Today I completed a software update for my iPhone 5 without backing it up because I did not receive a warning that all my data would be erased and so, did not realize it would be an issue. Upon completing the update, I realized my mistake but figured it was too late to revert the damage and continued with the restoration of my phone to its factory settings. After completing the update, I realized just how much data was lost (including important notes with financial information and images and videos of recent trips around Europe). Now I am desperate to try to recover the data deleted in the update. Is there any chance at all that I can recover something? The notes and videos are most important to me. I am also missing many Messages but that is less important to me. Can anyone please help? Any response is greatly appreciated!

Canadian iPhone 5 in UK

Hello, I bought an iPhone 5 from the Canadian Apple store a few months back. I have just got back to the UK and inserted my UK sim card. I'm on Giff Gaff (O2) I can still make and recieve calls and texts. But most of my apps aren't working. Nor are any of my browsers. iMessage still works over 3G so i dont understand why my apps and safari arent sending or redceiveing data. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance, Tom

iPhone 4s stuck in recovery mode. Error code-1 .

I recently bought my iPhone 4s from a guy (who bought it from someone else). He sold it to me pretty cheap because when he bought it, one of his friends tried to restore it for him and it got stuck in recovery mode. I have no idea if the phone has ever been "tampered with" or not. He didn't seem to know much about it (said it was his first smartphone) and I thought I might have a chance of fixing it. I'm starting to lose faith in that...I've tried almost everything I can find. I know there are tricks for this all over the internet and I've tried almost all of them. TinyUmbrella does nothing, Redsn0w won't even install on my computer (frustrating!). Trying to restore from iTunes is useless. It gets to about 90% then comes up with error code (-1) and gives up. I've tried that route probably 20 times with no change. I know I could take it into Apple and they could look at it, but I have no information on the phone itself. I cannot get the serial number. Does anyone have any suggestions at all? I'll try anything that doesn't require me taking it to Apple and getting charged more than I paid for the phone to fix it....I run Windows 7. Thanks so much!

Brand New iPhone 5 Terrible Battery Life

I recently purchased an iPhone 5 (Monday, May 6th) and am convinced that the battery is defective. I attempted to get the phone replaced by AT&T since it is within their 14-day Return/Exchange policy, but of course they denied me based on it being a "technical" issue and therefore a problem I need to take up with Apple. Whatever that means.background info: Left the house around 10:00 AM, battery fully charged at 100%Finished class at 12:00 PM, battery dropped to 53% (VERY minimal use, I was sitting through a lecture)Arrived at AT&T store at 12:15 PM, battery at 51%AT&T Rep turns off LTE, Wireless, Location Services, Bluetooth and Auto BrightnessThe only apps that were opened/used were Text, Mail (fetch set to Manual) and SafariAT&T Rep says there's nothing he can do, but these changes should "help"Left AT&T 12:25 PM, hopped on bus, got home at 12:45 PM, battery drops to 43% (ZERO use)Call nearby Apple store at 12:50 PM to set up an appointment (Call length: 11 minutes), battery drops to 41%Call Customer Support at 1:30 PM to run remote battery diagnostic (Call length: 16 minutes), battery drops to 32%Apple Rep says the diagnostics looks normal...... Battery life: 30%Usage: 2 hours 26 minsStand by: 6 hours and 3 minutes This can't be right. iPhone 4S-Serial Number of replaced product

Hello everyone! I've got a problem with my iPhone 4S and I hope someone here can give me a hint on how to fix this... Last year in March I was on vacation in Las Vegas (I live in Austria/Europe) and bought a new unlocked iPhone 4S GSM in the Apple Store in the Forum Shops in Las Vegas including AppleCare+ (I just learned that iPhones can only be serviced in the Country where they are bought - my bad). Lately I was browsing through my Apple support profile and noticed that my iPhone was not registered there. So I tried to enter the serial number of the device and got this message:We're sorry, but this is a serial number for a product that has been replaced. Please check your information and re-enter your serial number. If your information is correct, you may need to contact us. I knew this could not be true so I called Apple Care here in Austria and first I was told that - according to its serial number - my iPhone has been replaced, and that it never should have been sold. I also was told that I have no chance of getting any service for this device despite the Care Protection Plan because the device is invalid due to its status as "replaced". And last but not least I was told that I could never receive any service for this device because American devices cannot be repaired in Europe (I was not aware of this fact and would have expected the salesperson in the Apple Store to tell me because I definitely told him that I am from Austria). Meanwhile I wrote an email to the store where I bought the iPhone from but it's two days now and I have not received an answer (or any indication that my email was received) yet. Is there anything I can do? Yours,Michael

