using different keyboard iPhone 4

This is my first iPhone. Wont go into the issues Im experiencing. Im interested in feedback on those who are not using the iPhone keyboard and is using a different one from the app store. Ive owned a ton of PDAs since late 2005 (Palm Treo 700wx, awesome keyboard) but was never into 100% on screen keyboard. The stock keyboard is great but with big fingers I would like bigger keys. new BUG in Simplified Chinese keyboard on iOS 4.0.x iPhone

I find a new bug on iOS 4.0.x...Its about the Simplified Chinese keyboard. When i use the Pinyin input method, its really difficult to select a word in the candidate box. When i tap on it, it always locates the cursor instead of choosing a word. I think there is a mistake on sensing area.Many Chinese people are complaining about this issue and iPhone OS 3.x.x has no problem on this. I hope Apple can fix it on 4.1. iPhone 4 iOS 4 4.0.1 and 4.0.2

Top section of Home Button started sticking iPhone 4

If I press down on the bottom of the Home Button it clicks fine, but when I press the center or top the button sticks down for a good 3+ seconds, then pops back out with a loud click.Any suggestions on a home remedy? Isnt an Apple Store within 2000KM of my location, and dont wanna lose my phone for weeks while Apple repairs. Any chance there is something I can do? I cannot see how it would be liquid damage, I clean the phone 3 times a day and it has never been near liquid except whatever was on the InvisiShield I had Futureshop put on it, but from what I can see of the exploded view of the phone hardware, the button itself is enclosed in rubber/plastic inside so no dust/liquid would be able to get in there anyways... iPhone 4 32GB Windows 7

New iPhone4 with Date in Chinese

I just got my iPhone4 but unfortunately, I didnt see this until I got home. I was proudly showing my new phone to my GF and suddenly I noticed why is the date (on the homescreen) in Chinese. For example: September 3, 2010...but in ChineseAnd besides the English keyboard, there was an option to switch to a Chinese keyboard.I came back to the retailer today, they explained because the phone was made in China so that was preset.Is this standard? Does this ever happen to anyone? When I got my 3G, this didnt happen. Dell XPS M1330 Windows Vista

random clicks and moving dead spots iPhone 3G

Anyone know why my iphone 3 would have dead spots that appear sometimes, appear in different sections of the screen, and sometimes are not there? Also, there are times when my phone just clicks on stuff by itself. Ive tried cleaning the screen, not using a screen protector and even getting a new digitizer, but no luck. Any ideas? No sounds iPhone 4

Hi allUpdated to 4.0.2 recently, although not sure if this is the problem or just coincidence.On settings, all my sounds are on (i.e. lock sounds, ringtone to loudest, keyboard clicks) and they have been working until today.Now the keyboard clicks dont work, nor do any other sounds other than the iPod. When I go into settings and confirm my ringtone, it does ring, but not when I get a call.This all worked previously but as I say, not sure whether just a conincidence with the update. Are there any other settings that I may have inadvertently changed.All the best

Downgrade from 4.0.2 to 3.1.3 iPhone 3G

Okey, here is the deal.I just got a Iphone 3G and was totally extatic about it and couldnt take my hands off it from about a day (lol). And then i plugged it into itunes today and it told me to upgrade to 4.0.2, so i did... now it takes about 5 seconds to open a text and another 3-4 to get the keyboard up... iv had it less then a day and its already sh*t... iv scanned the forum and im not the only unhappy person, is there any solid way to fix this and downgrade back to 3.1.3? I want my blinking phone to work after iv payed such alot for it =/. Seeing as you cant e-mail Apple for help, you can only call them (kinda dumb to be hones) id rather come here for help.Id love any response / help i can get, is apple going to do anything about this or whats the deal?Thanks Windows 7

keyboard effectiveness degraded after iOS 4 iPhone 3G

Anyone noticing a difference when using the keyboard after upgrading 3G to v4? I used to be able to text pretty quickly with my thumbs (I have small hands). But now it seems like there is either a lag or my taps are not registering. Strangely, its mostly the spacebar. I have it set to the double-tap adds the period, which doesnt always register. MBP 2.1Ghz Mac OS X (10.5.7)

On screen keyboard iPhone 4

I have noticed that with some apps and websites that ask for you to type certain info that the keyboard comes up for you to type but when you have finished there is no done there is no done button to make the keyboard close. I noticed this when trying to use the natwest banking app. It asks to enter your mobile number and passcode but when you do this you cannot continue because when you enter the code the keyboard does not close and you cant continue because the keyboard covers the continue button. iPhone speakers only play certain things please read 3G

