I need more space for music so am debating whether I should get a 32G or 64G iPod Touch or an iPhone4. (I currently have an 8G iPod nano.) It would be nice to have phone and music on one device (iPhone) but I am guessing theres pros for having separate devices. What are your recommendations? I also hear there will be a new itouch announced on Sept.1 so definitely will wait til then to decide. (I am also going to post this on the itouch forum so I get feedback from those folks.) 13" White MacBook (Oct.09) Mac OS X (10.6.1) My first MacBook and I love it!
Ive just run headlong into a major email problem after setting up an associates email client to automatically forward selected email addresses to her during a three week trip carrying only an iPad and iPhone for email access. The only available option for the automatic forwarding is to forward the email as an attachmentThe problem is that the iPads GMail client simply presents the attached emails as cannot open attachments. This is not only the GMail client, but the problem is there for other as well, so, the email client appears to be common except for the setups. These attachments do have a filename extension... it is .eml (which is a long existing and standard extension for email attachments)imho, this needs immediate attention. The only (apparent) current options are to manually forward the emails inline or to use a webmail interface... if it happens to be GMail, there are additional problems. Ive been using the same passcode for several months now (so I know that I am putting in the correct passcode). Its set to ask for it after 4 hours of inactivity. Last night, I updated 4 apps before going to sleep. Now, this morning my passcode is not being accepted and I am getting locked out. I have tried restarting and hard restarting, but no luck. How can this be fixed without doing a back-up reinstall? What would cause the valid passcode to no longer to be valid (the updated apps)? iphone 3g iOS 4 passcode fail locked out
This is a phone which I dont know the history of. It was given to me today to see if I can get it going. So far, when attempting to restore it, I get Error 29. I believe OS4 was installed prior to this issue but Im not sure. Heres the details. I have a new iPhone 4G & have transferred all data from the old iPhone 3G. Wiped the iPhone 3G and want to rebuild it for my son from my own iTunes account. So he can use all the games I downloaded. He only is 9 so I dont want to give him a phone SIM yet. Now the 3G is wiped clean the message on the iPhone is Insert a valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate iPhone. iTunes says the SIM is locked.I dont want to put in SIM. My old SIM is no longer working. Ported mobile number from carrier. How do I tell iTunes to forget about asking for a SIM? MacBook Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Im asking you, iPhone 4 users, if you can make a test of your camera.I am substantially pleased by the iPhone 4 camera but after some days of use, viewing the images at 100% crop (1:1), I discovered a defect on all the shots. At the far left side, next to border and top to bottom, the image is blurry, independently of the point of focus of the lens.I post five shots of mine (original, not edited) so you can check out and compare:http://iphone4.robertocastelletta.com/IMG_0151.JPGhttp://iphone4.robertocastelletta.com/IMG_0152.JPGhttp://iphone4.robertocastelletta.com/IMG_0042.JPGhttp://iphone4.robertocastelletta.com/IMG_0155.JPGhttp://iphone4.robertocastelletta.com/IMG_0161.JPGPlease let me know if this is happening to you too and is to be considered normal or if my iPhone camera lens got some problems and need to be swapped.Thank you MacPro 2009 - 8 core Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Hi! Yesterday I tried to update my phone software but something happened when it was restoring that it never worked again. I already deleted the backup. I replaced my screen because it was cracked. Phone still functioned fully. I updated to 4.02 or latest update with success so that I could restore to that point later. My problem is that I have success in getting the connect to itunes recovery screen and the computer has offered to restore and then begins its process. According to the Phone updater log, the restore succeeded. However as Itunes restores (or during the process), the phone returns to the apple logo screen and itunes no longer sees it. The phone will then endlessly loop to try and reboot every 5 mins or so with the apple logo until the battery goes dead. Two attempts thus far.I have a valid contract with AT&T and the phone is not jailbroken. Although yes, I replaced the screen myself. (A cost of $20 shipped to my house over $200+ with apple) The phone is a little more than 2 years old.The frustration is it seems that everything should be working but cant get past apple log screen. I believe since i took the phone to an itunes store to inquire about glass replacement, the tech would had noted the cracked screen, leading anyone to believe the possibility of the phone screen being replaced otherwise, in otherwords, I dont expect Apple to help at all despite the fact of having 2 phones now, but they could surprise me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Iphone 3g 8GB iOS 4
