Fixing wet iphone 4-flash light and on screen dead iphone 4S

There seems to be a lot of people out there dropping their iphone in the bath so I thought I would share my experience of fixing mine.Firstly if its in warranty consult your dealer - if this doesn't help try the following: A lot of people say stick it in bags of rice / silicon, etc but here is a quicker, more reliable way which is far less likely to contaminate one of the connectors. You do not need any special equipment. Make sure phone is off (If you can still see the screen) - hold sleep and Home for 5 seconds and tap the red off button that appearsPop your oven on a low heat ( less than 100C) for 5 minutes.Wrap your phone inside a sock, doubled over a couple of times so the phone is well protected.Turn oven offPop phone into oven for 30 minutes or longer preferably You could use a hairdryer but be very careful to keep it moving to avoid any localised heat spots that could damage components. If the phone got really soaked you might want to jump down to taking the phone apart - if it is still full of water powering up or charging could result in further damage Let the phone cool and try to power up, if nothing happens check for any signs of water vapour still in the phone and repeat if present. Otherwise try charging and powering up Still no success? this step requires a very small crosshead (some need a 5star) screwdriver, don't compromise and try and use a larger one, damaged screws will cause you even more expense. Very cheap on ebay. Unscrew the 2 small screws at the bottom next to the speaker, slide the back up and lift away. Unscrew the very small screw holding the battery connector in place and pry up the connector (lift the side nearest the edge first). Be careful not to lose the screw or the small metal bracket under the connector. Use the plastic tab sticking up half way along the battery to ease the battery out (usual there is a small amount of glue on them). This will reset the phone (you will not lose anything but the phone will hopeful power up when the battery is replaced). This is a good time to try the drying procedure again to ensure there is no more moisture present. Reconnect the battery screw everything back in place and press the wake button. If this has not succeeded you may need specialist help to test more components.Good luck ( and I cannot stress enough - keep the temperature low when drying)

Compass don't allow true north iphone 4S

Hi I have an iphone 4S running iOS 6.1.3 The Compass app that comes with the OS will allow me to display a heading in magnetic north but not in true north. The true north option is grayed out. The magnetic heading displayed is accurate. I have location services turned on and compass calibration turned on too. Compass displays my correct LAT & LON. Magnetic and true north options working before. I tried powering the phone off and back on several times.Sometimes Compass allow me to select the true north option, but when i click done the app switches to magnetic north itself. Anyone have seen this?Tanks a lot.

Location Services Won t Turn Off iphone 3G

I have an app Shop Kick and for some reason today the location services on the app will not shutoff (I have the location arrow on the top right and when I go to settings location servies the arrow is purple next to shop kick app). I have had this app now for 2 years and the location service has never continued to run on the app. I tried doing to double home screen tap and killed the app but it according to my phone it's still using location service even after I killed the app. I then tried to turn off/on my phone but still even after powering on/off it's still claiming to use location service. What's going on?

iphone 5 wet works after drying for 10 days-screen still dark not black backlight

Hello...I hope someone out there can help. I am very un-technical, and I'm afraid to ask my husband, who isn't, for help until I have exhausted other possibilities. I was browsing the internet on my new iphone5 when it slipped headfirst into the lukewarm, half-empty cup of black tea on my lap. So it was partially submerged in tea for about 1 second. I yanked it out, dried it off, shook it out, then not knowing what else to do at 4 AM, grabbed the hair dryer and very gently and very briefly blew air towards the top openings (speaker and pone jack). The phone had worked for a few seconds after I retrieved it, but I didn't know to be sure it was turned off...i just assumed (I know, I know) it was turned off since the screen was totally black. About ten minutes later, when my previously out-of-battery ipad was charged enough for me to look up "wet iphone" I put the phone into a bag of rice and kept searching for help online. About 30 mins later I had the SIM card removed and put the phone back into the rice. Left it in rice for 1 full day, then when when I could finally get to a store, I put it in between two "damp-rid" type packets inside a lunchbox on top of my water heater where it is warm. I left it alone for four or five days, then tried turning it on. nothing. Then I put the sim card in, and felt the little vibration of a phone powering on!! Screen was almost completely dark, so I returned it to the damp rid coffin it into the damp rid container for Another few days. Ans so, the exciting conclusion: Just now, I connected it to iTunes and could see very faintly enough to use the touchscreen. Reinstalled everything, and made a call to my husband so he won't wonder why I haven't called him from my iphone for ten days. Everything else seems to work but I want to know if I can fix the screen in any way. There are no apple stores in Germany yet and I don't want to buy a replacement phone. Techie: Can and/orShould I take it apart and look for corrosion? i have read some DIY tips for older phones on other forums but not for iphone 5. Any help or advice appreciated. Thanks for reading.

