Iphone Functioning Issues

My Iphone shows full service (all bars and 3g but will not make calls, send texts, or surf web. What is going on here? Any suggestions? Powerbook Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Activation screen comes up on an already activated phone iPhone 3G

Ive had an active iPhone 3g since July. Twice in the last 24 hrs: once when home button pressed to awaken after just being in my pocket and the other time when powering on after being off for the night, I got the screen graphic showing connect to iTunes to activate (graphic of cord and iTunes logo) as if the phoe were brand new, with no service and only the ability to make a emergency call from the keypad (after slide). Luckily I was near my computer both time but may not be if it happens again. Once attached to computer and device recognized by iTunes, the phone screen says iPhone activated and everything is back to normal. All my apps, tunes, contacts, etc are still there.I take real good care of the phone. Never dropped; usually in my pocket when not in use. Software says up-to-date.Never happened previous to yesterday and nothing different that day. Anyone else having this issue? Any recommendations? Apple support said to restore the phone via iTunes. What a hassle, with all the backing up I have to do. But if that is the only recourse, Ill have to do. Its like, well weve never heard of that one so just restore it - an easy answer. Any other ideas that are not so drastic? iphone

Remotely-find deletewipe lock your iPhone 3G

Does anyone know if there is an application that might let you find your iphone through GPS if it is lost or lock the phone with the use of SMS/text message commands. As well as erase all date from a remote location. I found spritesoftware has this for windows mobile 5/6 and I believe would be a great benefit to the iPhone. Mac OS X (10.5)

poor service iPhone 3G

I would like to say that i was quite unhappy with the customer care. I have been an Apple customer for years, and as a teacher I fitted out my previous school with apple computers and currently trying to do the same at my current school. On of the points i use when convincing admin to purchase apple equipment is due to the good customer care I have received in the past, however no this no longer seems to be the case. My Iphone has a crack on the screen that has been there almost since new and it has not caused any problems. Now 6 months later i am having what I believe to be an unrelated fault I am being told that I am no longer covered by any warranty. I explained to the service people that there was no previous faults that may be related to the crack, but was told that they only have my word for that and that my word was not good enough. I understand that you must have policies in place but I am a long term supporter of your product and very disappointed. As admin staff know of my phone (I use it for much business use at school) and i return to school in a few weeks saying that it failed and apple would not cover it under their warranty, my standing argument for apple due to your quality of care will be useless.

Dropping Calls iPhone 3G

This problem just started yesterday morning. I am unable to make or receive phone calls on the AT&T network. When receiving a call, the phone says I have full signal. When I try to answer the call, the signal bars fall to nothing and then it searches for the network. This happens on both the Edge and 3G areas. When making a call, once again the phone is telling me I have full signal, then it drops to nothing. The call is failed, then searches for the network.I am able to text message, the data is not working. I have restarted, reset, removed the sim card. Im out of ideas. Just a side note, while on GPS in 3G areas, my current location is telling me I am in Cleveland. The problem with that is I live in Delaware. I am not sure if these are related problems.Does anyone have a clue what the heck is going on with this thing. I really dont want to replace it again, this being my second iPhone. I Feel Cheated iPhone

Ive had my iPhone since June and have been suffering far less than satisfactory results in the 3g area... I first had problems getting hold of a 3G signal period until FW 2.2 was issued. Since then I get 3G more often (although not as much as id deem normal) and have recently tried to pinpoint myself with GPS feature in the maps app.I tried several times taping on the location button (little blue crossair) and everytime id do that itd pinpoint my location but only with a circle crossair (around 50m wide). Im writting this because if I didnt have 3G this would be normal but here, Im at full 5 bars in 3G mode and no little blue GPS dot anywhere in sight, even after waiting awhile. I did a speed test in a fully covered area just to make sure and my speed is lower than 400k when it should normaly be 7megs (which in reality should roughly transfer to 3megs in my opinion).has anyone had this problem and has anyone found a solution to it ?PS: Im in the senter of town in geneva switzerland in case. iPhone 3G Windows XP Pro

