Cant see recent backups when trying manual backup or restore iphone

My iphone crashed the second day I had it (2 weeks ago). I immediately did a restore from the summary page in itunes. I have since had other problems caused by an application. All apps and functions working fine right now, except at this point I see no other backups listed other than the one done on the second day when I look in the backup list accessed by starting the MANUAL restore process. I dont even see any manual backups I have performed. I synch my iphone once or more per day. because of this (I think) I am losing all app data whenever I have to restore after crashes because I cant choose a more recent backup to restore from. Im a new iphone user and have searched and googled for an answer to my question, sorry if this has been discussed previously. Are music flies the only custom ring tones available to the iphone? My wife has a LG Spyder and she is able to bluetooth custom ring tones between coworkers (crocking frogs, quaking ducks, etc...). Are similar ring tones available for the iphone? I realize you can create custom ring tones via itunes using music files but Im really not interested in that. I bought my iphone 8gb (3G) back in November. I want to get a second one with more space. Nothing is wrong with the 8gb, I just want more space and a back-up. Has awlays mounted via USB port no problem until a couple of days ago. Stolen iphone Contd. 3G

On Christmas our flat was burgled. Among stolen things was iPod Nano 16GB (red) with engravings, iphone 3g 16GB and iPod Touch 2g with engravings. iPod Nano and iphone were Christmas presents and yet unregistered, iPod Touch was 2 months old and registered. itunes require registration and obviously my stolen property will be connected to itunes and possibly registered. No doubt we have all receipts and crime reference number proving that we are the rightful owners. Both ipods were purchased from Apples UK online shop and iphone on O2 Pay as You go from Carphone Warehouse. Questions does itunes and Apple cooperate with police and rightful owners in catching thieves? Does itunes and Apple collect information on items that were reported stolen so that those serial numbers are recognized? Does itunes and Apple inform law inforcement agencies then stolen items are registered or reregistered on itunes again? What is the procedure to inform itunes or Apple that something was reported stolen? And the last question … If itunes and Apple does not do any or some of these things WHY DON’T THEY DO IT? Activation screen comes up on an already activated phone iphone 3G

Ive had an active iphone 3g since July. Twice in the last 24 hrs: once when home button pressed to awaken after just being in my pocket and the other time when powering on after being off for the night, I got the screen graphic showing connect to itunes to activate (graphic of cord and itunes logo) as if the phoe were brand new, with no service and only the ability to make a emergency call from the keypad (after slide). Luckily I was near my computer both time but may not be if it happens again. Once attached to computer and device recognized by itunes, the phone screen says iphone activated and everything is back to normal. All my apps, tunes, contacts, etc are still there.I take real good care of the phone. Never dropped; usually in my pocket when not in use. Software says up-to-date.Never happened previous to yesterday and nothing different that day. Anyone else having this issue? Any recommendations? Apple support said to restore the phone via itunes. What a hassle, with all the backing up I have to do. But if that is the only recourse, Ill have to do. Its like, well weve never heard of that one so just restore it - an easy answer. I recently upgraded my iphone 3G to 2.2 and about a week later I was getting a error sending message when sending text messages. I can receive text just fine. I have tried restoring using itunes and even had the ATT store tech swap the SIM card with no results. HELP!!!!!!! I am very upset with ATT and Appple. Ok, Im using 2.2 software version on my iphone 3G. Its not unlocked or anything. the problem started last night, when I tried to call someone in my contact list. Ill dial the number and it automatically goes to Call Failed, it doesnt dial or even attempt to. I can sends text messages, receive phone calls, and get online. Just cant make phone calls.Heres what I did to try to fix it.First I cut the phone off and powered back on. Then tried a soft reset by holding the home button and power button down. After that didnt work I restored it to factory settings, which didnt work. Then I restored from a backup, but it didnt work either. Ive tried everything people have said on the internet, that doesnt require unlocking the phone.Please help!!!!**edit** - Ive also removed the SIM and restored to factory settings. Ive been having various problems even after restoring from backup multiple times. At the Apple store, I was told to restore and select setup new device instead of restoring from backup, incase my backup was corrupted. the rep told me that itunes would download fresh copies of the operating software, firmware and all apps. Is this true? At no point during the process did itunes appear to be downloading anything. I want to make sure I did the most thorough restore possible. Thanks!! iphone 3G 16GB

iphone takes nearly an hour to back up and sync

Can anyone shed some light on this......both my boyfriend and I have iphones and we have a macbook. the main user account is mine and then I created a user account for my boyf so that he can sync his iphone independent of mine, with his own itunes etc. My iphone backs up and syncs really really quickly but when we try to sync his phone on his user account it takes at least 3/4 of an hour and sometimes an hour +.Does anyone know why this might be? iphone 3G-Dead on Arrival