My Contacts Journal Professional CRM Journal crashes at initial seconds of iCloud Migration. Has with this application experience this situation. developer has been contacted. iphone 5

Dear Contacts Journal Support Team, Each time i have been trying what you put up for me,i always delete The Application Completely, then go to iTune Apps Store to re-download it. I know the apps store will not give me an old version, that is why i do not use my Mac or iMac to replace the application however this has also been updated on my Macs. I reiterated in my message yesterday that,it is not that what you asked me to do is not working or i did not follow your instructions into details. I did follow every steps you stated. The end result is that, WHEN IT REACHES DATA MIGRATION,THE SCREEN WILL BE BLACK OR LIGHT BLUE BLACK,WITH A WHITE SCROLLING LINE THREAD ON THE DEVICE SCREEN,MEANING MIGRATION IS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE. THIS WILL MOVE FOR ABOUT 2 or 3SECONDS,AND IT WILL CRASH. I have tried this several time,i do not mind starting all over again,i just want it to work with iCloud. We can give you feedback, and i praise your effort for not getting tired to respond. This is a good and real customer service assistance of which i really appreciate. My devices are up-to-date,and the application i download is the latest version. Please let's makes this application work, there is non like it on The Apps Store. So you should be proud of your work and your innovation which i see as very powerful as well as extremely useful. But when it becomes unworkable it render all my eulogies to your effort meaningless. Thanks for contacting me again and i hope you will make it work again. Please forget about my previous DATA,i want to start it NEW. But you can not turn ON & OFF even the iCloud on Contacts Journal. Thanks a LOT. The Reverend Canon Dr. IBITOYE. Sent from my iphone 5⃣ Highly reliable especially when you are on the GOOOOO!!!!! If you are running the previous version of the app (3.2.1), then this crash will definitely happen on iOS6.1. You need to upgrade the CJournal app to the latest. After updating the app, you will have to follow the same steps as before, including cleaning up the iCloud database. Regards. On Feb 12, 2013, at 7:13 PM, ADEBAYO ADETOYE ALABA IBITOYE <info@adetoye50.com> wrote: Dear Sir / Madame, Thanks for your lengthy information which is highly and diligently consummated and extremely digested. All what you indicated in your last mail,i have done it and all efforts is TO NO AVAIL. 1. I have got main 2 iphone 5 main lines, the other lines are subsidiary to my European lines and Dublin. So,i do not on or try to set them at the same time. 2. Please, kindly see it in this way, look at the year you have released this application,i have not made or bombard you with this kind of problems. 3. We just sent you an email an hour before you sent this one!! It had instructions on how to overcome this particular problem "Cannot sync since another device is syncing at the same time". It doesn't look like you followed those instructions at all. This is our detailed feedback, so please read and follow them closely::- you can only get this message when you are trying to sync to iCloud with CJournal. It means that something else got stuck while syncing with iCloud before, and it needs you to clean up the iCloud database for CJournal (as previously instructed, and repeated below)- there is no hope for us to recover your previous data. The best we can do is to get the app working again with iCloud, by cleaning up your iCloud data for CJournal- your old data was previously wiped out when you cleaned up the iCloud database without backing it up. There isn't any chance that we can recover that. Maybe the Apple iCloud engineers can restore that for you (though I doubt it). If they do, then let us know and we can figure something out. Meanwhile, follow these instructions for resetting your iCloud data:- make sure all devices are updated to iOS6.1, and running the latest version of the app (3.3) [you can check if you have the latest version of the app by going to the App Store on your device, then checking the Updates section to see if you see any update for CJournal]- make sure to turn off iCloud sync option in CJournal, on all devices- To clean out your iCloud database, you have to go to the Settings app -> iCloud -> Storage and Backup -> Manage Storage -> Documents and Data -> Show All -> look for Contacts Journal. (if you don’t see it, then look for “icloud” with a blank white icon). Here, press the Edit button, then the Delete All button. This will clean out your iCloud database. Note that it will take a few minutes for your data to be deleted from your other devices, and you shouldn’t try syncing any of your devices to iCloud in the meantime. - Now restart all your devices by powering them down, then power them back up again.- Now, wait 5-10 minutes for the delete to go through- On one of your devices, with the latest data, turn on iCloud. If it gives an initial message saying "iCloud data already exists", then press Cancel. It means it hasn't updated from iCloud that you deleted the data. You'll have to open the Settings app and go to the same Show All page again, just so the device tries to connect to iCloud again. Wait a few minutes before trying to enable iCloud again.- After it's done transferring the information to iCloud, wait a few minutes, then connect your 2nd device to iCloud and let it connect with the existing iCloud data. If it gives a message saying "First Time iCloud Sync", then press Cancel. It means it hasn't detected the data you just uploaded from iCloud yet. Try again in a minute. Please follow these instructions closely. Did you discuss this with the iCloud technicians from Apple? gps off since iOS6 iphone 5

