Why Voice control not available for iphone 3G users

Rephrasing...I have a question about voice control feature. What kind of technology, voice control feature use that is not available for the iphone 3G? What is the difference on the new hardware that makes this feature possible on the iphone 3G S and not on the iphone 3G?I have voice control over the Vlingo - Voice App that is free on the App Store, is there a possibility that this feature can be included on future updates for the iphone 3G?Thanks Gateway Pentium IV HT Windows XP iphone 3G 16GB Black

Blutooth headphones and game sounds iphone

With one day to find this out on my own (with the new OS) I thought Id ask anyway just to keep you guys on your toes <g>.When I play a game with my blutooth headphones I do not get any sound. They do work with the phone, though. Does the technology that sends stereo music via blutooth also send sounds from games (and other apps), or will I always need wired headphones for apps? Thanks! pc

iphone Upgrade Costs

I understand everything about subsidizing costs and new technology and all of that. Yes, new technology will come out frequently so be prepared. It is just a shame customer loyalty gets ditched at times like this because it is largely those of us that take the first risks that get burned. I got the first iphone, dropped it and broke the face 1 week before the 3g introduction so I got the 3g. Now I would like to get an upgrade to the 3 g s and wham, I get slammed. The main difference now is that when my contract expires, the iphone has much more competition than before so.............Apple & AT&T, take note, the free enterprise system is alive and well so you may want to take some well thought out steps!! iMac Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Bought iphone 3G one week ago

Bought my 3G on may 29th. The AT&T store that I bought my iphone from stinks and wont pick up after 6 calls over an hours time. A good friend of mine who has had the 3G since the 1st day it came out told me (a few weeks ago), that the new iphone is coming out, however I can still download the new OS 3.0. I took that for granted and thought, meh, I just want it NOW and surely the new update will be fine. LOL @ ME, the new S model is sick. Like a turbocharged version basically. 200hp motor, or 300 hp motor, for same price...?!Ive been browsing around on here and want to confirm that this is true:If I pre-order the iphone 3G S (should do within the next few days, its hot), then take my originally bought 3G to my AT&T store, they will charge me a $20 restocking fee, and just exchange the phones. If I dont plan on getting the 3G S, and choose to keep my 3G, then I can just go to my store and get $100 store credit (I doubt cash?)Final question (of greater unknowing to me): I just registered my extended protection plan (2 years of warranty) a few days ago. That was $70. Not cheap. Would they transfer that over to my new iphone, or just completely ignore the fact that I spent $70 for an extended warranty? I could picture a big company like Apple trying to milk every dollar out of users.P.S. I FREAKING love the iphone, I mostly love playing games (Sims 3, and NFSUndercover) and it runs great. But the new features of the 3G S (not to mention 16GB rather than 8GB) just makes it a no brainer for anyone who uses their iphone at all. P.S.S, I feel really bad for those out of luck who has gone past their 30 day grace period (or will very soon)... things happen and technology is ALWAYS being updated. Sony VAIO Windows Vista

iphone 3GS youre breaking my heart .

I waited so long to buy my iphone. I thought it might finally be safe to give in and buy, I mean all those app commercials really did a number on me. (kudos to apples marketing team!) I figured that sufficient time had passed since the whole lack of 3g thing and I went on down to my local AT&T store and traded my Motorola Q9h for my first apple product, an iphone 3g. This was may 5th. Then I hear about the new improved iphone 3GS.... I could just scream! I asked the sales rep if anything new was coming too... Man. I know that technology is changing all the time, but I cant help but feel more than slightly ripped off. Sigh. Anyone else out there feel slightly jipped? I wish there was something for the consumers who purchased their equipment just outside of the 30 day exchange period. May 5th! And this better version of what I just shelled out $200 bucks for is coming out next **** week! And theres nothing that anyone at either AT&T or apple can do? I feel like such a chump. I wish I would have waited. Sony Vaio Windows XP

Quick question which sure has already been answer iphone 3G

So unlike a lot of people Im not completely upset with the release of the new iphone, technology changes all the time and there really isnt anything that you can do. That is unless you have extremely deep pockets. Anyway, with the release of the iphone 3.0 software will 3G customers receive the same beneficial upgrades to the camera (IE: will we be able to record video)? Simple question and although quality wouldnt be the same the current hardware should be more then capable of handling this feat.In the event that this is a feature that we dont obtain, then its not the end of the world. What up with my bluetooth iphone

So I am in my car which has built-in bluetooth connectivity so I can speak into my stereo and hear the other person in my car speakers while using my iphone. But when I dial on the iphone, my car stereo does not connect to it until the other person picks up the phone, so I usually miss the person saying hello and they have to ask again by the time it all connects. My dads blackberry is different however, I tried that and my car connects with that phone right when I dial the number and I can hear the ringing on my car speakers so when the person picks up, I can talk to them immediately. Do these two phones have different bluetooth technology or what? Thanks! Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Battery Tips and Tricks iphone 3G

The iPhones biggest limitation is arguably its battery. So what tips and tricks do you use to get the most out of it. Weve all seen Apples suggestions: http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.htmlBut what other ideas are out there to get the most out of your battery? Ill start with a couple:Understand Li-ion technology by reading up on it. Heres a couple of good sites: http://batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htmhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li-ionApple correctly points out that heat degrades Li-ions, so keep the batt. cool and out of a case when charging or under heavy use. But interestingly, what they dont mention is that storage at 100% charge degrades Li-ions even faster than heat (see charts at both above sites). So the least amount of time the battery is fully charged, the better. If you typically plug your iphone in every night before you go to bed, then youre likely at full charge for 1/3 to 1/2 of the batteries life. So what I do to reduce this time is hook my charger up to a $10 light timer that only provides juice to the charger between 6am and 8am, just before I leave the house and start using the phone. I still plug in before I go to bed, but the phone spends most of night at partial charge and only gets topped up just before I intend to use it. What other tips/tricks do you guys have? It just works well not really 3g iphone problems Plural

