.1 with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps per channel, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; Motion JPEG (M-JPEG) up to 35 Mbps, 1280 by 720 pixels, 30 frames per second, audio in ulaw, PCM stereo audio in .avi file formatSupport for 1024 by 768 pixels with Dock Connector to VGA Adapter; 576p and 480p with Apple Component AV Cable; 576i and 480i with Apple Composite AV Cable (cables sold separately)Regards iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.5.8) 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
iphone stuck in emergency mode after downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0?Upgraded to 4.0.2 last night. Immediately, itunes would no longer detect my iphone. Decided I had to downgrade back to 4.0 again. Learned I cannot do that easily, so i found a .ipsw file of firmware 4.0 online, and downloaded it. Started up my iphone attached to itunes in restore mode, held down shift, and clicked restore button. Successfully restored the 4.0 file I had downloaded. At the first boot, it was stuck in emergency mode. I even tried to restore the default itunes backup after that, it was still stuck in emergency mode.Anyone know how i fix this iphone? I have no interest in jailbreaks, i am in a 2 year contract with AT&T. 3G iOS 4
My problem has become the bane of my life in the past week. Ill give you the whole story in detail first and explain the problem at the bottom for those of you who just want to read on in case its a simple and obvious fix Im clearly overlooking...I bought my iPhone 4 the day it came out on O2 (UK). Ive had my Macbook since August 2007 and it was running OS X 10.4. I was also given a SIM card that I could put in my old phone and copy the contacts across and snap down into a Micro-SIM to put into my iPhone 4. Upon coming home, I found out I couldnt sync it to my Macbook because I needed a more recent version of OS X, so I decided to set it up on my mums laptop (essentially unused and brand new laptop, because she doesnt know the first thing about computer and I still have no idea why she bought it in the first place... It is running Windows 7). The iPhone started up okay and I synced a few songs Id hastily downloaded and the next day I went away for Spain for a month where I took loads of pictures, lovingly stored on my iPhone. On my return from Spain, I wanted to back up my iPhone and get some new music (as Id grown incredibly sick of the 30-odd songs Id taken away with me to sunbathe with) and save my pictures in case anything went wrong. I also wanted a fix so that I could get my iPhone to sync to my Macbook (as Im going back to University and away from mums laptop in about 3 weeks)... I managed uploaded my pictures onto facebook and my mums computer, so theyre safe (thank God!) I went to the Apple Store after reading online, and realised I had to buy the Snow Leopard Family Pack (or whatever its called, the expensive one with iLife and iWork included) and updated my Macbook yesterday, along with the other extras.I was finally ready for my iPhone to get all of my music from my iTunes that Id build up over the last few years and was eagerly waiting everything to be good in the world. I plugged my iPhone in and immediately iPhoto comes up and offers to import all of my pictures. After this I wonder why iTunes hasnt come up and do it manually. The iPhone is not there as an option, nor is it on the desktop (as was normal with my old iPods...) I followed instructions I found online, and proceeded to Reset All Settings, restart the iPhone, iTunes, try different USB ports, completely remove every lingering file of iTunes and reinstall it, make sure everything was up to date and from all of this Ive had no luck!I plugged my iPhone back into my mums laptop and restored it to factory settings. It was finally back to how it was in the beginning and I took it out and shoved it into the Macbook. This time, NOTHING. I plug it back into my mums laptop and sync it again to make sure all is okay (dont worry I had a list saved of all my apps because for some reason I thought this was the most important thing) and realised all my contacts had been deleted. This wouldnt be a problem if I hadnt leant my old phone to my brother for his trip around Europe whilst I was in Spain and it was stolen from him...SO... To conclude, after getting over the shock that I no longer have any important contacts from my year abroad in Denmark, nor my friends back here in the UK (who Ill see anyway so its not as important), and the annoyance that Ill have to create one of those annoying Facebook groups I hate asking for contact details and giving my number out to the world... I STILL cant sync my iPhone to my Macbook (10.4, upgraded to 10.6.3) which has cost me not only the cost of an iPhone I dont wish to use in its current state, but ≈£130 for the OS upgrade, and an additional £100 for the new external hard-drive to make sure everything was backed up nicely before I performed the update.PLEASE HELP ME, Im all out of things to try!!xxx Macbook Mac OS X (10.6.3) (Originally Tiger, Updated to Snow Leopard)

I have the iPhone 4 and no problems with the phone or iTunes until now. I opened iTunes and it was blank so I reconnected iTunes to the proper files, however, it doesnt show my apps and it doesnt recognize my iPhone. Ive only synced to one computer and dont know how to get it to re-recognize the proper iphone files. Any suggestions? iMac Intel Mac OS X (10.6.2)

When I control + click, Restore from back up.. on my iphone from the device list in itunes, it just lists a backup from earlier this year, another from Aug. 2009, and a couple from today. I used time machine to back up my macbook 3 days ago. Is there a way to go into time machine and get the back up file(s) from the last time I backed up my iphone around that time? Thanks in advance. I tried to restore my 3G from a recent backup, but when I try the restore from backup option (right clicking the phone) or a full firmware reset and restore from there, nothing is getting transferred back over. I tried both several times and no luck.I was worried the backup didnt have the info, but when I viewed it with the iPhone Backup Extractor program, I can see that all my contacts, photos, SMS history, etc. is all in the backup file I created. I even tried a restore from a backup for a different iPhones backup and that worked just fine, but this backup wont read.I know I could extract the files so I have them, but I really just want all the settings and items restore to the phone since restoring settings, SMS history, call history, etc. seems to only be possible by jailbreaking and I dont want to do that. Is there any other way to get iTunes to properly restore my info from this backup file???
