Unfortunetly, this being the second iphone i purchase due to having my previous one stolen, i then agian misplaced it. I do know this one was not stolen but was completly my fault. This brings me to my question of, how come apple cannot locate my phone using the amazing gps the phone already had available on it?. A charge would be completly appropriate, but i believe it would just bring somthing more to the table. Everyone at one point either misplaces or reports their phone stolen, so why not a nifty idea of having the phone completly trackable so no one would ever even think of stealing this phone again? i think this is a great idea, but perhaps i am over looking an application that is already available. please, and references or commments, i am more than happy to listen to. iphone 3G Windows XP

Had a full charge and picked up the iphone put it in my pocket and when I got upstairs the battery was on red. What happened? Hello. Ive recently had some hard drive issues on my laptop, which forced me to reformat my hard drive. My iphone now thinks I am using a different computer, which I guess means I need to resync and delete everything on it. What a pain...I have some pretty straight-forward questions, and Ive searched the forums looking for answers but havent found any yet, so excuse me if these are asked 1,000 times a day:Will backing up my iphone really do me any good, in the long run? I guess Im confused about what actually is preserved by doing this.What exactly is lost during a new sync? Will I lose all of my contacts, text messages, and pictures? Or will it just be any music and pictures Ive synced via iTunes? I want to know if I need to type out the numbers and contact info of everything.What about all of my apps? Bug with Restrictions iphone

I attempted to enable restrictions for Explicit music on my phone, but when i enable restrictions, it enables restrictions for everything like safari, youtube etc although i have disabled the restrictions for these applications. Think this is a bug and was wondering if anyone knew if a fix would be out for this soon or am i missing something here. Does anyone else have this issue?

Hey, I just downloaded iTunes 8 and signed up for MobileMe. Now iTunes wont recognize my phone, its a 3G. The original purchasers of the I-Phone were given a credit voucher for $100 when Apple reduced their phone prices several months later. Owners were sent via email and text, a credit voucher number. Well 2 weeks ago I lost my phone and no one turned it in, so Im trying to find my credit voucher number so I can use this to purchase another phone. My dilema is that I deleted my email but saved the text message which contained the info I needed--silly me didnt think that if I lost my phone I would have no information. Apple Customer Service has not been able to help because they kept no records and the refund program is over. AT&T was no help either. syncing contacts with outlook 2007 iphone

Why does syncing contacts with outlook 2007 still not work correctly? I stopped syncing contacts a while ago because when I did my contacts in outlook always got messed up. So now since Im sick of the poor performance on my iphone I decide to finally do a restore. So in the kb it says to do a sync before you do the restore to make sure everything is synced up and you get a good backup, so I do that, and decide to sync the contacts to make sure any contacts I have on the iphone get transferred over to outlook.When I did the sync of contacts any contacts that were not in outlook, but were on the iphone are now gone. If the contact was not in outlook, but was on the iphone it got deleted from the iphone instead of transferred over to outlook. Itunes gave me the warning about more than 5% changing, but the warning didnt have anything under delete, so why did contacts on the iphone that werent in outlook get deleted? I lost alot of contacts. Also it modified some of my outlook entries and removed numbers from people who had multiple numbers even though those multiple numbers existed in both outlook and on the phone, but the sync decided to randomly remove some of the multiple numbers from both places. So now my contacts are completely screwed up. (what a piece of work this thing is)Is there any way to get them back to how they were? Does the iphone backup hold my contact info? Why are safari and iPod applications so linked iphone