Ive been living with my new 3g iphone for about a month now and I have to say that Im really disappointed with how many problems Ive encountered! Heres a quick list of my issues.Syncing the iphone to my Mac Pro:Apps being transfered will sometimes hang and than crash my iphone. My iphone crashing will cause iTunes to crash. This happens OFTEN!App Store on the iphone:I cannot get this to run smoothly. Whenever I try and download an app/update directly on my iphone it always crashes and than gets stuck in a horrible loop of trying to download the app/update over and over again. The really annoying part is I cannot delete the half installed app. It just sits on my iphone ghosted and tries to reinstall itself every once in awhile. The most annoying part of is that it will always freeze up anything else Im doing on the phone!!!! So while its download/installing Ill go to my address book and BOOM it locks up my entire system!!!!! I hold the home button to try and get back to the main screen with no luck. I hold the power button but still no luck. I actually have to reboot the iphone by holding down the power button and the home key! This happens all the time! Contacts:Nine times out of ten Ill go to my contact list and it will hang for about 5 seconds before it will let me scroll through my contacts. If I hold the home button to force quit out of the Address app and than relaunch the app the lag is gone. Sure this is a work around but why shouldnt it just work!? Better yet why hasnt this been addressed in one of the two updates that have been pushed out????PUSH:I have my push technology turned on and set up properly but it doesnt always work as advertised! Plus I feel tricked by Apple into thinking that everything would push including my mail! Dont even get me started on MobileMe! Wasnt it demoed that if you change something on one device it pushes to the rest (between macs as well)! I know theyve publicly come out (after the fact) and said that its not the case and that it does not really work that way! Anyone else feel duped!Ive tried restoring my iphone a number of times and even had my iphone swapped out but all the same problem remained. Ive even restored the OS on my Mac Pro just to have a super pure system.Nothing seems to help. When will these software bugs be addressed? Im so tired of dealing with this buggy software!!!Ive been a long time Apple user and I cant remember ever being this annoyed with them! What happened to their old modo IT JUST WORKS!Anyone else getting as frustrated as me??? I know many people are suffering from individual problems (even some Ive mentioned) but is anyone suffering from many problems like myself???Has anyone found the updates to have helped or solved any of their problem or know of them fixing any of the problems Ive listed?I know the iphone is an awesome device but if the software makes you want to throw it out the window how cool is it than?? Im so tired of my iphone. I really wish I didnt feel like saying that! 3g iphone Mac OS X (10.5.2) mac pro 2 x 2.66 Dual-Core Intel Xeon - Memory: 4 GB 667 MHz

are better ways to clean an iphone- 3G

A funny thing happen prior to walking out the door this morning.....As always, Im normally rushing to get the kids off prior to going to work. Prior to going downstairs, I decided to pull my comforter off the bed so I could put it into the washing machine prior to leaving the house. I started the wash and did some last minute things prior to going down stairs. I made something for breakfast, and started looking for my iphone so I could leave. I called the iphone and did not hear it ring. After doing a scrub of the house, I remembered it was on top of the comforter when I woke up in the morning. So... I went upstairs to the washing machine and pulled the comforter out of the wash and found it in the middle of the comforter. I, as I would have to imagine anybody else would be, was rather POd. My iphone was lying in the middle of a soaked comforter being agitated by the washer. After calling myself a thing or 2, I pulled the phone out of the wash and immediately started drying off the phone. I noticed when I dried the screen that it displayed the missed call from when I called the phone while looking for it. Wow... The phone seemed to be working fine. I did notice some oddities throughout the day. The signal strength either showed no service, or very very low reception. Throughout the day, I kept trying various things and it eventually came back to life. I did notice the home button had stopped working. When I got home, I hooked up my iphone to my iMac and restored the phone back to factory default. The home button started working ( Yippe!!!). I have since restored from the last back and everything is back to normal. Wow!!!!In the end, I did have a good laugh. I have read blogs and uTube posts on the web where they tested the iPhones durability. One showed them immersing the iphone in water and phone kept working. I never fully believed the testing and certainly never planned on doing a similar test on my iphone. :->Have to hand it to Apple.... the iphone is one good piece of technology. Im sold on it!!! Got an iphone 3G but cant use most of features in South Africa-HELP

Hi there.I got my iphone about 4-5 months ago in South Africa. I love the hardware, I love the way it looks, what you can do with it, etc. But theres one thing I find really really annoying, and that is the fact that I cant use the phone features that users in other countries have access to.No, I havent run into any technical problems. The problem is that we have hardly anything available in our iTunes store. I invite you to switch your iTunes browser to the South Africa store and check it out... Yup, thats right, we have no music, movies, TV shows, podcasts or audiobooks. So what do we have? Some apps... yep some, but from the looks of it a greatly reduced list. Many apps Ive found links to on the net, which people recommended, are simply not in our store. Even free apps, for example Google Earth. But the most glaring omission is the Games category... yep, not a single game available to South African users. So, to get an iphone here requires a 2 year contract and another $300 on top of that for the 8GB version, so it surely isnt cheap... and yet I cant even make a custom ringtone because only music downloaded from the iTunes store can be used... I could do that on my very first Nokia phone which was a dinosaur w.r.t. technology compared to the iphone.I honestly dont understand it... So, what help do I need?I need to find out who I can contact at Apple to reason with regarding the content of our iTunes store. I find it unacceptable that people who hack their phones have a FAR better experience than people who do the right thing. So, if you work at Apple and read this or you know someone at Apple that could perhaps help me find the correct person/people to talk to about this, then please please send me a mail with the appropriate details. My email address is emile@van-reenen.com (yes, Ill even post my email address on a public forum )I dont think I am being unreasonable to expect a good level of service for a high end product, and at this point I am really unhappy with the service. Not the customer support etc, in fact the people Ive had contact with are helpful, except that they cannot provide me with the information I need.If you can help, then thank you very much.Take care.Emile MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Original and 3G 3.0 iphone Venting