How I get my outgoing server to work on my Iphone 5

I bought my Iphone 5 from Apple when it was first available. I have had an ATT acount for many years along with an MSN email account. I have had issues with sending email from my IPhone 5 since I have recieved this phone. I have deleted and readded the email application numberous times(sometimes 10 times a day), I have reset my phone a number of times, I have also changed my email password a number of times and readded to both my incoming server and outgoing server passwords. I have spoken to ATT tech support, Apple Tech support and Msn tech support multiple times, they have not been able to help me. I sometimes have  gotten it to work for a few minutes to a couple of hours but as soon as I try to send an email from my phone again it will no longer send an email from my phone. I use my phone for work and this is very annoying as I have to use my email for work.I need help!  I have had Iphones since the first Iphone and Mac computers for over 10 years but I am now over it, at this point I would not recommend Iphones. I am now at the point of buying a phone that I can use and it will not be an Apple Iphone.

Multiple iPhone 4S issues continuing

I am tired of my iPhone 4S already after suffering through issues upon issues with the device. My screen is having issues now where at a moment's chance it goes dim. I have to reset the device to get the brightness back to normal. I've tried restoring without any luck of this resolving. Another gripe I have is that I'm continuing to have issues with apps like Mail, Safari, and other Apple installed apps just continuously force closing. I've been sending emails back and forth on my iPhone only to have Mail force close and I lose everything in my message. The phone acts sluggish and performs worse than previous 4S devices I've owned. I've had issues upon issues across multiple iPhone 4S devices. The device I have currently is my 5th iPhone 4S and even tho its less than a few months old after it was sent to me after multiple filler iPhones of refurb models from the store, I continue to experience issues that make me use my iPhone less and less as it becomes more unreliable with the crashes and multiple restores. My closest store is not within close distance so that's made owning an iPhone with issues difficult as not every thread on the communities forum touch on half the problems I continue to have. Thankfully at least Siri knows where I'm located compared to my other devices where she always thought I was in Pittsburgh where I picked the phone up at my nearest store over an hour and a half away. Now everything just seems to be more of a deficiency with iOS and the hardware than anything. Obviously there must be something wrong with the latest stocks of 4S devices if my issues are continuing. When I restore I'm always setting up as a new device. I'm never downloading or redownloading anything from my Mac or PC. Everything is just redownloading apps from iCloud within the App Store and having a ton of missing photos in my photo stream. I just don't understand what is wrong with my iPhone. I never experienced these kind of issues with my iPhone 3GS so its hard to swallow how terrible the 4S has performed with every single device I keep getting. I'm at a loss on what I can do. Does anyone have any tips I should try that Apple hasn't provided me with to fix or at least band-aid the issue long enough till I can upgrade with my carrier?

HELP!!! I lost all my contacts for no reason, I was sending a text when my phone (with about 80% power) turned itself off, I turned it back on and all my contacts were gone! In my messages it was just numbers, no names. I went on itunes to restore from backup but it wont let me, nothing comes up. When I right click my device the only option is get is to back up, it wont let my restore from back up. The only thing I can do is restore to original settings but I want my contacts!!! Can someone help, I need all my contacts for work!!!!

Iphone 5 dust under screen

Hi,  Its been 2 months since i got my iphone 5 and i see dust getting accumulated under my screen. Its not a tiny spec or something but i see a lot of dust. So its pretty annoying to see that everytime i use the phone with a light background like browsing on safari or something.  Does this count as a manufacturing defect ? Can i get a replacement for this ? Thanks

Why are bits of my old text messages showing up in recent conversations iPhone 4

About once a month half of an extremely old text message will randomly show up in a recent text message that I will send to someone. The texts are always over 6 months old and its only half of the text, blended into the current text I'm sending. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Is there something wrong with my phone/ my friends phone?

Hey guys, I have a iPhone 4,I noticed when I switch the silent button off it doesn't show the picture(symbol) on the screen. No sound when typing, Recieving calls or messages, App sounds (background music etc) . Although i can play music just fine, When i go into my setting > (sound) i can select the ringtones and messages and they play back... Just wont play back when i recieve phone calls or messages.  (I've tried resetting everything, turning the iphone off.... Just been to the Apple Store in Stratford, London to get my iphone 5 replaced as the sleep wake button stopped responding. I was in and out and i was done. The member of staff who served me seemed very rushed and i didn't have his full attention so when we were going through the process it was a bit more unpleasant than usual. My concern is, when he asked me to erase my phone, i by mistake erased all my settings, rather than erasing all my content and data and due to his rushed manor i didn't get a chance to double check, then my old phone was in a box and under the counter. I didn't realise this had happened till i was on my way home, can anyone tell me that my phones content will be erased? as i dont particulirly want some apple repair guys prank calling all mny contacts, if anyone could reasure me with this, that would be great and put my mind at rest.  I did try and erasing it through find my iphone app but of course the sim card needed to be in the phone for it to connect to the internet.  Thanks, any help would be very much appreciated! Sam D

