Hi,I seem to be having the well-documented dead zone problem with my iphone 3G that involves a touch screen dead zone on the phone.The bottom 15-20% of the screen is dead which doesnt allow me to access any of the favorite 4 icons at the bottom of my screen (SMS, Email, safari and Ipod).I found the Apple Support Document TS1827, but cleaning under my screen protector, restarting, etc. did not work. I tried the calculator and regardless of the orientation of the phone, the dead zone remains dead. My phone is extremely well protected and I am very careful about taking care of it, so this is a very dismaying problem.Any suggestions as to what I can do?Note: I have a Genius Bar appointment for later today, but was hoping someone could help me figure out what is wrong before then.Thank you. I cant restore iphone archive because certain file unrestorable

Hello everyone, Im new to this Discussion Board Ive been an iphone 3GS 32GB user for over a year now, and I decided to make an account here and start this topic, because Ive got a really serious problem... As the topic title can give you a hint on what is going on, let me describe everything in detail:Not so long ago I had upgraded my iphone with iOS 4.0 to 4.0.1 (I did that 1 day after the official release of the new version). 2 days ago, when I wanted to make a call, I came across an issue manifesting itself by iphone nearly instantly showing Call ended and later on Call failed, consecutively. It was happeninng so, regardless of whom I wanted to call. Whats noticable is that I could send and receive text messages, as well as receive incoming calls, without any problems. Making some research on the Internet, I found out that similar issues had been occurring with the earlier versions of the OS. None of the solutions described (turning off the automatic date and time setting and so on) didnt help me, as well as turning the iPhoone on and off, trying to get into the DFU mode, and downgrading to iOS 4.0 (I couldnt downgrade anyway) which didnt help either. Not knowing what to do next, I restored my iphone to the factory settings, losing, as obvious, all apps, text messages, contacts etc. along the way. After this restore I was able to make outgoing cals again but wanting to have all my text messages I decided to load the newest backup onto my iphone, and see what would happen. After loading the backup, I had all my contest back again but I was also again unable to make outgoing calls... (this proved that the issue was caused by some saved iphone settings, or something similar, but not the iOS version itself). In this case I had nothing else to do, but to get back to the factory settings once again. As I cared abot keeping all my text messages, I read on the Internet the the way to save them is to copy the file called 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28 from the backup folder. In the next step you were supposed to make a backup of the phone restored to the factory settings, and overrite the file in that backup with the onee you had copied earlier (to spare myself any problems, I also copied the 31bb7ba8914766d4ba40d6dfb6113c8b614be442 file with the contacts). The problem turned out to be the fact that in the guide about all these files, there wasnt mentioned any information that you also should copy the following files: Info.plist, Manifest.plist i Status.plist (unfortunately, I found out about this fact later). I ompletely lost the rest of these files be deleting folders with the previous backup.So now, when I put the files I had copied earlier to the folder with the new backup, I am presented with this kind prompt while trying to restore: iTunes cannot restore iphone (XXX) because some files from the archive couldnt be restored (or something similar because, since I hahe the Polish version of iTunes installed, Im not sure how it is put in the original literally). Ive tried to restore these *.plist files with some file recovery tools. These tools do find these files from the same day (that is, the 18th), but they differ from each oter by the time they were last modified (some are from 12:19A.M., others from 3:20P.M.), as well as the differ from the 2 files I had copied by the same manner. I assume that these differences in time (as well as in checksums that I found out about) cause the backup to not be seen by iTunes when I put these revovered *.plist (along with the 2 files that I had copied) in the backup folder. The same result occurrs when I recover these files with the long names the same way I had recovered the *.plist files, and put them in the folder with these *.plist files.I cant deny that I would really like to have all my text messages back.... Does anyoneone know how to import them back on the iphone from that 3d0d7e5fb2ce288813306e4d4636395e047a3d28 file, because Im getting really frustrated here I read it could be achieved by checking the *.plist files checksums if iTunes doesnt want to restore a backup the normal way. lost Ipod Remote Bluetooth stability slow and phone reboots with IOS43G iphone