Okay, Im one of a select few who had no desire to upgrade to the 3G since 3G is not available in my area. I must travel to Lex, KY or some surrounding areas to get 3G yet I rarely do so. So why is apple limiting some new updates such as MMS to only the 3G phone? I believe AT&T needs to start expanding 3G service or Im about to jump ship to say...Verizon, which a family member of mine has in my area that has 3G. Its going to be a tough sell the new blackberry storm over an iphone, but still, I cant believe the limitations Apple is putting on their original phones and not making AT&T keep up with their advances in technology. Moving to USA bought iphone in Japan 3G

Sorry I am completely helpless when it comes to technology, especially mobile phones, but I really have my sights on the iphone. Its getting cheaper over here, and there are all sorts of promotions over here, so Im itching to buy one. Im a long term resident, but may be moving back with my family in 2010 or 2011. My iphone will be one that is made for Japan, the software and all the other stuff. Of course language is not my concern, I am just wondering if, when I move to America, I will be able to change whatever needs to changed for it to work as an American mobile phone. What would you have to do? If they cannot be exported Im just gonna have to suck it up and wait till I move back to the states. sony vaio Windows Vista

considering iphone new technology

Hello, Rob here, I am some what low tech compared to some, none the less I was wonder about some things... seems like every time I get around to getting an apple product, a new and superior version comes out quite soon after. I know we all deal with this to some extent, but should I get a phone now or will apple release something worth waiting for this spring. Thanks for your opinions Mac OS X (10.5.6)

My Itunes account showing up on Friends iphone

Hi, Last week I was helping a work collegue set up his e-mail accounts on his NEW iphone. As his battery was almost flat, I hooked it up with my USB on my computer. As usual, iTunes automatically opened and the Would you like to register your iphone window poped up. I declined of course.Over the weekend he used the Itunes App on his phone, however my account came up as default, luckily he needs my password to purchase anything!!I was hoping someone could help me (and my work collegue) out in solving this problem. I dont think he has an actual iTunes account as yet (He is very new to all the Apple technology - and is not very tech-savvy to say the least) :-D So, I got a feeling that might be the issue, however just want some advice just incase. Dont want to be fumbling around with his phone if I dont need too!Cheers! Hewlett Packard Windows XP Laptop

Using only Wi-fi on iphone 3G

Hi everyone,I am writing here because I felt so frustrated today.I had decided to buy the beautiful iphone 3G. I went to the mobile operators kiosk and was ready to sign the 3 year agreement with them. Just before signing it I noticed some paragraphs that I needed to clarify with them.I knew that the new iphone supports 3G/EDGE/Wi-fi. Because I didnt plan to use 3G or EDGE but only Wi-fi (simply because I couldnt afford it and actually dont need it) I asked them to put a permanent block (thats what they say its called) on my account in order to prevent myself from using their 3G/EDGE network. The two agents that I spoke to told me that even if that block is put onto their system it doesnt protect me from accidental upload/download through their 3G/EDGE network.I asked them to answer how is it possible once the block is put by them to accidentally be taken off!? Only may be if it is done purposely in order to screw you. Of course they didnt answer. They stated that they had warned me and in case of accidental take off of the block I would be fully responsible for all the data charges. After finishing my conversation with them I was happy because I hadnt signed the contract yet.I dont believe that top company like Apple would do something in order to screw their customers. You,guys are just number One. While this thing that the cell operators do is definitely unfair and screwing the customers. They are absolutely aware that nowadays most of the people use VoIP because its a lot cheaper or even free. They cant stop the growing technology. But they hate it because its not doing any favor to them. One of the agents told me if I didnt want to have any surprises with the bill not to get the iphone.Anyway, I was smart enough not to sign the dangerous agreement with them.It is more than obviously that cell operators are not willing (to say the least) to prevent you from using their 3G/EDGE network if you simply dont want to. My question is to the Apple people or someone who can give me absolutely reliable answer. Is there a way through the settings of the iphone 3G to block/stop UNAMBIGUOUSLY the phone access to 3G and EDGE network of the carrier service provider and use only Wi-fi when I need? using in europe iphone

i know this has been discussed at great length...ive even read the very long thread (albeit locked) about using in non-usa countries. ive called at&t and they supplied me with an answer but it doesnt seem that simple.does turning off the data roaming function deter you from ANY data transfer to my iphone? at&t claims that as long as this is off, it will not download any data to the phone, but ive read a post where you can call them and ask them to turn off the edge/3g technology temporarily. it really doesnt seem that simple, and i really dont want to rack up $4000 in charges for a 2 week trip. all i want to do is disable the downloading data capability. im going to get an international rate so i can make calls for cheaper. im also going to set all the mail apps to manual connect and not push/fetch. short of taking out the sim card, does turning off data roaming all i need to do, or is there more.thank you so much to all that answer. home-built quad-core 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 16gb iphone 3g, 4gb iphone, want mac book baaaaad!!! iphone 3G direct integration with car stereo

Hi everyone,Im interested in integrating an iphone 3G (and possibly a 1st generation iPod Nano) with my cars (Toyota) factory stereo. Can anyone offer advice on products to look at? Im interested in a direct hookup, not FM modulator or cassette tape adapter, that:_ Leaves all factory functions active._ Allows me to use the factory stereo controls, including text and the steering wheel controls, but optionally the iphone 3G controls._ Provides charging esp. when the stereos off, but not with the ignition key out._ Allows the iphone 3G to still function for calls. Help Please Hands-Free Dialing with Bluetooth iphone 3G