Ever since upgrading to iOS6 on my iphone 4, and now even using my new iphone 5, it appears that programs that use GPS data are receiving inaccurate information. Strava, Motion GPX, and MapMyRide are all messed up now. The GPS is saying that the route travelled is about 125% - 150% of the actual distance. The recorded path shows up with lots of jiggles, and in many cases curly cues on paths that should be a straight shot. I've tried powering off, turning on/off wifi, turning off/on cellular. All paths are now inaccurate with iOS6. Anybody else notice this problem?

iphone 5 home button unresponsive

I purchased the iphone 5 on the release date and noticed that day that the home button would not respond when trying to turn the screen on and unlock my phone. I would hit the home AND power buttom 10+ plus before the screen would come on and I could unlock my device... I took the phone back to best buy on the 22nd for a replacement and I am now beginning to have the SAME problem with the exchange. Please note that the phone is NOT powering itself off or anything... the buttons just do not get a response... Anyone else having this issue? I assume with having it happen on two phones that I am prob. not the only person having this problem? May contact apple to see if this is a known issue.

iphone shutting down on its own wont boot normally iphone 4S

I've had my iphone 4s since May. Its worked pretty well in the time since, only problems being a few random restarts every now and then, but nothing so alarming that I was truly scared for my phone. I updated my phone to iOS 6 the day it was released, and other than the usual "won't activate with carrier" problem a lot of people had, which I quickly resolved, its been working fine. Until today. This morning my iphone shut down on its own, and would not respond to its normal method of powering up. The phone was only unplugged for 20 minutes, had about 99% battery left before it shut down. I plugged the phone in and there was no response. I eventually held down Home and Power for awhile and it booted up, worked fine. About 20 minutes ago it shut down again, same deal. Wouldn't turn on, had to do the home+power method. What could the problem be? Does it have to be replaced? I hope not. I didn't invest in apple care and can't afford to buy a new phone.