I just recently downloaded the 4.0.1 updated hoping it woud fix many of the issues I had after installing IOS4.0. Since installing the OS I have lost (I have verified these same issues on my wifes phone so it is not HW specific) the following functionality with my 3G:1) I can no longer start my Ipod from the remote clicker on my head phones. If the IPOD applicaton is running it will start and stop fine, but it used to start playing music even if the IPOD app wasnt active. 2) Bluetooth seems very instable. I have had it disconnect occasionally during calls but can restore the connection if I select the device again.3) several applications take a very long time to load. If we dont reboot our phones avery 5-7 days, eventualy text and other applications will crash on launch until I reboot. THen the phone is snappy again for about a day. (memory leak??)4) 3 times on my phone and 2 times on my wifes phone while usingit (all three of mine have been using the built in text message app) The phone has re-booted (more than 50% full battery) I erased my text message history and no improvement/change.5) Google Maps takes forever to show my location on the map and initial guesses at my location seem to be off by 100s of miles (before it would narrow in on my location over the first 10 seconds, but it now takes 30-40 seconds and seems to not even know which side of the city I am on anymore...)A few other things but not sure how repeatable they are, but the experience so far has been very frustrating... I have heard of other issues with IOS4, but havent seen some of these issues. And now my questions..A) Is there a way to downgrade to 3.1.3 or other via I-tunes (dont want to jailbrake the phone) or know if/when and update will be available to address some of these issues? B) Is the iphone4 having similar issues (or is this 3g specfic)?C) Any tips to fixing any of these issues? HELP iphone 3G

I just followed the Apple instructions for iOS4. In the middle of it, the found new hardware message came up and then said it was restoring my original data. I DONT WANT the original data, I want all the stuff Ive added. Now for the past 1.5 hrs, the phone just has a picture of a CD with a blue music note in the middle of it. Below the pic it says Itunes. It has a picture of the end of the white cable pointing toward the picture of the cd. Below that it has slide for emergency in every language imaginable. I just want my phone back! WARNING iphone 3G users

I just upgraded to the New 4.0 It warned me that I would lose my songs, but it did not warn me that I would lose all of my sub folders in my photo section. But I got to keep all the junk in my camera roll. Ive upgraded before and there was no problem with keeping my sub folders. I lost alot of important and irreplacable photos. And for what? So my email accounts can be joined???? What other features can I get???? You have no list I can find that shows a list of features the 4.0 gives the 3G. Only a list of what you cant offer. Worthless. I´ve read a lot of posts from people who have lost their contacts and messages when updating to os4. I did too and paniced but the solution is pretty simple. Turn the phone off and then turn it back on. A progress bar will indicate the restore process and when finished all will be as before with the new os. I upgraded my iphone 3G software to the iOS4 last week. Since then I have been having the following problems:Email notifications have stopped completely. When typing text messages, the text is very sluggish (cannot keep up with the speed at which I am entering the characters).safari is terribly slow on 3G.Apps take longer to fire up.App store takes FOREVER to fire up.Settings, iTunes, and accessing text messages also takes a few seconds longer than usual to access.I use a password to lock my phone and it drags behind for so long sometimes when I enter it I get the Wrong Password notification.I called customer support and they told me they werent aware of these problems. They said it might be a problem with my hardware. This started happening the second I fired my phone up after the OS4 install. So, following the years of trust you have instilled in me with your products, I backed up my phone, downloaded and installed OS4.Beforehand, life was easy and uncomplicated: apps worked and general access to the 3G was quick - as and when needed.Now that OS4 has been installed:I have to do a power cycle each time I wish to use an app.The screen swipe unlock function locks in the right hand position.safari forgets all its bookmarks, so I have to tap them in all over again.Opening Settings takes between 7 and 15 seconds.Mail locks up, requiring a power cycle.My very handy and modestly priced GPS app doesnt know which way is up.Those are just a fraction of the problems I now encounter.Well done.My service provider, although permitted by law, makes ocassional cold calls. These are normally to offer me a new phone package. It is against the law for them to sell me something detrimental: that is to say that whatever it is MUST be beneficial to the customer and not something that will be a cash-cow for themselves.If I do not like the offer, after a month I can revert back to my previous tarif.Apparently, you do not offer that to the thousands of previously happy 3G customers. From what I can understand, we have no other option but to purchase the iphone 4. Although there exists 3rd party software to revert back to v3.1.3, you have not rubber-stamped an in-house version.Well done.Keep the customer, who paid for your ivory tower(s), well and truly under your thumb.I suppose, now that youre surrounded by yes men, youve forgotten what its like being a normal human being.Really, well done. Unsent Message No Service iphone