I recently updated my 3G phone to OS4. Updating went fine but the phone would not restore. I had to abort and update and reset the phone as new. I lost all data since my last sync. I did however copy and have an old backup file from a previous month, before updating. Is there anyway to get data out of this backup file and put it back on my phone? Could I delete the backup in iTunes now and replace it with the file I had saved to an external drive, then backup so I can offload data somehow? Thanks in advance for any help. HP DV 6000 iOS 4
I have a new iPhone, but during initial setup I did not restore from a backup but chose to do a clean setup. Now I want to move my SMS text messages stored in the old iPhone to my new iPhone. I moved all of my Camera Roll photos that were visible when the iPhone was plugged in into the iPhoto folder that is specifically set-up to be the folder that syncs to the iPhone pictures. iPhoto sees all of the photos and the item count is correct. However, when I sync I get a red alert that says The iPhone Theo Glucks iPhone cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found.Uh...what might that file be and how can I find it? I think that iTunes 9.2.1 may make it harder to follow LifeHackers Link: instructions to downgrade my iPhone 3G from iOS 4 to iOS 3.1.3. I ran into a little problem under Step 3, after I went into recovery mode. It says to go into iTunes and:...make sure youve clicked the iPhone under the Devices sidebar in iTunes, then hold Shift and click the Restore button (if youre on OS X, Alt/Opt+Click). iTunes will pop up a window prompting you to choose a file. But when I do this, the only options I get are to eject and open in a new window. Im wondering if I dont get the option to choose a file because I upgraded iTunes to 9.2.1 and the LifeHacker article was written before that upgrade. If so, do I have to downgrade my iTunes before I downgrade my iPhone? MacBook Pro iOS 4
Well, this is my first post on the forum, which i am quite new, but after reading the same issues with the iPhone 3g OS4 update that i have i thought its time to speak my mind on here, rather than making severe complaints over the home landline to the Apple Support team, with the same old question they ask have you tried restoring your phone? with my answer being YES, about 5 times daily! LOLNow i have been a keen Apple user for the last 4 years, being a professional photographer using my Macbook Pro and iMac are quite the tools i need, with no problems ever (touch of wood), until... my iPhone decided to die after 1 year of purchase when the IOS4 came out. Yes... my phone is the slowest thing i own sad to say! It is extremely painful to navigate around. Put it this way... my phone took about 6 minutes to just open 1 text message i received, in which i went to make a cup of coffee and to my surprise when i came back, it was still trying to open the message! The iOS4 software has killed MY 3G, and getting it back to a previous version is quite the mission too. What makes things even worse is when i back up and sync my 3G, iTunes decides to tell me that a file is missing on my iPhone to complete the sync! I ask why? What is going on? So, each and every time my phone becomes slow and sluggish, a system restore and several resets have been made. When i do this, half of the contacts that are on my iPhone are viewable, and half are not! Emails pop up... from months back that i have deleted, and i am talking thousands of them! When scrolling through my apps, or even just to get to the messages or Facebook, my apps vanish, and YouTube is stuck down the left side of my phone only showing half an app button! The list goes on and on, and for a while this is something i have had to put up with. I make back ups all the time, just to be safe, but it is quite the boredom to put back together when i have made a restore. I think what i am trying to say is my iPhone is useless, sad to say really Oh... did i mention my iPhone likes to turn off at random moments, not just in a call... but when on charge plugged into the mains? Is this a way for Apple to make their 3G and possibly the 3Gs customers upgrade to the 4?Are Apple actually looking into these problems? Makes me wonder...If anyone has a solution that does not involve jailbreaking or holding a hammer over the 3G ready for some destruction, please by all means, help all of us 3G users out.