Does anyone know why the iphone applications, safari and iPod, are so linked?Ever since the very original 1.0 iphone, crashes in safari have wreaked havoc with the iPods database that lets it keep track of where you are in a song and what has been played when. Even in the newest version of the iphone software and on an iphone 3G, this is a problem.Yes, things have gotten somewhat better. safari crashes less often than it used to (although still quite often enough). If safari crashes while you are listening to a song, it will probably keep its place. However, if you dont have something playing in the iPod application, and safari crashes, it is likely that the iPod will forget where you were if you stopped in the middle of a song in the middle of a playlist. It also forgets which podcasts were listened to already, and it loses track of last-played and playcount information when it is next synced.Ive been with the iphone since the beginning, and upgraded to a 3G as soon as I could. I sync it pretty regularly. Ive been through two original iPhones (bad audio jack on one after several months) and two 3Gs (locked up in the connect to iTunes screen, and even an Apple Genius couldnt get it to exit that mode). Also, Ive used a few Macs over all this time (one at a time) to run iTunes and sync. So I know this happens on multiple iPhones, multiple computers, and multiple copies and versions of iTunes.Its so frustrating that I cant use the iPhones iPod feature as it is intended. I find myself often bringing a nano along just because I know it will properly track my activities and hold my place. Thats hardly what was intended.Is it really that hard for Apple to protect the song information and separate it from safari crashes? How does safari crash in a way that it corrupts the song activity information? I dont see any other databses (such as mail, contacts, notes, or the files affiliated with other applications) being wrecked by safari crashes.I can deal with the safari crashes. I was posting something on Apples Discussions about the change in the Google Mobile App - a poster was lamenting the change to the mobile-optimized format. I like the classic view better, was searching for a way to change it to that in the Settings during a football game... My point follows.I was in the apps Settings screen, fiddling with it by scrolling up and down a bit during the review and not looking at the screen - nervous habit, I guess...After the TD, I stopped fidgeting and looked back at the Settings screen, and theres a new menu at the bottom of the screen I swear wasnt there before called Bells and Whistles. Theres four new settings, following with an appropriate descriptions.Theme Color.Sounds. Default, Chicken, Monkey.Live Waveform. While using the voice search, the waveform matches the intonation of the sound.Open Link in App. I like this one - linked results in the app dont launch the safari browser and lose your search results; and a new navigational bar appears at the bottom of the app.Dont shoot the messenger. iTunes thinking my iphone new 3G

Greetings!I just plugged in my iphone 3G this morning to my MacBook Pro, launching iTunes as usual, except this time it says it doesnt know my phone and asks to either setup a new phone, or restore from yesterdays backup, as if it doesnt even know my phone.My phone appears to be named properly and the same as always in both iTunes and iPhoto, but why would it not be able to identify the same phone its always been syncing? Ive tried restarting the phone, iTunes, changing USB ports, etc. but it still asks to restore from yesterday or start anew.Anyone else have this issue? Tilting Screen Problem iphone 3G

I just updated from the 2G iphone to the 3G iphone last night. I was excited to see the differences between the two. But after got home I noticed that my screen would only tilt to the right, not to the left. I did a hard reset & it seemed to have fixed the problem but then a hour or two later no matter what I was in (photos, safari, or ipod) the screen would only tilt to the right. I can have the phone on its left side but the top of the screen just stays as if it were tilted to the right! It will rotate upright if I turn it that way. So far my 2G iphone was a lot better than this one when it comes to tilting the iphone because I could tilt my old one left, right, or upside down & it would rotate right now! An Apple Customer Care Agent told me its because the new 3G iphone only tilts one way?! Which ever way you tilt it first, your iphone remembers that & only tilts that way unless you restore your device to the original settings. Is what I was told! I dont believe that to be true because of all the tilting apps out there that require you to move the iphone in all directions. So to sum it all up. My iphone will tilt correctly sometimes & then sometimes it will just tilt to the right. Is there a way to fix the problem without having to exchange my iphone? Thanks!! iMac Mac OS X (10.5.6)

iphone Operational Delay

Im new to the iphone 3G (Ive had it 3 days) and Im trying to figure out if theres something wrong with my iphone, or if it is just the way it is. Ive posted a similar message on the AppleInsider forum, but I am being accused of being an S60 fanboy rather than actually getting any constructive help.I was under the impression that the iphone was a very speedy device, and even more so with firmware 2.2 installed (which I have updated to as it came with 2.1). However, it comparison to my Nokia E71, it can be quite sluggish, and I am trying to establish whether this is normal, or if there is something wrong with my iphone.For instance, on the iphone it takes a good 2 seconds before the Settings or Contacts menus popup after pressing their respective icons. In addition, typing in safari is very sluggish, with the magnified letters and click noise being delayed and I almost have to stop and wait a second for the phone to catch up and make sure its got every word I typed before moving on. This sluggishness and delay was not something I was expecting from the iphone given all the reports on how quick it is, and it can be quite frustrating in comparison to the operational speed of the E71.Is this delay normal, or is there something wrong with my phone? Does it take about 2 seconds to open Contacts and the Settings menu on your iphone? Can safari keep up with your typing speed? I probably type in the region of 40-50wpm and it struggles to keep up with this.Any opinions or suggestions greatly welcome, as Id like to get this thing flying along just like my old phone did!Thanks,Michael.