Nothing happens when iPhone plugged in

Nothing happens when my 2G iPhone is plugged in, either to the charger or the USB connection on my Mac Pro. Ive changed wires,; same problem. Ive tested other devices in the USB ports; they work. When I plug the iPhone into the USB connection, nothing happens, nothing. It doesnt turn on, sync, turn off if on, no noise, nothing. The same symptoms when I plug the iPhone into the charger that uses a separate wire plugged into the charger in a different location. Ive noticed this getting worse till now when absolutely nothing happens when plugged in. Previously, repeatedly plugging and unplugging resulted in both a charging and sync connection, depending on where plugged. Is this a phone hardware issue or am I doing something wrong? Credit Voucher for Original I-Phone iPhone

The original purchasers of the I-Phone were given a credit voucher for $100 when Apple reduced their phone prices several months later. Owners were sent via email and text, a credit voucher number. Well 2 weeks ago I lost my phone and no one turned it in, so Im trying to find my credit voucher number so I can use this to purchase another phone. My dilema is that I deleted my email but saved the text message which contained the info I needed--silly me didnt think that if I lost my phone I would have no information. Apple Customer service has not been able to help because they kept no records and the refund program is over. AT&T was no help either. Has this happened to anyone else and/or can anyone direct me to a possible solution? Id sure hate to lose these $100 now that I really could put it to good use. Original I-Phone

iPhone 3G 2.2 service null null

I recently updated to the 2.2 filmware which in my understanding upgrade the baseband on my iphone 3g. Now I am unable to get service, and under Settings/General/about in the carrier field it says (null)(null). <Screenshot Below>.I did a fresh install and did not jailbreak (kept it stock), and even using a different AT&T sim card, and it still does not work. Dust under screen . iPhone 3G

Does anyone know if you can have apple remove the dust under the screen if you are under warranty? Like will they service the iphone for that? And if they do, do you know if they will completely replace the iphone, or will they just remove the screen and fix it?Thanks Mac OS X (10.5.5)

How to re-install my Iphone settings

I just had to restore my computer to its original state which wiped my hard drive. I have everything backed up because I use an online backup service called Carbonite. I am now ready to restore my itunes library and I found information on how to recreate the itunes library. However, I cannot find any instructions on how to recover my Iphone stuff. Do I just reinstall the phone and then sync with itunes? Will my itunes library contain all of the settings and programs I downloaded for my Iphone? I dont understand the process and would appreciate it if someone could help me or direct me to the right place for information. my iphone isnt picking up edge network 3G

i bought my iphone 3g, i had an iphone original, but it just recently broke. so i was playing with it today and none of the internet things were working. i figured it was just bad service, but i looked and i had 4 bars. but it didnt say anythin like the E beside At&t sign. when i got home i connected it to my wifi just fine. is there a settin i need to change to pick up edge? i dont have 3g where i live right now so i tried turnin the 3g option off and on and it didnt help any. please helpppppppp!

Error Sending Message iPhone

This popped up almost a week ago now - last Friday. I compose a text, tap send and it gives me the little progress bar, moves as if its going to send, and then stops about 1/8th to 1/6th of the way and I get a little message where it usually says sending that says Error Sending MessageAll my googling has come up with people experiencing this on jailbroken iPhones or when they have a momentary drop in service (at which point they just hit send again). But I can receive texts just fine. All other operations on the phone are fine - sending/receiving emails, placing/receiving phone calls, etc.There was some mention of a possibly incorrect SMS service Center Number...? I realize this isnt an AT&T forum, but Im hoping someone out there can help.At the Genius Bar, they said they thought it was an AT&T issue. I went to the AT&T store, where they called the iPhone troubleshooting hotline. The iPhone Troubleshooting guy didnt know what was going on, and suggested swapping to a new SIM card. So, we tried a new SIM card and we tried someone elses SIM card in my iPhone....still nada.Which makes me think its software...? iPhone 3G Problem-Asking for replacement