Hi;Is there a method to convert/export SMS messages to a text file? I noticed there are some PC files out there that do this. Is there an equivalent Mac app that would do this function?thanks;J. iMac 24" 2.33 CD2 Mac OS X (10.5.2) 3GB RAM, Logic 8, Digi 002r, Korg MicroKontrol
I know the obvious answer is to use contacts, but this contact list is for a large organization that Im part of, and I dont need all of this information in my contacts. But I find that Id like to be able to call or email some of these people sometimes from my iPhone. I have the list as a PDF in eBooks, but its not clickable or easy to use that way. Im not even sure if I can copy/paste the info. I have the Yellow pages app and its really nice to be able to click on a phone number and iPhone calls it. So this is what Id like to create - some kind of file (PDF? text? XML?) that I can share with everyone that iPhones can act on for emails and phone numbers. I have Word and Excel versions of this contact file.Thank you!Carolyn iPhone 4 iOS 4
After hearing that the white iPhone 4 will not be available anytime soon, I finally decided I cant fukcing bear ios4 on my 3G any longer and want to downgrade back to ios3.N.B. Ive been following this method:http://lifehacker.com/5572003/how-to-downgrade-your-iphone-3g%5Bs%5D-from-ios-4-to-ios-313However, the new iTunes 9.2.1 update seems to make this more difficult. At the stage where you option-click the Restore button to choose which IOS restore file you want to use, it no longer works.Apples description of the iTunes update seems to confirm this:-Addresses an issue upgrading to iOS 4 on an iPhone or iPod touch with encrypted back-upsDoes anyone know a way around this yet? Heres the situation:1) Currently i have a damaged PSU/motherboard PC with my recent iphone3G backup in it.2) Just got back my laptop(Win Vista) yesterday frm servicing and made a backup of my iphone3G in the laptop. BUT i cant find the backup file. Ive looked up the support section for the location of the backup file, and still cant locate it. Am i able to use this backup although the primary computer i used for syncing is my PC.3) Does the backup file contains all the Apps that i d/led and able to transfer em to the iphone4? If not, is there an alternative way other than writing down the app names on a piece of paper and then re-download again.Lets say in no.1, its my motherboard thats damaged and i gotta overhaul my PC, but with my previous HDD being used, am i able to get back my iphone3G backup? All in all, i would want to have all the apps, contacts, info, SMS, photos, etc thats on my iphone3G being backed up and then use it for my new iphone4 when its launched this week. Your answers/opinions/suggestions/solutions are all GREATLY APPRECIATED!Thank you in advance Windows XP Pro 5G Black iPod 30GB, iPhone 3G

My computer has a a virus/worm that spreads via removable drives, such as USB memory sticks called iuhi64.exe If i connect a usb memory stick it will create a file in it so that it can spread to another computer if i ever connect that memory stick to another computer. Ive connected my iphone to my computer before so i was wondering if the virus is now stored in my iphone aswell. The reason why i want to know is because im removing the virus from my computer now and i wouldnt like it if the next time i connect my iphone to the computer the computer gets the virus again because it was hidden in my iphone or something. So i was wondering isit possible something like this e hidden in my iphone? If yes, how would i remove it? Pc iPhone OS 3.1.3 Pc
I managed to get iOS4 working on my 3g with no speed problems.Solution, I performed a factory restore from iTunes with the latest 4.0.1 update. The down side of this is I have lost my SMS history, Contacts History and desktop icons and favourites. I was able to select apps to reinstall from my iTunes after the update.I managed to backup my photos first with iPhone Explorer ( Google it ) as the phone was not showing the DCIM folder anymore after iTunes 9.2 update.I would imagine the iPhones file system format has changes from 3.x to 4.x and have noticed less file permission errors etc with the Apple iPhone Configuration Utility (that allowed me to view live debug messages from the iPhone. It would be nice if Apple released a fix to improve the issues though.I am still mad with Apple for ignoring this problem and will not buy another iPhone. 3G iOS 4