Request for Advice on ATT iphone 3G

Im in San Francisco, iphone 3G owner since the beginning (but new to AT&T). Ive swapped phones and sims, and spent countless hours on the phone with both AT&T and Apple. I have a fully functioning phone, and poorly functioning service.AT&T has confirmed that there are reception issues (due to frequency and over use) in my area of San Francisco, resulting in dropped calls, delayed voicemail and lack of 3G. AT&T has credited my account multiple times, but last month told me that they would allow me to cancel my contract and keep my phone...(or should I say iPod), but would not offer any further discounts on my contract.On a recent trip to Florida, the phone and service functioned perfectly. Full 3G reception 1.5 miles offshore, perfect reception in downtown Miami, not one dropped call the whole trip (except when I called a friend on his iphone here in SF and his phone dropped the call). The reception issue is documented by AT&T with vague promises that it will be fixed Q1 2009. As it stands, Im feeling pretty lost as far as how to proceed — Ive spent a lot of energy, time and money on this project and have a phone that functions very poorly in my home area. AT&Ts incapable of owning it, and Apple recommends that I use the phone as an iPod (or unlock it). This is completely ridiculous on the part of both AT&T and Apple. Help-I just lost over 1200 on 2 iphones COMPLAINT to ATT and Apple

Dear Apple,I bought 2 iPhones (16GB) from AT&T store while activating new service with them. After about a month or so, I was so frustrated* (see all reason listed at the end) with AT&T service that I decided to cancel it and go back to T-mobile. Overall I paid over $1200 for the two iPhones (including tax, cancellation fees, first month usage fee etc.).Now when I was trying to go back to T-mobile, to my surprise the iphone wont work! I cannot believe that I just spent $1200 on 2 shiny paper weights (I cant even get past the activation stage because I did a firmware upgrade procedure on my iphone, iTunes wont sync because it complains that my t-mobile sim was not valid). I called AT&T first and asked them to unlock my phone. They were pretty hesitant to work with me since I had already canceled my account with them. But eventually the customer rep told me that they have no control over the iPhones sim lock and advised me to call Apple. I called apple and the customer rep just plainly refused to unlock because they said it was not possible.I ask for your help. What do I do with the now defunct 2x $600 devices ? iphone stopped working

Hi,I got a 3G on Christmas morning. It worked all day Christmas day on my wifi network. Boxing day, it stopped working entirely, and in fact failed to even see my network completely. Pleae note at this point, all my other wireless devices were working perfectly. Wifi!However, there is still woe to my (lengthy) tale - I have just in the last 20 minutes lost the ability to use my wireless network again on my iphone, yet every other wireless device works.It appears that this is a very serious problem, and would very much hope that Apple intend to do something about this sooner rather than later. iphone becomes very sluggish possibly too many apps 3G

Hello. I have had an iphone since day one, although until my 3g I never had any problems. I find that at more times than less my iphone is sluggish, slow to open apps, sometimes doesnt awake when home button is pressed, etc. I have approximately 40 applications. Even if I reset and they arent running in the background, do I have too many? Do some 3rd party apps slow down your phone even when not running? So basically I just lost 10 dollars iphone

Alright, so heres the story. I was typing up something on the computer and wanted to talk on the phone at the same time. That would have been fine, except, my battery was dying. So, I decide to charge through my computers front USB ports. As to be expected, iTunes recognized the device and starts to sync with it. Afraid of losing my call, I decide to slide to cancel on my iphone. I later discovered that all my songs I had purchased directly from my iphone after my last sync are now completely missing. Is there anything I can do to recover these, or am I SOL?