There was a thread open on this subject here:http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=-1&messageID=11751348Unfortunately, it has been considered answered, although there is no actual answer in any post of the thread: the little blue triangle in the top left corner on the screen is still a mystery. It is not shown on page 17 of the user manual, and the triggers that make it appear and disappear are still not explained. Any thoughts or help ?The following image shows this tiny triangle, whose location does not change in landscape mode:http://staff.osuosl.org/~emsearcy/iPhone4bluetriangle.png iPhone 4 iOS 4

I recently upgrade software on my iPhone 3G to the new version 4 software. iTunes says its software version 4.0.2. Im so frustrated. I think its the software because immediately after I installed it is when I started noticing the problem. The problem lies with answering the phone or making calls. Im sure everyone knows that when you make a call, you can pull the phone away from your face and you have 6 buttons, i.e. mute, contacts, keypad, speaker, etc. And of course the hang up button on the bottom. Well I just did some experiments with it so I can better explain and maybe someone has experienced this or can help to solve it.I make a phone call to someone and as long as I hold the phone in front of my face so I can visibly see it, the screen stays visible. I see the background image and the 6 buttons as well as the red hang up button. As soon as I put the phone up to my ear to talk, the screen backlight goes off and the screen is black (which is normal). The only problem is that when I pull the phone away from me ear anytime after the backlight has went off, the screen will NOT come back on. So I cant pull the phone away from my ear to turn on the speaker. I cant access my contacts to give someone a number. I cant even pull the phone away to be able to hang up the call. All I can do is just push the lock key on the top of the phone to end the call. It is really frustrating, especially when you need to use the keypad, like if you call your credit card company or something and you have to enter numbers. Its just very frustrating. Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any more flaws that others are finding with this new software on the 3G? Does anyone know a fix for this? iPhone 3G iOS 4 8GB, Model MB046LL; Serial 880080P3Y7H
I recently tried cleaning my iPhone with a little bit of water just on the screen. However, apparently a tiny bit leaked to the side and when I turned it on, the screen flickered. I immediately turned it off, used compressed air to blow out excess water, wiped it down, unscrewed the phone, separated it in half, and put it in a bag of rice for a day. Then I added in a silica gel packet for about 4 hours. When I put it back together and started it, it worked but the screen looked like: So is that like water between the lcd and digitizer or some faulty connector. Im leaning towards liquid between the two pieces cause if it was a faulty connector, i doubt only a square corner of the screen would be messed up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks iPhone 3G iOS 4
Hope someone can help as Im out of ideas and googling ability. My wife got her phone out of her bag on Fri, and it was stuck on the Apple logo. Now it was working fine an hour before as I had rung her on it, and shed just put it away, so she hadnt been updating software, apps etc.Firstly I hard booted it, nothing. Then I put it into Recovery mode, ITunes saw it and allowed me to restore 4.0.1. It rebooted after it finished, but still stuck at the apple logo. I then tried again using DFU mode, same thing. Using irecovery, I was able to view the iboot loader, had 15 reboots and 1 panic reboot if that means anything. Im out of ideas, and typically, the phone is two weeks out of warranty. Can anyone help??? Iphone 3G iOS 4
Well, after four attempts spanning over 7-hours, I finally got the improved downgrade installed and everything re-synced back to where Apple should have left it. Honestly, after being a loyal customer since 1984, I have never seen Apple Computer make so many blunders with a single product line ever! It was markedly unintelligent to even suggest, or allow revision 4.0 to be installed on an iPhone G3. BTW: I attempted various website instructions to apply the fix, and ultimately found the guidance provided by ‘lifehacker’ to be the most accurate and straightforward. Keep in mind that after you get version 3.1.3 installed, you will need to select ‘set up as a new iPhone’ within iTunes and cycle through the various menu options to check-mark what things get synced e.g. apps, music, photos, etc. Otherwise, your phone will be configured as it came from stock. “One more thing…” Not all apps may not be installed on your iPhone 3G, if they were designed specifically for version 4.0 or higher. http://lifehacker.com/5572003/how-to-downgrade-your-iphone-3g%5Bs%5D-from-ios-4-to-ios-313Regards,Dan 2009 Quad 2.66 MBP Core Duo; AEBS; iPhone G3; itouch Mac OS X (10.5.8)
