HelloI will try not to post a wall of text but I have several questions about how to use certain features in the iphone that, having tried an Android device for several months before moving over; are confusing me.1) If I get a text message from someone who is not in my phone book and then I decide to add them to it. How do I do this? In Android I could highlight the number and choose add to Contacts but I see no such option in iphone; am I missing something?2) I have had an issue with receiving previews of text messages when the phone is idle/locked or on the dock. Most of the time, I want ot see this preview so I can read it without opening it, but other times, Im sent an image or a video clip and both just show up and display--when my phone is unattended. I dont like this. I attempted to turn Preview off to resolve it but then I cant ready text previews. Is there any way to distinguish between MMS and SMS?3) the text in safari on some pages is too large. How can I adjust down the size of the text so its not so big? Ive tried pinch to zoom or whatever but this doesnt work on certain pages.4) The default alert ringers/sounds that come with the phone are relatively bland. How can I change them? Honestly, it was difficult to do this even on my previous phone; so just wondering if its any easier on the iphone.5) If the phone was locked/idle and I get an incoming call; my only option seems to be slide to answer with no decline option. Am I missing something? I am aware that i can hit one of the side buttons to silence the ring/vibrate but am I really stuck waiting for the phone to finish ringing/go to voice mail before I can use the phone again?5) Will FaceTime calls continue to be interrupted by other phone calls that come in? lost access to iphone 3g as drive

Since I first plugged in my iphone 3g a couple of months ago into my windows 7 machine, it instantly shows up just like USB drive in my file explorer. Today after very much struggle, I installed the iOS 4.0 update and the phone no longer shows up in that way. I never did any modifications or bought any apps to be able to access it like a drive in windows. It just did it. Is there any way to restore this function? Ive searched a lot but to no avail. My update went fine, but when I went to make a phone call, all I had was numbers in my favorites and recents. All my contacts were deleted. *** Apple? I'm on AT&T, After upgrading to 4.0 lost mms and safari. To my surprice I wasn't the only one Having issues...Ha! So AT&T Cust Serv gave me a solution. Restore iphone as NEW(check your mms and safari)then Sync Your apps One By One, When You finish sync all apps turn OFF iphone then ON.(check again your mms and safari)Finally sync the rest of your stuff...This worked for my iphone 3G. I have a Mophie external case/charger that no longer charges the iphone 3G (iOS4 just installed).I also have an external power pack MMP5000 that no longer charges the iphone 3G (iOS4 just installed too). I only used this to add up to 7 hours for long road or plane trips. antenna issues plaguing iphone 4 fix

I think I found the problem with the iphone 4 antenna issues. This is what I did to fix my problem. I found by taking out the micro sim out and making sure that the metal doesnt touch the plastic tray it works. Make sure it is centre in the plastic tray and the metal doesnt touch the plastic tray edge. I fix my in 10 mintues and now I dont have any drop calls even if I put my hand all over the phone. No bar lost too. If it doesnt work for you might need to change you micro sim card. Because its not connecting inside of the iphone right. I lost my 3GS but still had my 3G.I tried to restore the last saved restoration from my 3GS to my 3G. Its asking me for a password. I tried my phone password and my itunes password but neither work.I can restore the old 3G settings and it doesnt ask me for a password...What is this password thing??? Hi-I have iphone 3G and when I loaded iTunes today, it showed an alert saying I should upgrade to i0S4. I clicked ok but then it showed an alert saying that it was going to backup and restore apps, text messages, contacts, etc. Because I was not sure what this meant, I clicked cancel. Does this mean that its going to erase all of my data?? I have read other posts online from users saying that they lost their information/apps when updating to iOS4 but I am not sure if this was due to clicking ok on that alert or not.Please let me know if this will preserve all my data on the phone and if I should upgrade to iOS4 or not. Its been a week since the OS4 update now, and my 3G is pretty unusable. Ive lost all my data and my phone wont restore or sync, so I have no contacts, no email, no messages and empty apps. My phone is behaving weirdly too, I keep getting texts through in a block rather than when they are sent. Ive been waiting patiently for a solution to be posted, or a new update that will help everyone that seems to be affected. Im really fed up with it now. Just wondering if anyone has heard whether or not they are actually doing something about this problem.If Ive lost my data, I can live with that, but my phone was fantastic a week ago and now its useless. Yesterday after connecting my iphone to my computer I was prompted to an iOS 4 Update. I agreed to do the install and it appeared as if iTunes was syncing and backing up my information from my iphone. However, after the install it did not place all my backedup information as it did in previous updates. it appears iTunes did not back up my information at all. Like many people, I have been experiencing issue upgrading to the OS4 on my 3G.During the last (4th) attempt it seemed to the upgrade, but my data was blown away. I did attempt to do a back up, but I dont know why/how to get it to restore off of that. If it doesnt prompt me is there another way? I only see the option for a full factory restore.I was able to retrieve my photos but lost all contacts, text messages, notes, and App data stored in my phone. I dont know why I upgraded my 3G (8GB) iphone without consulting this forum. I upgraded overnight to find an error that I cant recall. When it was over I lost all of my contacts - about 150 of them - and I was unable to receive voice messages. Now, my phone is completely dead. No, it is not a dead battery. The icon that indicates that the phone needs to be charged doesnt even come on. When I try to charge it on my computer, the phone is not recognized. The screen is completely black. Itunes wont transfer music after upgrade to OS4 iphone 3G