I was trying to recover a deleted text message and used Wondershare Dr. Fone to load previously deleted messages. I didn't find the message that I was looking for, but when I went back to my "desktop" - all my apps were rearranged and there was a photo I had set as the background 2 years ago. When I opened their program again to try and restore my desktop, I was prompted to purchase their software, which I cannot affort to do. Like many people, I rely on my phone almost as much as an extra appendange and am clueless as to how I can recover my icloud, apps, etc without spending any money. Do you have any suggestions. can i take iphone 4s into genius after been to service centre

HiSent my IPhone 4S into service centre as it was not charging the battery anymore. They have told me that there is physical damage to the dock connector and that i have to pay a "Fee".I spent a long time on the phone with them explaining that this is rubbish, the phone is always in a full case and i've always used the original sync cable, never rammed it in, never even found it tight or anything, etc etc. there is no way that the dock has been damaged so i suggested that something may have failed in the connector itself and then when i have plugged the sync cable in it has caused the issue? They totally dismissed this and told me to make the choice - pay the fee or have a dead iphone back.I am not prepared to accept this, my iphone gets treated like the crown jewels and no way has it been subject to damage - i want to know if i received it back and took into a genius bar to explain would there be a chance they would repair or replace (The phone is still in the 1yr warranty)Any advice or assistance would really be appreciated - my long standing faith in APple is dimishing very fast!

I have no clue. When I question the AT&T rep about what app is sending updates out at 1:30am and 3am, she has no clue. When I try to check the bill to see the texts, some I KNOW are from me are not there because the phone is sending updates or something. She turns her apps off at night and it still does it.

After sending text to contact contact cannot be deleted from cashe iPhone 3G

Since the ios6.0 update, deleted contacts can't be deleted from the new message case. It is amazing that more people are not aware of the problem and are speaking out about it. As a professor, I have new students whose contacts I input into my iPhone each semester after sending a text mail the contact cannot be deleted from the "new message" cashe. It can be deleted from contacts but remains in the cashe. The only way to delete the cashe is a full restore. Resetting does not even work. Restoring is a horrible way to delete contacts permanently. I have contacted Apple repeatedly. They are aware of the problem but do not seem to be concerned. With each update, I expect the bug to be fixed. I hope to get the attention of Samsung with this. I know they could create another embarrassing ad campaign and Apple will resolve the issue in seconds. Apple is not the great company it used to be.

Hello together!I just recognized that the quality of Phone calls is very bad.The person who calls me sounds like a robot and the same for me to the other person. We just tried different things and find out that the bad speech quality just appears when we're using a protection case with a hardcover which covers the small microphone next to the camera on the back.I'm using the Griffin Survivor Heavy-Duty Case:http://store.griffintechnology.com/iphone/iphone-5/survivor-iphone5The camera, microphone and flash on the back of the iPhone 5 is covered by a small rubber that you can pull out and twist to use the camera.If the rubber coveres the camera und mic on the back it's nearly impossible for the other person to understand me because I sound like a robot. After I opened it while the phone call the other person can understand me very well again. I close it again - I the other person can't understand me again. We although tried it with different other cases with a backplate that covered the small hole on the back between camera and flashlight - and just put the finger on the hole and it's the same situation:If the small hole is covered I sound like a robot to the other person, if it's uncovered all is fine. It looks like, that the new background noise recognition is not working very well.Can anyone reconstruct this problem as well?  The problem with the robot sound that I hear from the people that call me, seems has nothing to do with the microphone on the back. SincerelySunrise

limit on amount of phone numbers allowed in Group MMS iPhone 5

I have tried searching online and could not find the answer to my issue, and have had no luck. I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 6.1.3 software which says on my phone that it is up to date.I recently have been using Group MMS to send out the same text to multiple people at once. It's great and all, but it will only allow me to add a total of 10 phone numbers to one group. If I try to type in an 11th person, that phone number disappears when I begin to type the text message.  I've been messing with it today and talked to another iPhone users and was told they have not had this problem with sending to more than ten phone numbers themselves.  I was wondering if there is a setting in the phone I need to change, is there some limit to the phone numbers allowed in a single Group MMS, is it a problem with the phone itself, etc.?   Thanks!