Hi everyone. I attempted to downgrade an iPhone 3G to iOS 3.1.3, and had planned to use irecovery to get the phone out of recovery mode (once the restore was complete). However, the iPhones screen froze while restoring, about 2/3 of the way through. In iTunes, the blue progress bar was pretty much complete. So Im not sure what to do. After a while had passed, I unplugged the iPhone and it went back into recovery mode. I attempted to restore from the current iOS 4.0.1 firmware, and the same thing happened. I also attempted to exit recovery mode via irecovery, and that didnt work either. Anybody got any ideas? I managed to downgrade a different iPhone 3G and didnt encounter any problems, so Im not sure why this has happened. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.7)

I have recently acquired a used 3G iphone, not in my hands yet. It is unlocked and has been jail broken, and also has the new OS4 system installed. My question(s) is, I do have an itouch 8g, with the OS3 already installed on the touch and computer, is there a way to re-set/wipe clean the 3G phone and then when I sync from my computer it will load the OS3? Also, if that can work, what do I do to unlock for a different country?thanks... ipad 32g
Can anyone confirm this? My 3G has become almost useless (extremely slow) since OS 4.0 and 4.0.1 update. Now obviously Apple tested the OS4 update on the 3G phone and MUST have noticed the problem and yet AGAIN neglected to do anything about it before releasing OS4 ... sooooo, I have a pretty legit question/complaint.Is Apple really doing something about the problem (as in a new OS 4.x release to fix it)? Or, is this just more lip service similar to the reception problem in the iPhone 4?An the signal reception adjusted calculation seems to be effective for my 3G phone also, as it now shows 5 solid bars, but gets cannot connect to server, cant get my Mail, cant ... Very disappointed in how Apple are dealing with their mobile hardware, iPad and the iPhone 4 appear to be the most fragile devices on the planet with some very obvious problems. And please no speech about how everyone elses hardware is fragile also, just NOT relevant nor a valid excuse.Trying to deceive a public when your market penetration was very small -- you got away with. But now your market penetration is considerably larger, this lip service game you play Apple just doesnt fly.So, is there a OS4 fix for 3G users? I am going to Europe soon, and purchased the World Travel Adapter kit so I can charge my 3g iphone (software 4). I have tried it out here in the US, and I get some very strange behavior. I am baffled. When I plug the phone into the adapter, it seems to indicate that it is charging, but the image does not show progress like it does when i use the regular ac charger that came with the phone or with the USB connection to my computer. I can leave it for many hours and it does not show any increase in the charge. I figured the adapter was defective, so I returned it and got a replacement. Same thing happens with the new one.I accidentally stumbled on a fix...I let it charge for a couple hours and then if i reboot the phone, all of a sudden it reports being fully charged. This is nothing like the behavior I am used to with the stock US ac charger.Has anyone else had this problem, or noticed abnormal behavior like this, or am I the only one? Any tips would be very much appreciated. iPhone 3G Windows 7
When i uppdated my Iphone 3G to 4.0. At first it said: Insert a valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate Iphone. And I took away the PIN lock but nothing happend. The phone has no connection and I can only call emergency calls. In Itunes i says that only compatible SIM cards from a supported Carrier may be used to activate Iphone. Please insert the SIM card that came with your Ihpone or visit a supported Carriers store to receive a replacement SIM card.I know that my SIM card is working because i tried it in another phone and i have used it with this iphone sinse christmas.I have no idea what to do, so I would really need your help! Something strange is going on with MMS on my iPhone 4. It seems to have started around the 4.1 upgrade. Within the messages app, I can see thumbnails but if I click on an image I get a black screen. If I save the image, I can see it in Photos but cant see it in Messages. All MMS messages behave this way, even the ones that Ive sent. Ive reset network settings, rebooted, sacrificed a furry woodland creature....nothing seems to help.Could it be another app thats interfering with it? iPhone 4 iOS 4