My iPhone has been acting up. I recently bought it and it has the new 4.0.1 software on it. The bottom speakers only play ringtones, and I can hear people on the phone just fine, and talk back to them. BUT, I cannot listen to music out loud through the phone, and youtube videos volume doesnt work, and app or keyboard volume isnt present either. Is this all because of the new OS? i am developing an app that involves 2 tableViewcontroller. when a cell is selected in a tableViewController the detail table view is shown. the detail table view has a cell with a textfield in it.The value entered in the textfield is send to a webservice and the response is alerted using alertView. When the ok button is pressed in the alert view the viewcontroller is poped from navigationcontroller. the keyboard is hidden using the code(void)alertView:(UIAlertView *)alertView didDismissWithButtonIndex:(NSInteger)buttonIndex {http://self.currentResponder resignFirstResponder;}this is working fine the first time i push the viewcontroller and pop it. Annoying dictionary corrections. iPhone

Hi all.When im typing a SMS on my iPhone 3g S (currently running iOS4), and i type in the word me, it automatically changes it to mr. I have tried a whole lot of solutions; resetting the keyboard dictionary, typing the word me into a whole host of other applications, cancelling the correction in the SMS whenever i see it, and all of which havent worked.Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem, and if there are any soltuions available. SMS Issue-Cannot tap into text input area iPhone

Hey GuysI got an iphone4 today and so far I have to say im really enjoying it and am very impressed with it. Though I do have an issue with one of the most fundamental mobile phone features.If I create a new sms, I can type in the recipient field and choose who to send to, but when I try and tap the text input area to type my message, the cursor doesnt move to that area so I can therefore not send any sms messages.I can receive them however, but when I try and tap the screen somewhere around their bubble in order to reply, I get no keyboard. The keyboard appears to work fine everywhere else, and the touchscreen responds fine everywhere else.This is starting to irritate me somewhat now and I would appreciate any advice.Thanks in advanceDave Custom Windows XP Pro

I have an Iphone 3g which i have had for about a year now. Two days ago my keyboard on facebook and texting keyboard would not turn landscape. Instant message--email link. iPhone

A friend recently sent me an email link using messages, on my iphone 4, so I can send pictures using regular mail using my iPhone 4. When I clicked on the blue hyperlink containg the email address within messages, it opened up mail which it is supposed to do so I might be able to send a text or pictures. What the problem is no keyboard appeared so I can compose a message or attach a file. Can anyone offer a fix or might be having the same problem?? IPhone 4 iOS 4 VM WARE FUSION

iPhone 3GS wont ring

For the record: I dont think my dilemma has anything to do with the new iOS4 update. Recently my iPhone has been acting a bit odd. You know the little switch right above the volume buttons? The one that if you switch it, it shows a bell. Silent or ring. Well, a couple of days ago (about 2 days) after turning my phone back on, the little bell symbol randomly came up and was flashing on and off. This all happened without me touching the actual switch. After all that happened, when I went to switch the silent/ring thing, nothing came up. It just stayed the same. Now theres no sound. I can play music aloud. I can play a ringtone aloud. It just wont play on its own. If I receive a call, I wont hear it. If I receive a text, I wont hear it. The keyboard wont even click anymore Ive checked the settings. I am having a problem sending emoji emoticons in text messages; it just shows up like this “yyy’y”.I am texting other iphone users, we are all on OS4, but I had this problem bephore the update as well, I have tried 3 different people, I have downloaded a few different emoji aps, I have powered my phone on and off, the keyboard is enabled. One of the more common ones includes getting an n or a b when double tapping the space bar. Ok. Worked just like everyone else phone before the 4.0 update. No hacked/cracked or jail broken 3G just your average user here. After the LOOOONG update, my Battery life goes from an already shot life (but at least a day use) to 40 min to 1 hour of sloppy use and then the 20min warning that gives me not 20min BUT 3-5MIN!Phone is slow to open ITS own apps such as text. Ok trying to deal with my phone lagging 20-30sec just for the text app to show on the page, then typing much faster than the keyboard can keep up )Folks im a slow typer ok) and it lags to keep up with me! now remember it already is lagging so it takes 2-3 pushes of a contact name to even start the typing!All other apple apps NOTES opens slow laggy, the camera (oh lord dont let there be something i need to take a fast pic of because its was an already slow app now just SUPER slower..same with contact use or PHONE use. When I type in a phone number to call, nothing is shown on screen for a few sec! Littany of issues after installing Ios4 on 3G iPhone