Hi folks,After much research, I still cant figure out about true hands-free calling with the iphone. I just sent Apple the following message -- any help I can get with resolving this issue would be much appreciated.****************My husband and I just signed up for AT&T wireless service (snubbing Verizon service) for the simple reason that I could get an iphone. Imagine my astonishment on discovering that iphone lacks a built-in voice dialing mechanism. Thats like buying an expensive new house and learning that it doesnt have indoor plumbing, Sorry folks, you have to go outside to use the potty. Why is it that iphone for all of its technology, elegance and capabilites, doesnt have this one simple -- and to my mind -- essential component? My old Motorola phone with bluetooth was completely hands-free: simply press a button on the earpiece and state a command to place a call; answering calls was just another press of the ear button. I WANT MY HANDS-FREE DIALING BACK!! I dont want to have to dig in my purse and touch the phones screen in order to place a call while driving. Apple People, help me out here, please!!! Windows 2000

texting privacyMMS iphone 3G

i am sure that i am not the first one to post something about this topic, but i couldnt help be complain about these 2 topics. i cannot believe that apple has not done anything about the lack of privacy for sms. i hate how someone can be exploring my iphone, using the internet, or playing a game and i get a text message with the whole message and sender appearing for whoever to see. pretty much, everytime i give my phone to someone i have to put it in airplane mode (which means they cant even use the inernet at all). i also find it ridiculous that we cannot receive multimedia messages unless the other person can send it to our email, and when we send them we have to find out what service the other person has to send it like an email to their phone.with all the technology apple has developed youd think that they would have figured this stuff out, listened to their users, or atleast supplied a reason why they have not fixed this. iphone 3G Windows XP

ATT 3G versus Verizon 3G Network iphone

I really hope my query isnt edited or removed from this Discussion site since I feel it is a legitimate question to ask based on the inconsistent connectivity and speed some of us are experiencing on AT&T with our 3G iPhones...I was in a Verizon store this past Saturday swapping out my teens Env2 phone due to a mechanical screen issue... and while waiting and in front of the Tech Support person, asked if Verizon was using the same 3G towers as AT&T, or visa versa? The response from the Verizon tech person was that:1. Verizon uses its own 3G towers... and2. that Verizon distinguishes the difference and bandwidth between data and voice, contrary to AT&T who does not distinguish the two... which is why AT&T users (especially iphone users) are having connectivity issues on AT&Ts 3G network... not to mention (as one would suspect from any prodivder) that Verizons 3G network is a more robust and time proven network.2. The claim of Verizons distinguishing between data and voice on their 3G network is due to their separating the two... where AT&Ts data and voice is in the same signal.(??) I am not claiming the Verizon tech support person is correct... but am asking those of you out there who may be more familiar with the technology difference between Verizon and AT&Ts 3G networks to educate those of us out here regarding their claim? I wouldnt ask... but in the past few months on my iphone, despite being in a Dark Blue 3G AT&T coverage area... only 3-miles from the closest 3G tower... I dont even rely on AT&Ts 3G network and use my home Wi-Fi for consistency and still wondering why I am paying $30 a month for quick and reliable 3G connectivity with the provider having more bars than anyone else? My understanding of 3G technology is that a users connectivity and signal strength is dependent on the number or 3G users accessing a 3G tower at the same time... which determines the available signal strength at that time, and why one may visually watch the bars go from 4-5 down to No Svc in a matter of 30 sec to 1-2 minutes? DIFFERING PRODUCT INFORMATION ON MAPS FOR USUK-iphone

RE - iphone GPS blue indicator. I find it interesting - and would be interested if anyone has any input on this - on the UK site the GPS info for iphone says this - Get the signal. In addition to A-GPS, iphone features location technology unlike anything available on a mobile phone today. iphone uses signals from GPS satellites, Wi-Fi hot spots and mobile towers to get the most accurate location fast. So if you’re inside — without a clear line of sight to a GPS satellite — iphone finds you via Wi-Fi. And if you’re not in range of a Wi-Fi hot spot, iphone finds you using mobile phone towers. On the iphone display, the size of the circle around a location pin tells you how accurately iphone is able to calculate a location: The smaller the circle, the more accurate the location. On the US site it says this - ( BELOW )Where has the blue GPS indicator got to?!! Compare the second lines in each paragraph. Get the signal. In addition to A-GPS, iphone 3G uses signals from GPS satellites, Wi-Fi hot spots, and cellular towers to get the most accurate location fast. Am I missing something? The iphone/iPod touch come with a Notes application, and the preference panel Mobile Me>Synch has a Notes option available for checking. But since no Notes application comes bundled with OSX, what exactly is the mobile Notes application supposed to synch with??? It would seem to make excellent sense to include a Notes app. with future versions of OXS that would work with the same push technology as Mail, Address Book/Contacts and iCal. But in the absence of such a feature can somebody explain to me exactly what this synching option is supposed to do? Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Most satisfying indestructible shock-absorbing tank armor for iphone 3G