While Im talking on the phone the speaker phone will come on and/or I will lose the call. When I was at the apple store they informed me this was a problem. What I need to do, while holding the phone in my right hand, press my cheek up to the top left of the phone which will make the screen go black. Sometimes I forget to do this, and today while talking to my sister I lost her call twice and she was placed on hold while another number was dialed. This is getting to get on my nerves. Does anyone have a better solution before I return this phone? Thanks for any suggestions. macbook Mac OS X (10.6.4) classic ipod, itouch, iphone4
I know iPhone 3G doesnt support home screen background. But, the other day, when I was restoring my iPhone on iTunes, I could see the default home screen background that iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 have(with the water droplets) on the screen of my phone with the message iPhone activated. It stayed for about 2 minutes. it disappeared with a black background in the later processes of iPhone restoration. My doubt is, if background image could be displayed then, why not during the normal phone operations? Is there a way to get the background? HP Pavillion 3060 iOS 4

I am having some problems. I replaced my iPhone 3G screen and got the white screen and was told to restore the phone. I did that. Now It just reboots continuously and sometimes has the little loading symbol that spins like when you are loading a video. The iphone is on iOS4. I have tried both restore mode and DFU mode. I am able to reload the OS on itunes but it just does the continuous boot all over again. Here are some logs i found. HelloI will try not to post a wall of text but I have several questions about how to use certain features in the iPhone that, having tried an Android device for several months before moving over; are confusing me.1) If I get a text message from someone who is not in my phone book and then I decide to add them to it. How do I do this? In Android I could highlight the number and choose add to Contacts but I see no such option in iPhone; am I missing something?2) I have had an issue with receiving previews of text messages when the phone is idle/locked or on the dock. Most of the time, I want ot see this preview so I can read it without opening it, but other times, Im sent an image or a video clip and both just show up and display--when my phone is unattended. I dont like this. I attempted to turn Preview off to resolve it but then I cant ready text previews. Is there any way to distinguish between MMS and SMS?3) the text in Safari on some pages is too large. How can I adjust down the size of the text so its not so big? Ive tried pinch to zoom or whatever but this doesnt work on certain pages.4) The default alert ringers/sounds that come with the phone are relatively bland. How can I change them? Honestly, it was difficult to do this even on my previous phone; so just wondering if its any easier on the iPhone.5) If the phone was locked/idle and I get an incoming call; my only option seems to be slide to answer with no decline option. Am I missing something? I am aware that i can hit one of the side buttons to silence the ring/vibrate but am I really stuck waiting for the phone to finish ringing/go to voice mail before I can use the phone again?5) Will FaceTime calls continue to be interrupted by other phone calls that come in? Okay, something happend to my phone. So now I cannot get icons,or anything to appear in window. Its just black!!?! When I go to reset iPhone a window opens up and says iTune has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iphone before it can be used in iTunes But when I plug iPhone into my Macbook, and hold down restore botton on top right hand corner of phone...a new image appears in iPhone window. Actually two images appear. One is of the iTunes avatar/logo,and the other appears to be an image of cable aimed at itunes with a white arrow inbetween them pointing towards iTunes logo. So everytime I go to reset it(iphone), these images appear in iPhone window, and of course it keeps me from getting my phone back to normal settings. So can anyone help me please???mahalo iPhone OS 3.1.3
Occasionally when reading received SMS messages there seems to be a glitch happening. This happened on my 3G S as well and leads me to believe it might be an issue with how I have something set up.Pictures:Seen here is 3 recieved message for my data usage. As you can see, the 2nd message received is displayed as an arrow.Clicking on the arrow only leads me to a black image.Message was edited by: Stewey956null HP Windows 7