hello, first of all i live in an African Country, the iPhone 3G was recently launched by ORANGE here, i purchased one from the Orange store for Christmas and i am experiencing a lot of problems.First of all when i was waiting for my iphone to be activated in the store, the employee said that they were experiencing problems with my iPhone 3G, to make a long story short, they replaced the sim card and the phone seemed to work.after about a week of using the phone, ive noticed:-some of my calls are being dropped randomly-the metal frame around the plastic bit hasnt been glued (manufactured) properly, a fraction of a mm of light is emmiting from one side of the phones metal framework-my phone randomly tells me theres no service and then suddenly 10mins later i get full service (without moving the phone, the same happens with my wi-fi)-my phone randomly goes on silent (the ringtone is on the loudest, and the silent button hasnt been activted)Can someone give me advice on what i should do? do i go to ORANGE and ask them to give me a new iPhone? what should i tell them exactly?its a first hand phone, i havnt dropped the phone, and yes i have already tried reformatting the phone, and i still have the same problems, and in case your wondering, NO i did not jailbreak my iPhone 3G - 8GB iPhone 3G - 8GB Mac OS X (10.5.6) Malfunctioning - Replacing

G3 with 2.2 update loosing Battery Life Fast iPhone

I am new to the iphone - just received my first one mid December and unfortunately my second just yesterday due to this reason that I AM STILL HAVING.Before the update on my first phone - I had great battery life - full day running just a few applications like twitteriffic, etc. I also have Exchange with Kerio service set to push. Still - no issues with the battery.I then did the update to 2.2 and noticed the back getting warmer and the battery dropping in just just hours - 4 max if lucky. No changes to the settings at all. I even tried a reset and then a restore and still same issue.Apple then issued me a new phone due to this and oddly - same issues are happening.My question is - is the push to the server causing this and should I have fetch setup instead? I am not sure how this works and which to set to push if i do. Would I turn the Push option off but under the advance tab where it list my email account - should I set that option to Push?I am below a half a battery now and its only be just over 2 hours. Does anyone have one of these? If so, have you had any issues? Does it work good with iTunes? What service are you using? Im looking to get one to use with T-Mobile in the USA and other carriers outside of the USA. Request for Advice on ATT iPhone 3G

Im in San Francisco, iPhone 3G owner since the beginning (but new to AT&T). Ive swapped phones and sims, and spent countless hours on the phone with both AT&T and Apple. I have a fully functioning phone, and poorly functioning service.AT&T has confirmed that there are reception issues (due to frequency and over use) in my area of San Francisco, resulting in dropped calls, delayed voicemail and lack of 3G. AT&T has credited my account multiple times, but last month told me that they would allow me to cancel my contract and keep my phone...(or should I say iPod), but would not offer any further discounts on my contract.On a recent trip to Florida, the phone and service functioned perfectly. Full 3G reception 1.5 miles offshore, perfect reception in downtown Miami, not one dropped call the whole trip (except when I called a friend on his iPhone here in SF and his phone dropped the call). The reception issue is documented by AT&T with vague promises that it will be fixed Q1 2009. As it stands, Im feeling pretty lost as far as how to proceed — Ive spent a lot of energy, time and money on this project and have a phone that functions very poorly in my home area. AT&Ts incapable of owning it, and Apple recommends that I use the phone as an iPod (or unlock it). This is completely ridiculous on the part of both AT&T and Apple. OK, im about 90% sure theres nothing more I can do to improve my battery life on my iphone 3G, but Im looking for some other peoples input before I go way out of my way to go to the apple store, which is about an hour drive (dont have an address that i could use the mailing method ... so thats not an option)Heres my current setup:Hardware: iphone 3G, running iPhone 2.2 OS3G: off- not in a 3G enabled cityWifi: off (on when web surfing at home- not frequent as I use my laptop...)location services: Off, unless im using Maps to get somewhere (rare)Email: Push is activated on my MobileMe account, turned off my work MS Exchange account entirely (would like to have it on) and my third email is turned off as well. Help-I just lost over 1200 on 2 iphones COMPLAINT to ATT and Apple