I need the best (best=highly satisfying) case in terms of protection for the iphone 3G I ordered. I know there are a lot of posts on this subject but I have very specific preferences and dont want to spend hours reading tons of posts on every channel out there. I like to first ask you friends out there whom I trust and have experience. Just imagine that I am a Marine going into battle, what kind of case would I want. What I need in a case:Hard protection for the iphone overallHard protection for the screen (perhaps most importantly from all the stories I have heard)Shock-absorbing rubber-like protection for if (God forbid) I drop itSeamless protection to protect the iphone including its ports and whatnot from the elements (dust, moisture, kids sticky fingers)What would also be nice:Near as possible waterproofingAccess to using the screenAccess to other functions, buttons, ports, etc. For instance, I would like to charge/sync without taking it out of the caseWont scratch or damage the iphone while being wornWont require me to take out a loanWhat I dont care about:Belt clip. Where I live, you dont want to be walking around with an expensive piece of technology hanging around on your person. You are asking for special attention. Looks, style, sweetness, yeah I know the iphone is sexy but Im more pragmatic and need protection for this very expensive and, lets face it, fragile machine. Its small and will be going everywhere. Looks dont matter much when youre a dead and useless hunk of nothin. Also, I dont care if it looks unprofessional or stupid, where I work you look as professional as you write (please dont take this post as an example of my best work), not by the jacket your phone wears.Bulkiness. I dont care how big the case makes it as long as it can still go in my pocket.I appreciate any of your recommendations whether they are from personal experience or something you have researched yourself. If you do have experience with a case that was meant to be high on protection, then please share your story. For instance, I know the Otterbox Defender is well-established, or how about those Ivyskins, but has any of them lived up to their names?Message was edited by: anthrovisualMessage was edited by: anthrovisual macbook pro Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Cost of upgrading original iphone to 3G technology

I would like to know what the cost would be to upgrade my original iphone to have 3G technology. I would also like to understand why there would be a fee at all since the new 3G phone is being sold at 1/2 the price that I paid for the original with Edge technology. Do I really have to incur the $400+ for the original and turn around to pay ~$200 for an upgrade? MacBook Pro Mac OS X (10.4.11)

Los Angeles hows your 3G Dropping calls and more dropped calls 50 DR iphone

I finally broke down and joined my league of I.T. friends who refuse to enable their 3G service on their new iphones due to the call dropping. I disbaled my 3G. I must admit that 4 days have gone by without dropping any calls since I went solely to the Edge network connection. It ***** that I can not take advantage of the 3G technology that I essentially paid for with this iphone. I mostly lose call driving or moving, and WestLA over the hill through the Valley seems to be the worst. My 3G drop rate is about 50% of all calls. I wonder if the next Apple update may address this. But it is very apparent that AT&T doesnt have a care about the network problems STILL occuring, I would hope Apple would. Whats your feedback and expirience? mac Mac OS X (10.5.4) na

Picture messaging iphone

Ive been a loyal iphone user and waited in line the first day both models came out and I love the phone. I know that the phone cant send/receive pictures. With that said, its about time apple fixes this. The iphone is suppose to be one of the most advanced pieces of technology and cant send/receive MMS. When you do get a picture message its absolutely ridiculous to look up on viewmymessage.com. The login is impossible to remember and not to mention a big waste of time.Apple im sure you could fix this with an update. Get on top of it! Youre doing your company a big disservice. Any iphone

iphone 3g hardware limitations

Gday Gang,Im considering buying the iphone, but the current functional omissions are keeping me from making the jump. Can anyone shed light on whether or not the hardware is physically capable of the following functions? Is it possible these functions could be implemented via a software update at a later date? (You need not speculate on whether or not you think Apple or a 3rd party company will provide the software)1) Bluetooth file transfer2) MMS3) Shooting video4) Cut and pasteIve noted that Apple continues to add functionality via software update and so Im hoping these things might be coming to the current iphone, rather than features that might require an upgrade in hardware (Im not one to keep upgrading and chasing technology)Thanks for your thoughts,Scotty Macbook Pro 15" 2.2Ghz, 2GB Ram, 250 GB HDD Mac OS X (10.5.5)

iphone problems concerns and improvements.

I am a proud and (mostly) happy owner of an iphone, a Macbook and a Mobileme account. About 90% of what I want to use this technology for is successfully accomplished, however, I have some problems, concerns and questions about improvements; i.e. Why doesnt this exist yet? Even though this forum is the iphone forum, I am posting some issues with other products here because they are interrelated. I am looking for suggestions for fixes/work-a-rounds, or for someone to point me in the right direction to find what I need. iphone (3G - White):Apps:1) Safari Crashing From time to time Safari will crash, any fix for this?2) Apps in general Crashing (New York Times) The New York Times app is terrible in this regard. I can read entire articles sometimes, and then others I cant get passed the first paragraph. Any fixes anyone knows about? (it is updated)Suggested improvements (again, why dont these exist?):3) Allow an iDisk interface4) Over the Air syncing with mobile me for contacts, iCal etc. Where should I post my suggestions, or does nobody care?Email:5) Be able to send email to contact groups by typing in the name of the group in the To: field on the iphone. Calling:6) Going straight to voice mail, this happens quite often and happens when I have perfect signal Now this is an issue that Im pretty sure Im going to have to take to an ATT store but I want to post here to see if anyone else is experiencing this. I am mainly in the Detroit to Ann Arbor Michigan areas and very often I get text messages from my friends stating that they cannot get a hold of me that my phone is going directly to voice mail. Any workarounds? fixes? -- Note -- I have perfect signal when this occursI think this is a similar issue: I will get several text messages all at once that are backdated several hours sometimes up to a day old. This occurs no matter who I am receiving the text message from (Sprint, ATT etc.) 7) 3G Coverage in Ann Arbor In Ann Arbor, I cannot use 3G, period. If I have 3G enabled, my phone is a brick. The signal indicator on my phone states that I have perfect signal, but my phone literally is a brick. As soon as I disable 3G my phone is perfectly functional using the Edge system. Any explanation or similar experience?I think I will post this section in the Mobile Me forum, but some are interrelated. Mobile Me:Web client interface:1) Slow2) Be able to send to groups by typing the group name in the To: field3) Error often comes up saying folder has been deleted or moved, but nothing like that is happening. 4) Outgoing mail will fail to send, frequentlyiDisk:5) Uploads are going to be slow, provide an application that will keep track of the upload or syncing in progress and will ensure its success. I often begin an upload/sync of 700-800 mb and it will fail and Ill have to start over.6) Allow an iDisk interface on the iphone. And, needless to say: Highlight, Cut, Copy and Paste please! Support of Good technology for iphone