Hi,  I bought my iPhone 5 from Germany just after the launch.However I live in Turkey and I didn't have chance to try my iPhone before I got back to Turkey.After I turned back to my country I have noticed that there are several dust on camera sensor as you can see below pictures. In additon after a while the lock/power button stop working as well. Apple claims that Apple products have 1 year international warranty but this doesn't work in Turkey. Nobady gets responsibility of any Apple product if the customer buys it from any foreign country.  I don't wanna go to Germany just to visit an Apple store to solve my problem and I couldn't find any email address to contact with email.I am a loyal customer and I almost have all Apple products.  Could please check and advice a solution to solve my problem ?  Best Regards, Tayfun Tarı.

I got a new app called system utilities. It shows all the processes the phone runs. Apparently phone, email, camera, and App Store all run in the background. Now, three of them I knew and understood why they ran, but why is camera running? Can I cancel it? Please remember that it's running secretly in the background so it can't be closed normally. I only noticed this when I went to go send an email, and the incorrect name popped up. there is a SLIM chance someone hacked into my contacts since everything is password protected, but I guess I need to know if there is any way that a virus/hacker went into my contacts to mess with me. That seems unlikely as it was just my contact that was changed, but I still need to know. I recently updated my computer software to mountain lion, and I also updated software on my iphone. I was wondering if any of that might have made that change?

As title iMessage not sending pictures since update. It will send text format,I have tried all I can via the forums with no success. iPhone won't send pictures over my 3G pr wifi connection so must be a problem with update. I have never had a problem with sending a picture via iMessage but earlier (before I had updated to iOS 6.1.3), a picture I was sending failed to send after taking about 2 minutes trying to. I tried sending it to another iMessage user but it wouldn't send either. I've reset the network settings, I've turned it on and off, I've turned iMessage on and off, I've turned MMS on and off, I've signed in and out of my Apple account on my phone, I've tried sending several different pictures but nothing seems to be working. In all the questions I have read, the solution seems to be to do with the modem, however, my pictures won't send whether connected to WiFi or not, so I don't think it's to do with my modem. I have full signal and 3G and unlimited data usage. I really don't know what else I can try.

Is it just me, or has iTunes become just completely unusable on all platforms over the last year or so? I have a CS degree, work in Silicon Valley, and am nearing the end of my second-generation as an all-Apple household. If it takes me over half an hour to figure out how to download (and list) podcasts onto my iPhone, there's a major usability problem beyond my lack of savvy. In exchange for paying 2x for all my products ... I expect them to work! If we want sh*tty and unusable, we all know where to find that option. (And as I write this, iTunes, idle in the background, suddenly shoots up to eat 100% of both CPU cores.)

GPS on iPhone 4S

Hello Everyone, I have a question in reference to the iPhone 4s GPS.  I'm going to use google maps to find directions between 2 locations (point A to point B) while I'm on Wi-Fi on my iPhone 4s. Neither of the locations that I'm finding directions between will be my current location.  When I get to point A I will not have any cellular or data service whatsoever.  My question is if I use google maps (keep it running in the background) when I get to point A will it be able to give me real time movement (the blue dot) when I get to point A so I can use google maps to find my way to point B.  Will the GPS be utilized at the point?  Also if I hit the button on google maps to display my current location will it do that. All help and knowledge will be greatly appreciated.

Map backgrounds are not displaying on my 4s iPhone 3G

My iPhone 4S is running ios 6.1.2Apple Maps doesn't display any information at all. The location pin is visible but that's it, no map background is visible.This also affects other map based apps that use the map. Google Maps works fine, and internet access isn't a problem Any ideas?

Mail only working over Cellular no WiFi Networks. iPhone 3G

A couple of days ago my Mail service at home stopped working. I only can receive Emails when I switch off WiFi and use my AT&T 4G. At home I am using a whole Apple enviorment and all my devices (iPad mini (6.1.1), iPhone 4S (6.1.2), iPad (5.1.1), MacBook Pro (10.8.2)) can not receive Emails. When I am going to iCloud.com I can send and receive mails on my Mac, but over the OS X Mail.app and iOS Mail.app nor receiving nor sending works. I am using several Accounts on all deveices (iCloud, Yahoo!, Google and AOL) most of them are not working, only AOL received one mail yesterday. My first thought was of course the WiFi network which might have problems with the Apple Mail program, but I already tried another network with my iPhone. In this other network I am getting an error on my iPhone which tells me "Cannot get Mail. Connection to server failed." On my Mac at home mail.app tells me that my account are offline and that there might be a problem with iCloud, for more information visit iCloud support etc. Yes I did restart my deveices, yes I tried deleting and adding the mail account, yes I tried restarting the WiFi and yes I did that with iOS and OS X.