Hi, has anyone else encountered this error? Ive contacted Apple but have had no reply and a search hasnt encountered any similar errors. Im using an Iphone 3G and upgraded my itunes last night to 9.2.0.61 in order to get the iso4. Its as though the phone has frozen and all I get is an image of the USB connection for iTunes. Im using windows xp and tried this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925. Nothing. I tried restoring my Iphone through this : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925. Nothing. When I connect to Itunes, it recognises an Iphone is present, but that is it. I cant do anything and the USB connection image wont go away. I then subsequently get the -9812 error on my iTunes. I dont have another computer to try my iphone on. If anyone has encountered similar problems with the -9812 errors and more importantly solutions it would be nice to hear. Thanks. Hey all, I have a different mms problem after updating my 3GS to ios 4...Seems I can send mms and videos just fine, however the end receiver just sees a still image and hears the audio. Ive done a lot of tests with this, and my wifes 3GS does the same thing. But it only started happening when she updated to ios 4 ( on different AT&T plans and updated at different times) her 3GS is only a month old. Ive somewhat pinpointed this directly to ios 4, as any video I have shot with it will do this, but only if it is to someone without an iPhone, or with and iPhone but not running ios 4It seems kind of sporadic as well. I think it has to do with the way each app handles mms out. If Im in a text message and hit the camera icon and create a new video right there on the spot, Things seem to go fine. But if Ive already taken a video and its in my camera roll. And I choose to send that, #1 it doesnt seem to warn me about length that much anymore, and will just try to send the vid as is. #2 it doesnt do any sort of preparation with the vid, just pops it into the message and allows me to send. Ive restored, restored to new device, redownloaded ios 4, reset my network settings, and done pretty much everything people have suggested for other mms problems. Nothing seems to help. And yes. Mms is turned on in my settings and subject field is turned off along with group mms and character count. What it seems like to me, is that ios 4 doesnt have the same trim length or compression algorithms for mms as os 3.1.3 had. My friend who hasnt updated yet can send vids to my receiver just fine. It seems like the default maximum mms video length might be too long on the 3GS, and I end up sending videos that are unplayable to anyone but ios 4 users. Can anyone help, or has anyone else had this issue? Should I be calling Apple or AT&T about this?Message was edited by: DelrazorMessage was edited by: Delrazor iPhone 3gs iOS 4
Hey Everyone,I purchased my iPhone 3G back on February 1st, so I am only about 5 months into my first/new contract with At&T. That being said, I wished I had sprung for the extra $100 on the 3Gs due to the following complications you should all be aware of. If you are going to update to the OS 4.0 on a 3G phone you need to be aware that because of the phones processing power, backup restores have a 10% chance of actually restoring to the phone. This backup includes contacts, voice memos, call data, voice mail, etc. (the 10% figure is a ballpark figure based on the few whom have had luck)More than likely when you upgrade to the OS 4.0 you will not be able to restore backup information as mentioned above. I am not sure why this happens, but the best idea I can come up with is that the backup files somehow become corrupted. This could be due to a number of things: Itunes 9.2 is not installed properly, Bonjour is interfering, the copy of the OS 4.0 file was somehow corrupted in downloading (its possible due to the number of iPhone owners downloading the software at the same time), activation servers could be lagging, your phone was not properly ejected/disconnected properly from last backup, iTunes could have a unknown bug interfering with the upgrade, as well as many other scenarios I could post here.I spent nine hours trying to get the OS 4.0 onto this device using my backup info. After it was all done and said, I realized that was never going to be possible. My phone too did the cycle of being stuck in restore mode. This was solved by simultaneously holding down the power and home button, waiting for the apple logo to appear and immediately taking my finger off the power buttun and still holding home until the sync cable image appears. (the hold time for this varies from 7-20 seconds)From here I repeated the update process and instead decided to restore as a new iPhone. I lost all my information except my apps. So, some tips if you decide to upgrade the OS.#1 - somehow back up your contacts via pen and paper or some other method that works best for you. Email suits like Outlook can be used to back these up (how I am not sure, but it is possible.)