Although the iphone is a wonderful personal device it lacks significant functionality running in the enterprise on ActiveSync. The SDK does not appropriately support security needs, interaction with outlook, etc. to tie into an enterprise level product such as Good technology. Im speaking as the CIO of a publically traded company. We purchased half a dozen of the phones to Beta on our network. We are concerned about the security issues and will not be rolling out any additional at this time until we have a secure environment. Prior to the iphone 3G introduction we ran Good for all our other devices and terminated our use of Activesync. We are now incurring the cost of maintaining both environments. HP Windows 2000 iphone

iphone ATT

Is it me or is Att the worst possbile carrier apple could have chose? In my area (northeast US) i have many friends that have iphone and absolutely love the phone, but get no service anywhere. If they do get service there calls are usually dropped. Is this corp. greed at its best? In other countries the iphone is on other carriers, but not the US. We always get the shaft when it comes to cell phone technology. There is only one reason apple would have done this. GREED. Its all about the money as usual. I would have bought an iphone but there agreement with att (who i had in the past and screwed me with cacelation fees after there service barely worked) has detered me. Just the fact that they disrespected the consumers by forcing them to use such a crap carrier, makes me think twice about buying any apple branded product. Keep it up apple and youll end up like FANNIE AND FREDDIE!

Biz phone y iphone

Apple isnt touting the iphone as a biz phone is it? If so its yesterdays technology tomorrow.I grabbed a 3G. Had a Treo680 (palm OS)The Treo out of the box:Can read and write Office docs. (Word, Excel, and read PDFs)Can store the files on the phone.iphone? gotta buy an app that can only read the office files.it does *everyting Yup does. And rather cool I might add.So Im sitting the the airport waiting for my plane, listening to music. Hop on the plane, watch a movie, listen to some more music. Get off the plane and need to call my client. Oops cant. Battery dead. No prob, just pop in a new battery. LOL.My Treo could play music, videos/movies, surf the web, etc. And I can replace the battery in 4-6 seconds. All I want is basic functionality out of this cool device.Let me store files on it, create files on it, and make it easy to transfer the files between my MacBook and it.Once again, I could xfer files to and fro via bluetooth or sync on the treo.(and aint the Treo OS like 5 years old???)The iphone is really cool on glitz, but rather lacking in substance.(adding an SD card slot would be cool too)I do like it, but its NO biz phone. Review of iphone 3G Finding Bliss with my new iphone 3G

☻☻☻☻☻☻☻☻☻☻10/10 happy facesI bought the new iphone 3G a couple of weeks ago (the first Apple product I have owned), and I have to tell you--I LOVE IT! It is sheer bliss. The phone is sleek and easy to hold. More importantly, it is super easy to use. Everything is activated by touch or a quick flick of your finger. And its FUN! Ive never had a fun phone before this.I would recommend this phone to anyone, especially to those who have problems using the regular phone-style keypad to text. It is also the perfect phone to give to someone who may be technically challenged because once you comprehend how it works, it is easy to use. Here are some of the things I like about the iphone 3G:Usefulness & User Friendly In the past, my other cell phones have been used for the calendar, once in a blue moon for the game on it, but mostly as a phone--thats it. With my iphone, I can: -download my email contact list in Outlook (or others) so that I have all my contacts on my phone-call friends just by touching their name in my contact list-activate the speaker by one touch during any call-access the internet and enlarge parts of any website or turn the iphone horizontally for easier reading-send out a Twitter post in seconds-plan my schedule in the calendar (I actually use this more now)-use Google Maps to help me navigate and GPS to see exactly where I am and whats around me (makes ordering pizza a breeze)-download numerous applications, music, videos etc from iTunes, plus from my computer (did that all on day 1)-take great pictures; its a camera too--I can view them separately or as a slideshow-download photos from my laptop or PC to my phone-get a TV guide app that will show me whats on TV--great for when Im traveling (only US for now but they promise Canadian compatibility is on the way)-get a movie app that shows me what movies are on, where and when (even in Canada!)-gives me a direct link to YouTube so I can watch clips (get the 6G or higher data package!)-check the weather forecast for the week--anywhere (great for when traveling!)-check our stocks (not a pretty picture right now!)-set world clocks (great for traveling!)-play numerous games that I can download from iTunes (many simulate the Wii experience)-use as an iPod, complete with headphones and speaker so I can take calls while listening to music (much like having a bluetooth)-send and receive email (easy to read and to type)-easily send text messages*-type notes and email them to myself so I can save on my PC***TextingI could text on my last phone, but I hated using the tiny numerical keypad. Im not a teenager that can rapidly fire off a whole paragraph in mere seconds. It took me forever to type a text message. So I rarely used that function. With my new iphone, texting is a breeze--and fun. It is made easy by the use of a simulated keyboard that pops up. Since Im a writer, using a keyboard is second nature to me. The letters on the iphone keyboard are quite large and easy to tap. When you tap a letter and hold for a second, the letter pops up enlarged, making it easier to read for those of us who have vision issues. I dont even need my reading glasses for this. All text conversations are stored so you can flick back over a conversation that may have taken place over weeks. You can read both sides of the conversation in colored balloons. Or you can erase the conversation and start fresh. **NotesThe notes application opens to a legal pad (yellow pad with lines). All you have to do is tap on a line to drop the cursor, then use the keyboard to type. With all typing on this phone, you can touch and hold and a magnifying bubble comes up, helping you to see the text more easily. This way you can move the cursor if you need to correct something. With the iPhones smart technology, itll offer you suggestions for words that you accept by tapping the space bar.Finding BlissTwo nights ago, I discovered just how much this note app will help me. I write novels--suspense mainly. Because my imagination is so active and is always on, I am often blasted with an idea for a novel at the least convenient time. Sometimes while Im driving, sometimes while Im watching TV. In these cases, I scramble around for paper, write down my thoughts, then end up losing or misplacing the paper if I havent entered the info on my computer. Two nights ago this happened. I was watching TV and a commercial came on. It was for Bliss chocolates. First, it made me want chocolate (lol). But the more I looked at the word Bliss in its pretty scrolling font, the more I started to picture a young girl--named Bliss.Then...BAM!I was blasted with a story that made me sit up in my chair and reach for my iphone. I couldnt let this idea or Bliss escape. I had to capture her story right away. So I made some notes. When I was done I had a very brief plot outline. I was extremely happy to see that I could email it to myself, which I did. Then I went on my PC, opened the email and copied the text into a new folder with the title of this new YA novel--Finding Bliss. The following day I told my husband about my new novel idea and about Bliss and my iphone note feature. While we sat in the mall, another piece of her story showed itself to me. So out came my iphone, type-type-type send. As my husband and I talked, he gave me a terrific idea. I am going to write Finding Bliss on my iphone! A complete novel, using the notes feature. The iphone will also be featured in my novel; someone will be using it. Marc suggested I contact Apple and let them know what Im doing and how Im using the new iphone 3G. I think thats a great idea. They might get a kick out of the fact that a bestselling Canadian author is using her iphone to write a novel.I have already started Chapter 1 of Finding Bliss. My plan is to write it on the iphone, then edit it on my PC. As for Bliss chocolates, I bought a bag to celebrate. Theyre heavenly. And my new novel? It will be a project of love. Finding Bliss will be an emotional, heartwarming story of a teenager who must fight to survive a world of abuse, lies and loss. As she struggles to find herself, Bliss will discover exactly where she belongs and shell learn that she is worthy of love after all.~Cheryl Kaye Tardif, bestselling author of Whale Song PC Windows XP