Dear Apple,I bought 2 iPhones (16GB) from AT&T store while activating new service with them. After about a month or so, I was so frustrated* (see all reason listed at the end) with AT&T service that I decided to cancel it and go back to T-mobile. Overall I paid over $1200 for the two iPhones (including tax, cancellation fees, first month usage fee etc.).Now when I was trying to go back to T-mobile, to my surprise the iPhone wont work! I cannot believe that I just spent $1200 on 2 shiny paper weights (I cant even get past the activation stage because I did a firmware upgrade procedure on my iPhone, iTunes wont sync because it complains that my t-mobile sim was not valid). I called AT&T first and asked them to unlock my phone. They were pretty hesitant to work with me since I had already canceled my account with them. But eventually the customer rep told me that they have no control over the iPhones sim lock and advised me to call Apple. I called apple and the customer rep just plainly refused to unlock because they said it was not possible.I ask for your help. What do I do with the now defunct 2x $600 devices ? Reasons for cancellation:call drops due to low signal,several calls would ring, but upon picking up they would drop.very low voice quality,unusually high amount of wrong numbersSMS charges for incoming messages that I have no control over Mac Mini Core2Duo 2ghz Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Google maps iPhone

After I did the 2.2 update my maps were worse, not better. The gps use to be able to locate my EXACT location. Now it just puts a big blue circle around my entire town. Does anyone know if I can delete the 2.2 update back to the 2.1? Is anyone else having this problem with the maps? I also do not have street view. iphone 3G Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Cannot hear phone calls iPhone

Hi, I have an iPhone 3G thats been fine til today. When I use the phone, I cant hear anything. The caller, however, can hear me. The speaker in the phone is fine; I can play songs and hear them fine over the phones speaker. The problem seems to be only when I use the actual phone. When I press speakerphone during a call nothing happens then either. Its as though the act of using the device as a phone kills the speaker. As soon as I hang up the call, I can hear the speaker again.Ive been through the troubleshooting tips... Turned off bluetooth, use earphone jack to make sure no dirt is built up in the headphone jack...(Its a clean iPhone!) Ive done the two-fingered reset -- all to no avail. All the audio works except the telephone and even though the call completes - and the person on the other end can hear me - I cant hear a thing. Theres no sound at all... no hiss, nothing, when the phone is in use.Apart from the phone/audio anomaly, everything else is working fine. Have I done something stupid? (Yes, Ive tried cutting the volume up and no, it doesnt say headphone when I do) I rarely use a bluetooth headset (bluetooths now off anyway) and havent had my phone connected to anything other than my MBP to charge the battery. The area I live in doesnt support 3G, so thats turned off to save battery power.And if no one might know of a cure, where the heck do I get my phone fixed? I bought it at an AT&T store... will they take care of it if necessary? Online, it appears that Apple will let me see if its under warranty by keying in my phones serial number (and it is!) but then stops there... Wouldnt it be great if they had a link from that warranty status page to either an 800 number or some kind of email tech support... or anything useful? I would imagine the need for support is the #1 reason people look to see if they have time left on their warranty. Its almost as if Apple thinks the iPhone is infallible and will never need service because they sure dont like to tell you how they go about fixing one if need be.Sorry - rant over. Im just glad I kept my land line. Any help or advice on where I might get service - assuming its not something silly Ive done that I can fix - would be greatly appreciated. New iphone cant receive or send text messages

I cant receive or send test messages. I tried turning airplane mode on and off. I also dont seem to have a data plan added to my service. I looked at my contract and it just shows family talk. I thought they automatically add this to iphone contracts. macpro Mac OS X (10.5.6)

So I ust got my iPhone 3g today. Very excited and all. I got it and it is already activated from AT&T and has some random number already assigned to it. I want to transfer my Verizon Wireless number to it. My contract is already up on Verizon so there is no ETF. Is there anyway to transfer it now online through one of their websites or iTunes. Or should I wait till tomorrow when AT&T support number is open. I just subscribed to Mobileme (Free 60 days Trial).I followed all the steps to configure my iPhone + Macbook and everything work splendidly, however there is just one question. Whenever my contact/calendar got synced over on my iPhone/Macbook (vice versa), I notice it does not increment my data-usage (on my iPhone, Setting->General->Usage). I called my Telco and the CSO responded that this service (Push) incurs data charges, now how come it does not show up at my data-usage? Is it a bug? i am sure that i am not the first one to post something about this topic, but i couldnt help be complain about these 2 topics. i cannot believe that apple has not done anything about the lack of privacy for sms. i hate how someone can be exploring my iphone, using the internet, or playing a game and i get a text message with the whole message and sender appearing for whoever to see. pretty much, everytime i give my phone to someone i have to put it in airplane mode (which means they cant even use the inernet at all). i also find it ridiculous that we cannot receive multimedia messages unless the other person can send it to our email, and when we send them we have to find out what service the other person has to send it like an email to their phone.with all the technology apple has developed youd think that they would have figured this stuff out, listened to their users, or atleast supplied a reason why they have not fixed this. iPhone 3G Windows XP