So my previous computer was destroyed beyond repair. After buying a new 17 MacBookPro I synced my 3G to it and installed the upgrade to Ios4. As it turns out I couldnt have done anything worse. It took approx. 6 hours to back up and install the new OS. Then when I open the phone all of my non preinstalled apps are gone. This wouldnt be such an issue if the phone would connect to my computer again. Since the initial install I have been completely unable to connect to a computer. Aside from those issues the performance is abysmal since the upgrade. The ipod take about 5 attempts to start and crashes if i get a text message. It takes so long to open apps that the phone falls asleep before the app opens. When the phone rings the swipe to answer lags so much that the call goes to voicemail before I can answer it. The keyboard lags so much that I can type an entire message before it actually shows up on the screen.Any suggestions are wildly appreciated. iPhone 3G iOS 4

Utterly abysmal iOS4 performance on iPhone 3G. What can I

For the past 2 years I have experienced ever declining performance and responsiveness of my iPhone 3G. Kind of the same experience ive had with every computer Ive ever owned. Ive come to just accept that as a fact of owning that kind of technology and that every once in a while youll have to wipe and start over if you want things to get better. However, my 3Gs performance towards the end of the pre-iOS era seemed to bottom out at a tolerable level. Not to be confused with acceptable.... but just tolerable.With iOS though, we have breached the tolerable threshold. My iPhone is actually quite a nusance to operate now. I kind of have to let out a sigh when I get a text or want to check my email because I know its just going to be an awful wait until i can accomplish anything on the device. Here are some examples of what im experiencing.Unlock slider - 4 to 7 seconds of unresponsiveness before or after slidingText messaging - Probably the most maddening of all. ~8 seconds to start the app itself and 5 to 8 seconds of unresponsiveness after hitting the send button for a text message, barf.keyboard - Almost anything that wants to bring up a keyboard is basically a 5 second period of unresponsiveness while its loading.Safari - Safaris performance was already sub par, with the devices ability to render the page being the bottle neck, NOT the bandwidth. As of right now though, it is definitely a good 30% worse across the board.Apps - Alot, but not all apps, have taken a significant performance hit in general.It has gotten quite painful to use my phone with this kind sluggishness. It almost makes me wonder if developers put a few while loops in the 3G iOS version just to incite upgrades to the new iPhone 4.Does anyone know what can be done to improve performance, or possibly a way to revert to iPhone OS 3.x? The latter is not preferred because I wouldnt want to give up the insanely innovative and new concept of folders that comes with iOS. Its one feature I really dont want to sacrifice. T9 iPhone

I think that T9 would be wonderful on the iphone, i mean i think at times the keyboard is great but the letters are too small for my big fingers, im a 61 20 y/o man my fingers have the ability to click a letter and SEND at the same time, its stressful, T9 would bring back memories i had with of ancient nokia i had back in the day. Texting issues iPhone

Since i have made the switch to iOS 4 i have noticed a lot of problems when it comes to texting. The biggest problem that i have noticed is that the virtual keyboard seems to be very inaccurate compared to what it was before in iOS 3. I have had to slow way down when texting because the keyboard thinks that i am hitting letters other than the ones that i am trying too. The most common occurance of this is when i try to double tap the space bar in order to put a period and then create a space. My iphone always interprets that as i am trying to put a space and then press n. One of the things that i loved about the iphone was how accurate the keyboard was but whatever change has been made is quite irritating. Macbook Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Suggestion for possible iphone with slide out keyboard.

I dont really know if there is a suggestion forum but i thought it would be neat if apple designed a iphone with a physical keyboard for those people who love to text. Apple could even run a internet pole to see what there customers would think i mean the iphone is top notch but i think having one with a slide out keyboard could possibly increase apples sales. Text message SMS keyboard used to auto hide after sent message iPhone

So Im a long time iPhone user and I could have SWORN that a while back in an old iPhone OS after you sent a text or SMS message, that the keyboard would go away or auto hide itself. So heres an example, I get a text from a friend and read it. The keyboard isnt up yet because I havent started typing. I tap the box or field to enter text, type my message and hit send. Ok I swear the keyboard USED to hide or minimize itself after you sent a text message and NOT stay up. Many 3G with OS 4 Problems FIXED iPhone