I am having two minor difficulties with my 3GS. Despite the fact that all my email messages have sent properly, my mail program still acts like it is trying to send a message, but cant. Whenever I open my mail, it tries to send - and I get a message that I have an unsent message. Theres no unsent message sitting in my outbox to erase. Ive tried restating and re-setting the phone, but it doesnt help.Also, recently, I keep getting an annoying message saying that the phone signal is lost. Since I live in a house where the phone signal is weak - and fluctuating - this message pops up repeatedly - so that it interferes with other uses of the phone, like applications / Internet. Slow Response Time on iphone 3G

On or about r4.0 coming out I started experiencing significant Response Time delays moving between keys on my iphone and not sure why. I believe this to be a Processor issue... anybody else out there experiencing this issue. Example:Select Setting icon on Home Screen... reasonable response time of 1-secSelect General icon tab... 3-4 sec delay in response Select another tab on General screen... another 3-4 sec delay before new screen appears.Hit Home button to close General window... 3-4 sec delay...Select Messaging icon... goes to white screen and 3-4 sec delay before messaging dialogue screen comes upKeep in mind that there arent any other apps running in the background that causes response time delaysThe response time delays occur, regardless whether I am on Edge, Wi-fi or 3G.. I do not believe this to be a Networking issue...Also, I only have 3- menu screens with maybe 23 app icons showing... most of which are iphone apps like iTunes, Messaging, Settings, Mail, safari, Stocks, weather, camera, contacts, calendar, pix, Maps, no games!! I have done master reboot on phone... Network Reset... & Restore... on rare occasions I will resume a 1-1.5 sec response time between my selections, otherwise, returning to 3-4 sec delays.Coincidently, around the time this issue occurred, I had upgraded iTunes to 9.2 but doubt this created issues...I eventually downloaded r4.0 thinking a bug fix may have been included... but issue continued...Any feedback? When i plug in my iphone I am unable to sync applications 3G

When I connect my iphone 3g to itunes and i click on the app tab under my device it is cloudy and i am unable to click any thing.. i have tried deactivating and reactivating my computer and that did nothing.. it actually took my apps away.. this just happened today. upgrade now wont let me get online iphone 3G

Very frustrated at this point with the new upgrade. Ive had ALL kinds of issues as from reading here, I can see that Im not the only one. Todays problem is that I cant seem to get online using maps or safari apps. My email works just fine though!? When trying to use maps or safari it will sit there trying to connect to something then just wont. Very frustrated and wish I never even touched the new system.Ive restored the network settings and after that didnt work, I restored the phone. No go.Does anyone know how to downgrade back? Id do that in a heart beat instead of dealing with all these issues. I think I was on 3.0 or 3.1. I havent updated in a while then just jumped to 4. Utterly abysmal iOS4 performance on iphone 3G. What can I

For the past 2 years I have experienced ever declining performance and responsiveness of my iphone 3G. Kind of the same experience ive had with every computer Ive ever owned. Ive come to just accept that as a fact of owning that kind of technology and that every once in a while youll have to wipe and start over if you want things to get better. However, my 3Gs performance towards the end of the pre-iOS era seemed to bottom out at a tolerable level. Not to be confused with acceptable.... but just tolerable.With iOS though, we have breached the tolerable threshold. My iphone is actually quite a nusance to operate now. I kind of have to let out a sigh when I get a text or want to check my email because I know its just going to be an awful wait until i can accomplish anything on the device. Here are some examples of what im experiencing.Unlock slider - 4 to 7 seconds of unresponsiveness before or after slidingText messaging - Probably the most maddening of all. ~8 seconds to start the app itself and 5 to 8 seconds of unresponsiveness after hitting the send button for a text message, barf.Keyboard - Almost anything that wants to bring up a keyboard is basically a 5 second period of unresponsiveness while its loading.safari - Safaris performance was already sub par, with the devices ability to render the page being the bottle neck, NOT the bandwidth. As of right now though, it is definitely a good 30% worse across the board.Apps - Alot, but not all apps, have taken a significant performance hit in general.It has gotten quite painful to use my phone with this kind sluggishness. It almost makes me wonder if developers put a few while loops in the 3G iOS version just to incite upgrades to the new iphone 4.Does anyone know what can be done to improve performance, or possibly a way to revert to iphone OS 3.x? The latter is not preferred because I wouldnt want to give up the insanely innovative and new concept of folders that comes with iOS. Data roaming question iphone