Cannot connect to iTunes for first time. Help iPhone 3G

Im an original iPhone user. I bought a 3G for my girlfriend and tried to hook it up to iTunes for the first time on her HP Pavilion dv2000 laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium, service Pack 1). When I connect the phone, it says This iPhone cannot be used because the required software is not installed. Then it asks me to uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Fine, no problem. Ive done it a million times, Ive uninstalled Quicktime, Ive tried so many things. Ive Googled for hours and have seen similar problems. The only difference between her problem and the rest is that the Apple Mobile Device does not show up in the task manager and does not seem to be installed. Every solution Ive come across says to restart the AMD, or to uninstall the AMD (along with iTunes) and reinstall it. However, it doesnt even exist on her computer at all. GPS on my phone hosed iPhone 3G

Heres the deal: Im on the road today and notice that Trapster cant find my current location. So, I open up the map app. And see that the location cross hair can only zoom in so far, and I never get that blue dot that tracks my location in real time. I then fire up that map app. In my wifes iPhone and it zips right in and works lime a charm. After a fruitless call to Apple care (it must be a problem with AT&T) and several resets, I can at times get tracking down to the blue dot, but it takes several minutes and there is a light blue halo with a merger diameter and the dot tracks poorly. Ive treated the phone quite well and have had only one low drop (2 dr to the floor &phone was in a hard case). Should I head to the closest Apple store? iPhone activation issue-need advice

So, heres my story... I bought the iPhone on day 1. I have had a love hate relationship with it for the last year because of its shortcomings. I was coming from a Blackberry and missed a lot of its features. I ended up selling my iPhone and going back to my Blackberry, only to buy an iPhone again - several times over the last year. I know that is not cool but it was tough being an early adopter with its early issues. Now that 2.2 is here and all the things I didnt like are mostly gone, I tried to purchase and activate an iPhone only to be told I have reached my limit on activating an iPhone. ATT customer service would not budge. I think they think I have been selling them for profit or something. I know it looks bad but I REALLY want to end up with the iPhone. It is now very stable (I did have lots of freezing and crashing early on). Does anyone know a way around this activation thing, or have heard of this issue with anyone else?Miss my iPhone. No service after 2.2 update iPhone 3G

After downloading the 2.2 update, I cannot get any phone service. If I restart my phone, I get 5 bars for about a second, it then jumps down to no bars, then it displays no service. How I purchase multiple iphones from Apple store

I wish to purchase, online, 4 iPhones for myself and family next week. I do not currently have service with ATT. On Apples site, I am able to select the appropriate family ATT plan, and I can give them ONE existing phone number which I want to transfer from my existing Verizon account, to ATT. There is no way however, to input the telephone numbers of the other 3 phones which I wish to transfer. I was told, by Apple, to individually add the 3 other phones, to my new account, to complete the transaction, online. When I do this, it acknowledges that I wish to add 3 lines, but there is no way to indicate that these phones are being transferred, from Verizon, nor do they ask for the phone numbers. I do not want to get to the store on 12/26 to find out that the paperwork has not been completed. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has transferred multiple lines to ATT, from Apples site, and gone to the store to pick up multiple iPhones at one time. What to IF iPhone lost

Keyword: IF. I still have my iPhone, this is all hypothetical.I understand that there is no way to track an iPhone if it is lost, and that whoever finds it may easily swap SIM cards and reactivate. My worries are about the info I have on my iPhone. Unless I leave the passcode on all the time (which is kind of a pain), I am worried about whoever finds it looking through my contacts, notes, emails, etc.. Call me paranoid but I dont want a stranger having access to my calendar and potentially knowing where Im going to be every day for the next couple of months. If I call AT&T and suspend service, I assume that whatever is already saved on the phone can still be accessed... but when someone tries to re-activate using a new SIM, does it wipe the iPhone memory clean?