I have been having many problems since I upgraded my 3G to the new OS 4 system. I have read hundreds of Posts that all of you have written and I see my problems are not unique.Here is all I will say: Reset All Data had a HUGE POSITIVE impact on performance on my 3G after the new OS 4 was installed. I was having problems across the board (slow, crashes, loss of data, etc.). My Passcode was not working, the keyboard was awful, I regretted installing OS 4. After reading all the Posts, I decided to go ahead and do the Reset All Data process. Boy the change was immediate and positive. 99% of my complaints went away immediately.I am still having problems with the MobileMe Find My iPhone process. It is still not accurate at all. But otherwise OS 4 on my iPhone 3G is a success. iPhone 3G iOS 4

keyboard Issue-Can I have previous keyboard back iPhone

I dont know how many Chinese users are here. But I would like to ask whether I can have the previous Chinese keyboard back after I have upgraded to iOS4. There are an extra notation () at the very right of the second line in the new Chinese keyboard in iOS4, which changed the keyboard layout a bit. However this does affect me a lot, now it takes me long time to type because I always type the wrong buttons since the layout has been changed. Also,as we have to switch to English keyboard to type English, we have to face two different keyboards every time, which means we have to get used to 2 keyboards,so I would say it is not very considerate and totally waste of time. Moreover, to be honest, this notation () is very useless to Chinese Users. It even means nothing at all in Chinese and it is not a formal notation as well. Although these are just my opinions,I am sure that lots of Chinese users are suffering the same problem. What 3G users need to before upgrading to OS 4.0 possible fixes iPhone

Hey Everyone,I purchased my iPhone 3G back on February 1st, so I am only about 5 months into my first/new contract with At&T. That being said, I wished I had sprung for the extra $100 on the 3Gs due to the following complications you should all be aware of. If you are going to update to the OS 4.0 on a 3G phone you need to be aware that because of the phones processing power, backup restores have a 10% chance of actually restoring to the phone. This backup includes contacts, voice memos, call data, voice mail, etc. (the 10% figure is a ballpark figure based on the few whom have had luck)More than likely when you upgrade to the OS 4.0 you will not be able to restore backup information as mentioned above. I am not sure why this happens, but the best idea I can come up with is that the backup files somehow become corrupted. This could be due to a number of things: Itunes 9.2 is not installed properly, Bonjour is interfering, the copy of the OS 4.0 file was somehow corrupted in downloading (its possible due to the number of iPhone owners downloading the software at the same time), activation servers could be lagging, your phone was not properly ejected/disconnected properly from last backup, iTunes could have a unknown bug interfering with the upgrade, as well as many other scenarios I could post here.I spent nine hours trying to get the OS 4.0 onto this device using my backup info. After it was all done and said, I realized that was never going to be possible. My phone too did the cycle of being stuck in restore mode. This was solved by simultaneously holding down the power and home button, waiting for the apple logo to appear and immediately taking my finger off the power buttun and still holding home until the sync cable image appears. (the hold time for this varies from 7-20 seconds)From here I repeated the update process and instead decided to restore as a new iPhone. I lost all my information except my apps. So, some tips if you decide to upgrade the OS.#1 - somehow back up your contacts via pen and paper or some other method that works best for you. Email suits like Outlook can be used to back these up (how I am not sure, but it is possible.)#2 - make a copy of the iTunes folder of your applications (right click Applications folder>click copy> and paste somewhere else like your desktop as a back up, JUST IN CASE IT DOES NOT SYNC YOUR APPS THE FIRST TIME.) Depending on the number of apps, this can take up space temporarily, so make sure you can accommodate the temporary copy. (the copied apps folder can just be deleted after youve finished)#3 - back up any photos or video on your phone via email or syncing them into your iTunes, and copying the files to another part of your computer. (This is what we call a better safe than sorry scenario)#4 - once you have your info and collections backed up if possible, erase them off of the phone manually. This frees up update time and makes a smoother faster update.#5 - Go ahead and retry the update or attempt the update at your own disclosure. Remember, you will have to set the restore to a NEW iPhone, not the back up.This is the method that worked for me. I will note that the phone sometimes lags, keyboard entries lag at times, but otherwise it looks nice. Very few new features, but its enough for a taste to make you want a newer model. Expanding text messaging screen iPhone