On 24Dec2008, I decided to do a handset upgrade with Vodafone (in Australia, we have mobile phone contracts, and to keep you with them the telcos will offer deals if you sign for another 24 months) to get a 16Gb iphone 3G.I took it home, plugged it into the AC charger, then I plugged it into my laptop.Nothing. the Apple Logo appeared on the iphone screen, but (the latest version of) itunes didnt open, and my computer (a Windows XP OS) did not recognise that a device had been plugged in. I changed USB ports, to no avail. I got my sons iPod Nano, plugged it in, and recognised immediately.I went online, saw lots of hints and tips, and tried them (including holding the Off and Home buttons until the device turns off), still nothing.An important note - I have not attempted any hacks - I am quite happy to use the iphone on my Vodafone network.So my Christmas was ruined.I took the phone to my local Vodafone dealer, only to be told I had to take it to the dealer that I got it from. I took it to the Apple shop, and after he moaned about people buying Apple products from somewhere else and expecting Apple to support it, he at least tried to initialise it for me. No luck.So I rang the place that I got it from (they are about 70 km away from where I live, so I wasnt going to drive to them for no reason), and they said they would order me a new one. It is now the 7th of January, and they are telling me maybe next week.Is my iphone truly dead, or is there a secret thing I havent tried yet? I am almost ready to go get a Blackberry Storm. Sorry that was a little vague due to space limitations.. Basically, I got a replacement phone, and the guy at the genius bar said that my data would be restored to it when I sync it. Im a little concerned because sync-ing just got the black data off my phone when I had installed enterprise support months ago. so I thought Id ask if I should be doing anything special for the first sync to get as much info back in the phone as possible. side question: I noticed I have none of my address book despite using my old sim card. Some small problems with my new 3G iphone

Having some small problems with my new iphone, nothing major, just annoying.1. When I plug my iphone in to charge/sync my Adobe photoshop keeps trying to download the photos on my iphone, which causes an error message from Adobe that it cant download and it stops all syncing and removes my iphone from itunes. I have to unplug and reinsert USB cable and sometimes it works ok and sometimes I have to reinsert again. Also when charging, it will disconnect, reconnect and the samething all over again, photoshop trying to get photos and an error message.2. Cant send e-mails via 3G? I was very exciting to hear during todays keynote that downloading from the itunes store would now be available over the 3G network. But this option only seems to be available with music and not Podcasts. Or am I doing something wrong? Can anyone else download Podcasts over the 3G network? iphone 3G Speaker phone microphone mute issue

I have noticed a fault with my iphone 3G when I use Speakerphone. As soon as I select Speakerphone mode I can hear the caller but the caller cannot hear me. They hear no sound, not even faintly. the microphone seems to mute. However, when I switch back and put the unit up to me ear, they can hear me and I can hear them. When I got the iphone this function definitely worked. I now mostly use a Bluetooth headset so only recently (post software 2.2 upgrade) noticed the speakerphone defect. It sounds like a software defect rather than a microphone fault to me. Have tried a Restore but this has not cured the problem. Has anybody had a similar problem? I will call O2/Carphone Warehouse if nobody has encountered this issue, however, when I contacted them to question the lack of PUSH e-mail, before the last software upgrade, O2 tried to tell me that it was my e-mail provider that was at fault! Please help My itunes just stops during sync but says Sync In Progress iphone

Ok Ive tried syncing my iphone to itunes and it just says Sync in Progress. It never stops. Now it makes it through the Backing up iphone portion but as soon as it gets to syncing contacts, it just sits there saying its Syncing contacts with iphone. Now Im not sure why its doing this, this just happened out of nowhere, so Ive even restored the phone twice, once as a new phone and then again with the option it left from restoring it the first time. It syncs the music, apps, and videos when I uncheck everything in the Info tab, such as contacts, calendar, etc. So its something to do with everything in the Info tab. Synching Irritations. iphone 3G