How can I reinstall lost safari and Camera functions iphone 3G

Ever since I dropped the phone a week ago (still working otherwise), the safari and Camera icons have disappeared from my home screen, and I cannot seem to find them. I have tried Reset Home Screen Layout from the Settings / General menu, but while the existing icons rearrange the missing ones do not appear. My wife an I both have an iphone 3G (white and black)About a 4 days ago we lost all reception at our house both edge and 3g When we used to have full reception on both networks. At&t said all edge towers were repaired as 12/20/08 and as of 5:00 today both networks were back up and running... We still have zero reception. Am I missing something here? Crashing apps and safari iphone 3G

I think I may have found a breakthrough (maybe not on everyone elses part becase there may be some other discussion similar to this, but on my part I have) Here are some things Im noticing about crashes of apps on my iphone 3G:1. Its usually a larger app2. It is usually one that is graphics heavy and text light3. It ALWAYS happens when another app is doing something in the background (ie. iPod playing, mail pushing from server, text message recieved, etc.)4. Crashes are Most common with social networking apps (myspace mobile, facebook)Here are some things Im noticing about safari carshes:1. Picture heavy site such as a failblog.org, etc.2. Same as #3 for apps. Anyone care to comment on or answer why this is happening? WiFi Question iphone 3G

I noticed last night that my iphone 3G does not have the WiFi symbol up in the information bar. I have an E up there. I have the 3G turned off when at home because I have WiFi. I go to the WiFi setting and it shows the network, with a check next to it, but safari seems slow like it is downloading through the E network. Anyone have any ideas on what could be going on? I was using the iphone at home all day yesterday, and I saw the WiFi symbol all day. Noticed the problem last night and this morning. iphone loses signal when recieveing txt message after battery 50

Here lately, my iphone will lose signal when recieveing a txt msg. and you have to push the sleep button on and off and wait for the signal to come back and then a few seconds later, youll recieve the txt. and it only happens when the battery is at 50% or below. and as soon as the battery is at 50%, the phone will start showing the battery low screen, but will last for hours?? Ive installed 30+ apps on my iphone and one of the big bummers of having my phone die or getting lost would be going in and re-installing and reconfiguring all of the apps. Im wondering what the best way is to minimize the likelihood I will have to do this. Two questions:#1 - I ran a backup of my iphone in iTunes just now. Does that back up all of the applications and configuration data?#2 - Theres also an opportunity to sync applications. However, since I already have apps installed on the iphone Im a bit leery of doing this given that it says it will erase whats on the iphone and replace it will whats in iTunes (which is nothing app-wise). Can I get sync working properly so that I dont always have to remember to back up my iphone?Thanks. MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Applications are quitting unexpectedly iphone 3G

I have a new iphone 3G, that is fully updated, and whenever I am using any application for awhile it will quit unexpectedly and return to the home screen. Even safari will do this. When I am typing a text message, the words will appear on the screen extremely slower then what I am typing. I only have like 14 applications installed. Can anyone help me out!!!!! I need to take my iphone 3g in to be replaced because im having the Wifi problem where it will say its connected, then immediately changed to 3G/Edge when i open safari.However, i do NOT want the 2.2 software for the phone. I personally liked 2.1, and Ive had nothing but problems with 2.2.When the apple store gets me a new phone, will they install 2.2 then?Thanks everyone! Imac

iphone couldnt made phone calls 3G

hi, Im really need your help with this. I have my iphone for a month and everything was okay since yesterday when i used the safari. suddenly, the iphone was stuck and it didnt react for some minutes. so, i restarted it, and then for my surprise everything worked fine but the phone button. when i pushed on it, the interface of the keyboard opened but it didnt response when i pushed on the numbers or any other application of this interface. since then, i cant make phone calls from the phone button, but i can make phone calls from the contact list without the ability to disconnect .I restarted the iphone many times but it didnt change it. What to IF iphone lost

Keyword: IF. I still have my iphone, this is all hypothetical.I understand that there is no way to track an iphone if it is lost, and that whoever finds it may easily swap SIM cards and reactivate. My worries are about the info I have on my iphone. Unless I leave the passcode on all the time (which is kind of a pain), I am worried about whoever finds it looking through my contacts, notes, emails, etc.. Call me paranoid but I dont want a stranger having access to my calendar and potentially knowing where Im going to be every day for the next couple of months. If I call AT&T and suspend service, I assume that whatever is already saved on the phone can still be accessed... but when someone tries to re-activate using a new SIM, does it wipe the iphone memory clean?