I have been spending hours, and hours, trying to figure out what happened to this phone. I upgraded to os4, and when I did, I lost everything (contacts, texts, pics, apps, etc.), eventhough I backed up everything on a weekly basis. Not sure where Apple dropped the ball on this major issue. I have been looking for hours to find a fix. I came across a post that was helpful in finding a way to solve some of my problems, including FINDING MY LOST CONTACTS! I have to manually enter them into my phone again, but at least I have them! Like, me I am sure many of you dont memorize phone numbers anymore. I have just added to a post I found by Somebody2 on another forum (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11831613), as a starter, and added to it, to give more specific directions. I am extremely thankful; to have found this! I am still looking to find a way to get back my lost pictures, but that may be a lost cause. Hopefully this can help some of you out there, like it did me(....sigh of relief). Anyway, here is a way to find those lost contacts and texts:Here are the main steps, assuming that you did backup your iPhone using iTunes recently:1. Use the following tutorial to install FireFox with SQLite Manager add-in and point it to your backup folder:http://www.skyontech.com/blog/iPhone-app-data-access (**when following these directions, make a copy of the backup folder, and paste it on your desktop to make the overall process a little easier)**2. Once you have opened SQLite, Click on the options (hammer/screwdriver icon) at the top. Change the Default file extension for SQLite files to mddata then click OK. Next, Click on the word Directory at the top, just under the menu bar. Then select choose Select default directory. Choose the most recent folder inside the backup folder you copied to the desktop, then click OK. **3. Now the more time consuming part (took me at least 30 minutes). Beside the word Directory you can now choose files from a drop down menu. The easiest way I found to do this is to click on the 1st one, then click go. You can continue down the list using the arrow key, and click go each time you go to a new file... As you do this, you will see the left side change. Sometime it has nothing (No directory found), and other times there is a list of menus (master table, tables, views, indexes, triggers). I found mine in the 38...range out of the hundreds of files.**4. Continue to go through the files until you see ABGroup under the tables menu as an options (it does not show up under the master table menu, just under tables).5. Once you have found ABGroup, Click on the Execute SQL tab in the SQLite Manager and copy/paste the following:====================SELECT First, Last, Organization, Note, value as Phone FROM ABPerson, ABMultiValue WHERE ABMultiValue.property=3 AND ROWID=record_id ORDER BY First====================Then click Run SQL button. You should now see the list of all contacts backed up from your iPhone. You can also highlight all rows with the mouse and the SHIFT key, then right-click and select Copy Rows as CSV for Excel, then paste them to Excel so that you can print your contacts spreadsheet.NOTE: You can do the same thing for finding text messages. The only difference, is that you want to look for the word message under the tables menu instead of abgroup.I have never posted here, but this was a HUGE help to me, so I thought I would try to share a more detailed way to get these back. I know its not easy, but IT WORKS!! I am so relieved, and thanks a lot Somebody2!!!! If anyone knows how to recover lost pictures, even if it is a process like this, please, please, please post it. A friend recently sent me an email link using messages, on my iphone 4, so I can send pictures using regular mail using my iPhone 4. When I clicked on the blue hyperlink containg the email address within messages, it opened up mail which it is supposed to do so I might be able to send a text or pictures. What the problem is no keyboard appeared so I can compose a message or attach a file. Can anyone offer a fix or might be having the same problem?? IPhone 4 iOS 4 VM WARE FUSION
I backed up my iphone a few hours ago (making it my most recent backup), and now I am trying to restore another iphone with that same backup file. I can see it in my preferences/devices on iTunes, but when I choose restore from backup I do not get that specific backup file as an option to restore with. How do I restore my iphone to that certain backup? iPhone OS 3.1.2
Im contemplating back-restoring my 3G to v3.1.3, and so need the ipsw file. I heard that the v4.x installer puts previous versions to Trash - so long gone. No probs, I have Firewire drive Time Machine backup going back to last September - Ill just get it from there. When I go to ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates on my iMac today, I see the v4.0.1 ipsw, so using that folder as a starting point I go into Time Machine backup to May - prior to the June iOS4. Nothing there! The whole iPhone Software Updates folder is not there in the enclosing iTunes folder - all the way back to last year, gone!In fact, in that iTunes folder, the iTunes Carrier Support and iTunes Plugins folders are the only ones that go back all the way.The other folders only go back to: iPhone Software Updates (today 20July - just installed iTunes 9.2.1), iPod Software Updates (today, 20July) and Mobile Backups (22June) - prior versions are all gone FROM THE TIME MACHINE BACKUPS!Am I being paranoid about conspiracies? You judge: I made a clone of my iMac on 22/April - and the iTunes Library folder in there contains the iPhone Software Updates folder (with my v3.1.3 ipsw), iPod Software Updates folder, plus the carrier support and plugins folders. The same date in my TM backup only has the carrier support and plugins folders there. This clone has iTunes 9.1 on it.I also have a separate Deja Vu backup to yet another drive - and make a weekly backup of my Library folder. It has all my ipsw v3 and v4 files in it!So has the upgrading to iTunes 9.2/9.2.1 for iOS4.x also erased all previously saved backups of iPhone and iPod/Touch ipsw files from the attached Time Machine backup?? Or maybe theyre secretly excluded from TM to prevent downgrading? 3G iOS 4 10.6.4