My iphone 4s has powered itself off on three seperate occasions all when battery has been fully charged. Still in warranty. Works fine after I press power and home buttons together. Why powering off though

My iphone 4s has powered itself off on three seperate occasions. The battery has been charged when all three incidents occured. It seems to work fine when I press and hold the power and home buttons together, but why is it powering itself off in the first instance? The device is still under warranty.

My home button won't work. What I to fix it iphone 4

I tried powering off and restarting but nothing is doing the trick. Phone was fine last night and then this morning it would not go home.

About a month ago I stopped getting consistent service for my iphone 3GS. I've spoken to my carrier and they insist it's the phone. I've taken the phone to an Apple store and they insist the phone is fine. I've gone back and forth between the two, but am out of ideas. I've gone so far as to restore my iphone, but I'm still having service issues. It's only at home and at work where I'm no longer able to get any service. I've also had some issue with the phone suddenly powering itself down where the apple symbol is displayed on the screen and I'm not able to turn it off or on until it seems to reset itself. I mentioned this issue to the Apple Genius when I took it in and they still insisted there was nothing coming up when they plugged it into their diagnositc program. My carrier's suggestion is to upgrade the phone and sign another 3 year contract (in other words, spend more money with them). Hubby's iphone 4 seems to work fine at home and has no network issues. I know I have an old phone and I'm wondering if they really do "degrade" like the carrier insists? It's no longer under warranty, so it would be cheaper to upgrade with the carrier, unless it's their network at fault, in which case a new phone wont solve the problem. Any thoughts or suggestions on what the problem could be? Do you think the phone's just 'dying'?

iphone stilllllll will not turn on

Heres the story, i did have water damage, but i pulled it appart had it completely dried, and it came back to life. two weeks later and it was still working fine, no problem with the battery holding a charge and no problems with the screen or responce... today tho i was at the doctors office, and shut it off. once i was out i tried to turn it back on and nothing, plugged it into my car charger and nothing, held the two buttons and nothing. i dont know how to make it restore since it seems to have no power even when i have left it plugged in for 20+ mins, so when i plug it to the computer it wont recognize a device... someone please give me hope that its not fried... it just doesnt make sence since it was powering and acting fine for so long before now!

iphone 4 not powering up

My iphone 4 suddenly went dead out of the blues without warning. I initially thought the battery ran out but it's been on charge for over 1 hr and it's still not powering up. It wasn't dropped or had any physical damage like contact with liquid etc. Has anyone got any ideas what could have gone wrong?

Receiving same SMS over and over iphone

Just headed to the apple store to get my iphone 4s (sprint) replaced bc it wouldnt turn off. never had a problem with the old phone besides the powering down issue. receieved a new one but now i recieve the same text over and over from not just one person, but a whole slew of people. any suggestions/tips/anything?

iOS 5.1 compass app on iphone 4 won t show true north heading.

I have an iphone 4 running iOS 5.1. The Compass app that comes with the OS will allow me to display a heading in magnetic north but not in true north. The true north option is grayed out. The magnetic heading displayed is accurate. I have location services turned on and the app displays my correct LAT & LON. I don't use this app very often but I'm sure both magnetic and true north options working before. It may have worked with iOS 5.0 and stopped working when I upgraded to 5.1. I tried powering the phone off and back on several times. I haven't tried restoring it with iTunes. Any thoughts?

Apps not opening after iTunes Syncing iphone 4S

I had to update my itunes, then I synced my iphone 4s to it to download some music and now my apps won't open on my phone. They flicker when pressed and nothing happens. I've tried powering the phone off and on and resetting it. I've also manually shut the apps down. What did I do???

iphone 4S powers back if powered off while on charger

Can't power off iphone when on charger, after a couple of seconds after powering off the Apple Logo will appear and the phone will power on again. Only happened after upgrading to iOS 5.1

iphone 4S searching bug

I have an iphone 4S and iPad 2 3G. Both with AT&T. I've had the 4S since it came out. I'm not sure when this started (a month or two ago), but when I turn off my iphone and turn it back on again, it sits in searching for a minute or so and finally finds a signal. Once it gets a signal it's okay (ie it doesn't lose the signal), also putting the phone in airplane mode and out only causes a search for a few seconds. Only powering it off and on causes the long searches. My iPad 2 doesn't have this problem, only the iphone 4S. I've tried resetting the network settings (which fixed a problem with the iphone 4S not downloading any faster than 2 Mbps), but it didn't fix this problem. The iphone also has a much higher latency (ping) time than my iPad recently as well. Any ideas why this is happening?