iphone Usable After Phone Plan Expiration

I just purchased an iphone 3G and am thinking ahead. Simple question. With the advent of new technology in the near future my iphone probably only has a shelf life of 2 years at the most for me and probably all of us because there will be a new and improved cell phone. I was wondering after my AT&T plan expires in 2 years, will the iphone still be usable as a quasi iPod Touch? Or will it not be usable without cellular service?Irv Dell Windows XP Pro

Android Compare iphone Top 5 Wins and Losses

Sure, on the surface Google’s Android seems more like a shot through the heart of Windows Mobile — or the head of Palm’s Linux-based OS 2.0 aspirations — but while those platforms enjoy their own historical and market share, it’s Apple’s iphone that has all the mind share of late. That means, despite Google’s CEO being on the Apple Board of Directors, Google’s Maps, Search, and other services having a prominent place on both devices, and — let’s face it — Google’s full on tech-crush for the iphone — no one is going to hesitate to pit the two systems head-to-head. Including us!So, what advantages does each one have? What drawbacks? Here they are, in our opinion: the top five iphone vs. Android Wins and Losses… after the break! How Android Wins1. Hardware OptionsUnlike the singularity of the iphone, Android follows the current Windows Mobile model (and old Palm OS model) of creating a software platform meant to be implemented by a wide range of different manufacturers across an even wider range of hardware (some speculate beyond even the phone paradigm). Want a keyboard? Touch? Flip? Yellow racing fins? No problem, take 1 from column A and 2 from column B. After all, people tend to be diverse if not unique, and no single device can possibly meet the needs of each and every consumer. By letting manufacturers offer hardware choices, Android wins.2. Developer FreedomWhile the iphone App Store has been a million (going on billion) dollar success, it has also been an endless source of controversy rooted not only in Apple’s desire to control seemingly every aspect of ecosystem, but the capricious — and callous — way in which they’ve thus far chosen to exercise that control. By contrast, Google is offering what amounts to a totally free Marketplace where developers can pretty much create and deploy anything, limited only by their innovation and determination. Podcaster? Fine. Mailwrangler? Okay (even though it likely duplicates Google’s built-in Gmail client). It’s the classic Open Source argument. (Heck, even the OS itself is Open Source!) By being free as in speech (though Google is wealthy enough to spot developers at least a few beers as well!), Andorid wins.3. Killer Cloud ConnectivityLet’s face it, the cloud is the future, and while Apple has struggled (cough-MobileMe-cough) with that future, Google owns it. Google Search. Gmail. gCal. Google Docs. Google Maps. YouTube. Knol. Chrome. And the list goes on and on (and on). If they can flip the switch and truly, seamlessly integrate everything, not only between applications but across desktop, laptop, and handset, it will make for perhaps the most compelling offering ever on the market. By not being the next Windows-class platform (which superseded the earlier Mac), but by potentially being something even greater, Android wins.4. DRM-Free MediaThe iphone is hooked into the largest and most successful media fountain in the business, iTunes. The record labels and Hollywood, however, fearing Apple will become another Walmart, able to dictate terms (taken, no doubt, to a Jobsian extreme) have with the exception of EMI, denied iTunes the higher quality, DRM-free music they are willing to give to competitors like Amazon. Google, despite being Amazon’s rival in the data-center-driven cloud computing space, is leveraging Amazon MP3’s musical advantage for Android. No word yet on whether they’ll ever break the DRM-free TV and Movie barrier (not when Hollywood is cutting off so many noses to spite that face), but for as far as it goes, by providing consumers with content free of DRM that never stopped the real pirates, but made everyday use difficult to the point of exasperation, Android wins.5. Sergey and LarrySteve Jobs is the archetypal benevolent dictator, and a divisive one at that. Google’s founders, by contrast, enjoy a shinier, happier public image. Whether it’s their “don’t be evil” motto or their willingness to let Google employees spend 20% of their time (1 day a week) working on solo “skunkworks” projects in the true spirit of innovation, (such as Sergey’s gleeful Android “hang time” app?), their youthful energy and enthusiasm powers the Google brand. By presenting a kinder, friendlier, and — arguably — funnerer corporate culture to consumers, Android wins. How the iphone Wins1. Unified Hardware/DevelopmentControversies aside, the App Store has changed the face of application development and deployment (and how scary is it that this represents only one of the iphone’s revolutions). Leveraging the ease of use and power of Cocoa, developers can create applications that will not only run on any iphone (or iPod Touch) on the market, but be available for market (or for free), at the tap of a button, on each and every one of those devices. While Android developers will have to worry about whether some hardware has keyboards and some not, touchscreens or not (and what resolution?!), real headphones or USB adapters (really HTC? Really?) trackballs or accelerometers — never mind the endless snafu potential of any manufacturer or carrier making any changes they want to the Open Source OS — iphone developers can “just work”. By providing a single, unified hardware implementation and the unlimited on-device marketplace