Hi, even though I have data roaming turned off, I seem to have incurred data charges whilst in the US (roaming from UK). Has anyone any ideas how this can happen? All of the apps I normally use tell me that Data is turned off when I try to access them, so Im a bit confused why I have got any charges. The only app Ive used with any success is my satnav (gps) app from CoPilot which has a local copy of the maps. Everything else, mail, safari, etc are only used when I have a wifi connection.Thanks in advance.(Im using iphone 4 if that makes any difference). iphone 4 iOS 4

way to revert to OS 3.0 after updating to OS 4.0 iphone 3G

Im asking this because I lost all of my contacts, pictures, and SMS. So basically Im extremely fed up with Apple product right now and all I want is to revert back to OS 3.0 so that I can restore my iphone and use one of my old back-ups to get my contacts back. iOS 4

iOS4 with 3G phone not good experience iphone

Hi EveryoneUpdated my iphone 3G phone from 3.13 to iOS4, now the battery is so drained, i lost all my contacts and had to do a restore to get them back, now the screen is so unresponsive its got to the point where i cant be bothered to use it for entertainment anymore, I use my ipod touch with 3.13 and that is perfect.I launch mail or safri and it takes around 30 secons before any touch movement is acknowledged which as you can imagine, browing a simple webpage is now is a pain.Anyone else got this issue? iphone wont restore to last back up after updating to iOS4 3G

I updated my iphone 3G to the new iOS4. It told me I should back up my phone before starting the update. So I did...twice. The update went fine. It only took an hour which I expected. When it was finished I went to go look at my phone and everything was gone. No music, no apps, no contacts. All I had were my pictures(which I was happy about because I take so many of them). But I didnt know what to do. Stupid me thought if I hit the restore button it would go back. WRONG. Then the other day a friend of my told me that if you right click the iphone bar and hit restore from back up it should work. So I tried that, but it wouldnt restore the last back up I had saved. It would go for like a few seconds and then say iTunes can not restore iphone because an error has occurred and then the phone would restart. I tried restarting my computer and it says the same thing. I was able to get it to restore to a back up from May, which is okay because I at least got my contacts back. But I lost most of my pictures and my apps are still gone. Plus not to mention the months gap of texts and appointments I put in my calendar. Did anyone else have this problem and know how to fix it? I dont think I would have updated my phone if I knew it was going to be such a pain. So please, if anyone can help me out I would really appreciate it!

SINCE i UPGRADED TO 0S4 lost calles and history s calle faild iphone 3G

Does anybody has problems with the lost and history calles ? Since i made the upgrade i have no data about the calles that i make or recieve or the ones that i lost.If anybody know how to fix this, i ´ll be very thankfull. iphone and Mac iOS 4

Just lost all my apps iphone 3G

I upgrade to 4.0 and lost all my apps near 200$, also 4.0 is so slow on my 3G, I want to go back to my old version, its impossible . I dont understand, there no option to get back all the apps I paid, and there no way to go back to old version.What are my option ??????Please someone help me. Now the only thing I can do its put the iphone in the garbage700$ for the iphone and 200$ of apps. For now Im no more a Mac fans.