I was wondering if anyone knew how to reexpand the text screen so you dont see the keyboard any more in order to read more messages without going back and then clicking on your contacts name. When you turn your phone sideways and then go to type a text the keyboard pops up, when you send the message it doesnt go away and you can only see like one message or half a message at a time. One of the things that i used to use constantly was a double click on the home button to open my favorite contact page. Its really important to me for work to have those few numbers just two blind clicks away. But with the ios 4 double click now opens the multitask. anyone know any options where i can get my fav contacts back to where i can see them in seconds? I saw there is a triple click option but it looks like that can only be changed to a few default shortcuts that i dont need. Is there a way to switch the triple click home button to open my favorite contacts? that would be the best solution for me but Im open to suggestions. Intel Windows Vista

iPhone 3G iOS 4--Bluetooth isnt working

So my bluetooth has stopped working completely. I cant get past searching/discoverable. I used to be able to see my MacBook and my keyboard even though I cant connect with them, now I cant even get to my previously working headset on the phone, and my MacBook cant see the phone even though the phone says its discoverable. Problem with just my particular update, or is this 3G-wide?Ive turned the thing off and on, made sure my headset is in pairing mode, and oddly enough I can play a bluetooth game against my (not updated) iPod Touch. Its not the game interfering with the phone somehow, as I only installed it to test the bluetooth. Dont want to mess around with the phone right now unless Im the only one in 3G land with this problem... This isnt a feature thats been disabled by the update, right-- Im feeling so pessimistic. 2nd gen iPod Touch

Two Bugsreports regarding messages function iPhone

Hello!I would like to take this opportunity to present 2 bugs(?) related to text messaging with the latest version of iOS4Bug #1:When you go into a text message conversation and pull the finger down you get a bump as the phone tries to scroll down but are all the way down. During this bump you press the text field, making the keyboard appear. Now the keyboard occupy half of the messages displayed untill you go back and into the messages again.Repeatable every time.Bug #2: Sometimes when you are in a text message conversation and press the message button (back). The list is scrolled up to the start of the conversation instead of going back out in the message screen.This happens alot to me when you go in and press back (Messages) within 1-2seconds.Not reproducible every time, but often enough.Please contact me if you need more information. Emoji Free Removal iPhone

I recently downloaded the app emoji free! which allows u to use smilies in texts to other iphone users. To enable the app for use in texts u hafta go to the keyboard language screen and scroll down to japanese and turn on emoji. I did this and upon using the smilies realized that i didnt like them very much. I then deleted the app but for some reason the emoji smilies still remain. I went back to the keyboard language and looked under the japanese portion and the emoji feature still remains there. I tried redownloading the app to delete it again in hopes that itd fix this but it never did. Anybody know how to completely delete the emoji feature and remove it successfully from under the japanese keyboard section? I tried contacting the company that puts out the app with no luck. My 3G upgrade nightmare-iOS upgrade DELETED my iTunes Library iPhone

So i left my iphone in my home office last night while it was updating, which took several hours BTW, and went to bed. I woke up this morning to a phone with zero music on it, but iOS4 was installed. So i click on the music link in iTunes and theres nothing there. NOTHING. So i clicked on my G drive where i keep all my iTunes library (external drive) and cant find any of my recent downloads (about 20 different albums over last two months). How has this happened??? I cant find the albums anywhere i look. Total nightmare (please spare me the backup lecture, point taken). The irony is, i wasnt even going to upgrade as im waiting for Thursday to have a completely fresh experience with the new iPhone 4. I hope to the Gods I can recover this lost music somehow.Also, my ringers dont ring when i get calls or texts, and i have no keyboard clicks. Epic FAIL of an upgrade. iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.2

Can anyone tell me if when writing a text message etc whether you can change the keypad from the qwerty keyboard to the normal keypad (eg: abc on number 2, cde on number 3 etc)?Thanks

I have an idea for physical keyboard lovers iPhone

When I got my first iPhone 1st generation, I struggled to get used to the touch screen keyboard. I always wished to somehow modify the phone to have one. I eventually got used to the keyboard and its not bad. But with the release of ios4 and the ability to use bluetooth keyboard. I was thinking of a case that could cover the back of the phone, that would plug into the power of the iPhone and inside the cover would be a slide out keyboard with a bluetooth ability built into the case keyboard which is powered by the phone itself. This may decrease battery life slightly but if you feel the need to have a physical keyboard I guess you can suck it up.