After hours of problems upgrading to to OS4 I thought that everything was okay. Emails, twitter, calender, etc. transfer okay but I lost my music in the backup. iTunes performed a backup for about 12 hours when I tried to install the new os4. After the installation was completed, it asked me to type the password for the backup to be restored. What password? I hadnt entered any password for the backup. So I went to the apps tabs and restored the apps. Then I tried to restore again and BIG SURPRISE, the 12 hour backup was no more there. No incoming email alerts on 3G with OS4 iphone

The OS4 upgrade has effectively destroyed a fast and effective phone. The upgrade lost all my notes and email settings and some of my apps. The phone is now dreadfully slow. Also, email is no longer received automatically and consequently I get no incoming mail alerts. I have to start Mail and go into the Inbox which then triggers a send and receive. Hello,I have an iphone 3g and recently upgraded to IOS 4.0. As many others on this forum have mentioned, it is a horrible user-experience. My battery life drains MUCH faster (I used to be able to get through at least 12 hours...now I am luck if I make through 8). Every built-in functionality of the phone has slowed to an unbearable crawl (opening the calendar goes blank for a few seconds before it refreshes, texting, email, safari, iPod, etc). Apple, this is UNACCEPTABLE. Please provide us with a solution to downgrade my phone back to 3.1.3 since you clearly did not test this for 3G users. I do not want to follow instructions on a random website to downgrade...Apple needs to provide this to its customers.My 2-year contract is up on July 17, 2010, and depending on how Apple responds to this problem / complaint, you may earn another 2 years from me or lose me to another smartphone (I may upgrade to iphone 4 or go with another option like the HTC Incredible on Verizon). Unable to send picture MMS since updating to OS4 iphone

Ever since I installed OS4 on my iphone 3GS I have lost the option of sending picture messages. What 3G users need to before upgrading to OS 4.0 possible fixes iphone

Hey Everyone,I purchased my iphone 3G back on February 1st, so I am only about 5 months into my first/new contract with At&T. That being said, I wished I had sprung for the extra $100 on the 3Gs due to the following complications you should all be aware of. If you are going to update to the OS 4.0 on a 3G phone you need to be aware that because of the phones processing power, backup restores have a 10% chance of actually restoring to the phone. This backup includes contacts, voice memos, call data, voice mail, etc. (the 10% figure is a ballpark figure based on the few whom have had luck)More than likely when you upgrade to the OS 4.0 you will not be able to restore backup information as mentioned above. I am not sure why this happens, but the best idea I can come up with is that the backup files somehow become corrupted. This could be due to a number of things: Itunes 9.2 is not installed properly, Bonjour is interfering, the copy of the OS 4.0 file was somehow corrupted in downloading (its possible due to the number of iphone owners downloading the software at the same time), activation servers could be lagging, your phone was not properly ejected/disconnected properly from last backup, iTunes could have a unknown bug interfering with the upgrade, as well as many other scenarios I could post here.I spent nine hours trying to get the OS 4.0 onto this device using my backup info. After it was all done and said, I realized that was never going to be possible. My phone too did the cycle of being stuck in restore mode. This was solved by simultaneously holding down the power and home button, waiting for the apple logo to appear and immediately taking my finger off the power buttun and still holding home until the sync cable image appears. (the hold time for this varies from 7-20 seconds)From here I repeated the update process and instead decided to restore as a new iphone. I lost all my information except my apps. So, some tips if you decide to upgrade the OS.#1 - somehow back up your contacts via pen and paper or some other method that works best for you. Email suits like Outlook can be used to back these up (how I am not sure, but it is possible.)#2 - make a copy of the iTunes folder of your applications (right click Applications folder>click copy> and paste somewhere else like your desktop as a back up, JUST IN CASE IT DOES NOT SYNC YOUR APPS THE FIRST TIME.) Depending on the number of apps, this can take up space temporarily, so make sure you can accommodate the temporary copy. (the copied apps folder can just be deleted after youve finished)#3 - back up any photos or video on your phone via email or syncing them into your iTunes, and copying the files to another part of your computer. (This is what we call a better safe than sorry scenario)#4 - once you have your info and collections backed up if possible, erase them off of the phone manually. This frees up update time and makes a smoother faster update.#5 - Go ahead and retry the update or attempt the update at your own disclosure. Remember, you will have to set the restore to a NEW iphone, not the back up.This is the method that worked for me. I will note that the phone sometimes lags, keyboard entries lag at times, but otherwise it looks nice. Very few new features, but its enough for a taste to make you want a newer model. Yesterday I thought I lost all my applications and data from my iphone. Turns out I am not allowed to use more than 5 computers for synchronizing. 3 of them no longer exist, one is a virtual machine (where itunes is literally unusable - is it a surprise), and one I tried to use is a regular home desktop. Can anyone tell me why I can not sync or backup my iphone through any of my 6th, 12th, 28th, or whatever number of computers at home? Just installed OS 4 but its wiped everything iphone 3G