No s error on ios 5.1 iphone

I updadted my iphone 4S to ios 5.1. I now get a no SIM error. I have tried the usual ejectin sim, powering off etc

iphone 4s run warm losing charge in hours.

Last night, I went to bed with the iphone 4s on 90% charge. This morning, it was 1%I have 3G service but wifi disabled, bluetooth enabled.iCloud (other than locate my phone) disabled. All emails to 'fetch on demand'. My settings had not really changed over the last couple of months, where I can manage 2 days between charge. Today, I noticed my phone was running warm, and that I was losing about 20% charge per hour. I tried powering off and on.I tried shutting down all the apps.I tried resetting the network settings.Nothing made a difference. I purchased 'System Status', which allowed me to examine the phone system log.I had 4600+ consecutive folder syncronisation errors.I attribute this to the fact that I had created a calendar on Outlook, on my work PC.I had also created the account on the iphone, before I realised it would sync up.I then had 2 Calendars, I deleted one, the other had a '1' suffix, which I renamed on Outlook and on the iphone. The end result, I believe, I had the sync between the iphone and Outlook royally confused. I backed up the calendar on Outlook, deleted the calendar - the calendar on the phone disappeared.I then re-loaded the calendar on Outlook, the calendar on the iphone appears again. Now, I don't see repeated folder sync errors, and I hope that I have fixed my battery issue. In summary, 'System Status' or similar was a big help. Ideally, what Apple should do is have a 'iphone Repair' app which digs around and diagnoses problems. Or, preferably, if my phone reports back a problem that Apple send me an SMS to a URL of a solution to the problem, after all, I have gone to the trouble of reporting in problems, why not report back? Hopefully, this helps someone. ...Lyall

Button on top right of phone barely working doesn't click more. iphone 4

Hi, I've made my iphone 4 for just under a year now, so it's still in warranty. The button on the top right hand side of the phone (used for locking/unlocking, or powering off the phone) has malfunctioned today. It's still responsive, just barely, and is getting worse. It's very hard to get it to respond now. It's depressed into the phone a little bit and it doesn't click. I feel the spring or something underneath might have gone. I have kept the phone in perfect condition and didn't do anything to cause this to happen. As it's within my one-year warranty (expiring on the 24th February 2012), Apple will replace/repair my phone, right? Thanks a million, Conor

I just dropped my iphone into a cup of coffee. The flash stays on now, I can't hear through the earpiece when making a call and the sound in apps no longer work....But the ringer works and all other functions work. Only half the phone fell in (top half). Any suggestions here? Is it doomed? I tried powering it down but it won't....It powers back up. **sigh