#2 - make a copy of the iTunes folder of your applications (right click Applications folder>click copy> and paste somewhere else like your desktop as a back up, JUST IN CASE IT DOES NOT SYNC YOUR APPS THE FIRST TIME.) Depending on the number of apps, this can take up space temporarily, so make sure you can accommodate the temporary copy. (the copied apps folder can just be deleted after youve finished)#3 - back up any photos or video on your phone via email or syncing them into your iTunes, and copying the files to another part of your computer. (This is what we call a better safe than sorry scenario)#4 - once you have your info and collections backed up if possible, erase them off of the phone manually. This frees up update time and makes a smoother faster update.#5 - Go ahead and retry the update or attempt the update at your own disclosure. Remember, you will have to set the restore to a NEW iPhone, not the back up.This is the method that worked for me. I will note that the phone sometimes lags, keyboard entries lag at times, but otherwise it looks nice. Very few new features, but its enough for a taste to make you want a newer model. I hope this helps some of you out there. I spent nine hours working this out only to goto work with 4 hours sleep. (Yeah, stupidly dedicated right? LOL)-JCubMessage was edited by: JCub85 3G iOS 4
My fiancee has an iPhone 3G and is quite attached to the trees wallpaper that came as standard with iOS 3. However, having upgraded my 3GS to iOS 4 I see that most of the old wallpapers arent included in iOS 4 and have now disappeared from my phone. Is there a way to keep these, transfer them across, or download them? I cant see any way of emailing wallpapers, as they arent in the photo roll, and taking screen grab doesnt work as you cant get the clean image.Any ideas?CheersMartin iPhone 3G iPhone OS 3.1.3
I just got and set up my new iphone 4, and almost everything is an improvement - except that I dont want any wallpaper on my homescreen. I prefer the plain black background visually. Is there any way to get this through settings, or should I just take a picture in the dark or of a piece of black paper and use that image file? Thanks! iPhone iOS 4

Hi All Ive had my iphone for 1 year now. about 3 months ago I dropped it and smashed the screen. stupidly, I didnt take out insurance on it. I decided to buy another screen and replace it myself there voiding any warrenty. after replacing it the screen has worked perfectly. the other day I tried to make calls and the sreen started to jump from app to app not opening up what I wanted it to. now the screen is frozen on my home screen showing the time (which ticks over fine) my personnal background image, but I can not swipe to get to apps. its tottally non responsive. Ive tried all the tricks like rebooting, and also resetting it to the manufactures settings. Im guessing its a hardware fault.Where do I stand with getting apple to sort this problem out, bearing in mind it has a non apple glass screen?I use this as my bussiness phone and I am in desprate need of getting it working asap.
Not to beat a dead horse, but I couldnt find discussions that completely answered my questions. (My second question is the one I am most looking for an answer to.)1. I am currently an iPhone 3G owner, which is my first-ever iPhone, and naturally I plan to get the iPhone 4 as quickly as possible. I am planning to pre-order it through Apple (in order to pay via debit card) and have it shipped to my house. Since AT&T has sped up eligibility, I will be able to get the iPhone for the fully subsidized price through the Apple website, correct? Also, I currently have the unlimited data plan for $30, and I want to change that to the newer, 200mb plan for $15. (I almost always have a WiFi connection, and therefore only use about 100-150mb a month.) I know I would need to go to an AT&T store to change my plan, but would I need to do this before pre-ordering (and possibly lose upgrade eligibility) or after I activate the new phone (and possibly lock myself into a new 2-year contract with the $30 plan)? Or is this simply something I would have to go to AT&T about? I wasnt sure if anyone on here would have any advice.2. As I said, I have the iPhone 3G. I know that when I activate my new iPhone 4, it will deactivate my old one. I had originally planned to give my old phone to a friend or family member, to be used more in the way of an iPod touch- it would not be used as a phone. However, if the 3G is deactivated, does that make it completely useless (such as, no playing music or games on it) or does that only make it useless as a phone (can still access the home screen and apps, etc.) If I cant give it to someone to use like an itouch, it seems pretty pointless to keep it around, and I would probably sell it to someone to use as a phone, but I would much prefer to give it to my father, boyfriend, etc. to use as an itouch.Any help would be greatly appreciated!