Two really annoying things that continue to drive me up the wall:1) Every time I want to transfer pictures onto my phone or maybe just even one new song, why does itunes force me to do a complete backup of my phone? What would take 10 seconds ends up taking 20 minutes for absolutely no reason.2) Why when I opt not to sync ALL of my apps, does it tell me it will REMOVE Them from my phone completely? No! Why would I want them DELETED? Since when does not copying over something that is ALREADY ON the PHONE mean that I want them deleted completely from the phone? It doesnt make any sense. None. If I dont have them all checked, it will delete the one not checked.I tried to not sync my apps so that I could speed up the process of just syncing my photos. So it tells me its going to delete all my apps if I do that. itunes is such a miserable failure in the world of Apple/Mac which dominates the logic/useability world in every other arena. It continues to confound me the absolute poor structure, logic, and programming of their flagship software app.I mean seriously, how hard is it for this application to know that its already got all my apps both in itunes and on the phone? Every time I connect it, it starts copying over my apps all over again. Why? Is this 1983 when it cant tell if the app has been updated and needs synching? If someone can give me some input on these items I would appreciate it. VAIO

questions regarding syncback up iphone 3G

Hello. Ive recently had some hard drive issues on my laptop, which forced me to reformat my hard drive. My iphone now thinks I am using a different computer, which I guess means I need to resync and delete everything on it. What a pain...I have some pretty straight-forward questions, and Ive searched the forums looking for answers but havent found any yet, so excuse me if these are asked 1,000 times a day:Will backing up my iphone really do me any good, in the long run? I guess Im confused about what actually is preserved by doing this.What exactly is lost during a new sync? Will I lose all of my contacts, text messages, and pictures? Or will it just be any music and pictures Ive synced via itunes? I want to know if I need to type out the numbers and contact info of everything.What about all of my apps? iphone will not show up in itunes 3G

My iphone refuses to appear in itunes 8.0.2. When I plug it in, iPhoto opens immediately and downloads pics but nothing with itunes. I ran Disk Utility and the iphone does not show up in there either (I dont know if its supposed to show up in DU). I restarted the Mac. I restarted the iphone. iPhoto has no problem seeing it so the cable is good.I then tried at my MacPro at work and it showed up in itunes without a problem so the issue is definitely with my iMac G5 or my copy of itunes.Any suggestions?Gary iMac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.11) 2GB RAM

i recently purchased an iphone 3g 8gb. loved it and everything worked flawlessly with it. i released that the 8gb wasnt enough so i went out and exchanged it for a 16gb phone instead. so i came home to sync it with my itunes and its stuck in the sycing stage. its stuck on syncing contacts. i have restored it and tried to uncheck the options to sych with and no matter what it gets stuck syncing anything. can anyone help me out with this. id like to be able to use my new iphone instead of watching it sycn. it is using software 2.2 please help! imac 24" Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Dropping to GPRS during call iphone 3G

While on a long call that started on 3G, I noticed my computer speakers suddenly started chattering at me, so I moved the phone and continued the call.At the end of the call the phone had the blue dot for GPRS where the 3G dot should have been, which means that sometime during the call the phone fell off 3G back to Edge (perhaps) and then to GPRS. I was connected by wifi as well, so I didnt really NEED a 3G connection for data, but I was surprised to see it fall all the way back to GPRS.All of this was seamless to me (other than the chatter, so the iphone handoff issues from the old 2.0 days are clearly fixed and handoff is pretty seamless.the question I have, is do other people see this fall back all the way to GPRS during calls? Problems with iphone

I have many problems using my new 3G iphone and its really starting to annoy me.1) When you go into a lift and the reception of the phone cuts off - It takes absolutely ages for the signal to be restored. Around 5-10 minsSometimes if you leave your phone idle on the table and the reception cuts off - it could take up to 2 hrs....and i end up with 15-20 voice messages.Is it just my phone or does it happen similar to other users as well?and 2) - by far the most annoying is the texting function. I can text and receive a text from someone no problem but when they reply back.....I cannot see their name. e.g. I go and Text John on 12345678....and then when John replies to me...I get the number 44-12345678...(if in the UK). the phone doesnt recognise that it is John...When you hit the call button - it doesnt call John cos the country code should be +44.Same thing with Hong Kong ppl texting me - always I get replies starting with 852 instead of +852. I dont end up seeing who from my phone book is texting me and have to end up looking up the number..any remedies?Thanks Other OS

iphone 3G wont backup.