iphone 3G and OS4.0

OK I regret my long awaited update to OS 4.0 on my 3G phone. It has made my slightly lithargic 3G (when compared to 3GS) super slow. The following is the laundry list of complains after updating software:1. Super Slow on the web, even on WIFI2. Super slow phone memory functions, such as loading the contacts, after I press a contact I kid you not it takes about 5 to 7 seconds before the contact info loads.3. Calls dropped.4. GPS feature is off by a couple of miles now. I actually got lost using it, so turned it off and just used good old common sense.5. Texting, through apps or through ATT *****!!!!I cannot go on without starting to use some bad language, I am frustrated and annoyed with apple right now. The phone was working fine, like I mentioned slightly slower but far better than what it is right now. I compared it to my wifes 3Gs before the upgrade, it was ok, slower but as expected. But now, oh my god, I feel like tossing it in the trash can. And Apple is super slow, there is no action. Is this just a way so that we HAVE to upgrade to the newer phone????? I have decided to start the clock from July 3, if no action is found through Apple, then this phone and ATT and Apple can keep there phone gladly. There is no reason for the upgrade so if you are one who is smarter than me and researching before the upgrade DONT DO IT, IT ***** and for the 3G it does not make any sense, there are apps that will help you do most of the stuff that OS4.0 is providing. In a month I may be tossing the iphone and going towards droid.Has anyone successfully loaded the old Operating system. My attempt reverted all settings back to OS4.0 when I tried, so 4.0 is apparently default factory OS. i Phone 3G iOS 4

Battery Life iphone 3G

After upgrading to IOS 4.0, my battery life has gone. I used to get 2 days on one charge, but now Im onlygetting one. It loses about 50% in sleep mode overnight.I dont use this phone as an ipod, and I only use a facebook app regularly, other than safari. Any tips? Ive changed my mail setting notifications to fetch every 30 minutes as well.

I have upgraded my 3gs to the new software but since doing this I cant send or receive picture messages- I have also lost visual voicemail.I have made several calls to my provider and they have gone through all the various celluar network settings, I have restored my phone and I am at a loss as to what to do next- any ideas anyone?thanks compaq iOS 4

Wallpaper behind icons iphone 3G

I recently updated my 3g to the new 4.0 version, and had a HORRIBLE experience. I lost ALL info and it said there was no backup for my iphone!!! I restarted my computer and eventually after about 15 syncs, I regained all info, but all of my apps lost all information on them!My phone has also been totally acting up, freezing, constantly reloading my e-mail after deleting all of it, and other various things (I did a restore today and hopefully that will help.) My question however is not related to my bad experience.My question is, does the iphone 3G not have the wallpaper behind the icons ability? My in-laws both have 3GS phones, and they both have the wallpaper in the background.I restored my phone today, but still no wallpaper. Is my phone still jacked up, or do I not get this detail of the upgrade? If anyone knows, please let me know! (I know it isnt a big deal, I just wanna know, so that I know my phone isnt still messed up from the update I did!!!) Toshiba Laptop Windows 7

THOSE WHO HAVE NOT YET SYNCD OR UPDATED, DONT!!!First, I want to open my comment as to why Apple is not posting news updates and etc to these current issues at hand? They are leaving their completely sitting here in the dark. Pretty disappointing for a company of its stature and reputation is supposed to carry and back.The telephone conversation we had was pretty short and sweet. The tech support is currently working on these known issues that are happening with the 4.0 version. She asked if I had lost any data. I explained her that I couldnt even get it to sync at all. She told me to stop, leave it where it is and wait for a version 4.1. version or something of that nature.I am so sorry to see so many that have suffered so much damage to their data, music, and etc. I always wait 15-45 days and watch the reviews, news, and forums before I upgrade, update, or upgrade any platform.I am by far no tech savvy guy, but I do know enough keep all my PCs, macs, Xboxs, iPods, iPhones, and etc in optimal operation as a home based family operation for several years now with little failure or downtime. My suggestion is as follows. Contact Apple support for some sort of agreeable compensation or consider filing complaints with the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs, or consider a class action suit. I have not lost any data, but I have not had the full functionality of my apps and phone for over ten days now. So I will again be contacting them by day 15. Voice Mail Password Issue iphone

For some reason when I updated to Version 4.0 my iphone lost the pass code for my AT&T voice mail. I didnt remember what the 4 digit code was, so I went into my AT&T voice mail and set a new password. I went into Settings to input the new password but it asks for the original password in order to change it.