Fixed Invalid S No S on iphone 4S AT amp T

Summary of Post - Fixed the "Invalid SIM" / "No SIM" errors on my US AT&T iphone 4S by getting a new SIM card from AT&T. Like many users on the boards, I recently developed an "Invalid SIM" / "No SIM" problem with my new iphone 4S. I'm in the US, on AT&T, with a black 32GB 4S. After activation late last week, about every 12 to 24 hours I would lose the AT&T signal bars at the top, the AT&T indicator itself would vanish, and in its place would be "Invalid SIM." (I don't have a SIM passcode.) Other iphone features through WiFi would still work. For two days, a reset of the phone (holding the sleep and home buttons until the Apple logo appears) would get the SIM and the AT&T back. Today, however, it was stuck on "Invalid SIM" even after several resets. I took the extra step of turning the phone off, ejecting the SIM using a paper clip, reseating the SIM in the tray, and inserting the tray. After powering on, the phone would only say "No SIM"--an even worse problem--and no amount of resetting, powering off, or reseating the SIM would get it back to even "Invalid SIM," let alone working and able to send/receive calls. I went to the local AT&T store (a real AT&T store, not a partner store or authorized reseller) and they gave me a replacement SIM. I then called AT&T service to have to new SIM activated. I turned off the iphone, ejected the old SIM, installed the new SIM, and powered on. The new SIM seems to be working as I have the AT&T indicator back and can send/receive phone calls and text messages. This was a very frustrating problem, tempered somewhat by the helpful messages on this board and a nice AT&T sales rep at the store who was willing to help with no hassle. I have seen other messages where the problem reappears even after a new SIM, and as I have no idea what caused the problem if that happens to me then I will seek a replacement iphone. There may be some different or less draconian fixes that work for others, but I wanted to share what worked for me. I also wanted to share that -- at least at the Atlantic Station store in Atlanta, GA -- AT&T was willing and able to solve the problem in under two minutes.

RE:iphone 4s Charging Issues

iphone 4 stuck on boot screen even after hard reboot and wont sync

I need help - my iphone 4 is frozen, and I have run out of things to try. I turned it off, mainly just to clear out the RAM/things like that. Then, when powering on, it wouldnt get past the apple logo. I did a hard reboot, same thing. Another hard reboot, same thing. It freezes on the apple logo. And yes, Im running iOS 4.3, and it has been running fine up until now.It stays stuck on the apple logo. It wont shut off, wont go past it, just stays on the boot screen. I have tried plugging it into iTunes, nothing happened. Computer (Macbook) didnt do a thing, iTunes didnt see the phone at all. Ive tried plugging it into a wall outlet and hard rebooting, nothing. Its still just stuck on the boot screen. I have no idea what to do with this. I need to get this fixed - I do not own a landline, this is my only source of emergency/mobile contact. Thanks for any and all help! iphone 4 (GSM) - iOS 4.3 iOS 4

Missing Retina Icon iphone 4

I just updated to 4.3 the other day on my iphone 4 and noticed the spinning circle that appears when the phone is powering off is not optimized for the Retina Display. Is this an issue specific just to iOS 4.3? It bugs me that Apple has overlooked this, especially with the phone being on the market for almost a year now.Anyone notice this as well? iphone 4-Regular freezingcarrier missinglate texts

Hi, Ive decided to post a thread asking for help because I havent managed to find any information that relates directly to my problem.I bought a 32GB iphone 4 8 days ago on a pay as you go plan.Since then Ive had a number of problems. It seems to be a very common occurence (3+ time per day) that Im forced to reset or turn the phone off and back on again. Some but not most of the time it will be due to the phone spontaneously freezing. The second and more common reason is that I find after a certain amount of time I can no longer receive or make calls, send texts or browse the internet. It took me a while to notice this pattern because I could find myself playing a game and I wont know until I try to actively do something requiring a connection on the phone. During these times the reception bars appear to be frozen (usually at 1 or 2 bars although this may not be important). If I were to also check my phone settings at this time nothing shows up under my carrier settings even though I still have it in the top corner (O2-UK). One time the menu item disappeared completely leaving just Notifications as the bottom selection. As I said during these times I cant make or receive calls nothing happens when I hit call and safari tells me there is no internet connection present.Currently the only way I can solve it is by turning the phone on and off again. It might also be worth mentioning that when I turn it off the screen goes black for a few seconds as usual but then for a further couple of seconds a frozen version of my lock screen appears before powering down, this only happens when Im rebooting the phone for this reason. After the phone is on again I will receive any texts that I would have received during that time late. As you can imagine this is very annoying.Any help would be greatly appreciated. What do you think I should do? Thanks iphone 4 iOS 4 32GB