Ive had this problem for awhile. When I plug my iphone in and itunes opens it shows it backing up. the status bar grows real slowly and then basically stops at a little less then half way. Why is this? I already deleted the current backup, but I am still having this issue when I try to sync. iphone top sleepwake button not working Apple Logo screen at startup

I have the original iphone. I have two problems, both just happened tonight at the same time. For seemingly no reason just my iphone external top sleep/wake button is not working. I tried powering the phone off and back on. I tried resetting my iphone, and restoring it. I made sure my iphone software is up to date. None of these remedies have fixed the button. the button doesnt look broken, it pushes in and out, it just doesnt work anymore. Second problem is, after I power my iphone off and then back on, the Apple logo screen will continue to flash on and off indefinitely. the only way to get my home screen to appear is to connect my iphone to my computer. Then it wants to sync. After syncing it then asks if I want to power off or cancel. Huh, why does is it doing that? To turn my iphone off I am pressing my Home button down until it shuts off, since I cant power off with the top black button. Is that the reason my phone is having the second problem, because I am powering off with the Home button? could it be my second problem is not a problem?My iphone 1 year warranty is over. I cant call Apple Care, there is no apple store near me. I need a solution I can do at home myself. Please help. Even if you think the answer is obvious please suggest it to me. Before tonight nothing was wrong with my iphone. It all started after I let my 6 and 7 year old nephews play with Google Maps on my phone for like 10 minutes - supervised. How to loan my iphone but retain privacy

Friends will occasionally need to borrow my iphone to make a call, check their email via the web, etc. I want to prevent them from reading my email. I can temporarily turn my email account off but it would be easy for them to turn it back on. iphone text message bug

When you type a line which ends on a question mark which happens to be the last character of the line before the text would wrap over the the next line then you cant push space. You can do a double space shortcut which removes the question mark and changes it to a full stop, then start the next sentence and go back to change the fullstop to a question mark. I havent tried it but Im guessing the same bug would occur for all end of sentence indicative characters (e.g. ! ?) Intel PC Windows XP Pro

I had a lot of data on my phone and i wanted to get rid of it. so i went to the settings and went to reset. then i chose erase all content and settings. that was at about 330 today. it said it may take about an hour and i tapped ok and the apple and loading bar came up. i left the house without my phone figuring that the process would be done when i got back. i got home about 2 hours later and my phone was stuck on the logo and i couldnt get it to go away. i tried reseting it and nothing. i let the battery die and nothing. its still stuck on the logo and ocassionally the little loading circle apears and once in a while it will vibrate or flash. can anyone help me? my phone is basically my life and i depend on it for so much. any advice is greatly appreciated. dell Windows XP

Strange iphone 3G mutes sponaneously

Hello,since three days my iphone 3G behaves a little bit strange.It started with spontaneous vibrations of my iphone in sleep-mode without touching it. When I woke it up using the home-button it showed the white bell-symbol for one second over the normal lock screen. No, I did not receive any SMS or email Then it became worse: When waking up the phone with the home-button, it showed the strike-through mute-bell and vibrated shortly. But the slider on the upper left of the phone was still up in normal mode! When I klicked it down afterwards, nothing happened. When klicking back upwards, the normal bell-symbol showes up again.This always happens when the phone is in sleep-mode for a few minutes. Mostly it shows the white bell while waking up (okay, thats no problem, but it isnt normal either), from time to time it switches into mute mode while waking up (THATS a problem!). I can only make it ring again by klicking the switch down and up again.I already did a restore using itunes, but that doesnt change anything. I did not install any new application which could cause the problem.Is there anybody out there who knows whats going on with my iphone??Timo Windows Vista

iphone Restore Help Please

I had to do a restore from backup on my iphone today because an app just totally messed up the phone. I restored from back up successfully i think all my info was back on the phone. the only problem is that now, since this is the first time that this has ever happened to me, when i try to sync it wont do anything. For example, i added new music to itunes, my settings are to sync automatically, but it wont do it, i manually have to take the song file and drag it to iphone icon on left hand side of itunes when the phone is connected for it to sync the song to the phone. I also now have to do this with ringtones that i make, and videos. When i go to the music section while iphone is connected and it says automatically sync selected songs, it did give me a message like if you check this, all your videos and songs will be deleteed.