Hello everyone, Im new to this Discussion Board Ive been an iPhone 3GS 32GB user for over a year now, and I decided to make an account here and start this topic, because Ive got a really serious problem... As the topic title can give you a hint on what is going on, let me describe everything in detail:Not so long ago I had upgraded my iPhone with iOS 4.0 to 4.0.1 (I did that 1 day after the official release of the new version). 2 days ago, when I wanted to make a call, I came across an issue manifesting itself by iPhone nearly instantly showing Call ended and later on Call failed, consecutively. It was happeninng so, regardless of whom I wanted to call. Whats noticable is that I could send and receive text messages, as well as receive incoming calls, without any problems. Making some research on the Internet, I found out that similar issues had been occurring with the earlier versions of the OS. None of the solutions described (turning off the automatic date and time setting and so on) didnt help me, as well as turning the iPhoone on and off, trying to get into the DFU mode, and downgrading to iOS 4.0 (I couldnt downgrade anyway) which didnt help either. Not knowing what to do next, I restored my iPhone to the factory settings, losing, as obvious, all apps, text messages, contacts etc. along the way. After this restore I was able to make outgoing cals again but wanting to have all my text messages I decided to load the newest backup onto my iPhone, and see what would happen. After loading the backup, I had all my contest back again but I was also again unable to make outgoing calls... (this proved that the issue was caused by some saved iPhone settings, or something similar, but not the iOS version itself). In this case I had nothing else to do, but to get back to the factory settings once again. As I cared abot keeping all my text messages, I read on the Internet the the way to save them is to copy the file called 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28 from the backup folder. In the next step you were supposed to make a backup of the phone restored to the factory settings, and overrite the file in that backup with the onee you had copied earlier (to spare myself any problems, I also copied the 31bb7ba8914766d4ba40d6dfb6113c8b614be442 file with the contacts). The problem turned out to be the fact that in the guide about all these files, there wasnt mentioned any information that you also should copy the following files: Info.plist, Manifest.plist i Status.plist (unfortunately, I found out about this fact later). I ompletely lost the rest of these files be deleting folders with the previous backup. So now, when I put the files I had copied earlier to the folder with the new backup, I am presented with this kind prompt while trying to restore: iTunes cannot restore iPhone (XXX) because some files from the archive couldnt be restored (or something similar because, since I hahe the Polish version of iTunes installed, Im not sure how it is put in the original literally). Ive tried to restore these *.plist files with some file recovery tools. These tools do find these files from the same day (that is, the 18th), but they differ from each oter by the time they were last modified (some are from 12:19A.M., others from 3:20P.M.), as well as the differ from the 2 files I had copied by the same manner. I assume that these differences in time (as well as in checksums that I found out about) cause the backup to not be seen by iTunes when I put these revovered *.plist (along with the 2 files that I had copied) in the backup folder. The same result occurrs when I recover these files with the long names the same way I had recovered the *.plist files, and put them in the folder with these *.plist files.I cant deny that I would really like to have all my text messages back.... Does anyoneone know how to import them back on the iPhone from that 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28 file, because Im getting really frustrated here I read it could be achieved by checking the *.plist files checksums if iTunes doesnt want to restore a backup the normal way. If this is the only way to do it (or if there are any other work arounds), please guide me on how to do it. I really need help Intel based PC Windows 7 The PC OS is Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit
I heard that the problem is from downloading apps by using my phone instead of using iTunes, and there is a procedure for fixing an error file, or something. Anyone know about this?(Ive already deleted all my photos from my phone and have reset the backup file under devices and neither worked to unfreeze the backup.) Id like to upgrade to the new OS4, but I cant get past the backup. HP