I just downloaded itunes 9.2 and installed it to update my 3g to iOS 4, everything went as planned and it said it was backing up my data before it updated to the new software, then when it had finished i had lost all data from my apps and even worse i have lost all of my contacts, so i went looking for a previous backup but it wasnt in the usual mobilesync folder, i did find a 3.1.3 restore ispw which i guess will contain my contacts but when i try to restore from this file i get an error message at the end of the process. Network lost iphone

I have been suffering from a box appearing with Network lost on a very frequent basis on my iphone(I am with o2). It says your selected cellular network is no longer available. You can choose a different network in settings. Any idea what is causing this and how to fix it? At about the same time my iphone e mail started to malfunction, when I try to send an e mail and it places it in the outbox and says the recipient was rejected by the server. Also only some e mails I receive are picked up by the iphone and then difficult, in fact near impossible to delete. Is there a connection between the two issues? Help please!!! HP G70

This worked on my 3G under ios 4.0, but not on my new iphone 4. Anyone else see this....Bookmark a web page (cnn, msnbc is what Im trying to do), save the bookmark to your home screen. This might just seem like a silly mistake on my part, but its not, heres what happened:Updated to iOS 4, it said that it backed up fine. Then turned on my iphone 3G, my apps are on there, but without any personal information (texts, contacts, email accounts etc. gone).I want to restore from backup, except the only backup I have is one that iTunes JUST CREATED of this blank iphone, which overwrote the useful one.Am I right in presuming that theres nothing I can do about that..? So i left my iphone in my home office last night while it was updating, which took several hours BTW, and went to bed. I woke up this morning to a phone with zero music on it, but iOS4 was installed. So i click on the music link in iTunes and theres nothing there. NOTHING. So i clicked on my G drive where i keep all my iTunes library (external drive) and cant find any of my recent downloads (about 20 different albums over last two months). How has this happened??? I cant find the albums anywhere i look. Total nightmare (please spare me the backup lecture, point taken). The irony is, i wasnt even going to upgrade as im waiting for Thursday to have a completely fresh experience with the new iphone 4. I hope to the Gods I can recover this lost music somehow.Also, my ringers dont ring when i get calls or texts, and i have no keyboard clicks. Epic FAIL of an upgrade. iphone 3G iphone OS 3.1.2

How to restore iphone 3G after iOS4 update

So you upgraded to OS4 and lost all messages etc. ?If you are on Mac use Time Machine and restore the iTunes Backup folder.Some other guy posted a message with How to...If you are in Windows Vista or Windows 7 use Previous Versions and restore the folder:C:UsersnameAppDataRoamingApple ComputerMobileSyncBackupThen use Restore function in iTunes.I dont know why but iTunes just erases this folder after upgrade to newer version. Restoring back up fine on iphone 3G

I need to restore a back up on my iphone 3G, I had some important photos in the camera roll (not in iPhoto on my MBP) that had gotten lost after I did a restore (when I finally unlocked the device from my carrier) a few months ago. Unfortunately I didnt transfer those pics to iPhoto prior restore.I wonder if it is possible now to get that back up, reinstall it and then transfer the photos to my iPhoto app in my MBP.