that comes with it, the iphone wins.2. Best of Both WorldsWhile Android enjoys the most complete integration with Google imaginable, we can’t forget that Google’s business isn’t making Smartphones. It isn’t Search either. It’s advertising. And to advertise, Google needs to be in front of (and holding on to) as many eyeballs as possible. This means Google needs to provide their services to the iphone (and Windows Mobile, Palm, Blackberry, etc.) as well. So the iphone gets Google Search, Maps, YouTube, and all the other Google applications they need anyway. What’s more, Apple gets to carefully craft their own unparalleled user interfaces and mobile technology on top of and into those Google Services. Google’s Android, however, gets nothing from Apple. By iphone users getting the best of both the Apple and Google worlds, the iphone wins.3. Google Getting Slightly Less “Not Evil”Apple can be smug, uncaring, and wrong-headed redacteds, fair enough. But while Google professes “don’t be evil”, their growing size and power should be a concern to everyone who values privacy and security. Bottom-line: they know everything about you. You search for “very private personal issue”. They know that, and your IP, and can cross-reference it with everything else you’ve searched for, and mapped, and (with the GPS in your phone) whether you’re on the move. And their business is advertising. They own DoubleClick. Sure, Apple hooks into Google for Safari web search and maps as well, but on the iphone you can at least choose not to search, or to search Yahoo!, and to turn off GPS. Maybe you can with Android, maybe not. Chrome has set a very poor precedent (no URL box, just search, means Google parses avery web address you type — never mind the ULA controversy). Given their shiny, happy facade, this makes them all the more terrifying. By the sheer nature of Apple’s business model being predicated on pleasing consumers enough to buy their hardware, and not slipping in advertising on the down low with little or no oversight or accountability, the iphone wins.4. iTunes International & iPod EcosystemFor all the greatness that is Amazon MP3, it’s entirely USA-centric. Sure, for many people that seems like the whole world — but it’s not. While Big Media deliberately won’t give iTunes higher quality DRM-free music, the nature of international media rights is every bit as unfair to Amazon and their offerings. iTunes has had years to navigate this archaic quagmire, however, and while they’re certainly not everywhere yet, iTunes Stores are available to a huge number of consumers around the world. And unlike Android at launch, iphone users in some areas also have TV (including NBC… again), Movies, and the rest of iTunes’ massive media content library available to them. Likewise, the Apple ecosystem is mature, providing everything from easy media conversion tools for personal content, to a plethora of accessories, to Apple’s full line of other hardware and software products. By providing such a vast, and vastly simple set of content and spherically-integrated supporting environment, the iphone wins.5. Steve JobsCall him Steve, El Jobso, Dear Leader, or an arrogant expletive, Steve Jobs has proven time and again to have an uncanny knack for knowing “what’s next”. Not innovation in the strictest sense, Jobs instead takes futuristic technology and realized it for the masses — in whatever elegant shade of this and gorgeous material of that he knows is lust-worthy at that very moment. From the CLI of the Apple II, to the GUI of the Mac, to the portability of the iPod, to the multi-touch of the iphone, Jobs more than anyone this generation has, over and over, pushed the boundaries of consumer technology and the entire industry around it. That’s why every Stevenote brings the internet to a grinding halt, and Android’s announcement barely registered a stutter on the tubes. You don’t dent the universe by committee (which Google’s Open Handset initiative and Android Platform most certainly are), and there’s no better proof of that than the achievements of Apple under the — admittedly dictatorial — guidance of Steve Jobs. By walking onto the stage at Macworld 2007 and pulling the jaw-dropping surprise of the iphone from his pocket, and by keeping every consumer on the edge-of-their seats waiting for the next Stevenote, and the next “one more thing”, the iphone won.ConclusionEvery industry needs competition, and while we can’t help but worry about our friends over on the Windows Mobile and Palm platforms, we also can’t help but think, win or lose, Android will force the iphone to up its game (and vice versa) as well. Either way, we consumers are the ultimate winners.Via How Does Android Compare to the iphone? Top 5 Wins and Losses

Letter to Steve Jobs Quality vs. Money iphone 3G

Mr. Jobs,I have been a Mac fan for years, but was just able to afford one 2 yrs ago. I have had nothing less than a great experience with your products. I had the 1st iphone and now have the 3G model. I am a 24 yr old recent graduate from College, and will continue to promote your products until they are no longer great products. The issue that I see coming to your company is that your are getting away from the QUALITY aspect of the produts. I never dreamed that you would have released a faulty OS in iphone 2.0. You are continuing to grow as a company just like Microsoft, and they have lacked on the quality side for a while, obvioulsy. TAKE HEED OF THIS WARNING. Either slow down and contiune to release quality products or contiune on the Microsoft road to customer disatisfaction. I had to get this off of my chest, because of my love for the advancement of technology. With respect, HW4 Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5) iphone 3G
